GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands -- Organizers of an investment conference in the Cayman Islands have been forbidden from disclosing any details about a speech by former President George W. Bush in the offshore financial haven, an event spokesman said Thursday.
The keynote speech by the former president was "totally closed to all journalists," and conference organizers were banned from discussing any aspect of it even in general terms, spokesman Dan Kneipp said.
"We've got a complete blackout on discussing the Bush details," Kneipp told The Associated Press.
In an exclusive interview with NBC's Matt Lauer, the former President George W. Bush spoke frankly about alcohol abuse and his decision to quit drinking.
The restrictions were imposed by the former president's staff, he said. Bush was scheduled to speak Thursday evening at The Ritz-Carlton on Grand Cayman Island.
"It's totally their decision," Kneipp said of the decision to close the event to the media.
According to the Cayman Alternative Investment Summit website, Bush was to "offer his thoughts on eight years in the Oval Office, the challenges facing our nation in the 21st century, the power of freedom, and the role of faith."
Members of the Bush family, including George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, are featured in a video presentation at the Republican National Convention.
Sponsors of the conference include KPMG, a company that provides tax advisory services, and Deutsche Bank. It costs $4,000 to attend and other speakers include billionaire Richard Branson.

Cayman Islands officials are proud of the British territory's role as an offshore finance center. But members of the U.S. Congress and advocates for changes in tax laws have accused corporations and wealthy individuals of using so-called financial havens to improperly avoid taxes.

First, "scholl board" meetings may be private, but I am unaware of any school boards that get to negotiate without public knowledge. Second if you think teachers get "phat" pay increases, you are living in a parallel universe.

A tax haven is a state, country or territory where certain taxes are levied at a low rate or not at all.[1] Individuals and/or corporate entities can find it attractive to establish shell subsidiaries or move themselves to areas with reduced or nil taxation levels. This creates a situation of tax competition among governments. Different jurisdictions tend to be havens for different types of taxes, and for different categories of people and/or companies.[2] States that are sovereign or self-governing under international law have theoretically unlimited powers to enact tax laws affecting their territories, unless limited by previous international treaties.
There are several definitions of tax havens. The Economist has tentatively adopted the description by Geoffrey Colin Powell (former economic adviser to Jersey): "What ... identifies an area as a tax haven is the existence of a composite tax structure established deliberately to take advantage of, and exploit, a worldwide demand for opportunities to engage in tax avoidance." The Economist points out that this definition would still exclude a number of jurisdictions traditionally thought of as tax havens.[3] Similarly, others have suggested that any country which modifies its tax laws to attract foreign capital could be considered a tax haven.[4]
According to other definitions,[5] the central feature of a haven is that its laws and other measures can be used to evade or avoid the tax laws or regulations of other jurisdictions. In its December 2008 report on the use of tax havens by American corporations,[6] the U.S. Government Accountability Office was unable to find a satisfactory definition of a tax haven but regarded the following characteristics as indicative of it:

Fair is fair,I voted for Bush the second term. Only because he admitted he made some mistakes and he wanted to clean it up. I know he did not have help from his VP. So he was on his own. I also know that a lot did not get cleaned up and Obama had to do that. So give credit where credit is due. Knowing we had a largeclean up. I also know President Obama could not do it in four years. It take longer. I know Romney can not do it because of what he wants to do. We can not go backwards. Republicans put in place to make the President a bad person. Its like we mean nothing to them. They want him to go down as being a bad person. they also know if he gets four more years, things will be different and better for Americans. The Mayor of L.A wants to hand out Photo IDs to all 4.3 million so they can have access to banks, schools, libraries.. The Police Chief states they will NOT follow Federal Law and turn over an illegal alien to ICE when an arrest is made and it is determined by checks (done on all arrested). The Governor says taxes MUST be raised for the schools, demands they be raised yet stumps for a $64 billion High Speed rail he and his cronies want built between LA and the central valley because they received $3 billion from Obama for "clean" energy. Somehow they have no money for schools, police, health-care, but they have $61 billion lying around to build a high speed rail to no where, and the money to support 4.3 million illegal aliens. I suppose you would consider that a typical Democrat success story...

When I grew up I must honestly say I got very lucky if you consider not being shot at or imprisoned as a pow lucky. They ended the Vietnam war just as I had graduated from HS and taken my physical for the draft. My father and brother both served, my father was in WWII and brother in Nam, and what I can say is I appreciate anyone who served this country, I appreciated what my father and brother did for this country. Do I wish I had gone, no. Would I have gone, yes. Are all these wars right, I have no idea because I do not have the intelligence data the folks in DC have. But to call out a war hero who did what his country asked of him to me is disgusting. Maybe McCain has a ell of a lot more intelligence data to make the calls he made. But he sure has the resume as a man to listen to.
