Animals Asia
Two bear cubs recovered from suspected poachers play at Animals Asia's bear rescue center in Tam Dao, Vietnam.
Two brother bear cubs rescued from suspected smugglers in Vietnam have become poster children for a campaign against the use of capturing and harvesting bears for their bile.
The two men arrested said "they bought the cubs for $1,500" and were "going to sell them for a much higher price," most likely to a farm that harvests bear bile, Tuan Bendixsen, the Vietnam director for the nonprofit charity Animals Asia, told NBC News.
"To get the cubs they would have to kill the mother," Bendixsen added, "and the mother's body parts would be sold" for the trade in purported medicinal cures from bear parts. The body parts most in demand are gallbladders and paws.
The bears were found by police inspecting a basket in a town near the northern border with China. Across that border are multiple bile farms, Animals Asia said.
The Asiatic black bears, also known as moon bears, were given the nicknames Ricky and Joey.
Releasing the bears back into the wild is not an option, Bendixsen said, "because we don't know where they came from and since they were taken from their mother at such a young age they can't look after themselves in the wild."
Animals Asia estimates that more than 10,000 bears are kept on bile farms in China, and around 2,400 in Vietnam.
"They’re 'milked' regularly for their bile, which is stored in the gall bladder," Animals Asia said in a statement about the rescued cubs. "The bile is used as a form of medicine, even though many herbal and synthetic alternatives are available."
Bears are kept in small cages for up to 30 years while their bile is extracted with catheters, the group said.

SPREAD THE WORD!
Asians are such creeps...how the hell do you kill and eat a dog, a cat, a monkey, barbeque a sloth?
Killing almost extinct animals like blue whales in the name of research?
Creating a demand for Rhino horns and Elephant tusks just for healing power?...literally running these animals into extinction....
Milking a bear for bile? Keeping bears in a cage for 30 years just to milk them?
What next? Human balls for ping pong?
I suspect what "Hunan peefu" as they call it is really human beef...at least they are giving you clues
So next time you're munching on that "beef' broccolli, look twice....and that soy sauce could be from a monkey's ass
The problem is the Chinese people. The problem is Red China---and their medieval medicinal practices......barbaric---uncivilized----
Boycott China made goods, and companies like Walmart which insist that their suppliers give the rock bottom price, which means---made in China.
The Chinese are a cruel, cruel people. When they have killed and tortured all the planet's wild animals for their body parts-----they may start "farming" humans.
What else do you expect from the Chinese---they are a "God LESS" people.....all they care about is their libidos and money. NO conscience..... no social conscience...
I dread to think what would happen if china became a christian nation, as they would surely embrace the doctrine of dominion as proof of their right to torture, kill and exploit animals...
It is possible to be compassionate without god - The problem in china is a culture that is infested with violence.
The hindu gods are far more compassionate than those who grant man the right to harm and kill animals... they have embraced ahimsa... The vedic scriptures encourage a vegetarian diet:
"The Vedic scriptures of India, which themselves predate Buddhism, also stress non-violence as the ethical basis for vegetarianism."Meat can never be obtained without injury to living creatures," states the Manu-samhita, the largest ancient Indian code of law. "Let one, therefore, shun the use of meat." Yogi Times
What the hell is up with Asian people and harvesting weird animal parts? Shark fins, Rhino horns, bear bile??? Really? Somebody needs to figure out how to build an illegal drug trade in that damn region so they quit exploiting animals to get their very bizarre kicks....lol
Before Colorado outlawed baiting and dogs, my father, bothers, and myself would hunt bear every other year or so. The Dept. of Wildlife would use fines to keep bear body-parts off of the black market. BIG fines. The DOW knew the trade, in China, of bear parts was a HUGE market. In many cases the DOW would collect the gall bladders from us. I would chuckle, thinking about those Chinese eating the bile! As for Colorado's increasing bear population, they just terrorize or bite the occasional person. They break into homes and trash them. The black bear is a nuisance, the grizzly is a killer.
Roadkill,
"Before Colorado outlawed baiting and dogs"
Does that mean you don't have any dogs in Colorado anymore? Aren't dogs man's best friend? :)
Mickey, if that was a serious question you are a idiot. So I am hoping its not. But for the people who don't know, it means that hunters can no longer use trained dogs to track and hunt bears. However in Idaho it is still very legal. My nieghbor has somewhere around 5 dogs he uses on regularly to hunt bears. Its kind of interesting to see. The dogs to not attack the bear if trained right, not that it would matter anyway, these bears are killers. Hunters avoid shooting a bear on the ground with dogs there because they get aggessive and usually kill a dog.
Shaneal Osterhout Wallace,
"Mickey, if that was a serious question you are a idiot. So I am hoping its not"
Didn't you see the smiley face at the end of my question? That means I was just joking.
They use them as sex aids didn't you know this or they are used for health food,, Good for what ails you!!!!!
Dan,
"They use them as sex aids didn't you know this or they are used for health food"
That's true. The Chinese also eat evey part of a pig, the ears, the eyes, the tongue, everything! They don't let anything do to waste. They also eat a lot of other things we find revolting. Did you see the Amazing Race last Sunday? The contestants had to eat frog's fallopian tubes in a restaurant in Shanghai. The Chinese consider that a desert.
They would have better luck just humping the bear pancrious than drinking bile to get horney. That is seriously screwed up stuff. Sorry to be so graphic but I'd bet a years salary there are less invasive ways to get the urge. Somebody should ship a crate of viagra over there. Seriously sick people.
Troy,
"Somebody should ship a crate of viagra over there"
That might be a good idea, but the Chinese have been using such strange potions for thousands of years, since long before Viagra came along. Whether or not bear's bile actually works as advertised, I wouldn't know since I never tried it.
In keeping with tradition and superstition, there is a penis restaurant in beijing... with a wide variety of animals represented. This restaurant was featured on the bbc website - if you want to google it.
Doc Holiday,
Rmember it is east asians.... India is south asia and is more compassionate towards animals than the USA. In the USA, though a greater effort is made to protect animals than in china.... Dominion of the judeo.christian tradition allows for meat.... The Jain religion of India prohibits meat and killing of animals. Hinduism has included this concept as well, so that India is truly the only nation in the world with a vegetarian tradition lasting thousands of years.
Um...pass. I can honestly say that I have never hand the urge to eat even one, let alone a variety of animal penises in my life. When I hunt and drop a deer Im not thinking, 'Hm, bet those testicles will be worth all the work". If what you say is true ( i have never heard that) it just reinforces my opinion that Asian people (eastern Asia for the Bearbileprop) are seriously screwed up in some regards.
China will do what it takes to save face, so that it looks good. In reality the bear bile industry in china prepares and ships this cruelly derived product throughout asia. As a show of good faith, one bear bile farm was closed and the bears were sent to a sanctuary. On route most of them died because they were so ill. And while that one bile farm was closed, a larger more modern one replaced it, with more bears than ever tormented and violated. That is what is considered good faith in china - do what it takes to keep the dollars flowing in... but dont give up cruel industries.
I stopped buying shrimp from one of our most prestigious retailers here in the US for the same reason...but more on a labor issue than save the planet. Bear gall bladders have been a world commodity for decades and our politicians and trade reps can;t do a damn thing cause Citizens United has them by ...not the gall baldder but by the balls!
Mr Mike,
Indeed there are many reasons to boycott any goods from china and to avoid traveling there. We dont have to provide them with tourist dollars...

Do not visit china or purchase anything made in China until they stop torturing dogs to death for their flesh; stop poaching tigers for the penises and pelts, rhinos for their horns and elephants for their ivory; stop tormenting bears for their bile.
Chinese medicine is based on superstition, so that tiger penises are viewed as an aphrodisiac. It is also believed that if a dog is tortured prior to slaughter the meat is not invigorating.
"The greatness of a nation and the progress of its moral development can be measure by how it treats its animals" Gandhi
China has a long way to go before it is a great nation.
China will NEVER be a great nation! Their selfish greed and love of the almighty dollar will not let them!
Chris,
"Their selfish greed and love of the almighty dollar will not let them!"
Surely you jest! What about our own selfish greed and love of the almighty dollar?
Mickey, Chris Boule WAS talking about the United States...
Poor, poor creatures and man's ignorance. :(
Sharktopussie,
"Mickey, Chris Boule WAS talking about the United States..."
Are you saying he was being sarcastic because he did say, "China will never be a great nation"?
I'm thinking Asians as a whole are a bit strange and outright disrespectful to animals. Well, lets be honest though. All humans directly or indirectly are killing life on this planet.
We've had animal advocate organizations like the Humane Society for about 150 years or so in the West - and still some people will offend against even a pet they were supposed to love. The East is still old school, thinking animals are "things" to profit from. After the documentary of killing dogs and cats for fur in China, maybe 20 years ago, I can't abide fur on my clothing. Dog fur was being used to trim jacket hoods, they found out. When a German Shepherd was brought out, wagging its tail, as the worker cut an artery in its leg - less fur damage to kill that way they said - that was it for me on fur.
Still, some cultures are not as sadistic as china, korea and vietnam....
In fact India has the best animal protective legislation than anywhere else....
For example it is against the law to a healthy dog for any reason... dogs are never euthanized for being homeless. In the USA we kill 5 million healthy, adoptable dogs a year.... So it is better for dogs in india.... and cows as well. There are 400 million people who do not eat meat any, especially beef. There are hundreds of thousands of cow shelters in Inida to protect cows rescued from illegal slaughter. Finally, India recently banned vivisection on the university/college level - because it violate the sanctity of lives of the animals, often viciously handled in cruel experiments.
Without a doubt, the worst place to be an animal, especially a dog, who has been nothing but a friend to man for thousands of years, is particularly perverted when one considers that 17 million dogs a year are a killed in legal slaughter houses. One way to cook a dog to insure tender, succulent meat is to place the dog in a fire retardant sac, then place the dog in the sac, while he is still alive, in an oven to be roasted.
These customes are not just a little bit strange.... the are the height of barbaric sadism.
Yes it is great to be a dog or cow in India, Not so good if you are a poor person, Millions live in slums in India fighting to survive on a small bowl of rice a day if they are lucky. Children starve while cows roam free to eat what they want
Lostinthepinebarrens,
The discussion is about horrific cruelty to animals....The fact still remains that there is more compassion for animals in India.... and nightmarish abuse in china. The middle class is growing rapidly in India... as it shrinks in the USA...
There are no Virginia Tech type massacres, columbines or colrado cinema rampages, no shhopping mall random slaughter... in India.
Both India and the USA have problems.... This does not change the fact that there is more compassion for animals in India...
In china they have an epidemic of random massacres of kindergarten and preschool children. In all liklihood because violence to animals and humans permeates society.
actually the article is about 2 bears that were saved, You injected India.
Yes India is great to their animals, However men marry women for their dalry then murder them, Dieing in a kitchen fire is a big killer of women in India, Unscrupulous orphanages in India blind children and make them beg for money, If you are of the wrong caste in India you get to starve to death, Yes India is just so great for the animals though.
You may want to double check that...There are constant murders in India, Some from Paki terrorists and some from the Indian gangs. You just never hear about them because unless it is happening to the rich in India no one cares
All societies have politically rooted violence.... we have that in the usa, look at the drones killing hundreds of innocent civilians in pakistan...
The fact remains the the gratuitous rampaging violence of a columbine, virginia tech, colorado cinema are rooted in in the inner turmoil of troubled individuals who understand they have an easy license to kill for real or imagined slights...
Meanwhile over half of Indias population lives in abject poverty. My brother's wife is Indian and I work with a number of Indians in my office. Trust me, they aren't going back....so, good job taking care of cows and dogs India....time to focus on the peeps now. They will ultimately as they are an industrious and intelligent people. Hey, at least they aren't cutting off tiger penis in India to eat or killing dogs for fur. If somebody killed my dog for body parts I would go postal all over their ass. My dog is one of the family. It would be like killing one of my children.....which I would go beyond postal for that.
I dont direct all of that toward China alone....Generally speaking the whole Orient is alien to me. I kind of wonder which dude said, "hmmm. Maybe I should eat these pig balls to get horny." Or, "I bet bear bile is tasty." Bile cant be tasty...the very name reeks of nasty. Did someone just decide one day, "Hey, I drank this nasty ass bear puke and now I feel better so it must be the bear puke". Probably the same guy that ate that bowl of spoiled milk sometime in the past and decided spoiled milk tastes good...lets call it cheese.............Kill, Kill, Kill.....Asians are weird period. Not Asian Americans.....just Asians. The chinese barely even have marginal respect for human life. I guess when you have a billion people nobody misses a few hundred thousand here and there.
Actually many non-resident Indians are returning to India... where they see more opportunity.
There are a number of wonderful charities to help the poor in India - one is The Barefoot College... which takes women from poor communities throughout india and teaches them to maintain and design solar equipment. They return to their villages with a skill that gives them respect, as it provides energy and light, so that children who worked in the field during the day may study by light in the evening... and break the cycle of violence with an education.
Barefoot College is now reknown and it includes women from africa and south east asia...
It is breaking the cycle of poverty.
India was brought up only to show that not all nations are as vicious to animals as china... You are correct it is a side issue...
The bears had to be rescued due to over the top. intentional cruelty. Therefore the topic is animal abuse. The bears scream every time the bile is withdrawn because it is painful... The bile is drained several times a day.
Troy1101 - Your ignorance shows when you make a generalized statement like "Asians as a whole are a bit strange and outright disrespectful to animals." Do you think Americans walking around the US that identify themselves as Asian-American are strange or just Americans of Asian ancestry? All Asians don't eat the variety of animals that you see in some of these Asian countries so don't lump them all together. It also doesn't mean everyone in these countries eat all the strange things either. A lot of the "foods" we consider disgusting that are eaten in China, for example, are not necessarily eaten in other Asian countries.
I get angry when I read stories like this too. There is a real crisis in African countries where Chinese are smuggling out rhino and elephant parts. I think the only way to save them is to have a shoot to kill law for the poachers and placing restrictions on Chinese shipments out of there as well as luggage(how they usually smuggle horns- unbelievable) on top of a boycott. I would like to see some sort of boycott of Chinese goods by Americans like people who are buying Apple products, etc. I don't buy any food from China nor anything that I have to eat off of for fear of getting sick of worse.
I am surprised that our planet has not already collapsed on itself because of the way we "humans" abuse it and all its creatures. While Asian people have many good qualities, their usual treatment of animals is horrendous.
People, do yourselves a favor. Try to stop your misguided tunnel vision here regarding China or any other country and culture for that matter. Collecting bear bile is a sad and cruel way to treat these animals. But NBC has taken this pathetic story and MAGNIFIED IT. This is one small sad aspect of Chinese culture. Bear bile collection is only ONE confusing factor about China.
An excellent six part BBC program called Wild China, shows that in many cases the Chinese revere their native animals and have great respect for nature while working in harmony with it. There is a great love of family and community in China as well.
http://www.mazalien.com/wild-china.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_China
Afterall, even China's Zodaic signs are covered by twelve respected animals for instance.
It's true that China reveres certain animals and seems oblivious to the suffering of other creatures in their culture, but if Indians look at America's factory farmed animals and our use of laboratory experimentation on animals, they would judge Americans as very cruel as well!
And as far as telling "starving" Indians to just eat their sacred cows, that's ridiculous, it's like telling Americans to just eat our precious pet cats, dogs, lizards, parrots, etc!
Understanding another's culture is very difficult I'll grant you that, but since watching the Wild China series, I have a much greater respect for China, where it seems much of their population lives in harmony with nature, working with animals, and caring for their environment.
I am always suspicious now when US news tries to paint a culture, people, and a country in a certain "light." Making sure to point out only certain repugnant facts, but leaving out the benevolence of a people or a culture...The world is NOT black and white; there are many shades of gray.
It is dangerous not to do your own unbiased research with respect to a people and their culture, otherwise this is called manipulating (brainwashing) the public through an agenda and PROPAGANDA...If you recall it did wonders for Hitler...Sorry, I'm not letting the media corrupt my mind. I am going to keep looking for a better more rounded vision of the world.
As I see it, we are all brothers and sisters, and this includes all creatures great and small.
So.........killing elephants and rhino in Africa for their ivory is a cultural thing too, huh sharktopussie? Get real.
The only animal that china reveres is the panda, because it receives millions of dollars to exhibit them both in china and abroad. If pandas did not bring in such revenue, walmart would be selling panda bear rugs and trinkets.
It is not reverence to kill a tiger for his skin and penis. It is not reverence to kill a rhino for his horn in the name of superstition and greed. It is not reverence to kill an elephant for his tusks for the high prices for the ivory....
It is not reverence to roast a dog alive, so that the meat will be a more effective tonic.
You may mock the poor in india who do not eat cows, but I know of just such a person. There were days, as a child, when he had almost nothing to eat... yet he would not eat meat. He got an education, including two phds... and has lifted himself out of poverty. This man is a kind, socially responsible person... Not eating meat did not hurt him, it provided the spiritual and moral foundation for an ethical life.
By the way did you know that there is an epidemic of random slaughter of kindergarten and preschool children in china... deranged individuals, off balance from so much exposure to violence to humans and animals... feel the need to kill the most innocent and vulnerable - a very close paralle to killin a companionable, good natured dog.
By the way, the information about the culturally accepted torture of animals is not hearsay from newsweek. It is based on the work done by Jill Robinson who has lived in china for years, working to bring a glimmer of humanety to this spiritually impoverished nation. She is the founder of a respected world reknown animal organization - Animals Asia...
She portrays reality, with the hope of changing it. She has noted that there are dvds and books for sale in bookstores in china on how to properly torture a dog prior to slaughter....
Maybe you should move over there and eat pig nuts and bear bile if you think it all these bizarre goings on are so "small scale" Sharktopussie. I'm sure your dogs and cats are more than welcome as well. Harmony with nature is BS. The government in China will move a million people out of the way forcably to build a stinking highway/city/damn....if they have such lack of respect to offer people choice, or at the very least, a bit of dignity in not treating them like animals, as a whole, they can't possibly give a rats ass about the animals. These people grind up rhino horn and drink it...and have no problem with people killing them and literally taking only the horn....wasteful and disrespectful culture. But to be fair, because I am, I generally believe humans collectively are THE most wasteful and disrespectful animals on the planet. Unlike the rest of the animal kingdom, who's lives are bound by the laws of natural selection, we have the ability to reason and make choices and aren't whole bound by natural selection. The one animal that has the power of reason and choice is the one animal that will likely screw this place up byond repair.....why? because sick f$^&s decide that drinking bear puke is a good thing for starters.
Sorry guys, I still think your vision is too "small." Not good. I could write a BOOK on all the cruel and unjust things in America and what Americans have done now and in the past. Every time you turn around America is in a war with SOMEONE! You call that civilized?
Should the world judge Americans by that recent dreadful theater shooting in Colorado? Nonsense. You know that's not accurate, so why focus on the malevolent things in a country instead of the benevolent? I don't believe Americans are "better or nicer" than our brothers and sisters around our world.
And you can tell me go ahead and move to China then, well, I'm to the point where I consider myself a citizen of the world, not America, so telling me to move anywhere is fine with me.
I'm not buying it. I'm done vilifying one country or people as American media wishes Americans to do. It's not right vision. I will continue to look at all sides of a situation, country, a person, etc until I have come to my own conclusions through right view.
And I'm pretty sure most of you scolding me for my "openness of vision" regarding China will understand this quote:
"Let him without sin cast the first stone."
Just be thankful that they don't do it to humans.
I am not thankful I am pissed off. And they might be the ones thankful that they have stay out of detection for so long. They might need to rethink their buisness plan. This will not go away unless people make it go away. But really the way they are treating and killing the bears they should be caged.
'
I showed some information to members of fa lun gang, a persecuted miniority in china. I was told they do the same to us.
If you can torture a dog to death, it is not a great leap to do the same to a child.
Yep, and the Japanese kill shark just for the fin. The rest goes to waste. I won't suggest the US is not doing pretty evil things given how much of our cattle, swine and poultry are corraled in horrendous dens of hell. But, at some point the human species msut come into harmony with the rest of nature (before we destroy it entirely). As for the some the comments above, I agree with many. But Americans abuse animals horribly, including household pets. We are not so benign. not so unique. I honestly believe that when humans were created, we were given some type of horribly flawed gene because as much as we speak about care and kindness, there is an element among us that it the worst of the worst.
Rev vincent,
The problem in the USA is the cruel doctrine of dominion, which allows for the harm and slaughter of animals for human, need and greed. Still dogs with a loving home in the usa do pretty well and we do prosecure animal abuse. In China it is the norm, not challenged in any way...
I would remind you that it is much better for animals in India where the religion is more compassionate, since killing of humans and animals is prohibited. The religious concept of ahimsa, uncconditional compassion for all living beings.... first introduced by the jain religion, goes a long way towards a more humane view of animals...
"It is the essential characteristic of a wise person that he/she does not kill any living being.
One should know that non-killing and equality of all living beings are the main principles of religion" Jain sutra
bearbilepropaganda - India is not without its problems of cruelty. their bengal tiger and Indian elephant populations can tell you how cruel Indians can be. the dogs roaming all over the place are not cared for, fed, or treated for disease, and they suffer incredibly. additionally, India has plenty of Indian Muslims and Christians or no religious affiliation who have no problem killing animals there. and for that matter, look at how they treat women or any person from a lower caste. they are as sick as any human living on this planet. no one of us is free from blame at how we treat nature.
Eloise Leyden spent a year in India crossing the country to observe the street dogs. She produced a book- The Slum dogs of India. In it she notes that the dogs are tolerated and not harmed by the vast majority of the population.
When a dog cull was threatened by the government in Kashmir, MP Maneka Gandhi threatened to call in the military to halt the cull. There was no cull.
There are cruel people every where, but it is how the cruelty is handled that is most telling. It is against the law to kill a healthy dog for any reason in India. In India the ASPCA and PETA would be charged with cruelty to animals for the numbe of dogs killed by their policies of convenience killing.
India...Save the dog murder the child...Yes India is just so wonderful...Not!!!
We were given free will by our creator REV...the capability to choose our path. The ability to know good and evil and choose which path we will take. As stewards of this planet what happens to the life on this planet is our species legacy.
My biggest worry is that it will ultimately be impossible to bring 7 billion people together to create a sustainable home, let alone live in harmony with nature. That is why I put my faith in god. Given our acceleration in population growth and our inability to function in any fashion as a "super organism" if you will, our destiny is exactly like that of a parasite. I sort of believe our species is coming up on a dead end and there is going to be one nasty reset in the future of life on earth. It has happened a number of times.
People are just no darn good. The only species we have in abundance on this planet is HUMAN. I say leave the animals alone and start thinning the human herd...
Seymour- I couldn't agree with you more!!!
I agree also..the human herd definitely needs to be thinned
ok we can start with you three yes?
Maybe if we name the bears Mohamad the Jihads will free them. All kidding aside, this is beyond cruel. People should quit using the biles from the bears. Ya, NutZ
humans are often evil creatures.
Take care of the world around you...don't use it for your own evil purposes.
Look what our eastern friends still do to animals for profit. It sickens me, angers and I do not respect humans that lack concern for animal safety. I hope that their karma will return to them and they suffer the same deliberated pain and distress they have inflected on helpless lives, human or animal alike.
I sort of hope they get testicular cancer from drinking bear bile or something...lol. Lets be a bit fair though. We, Americans, have literally industrialized, on a massive scale never before seen on this planet, animal slaughtering factories of death. I am not a vegatarian or anything but you can't deny that we have constructed a somewhat sustainable industry of death....I dunno, I like meat but it is kind of a bit sick if you think about it to much. If you don't believe me, go to a slaughter house and watch how beef ande poultry is "processed". It's like Nazi death camps for animals, and like Nazi death camps, nobody sees it so it is sort of ok, not really but sort of.....huh?
LostInThePineBarrens
India...Save the dog murder the child...Yes India is just so wonderful...Not!!!
We kill children in the usa too - every week there is another instance of domestic violence, where a distraught husband kills his wife and kids... or remember the lady in texas who drowned all her children....
The point is this type of violence goes on everywhere.... in china it has become an epidemic with raids on kindergarens and preschools If you can kill a defenseless dog, then it is not so difficult to kill an innocent child.
The worst thing I ever saw on dog meat in china was a video of a sain bernard still wagging his tale as they began to cut into him, as he pleaded for mercy.
By the way the saint bernard, based on a number of taste tests proved to be more delicious that other breeds, so china, using it new found wealth imported 20,000 st bernards as breeding stock for the lucrative dog meat industry.
bearbilepropaganda,
May you be living in India ane be a poor woman, Or mya you be a dog or cow in India. Don't come the US, it is so imperfect here.
The problem is that the people in countries that have a market for bile are mostly illiterate. And why don't we as a country quit being the largest market for illegal drugs?
the illegal drug trade in the west is probably the reason we dont eat pig balls and ground rhino horn to get off. Maybe somebody should introduce them to a bit of pot or cocaine.....Im just saying. At least our people aren't running around cutting off animal penises for a buzz.
That must be fun. <end sarc>
What in the world is going to stop the Asian people from pillaging whatever they come into contact with you would thimk that since these people are so technically advanced that someone in some of these countries would wake up and stop them for such horrific animal abuse not to mention there is no need to kill shark, whales, bears, their are man made products that take the place of all of these. SO STOP THE CRUELTY OF ANIMALS AND DEPLETING THE OF ALL OF OUR OCEANS. WAKE UP... ANIMAL AND WILDLIFE ARE UNDER ATTACK AT AN ALARMING RATE. It is so ridiculous that people even believe the shark fin or bear gall bladder is an aphrodisiac. STOP THE INSANITY!!! PLEASE
bear bile are mainly use for seizure, spasm.
Rhino horn is use for cancer .
As for shark fin it is legal to sell in US except for CA.
There is no excuse for the deranged treatment of the bile bears, dogs, tigers, elephants, rhinos and any other animal unfortunatel enough to be born in china...
The one hypocritical exception is the panda, who is cherished because he brings in millions of dollars in rental fees to foreign zoos. If these fees were not forthcoming, then it is certain the chinese would be flooding the market with panda bear rugs
Ya but how any other country say anything because of the way people treat livestock?
India is the only nation with a vegitarian heritage, precisely to protect cattle. This position is part of the hindu/jain tradition, which works to help cattle consumed by others in the population such as moslems, jews, christians, zorastrians etc...
Keep in mind that the bile bears are kept in tiny cages, bile is drained several times a day, the bears often scream in pain as there are many nerves in this area. They are drained until they are too depleted to produce any more bile.
Also keep in mind that 17 million dogs are killed in legal slaughter houses for their flesh. Millions more are killed in private homes and in restaurants.... Even more perverse, superstition dictates that if the dog is agitated prior to slaughter the meat is more potent and flavorful...
The intention to torture is particularly troubling.
If they are not eaten then there is no need for them, In India the cattle roam the streets $hitting all over eating out of vendors carts spreading disease without fear of being chased while people starve...Yes such a wonderful place India...Not!!!
There are hundreds of thousands of cow sanctuaries gaushalas (cow sancturaries) in India. Every effort is made to rescue cows living in the streets.... In USA... there is only one solution possible for cows.... slaughter.
The ease with which animals are killed in the USA is quite revealing.... and indicative of a morally impoverished view...
As I said, If you are not going to eat the cows then why have them.
MMMMM...Having a nice big juicy steak for dinner
It is my experience with an Indian sister in law and indian friends at work that it is a historical vegetarian society. I'm sure they are out there but of all the Indians I know, not a single one eats meat. My brothers wife will prepair it for the hubby and kids but, well, you can't just take meat from an American...lol. You think a pitbull is nasty, try taking my burger off my plate....lol. I know....it is a flaw but I'm willing to accept a sustainable meat source that is less invasive to nature. I'm sort of interested in the progress made in "growing" meat. If it were safe it wouldnt be a bad compromise.
Also, we also have dairy cows here. They don't get slaughtered. But we do kill a hell of alot of animals here. The difference is that we built the industry and aren't just going out into nature and slaughtering the wild animals....have in the past I know, but we have learned a few lessons over the 200 years we spent destroying our home.
I just really really really hate the taste of tofu.
Troy,
You say
"I just really really really hate the taste of tofu."
So do I - but I love the taste of herbs, spices and well seasoned beans, lentils, vegetables, grains.
Your sister in law must be familiar with all the wonderful flavors of the traditional indian vegetarian diet....
lostinthepinebarrens, you say "As I said, If you are not going to eat the cows then why have them."
The cows are not around for us, but for their own kind. Animals do not exist to be exploited by humans. Their lives have inherent worth, which is not understood in dominion based nations...
The Indian religions of jainism and to a great extent hinduism respect the right of animals to be free from human inflicted viiolence:
"For there is nothing inaccessible for death.
All beings are fond of life, hate pain, like pleasure,
shun destruction, like life, long to live. To all life
is dear." Jain Acharanga Sutra
i had NO IDEA THIS WENT ON!!! sickens me! animal abuse is animal abuse-weather its to a cat, dog, monkey or BEAR!!!!! so glad these two were saved!! Good job to authorities!!!!! my gosh humans are inhumane often. Dont understand this if there are other options! makes me so sad....but THIS is a happy ending for these 2 cuties!!!
Shoot the poachers, free the bears, close down the bile factories. Hmm what else is on my list for what to do today. I really love the news but what in hell are we supposed to do about it.
Some Asians are Sick and Disgusting.
So are some of every other group on the planet. Visited a chicken, pig, or beef farm lately? Humans have treated animals horribly for a very long time, and it isn't just Asians.
Agreed but Asians seem to be willing to go the extra mile to really sift the earth of anything of value and leave barren waste land behind. They put nothing back and are willing to eat the seed.
Greenpeace needs to arm itself and get backing from Russia or China maybe Japan, Korea the north maybe? I don't know maybe they should just try to ram their boat into shore or write a letter that will do it. Fu ckin tell me the news after you have bomb the house of the factory owners. I have nt got time save 10,000 bears from a life caged for profit.
They might have a few modern looking cities but these people are still living in the Stone Age.
People need to participate and TAKE ACTION to help stop these, and other, atrocities.
Has anyone ever thought of trying to educate these barbarians on the error of their ways- how science doesn't support the medicinal claims. That the products don't work. A daunting task I know, but you have to start somewhere. And as far as the US treating livestock poorly, has anyone ever considered vegetarianism? There are so many healthy, yummy foods (including meat substitutes) that don't involve "killing" and violence. No living creature should have to die to feed us when there are so many other options. An added bonus, maybe the US wouldn't be such an overweight, lazy, hotdog eating nation! The whole "animals as commodities for ingesting" thing is absolutely disgusting no matter what kind of animal is being tortured. Cruel and Gross!
Initially we must stop the violence by causing a loss of profits, which is why I boycott... We must make a statement that we will not tolerate such intentional blatant cruelty. Violence to animals is tolerated in china and korea in a way that it is not in western nations or in India.
Recently the owner of a chinese takeout restaurant in Philadelphia was videotaped toruring cats... The video is enclosed in the following article. (edited out by abc)
So you can see how bad the violence is the following is a picture of a dog who was baked alive in in a sac:

bearbilepropaganda,
"We must make a statement that we will not tolerate such intentional blatant cruelty."
How about dealing with the widespread problem of the traffic in human flesh right here in the United States before we go worrying about China or Korea? There is no shortage of causes for activists to embrace right here.
China also traffics in human flesh... but adds the horric intentional abuse of animals to the list of barbarisms....
Yes, I agree, we need to help stop these atrocities. But HOW? What can we do? Does anyone have answers, things we ordinary Americans can do?
Kirigami.
Do not ever travel to china... they do not need our tourist dollars...
I do not buy anything made in china, not even a nail clipper. It took me teo months to find a nail clipper made in germany. My clothes come from the USA, India and Lithuania... My shoes are woolen clogs made in germany -(Stegman)...
If it is made in china, I do not need it...
