It seems like Iran is intentionally trying to provoke something. First they fire on a US drone flying patrol over international waters in the gulf. Now they are firing rockets over the border into Afghanistan. I think I can take a pretty good guess why this is happening. The sanctions are really starting to hurt the people of Iran and there is growing unrest. I think that the leadership is trying to provoke some kind of attack so that they can take people's minds off their misery and getthem stirred up to fight "the great satan." So long as there is no fighting going on the people are free to think about other things lie how miserable they are under their current leadership. Their fear is that this feeling among the people could lead to a revolt against the leadership. To prevent this, they are trying to provoke a conflict to do two things. First to take people's minds off of their misery. Second, they will use the conflict to say that the sacrifices are necessary to protect the people against the "aggression of the great satan," since of course in the tghtly controlled media the story will be that the attack was unprovoked, not that it was in response to anything Iran's leadership did. Peope may think I am crazy, but I think this explains the recent incidents.

Before the election was drawing near the end there was articles about Iran daily. Also Iran shot down one of our drones about a year ago. They have also arrested Afghan citizens and destroyed Afghan vehicles that get too close to their border. Rhetoric is always Afghans saying they weren't inside Iran, and Iran saying "yes you were." It's nothing new, Iran articles were just put on the back burner near the end of the election and they had to do something to get back in the spotlight. Last time they lost the spotlight they released a statement and video saying "look were digging mass graves for American soldiers if they try to invade us." It's just attention grabbing and no real point to it besides political.

Actually I think Obama is probably more likely to do something than Romney since he has that second-term "mandate" if you will. Plus, the Democrats would've fanatically opposed anything even remotely perceived as confrontational with Iran if Romney were president. With Obama he can count on support from at least a majority of Democrats and quite a few Republicans I would imagine if it came to striking Iran.

At any rate, these things have a way of taking on a life of their own. Objective factors, not personality traits of individual leaders, are what dictate the course of history so I'm not certain its acurate to say, flat out, that the President would NEVER strike Iran. He's already been bombing quite a few countries since he took office. I don't see what would prevent him from bombing another.

Besides, its not in the nature of leftists to be isolationists. The prospect of "saving" another group of people and making them just like us is just too tempting a proposition to hold out for very long.

Granted, this would require a direct confrontation with radical Islam (which is such a shame since Islam is so wonderful), but keep in mind that leftists firmly believe that deep down inside of every Moslem there's an upper middle class white person just waiting to come out. But it was the President's own decision, he personaly, if figuratively, pulled the trigger, no one else had the authority to make this decision. Airlifting Supplies into Afghanistan is NOT an option, as after the President Clinton Cut to the Bone Reduction In Forces of the US Military, the USAF no longer has the "Cold War" Era Airlift capabilities. The majority of Supplies must come by Sea to the Ports of Pakistan, then container trucked to Afghanistan. The more expensive alternative is thru Tajikistan (currently a Taliban presence).

By reading the news reports, both about the drone, and now about these rockets, it seems to me that there is confusion about the territorial boundaries of Iran, that or they just don't bother with reading a map. I would tend to think that they want to increase their boarder boundaries, so they can make a claim that they are being invaded when they aren't. They probably want to conduct surveillance on territories which aren't theirs to look at.
