Updated at 2:45 p.m. ET: LONDON -- Malala Yousufzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani schoolgirl shot in the head by the Taliban, has every chance of making a "good recovery," British doctors said on Monday as she arrived at a hospital in central England for treatment of her severe wounds.
Yousufzai, who was shot for advocating education for girls, was flown from Pakistan to receive specialist treatment at a unit at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital that has expertise in dealing with complex trauma cases. The unit has treated hundreds of soldiers wounded in Afghanistan.
"Doctors... believe she has a chance of making a good recovery on every level," said Dr. Dave Rosser, the hospital's medical director, adding that her treatment and rehabilitation could take months.
He told reporters Yousufzai, whose shooting has drawn widespread condemnation, had not yet been assessed by British medics but said she would not have been brought to Britain at all if her prognosis was not good.
TV footage showed a patient, believed to be the schoolgirl, being rushed from an ambulance into the hospital surrounded by a large team of medical staff.
She will undergo scans to reveal the extent of her injuries, but Rosser said doctors could not provide any further details without her agreement.
Pakistani surgeons removed a bullet from near the girl's spinal cord during a three-hour operation the day after the attack last week, but she now needs intensive specialist follow-up care. Treatment is likely to include repairing damaged bones in her skull and complex neurological follow-up.
"Injuries to bones in the skull can be treated very successfully by the neurosurgeons and the plastic surgeons, but it is the damage to the blood supply to the brain that will determine long-term disability," said Duncan Bew, consultant trauma surgeon at Barts Health NHS Trust in London. Judging the best way forward in such difficult cases requires a wide range of experienced medics working as a team.
"In trauma, it is really the coordinated impact of intensive care that is critical. It's not just about keeping the patient alive but also maximising their rehabilitation potential. With neurological injuries that is paramount," Bew said.
Doctors said youth was on her side since a young brain has more ability to recover from injury than a mature one.
"On the positive side, Malala has passed two major hurdles - the removal of the bullet and the very critical 48-hour window after surgery," said Anders Cohen, head of neurosurgery at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Yousufzai would receive specialized care in a hospital in the country’s National Health Service system.
"Last week's barbaric attack on Malala Yousufzai and her school friends shocked Pakistan and the world. Malala's bravery in standing up for the right of all young girls in Pakistan to an education is an example to us all,” Hague said in a statement.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital is the main receiving facility for British soldiers wounded in Afghanistan, and the spokeswoman said the staff were confident they would be able to provide Yousufzai with the necessary care.

Earlier, a medical team from the United Arab Emirates decided that Yousufzai would require prolonged care to recover fully from the physical and psychological trauma, a Pakistani military statement said before she left for Britain. The panel of doctors recommended she receive treatment abroad, the statement said.
Yousufzai's family was consulted and their wishes were taken into consideration, according to the military.
Attacked while leaving school
Yousufzai was leaving school in her hometown in the Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan on Oct. 9 when she was shot in the head and neck by the Taliban for speaking out against the militants and promoting education for girls.
Yousufzai, a cheerful schoolgirl who had wanted to become a doctor before agreeing to her father's wishes that she strive to be a politician, has become a potent symbol of resistance against the Taliban's efforts to deprive girls of education.
On Sunday, tens of thousands rallied in Pakistan's largest city in support of Yousufzai.
The demonstration in the southern city of Karachi was by far the largest since Yousufzai and two of her classmates were shot.
Still, most government officials have refrained from publicly criticizing the Taliban by name over the attack, in what critics say is a lack of resolve against extremism.
Opponents of Pakistan's government and military say the shooting is another example of the state's failure to tackle militancy, the biggest threat to the stability of the nuclear-armed South Asian country.
The shooting of Yousufzai was the culmination of years of campaigning that had pitted the young girl against one of Pakistan's most ruthless Taliban commanders, Maulana Fazlullah.

‘Public revulsion and condemnation’
The attack horrified people inside and outside Pakistan and sparked hope among some that it would prompt the government to intensify its fight against the Taliban and their allies.
“The public revulsion and condemnation of this cowardly attack shows that the people of Pakistan will not be beaten by terrorists. The U.K. stands shoulder to shoulder with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism,” Britain’s Hague said in his statement.
But protests against the shooting have been relatively small until now, usually attracting no more than a few hundred people.
That response pales in comparison to the tens of thousands of people who held violent protests in Pakistan last month against a film produced in the United States that denigrated Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
Fresh Taliban attack
The Taliban struck again on Sunday night, attacking the police outpost near Peshawar with rocket-propelled grenades and gunfire, according to Reuters. Security officials said at least six policemen were killed, including two who were beheaded.
Seven policemen are still missing and presumed kidnapped. Several police cars and an armored vehicle were torched.

The Taliban has been blamed for many suicide bombings across Pakistan and have also staged sophisticated, high-profile attacks on the military, one of the biggest in the world.
Pakistan's interior minister said police had dispatched guards to protect journalists who had been threatened by Taliban militants angered by coverage of Yousufzai's case.
The Taliban, based mostly in the unruly ethnic Pashtun tribal areas near the Afghan border, have said they would now try to kill her father, a headmaster of a girls' school in Swat.

on obamas orders hillary is warming up her broom to go drop off some more of our borrowed money. its his idea of a foreign policy, it doesnt work but its all he knows how to do.
Money? Is that what Obama keeps dropping with those drones?!
As sick as it may sound to us, plenty of Muslims in that part of the world view what was done to Malala Yousufzai as a legitimate expression of religious piety. The government of another nation in the area, Iran, seeks to develop nuclear capability so that they can express their religious piety in a grander scale.
President Obama assures us that our intelligence will know when Iran is about to achieve its purpose of nuclear weapon capability. Is that the same intelligence that he tells us failed to warn us about the attack on our compound in Benghazi through which Muslims easily murdered Americans, including Christopher Stevens?
Obama relies on "Movies" for his pathetic Foreign Policy opinions....Bet he hasn't watched "2016"!!! No..actually tried to stop it from hitting the screen. That Documentary will provoke either thought, anger, or a VOTE CHANGE!!!
Bush considered backstabbing and ungrateful Gen Mush his pal.
So the went on giving money and all help to criminal Gen Mush. Now the same criminal Gen Mush is the gaurdian of human rights in Pakistan from England!
In Afghanistan, Pakis have backstabbed the US and NATO forces big time. Half of NATO forces deaths are due to ungrateful and backstabbing Pakis.
When the NATO forces were entering Kandahar in 2001, Pakis airlifted key al-Qaida, Taliban, ISI and others militants by back door from Kandahar.
This includes Mullah Omar, Osama and many including Paki Haqqani militant network leaders.
Hope people remember about Pakis sheltering Osama.
These Paki Islamic religious Nazis don't bother about their people and they are into reckless killing games in the name of jihad.
Drone attacks are not enough. To reduce NATO forces losses, carpet bomb Paki militant areas just like 1991 Iraqi war.
Or else just get out right now.
Pakistan has been receiving US Aid long before Obama was President and will be receiving Aid when he is gone, no matter who is President.
I blame all the Arab countries for allowing these sick, murderers to run a muck and the Muslims call this religion of peace. That's a huge crock.!!!!!!! woman have no rights or freedom,, they are treated as slaves and breeders. Our own Government is also to blame for given aid to these animals who show disregard for woman's rights. Aid should be earned in merits not by given them our tax money for their bribes, corruption, anti-American slanders,by killing innocent people just because we all live differently and have our own religious beliefs. I SAY STOP FUNDING AID TO THESE ANIMALS IN THE ARAB COUNTRIES.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yuck not so tasty! Obama / Hilery..What does that say ? how long did the Pakis been receiving aids ? Obama been only there 3 3/4 yrs so sicof this post.
I support the US to train and arm the new Pakistan Amazon Brigade. Show them women can defend themselves from small minded men afraid of little girls. Wonder why they are so afraid? INADEQUATE?
Yuck not so tasty! only Obama / Hilery..What does that say ? how long did the Pakis been receiving US aids ? Obama been only there 3 3/4 yrs.. so sic . more accusation no peace.
Let these people kill, shoot, behead each other, stay on sidelines. Its a religious thing, all the bombs, troops, drones won't change their thinking....leave the middle east to the middle east...if they develop (iran) a nuclear weapon take off the safety switches, and wait to see what they do....Pakistan?..these ragheads would screw you while slipping the curved dagger between your ribs. No more money to these bastards....Or....turn the planes around deploy every available troop, bomb, drone etc. and level the region.
Got to love the dumbass comments. Since clearly you don't know, almost ALL of the aid money we provide Pakistan either stays in the US or makes it's way back here. The Pakis use it to pay for services we provide them along with paying US contractors working in Pakistan who skim some off before hiring locals.
By the way, Obama simply makes the request for money. Know who actually decides how much and then provides the money? CONGRESS. Maybe you should think about that the next time you decide to flap them lips and make the stupid ass claim that Obama is giving our money to them. Aww, but if you actually did that and put the blame where it really belongs, you'd lose most of your anti-Obama rhetoric.
Brilliant journalism as usual, letting the whole world know at which hospital she will be receiving treatment. Unless of course, it is a ploy to keep them off her trail, which may then cause harm or death to other innocent people at said hospital.
Malala was targeted because her secular views were considered un-Islamic. The Taliban wanted to enforce their brand of Shariah Law which is Islamic.
The Pakistani Taliban's Rationale For Shooting A Schoolgirl
"If anyone argues about [Yousafzai's] young age, then [consult] the story of Hazrat Khizar in the Koran relating that Hazrat Khizar -- while traveling with the Prophet Musa -- killed a child," the letter reads. "Arguing about the reason for his killing, he said that the parents of this child are pious and in future [the child] will cause a bad name for them."
For those who argue that Yousafzai's shooting was not justifiable because she was female, the letter says, "then we can see the incident [in the Koran] of the killing of a wife by a blind companion of the Prophet Muhammad because she spoke insulting words about the Prophet. And the Prophet praised this act."
"The Tehrik Taliban's crime wasn't that they banned education for girls. Instead our crime is that we tried to bring the education system for both boys and girls under Shariah," the letter reads. "We are deadly against coeducation and a secular education system, and Shariah orders us to be against it."
The Taliban's justification concludes with a threat, saying: "If anyone thinks that Malala is targeted because of education, that's absolutely wrong and is propaganda by media."

Maulana Fazlullah sure scared for a little girl certainly does not like anyone opposing his wicked orders. Doesn't his tell that muslimist do not know the meaning of freedom of speech. Supressing opposing view is the top goal by these illiterate uneducated clerics that only remember rote memorization of their 7th century spec book. these clerics or imams are frogs in a deep well they only know the limited wall surrounding them never been able to advance their view to beyond their 7th century practices. The Paki government is in same bed as the talibans are, where is that corrupt/inept railway minister that placed a bounty on an American? Is he hiding under the bed? Such cowardice by the taliban and the paki government.
To latekate are you condoning what the taliban did? this the 21st century not 7th century. Just for your information Malala goes to a GIRL only school not coed somehow you are irrational or uninformed
She is just 14 years old. This shouldn't happen to any child in any country no matter the reasoning behind this attack. We have gangs that do drive by shootings and kill infants.Any human being who can commit these type of acts on anybody especially innocent children are sociopaths and should be dealt with as such.My wish is that this young lady will heal physically and mentally soon.I do not look at this act as anything to do with Islam. It was an act of sociopaths.
Ask this young girl's family if they disagree with Obama that the Taliban is on the run and under control. And latekate can quote the Koran til the cows come home but shooting someone in the name of religion makes one's "faith" an enormous oxymoron.
No, it's a different intelligence. The one that knows about attacks on our compound in Benghazi is human intelligence, which we are severely lacking in in the Islamic world.
The detection of nuclear devices is done by technology and satellite reconnaissance, of which we have the best in the world.
To all islamic muslims:
You are the most cowardly men I've ever heard tell of. You pulled an unarmed 14-year-old girl off a bus and shot her and some other girls. You fear a 14 year old girl. You must be mentally and physically weak beyond comprehension. I have never seen such cowardly grown men. Except, of course, for the Pakistanis "running" the country who are afraid of you. They must be imbeciles to fear the men who fear a 14 year old girl.
I'm not buying the protests either, by the way. I also would not be surprised if I found out her father ordered it because he was shamed.
Now, you can go ahead and get you imami's to issue a fatwha declaing jihad on me. I'm female, educated and outspoken. Just remember this, I'm from Texas and I shoot back.
Gophers. You whack them down in one place, they pop up in another.
Attn: Nobody is bashing Obama. I blame our Government no matter if its GOP/DEM in office both sides are to blame for given aid to these sick animals. The Arabs are not our friends and they never will be. So many of our men and woman in uniform died trusting the Muslim and look at what we Americans got for it more soldiers dead. As a military wife for 31 years you never trust your enemy because they can turn on you. Just like Vietnam,Korea.
Are you unable to realize that some "Islamic muslims" are also 14-year old girls, like Malala herself?
You don't have to buy anything. He is, however, the principal of the school she attends, and a committed educator himself. There is no doubt that he wants her to go as far as she possibly can, and is as proud of her as any father of such a wonderful little girl should be. At least, there's no doubt in the mind of any rational person. Morons, I can't speak for.
If you had bothered to read the article, you would have found out that she wanted to be a doctor, but he has been encouraging her to become a politician instead because he feels she can do more good that way.
It is amazing how spineless these cowards are. I don't know which are worse, the Taliban, or their government who doesn't have the backbone to stand up to them.
You make a very good argument for not having the Muslims as our enemies.
Do you know how many non-combatant Arabs died in the Iraq wars? Look it up. They have a valid reason to mourn.
Just see how brave the Taliban, Islamic religious warriors are!
Three were arrested and those two who shot Malala, a 14 year old girl, are absconding.
Just to shoot one unarmed girl, they need so many Islamic religious Nazis!
I am able to realize that she is forced to abide by muslim sharia law. And you are right, I don't have to buy anything. But I'm guessing you're a muslim and I have offended your sensibilities. And we all know what happens when a muslim man's sensibilities are offended.
P.S. I did read the article even to the point that I saw that her father is the head of a girls school.
I remember to this day the shock I experienced as a child when I learned that the apple which got Adam and Eve kicked out of the Garden of Eden was from the Tree of Knowledge. What is it about religion that causes it to fear education?
Just off the wall I'd call armed men shooting unarmed anyone let alone teenage girls at minimum a coward, your imagination can use what ever worse description you may wish as a replacement. When will the west learn there is no diplomacy/peace with people whose idea of compromise is killing you. When we finally understand that, progress then can be made. They view our compassion and willingness to compromise as weakness, and use it every time against us, so far were lucky they haven't so far procured and have been able to deploy a nuke or bio weapon as anyone that thinks they will hesitate to use it is a fool.
I'm no fan of what the president has done here at home, but he has actually up'd the covert attacks abroad and kept up the drone attacks, killing those bastards so I fail to see what your snide comment was all about.
People who complain about US aid to Pakistan don't understand the reality. Polls show nearly 90 percent of people in Pakistan have an unfavorable view of the US (more than any other country in the world). If we don't give the slightly pro-American government support, we will have another Iran or Iraq except with nuclear weapons.
@latekate "For those who argue that Yousafzai's shooting was not justifiable because she was female, the letter says, "then we can see the incident [in the Koran] of the killing of a wife by a blind companion of the Prophet Muhammad because she spoke insulting words about the Prophet. And the Prophet praised this act."
I guess you have read all of her blogs and can show/tell me where she spoke out about the "Prophet". Please show me where she said anything insulting to Muhammad. I bet $ you cannot and are talking out of your butt.
"The Tehrik Taliban's crime wasn't that they banned education for girls. Instead our crime is that we tried to bring the education system for both boys and girls under Shariah," the letter reads. "We are deadly against coeducation and a secular education system, and Shariah orders us to be against it."
The school she attends is an all girl school. It was only established after the local military drove the majority of the Taliban out of that region. Before that time it was not safe. Maybe you should read her blogs to see how it was like at that time. How her brother feared for her safety. How she had to hid her books. They did not allow women to be educated regardless of if it fit into Shariah law or not.
Coeducation actually hurts grades and causes students to perform worse at school/studies. Both men and women get distracted and are preoccupied with people from the opposite sex instead of learning. Women seem to do a little better at multitasking and still being able to complete their assignments versus men. Men have a one track mind more often then not. Both have their advantages and disadvantages so do not judge which is "better".
Secular equals a separation from church and government. The thing this country has, but right wing Christians want to make change and make "law". They are the same ignorant right wing Christians that write posts here every chance they get about how Muslims "need to be ruled by a dictator/with iron fist", "we should just carpet bomb the whole area", "how we can never trust Muslims", etc.. They would have religion in schools just like the Taliban and force it onto people. If you did not take part in the activity you would be an outcast or separate from the herd, or peer pressured into doing it. How many successful early Americans founding fathers did not belong to the church? You had to belong to the church is you wanted to be a success.
The Taliban's justification concludes with a threat, saying: "If anyone thinks that Malala is targeted because of education, that's absolutely wrong and is propaganda by media."
I guess you believe everything they say huh? I bet you believe everything that comes out of Mitt's mouth too huh? No one has ever lied in the history of the world to promote their views or to hang onto money/power? And you wonder why I call people ignorant. Why were female schools not allowed before again?
Why did we get involved in Pakistan in the first place? Did it have something to do with India and all the cheap outsourced labor we used to have over there? Have we not been trying to get them to give up their nukes too? I wonder why they have not given up their weapons... Ask a right wing conservative to hand over their gun to you since you feel threatened or feel that your life is in danger since they posses one...lol. According to your logic we should give them more weapons/nukes since "guns reduce violence". As long as you are the person WITH the gun and not the one without one huh?
No wonder Israel owns and controls the U.S.. Why we jump every time they say to. I wonder who started all the bad press about Muslims and why so many Americans are taught to hate them from birth. Maybe they want something and need our help to get it. Without our help they could not be in a position of power. Why do we send 6 billion each year to Israel for only 6 million people. I know it is earmarked for American goods, but 6 billion of free stuff each year is still free. You wonder why they get so involved in our elections. It pays them to, they get $1000 each every year. You wonder why they can afford such a large military that they use to BULLY other countries with. Ever wonder who pays for all their shows of strength and power? WE DO. Who sends its citizens to die in these wars and pays for them to? WE DO. hypocritical ignorant Americans...
I am a Christian btw that thinks about God like many Jewish people do and will save you from making a "you must be a muslim" post. I went to high school with some and lived near one family. We both rode bikes our first couple of years to get to school, and was how we meet. I stayed over at his house, ate, slept, worked at his father's stores, etc. and he did the same. He was protective of his sister like any brother would be, but not over the top. I meet many many Muslims in America because of him and am thankful that I had that education. I learned that humans are human.
I am happy she is doing alright unlike others here. They would have her and other Muslim women suffer more then they need to since "Muslims need to ruled with an iron fist" or to be "ground under your boot heel".
Tired,
I can't tell if you are arguing for or against them. Are you on the side of the Taliban? That its OK that they (and according to the Koran, their Prophet) killed a child? Or that they killed a young girl?
Maybe to you its OK that, because of a hokey movie about someone dead for centuries, there was mob violence across the whole region, but when one innocent girl is shot, barely a 100 in a small country are outraged. Or that the country in question is actually JUSTIFYING why ITS OK THE GIRL GOT SHOT.
As far as Israel's power- they have lived long... VERY LONG surrounded by enemies. And I'm not just talking about the nation of Israel with its back (literally) against the water. I'm talking about Jews across history- every few centuries ignoramouses like your self instigating violence against them. Russian Polgrams (state-sponsored mob violence against a select religious/ethnic group, though so frequently have Jews been the targets, its nearly become part of the definition) occuring several times since the 1800's- just as Muslims allow violence towards those they don't care for- like 14 year old girls.
Of course Israel is highly interested in what happens in America- we are the closest thing to an Ally they have (or ever had throughout the history of the Jews).
Let me help you with your moral compass:
WHAT THE TALIBAN IS DOING IS WRONG
WHAT THE NAZIS DID IS WRONG
WHAT THE CZAR DID IS WRONG
WHAT IRAN WANTS TO DO IS WRONG
If the Koran says its OK to kill a child because they MIGHT bring shame on a family, if the Koran says its OK to kill anyone becuase they spoke out against the "Holy Prophet", and Iran wants to bring this rule to the whole world, then guess what? Its FAR WORSE then the GOP ever could do in the US.
And just to prove you wrong about your "Americans hate Muslims": The US has been sending money (and still is since the fall of Mubak) millions upon hundreds of millions of dollars to Egypt. Millions upon hundreds of millions of dollars to Pakistan (the country which said "Its OK to shoot young girls, Shariah Law says so"), and more to countless others.
Just a question: Where do you get 6 billion to Israel? According to the last records, US AID sends 36 Million. Afghanistan gets 11,446 million (yes, that's 11.4 BILLION PER YEAR to a MUSLIM NATION), while Israel gets a whopping 2.8 billion per year
Here's your source information (unlike your unfounded claims):
In case that's a bit much for you to chew on, here's a simple breakdown:
Well, now that I think of it, I was just looking at Economic Aid- let's tally, shall we? In fact, we'll make if fair: Pakistan verse Israel:
Pakistan: 2.853 (mil+eco)
Israel : 2.835 (mil+eco)
Whoops- Still looking at those numbers? Yup, 2 Muslim nations each on their own gets more than Israel. Just blew you out of the water, didn't it? Your whole theory "Muslims are better than Jews. Jews are running this country" just went down the drain, didn't it? Plus Iraq and Egypt come in next at 2.03 and 1.6 Billion respectively.
The Taliban's "claim" they shot this girl because she was in a co-ed school is major Bravo Sierra- its Pakistan's & Taliban's way to try to save face. Worse though is the fact that, as far as Muslims go, they really don't need to. The WHOLE MIDDLE EAST should have been in FLAMES based on what should have been a proportionate response considering how they reacted to the "movie" that, until they started their little games, had maybe 6 viewers world wide. Yet all is quiet.
But then again, what do you expect from a religion where if a women is raped, the victim's choices are jail for the rest of her life, or marry her rapist? And remember, in these countries, their religion runs their government, so this is their government saying this as well.
@whyriz
Listen I'm just pointing out the reasoning behind Taliban's persecution of Malala. I would assume that to understand a crime you would need to identify motives and from reviewing this letter I would conclude that the Taliban are indeed inspired by their interpretation of the Koran. Malala wanted a secular education which means an education without Islamic influence. Just a while back the name of Pakistan's only Nobel laureate, particle physics Professer Abdus Salam was removed from school textbooks for being a heretic. Does this sound like a secular education to you? It appears that Pakistan may indeed share some of the Taliban's ideology as I tried to point out.
Social and Behavioral Restrictions (from a Islamic website)
The same rules that apply to Islamic women in the workplace or outside of the home, must also apply in education. Most importantly the religious practices must remain a priority. Class schedules or events must not interfere with noon prayers, fasting or holy days. In an article by IslamWeb regarding working outside the home, it is stressed that women must always dress and behave to “maintain her inwardly and outwardly modesty and chastity.” This would include not being alone with unrelated male members of the family.
Taliban view on Education
The Taliban claimed to recognize their Islamic duty to offer education to both boys and girls, yet a decree was passed that banned girls above the age of 8 from receiving instruction. Maulvi Kalamadin insisted it was only a temporary suspension and that females would return to school and work once facilities and street security were adapted to prevent cross-gender contact. The Taliban wished to have total control of Afghanistan before calling upon an Ulema body to determine the content of a new curriculum to replace the Islamic yet unacceptable Mujahadin version.
So as you can see the Taliban's letter matches their ideology on education.

I'm betting the CIA is a little more focused on Iran they were on Benghazi but in any case if you think we can watch every group that hates us in the world , as they try to conceal their activities, then you've been watching to many Mission Impossible movies.
The sad part is you probably don't really give a rats ass about Benghazi and the deaths there other than to use it for policail fodder.
No one or no Administration is perfect so try using some common sense if you have any.
PS Did you bitch about the Bush adminitration when he claimed he had bad intel and it lead us into a war with Iraq or did you vote for him again?
Why wasn't she brought to the US or to our Military Hospital in Germany.....as soon as she was able to travel. I would have sent Air Force One.
hopefully she wont have to go back to pakistan and she and her entire family can seek asylum in the UK.
If one goes on giving asylum, then half of Pakistan will be eligible!
rockmebritney, I agree; the article says at the end the taliban cowards now plan on targeting Malala's father because he is head of a girl's school, quite possibly same school as Malala was attending.
As for attacks on Obama, they have decreased aid to Pakistan because of the govt's refusal to get tough with the taliban and al qaeda; he has also increased drone attacks in that portion of Pakistan where the taliban cowards are. John McCain suggested we send US troops to Pakistan to help fight the Taliban so where do you think we'd be if he had won 4 years ago, besides still having troops in Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Richard, that was my thinking also and who knows she may well end up in US for rehab care when she recovers enough. I think her entire family should be brought to US for safety sake.
Richard if that was done people would be screaming that Obama is wasting taxpayer money.
Wasting taxpayer money has been his only consistent act, Harleman. Vote out this inept individual.
What about Bush blowing our surplus on 2 wars? The US has been blowing money for all time but it's a crisis when Obama is doing it all of a sudden, where was the Tea Party during Bush's 2 terms as President?
They were at work. They had jobs.
What's stopping them from getting a job? If you want a job you will get a job, if that isn't enough get 2 jobs. Don't blame not working on Obama, if you want work you will find work.
arslp...saving GM sure was a waste of taxpayer money, eh? Commies saving Capitalism...that's really funny. Typical right wing logic. (or lack of)
It's too late, the only way the American medical system could have helped her is immediately after the attack. We are number one in emergency care, but pretty much dead last in every other aspect of our health system (quality of life, life expectancy, infant mortality, general care, etc.) in the Western world.
Heh, he,he,heh... I'm still happy Europe took the step of caring for her proved whom is more qualified than they are in this critical time. However the 2face Pakis never give thanks for good deeds in time of critical needs. Just wait and see.
@Richard; I think that the removal to the UK was logical and strategic move. It is likely that she could have gotten sufficient medical care in Pakistan, but the facility of treatment might [probable] have been under attack by Taliban. So removal would promote safety of others. Remember there were other girls hit in the attack on Malala. The UK hospital used for UK soldiers returning from the area was a logical location for removal. If foreign specialists are needed, including US doctors perhaps, they can access Malala safely in the UK.Second, removal will limit local protests and reduce concrete local targets for Taliban murder of innocent civilians. At the same time, the ISSUE will remain in the public eye. Unfortunately, the Taliban now say they will attack Malala's father because he dares to educate young women.
She could not afford one of the Repugs Insurance Plans with her coupon.
It is amazing how some cultures treat their women.
Here in the U.S. we have a sore lack of good women, and over there they treat good women like garbage. Amazing.
@arslp, you need to go look at the data. The main contributors to our $16 trillion debt are the two wars (which Bush kept off the books and which Obama put on the books and is now winding down), and the Bush tax cuts (which hopefully Obama will be able to end). The bailouts can't be pinned on Obama. TARP was started before he was in office. He did extend TARP, but under his plan (and unlike the Republicans), those expenditure were treated as loans, not outright giveaways. The one area you can possibly pin on Obama is the stimulus. But it's actually only a small sliver of the debt. (Again, go look at the data.) And 40% of the stimulus were tax cuts Republicans wanted. If you want to blame Obama for the escalation of the debt, you really, really need to educate yourself.
What kind of cowards are these barbaric aholes to shoot an innocent little girl, they need to be on a oppisite side of a warhead......their time draws near!
This is shocking, right? But atrocities like this happen ALL OVER the Middle East ALL the time-we just don't hear about it. But lest we think ourselves here in the U.S.A. above this kind of heinous acts, is not the kidnap and murder of Jessica Rigeway, the 10 year old little girl from Witt Elementary in Colorado this past week just as, if not more, gruesome? And who knows what her kidnapper's did to her before they chopped her body up and buried her in a backyard. Or the father in Washington (state) who chopped his two sons (ages 7 and 5) up with an hatchet, then killed himself before setting their house on fire--and who previously had killed his wife two years prior. Or what the theater shooting in Colorado that James Holmes unleashed? The mass-shootings at colleges. Religious dogma to blame? Sometimes--many times throughout history.
Our 9/11 Twin Towers will forever be etched in the memories of those who lost loved ones in that heinous act and we as a country, as will Timothy McVeigh's bombing of the Oklahoma Federal Building.
Terrorism? What is terrorism? Emotionally and politically charged? Terrorism involves violence or the threat of violence; there are over 100 definitions of terrorism; McVeigh is labeled a "Domestic Terrorist." And what of the emotionally charged gasoline fire, AK-47's and mortar attack in Benghazi? According to ABC News, "On Sept. 11, Stevens did not leave the compound because of security fears due to the 9/11 anniversary. He had arrived in Benghazi the day before with five guards in total. Two additional Diplomatic Security agents from Tripoli were with him in addition to the three agents normally detailed to the compound." The compound roughly the size of a football field, surrounded by 9 feet high reinforced walls (cement) with another 3 feet of concertina wire. No one "Just" walks inside a camp. But even our military seem to get attacked "inside the perimeter" in Afghanistan. Is this terrorism? Or do we just "Accept" this as "Acts of War" and "Collateral Damage"?
Is there a difference between loss of American (and our Allies) lives in Afghan and the loss of life of the four Americans in Benghazi? Or does being a casualty in war something our military "Accepts" when they sign the proverbial, dotted line? Are "civilian" lives more valuable than our service men and women's lives?
Anyone working overseas in ANY capacity, is subject to the calamity of circumstances in whichever country they are in--whether working or visiting. For no one is guaranteed one single minute of life anywhere, at anytime. Not even here in the United States.
What happened in Benghazi is nothing "out of the ordinary" in the Middle East. It is unfortunate that the compound was attacked. But the senseless kidnap and death of 10 year old, Jessica Rigeway in Colorado, USA is just plain gruesome.
BS - I've been to their rallies. Most retired before Bush took office.
Well if that's your view...perhaps you should move to Pakistan...
Unless the people of the region rise up against the Talibans they will continue to grow like a disease. Similar to Hitler we let that SOB grow and almost cost us our civilization.
Wonderful! This young lady, Malala will be a great Leader for Women of
Pakistan.
Surely, she will not go back; she is still being hunted down by the
Taliban.
She will always symbolize the torture women of Extreme Islamists and the
Religion of Peace put upon their women, and young female children..
Sounds to be like the Pakistani officials are either deathly afraid of the Taliban OR are linked to them that may expose the current political officials.
You would expect Pakistan to declare "war" on the Taliban after this. Where is their official response?
More than a few years ago when the Irish Catholics and Protestants were busy blowing each other up somebody hit a school and killed some kids. It made the whole country stop and really LOOK at what had been going on for so long. Senseless killings. I would hope the shooting of a 14 year old girl would cause a country to oust the Taliban for the premeditated murder of children.
On the other hand, however, the Obama administration's latest explanation for the September 11 attack on Benghazi (the explanation has changed several times since it happened. The "investigation will not yield any permanent conclusions until after the election!) puts the responsibility for that fiasco on the supposed ineptness of our intelligence community.
What a bunch a godless cowards those Taliban and other murdering groups of like groups are. If that is the kind of god they worship, it's a perfect reflection about their beliefs and their behavior. If a real god advocated this kind of behavior, he would not be a god. He would be a vile evil creature that does not deserve any worship. They might as well be worshiping a goat headed pig, or a pig headed goat. Their god is a coward and and evil slime sucking the souls from the stupid believers that follow it. If it was a true god that designed and created the entire universe, it would not expect it's "believers" to murder children. Only an evil scum sucking pig @!$%# god would expect that kind of behavior from it's believers. I true god would love all of it's children. Their actions prove exactly what kind of god they worship. They are a bunch of child molesters and murdering cowards.
woman or the world should ahoits ashame we can't take buses over there and take a stand against these cowardly men who are afraid of girls and women and stand behind god and religion to justify this action these are these are not men these are cowards
That young girl is a hero. They should build monuments to her is Pakistan, and other middle east countries. Compared to her, there is not a single Taliban soldier with as much courage. She knew the risks, and voiced her opinions anyway. She fought an overwhelming zealot force with words and, though wounded, she won!!! We can only hope there are more heroes such as her in her country that will stand up to the unreasonable and archaic belief system that obviates women to the roll of slaves. Her name should be shouted from as many "pulpits" as there are Mosques to shout it from. If the children from this country (US) would spend just one year in one of those countries, they would be much more appreciative of the freedoms they have here. As a retired soldier, I can honestly state that she is as courageous and heroic a person as any soldier who has stormed the beach, or rushed the hill. Her name should be in the prayers of all who believe. The real god will exact his revenge on her shooters.
Pakistan has great doctors..there are plenty of doctors in the USA from Pakistan.
The real reason most likely she was transfer out is because the Pakistan government doesn't want anymore protests by the people!
The people of Pakistan need to wake up to the barbaric trash in their midst and deal with it becasue their military won't. One would think that by now they would realize Taliban is not in their best interest.
earthycat 777 banned for racist remarks.
The Talibans worst nightmare. A 14 year old Martyr that will dog them for the next 75 years. Best wishes and speedy recovery!
What a cruel and pathetic world that young girls, and women, are so poorly thought of.
I am thinking it was, again, bad judgement to post the hospital she will be in.
Wishing you a full, speedy, and safe recovery, Malala.
Yes the Talibans are really worst deadly nightmare, but have patience and faith, the longest rope have it's end too.
I doubt the cowards would try to get to her in the UK. They'll be waiting for her if she returns.
Did you notice, they are going to try and kill the Father now. Do they have gun control in Pakistan? The citizens need to arm themselves and do away with the taliban. We hung the wrong guy when we took out Saddam, it is men like him that keep those crazy Muslims in check. Sure they are evil, that is why they are able to control the evil radicals. Keeps us from being involved.
Bullet171- are you kidding me? Gun control in that region is "who is holding the gun"
Yeah but you never hear of a good Muslim shooting a bad guy or protecting his neighbor or even fending off an attack?
We should do all we can to ensure the young woman's survival.and just off the wall I'd call armed men shooting unarmed anyone let alone teenage girls at minimum a coward, your imagination can use what ever worse description you may wish as a replacement. They could care less, if fact, it's an effective tactic in suppression of protest. It's only a nightmare if the individuals involved would never consider such a barbaric act. Since they committed the act, it's not an issue for them.
You'll note that the Pakistani Military and Government have not condemned the attack. It appears they feel it's not their problem.
I have seen and heard this child speaking on TV. Ever hear the expression "an old soul"?
She is wise way beyond her years and has knowledge and viewpoints seemingly honed by untold years of experience. I did not believe in re-incarnation, but she seems much older and wiser than her years. Have you heard her?
amazing interview...
If ,and hopefully when, she recovers, she could become a VERY potent force in Pakistan's futue. That's why the taliban is AFRAID of her!!
@Bullet171 Have you not heard the saying "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns"? Gun control would do little good to stop the outlaw Taliban.
old doc, listen to Uncle Gar who said it perfect........
Boy those taliban are brave aren't they? I mean, think about the guts it would take to attack a 14 year old school girl. Kinda like going up against Hit'er's Germany alone, don't you think?
ALLAH SAVED MALALA as testimony against the Taliban-brand of Islam. Allah gave the doctors that will save her life the ability to learn the skills they will use to repair the damage created by the infidels called "Taliban."
This is what they don't understand:
Malala isn't the infidel, she's the prophet.
TALIBAN, YOU ARE THE INFIDEL.
Now. Islam, those who follow, take that word above, and spread it throughout your people.
Nah, I don't know why I even post... you likely won't... I don't think that Muslims are even allowed to recognize this little girl as even capable of being a prophet.
"Bullet171
Yeah but you never hear of a good Muslim shooting a bad guy or protecting his neighbor or even fending off an attack?"
Maybe thats because you don't read the Pakistain Daily news? Do you really think US papers report everything that goes on there? Geezzzz

Yeah I highly doubt they read the Newsvine on MCNBC heck they probably don't read at all and if they do it's not English LOL
Who knew that the worst threat to the Taliban would come from a 14 year old little 'girl'?
I agree with Richard no expense should be with withheld by our government (USA) to get this girl treatment, after which she should be able to continue her work with the help of the United States. People when are we (USA) going to stop being a bunch of pussies and put a stop to these barbarians in our world, the sooner we exterminate them the sooner we can move to a peaceful world, Every free person in the world should be truly pissed off by this event and start doing somthing about it.
Everyone in the Free World is pissed EXCEPT Obama....not a word...Maybe she doesn't look like his daughter?? or maybe she dared to speak out against ANY RADICAL MUSLIM MOB??? You can expect an apology on her behalf and a token of solidarity to be extended to the Muslim Brotherhood vis a vis MONEY any day now. As Obama says in his wet "Dreams" book, he will always "stand with the Muslims".
It was speaking out against the muslims that has prevented any help for this girl - and not enough American awareness. How long was it after the attack on our Libyan ambassador in Benghazi was the "commander-in-chief" (tongue in cheek) making excuses and blaming it on a video? Instead of protecting the embassy, we take away their security, allow them to be killed, and blame a videographer. Their attack lasted 5 hours! 5 hours!
http://abcnews.go.com/International/libya-consulate-hit-attacks-lasted-hours/story?id=17215154
We still - (despite the fact that this man would suppress any oppositional voice, if he could - for our own good, of course) - have free speech and 1st amendment rights in this country, do we not? No - it was the video and not terrorists that killed our ambassador. What a buffoon. An outright buffoon. Under this goofball, the world laughs at us, and why shouldn't they? He apologizes for this country and is a muslim sympathizer.
Here is the paragraph (verbatim) from which the quote “I will stand with the Muslims” is misquoted (The Audacity of Hope page 261):
"Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded of the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."
When taken In context and quoted accurately, President Obama is clearly speaking of American immigrants - Arabs and Pakistanis for example - not “Muslims.” I should hope that any American President, including Governor Romney if elected, would stand with Americans should the political winds shift in an ugly direction; especially if the political winds shift in an ugly direction. If our President does not stand with Americans, no matter their heritage, then we are in grave danger of becoming vulnerable to outside forces by virtue of our divisibility. When Americans are determined to NOT rally behind their elected leaders, can we blame other nation's peoples for not doing so - without making ourselves hypocrites?
James Weir- I don't think your description of Americans being a "bunch of pussies" about terrorists is a fair or applicable description. How many Americans have been overseas fighting these bastards the past 11 years? Are their families pussies remaining behind, not knowing if they'll see they're loved ones again? People have had to adapt to a lot these past years and I have yet to see people running like Henny Penny in the streets shouting "the sky is falling". Sorry, but that makes no sense to me.
I also agree, but it shouldn't be done in America or our medical system. The number three killer in America is iatrogenic death (medical related death). Besides that fact we're only top notch in emergency trauma care, Malala is past that point. Everywhere else we're at the bottom of the barrel in the Western world. She needs to go somewhere with a better medical system like the UK.
And what is different between what the Muslims are doing to women and what Lyin Ryan wants to do with womens rights.
Would all you anti-Obama people please stop blaming the president for our Libyan ambassador in Benghazi's death? That's a request from the ambassador's father himself! His father is really pissed off that many are turning his son't death into political ammunition. Look it up -- don't believe me.
How about showing some respect?
It was not an Embassy, it was a Consulate. US Marines attached to Embassies are there to protect and destroy secret documents if necessary. Marines are not attached to Consulates because they do not house secret documents. That's how it's been since we've had Embassies; but I guess you can single out the 44th POTUS and give all the others...and Congress a pass.
"Moderate" in Madison: you're a moderate like I'm Winston Churchill. Your screen name should be "Reactionary in Racine."
Your ignorance is appalling, and it sounds like your politics are slightly to the right of Attila the Hun, so please don't insult our intelligence by pretending you have any clue about being a "moderate." What you are is just another reactionary whiner blaming Obama for everything including World War II.
Hopefully, after he's re-elected you will all shut the f**k up.
"Moderate in madison
Everyone in the Free World is pissed EXCEPT Obama....not a word...Maybe she doesn't look like his daughter?? or maybe she dared to speak out against ANY RADICAL MUSLIM MOB???"
You are a major idiot!
In addition to airlifting the young woman for medical purposes, they wanted to make certain that the Taliban didn't finish the job, as they had threatened to do. Good call--and a tactical mistake on the behalf of the Taliban. If they had simply bided their time, they could have probably taken out the young woman weeks or months later and then bragged about it. Instead, in their hubris, they had to telegraph their intentions, and thus make the woman an even stronger symbol.
It is not as simple as you imagine.
Islamic religious madness at its worst ever in the history is being displayed in Pakistan.
Pakistan is supposed to be a pure Islamic nation.
In Pakistan, first it was massive genocides of minorities from 48-50 as soon as Pakistan was formed in 47.
Percentages of Hindus and Sikhs were reduced from about 24 percent less than three years by rapings, stealing, lootings, terrorizing and killing on a massive scale.
Now the Paki Islamic religious madness has not ended there.
They are after Ahmedias, Sufis (fake love and dance Islamic soap opera people), Shiites and Baloochs and other minority sects.
Shiites form eighteen percent.
While praying their mosques are blown to pieces on Fridays and even hospitals are bombed to kill those injured.
One Malala case won't make much difference.
The biggest danger is from Paki nukes falling into Islamic militant hands.
Jonathan...that is so true....all of these people on this post that are screaming bomb Pakistan and cease relations with them don't really see the big picture as to why the US is maintaining Pakistan as an ally..Those Nukes...If the US turn their back on the Pakastanis, the taliban will get their hands on those nukes and we all will be gone....
Gwenie: Taliban poses bigger dangers to India, Russia and China than the US.
Dump Pakistan and have alliance with them.
80 percent of world problems including economic ones are due to mad Sunni Saudi and Paki Islamic religious Nazis.
Iraqi wars and sanctions on Iranian oil are Sunni Saudi, oil companies and their lobbyists inventions. Here Jewish lobby also plays its part.
Shiites vs Sunnis battles are centuries old. It is going on in Syria, Iran, Pakistan and other Muslim nations.
Support Shiites for their own Shiastan where they form more than 10 percent. No soldiers on the ground ever!
Enemy of enemy is friend. Period!
In foreign policies, there are no permanent friends or enemies!
This sure says it all for Pakistan. They tolerate Al Qeda, and the Taliban, kill people that violate their blasphemy laws, and burn and loot if someone half a world away makes a video critical of their prophet, They can and do build nuclear weapons, yet they do not have adequate ffacilities to care for their seriously injured citizens.
Maybe their nukes will self detonate. Problem solved!
Whoomph !!! Amen Terry and they know how to keep their trap shut to hide Osama, and grinned their critters with their dark secret hidden from the "US" until the secret was uncovered, again same pale 2 faced flatfoot..
wow, Terry, you sure know THEM!
@Tommy Gunn. You really need to catch up on current events dude. Read the news, and read it in several different places to help remove the bias. Good luck with that.
She was NOT taken to the UK for treatment; her and her family were will end up living there. The Pakistanis are giving in to the Taliban and removing a rallying symbol for girl's education, with the British government being ever so helpful. The cause of girl education loses and the Taliban win, nearly as thoroughly as if they'd killed her.
If she truly needed 'specialized care', she'd be in the States. But then, we'd expect her to go back.
Regardless prooved same. Politic is a zigzag puzzle with secret rendevouse but who cares ? the west are major world leaders, and the reps wants to riddle it come 11/2012...
Her Republican Healthcare Voucher will not cover specialized care, that's why the NHS had to take her.
Moderate in madison-
In what fantasy world do you live in where you would be deemed "moderate"?
Well said, camille-937145! That was my thought about "moderate in madison"!
The Pakistani girl is an inspiration to all and the Middle East is in very sad need of inspirational reform. I'll focus on that as a positive and let the negatives disintegrate. Change there will have to come from within and from women, mostly.
And remember the black dog with the president Obama head Egyptians displayed in response to the alleged V.T ? These are the results displaying today. bringing civilization to these wild sand people. Steering them to have the facilities for the coming days they will profit from. This is where greed lead to unroot Obama / Hillery. But let it be thy will Lord welcome 11/2012 forward Obama / Biden / Hillery 4 more Years.
Please add my tiny voice to those now speaking out for an end to the Taliban.
May she recover well. What a courageous girl.
Is it me, or does anyone else think they should not publicize where they are taking this poor girl for treatment? I'm hoping it's a ruse to mislead those who still want her dead.....
Even announcing the time that she will arrive at the hospital. The Taliban is far reaching, hopefully it is a ruse, and not the actual time or place.
Wanting a 14 year old girl killed. How utterly vile and sickening. Taliban swine will try/do anything. Security should be on high alert upon her arrival one would think.
Ah, but you notice, the time and place is in a CIVILIZED nation- not only might it be a misdirection, but (pray hope I am correct) an ambush where civilized laws will punish the guilty, even if the Muslims will not.
Indeed, Shawn1999.
A sure example of failed cultures and government is to look at where and how often they use the cultures they hate for what they need. Pakistan, Iran and other Islamic countries routinely send their elite or newsworthy people to non Islamic countries for medical care. If Islam and Islamic Republics were so advanced they would have the medical care and schools for their people. Interesting thought.
It always amazes me how the people in the Middle east can kill, but when it comes to medical treatment, or saving someone's life, they have to be flown to a civilized western country!
The 2 options were the UK and the UAE from what I've read. UAE is a muslim country.
As a matter of fact the UAE has branches of our own elite medical programs as this is what the Sheiks want and they have the money to get it. The Shah of Iran himself traveled to the Mayo Clinic for cancer care, so the reality is none have their own advanced facilities they buy them from us.
The new Children's Hospital at Johns Hopkins was partially built with huge donations from the UAE. And the hospital loves taking patients from there because the pay in hard, cold US dollars - full price.
We do have the best medical technology in the USA, it's a shame we're the worst at using it.
They protest,(peacefully), in the hundreds when a thug regime such as the Taliban attempts to murder a little girl. Then, they protest, (violently), in the tens of thousands when a wingnut makes a home movie about some fictitious character they claim to worship. They are doomed.
Exactly, what they need to do is root out the Taliban who lives among them and start slaughtering them every time they kill an innocent. The go crazy over some stupid Movie ridiculing their make believe Prophet? Just shows you how STUPID and gullible they are, go away Taliban.
I think that you have that backwards, all of the news said it was a small percentage of the population protesting the video, and they are saying thousands protesting over the shooting of this little girl.
Huh..................I think you have it backwards.....read the story again...........the protests over the young girl "paled in comparison" to the protests over the video.
These taliban and islamic savages don't deserve to live. Kill them all now. Send in a seal team with remote detonators and light up all of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal. Problem solved. For you bleeding heart liberals, I understand that there may be civilian casualties, but oh well. The Pakistan government has no concern about our military and civilian casualties in their country, so why should we give a rat's a--s about theirs?
Kids, the word of the day is: genocide.
</sarcasm>
If they don't give a rat's @$$ about their own people, then why should we? The good, innocent people are going to be made into Martyrs no matter what happens- I'm sure they would prefer being our Martyrs instead of the Taliban's- at least then they would know their sacrifice was not in vain, but for the betterment of the world in general. Besides, can you imagine how many top AQ/Taliban/Haqqani leaders we would probably get in the process? I mean, Pak hid Obama for 10 years, how many others are they hiding?
Oops- Osama, not Obama (but hey, Politicians- Repub and Demo- are just as bad as Terrorists, so, I guess either way it works).
The said part of this, it took this girl getting shot for the Taliban to be hunted down by THE PEOPLE of the region.
Juan,
The sad part is, only a few hundred people in all the Middle East actually care. The Western world cares more and is more horrified by what has happened then they are. The Pakistani government is actually condoning this act, citing the Koran to show precedence and reason why this was a good thing. If the response had been just HALF of what the response to the cray guy's "movie" was, I would say there was hope for the region. But out of millions in Pakistan alone- only a few hundred? The entire US mourned when we learned of the "movie killer". The entire Western world was shocked and is praying for this little girl. Yet out of milions and millions, only a few hundred- less than .00001%- of Islam actually cares and sees this as a bad thing. That is the sad part. this is what Islam is always seen as "evil". Any group that can tolerate these acts, justify these acts, any group that believes a rape victim's only options are jail for her life or marry her rapist- those groups are, in fact, evil.
I think this is a major part of the problem in any encounters we have with muslims. They do not value life the way the modern world does. They are more incensed by a cartoonish clip than an attempted assasination of a helpless child. What the rest of the world views as a dire problem in need of help, they view as a normal standard of living. You can't help people who don't even believe they have a problem. They WANT to live like people of the middle ages, all we should be doing is making sure they are isolated from the enlightened world for our safety.
I hope the Brits have upped security at the hospital. This is one huge target and PR prize if they can kill this poor child in a western setting.
Thanks for letting them know that
A country that has nuclear weapons doesn't have the medical expertise or facilities to deal effective with a gunshot wound and rehabilitation. What a commentary on human priorities....
sounds like america.....vet system ring a bell.

. . . sure, when we stop covering viagra for the lame and the limp.
While I might agree, please remember that the gunshot wound penetrated her cerebellum- even most hospitals in the US and other Western areas would have to medivac the patient to a more specialized location, most likely located in a major metropolitan/high tech area. The slightest mistake and this young women may wake up without her memory, or having to relearn just how to walk and talk and chew solid food. Or may not wake at all. That they were simply able to stabilize her for transport is a miraculous feat in and of itself. My mother worked in an ER in a small town about 2 hours west of Chicago- a patient came in with her head half lopped off (she tried to run her VW under a Semi-trailer). As soon as the patient was stabilized, she was medivaced to Chicago (where they saved the patient who was able to live out the rest of her life more or less normally).
This is the real war on women. Just like the woman in Saudi Arabi jailed for driving a car or the Iranian woman who had her nose cut off for not covering her face. Dems like to posture Repubs are anti-women for supporting an employer's right to their own opinion on birth control and abortion. At the same time, from Obama on down, they feel we need to 'understand' the Taliban, Al Qida and Muslims in general. These people, a term used very loosely, are barbaric. Americans need a dose of perspective.
We got a dose of perspective on 9/11. Problem is time fades both the memory and the lessons we should have learned from that tragedy. The World in general needs to stand up to countries that won't openly and actively pursue cowards like the Taliban within their own borders, and basically tell them they are on their own until they are serious about controlling the problem. When they are serious then offer them whatever they need to combat the problem. Once the problem is at least controlled or contained, then back off. Let them run their own country.
Republicans are making it more difficult for women to access birth control. Having access to birth control should not be an "opinion". Women are not incubators and should have the right to at least prevent pregnancy. Pregnancy puts a large toll on a woman's body.
The state of Wisconsin quietly passed a law making it more difficult for women to sue for equal pay. Why would they do this? How is this not an attack on women?
As a woman, I see that our freedoms are being attacked and slowly, slowly, our rights are going to disappear. The fear is that we will eventually end up more like our enemies than not. I am concerned that more women aren't aware of what is happening, or concerned enough to try to stop it. Their grandmothers and great grandmothers fought for equality, sometimes with their lives. Women today have forgotten what it took to get here.
Lovely,
If you want birth control go to Wal-Mart and buy it! The government isn't your Daddy or your Momma.
Lovely,
As a woman, you should be ashamed of yourself for viewing yourself as a perpetual victim. Let me put a hypothetical scenerio before you: I am a religious woman with my own business. Contraception and abortion are against my beliefs. As such, I do not wish to pay for these services as part of the health insurance plan I provide my employees. You work for me and participate in the health plan, but want coverage for birth control.
As women, which of our rights are being violated? Are you being attacked because I don't want to pay for contraception? Am I being attacked by being forced to go against my beliefs?
You seem to draw a straight line from birth control to Taliban oppression. You would be wise to remember that under Taliban-like rule you would never be allowed to have, let alone express an opinion.
sjacobs123 Contraception and abortion are against my beliefs.
than i expect you to do your christian duties and open up your home to take care of these babies.....awww, how noble of you. what a joke.....
BS,
You failed to answer the question: Who's right are being violated the business onwer forced to provide birth control against her beliefs or the employee who wants birth control be provided but can't her employer does not believe in it?
Save the bleeding hear bull for someone else. It is well documented that conservatives are 4x more generous contributing to charities than liberals. This follows their views on the role of government: conservatives believe in less government and taking care of ourselves and fellow man; liberals believe government should take care of us all.
you can do whatever your heart desires but to throw your "space god" into the mix and not open your home is hypocritical. who said i was a liberal or conservative? thats your simple minded self caught in the system as im not registered as either and by your voice your a sheeple. oats for breakfast?
Nobody has the right to force their beliefs on someone else. There is such a thing as separation of church and state. Fine, you don't believe in contraception, but your employees might, and as a business, that is regulated by state and federal rules, you are obligated to follow the law.
BS,
You are the one who brought up space god. My question, which you still have yet to answer, is very simple:
Whose rights are more important: the business owner who does not believe in providing birth control or abortion service; or the employee who wants those services? In my opinion, the employee is free to seek employment elsewhere if she wants those services covered. However, if the law requires business to offer those services as part of the health insurance plan, the business owner's rights are being denied.
As you seem deeply concerned about fairness, I am quite curious about your response. Please skip the rehetoric and provide a straight forward answer. An explaination would be greatly appreciated as well.
Huh?
There is no arguing a business must follow the law. The question is is the law constitutional if it infringes on an individual's religious beliefs.
In my opinion, a business owner (not necessarily the business itself) is a citizen just like the employees. Therefore, the business owner should have the right not to have to pay for contraceptives. Again, the emplyee always has the right to work somewhere else.
I seriously doubt there would be support if the opposite were the case. Imagine if the business owner believed women should take birth control until they were ready to have children. Would it be a violation of the employees' rights to make the taking of a contraceptive a condition of employment?
Lovely,
No one is arguing whether or not you have the right to prevent pregnancy, have an abortion, etc. It's your choice. You certainly do. You also acknowledge an individual's right to their own religious beliefs / values. What you have confused is the difference between the exercise of your rights and the obligation of someone else to pay to exercise that right. If your employer does not cover contraception, you are still able to purchase it on your own.
Business owers, especially small businesses are people with rights as citizens. Business owners must pay a minimum of 50% of the single employee rate to provide a health insurance benefit. Requiring an employer to cover contraceptive, abortion services, etc. is a violation of the business owners individual rights.
Again, it all comes down to is it right to place one citizens rights above those of another.
SJacobs..............does this view of yours extend to corporations that lean toward right wing views, corporations such as Chik Fila.....who employ thousands of people.......should Chik Fila and any other conservative corporations be allowed to deny birth control coverage under their insurance plans ? If you as a small business are allowed to deny coverage, then where does it end ??? with you, with corporations that have thousands of employees ???? where ????
The 'Separation of Church and State' statement has been distorted and manipulated by the Left over the years. Taken in the context of the time in which it was written, that part of the Constitution was intended to prevent the Federal government from establishing an official State religion, and to prevent the new Nation from becoming a Theocracy. It's intent was never to justify completely eliminating God or Christian beliefs from Government. Like it or not, this country was founded under Christian principles, morals and values. We are free to worship whatever religion we like without prosecution. But separation of Church and State was never intended to support removing the 10 commandments from government buildings, or preventing invocations or prayers before Government functions, or having Christmas decorations in the local fire station or County courthouse.
It was founded on Deist beliefs- a Judeo/Christian Morality, but without the "hardcore, follow the Bible or else" mentality- a belief that God (the Creator, the Architect, etc.) is out there and is a GUIDING force- not an OBLIGATORY force. A respect for all his creations (human and otherwise) and for one's right to believe as they choose, but not for allowing the Church to dictate the affairs of Government (as it was doing in Europe and elsewhere at the time). That Jesus was a good guy but whether or not he was God is entirely up to each individual, that the Government wasn't going force it down the throats of those who believed, say, he was a Prophet and Holy man, but not God. This is why it states "In God we Trust", not "In Jesus Christ's Name" (or whatever the exact verbiage the Church uses- its been 15 years and I don't exactly recall)
Poor little sjacobs thinks their poor little rights are infringed on. I wonder if it ever occurred to little sjacobs, whiner in chief, that BUSINESS is governed by LABOR LAWS and NOT the bible. You whiners about "your rights" should be embarrasses for yourselves and you lack of understanding anything. If you want your religious beliefs to come first, start a church. If you want to go into business, stop your whining and obey labor laws. There in lies the problem with you wackos. You think that what YOU believe trumps everything. Including the law. Maybe you should read that little piece of paper you constantly tout but clearly know nothing about. It's called the US Constitution. Ever hear of it? Talk about a group of whiners that think they deserve special treatment. To answer your question sjacobs, NO your rights are NOT infringed on. If you don't like the LABOR LAWS here and you want to run your business like a religious fanatic, Pakistan is a great place. Feel free.
I, like all pragmatic libertarians, am intimately familiar with the Constitution. Article 1 covers the freedom of religion. Business is covered by labor laws, as they should be. My question is how/why is providing birth control for employees related to labor law? Why/how is it that an employee's rights get to supercede the rights of the employer? If an employer wants to cover birth control, fine, that should be their option. However, they should also have the option to not provide it.
Let's get away from the religious argument. Where does it stop? As an employer, government mandates matter to how many employees I keep or hire. This week government is requiring employers provide birth control. I have employees mad I don't cover lap band or bariatric surgery, mainly because it will raise the cost of insurance on all my employees. Are anyone's rights being violated by not covering this service?
As for the good folks at Chik-fil-A, they are welcome to their opinion. If they choose to vocalize, they run the risk of alienating some customers. As a customer, you have the right to vote with your wallet and not eat there.
If I as an employer choose not to provide free birth control or coverage for lap-band surgery, I am not denying you the opportunity to get it on your own. However, requiring me to pay for it for my employees is forcing me to do something I don't believe in.
You gotta love the priorities over there.
I hope this young girl makes it out of this without too much disability, because after all leave the children alone in all this crap. With that said, why is it such an international issue with a country that enables the beating to death of women who are raped with out the 4 witnesses, the head cutting of any one who speaks out agaisnt their god, or proffit.
Talk about special treatment,wow.
Yeah, this cowardly act will amount to no change in the muslim world. They are barbarians lead by a insanely zealous religion. Just like the article said- they care more about some stupid youtube video than they do about grown men gunning down a group of little girls who's biggest crime is wanting to learn. You cannot fix stupid.
You can fix stupid if you actually learn something before you start typing misinformation.
What you seemed to have left out is that everyone in a islamic nation that cared for and fought for this girls life, including Malala herself, are muslim.
You can't be a hypocrite if you don't know, now you know.
Yeah, sorry- just a vast majority are animals living in the stoneage. Thanks for clearing that up.
I thought water-boarding was a bad idea..til now !
With all the BILLIONS in tax payer $$ the U.S. sends Pakistan, They should have 3 or 4 specialty hospitals to care for their peeps....
ummm, we dont even take care of our own so why expect anything else. that money you speak of is called "hush" money.
