Mystery of Russian ship missing with 700 tons of gold ore

MOSCOW -- A vessel with a nine-person crew and 700 tons of gold ore onboard went missing in stormy seas off Russia's Pacific Coast.

The ship sent a distress call on Sunday as it was sailing from the coastal town of Neran to Feklistov Island in the Sea of Okhotsk, The Associated Press reported.

The vessel, hired by mining company Polymetal, was carrying 700 tons of gold ore from one deposit to another where it was to be processed. Gold ore is the material from which gold is extracted and contains only a small percentage of the precious metal.

Polymetal's spokesman on Monday would not estimate the value of the cargo.

The company said it has shipped ore via that route before, and there was nothing unusual in shipping it by the sea, AP said.

My guess is that the captain of the ship wanted as much money as possible and overloaded the ship by a few tons, then they ran into a storm, took on water and sunk. Or space aliens beamed the ship to another planet.

The reason for this article is that most people see only SHIP WITH 700 TONS OF GOLD!!!! They miss the "ore" part, which basically makes this dirt with a few ounces of hard-to-extract gold mixed in. Remember, the goal of a news site is not to report anything valuable or interesting, but only to attract the maximum number of eyeballs glazing over paid ads.

"Gold is where you find it", besides the ship isn't missing. It's still there. We just don't know where there is yet.

Somewhere in a galaxy far far away a Jon Travolta alien look alike is paying back the Psychlos survivors in gold ore for exploding their home planet.

Goldfinger took control of that ship. Need James Bond on the case! By the way, a number of people are speculating as to the value of the ore. Value could range from zero (going to lease a ship for zero?) up to a much higher percentage of gold in the ore and then that would mean millions, no billions in gold! Then again it could be a scam. We may never know the true story so we need 007 to get us the answer.

Even at 4 oz of gold per ton , (which is half the amount per ton at a mine in Nevada that I worked at), and at $1700 per oz it's worth$9.52 million. So, double that if it's as rich an ore as Nevada

The $9.52 mil is at 8 oz/ton I forgot to divide.

The 700 tons of gold ore was just a cover. Underneath all the dirt was the real gold, 70 tons of marijuana.

If you smelt gold ore in oil doesn't it turn to metal after uranium is extracted? Maybe they do that on Mars when the gold gets there. Better scan the area for UFOs. The invaders are buying power from Vaal again. The Deep Underground Lab in South Dakota could use it, to plug leaks. But I suspect a volcano has erupted under the ship. If the Queen Anne's Revenge shows up, she'll miniaturize the ship for her bottle collection. In the name of the Treasure of the Sierra Madres, they "don't have to show you no stinking badges."
