Subscribe to RSSHong Kong property and shipping magnate Cecil Chao Sze-tsung announced he would offer HK$500 million (about $65 million) to the man who can woo and marry his 33-year-old daughter, Gigi Chao, the South China Morning Post reported.
"It is an inducement to attract someone who has the talent but not the capital to start his own business," Chao told the BBC.
"I don't mind whether he is rich or poor. The important thing is that he is generous and kind-hearted," he added. "Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous and does volunteer work."
According to the Post report, the announcement came just one week after Chao's daughter revealed she had married her female partner of seven years, Sean Eav, in France earlier this year.
The tycoon, 76, told the Post the reports of his daughter being married were "false." According to the article, same-sex marriage is not legally recognized in Hong Kong, although civil unions are performed in France.
Chao, whom the Post describes as "Hong Kong's pre-eminent playboy tycoon," told the BBC that Gigi Chao was single and needed a "good husband." Chao has never married himself, and he once claimed to have slept with 10,000 women, the South China Morning Post reported.
According to the BBC, Chao said he wouldn't force Gigi to marry a man against her will.
Gigi Chao runs Haut Monde Talent, a modeling and public relations company. She is the first of three children that Chao had with different women, according to the Global Post.

Now then, after weeding through the ignorant straight men thinking they can "convert her" and the bigoted comments, I just wanted to say this: her father is a nut and this is abuse...I hope for her that she can live and be who she is, which is GAY.....she can live openly and happily...she needs to get the heck out of Hong Kong....She is cute...MANY women would like to date her....many....I wish her the best and hope she lives openly based on WHO she is....Not by all you ignorant, bigoted people who make rude comments.

Gigi will need a partner who is supportive and respectful of her private needs. Her father understands the need to straighten the social image. The planet is full of men who are understanding lovers and business savvy. Sounds like Gigi has to please family traditions as well as her own lifestyles. I'm betting Gigi needs room to grow and that means a long leash.

The suckers are those who fall for this kind of proposal. This kind of outrageous plot, which is probably what it is, is meant to attract publicity for a dying firm or a company. It is intended to help bring a TV program, viewers and make him richer - and his gay daughter too. There are gay men and women who are as capitalistic and devious as any straight person.
I know gay men who are sexist, and gay women who are all into Hollywood culture and high-end fashion. Ask him to donate the money to "social science research", "social services": and "get his daughter to also spend time doing social work with her gay partner".
Everybody now seems to come on "claiming gay" or "throw their gayness in public" (like Anderson Cooper of CNN) to gain attention, popularity and money.
My wife is probably going to kill me for saying all this stuff! :)) She is one amazing straight woman who knows every group in the universe, and probably should run for the Presidency or Prime Ministership of a country...but conervatives in her community, in this country and everywhere will probably silence her. And I am too powerless to really support her talent.

From experience I can tell you that it is quite possible for a lesbian to fall in love with a man. Although don't be surprised if she still wants a girl now and then... but then again that can be a lot of fun!

Hmmmm, is it at all possible that her father's status as a "pre-eminent playboy" who treated women as disposable by allegedly sleeping with over 10,000 of them may have colored her perceptions of men and soured her on finding one that would be worth effort?
Not saying she chose to be lesbian, but being raised in a house like that certainly didn't help sell her on the idea of heterosexuality or monogamy.
