TEL AVIV, Israel - One might call it the Armageddon scenario: a massive and coordinated missile attack on Israel from many fronts.
As the rockets rain down, only the United States can save a nation from annihilation.
And they have been warning about it long enough. Now, at last, the direst predictions will be played out.
Now for the good news.
Almost all of this will take place within the safe confines of computerized simulation for three weeks starting next week.
Israeli police killed an American gunman who opened fire in a seaside hotel packed with tourists. NBC’s Martin Fletcher reports.
There is no war, merely the preparation for one, and the Middle East is a place where it pays off to be prepared.
Israeli-American Operation Austere Challenge will not be cheap. The biggest ever joint Israeli-American drill of its type to be conducted throughout Israel and off-shore by the two sides comes with a combined bill of close to $40 million.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. has pledged $30 million to the exercise and the Israelis estimated their exercise costs at 30 million shekels -- around $7.9 million.
Israelis are prepared – and not – for an Iran attack
The drill will involve some 3,500 U.S. personnel, with around 1,000 troops deployed in theater, along with a navy cruiser to serve as the control center, and Patriot missile defense batteries.
Together the two sides will find out if their command systems and computer codes are compatible.
Israeli Prime Minister Spokesman Mark Regev joins MSNBC to discuss Benjamin Netanyahu's recent address to the U.N. General Assembly.
But if much of the exercise will take place in the virtual world, there’s an all too real world backdrop, which is proving tricky for the military to maneuver around.
"This exercise is purely about improving combined U.S.-Israeli military capability,’’ U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Craig Franklin, told reporters this week.
Iran says it stopped Israeli cyber attack
"It is not related to any national elections nor any perceived tensions in the Middle East,’’ he added.
But, like it or not, this is a drill taking place in the heat of two general election campaigns and during what is surely only a lull in hostilities over Iran.
Austere Challenge has been delayed and scaled back since the height of Israeli saber-rattling had Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Cheifs of Staff, saying he did not want America to be seen as "complicit" in an Israeli attack.
Both sides have denied that changes to the drill are related to this very public disagreement, and last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushed back his deadline to halt Tehran’s nuclear program to next summer.
Still, it’s a conflict delayed, not averted.
Israeli forces strike Gaza targets after rocket salvo
In the meantime, Netanyahu has turned his attentions to fighting for re-election. He wants Iran and Israel’s security to figure as the big issues.
Austere Challenge allows him the chance to re-assure worried voters he’s back on side with their most important ally.
Of course, that’s not a bad message for President Barack Obama to be sending out too, with his own electoral destiny rather closer to hand, and facing Mitt Romney’s charge of "throwing Israel under the bus.’’
Romney: US has 'solemn duty' to prevent Iranian threat to Israel
In military terms, the generals told NBC News this week they will count Austere Challenge a success if they manage to stop any simulated missiles striking Israeli soil.
Political leaders on both sides are hoping for a similar level of protection from their rivals’ rhetorical rockets.

This is more than a waste of the US tax payers money. The US military should not get involved with the Israelis for any reason. If they want to start a war then it is their problem, not ours.
^ Agrees fully with GTR5 - US needs to stay out of this and take care of its own.
When your entire economy is bound up with the stability of a global economic system where even small changes - nevermind full scale open combat - in one region can have drastic consequences for the world as a whole its kind of hard to pretend as if these things don't impact us. If you've read the news at all in the last year or so you'd notice that even some dirtball country like Greece can mess things up for everyone.
One can, indeed, ask serious questions about how to deal with Iran/Isreal, but anyone towing an isolationist line - as if problems will just go away if they are ignored for long enough - instantaneously loses all credibility. 800 years ago this might have been a realistic option. Now, not so much...
just in time for the election.
GO Odumbo GO!!!!
Travis from Soviet Occupied New England : After living in Aassachusetts for 20 yrs, how living in the Fl keys, I feel your pain.
You reap what you sow. Mind your own bussiness. Let Isreal do what it wants by itself. The only problem is they can't even beat the Hesbala.
The United States of Israel is one country. Israel is the brains and the United States is the brawns. The USI will go to war with Iran and you can bank on that. No worldwide "peaceful protest" will do anything to stop it just like it did not stop the Iraq war. The US is no longer a sovereign nation since it has been taken over by Israel.
Right now they are just waiting on the sanctions to weaken Iran before an all-out assault from all fronts. It's the calm before the storm, and whether you vote for Obama or Romney, it is going down.
Any country that desires its self-determination is vilified by the press which Israel dominates (Venezuela, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Libya). Any country that bows to Israel, dictatorship or not, joins their country club.
"So likewise, a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils. Sympathy for the favorite nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter without adequate inducement or justification. It leads also to concessions to the favorite nation of privileges denied to others which is apt doubly to injure the nation making the concessions; by unnecessarily parting with what ought to have been retained, and by exciting jealousy, ill-will, and a disposition to retaliate, in the parties from whom equal privileges are withheld. And it gives to ambitious, corrupted, or deluded citizens (who devote themselves to the favorite nation), facility to betray or sacrifice the interests of their own country, without odium, sometimes even with popularity; gilding, with the appearances of a virtuous sense of obligation, a commendable deference for public opinion, or a laudable zeal for public good, the base or foolish compliances of ambition, corruption, or infatuation."
- George Washington
Do you complainers even know their end game........you think it will stop after Israel......do you know anything about sharia law and what it will change if it gains any more traction than it already has......how if they eliminate America they can conquer every Islamic republic till they control all the oil and you complain about $5.00 gas....wait till you find out how many other things are produced with oil......the facts are out there....history tells the tail....but I bet you think Americans can do it different and if I include the Bible into this statement you'll know how bad it's really going to get.
Those darn Israeli's, always one step ahead of their enemies.
Shows how ignorant you are....God handles that, not you. Are you a fool? Do you know know how Israel has standed this long??? Surrounded by terror on every side. It's because of God. If America did not aid Israel, you would see the end of your pitiful life.
Also, do you not remember the twin towers falling, this is not an Israel war you fool, it's a war against terror.
I am American. But what most of you fools dont even know is WallStreet, your Government, Senators and the wealthy went to war against you and your life savings....In other words, cut you to the stake(murder).
Your worried about tax dollars and Israel when the common American wont even stand up to who ripped them off..
So, let's placate the masses with pretend war. Obama can say he supports Israel, Netanyahu can pretend that Obama has his back and the public will heave a collective sigh of relief....not.
Keep it up you dickheadas. Just dying to start WW3 arn't you.
2 expensives wars fought and almost over, nothing changed there muslinms are still in charge. And now coming home to a bankrupt country you want to start an other one. DUH!!!!
Remember Israel will fight until the last American comes home in a body bag.
Last successful war the US fought was in Granada.
Draft coming up? Surely not Mitt's 5 boys they will get exemptions
Remember the war you fought for Kuwait?
The Americans fought a good scrap. Only problem was that all the rich Kuweities had a jolly good time in Europe and the US while you did there dirty work.
Haven't you learned anything?
40 millions is a small price tag compared to other war costs we are incurring on a yearly basis. Israel is surrounded by Arab countries and that can't feel good for Israel when some of them see (again) the final solution as the solution.
What worries me most is that one time we were having military exercises over the East Coast and planes crashed in some big towers in NY. I hope it doesn't get real out of pretending.
As long as Obama is not casually reading books to kindergartners it should be OK.
The USA can stay out of it but the fact is why?
In case some of you still don't realize it. America's unwavering support for Israel and shielding it from international law and sanctions led directly to the 9/11 2001 attacks. And all we get from Israel is grief.
Ed - If bin laden was alive he would have told you that he said back in 2001 that his reason was because inifel (US) forces were on aholy ground (Saudi Arabia). Tell your theory to alzawahiri. he will welcome you.
9/11 was war coming at us enough, unfortunately.

Gave up on looking at replies, no offense guys, but everybody is talking smack and I really don't deal with BS that well, doesn't really matter. The only thing now that is happening is Obama is trying to say we stand by Israel, even if it costs 30 million dollars. Sorry I think at one point Obama was "too busy" to see the PM of Israel or anyone from Israel for that matter. Guess he's trying to make up for all the time he was campaigning, what's next, he was to busy campaigning to even bother with our Ambassador's death. Last time I checked, the last time an Ambassador was killed was in 1979. Gee, who was the President, oh yeah Jimmy Carter. With Obama it's too little, too late. Just ask the guys that kept wanting for a surge, and gee whiz, how long did that take and at what cost, how many died waiting for help. And he thinks throwing 30 million dollars at a war game will save his a--. Please, give me a break.
It's not the same world anymore as some have pointed out. So we can't just look the other way as if it won't effect us. At the same time great thought needs to be given in one approch to this. In the hay day of the US and Russia going it was understood. We would end up killing us all and the power play had a bad ending for all. Don't get me wrong they was a few close calls in those times. But when the thought process changes to it is ones duty to be a martor for the cause all beats are off. It can cause people to run in with fervor because living is not the great reward but dieing for ones cause is. With some people not hiding the fact that they would like certain people wipe off the map. What makes you think when the chance is given they won't pull the trigger remmeber the reward isn't in the living but in being a martor for the cause. That can be a powerful mind set that can cause rational people to do unrational things.
If one doesn't respect you then one has to fear you, It is just the way it is with certain things.
We have done things to p@ss off parts of the middle east forsure, But also remmeber the wars between tribes have gone on for 1000's of yr's. The big difference is now the world is smaller and tech has advanced to the point. That Wars effect everyone in a blink of a eye So until the race of man gets over its self and stops killing one another. Over power, resources and in the name of our gods we will always have this problem. It would be nice if we learned this before we end up wiping ourselves of the face of the earth, but until that day one has to be prepared.
Speak softly but carry a big stick rule still appies being understanding is good. But what do you do when you understand one doesn't what to peacefully live with you but rule you? Or just wipe you off the face of this earth?
Why does God need human armies to defend Israel? Why does God need humans to do anything on his behalf, for that matter? I think it disgraceful that so many self-proclaimed Christians cling so desperately to this chimera to justify wars.
"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." (Matthew 5:9)
The US government knows Bible prophecy, but what they don't seem to get is that they are part of it and cannot prevent it. GOD rules the Kingdoms of Men. King Neb found this out the hard way Daniel 4:25

rightwingscrewball, liberal college chick is right.
If Israel truly is God's chosen nation, then they do not need our help. To say they do, is to limit God. God will protect them with or without us. God never told us its our duty to protect Israel. In fact, Romans 9-11 talks about how Israel is something completely different than the current nation we know of today. Israel is the invisible nation of believers in Christ.
And don't throw liberal rants at me. I am a conservative Christian.
Since Israel was formed by Europeans annexing the land and killing the Arabs there in 1948, the state hasn't been welcomed by any of the neighbors in the region. Whether or not Jewish have a claim to live in that area can be an endless argument, both Arabs and Jewish have inhabited the region for thousands of years and Israel believes Jewish have a right to that sacred land, same as the Arabs believe they have a right to that sacred land. We should never forget the past, but we also have to be a realist and look at the future. If Israel stays there it will never find peace, it will always be in war or on the verge of war. I say that the U.S. cuts its loses, estimates its cost of security and defense of Israel over the next 5 years and then spreads that cost as payments to Israeli families willing to relocate to another country or maybe help pay for relocating the country Israel to another location. It would be a hard pill to swallow, and realistically it would probably never happen but there is no denying that the only certainties for Israel's future is major spending on security by them and the U.S. and war.
I knew it wouldn't be long before the occupants of the idiot-sphere came on and blamed the Israelis for the conflict. You people are the dumbest bunch of rocks in the universe. The best way to guarantee war in the Middle East is for the current occupant of the White House to continue his policy of "fairness" for the Muslim world. You've noticed, I'm sure, how much credit the U.S. has gotten in Arab capitals for Mr. Obama's policies. It's worked out very well. And now some cretin wants to just tell all of the Israelis they have to move.
"OK, Moshe, here's a check for $8,000. That should pay for airfare to Madagascar for you and the missus and your kids. Such a deal; see ya! Write if you get work."
Brilliant.
You misunderstood my point completely Mike, I'm making the point that it isn't Israel's fault, but there is no denying what their future is going to become so they should do something about it now instead of instead of waiting for the inevitable. Unless you are one of those that believe the better option for doing something now is nuking the entire Middle-East except Israel. If I was surrounded by government militaries and terrorist fighters that outnumbered my country's entire population by far and openly state they want to wage war on me, I would be an idiot to stay.
there's enough sand for everybody over there... wha'ts the big deal?
Hey Mike. Go kiss a jewish wennie.
Mike is a Jewish Wennie!!
Mary and rule - How disgusting. Any class on public forum?
Mary Jones is no lady.
Mary and nines need to declare jihad on their ESL teacher.
Mary and Nines need to head off for their prayer rugs.
It seems like they are "stretching"and warming up before the "Big race".Its not "if" Israel attacks...its when. Its gonna be an all-out ww3 if Iran protects itself.I just hope nukes dont get involved in any of it.
They've been stretching for a while now, in 2003 and again a few months ago groups of high ranking Israeli Military pilots resigned because they were refusing to strike Iran and they didn't want to be responsible for bringing war to Israel. Why would they resign for that reason unless they were being asked to strike Iran?
Also forgot to add that Israel is conducting early elections this year, analysts claim that the move shows Isreal wants to get elections out of the way before they strike Iran.
Yep you're right, and Israel has also had military pilots and special forces refuse to carry out missions targetting civilians in the Gaza Strip. I believe the incidents are referred to as the Pilot's Letter and the Commander's Letter when they refused to attack the Gaza Strip civilians.
What a wonderful display of democracy. They could not have done that in a muslim country without being beheaded, could they?
oh Hell no Farideh. You can't even refuse to be a whore without being beheaded. The oldest profession in the world should be a voluntary vocational calling and not an obligation.
I'm so elated to know that there are some very intelligent people out that see thru the bull@!$%# coming out of Israel. 9/11 happen because of U.S. support for Israel. What in the hell does Israel do for the U.S. ? Check this out the people in Israel claiming to be Jews are not Jews. Benjiman Netanyaho is not a Jew. People check out you history. We allow americans to be killed to save the fake Jews what kind of @!$%# is that! Americans should be outragaed.
Farideh, which part is the wonderful display of democracy? The military ordering it's pilots and special operations units to attack civilians or not killing them when they refuse to?
@AbdallahAbdallah: Actually, I'd think the Israli pilots should be rather optimistic. No Arab pilot has shot an Israeli plane in combat in 40 years. They'd lost a grand total of 18 before then, while slaughtering 817 Arabs "pilots".
These days, the Israelis have 100 F-15s, 200 F-16s, and will get 20 to 75 F-35s.
The Iranians, meanwhile are nursing jets that are mostly over 33 years old... including what the Iraqi Airforce fled there with in 1991. So they *might* be able to field a dozen or so cobbled together F-14s and maybe 100-200 F-4s & F-5s that belong in museums. These will basically be target practice.
Their 24 F-1s and about 100 MiG-29s, however, will require a little more care to deal with.
My take? If the US does not have an aircraft carrier in the region, an air war with Iran might last up to a whole week.
As for landing, it's not like the Israelis don't have a dozen C-130 tankers. I also wouldn't be surprised if they got clearance to land in Turkey or even Qatar.
@Abdalla Abdalla: Really? I'm surprised. A bunch of old HAWK & half a dozen S-200 installations? Even when they were relatively new in 1986 the S-200 proved to be useless in Libya against the prior two generations of US jets (A-6, F-18s & F-111s). It's main adversary (high flying U2 recon planes) aren't used much anymore.
The half dozen Chinese Hq-2s are unlikely to be much of a challenge, either... given their just Chinese copies a Soviet system from 1957.
I'll grant that the Tor mobile launchers would be something to consider, but as to how many the Iranians have working is pretty questionable. Even if all 30 are up by some miracle, that's not much for a country the size of Alaska. And concentrating them on the Gulf would just allow them to be picked off by the US Navy.
Personally I think that the Iranian air defense network today is in worse shape than the Iraqi one was during the 1981 raids by Iran & Israel. It's antiquated, it's poorly supplied and it hasn't seen combat in nearly 25 years.
Once again the Obama Administration proves that the United States stands with Israel in the Middle East.
Obama/Biden 2012
funny humor
There is no solution to the problems in the Middle East because the participants don't want one; they enjoy fighting over their centuries-old religious and tribal differences too much. The US should destroy Iran's nuclea labs & equipment with bunker-busting bombs, and then get the hell out of the area.
Romney is the one advocating with Israel for war with Iran he knows who will give him money
A war fighting for Isreal by the US will be just like Vietnam the US troops will not be supported by 3/4 of the
American public. Because the people have been fighting this same crappy war for 1000's of years. They can't or don't want to resolve their issues, so what could make the US thing they can solve their issue hell the US of A can't figure out there own problems.
If you want to know why the US will go to war on Israel's behalf despite no support, just read George Washington's Farewell Address on how foreign influence can hijack a country. Here is an excerpt:
"Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government."
"The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible."
"Excessive partiality for one foreign nation and excessive dislike of another cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests."
"Harmony, liberal intercourse with all nations, are recommended by policy, humanity, and interest."
None of that sounds like the US. How far we strayed from the course.
If the US become involved in this war there will be targets they deem necessary to destroy from the spying they have done on the nuclear plants
Wrong. The volunteer army with go in and pummel them to the ground, day and night, with no trees in the way. We love open theaters.
and yes Rocky, those will go along with all the bridges, power plants, comm center, ammo depot, air base runways. etc....pummel. Pockets of resistance will get the 500's then the internal resistance will take over for the detail cleanup, sparing many US soldiers lives. And then the world can move on from this twaddle. Meanwhile North Korea's porky will be squeezing his buns. After we deal with heads of state delinquency maybe we can take care of getting prosperous again, worldwide.
@Delos: I hope so! The US won every battle in Viet Nam. Saigon only fell after Congress voted to not fund ARVN (South Viet Nam's army).
I believe it's an election ploy for Obama for reelection. Obama if your listening tell that nuttyahoo to go straight to hell and make the american people and the jewish people HAPPY!!.
I hope it is just an election ploy. We should disolve our "special relationship" with those Zionist turds in Israel and let them fend for themselves. They made their own enemies by themselves and they alone should bear the consequences.
The entire country od Israel is not worth the spending of one American dollar. There is abundant proof Israel was complicit in the 9/11 attacks. If anything, we should be seeking revenge, not helping them.
Iranian Ralph - You and Andallah have repeatedly shown your biased side with despicable remarks that show, not just commenting on an issue, but deep hatred of Israel and Jews. Youi have no credibility.
There are other articles today, 3 of them about muslim atrocities and terror. Go there and post your hateful remarks about their inhumanity. I have not seen you there.
farideh, because Ralph doesn't agree with you, you say he hates Jews? You are absurd, but it's also common with you Israelis. Ralph is right on about 9-11, Mossad agents taking pictures of the planes going into the twin towers, the same security company at the WTC and Logan airport was an Israeli company. Owner of the WTC named Silverstien (Jewish) who took out terrorist insurance a couple of months before it happened. These are all questions that need to be answered. How did the owner of the Mossad front, Urban Moving get back to Israel so fast when all air traffic was shut down. If we find out the truth the whole US will hate Israel and the Jews.
parkerjoe - It was not palestinian who killed Robert Kennedy right? It was a conspiracy also. You are all so pathetic.
abdullah abdullah - Israel is the reason there is trouble in the ME? Did you read (can you read) the news today whay Iranian backed hezbollah did in Lebanon? go ahead, tell me Israel blew up the car bomb. spin it. You said you vote for B. All muslims do.
Abdallah, Parker, Ralph H: I still haven't seen one posting from you Muslim turds condemning the shooting of the Pakistani girl, the bombing in Beirut, and the beheading of the woman in Afghanistan because she refused to become a prostitute. Only when the story is about Israel and the Jews do you emerge from your rat holes and promulgate your conspiratorial and false information. You are a bunch of hateful hypocrites, incapable of a balanced viewpoint. Reasonable people have already discredited you.
Abdallah: I vote for Option C: We will place you in a padded room and withhold all antipsychotic medication, which has not benefited you at all. You will then decompensate and become totally delusional, believing you are Ahmadinejad. Then we'll ship you off to Teheran (unless you are already there) where you will have the freedom to post your irrational viewpoints.
Ralph and Abd. The truth hurts. Thank you for the facts. Well said.
Sam I'm with you . Thank's Ralph and Adb. and Parker Joe. The truth does hurt.
Juliet romeo:
I still haven't seen one posting from you zionist turds condemning the shooting of pregnant Palestinian women, bombing civilian targets with white phosphorous cells and the continual exansion of illegal settlements. Only when the story is about israel's belicose do you emerge from your rat holes and coming to its defense. You are incapable of a balanced viewpoint. Reasonable people have already discredited you.
birdsview101 you need to fly higher. This thing has been long time coming and a war game is not a war. An election ploy would be to let the conflict explode. America doesn't usually change president in the middle of a war( ask Dubya 2003-2004)
henrich - when that story come out I will be the first to condemn it. It is possible it was out 40 years ago or so?

We " USA" Should of nuked all muslim states 2 days after 9/11 then asked if anybody else wanted to f with us. That would of ended all this BS. BTW Nobody could of stopped us or retaliated agains at that time. The only way to stop war is to make war unthinkable.
War Mongers Warmongering.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE loan Israel some of our mothballed F-117s, a VERY BIG 'OK' ??? (a baker's dozen will do.) - RC
the billions of US dollars we give isreal and the jew pigs can't fight their own war? i suppose we have to payout the 40 million just for the privilage of getting together to beat up on iran? POOR JEW PIGS...does it REALLY matter if iran gets the bomb? who cares? pakistan, india, china, US, russia, isreal, PLUS MORE!...all have the BOMB. if obama is dumb enough to listen "nitwitandyahoo"... a worthless " piece of JEW PIG in his own right...GOD HELP US. the jew pigs want THE USA TO FIGHT IRAN WHILE THEY SIT ON THE SIDELINE... i hope obama is smart enough to get the jews to pay for the war...like how about 500 billion USA dollars up front. i don't mind going to war as long as the jews PAY FOR THE DAMN THING UP FRONT...IN ADVANCE...and pay our troops more money.
Well my little Hitler wanna be. Israel does not need anyone to fight for them. They have taken on much larger armies and have won. They are God's chosen and protected by St. Michael. How come in 1967 Egyptian tanks that out numbered the 1 Israel tank waved the white flag and surrendered to the Israel tank commander. The reason, when the Egyptians where about to fight God put before them the illusion that the Egyptians where out numbered. This is what the Egyptian commander said, when he ask, where are all the other tanks?
The Russian, Iranians, and Syrians will go against Israel. The invasion from the north. Israel will lose in the beginning but in the end the remnant of Israel will return and defeat the enemy with Christ as their leader.
Now I know a lot of Americans are turning away from God, Or pretend he doesn't exist. But that is how we will be judged, your with Him or against. Follow the devil or follow God.
sure CARL but that does not mean G-d isn't fair when the wickedness reach the maximum point is time to cut it off .
G-d may bless all the Jews who love peace and may He rebuke the war lover and greedy .
Now for the haters of the jews ; there are many honest and good people in israel as there are anywhere in the world. Are the politicians and the rich that make the war and good people pay the ultimate price.
Once again the Obama administration shores up the political fortunes of a right wing nutbag.
.......
.......
The reader's not sure whether I meant Netanyahu or Romney, are they? LOL.
We all thought it was reference to you...
We're broke, broke, broke, our military has been stretched thin fighting two wars in the Mideast and Afghanistan. We still have thousands of personnel in Iraq, even though our fighting there has supposedly ended and we are in a support role there. We hope to end our combat role in Afghanistan by 2015, but again, we'll maintain many thousands of troops there in a support role for many years after 2015. We are going to be stuck for who knows how long in Iraq and Afghanistan. The last thing on earth we need is to go to war with Iran.
May be we are not that broke, on a much smaller scale, if we could afford spending $75,000 on a TV commercial apoligizing to Pakistani muslim for Youtube video.
Wow, the nut jobs and racists have clearly come out of the wood work. They are the only Democratic society in the Middle East. How could we as a free nation turn our back on them? Forget the fact they are Jewish since there is so much hatred in the world. The are the size of RI surrounded by radical Islamists on almost all sides. Jordan is a friend but that could change, Egypt is changing. Lebanon is a mess and the UN at the border is about as effective as the UN here. Forget religion and see that a group of people who believe in the same ideals we hold dear have been in fighting for the last 60 years non-stop just to survive. Our money problems have nothing to do with them. That's our own fault for electing retards who care more about pet projects for their districts and obsolete unions. Its amazing how liberals what to hand out welfare to people in this country who constantly take advantage of the system. Yet refuse to stand up for people who have turned a desert into farms, cities, and have provided several advances to the human race in the form of medicine and technology to name a few. Bring on the hate but woe be the day this great country turns its back on a nation that truly wants to live and contribute positively to the world. Iran wants the bomb, they working on building one. Anyone who believes otherwise is just plain silly. Do we want a group of backward individuals possessing a nuke? I'm not advocating war but something needs to be done however possible.
abdallah - apparently you are not capable of responding to an intelligent post. You must show your hateful muslim side in every one of your remarks.
JJB, all you paid shills think the same way, the rest of us don't. Don't ever forget the USS Liberty and the brave soldiers MURDERED by Israel. Don't forget The Lavon affair where Mossad agents dressed up like arabs in Egypt and killed Americans. Israel is not a democracy and only fights weak nations killing mostly women and children. They know this, and that is why they will not attack Iran unless the US leads the way. DISGUSTING.
parkerjoe - Whether you like to admit it or not, everything you say, along with other muslims here, are preached in deerborn at mosques by your mullahs. just spread the radical muslim view of falsehood.
Actually Parker you are extremely misinformed about the USS Liberty Incident. It is apparent that you have NEVER personally taken the time to research that incident, but instead mouth breathe the rhetoric like some mindless puppet. It is also pretty interesting that none of you have even bothered reading the History of Palestine, or you would know that in 320 BCE that area known as Israel to include parts of Syria, Jordan, Egypt were all part of Palestine. Likewise in 320 BCE Palestine was infact the Jewish/Hebrew ancestrial home. You would also know that genetically palestinians and jews are the same, sharing the same mitrochondial DNA. But you people are either too ignorant, too uneducated, or plain too consumed by your hate, to even bother to do a bit of research so as to have an intelligent position.
The funny thing is, the muslim faith has it's foundation on the hebrew bible. But there again, we sure as hell can't expect morons to come to an intelligent discussion armed with tangible facts. Only the uneducated rhetoric spit forth by the puny brained.
In the coming days, I will post a newsvine article just for you folks outlining the history of Palestine. And perhaps another detailing - complete with references from unbiased educational sources - about just how the Problems in the Middle East affect the global community. And trust me, I can assure you most of those problems don't revolve around oil...
Do you think that maybe Iran wants nuclear weapons because the terrorist state of Israel has had them for years? Is that not the same ploy that led to the buildup between the U.S.and Russia?
Interesting argument Wheels. If you infact look at the nuclear issue, ambitions and the lies used in that region, you would know and realize the "SAME" claims by Iran are in fact the same claims Israel and Iraq used in thier pursuit of nuclear weapon technology. The "solely for power production, solely for medical advancement" cover. I would disagree in calling Israel a terrorist state given the history of Israel from it's "official" recognition in 1948 to modern day. I would also suggest in a sense, the proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (especially during the cold war) was NOT the they have em, we need em, so much as the "politics" and vying for dominance rather than what is commonly accepted as the "deterrence" factor. I can point to the Soviet SS20 Missile System and our counter of Rail Garrison and the GLCM programs. As a matter of fact, I have 1st hand knowledge of billions of dollars spent building a GLCM base to show the Russians that we could build, secure, and bring operationally ready a nuclear weapons base in less than 12 months, not only the construction, but the placement, training and ready deployment of those weapon systems in a matter of MONTHS not years. It was this demonstration that was responsible for the mothballing of that Soviet SS20 missile system.
If we look at the "proxy" wars between Russia and the US, particularly Viet Nam, Korea, Afghanistan, the Balkans, and even today in Syria, it is more about influence than the threat of using them. Today, even a handful of nuclear weapons are a deterrent, as is chemical and biological weapons, which Iran has. And given the threats faced by Israel, on ALL of it's borders, one can certainly understand the need for that deterrence. But I think for sure, we can all agree, extremists should NEVER possess the weapons by which that extremism can be exploited and employed globally.
What do you think?
Today Iranian backed hezbollah placed a car bomb in a christian neighborhood in Beirut killing scores of innocent people. That atrocity is backed by Syria and Iran. I don't see how can anyone look at that slaughter and not see the radical muslim ayatollahs in Iran deserving any defense by any poster her, unless the comments are made by a muslim or a sympathizer or a radical leftist.
Israel, whether the muslim/liberal alliance like it or not, is the only democracy in the region. It is in our strategic advantage to be an ally with them, otherwise who do you think is an ally with us in that region? Syria? Iraq? Iran? Afghnistan? Pakistan?... try one. It is good to let the hatred go and be realistic.
Being a democracy means s**T. Look at the U.S! It illegally killed millions of Vietnamese and Iraqis.
irwin, I agree with your comment on our debacle in Vietnam and Iraq. They were biggest mistakes US have made. But did you also look at what China, Japan and N. Korea have done? or Cambodia? or Iraq attacking Iran leaving millions dead? let alone Chad, Rowanda in Africa. Not all are democracy, if that is what you think is the problem.
Farideh: As I noted in my comment above, you'll never see a posting by Abdallah, Ralph, and Parker condemning Muslim atrocities against their own people or other faiths. The reason they pick on the Jews and Israel is because they have to find someone to blame for their own psychopathic murderous behavior. Hey Abdallah, Ralph, and Parker, it's not easy being cheesy.
Oh no more spending money - fiscal restraint - no money for health care, the spending has to stop - well except the 100 billion to go to war with Iran. I love Teabagger hypocrisy !! Oh lets not forget the Mormon paln to domonate the world - ya this one not Koronos or where ever it is they come from. ( talk about aliens) these are the real deal!
red star - what does mormon religion have to do with this? all communists hate people for their religion, which is fine, just keep it to yourself.
I say shoot both the president and the ayatolah in the legs and their wheenie so they can no longer have goverment funcionality, let the iranian people go to elections again hoping they elect someone who could have better relations with the west and stop that nuke nonsense, again, a couple of shots will make a world of diference. No war, nobody dies, no trillion dollar war (borrowed from China), more money to the middle class and Obama as president. Everyone wins. I am sure the CIA and MOSSAD could pull this off.
What are you, yours truly, one of the haters and crazies. You are certainly a fool. When did you leave the Armed forces of the U.S. I'll bet never. What a looser. Tell meidiot, who got Bin Laden. Who is usiong Drones to get the Bad Guys and save our troopers lives? Certainly not somebody like you. Get a life chief!
As far as Armageddon goes, oh (cough cough) not yet. That requires some specifics that we haven't reached yet. Or have we?
As far as the occupation of Palestine goes, we here in the US should talk. We took land away from the Natives. Anyone living here besides them is occupying what used to be their land. And we don't have any history but the Israeli Jews do.
revisionist? or just following a popular muslim/liberal line?
Wow, such apparent treason by the Republican right, who are willing to condemn the Obama Administration for creating a military exercise in case of the worst possibility of an Armageddon, and a Romney administration that would go in with no prior planning! Which side are your righties on? Our side, with Obama at the helm, for preparing for America's sake? Or Romney's, for promising to raise our defense budget by two trillion and not explain why?
(*cough*) Maybe Romney believes that tossing enough money at a problem will always resolve all conflicts!
Obama in 2012!
This brings to mind the comment Rush Limbaugh made a couple of weeks ago. "If Obama gets behind in the polls, could we see Obama team-up with Israel on an attack on Iran?" He did not elaborate. We already know that Obama has jeopardized the security of our country in his attempt to get reelected with the ordeal in Benghazi.
Just saying.
Rush Limbaugh is a true idiot and you have to be either crazy or an idiot to listen to his bs.
If Iran does attack Israel the West Bank will be left with no place to hide. Any fallout from nuclear bombs will certainly land on the West Bank. Jordon will also be impacted causing them to halt or hopefully halt any weapons using its air space. With Syria in the turmoil its in right now I don't see how it could help Iran and I doubt the Syrians people will be to happy about helping Iran after Iran has been supplying the Syrian Government with weapons to kill its own people. If Turkey continues to be attacked by Syria they too will not be happy with Iran supplying their enemy with weapons. Russia and China will have to be convinced that Iran fired the first weapon and then they too will be on board, neither country wishes to get into a war with the United states. For this reason it might be a good reason to engage Iran. Hit them while they are weak. I wasn't going to make this a political statement but I feel President Obama would be more likely to engage the U.N. unlike President Bush did and therefore we wouldn't be alone again. This election maybe a complete game changer for us, it might mean we have allies or we have crossed our own red line. It's up to you to decide which you would prefer, more loss of American lives or a country that others continue to back us against Iran and therefore less loss of life?
I honestly don't think Iran will "attack" Israel in a conventional sense. I believe, if they are allowed to develope nuclear weapons, they will produce a small device and smuggle it into israel, The US or any country they want for that matter, to be placed by Hezbollah in crowded malls, stadiums, or street corners, etc, therefore Iran can claim no responsibility for it.
Israel, unlike Iran, Saudis, or other arab countries, is very small and the consequences can be disastrous. That is, I believe, the most likely scenario.
Consider the January 29, 2012 "Israel vs. Iran" article in the New York Times were it was noted that, "The Iranian regime will be several times more dangerous if it has a nuclear device in its hands...one that it could bring to the United States. It is not for nothing that it (i.e., Iran) is establishing bases for itself in Latin America and creating links with drug dealers on the US-Mexican border. This is happening in order to smuggle ordnance into the United States for the carrying out of terror attacks. Imagine this regime getting nuclear weapons to the US-Mexican border..."
Israel does not need the US to crush Iran with its conventional weapons. Israel had beaten the combined Arab armies (Egypt, Syria, Jordan and volunteers (Russian/Cuba advisers...)). Israel only needs US supports (logistics and US veto power to prevent the UN sanctions)! Only Russia's ICBMs can threaten Israel, but I doubt that Russia will do that to protect Iran and risk a confrontation with the US.
The United States of Israel must stop sending American Taxpayer's hard earned money to the Zionist & Apartheid country called Israel so that more innocent lives can be snuffed out.
No more Two-State solution to the Palestinian & Israeli problem, One-State for all people, with the Right of Return for All Palestinians, including All of their Descendants, with Equal Rights for All people, and the Right to Any Candidate.
No more Military and Foriegn aide to Israel, and NO more U.S military secrets and elite military equipment to Israel so that no more innocent Arabs and Americans, including U.S. soldiers, will be killed due to the actions of the Zionists.
Your text is directly, almost verbatim, from mullahs preaching in mosques to their radical muslim followers. A similar one has been posted earlier by another radical muslim.
By the way, did you read, just today, about the LBeirut car bombing, status of girl @!$%# in the head, woman beheaded because she refused to become a prostitute, status of wann-be terrorist in NYC, all of whom are muslims?
@ AP-1097554
The Arabs in Gaza need their own Islamic State of Palestine so they can continue to practice their shariah ways, they don't want to live under a democratic government like Israel.
Right on AP. Sad to see so many ignorant readers uneducated about the situation. The truth will hurt them and tehy will call you names, it is normal behavior for the clueless...
America will stand up for Israel always and that is how it shall and will be. It has been like that from the beginning and will be that way till the end.
This is a military drill and nothing else. The comments here are amusing. From Russia attacking Israel with atomic weapons to the leveling of the Middle East and Israel left standing. LMAO! Relax people, this is standard procedure between allies. There is no declaration of war or intent to attack yet.
Why can Israel not be integrated with an Arab family in one home next door to a Jewish home wouln't that stop alot of the rocket attacks on Isarel. This could be a 1st step toward some type of peace plan.
kidding, right???
just for one example, if you'll recall the Gulf War, Saddam sent scuds into Israel and some of these went into arab areas. the arabs cheered.
there are many arabs living in Israel.
http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/keyword/scud-missiles
Living next to an arab home will not stop rocket attacks. See Syria attacking arabs.
Shouldn't that figure be the other way around?!? . . . I mean, who's protecting who?
Yes we must keep the sabre rattling going as the government was directed to do by the council on foreign relations.
Oh no here we go again. Warmongers at work. It is time to let israel sink or swim especially that they are always the oppresors, and all those who are so keen on protecting israhell, send your own money and kids to fight for them, not ours...
Excuse me maybe you forget the words of the Iranian leader calling for the destruction of Israel. They have a reason to be concerned about their safety when you have some idiot like Ahmadinejad talking and trying to produce nuclear capabilities. Ahmadinejad: Israel must be wiped off the map. They have a right to protect their people.
