Subscribe to RSSKABUL, Afghanistan -- Two foreigners, thought to be a Canadian and a U.S. citizen, were reported missing Saturday by a provincial reconstruction team in volatile Wardak, west of Kabul, and were feared to have been kidnapped, Afghan police said.
Rumors of the abduction of a man and a woman by either insurgents or criminal gangs have circulated for several days, but U.S. and Canadian diplomats said they were unaware of anyone reported missing.
"According to the Provincial Reconstruction Team report they had planned to travel from Kabul to Wardak," Wardak police spokesman Wali Mohammad told Reuters.
"The missing foreigners were in contact until they reached the Kampany area on Kabul's outskirts. After that they lost contact," Mohammad said. "We have information they may have been kidnapped."

The kidnapping of foreigners has become relatively common in parts of Afghanistan since U.S.-backed Afghan forces toppled the former Taliban government in 2001.
NATO-led forces said they were aware of the kidnap reports, but the search for the missing pair was being handled by diplomats and Afghan police.

A U.S. Embassy spokesman in Kabul late on Friday said there was no information on a missing American, but diplomatic officials are often reluctant to talk about kidnappings in hope it could smooth the way for negotiations on a release.
Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs said it was looking into the reports, but gave no confirmation of a missing citizen.
In May, two Western female doctors working for a Swiss charity were kidnapped with two Afghan colleagues by insurgent gunmen in northeastern Afghanistan. They were later rescued by NATO special forces soldiers.

I love what MSN wrote under the picture of the man with the rifle. The U.S. is not responsible for the turmoil that has been going on for longer then ten years, and it defiantly did not start when we began going after these evil Islamic terrorists. What we need to do is stop funding to all countries in the Middle East, remove our forces and tell the U.N ti stick it.
We need polititions that believe this and do it NOW!!
1. Remove sanctions on Iranian oil to crash oil prices and weaken the fountainhead of Islamic radicalism and terrorism, Saudi Arabia. Pakistan, a pure Islamic nation, is the other guilty criminal.
2. Keep away from Muslim nations at least for a decade. Let them battle between them like Shiites vs Sunnis in Syria, Sunnis vs Sufis in Mali and so on.
3. Wind up corrupt and useless UN and all agencies as a austerity measure.
4. Pay no attention to seventh century dances by Jewish extremists like Netanyahus, oil companies, their lobbyists and cheap politicians like Hillarys, McCains, Liebermanns, and others.
Its beyond most of us why some people venture into places where your life is in danger 24/7 and 100% guaranteed...

Just because they are Canadian/U.S citizen doesn't mean they are not dual citizens of Afghanistan. Afghanistan might be their original hometown and they were visiting families. You always go back home. So they don't deserve to be kidnapped. Nobody does.
My first thought was, "Only two? In Afghanistan? Things must not be as bad there as I thought."
Why they go there is beyond me. Leave it to them to clean up their own mess. Stay out of countries that are not civil.
Afghanistan is very unsafe and they really shouldn't be letting civilians work there for reconstruction. My husband did it for 14 months and a week after he left the outpost he was doing work on was attacked and 8 people were killed. The money wasn't worth it - he was actually making $20 less than what he would have out of his own Union, but with a freeze on construction in the states at the time, it was the only work he could get. Let's hope these people are found and are safe! Hopefully our own economy will be stimulated soon so civilians don't have to work in war zones. Work in areas such as this should be left to the military.
Why should the military do it? Leave these people to their own demise. We need to stop getting involved. I am sick of hearing about countries that hate us and yet we go to help them. This needs to stop. We do not have the resources any more. No one from this country should be there.
thing is this, IF we sit back and do nothing, then we have to deal with another country hell bent on destroying America. That good people who have done nothing wrong other than walk down the street to go to school, the market, to say hi to the person a few doors down, or any other senario you can imagine we enjoy here in the US, could be made an exsample of, in the name of terror. they force innocent civilians to fight a war for them, and if they are killed, adapt that persons child to the hatred for the US, its the US's fault your father/mother are dead, not ours. revenge for most is turned into a bloodlust & hatred.

for instance, Illinoise (i didnt misspell it), wants to add a violence tax on ammo... who, other than the guy who hunts for sport, and to feed his family is going to pay for this? gas tax, tobbacco tax (lame of lame excuse) 0.10 deposit on cans/bottles are also taxed as part of purchase cost, and any other kind of tax you can think of... WE ARE TAXED ENOUGH! by the state, and by the fed to pay for these BS wars, and boots on the ground. maybe your better question ought to have been , "why dont we let our military do its job, clean house, and gtf out"?

At least this is a major NATO forces' and US contribution after sinking billions into Afghanistan and losing hundreds of soldiers! Injured soldiers' number is in thousands.
Even now, the blunder of having ungrateful and backstabbing Pakis as ally is responsible for the major mess.
It is time to take a time out and take the help of Russia and if required India to control Afghan and Paki Islamic militants!
If Paki and Afghan Islamic radicals and militants win, then the battles against them will have to be fought right in our streets within two decades.

Before reading they may of been spies! I had just watched a video or something that was about Libya and spies in the old days with a movie cover that got them out in a troubled situation, like a movie people 6. This would be as sloppy as a job as anyone could do, ha ha ha American's are idiots.

so what if they were? a movie about being a spy doesnt relfect todays situation. personally spies should be recruited from the country we seek information from (imo) where the nationality isnt such a dead give away. a blonde haired white skinned person by no means sticks out like a sore thumb in the ME do they? lol.
the point of it is, they may not have known if they abducted a spy, just a possiblee American/Canadian/German/Russian etc and are looking for a payout, in hopes for the best. yet also not to forget, we have spy agencies under the guise of buisness in America, as was a news report about 2 months ago when a head spy figure died. maybe YOU are a spy for your government, and didnt even know it? It was most foolish of these people to go to Afghanistan of all places. As far as possible, keep away from Muslim nations like Pakistan, Libya, Syria, Mali and other places.
In Afghanistan, Pakis have backstabbed the US and NATO forces big time. Half of NATO forces deaths are due to ungrateful and backstabbing Pakis.
When the NATO forces were entering Kandahar in 2001, Pakis airlifted key al-Qaida, Taliban, ISI and others militants by back door from Kandahar.
This includes Mullah Omar, Osama and many including Paki Haqqani militant network leaders.
Hope people remember about Pakis sheltering Osama.
These Paki Islamic religious Nazis don't bother about their people and they are into reckless killing games in the name of jihad.
Drone attacks are not enough. To reduce NATO forces losses, carpet bomb Paki militant areas just like 1991 Iraqi war.

This particular news was reported in EU already yesterday morning by Afghani newssite (Pajhwok News Agency) that one American and one Canadian were kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan Ghazi Province while traveling (motoring)by a car TO KABUL-the vehicle was stopped in Saldabad district. Hours later the Head of Saldabad's Public Health dept. BAZ Mohammad Asirypt told reporters that they had found a woman's body near the abduction site- clad in an Afghani dress in her 20's. Why doesn't US/State/HRC prewarn people traveling in Afghanistan of the real dangers when one woman and one man are traveling in a car together without a male relative-(read security) since they have entered the Dark Ages of Humanity-where children are decapitated-skinned alive- shot in the head for wanting peace. Afghanistan has reentered the real Middle Ages when no one is safe outside the citadels-walled fortresses and heavily armed security personnel.
Add on- wehy wait 24 hrs before thisd is reported. A suicide attack in Kandahar kills 9 (nine)and a bomb blast including 2 ISAF members-4 Afghan Intelligence officers in Maruf District of Kandahar Province. Earlier a roadside bomb ripped through a police vehicle in Qadeit -capital of neighboring Zabul province killing 2 policemen and wounding 3 others. A 12-year old boy was killed and a 10-year old girl seriously wounded when they stepped on a bomb while the children were grazing their sheep in the volatile Helman Province in southern Afghanistan. Taliban is surging due to announced withdrawal date of coalition forces.
America should vacate all countries and give NO foreign aid because it always gets in the wrong hands.Use the money to construct a spy network throughout the world and mideast and carpet bomb when necessary to keep terrorists inline and busy repairing the bomb damage.
It's wonderful that we (Canadians and Americans) live in a country that allows us to travel where ever we please, but if you're gonna be a moron and travel to places that are not safe (Chicago included), don't be shocked when you get killed.
