Subscribe to RSSBENGHAZI, Libya - A car bomb exploded on Sunday in front of a police station in Benghazi, injuring three police officers in the latest in a series of attacks on security officials in Libya's second largest city.
The front of the central Hadayeq police station was charred and blackened with smoke. The entrance to the station was completely damaged, with glass strewn on the street and firefighters putting out a damaged police car that was on fire.
A Reuters photographer saw three policemen receive first aid for small injuries in front of the station. Officials at the scene said there were no deaths.
The president pledges he will get to the bottom of the events that led to the death of a U.S. ambassador in Libya and calls Romney's criticisms of his actions following the attack "offensive."
A policeman who refused to be identified said the explosion went off when a homemade bomb was attached to the bottom of a parked police car in front of the station.
The Libyan government is struggling to control armed individuals and militias that gained power during an armed conflict that ousted Muammar Gaddafi last year. Benghazi was the birthplace of the revolt.
Benghazi has been hit by several bombings and attacks this year on international convoys and official buildings, the worst of which led to the death of the U.S. ambassador in September.
Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta says that the military responded quickly to events on the ground in Benghazi, but that the attack was over before the Pentagon really knew what was happening.
In early September, a Libyan intelligence officer was killed and another wounded when their car exploded as they stopped to buy cigarettes in a busy shopping district.

But he did not say “terrorism”—and it took the administration days to concede

They are indulging in rapings, lootings, killings and genocides of non-Muslims (Darfur, S. Sudan, Nigeria and spreading like wild fire in many regions and Muslims (Libya, Yemen, Mali, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and other places).
In Syria, if Assad is overthrown by Sunni Islamic religious Nazis like al-Qaida, MB, the conditions of Christians will be unbearable just like Iraq.
Pakis and Sunni Saudis and co are responsible for 80 percent of world problems including economic ones. Examine the devastations with Iraqi wars and now sanctions on Iranian oil and the resultant oil price manipulations.
They are making the lives of their own people also miserable by their Islamic religious madness to the intolerable levels.
So Sunni Muslims' killings ought to be Halal (slow but certain death!).

Benghazi is a very dangerous place- for the so-called government employees and especially for American Diplomatic personnel (remember US Ambassador J.Christopher Stevens and 3 other Americans being killed?). There are Al Qaeda affilialtes running militias under the names of Libyan Islamic Fighters Group ( now some of them in Syria via Turkey),Ansar asl-Shariah- Jama'al al Islamiaya et al. There are videos of the bombing of the police station (ca.news.yahoo.com/video/car-bomb-explodes-benghazi-police-130030394.html The rebel militias against today's government in Libya also surrounded the parliament building in Tripoli because they don't like the new g'ment. The terrorist militias are like wolf packs targeting diverse loci with their RPG's ,machine guns, automatic weapons and with their BLACK FLAGS (AQ-insignia that was also hoisted in US Consulate in Benghazi- but Obama adm. told everyone it is a religious sign )
Latest from Libya- now two rival militias (read between the lines sinced there are no more AQ according to the perhaps leading from bvehind crowd) battle each other- sedtting Tripoli's security headquarters on fire- looting shops in Zawiya Street which is strewn with goods and debris. Obama must LOVE this news. The sooner the sharia, the better.
In any of these Islamic sand pits when you remove the dictator you have anarchy. Iraq and Saddam, Syria and Assad, Egypt and Mubarak, the list goes on. These people have always had a tribal chief or dictator and without one they degenerate to tribal warfare and Islamic sect fighting over whose Muhammad is more correct.
The one positive thing about Libya though is that the tribal alliances are segregated along geographic lines - or at least they appear to be. It's not like Iraq where you have a dozen different rival alliances within the same city all fighting against each other. To be sure, the people in Libya hate each other, but there might be enough desert in between them to prevent a full blown civil war...
...but then again, the downside of a decentralized country is that there'll be no local forces imbeded in the Islamist regions to do our bidding and, despite some positive signs, Eastern Libya has been ground zero for jihadist activity for the last 7 or 8 years.
So who'll go in there and take care of business I don't know.

For what reason is the US keeping diplomatic staff in Libya in the first place? Let them get their house in order -- eliminate the terrorists the US financed to overthrow Qaddafi -- then form a viable government with some security capabilities before establishing any diplomatic relations. It's just another Arab country that hates the US to begin with.
Okay now didn't the attack on the US Embassy in Cairo happen before the Benghazi attack ..and the attacks that ensued the rest of the week through out the rest of the islamic world were in response and a flare up of the riots in Cairo or the coordinated attack on Benghazi ..

I don't really want to but i have reams of information on the previous administration's handling of intelligence and really ignoring warnings ..not only ignoring but the manipulating of those warnings.... I mean it took till a few weeks before 9/11 to pin the Cole Bombing on al queda... after Barbra Bodine the US ambassador of Yemen threw out Paul O'Neil and the FBI because she wouldn't allow them to carry long guns for protection after receiving several credible threats
And the sad Irony is bin laden hunter Paul O'Neil died in the WTC on 9/11..after he left the FBI in frustration and took on a position heading a security detail at the WTC just a few weeks before...killed by the very man he was trying to track down
British sources on the ground in Benghazi said they are extremely frustrated by the attack and are still wondering why they weren't called for help. “We have more people on the ground here than the Americans and I just don't know why we didn't get the call?" one said.
Both American and British sources said, at the very least, the security situation on the ground and the lack of proper response were the result of "complete incompetence." The covert team that came in from Tripoli was held up at the Benghazi airport for more than three hours by Libyan officials. Sources said the team notified officials in Washington that they were being delayed within 30 minutes of their arrival.
They also point out that these questions "don't even address the military capabilities of our United Nations ally Turkey, who (has) forces available a similarly short flight away." Fox News has learned that Turkey had a number of embassy staff in town the night of the attack and that the Turkish consul general met with Ambassador Stevens in Benghazi the night he and the three other Americans were killed.
One source asked, "Were the Turks not warned? What forces were available from our ally Turkey? Especially since they had officials there in Benghazi also and had to be concerned … and where was the U.N. in all of this?"
