Updated at 8:20 p.m. ET: MEXICO CITY -- Mexican troops have arrested two suspects in the killing of a U.S. Border Patrol agent and the wounding of a second officer in Arizona, Mexican security officials said on Wednesday.
The two suspects were detained in a Mexican military operation in the city of Agua Prieta, in Mexico's northern Sonora state, a few miles from the spot where Nicholas Ivie was shot dead early on Tuesday while responding to a tripped ground sensor, a Mexican Army officer, who declined to be named, told Reuters.
Ivie was among three agents who were patrolling on foot about five miles north of the international border when gunfire erupted. A second agent was also wounded while the third, a woman, was unharmed.
The agents had been patrolling in an area near the border town of Naco, well-known as a corridor for smuggling, and the Cochise County Sheriff's department has said that tracks were found heading south after the shooting.

Ivie was a 30-year-old father of two who grew up in Utah and was active in the Mormon Church. He had been an agent for four years.
A Mexican police official in Naco, across the border from the Arizona town of the same name, confirmed the arrests, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.
U.S. officials refused to comment on the report of the arrests to NBC News.
It was the first fatal shooting of an on-duty Border Patrol agent since December 2010, when Brian Terry was killed in a shootout with bandits near the border. Terry's shooting was later linked to the government's "Fast and Furious" gun-smuggling operation, which allowed people suspected of illegally buying guns for others to walk away from gun shops with weapons, rather than be arrested.
Two Border Patrol agents were killed last year in an accident during a car chase with smugglers near Phoenix.

When can we expect to hear the two suspects were successfully executed? Oh, I forgot. Mexico doesn't have the death penalty. These two murderers will be put in jail and will walk away in the next mass jail break we read about in the news.
They won't walk away if they are actually the killers and are able to tell who they were trafficing for. The cartels have the death penalty and employ it often.
Mexico only deports to US Courts when we promise to not seek the death penalty. If the US Department of Corrections placed these two on road work crews, it could save the United States a lot of money. They probably wouldn't last very long.
How soon till we hear if the guns used may/may not have been from Fast & Furious??? Oh, yeah, probably not until after the election, even though it would be fairly easy if they had the bullets. Sad either way...R.I.P.

I'm a little suspicious of these two being the actual participants...I sure as h#ll hope that that they weren't set up by those corrupt Mexican Gov't officials! We know that those the good 'ol honest Mexican Police Force has never previously engaged in setting-up scape-goats to take the fall in the past for Mexican criminals of high profile attrocities.

I believe 20 years is the maximum jail time for murder in Mexico but since it didn't happen in Mexico they may not get even that.
The 2 Mexicans who were arrested will no doubt confess to the killing. Torture usually results in a signed admission of guilt. Maybe they did it, maybe not. But maybe, just maybe, these 2 guys are the sacrificial lambs offered by the Sinaloa cartel to take the heat off of their smuggling routes.
For starters not all murders in the U.S get the death penalty anyways. Atleast Mexico has the 2 killers in custody. How about the U.S border patrol agents who killed a man on Mexican territory while he was having a BBQ with his children? The family video clearly shows the agents using him for target practice probobly because they assumed they can just make up another story of Mexicans throwing rocks to justify the murder. Do you guys have them on deathrow yet? Are you outraged because of this?
Or when will we hear about the arrest of the U.S border patrol agents who killed a Mexican man on Mexican territory while he was having a BBQ with his children? The video cleary shows the U.S border patrol agents gunning him down and the worse part is they used the same old excuse that the Mexican man was throwing rocks at them. Atleast Mexico has them in custody and isn´t ¨INVESTIGATING¨ what happened (meaning they´re really trying to figure out a new excuse to cover up the truth since their grade school excuse has been compromised).
FRANCCO: Where was the incident you are talking about? And when? Here in San Diego, we are having more and more "iffy" situations with Border Patrol agents.
I know they are putting life and limb on the line, and I believe the 2% rule; where 2% of any group are not necessarily exemplary examples of professionalism (dirtbags).
The 'misconduct' situations here are almost all off-duty situations. The one on duty I'm sure made national news.....about 10 agents standing around while 2 or 3 agents tasered a guy multiple times who was down and posing no threat. Victim later died at a hospital.
I'm beginning to think in the rush to increase the number of Border Patrol agents since Homeland Security took over.....they've gotten a few too many bad apples.
But this situation is beyond debate, and the perps need to be extradited as the crime happened way north of the border. Living this close to the border, am getting cynical about border issues and have absolutely no confidence in law enforcement south of the border. I believe the Cartels have a LOT of them on payroll and won't be surprised if they just arrested a couple borrachones.
I think it's nice to have at least the pretext of the Mexican gov't having apprehended the killers.

It's not. In 1916, 80% of the US Army was on the Mexican border preventing Mexicans from entering the United States and killing Americans.
There are roughly 550,000 active duty soldiers in the US Army.
The US should really use NATO troops and create an internationally protected border that would intimidate Mexico and other Latin American countries. The total resources for NATO is around 3,500,000 troops.

What is so concerning about this is, it's now official, they are so determined to bring those drugs over the border, they are willing to shoot their way in.
The issue that American border control officers are now being shot at is the only issue that we should be talking about, that and the tragic loss of two Americans guarding our borders.

Please note that a majority of Americans are not against LEGAL immigrants working here--we just think that the US should have some criteria for those who come here legally, (which we USED to have) that says the immigrant has to have a job SKILL (and housework and lawn mowing are NOT a skill) that will enable them to NOT be a burden on our citizens by drawing from US CITIZENS' 'entitlements'.
We of COURSE, are even MORE resentful of those who sneak in here, against our laws, and become, at best, leeches on our society. I personally SPEAK Spanish, have visited Mexico City numberous times (and the family I visited while there have ABANDONED Mexico City, despite long family ties including a successful law firm, because one of their wife and children were KIDNAPPED and held to ransom. I'm college educated, own my own home, (paid off) and car, and am retired at age 56, so there is no jealousy on my part.

And since you are obviously bi-lingual, at some point, you have made the effort to learn whichever (Spanish or English,) is NOT your native language, YOU at least recognized the value of that in life in general, and business in specific. Which is where I PERSONALLY come a cropper with illegals in this country.
I lived with a family in Merida Yucatan one summer (actually, in Progresso, a 'suburb/port city), and in Managua Nicaragua for another as a 19 and 20 year old, and I was pretty fluent in Spanish after that. I even can hack around in French, and can read most of Portuguese and Italian.
So WHY should my home town of only 20K people have to spend millions ($5.8) to educate kids who not only don't speak English, but don't even know their letters or numbers, and who get NO support from their families to speak it anywhere BUT in school, and who come back EVERY fall having regressed over the summer? Why do MY town's reading instructors spend their WHOLE time now working with Hispanic kids but have NO TIME for kids with dislexia or other reading problems, just because the LATTER are Americans?
And since my town HAS no industry/business that can or has applies for work visa's for all those kids' PARENTS, I believe it is safe to say, they are all illegal.
Obama massively increased the number of agents patrolling the border, so now we can expect to see a lot more of these gunfights and killings. When you militarize an area, expect more military-style conflict.
It would be far more effective to end the war on drugs and enact a work visa plan for temporary workers. Deal a huge financial blow to the cartels and at the same time eliminate the primary motivation for illegal immigration, which is largely due to the fact that "illegal" is the only way a simple working man from Mexico can get here.

This is such DOG AND PONY SHOW by Mexican authorities for POLITICAL reasons. You know they tortured two poor cab drivers into confessing, that's what they do.
A Canadian cop, and FBI Agent and a Mexican Feferal agent are in the desert discussing who's better at tracking down suspects. They release a rabbit, give a 2 hr head start and the canadian cop goes looking for it. He comes back 1 day later and has the rabbit in a cage, mission accomplished. They release the rabbit again but the FBI agent gives the rabbit a 3 hr head start. Then he takes off after it and returns 12 hrs later with the rabbit in a cage. The Mexican cop releases the rabbit and 12 hrs later the Canadian and American tell him he bettter go or he's gonna lose the rabbit forever. The Mexican cop casually drives off, he comes back 6 hrs later towing a big trailer. He gets out opens the trailer door, and an elephant in the trailer sees the Mexican cop and immediately cowers, horrified, and screams, "I'M A RABBIT, I'M A RABBIT!!!"
That's what happened with these arrests.

Our best bet is with our Senators and Representatives. Bush tried immigration reform (code words for amnesty). He was shot down by Democrats and Republicans alike. People in Arizona care about the lack of border security because they face it every day. The feds build walls on the border that go a few miles, then stop and are replaced by car barriers or barbed wire fences that won't stop anyone. It's a joke. Fast and Furious guns have killed 2 Americans, Terry and Zapata, and many Mexican citizens. This should be headlines. The President should face impeachment. Holder should be fired. US citizens should be up in arms.
What on earth are talking about earthycat? Border patrol is under federal jurisdiction, not the states. You are aware that, when the federal government fails miserably to control illegals and a state tries to take care of anything related to immigration, that Obama sues the state instead of removing the criminals. I've frequented the border near Laredo for a dozen years. My brother and I were exploring in the desert about 30 miles from the border when 5 Hispanic border patrol agents surrounded us with weapons drawn. After we willingly "showed our papers", the Sergeant explained he was disappointed because he thought he was finally going to catch his first RUSSIANS....as a colleague working another portion of the border had done.
Last year about a dozen illegals approached the deer blind of a fellow hunter and when they got close unfurled their flag thinking the hunter was their contact or pick-up man. It was a chinese flag.
Everybody comes across the border.
I use to watch the show "Border Wars"....but got so frustrated watching it. Our border patrol CAN DO NOTHING until the smugglers are on U. S. land. They watch them come across the river and wait for them to get on U. S. soil Meanwhile....they have shooters on the Mexican side watching for our Border Agents. I say SHOOT THE DRUG SMUGGLING DIRTBAGS while coming across!!!
A few weeks ago a Border Patrol Agent killed a Mexican citizen who was celebrating her daughter's birthday on Mexican territory. Allegedly, he was throwing rocks to a Border Patrol boat. What's going to happen to these murderers? Will they get the death penalty or are they patriots for defending continental USA?
MJVA, you might want to do a little research on how many agents have been injured, or killed, by being hit in the head from Mexicans throwing rocks at them.

Those that think this is a gravy job needs to apply..These people are in terrible danger and I pray for them almost every day..A lot of you on here have made alot of common sense and you're exactly correct in your thinking.I am soooo glad there are decent people still out there!!
