This file photo shows fire and smoke rising after shells exploded in the Syrian village of Bariqa, close to the ceasefire line between Israel and Syria, near Alonei Habashan on the Israeli occupied Golan Heights, Nov. 7, 2012.
JERUSALEM -- The Israeli military has fired a missile into Syria, the first time Israel has been drawn into the fighting in the neighboring country.
The military said it fired the missile as a warning shot on Sunday after a stray mortar from Syria hit a military post in the Golan Heights. Israel captured the Golan from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war and subsequently annexed it.
The military says no damage or injuries were reported inside Israel.
A string of mortar shells have struck the Golan during the Syrian civil war. Israel views the fire as accidental, but nonetheless has warned that it holds Syria responsible.
It came as Syrian opposition groups, meeting in the Qatari capital Doha, signed an initial agreement to form a new coalition of forces fighting to end the rule of President Bashar Assad.
"An initial deal has been signed. The evening session will be for electing the president of the body and his deputy," Ali Sadreddine al-Bayanouni, a Muslim Brotherhood delegate, told reporters in Doha.
The new body, made up of groups inside and outside Syria, would be called the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces, delegates said.
The group's leader, once chosen, will automatically become the focal point for opposition activities.
U.S. diplomats and officials from Qatar, which has bankrolled opposition to Assad and played a major role in Arab diplomacy against him, have prodded the players over the past week to come to an arrangement.
Thousands have fled violence in Syria in the last 24 hours, with many Syrian refugees now sheltering in Turkish camps. In his latest interview, Syrian President Assad says his army is trying to avoid civilian deaths. NBC's John Ray reports.
The parties were close to a deal in the early hours of Sunday after Qatari and United Arab Emirates officials pressed them to agree, but it appeared to fall through when the meeting broke up at 3 a.m.
The Syrian National Council (SNC), which has led overseas opposition activity over the past year, had lost the confidence of Washington and other powers who saw it as ineffective and riven with personal disputes.
The new plan involves a 55- or 60-member assembly alongside a military council including rebel groups such as the Free Syrian Army and a judicial council.
It will seek to obtain international recognition as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people and form a ten-member government-in-waiting, SNC member Wael Merza told Reuters.
At the talks in Doha bringing together various opposition groups, the SNC had been concerned at being sidelined in the wider body, a U.S.-backed proposal presented by prominent dissident Riad Seif.
As fighting rages in Syria with heavy air raids, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the U.S. would push for a major revamp in Syria's opposition leadership. NBC's Keith Miller reports.
A source inside the meeting said the SNC had asked to continue the talks on Sunday but that it would be a "last chance", suggesting that opposition figures behind the U.S.-backed initiative are threatening to go ahead without the SNC.
International backers of the opposition fear that rapidly changing events on the ground could lead to Assad's rule collapsing and jihadist militias seizing the initiative in a power vacuum if no opposition body abroad is in a position to step in immediately.
Anti-Assad protests erupted nearly 20 months ago, meeting a violent response which led to a conflict that has cost more than 38,000 lives and threatens to spill into neighboring countries

For once I agree with Israel on something.
for real. if syria bordered the US, the US would've owned it years ago.
I don't begrudge the Israelis ANYTHING. They are a smart, resourceful people. Israel has a right to exist. But we need to stay out of this. By that I mean COMPLETELY OUT of this. NO:
Foreign aid,
No fly zone
Ground troops
Special covert ops
Flacking off at the gums about "drawing a line" or "stop that, Mr. Assad" (are you listening, Obammy and BIllary???????)
and above all,
NO arming the Free Syrian Terrorists in ANY way shape or form (and that goes for FUNNELING weaponry via Saudia Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, et al.- you know, our other enemies over there) to these Islamofascisst lunatics.
PERIOD.
Let THEM duke it out over there. And pass the popcorn, please.
Man, you NAILED it. No one could have said it any better!
the middle east it's like...it's my candy corn...what part of my candy...do we not understand...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raa0T-gdA8I
wow the war machine has already started cranking, its clear our media loves war ....they have little to do these days but cry wolf...rally the masses, and write stories making us/our allies victims....good grief.
And as usual the headline was completely misleading. It said that Israel fired on Syria...without mentioning that Syria had first fired on Israel.
I'm not sure firing a warning shot in Syria constitutes entering the war. Let's wait to see if it escalates first.
It's good they're working on a power structure for after Assad is gone; nothing worse than rule by whoever has the most guns.
Civil war in Syria....our message should be....Isreal stand back you over bloated ego maniacs who think everything needs to be about you...or else you will make it so....go sit down and stop hiding behind my son while you piss everyone off.
how is a loaded missile a warning? a warning is, keep your %**%% civil war from effecting the region near the boarder of our dearly beloved Isreal....that's a warning
a missile, thousands of times larger than a morter, is not a message...its mass murder, got lucky this time..or so they say no one was murdered
@HOTTICKET- I would agree except if there is no foreign aid to Israel, then there should be no foreign aid to ANY muslim country. You cut it off to one, you cut it off to all.
ENGLAND is the root of all this mid-east conflict, israel is the stem, terrorism is the Bi-product, war is the poisoned fruit. And from it's seeds, only death can sprout.
When the victims of war and tyranny figure out that , violence is not an answer, Then the tyrant will fall of it's own weight and children will no longer live in fear.
Fletch-8675309,
Not sure if you noticed, but Israel has NEVER been a Muslim country.
Much of today's Muslim lands were Christian lands first...then the Muslims began their violent process of elimination of the Infidels...Many of Islams historic mosques were once Christian churches...
Notice how the story does not mention any real results of the Israeli missile. The photo's caption does not give any specifics, and if they agreed that the Syrian mortars were "Stray" and "Accidents" why retaliate with violence and destruction. Who are the real aggressors here?
Turkey has done more then just fire a warning shot, and they are not officially at war with Syria. They also were fired on first many times and then took the proper measures.
I think the amount of aid should match the population somewhat. Israel has 6 million people and gets 3-6 billion a year in aid or between $500-1000 per person a year. How does that compare with those Muslim countries? I do not care that it is earmarked for American goods either free stuff is still free stuff. I am still waiting on my uzi, cornershot, or SS109 :P.
pulsar, you are in desperate need of a history lesson. Persia predates England lol that's why it is referred to as the "cradle of civilization"
The Middle East is the dung-hole of the planet; it has exported its religions (and therefore its religious hatreds) for thousands of years, and the very same hatreds continue to this minute. It has infused its contemporary politics (both internally and externally) with its ancient religious nonsense, and therefore not all the "peace talks" you can have will bring an end to this insanity.
Religion itself is the immoral culprit that causes these conflicts.
To those of you who disagree with what I have just said, I challenge you to prove me wrong.
george....but was a Christian land or Muslim land? That's the stupidity of the entire argument!! Maybe someone, somewhere, someday will be able to determine who actually cast the first stone and all this insanity will stop.
Meanwhile the revolution in Syria continues and Israel flexes its muscle and the powder keg gets a little warmer.
Just a little expression of neighborly love .
Amazing prophecy unfolding before your very eyes...... it was prophesied thousands of years ago that this would happen in the last days and we are in the last days
Jer 49:23 - 26
Concerning Damascus. Hamath( Hama) is confounded,
and Arpad (Aleppo): for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee, and fear hath seized
on her: anguish and sorrows have taken
her, as a woman in travail.
How is the city of praise not left, the city of
my joy!
Therefore her young men shall fall in her
streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day(no more Syria
Military), saith the LORD of hosts.
Isaiah 17:1 Damascus will be a Ruinous HEAP
Isaiah 17:4 the glory of Jacob shall be made thin ( Israel will Be weakened )
Soon (The King of the North) Russia and its allies will make there move.
Eze 21:27 I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it (Israel): and it shall be no more, until he comes whose right it is; and I will give it him..... Israel has been overturned 2 times and now we are seeing their 3rd soon. And Christ will become King of the Earth on the 3rd.
Christ (The SON of God)will destroy Them and there Allies in the land of Israel.
Note: Muhammad was born in approximately AD 570-571.
Islam has NOT been around for thousands of years. Hopefully they can all find peace and then stay put. Poor Turkey, the only secular, non-repressive Muslim country - flooded with refugees.
Christianity in Iran has a long history, dating back to the early years of the faith. It is older than the State Religion, Islam itself.
How do people not know history, christianity pre-dates islam by hundreds of years. The quran teaches that the basic principals of christianity are true and the reason for islam is to fix all the things that the christians got wrong. Got read both religious texts and maybe take a religious theology class or two before running off at the mouth.
This is all a big story to raise ratings for soemthing that has happened numerous times already. Isreal has given a verbal warning multiple times and lat time told Syria that another "accidental" strike in isreal would deem a military response. Isreal just gave them a shot across the bow in hopes of preventing a further escalation, isreal does what it wants abviously, If it truely wanted war with Syria, it would just go in there with no regard. Something is holding them back and I don't think it is the U.S. as much as it is knowing that if they go into Syria, the rest of the middle east will come after them, and the spineless piece of crap we have in office won't do a damn thing to help anyone. *cough* bengahzi *cough*
What a coincidence.
Last night, on a different article, another viner posted a link to all of the shelling attacks on Israel in just the last few days including the Syria attack.
Here is that link.
http://www.jpost.com/Authors/AuthorPage.aspx?id=46
Israel retaliates and we now have an article here.
whutupwiththat??? Go figure. It just couldn't be that our media is slanted against Israel, could it???
If the Syrians bombed the US, Obama would do nothing! Even if forewarned!
The proof of this was the Benghazi attack on our Embassy a few weeks ago... even now the liberal media is ignoring that story as well, much to Barry's relief!
Pulsar, I hate to break this shocking news to you like this, but, the Muslims were around a lot longer than the Christians. So no, they were Muslim countries long before the Christians came about. Go re-read your history books and get up to speed on things.
@ Alan-3015148
You may not aware, but there are those who are trying to do a "self-fulfilling prophecy".
You know the one that think they are the chosen one, the one instrument of God and there is nothing worse than that. They would do whatever it takes to make everything in Bible come true, including to attempt to carry out whatever the Bible said will happen. They think by doing this, they are doing God's work and in the end will make thing go faster for the Judgement's Day where they will be able to be by God side.
Pulsar stated: "Christianity in Iran has a long history, dating back to the early years of the faith. It is older than the State Religion, Islam itself."
Not by a long shot it isn't. Christianity wasn't formed until after Jesus died. You do remember how long ago that was, right? And the Muslim religion was there thousands of years before that.
Only, Islam came about in 622AD.
The problem I see with peoples understanding of this is, that the Jewish faith did not merge with Christianity, until AFTER Christianity was started. So, to say Christianity is older than the Muslim faith is not correct.
I thought Islam started with Muhammad, who was born in 570 AD. Also, the Koran was written to address how Jews screwed up worshiping God, not the Christians, whom they considered blasphemous because they didn't think it right God could have a son.
Mexico's violence spills into America all the time and we do nothing.
The United States wouldn't allow weapons to land on their territory without any response whether intentional or accidental. I don't understand why every other country is expected to show restraint. The USA, one of the largest, richest and most heavily armed countries in the world is just ending a 10 year war in a country that didn't attack and the only evidence of a threat was intelligence fiction. Over 100,000 Iraqis were killed and thousands of American soldiers.
kpr37 has taken the guesswork out of islam in these three articles COMPLETE WITH LINKS. This should settle it.

And Only, pulsar is correct.
If we kept territory after becoming involved in conflicts, soon we would have no conflicts to be involved with. Once others realize there is a permanent price to pay for US intervention. They will avoid getting US into it. P.S. Isreal is baiting Iran.
Woof: How so? I read the Koran. That's what it seemed to say to me. Did you study religion in school?
@CuongDNguyen
I am aware of the term "self-fulfilling prophecy" it is a term used to deny or downplay that Bible Prophecy is happening today before our very eyes. It will not be avoided. Those that you think are in power to self-fulfill, are not there to self-fulfill but to fulfill what God has already said would happen. And we are in those last days.
King Neb. was an example of this for he thought it was because of his doing that the Kingdom of Babylon was so great.
And he was reminded by Daniel that it was not so. God ruleth the kingdoms of man and giveth it to whomever he will.
Dan. 4:17, 25 and 32
All of the rulers we have today are there for a purpose. And that is to bring Glory to God.
Israel has the right to defend itself. Just as Turkey has done since this war broke out.
Alan, crawl back into your fallout shelter.
Theocracy is the most dangerous form of government. When there are two of opposing theologies in conflict, there will never be a solution that satisfies both.
It is illegal by international law to annex territory gained from war, a good rule, since it takes away the profit motive from initiating wars.
Israel illegally annexed the Golan after the 1967 war, which was started by Israel. Therefore, the shell fired into the Golan was within Syrians territory. The shot fired from Israel, constitutes an act of war. International rules prevail.
Stop all aid to Israel. With any luck, the Zionist regime in Israel will cease to exist. Their whole goal is to expand the borders of Israel using any pretext they can muster to initiate a war. Read below: Their former leaders verify what I just wrote.
“Moshe Dayan, the celebrated
commander who, as Defense Minister in 1967, gave the order to conquer the
Golan...[said] many of the firefights with the Syrians were deliberately
provoked by Israel, and the kibbutz residents who pressed the Government to take
the Golan Heights did so less for security than for the farmland...[Dayan
stated] ‘They didn’t even try to hide their greed for the land...We would send
a tractor to plow some area where it wasn’t possible to do anything, in the
demilitarized area, and knew in advance that the Syrians would start to shoot.
If they didn’t shoot, we would tell the tractor to advance further, until in
the end the Syrians would get annoyed and shoot.
And then we would use artillery and
later the air force also, and that’s how it was...The Syrians, on the fourth
day of the war, were not a threat to us.’” The New York Times, May 11, 1997
The
history of Israeli expansionism
“The acceptance of partition does not commit us
to renounce Transjordan; one does not demand from anybody to give up his
vision. We shall accept a state in the boundaries fixed today. But the
boundaries of Zionist aspirations are the concern of the Jewish people and no
external factor will be able to limit them.” David Ben-Gurion, in 1936,
quoted in Noam Chomsky, “The Fateful
First, Cassandra, learn how to read. The article clearly states in the very first line that "a stray mortar round hit a Israeli military outpost in the Golan Heights".
Secondly, I am so sick of this Christian, Muslim and Jew BS that I could just puke. You are all from the same Abrahamic fairytale, you are all delusional, you all have twisted the oral traditions of ancient ASTROLOGY and created fictional father figure in your own image, complete with an ego the size of the universe. He is a vain, self centered, racist, egotistical, vengeful, WEAK and inept god, just like the moronic "faithful" who created him in their own image. You cannot blow yourselves up soon enough for me, just hurry up and rapture yourselves up to the place with the gates made of Oyster spit and the streets paved with shiny rocks so you can spend eternity sitting on cotton candy clouds, playing harps and singing praises to your imaginary friend, then the rest of us can finally live in peace and begin to repair the physical damage you have done to the planet and the mental damage you and your sick, twisted religions have done to the human race.
@Alan-3015148
I think you have a misunderstanding of what "self-fulfilling prophecy", they are not being deny or downplay, they are being carry out by religions fanatics because they think they are the chosen one that will make them happen.
Are you telling me that's God's will the same as some fanatics that start wars to finally fit what happened in the Bible? Perhaps you should read more history because there are plenty who said "the end of day" happens for thousand of years and they keep inciting conflict.
Guess what? We are still here and the world is not at the end. Only nut jobs would say everything at the end and guess what? If the world is not at the end in 100 or 200 years, you will see that it will come to an end? That's why I said these kinds of people are the worse of all.
Woof the dog...75% of journalists are Dems...? It proves they have their heads on straight and are not buying the Bain Capital Approach as endorsed by 8 years of warmongering Bush policy.
Allen2635...Shouldn't that be 8 years of Plundering Plutocracy? If we thought the era of the Robber Barons was bad...the Plundering Plutocrats of the 8 Bush years was worse. But Robber Barons had their Gilded Age of luxury all while they ignore the deaths their industries caused tens of thousands of Americans and the destruction their piggery brought on with the Great Depression...Today's Plundering Plutocracy is far worse because in seconds they can turn profits that aren't tangible and end up taking more out of their corporations to jack their salaries. That has to stop. Particularly with Plutocrats who think taxpayers should pay for their bankruptcies all while not a dime of their plundered wealth is lost.
It's time for tighter legislations on corporate salaries that bankrupt their own companies and then demand help from taxpayers to pay the bills those fat salaries should have paid first.
Gee, deprogrammer, how are you going to "finally live in peace" with all of your hate and anger. Even after you get rid of all of those ignorant, inferior Christians, Muslims and Jews, there are going to be some folks left who still disagree with you. Maybe it would be easier for you to simply go off now and live in exile with some ancient astrologers.
So firing a missile into another country is a warning? OK. If it starts they will try their best to drag the USA into it while they sit back and watch.
Ralph H,
Where did you learn your war history? The game of Risk? Jordan, Egypt and Syria signed over territory including the Golan heights after the 7 day war. In order to end war the loser must sue for peace, then negotiations start. The peace starts at the acceptance of the deals from both sides of the agreements. Remember when Japan Sued for peace and signed the surrender on the USS Missouri? Japan agreed on the peace and the conditions set by the US government. You know why the US invaded Iraq by George W? Because Saddam broke the conditions of the accord he made to end the 1st war, this is why George W could not be impeached, legally the 1st war was still on. AS for Golan and the West Bank, these were signed over to Israel as conditions of the peace accord in 1967, they legally belong to Israel!
Only in America,
I think you're confusing geographical history with religious history. Also I think you fail to understand that Christianity was born out of Judaism; there was no "merging" ever, but a "born out of". It's a Messianic Sect of the Jewish Messianic prophesies. It was Middle Eastern Jewish men who spread the messianic belief that Jesus was the messiah. Christianity started with Christ, not after. Christ was the spark, the inspiration. His disciples, Jewish men, spread the word all throughout the Middle East and across the Mediterranean. Christianity IS NOT a European, "white man", religion. It's a Middle Eastern religion that was thrust upon the Pagan Europeans by the Roman Empire. The earliest Christians were Middle Eastern people!! The earliest Christian Church is in Lebanon!! The Muslim or Islamic faith was brought to the Middle East by Muhammad 600 years later. Here's a little history lesson:
Muhammad was born in Mecca approximately 570 C.E. and was a member of the Quraysh tribe. ... When he was 12, he visited Syria and had his first exposure to Jews and Christians and apparently developed a respect for these "People of the Book." ... During one trading journey when he was about 40, Muhammad had an encounter with the angel Gabriel revealed to him special revelations. ... The people who accepted Muhammad's teachings came to be known as Muslims and their religion Islam, Arabic for "surrender [to the will of Allah]."
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/biography/Muhammad.html
So as you can see Christians were in Syria before Muhammad was even born. Before Islam the non Jewish and Christian people of the Middle East were Pagans. All of the Middle East were Pagans before Abraham. Even Sarah and Abraham's father, who were from Canaan, were Pagans who worshiped idols.
All the peoples of the Middle East are related, just like Europeans are related. They might be separated by religion, but not by DNA.
It didn't take long for one of the Levant to act without our strong President's public approval. Guess what's coming next?
KateIndigo is absolutely correct in what she/he writes. If people would just read the history books and listen to those who know what they are talking about, we would all be better off. It seems that the mothers of young people in the squares of Jerusalem have more respect and hope for others than we show in the above comments. If you have put your message on paper and left it at the Western Wall, you would understand. "Peace" is an international aspiration. "Hate" seems to be a condition of having no aspirations: a disease of the emotions, based on a great unmet gap in awareness. Don't hate people, just the things they do because they hate something, just like here in the USA.
Dont worry libs, O'bama will lay over and play dead. Iran fired upon our drone and we did nothing.
Ralph H: In June 1967, the combined armies of Egypt, Syria, and Jordan attacked Israel with the clear purpose expressed by Egypt's President: "Destruction of Israel." At the end of what is now known as the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel, against all odds, was victorious and in possession of the territories of the West Bank, Sinai and the Golan Heights.
International law makes a clear distinction between defensive wars and wars of aggression. Egypt's blockade of the waterway known as the Strait of Tiran, which prevented access to Israel's southern port of Eilat, was an act of aggression that led to the Six-Day War in 1967. More than six decades after the 1948 War and more than four decades since the 1967 Six-Day War, it is hard to imagine the dire circumstances Israel faced and the price it paid to fend off its neighbors' attacks.
Israel, faced with the imminent threat of obliteration, was forced to invoke its right of self-defense, a basic tenet of international law, enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Israel's wars with her neighbors are zero-sum games. The Arab objective in the 1967 Six-Day War was to overrun and eradicate the Jewish state.
Arabs would like the world to believe that in 1967, Israel simply woke-up one morning and invaded them, and therefore Israel's control of the Golan Heights, West Bank and Sinai is the illicit fruit of an illegal act - like Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1991.
Professor, Judge Stephen M. Schwebel, past President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) states the following facts:
"The facts of the June 1967 'Six Day War' demonstrate that Israel reacted defensively against the threat and use of force against her by her Arab neighbors. This is indicated by the fact that Israel responded to Egypt's prior closure of the Straits of Tiran, its proclamation of a blockade of the Israeli port of Eilat, and the manifest threat of the UAR's use of force inherent in its massing of troops in Sinai, coupled with its ejection of UNEF. It is indicated by the fact that, upon Israeli responsive action against the UAR, Jordan initiated hostilities against Israel. It is suggested as well by the fact that, despite the most intense efforts by the Arab States and their supporters, led by the Premier of the Soviet Union, to gain condemnation of Israel as an aggressor by the hospitable organs of the United Nations, those efforts were decisively defeated. The conclusion to which these facts lead is that the Israeli conquest of Arab and A rab-held territory was defensive rather than aggressive conquest."
The answer can be found on the official website of the Jordanian Government under the heading "The Disaster of 1967." It describes the events of the days prior to June 5, 1967 and clearly indicates that Jordan, at least, expected Egypt to launch the offensive war against Israel. Israel did not enter the West Bank until it was first attacked by Jordan:
"On May 16, Nasser shocked the world by asking the United Nations to withdraw its forces from Sinai. To the surprise of many, his request was honored two days later. Moreover, the Egyptian president closed the Straits of Tiran on May 22. Sensing that war was now likely, [And] ∑ in response to the Israeli attack [on the Egyptian Air Force], Jordanian forces launched an offensive into Israel, but were soon driven back as the Israeli forces counterattacked into the West Bank and Arab East Jerusalem." [Italic by author]
In fact, Jordan was an illegal occupier of the West Bank from 1948 to 1967, and the undisputable aggressor in the Six-Day War of 1967. Thus, Israel acted lawfully by exercising its right of self-defense when it redeemed and legally occupied Judea and Samaria, known also as the West Bank.
Israel had clarified to Jordan through UN diplomatic channels that it should stay out of the war. It stated simply: "We shall not attack any country unless it opens war on us." King Hussein of Jordan sent a reply via the UN envoy that "since Israel had attacked Egypt, [Israel] would receive his reply by air" - a 'message' that came in the form of Jordanian air raids on civilian and military targets, shelling Jerusalem with mortars and long-range artillery on Ben-Gurion Airport, then extending the front to shelling Israel's 'narrow hips' under the mistaken belief that the Arabs were winning. Had Jordan heeded Israel's message of peace instead of Egypt's lies that the Arabs were winning the war, the Hashemite Kingdom could have remained neutral in the conflict, and Eastern Jerusalem and the West Bank would have remained in Jordan's possession. Jordan was far from a 'minor player' in the Arabs' war of aggression as their narrative implies. Israel lost 183 soldiers in battle with Jordanian forces.
Judge Sir Elihu Lauterpacht wrote in 1968, just one year after the 1967 Six-Day War:
"On 5th June, 1967, Jordan deliberately overthrew the Armistice Agreement by attacking the Israeli-held part of Jerusalem. There was no question of this Jordanian action being a reaction to any Israeli attack. It took place notwithstanding explicit Israeli assurances, conveyed to King Hussein through the U.N. Commander, that if Jordan did not attack Israel, Israel would not attack Jordan. Although the charge of aggression is freely made against Israel in relation to the Six-Days War the fact remains that the two attempts made in the General Assembly in June-July 1967 to secure the condemnation of Israel as an aggressor failed. A clear and striking majority of the members of the U.N. voted against the proposition that Israel was an aggressor."
Professor, Judge Schwebel, wrote in What Weight to Conquest:
"(a) a state [Israel] acting in lawful exercise of its right of self-defense may seize and occupy foreign territory as long as such seizure and occupation are necessary to its self-defense;
"(b) as a condition of its withdrawal from such territory, that State may require the institution of security measures reasonably designed to ensure that that territory shall not again be used to mount a threat or use of force against it of such a nature as to justify exercise of self-defense;
"(c) where the prior holder of territory [Jordan] had seized that territory unlawfully, the state which subsequently takes that territory in the lawful exercise of self-defense has, against that prior holder, better title.
"As between Israel, acting defensively in 1948 and 1967, on the one hand, and her Arab neighbors, acting aggressively, in 1948 and 1967, on the other, Israel has the better title in the territory of what was Palestine, including the whole of Jerusalem ..."

Just FYI for anyone who cares (and these are all approximates):
Oldest monotheatic religions are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, in that order. Judaism was a tradition approximately 4000 to 2000+ -years BCE, was a religion with the Torah 1450 years BCE, Christianity was an offshoot of Judaism based on the followers of Jesus' teachings (and belief that Jesus is God's son) and was a formal religion in 1 AD/CE, and Islam is the youngest major religion, formalized by the Qur'an in 610 AD/CE.
Hinduism is the oldest currently practiced major religion in the world.
Illegal to annex? Someone needs to tell China,Russia, Great Briton, and others about that rule. Didn't I mention we don't need to play by rules when your fighting terrorists? Bush Doctrine says attack, kill, so why not keep? P.S. This isn't a religious war. It is a crusade.
My Koran? Why? Because I bothered to read it? It's not very long. Try it for yourself, since you appear to be quite interested. (But not before bedtime as it's pretty boring.)
@Basil - a very intelligent and fact filled reply to Ralph. However, that will fall on deaf ears and blind eyes as I have tried to educate him on more than one occassion in regards to Israel.
My personal take on this whole thing is Assad, like Iran, is hoping to spark some other external crisis, against a commonly concieved and perceived enemy. In Syria that would be Israel, in Iran, it would be the United States or Israel. The common enemy is one that rallies even internal factionism and acts to unite all under the banner of Nationalism. Unfortunately, it signals the grasping at straws to stave off what would otherwise become thier downfall.
Israel and Lebannon and Turkey as well all have the right to protect thier borders, whether it is captured land, conceeded land as a result of a peace deal, or even sovereign territory. The whelping puppy on the porch is no more of a deterrent than a house with unlocked doors and an unarmed occupant is to a burglar. Sometimes it becomes necessary to let loose the barking dog (retalliation) to let the neighbor know it is unacceptable to @!$%# in my yard. Syria's civil conflict is @!$%#ting in everyone's yard over there. From refugees to errant bombs and mortar shells to disruptions in trade and commerce, there is always an external issue that arises from the internal issues of a nation.
Here in the US, it is illegal immigration, it is Cuban Refugees, it is the constant influx of those that don't rightfully belong, and all as a result of where they come from sucks. I support the right of any sovereign nation to defend its borders and its citizens, and for someone to suggest we cut aid to such a country is about as senseless as telling a home owner it is ok to own a gun for protection, but you can't have bullets.
@CuongDNguyen
We will agree to disagree. Is it God's will that we have the fanatics? simple answer is No... man wanted kings to rule over them and lead them into Battle. God allows these rulers to have their power to get to the final destination. The end will come as a thief in the night, Prophecy was recorded so that we can watch and be prepared for the things to come. So we are not caught unaware. No man knows the day or time when it will happen, but we can be prepared or not. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth in that day......
Here's a few things that are happening today in the news that are revealed in Prophecy.......and will fully happen.
Damascus will be a ruinous heap and no longer exist as a city. Syrias military will be gone. Isa 17:1-4. Why is Damascus destroyed? If you notice in v.4 Jacob(Israel) shall be made thin and wax Lean. Does Syria allow there chemical weapons to be used on Israel and Israel reponds with an all out attack? we will find out soon enough.
The Nations will divide Israel (probably with good intentions to bring peace in the region) Joel 3:2. Just last month the UN said the only way for peace is to divide the land, and they are pushing very hard for this as we speak. Possibly will happen after the destruction of Damascus, and Israel is weak.
EU is on the brink of collapse, they are in talks now to create a kinda of SuperState to rule over the EU with common morals and Laws. Britian which is Tarshish in the Bible will not be apart of it. The Beast in the Bible is the representation of Land of Europe. The rulers of Europe now will give up their power to be ruled by the New Super Government (kinda like the federal govern that rules over the U.S.) "The Beast" In hopes to salvage the EU. Rev. 17:12-13
Thats just a few of the things that are being fulfilled today....and when they come to pass you will know we are in the Last days.
And as far as History goes? I Love History.... lol
did they say that stray motars are just happening to fall on Israeli military positions by accident?
yeah right.
Jews of Israel need to have some patience.
Moderate Jews need to control nut cases like Netanyahus from getting between Shiites vs Sunnis unending battles.
The seventh century bigoted Sunni Saudi Islamic haters and killers need some enemies to hate and kill.
If they don't get non-Muslims, they will kill their own Muslims inventing divisions based on sects like Shiites, Sufis, Ahmedias or tribes like Kurds, Hazaras and so on!
So Jews should not get in between the battles in Syria and Iran. If they get in between, both warring Sunnis and Shiites will join hands and hate US and allies, Jews, Christians and so on.
Moderate Jews: please take a break!
Israel is obviously sheltering and aiding Syrian rebels in Golan Heights. They desperately want to topple the current Syrian government because it is aligned with Iran. Never mind that the rebels are all Islamic terrorists - to Israel, they are the good terrorists.
This AM BBC reporting Israeli tank fire took out some Syrian artillary units.
My suspicion is the "opposition" lobbed some mortar shells into the Israeli Golan Heights to illicit a response. Syrian forces would in no way want to antagonize the Israeli's given their present set of circumstances. I think the same likely happened along the Turkish border.
One mortar round: $20
One missile: $100,000
I wonder who won this round.
Not to worry, Obama paid for it with US Taxpayer monies.
that is the best view point i have ever seen. thanks puts it in perspective
Never mind the fact that we have been funding their military for nearly 40 years.
How can you go through life only seeing things as you want them to be?
MIke, we have given equal amounts to Egypt. The Israelis are required to use our money to buy American goods.
"wakani"........really? you really want to go there? and Bush spent how much of our tax dollars looking for WMD's that he knew, were never there! There was NOT a war until Bush declared it a war. What's happening in Syria is a real conflict, not generated by some beer drink'n, cocaine snorting idiot from Texas! When are you republican's going to stop pretending that the Iraq war never happened, that thousands of American's died and trillions of our tax dollars were spent on a game that Bush and his cronies played. Want to worry about money spent....take a look at the waste land, that Bush created that is Iraq and Afghanistan!
Cynic2012 and NYMike--- Israel did, even with your math. Israel stopped needing our financial help a long time ago. The Israelis are far richer and more industrious than our sorry-ass outsourced, debt riddled nation. They also have enough nukes to have the entirety of their surrounding nations annihilated (granted-- we graciously gave them those). Syria was unsound in it's decision to allow any stray mortar shot into Israel... mistaken or not. Syria, Egypt, and all border countries with Israel would be well advised to back of from antagonizing the Jews. It's a fight that'll only result in their getting their collective butts kicked in... an no, I'm not a Jew... if you're an anti-semite. So keep that rhetoric to yourself. If you're a realist, you'd recognize that the worst is yet to come.
The Israelites followed Moses to the land that was promised to them from God. The people there had two choices, surrender or die. Today when asked, the Israelis say that Palestine is their land because God gave it to them. This happened so long ago that it should not even be an issue today. The people on any land that believe they are being ruled by a government that does not have their best interests at heart are free to do anything to change that situation, keeping in mind that soverign borders are recognized and are only violated at risk of condemnation. Israel fought off six countries to maintain their borders and Syria would gladly cross over to eliminate Israel today. Israel will not allow "accidental" or otherwise violations of their border by any country, even the U.S. if it came to that situation. Assad must keep his problems at home and must find a solution within his borders. Turkey and Israel have vested interests in the area and will do everything to keep Assads problems in Syria. The decision of what aid is to be provided to the rebels or Assad will be made by the Arab League or whatever portion of the League that feels they should intervene, not by the U.S., Israel, Turkey, Russia or China.
Actually its the republicans that fund the war machine and constantly ask for more 'defense' money and increase the budget year after year after year
Funny how republicans claim they want smaller government but dont' mean it. Sure, smaller government aid programs but put what is 'saved' from those right back into military spending. So it is in no way actually any smaller of a government, just a bigger more well armed military.
Almost as if to keep them in power... with force if needed.
The election is over guys, give it a rest. How can we expect our elected officials in Washington to work together and try to fix things, if we, the people, can't. Hard to believe sometimes, but as they say, we're all on the same side.
@Larry-937287: I admire your fantasy life. So tell me, what happens to Israel if they use those nukes? Ever hear of radiation? They can't use them against Egypt due to prevailing winds. They can't use them against Israel or Lebanon due to water contamination.
Wealth? Israel maintains a facade of prosperity due to remittances. In reality, it's an impoverished country with far more people than it can ever support. If it weren't for its war industry exports, its bubble would have burst long ago. Its entire GDP is less than the tax revenue of Texas. Its per capita is around 50% that of the US.
Stray mortar into Israel? More fantasy: no, it entered the Golan Heights, which Israel has illegally annexed but which no country recognizes?
Any other propaganda you'd like to spew?
Not true. For every dollar Israel gets, Egypt get just under $0.50 cents. Since 1985, we send Israel 3.0 billion annually, versus 1.3 annually to Egypt. Read the accords.
So this justifies supplying both sides with the means to destroy each other? I also hardly consider tanks, and fighter jets as American goods. All Egypt and Israel have bought that is American, is it's military industrial complex.
You may want to tell Israel that. They seem to gladly accept several billion a year from us. So, why does a country that doesn't need our money, not simply return it? Or better yet, why do we keep sending it?
It's because it is yet another military asset we can exploit when needed.
I didn't see any rhetoric from neither cynic2012 or myself in the posts you made your reply around. I did see a lot of bias in yours though.
@Woof the dog Who said:
"75% of journalists in America are registered Democrats. What does that tell you ?"
Two things. Nothing. And you don't know what you are talking about. You just pulled that 75% number from the bottom of your a.s.s! There has never been a survey done anywhere that polled for that statement. Ever! If you have one please share it with us. Even though it is completely irrelevant to this article.
Cynic:
Israel GDP
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Israel was worth 242.93 billion US dollars in 2011, according to a report published by the World Bank. The GDP value of Israel is roughly equivalent to 0.39 percent of the world economy. Historically, from 1960 until 2011, Israel GDP averaged 61.60 Billion USD reaching an all time high of 242.93 Billion USD in December of 2011 and a record low of 2.60 Billion USD in December of 1962. The gross domestic product (GDP) measures of national income and output for a given country's economy. The gross domestic product (GDP) is equal to the total expenditures for all final goods and services produced within the country in a stipulated period of time. This page includes a chart with historical data for Israel GDP.
Total tax revenue of Texas was about 55 billion in fiscal year 2011 (as per Texas comptroller of public accounts).
So where do you get your information from? Jealous? Not bad for a country the size of New Jersey. I admire your fantasy life.
To Ken Trout-read and laern.

retention of the West Bank and Gaza Strip was not...The [UN] General Assembly

This from the post of basil Romeo - on May 22. Sensing that war was now likely, [And] ∑ in response to the Israeli attack [on the Egyptian Air Force], Jordanian forces launched an offensive into Israel,
To Basil - Your post is mostly drivel, wreitten by Zionists in a vain attempt to justify a sneak attack on Egypt. As I have posted many times, israeli leaders were well aware of the fact that Nasser was not in a postion to attack Israel, as he didn't have near enough fire power at the border. There was no real threat to Israel from Egypt. The fact Egypt allowed themselves to be caught with its air force on the ground is indication enough that they were not prepared to go to war.
Jordan had a security agreement with Egypt, which they attempted to honor.
"The thesis that the danger of genocide was hanging over us in June
1967 and that Israel was fighting for its physical existence is only bluff,
which was born and developed after the war."
Israeli General Matityahu Peled, Ha'aretz, 19 March 1972.
In other words - Israel developed a massive campaign of lies to cover up their war on the Arab states. It was a war designed to steal more territory and gain water and farmland. Zionists have been serial liars since their very begginning. They are not to be trusted. End all aid to Israel.

The homes demolished were left & abandoned for years. Palestinians refuse to live under any rule of government that is NOT Islamic, and certainly never under a Jewish leadership, this is the reason they left to begin with, none were forced to leave! They had the choice to remain and many did, there are over 1 million Muslims now living peacefully in Israel at this time. How many Jews do you think can live peacefully ion the Palestinian Camp? EXACTLY!
Ken - You live in a fantasy world, where evil is good and good is evil.
Basil - Actions speak louder than words. The Egyptians did not attack Israel, they were not prepared to attack and they were not equipped to attack.
The Israelis have been threatening to attack Iran for the past 10 years. By your logic, it is OK for Iran to attack Israel today or tommorow in a preemptive war.
Though Israel had secretly done business with the Islamic Republic after the 1979 revolution,
seeking to cultivate a Persian wedge against its local Arab enemies, the early
1990s saw a concerted effort by Tel Aviv to portray Iran as a new and
existential threat.
1992: Israeli parliamentarian Benjamin Netanyahu tells his colleagues that Iran is 3 to 5
years from being able to produce a nuclear weapon – and that the threat
had to be "uprooted by an international front headed by the US."
Ken
Are you new? I appreciate the posts and ideas. Ralph is squarely in the Palestinian camp. There is alot of that around. That is who they support. By proxy He supports their program, charters, and objectives of the Palestinian cause and that of any of its various off-shoot groups, Muslim resistance movements etc. They merely don't bother to finish their posts to the end consequense of their objectives. No need. "Fair Play" That is:Any attack or undermining the legitimacy of the Jewish State of Israel but that of our USA relationship as well is to that ultimate end. "They" will quote Orwell. And YES. Its kinds creepy to read....
For these folks. It is a "no-holds barred" fight. Sophistry, the deployment of cleverly disguised fallacious reasoning/persuasion. Or giving secondhand quotes from "sources". This method relys on the favorable odds that most readers won't bother to VET. Note above where he "makes claims about the UN Charter" in a manner that suggests some "expertise". i.e.,, maybe he read some of the REAL UN Charter and not someones dubious "Cliff Notes" that he has provided us. Its easy to read and cut and paste from the Real UN Charter. or Mention a Chapter. Like "UN Charter: Chapter 80". The Chapter you want us to read Right? Chapter 80.
The Palestinian deal is no Israel. Everything is Palestine since Mohammad drove the dinosaurs into the sea in 30,000 BCE. No Jews. "For perpetuity" I believe there is no need for another Palestine. THEIR homeland is Jordan. Arabs that don't like living East of the Jordan should be free to leave and have automatic citizenship in Palestina-Jordan.
Oh yah, You can be sure he won't cut and paste (he loads up TONS) or links to any of THEIR Charters!
Anyway Ken, Welcome to the bizarro world of Ralph and the creeping Vine.
Why are mad Jewish leaders like Netanyahus acting as agents of Sunni Saudis.
Before each Iraqi war, he and US Jewish lobby danced along Sunni Saudis, oil companies and their lobbyists.
Then Netanyahus, Sunni Saudis and oil companies vanished from the scene outsourcing dirty jobs of battling Saddam forces to NATO's poor soldiers!
Saudi Arabia through its puppet like oil companies and their lobbyists invented Iraqi wars; manipulated high oil prices; exported their Islamic extremist Salaffi and Wahhabi versions by funding their mosques all over the world.
Now along with Jewish Netanyahus, Sunni Saudis are inventing problems in Syria and again manipulating oil prices higher through sanctions on Iranian oil.
Can't the Netanyahus take a break?
@Basil Romeo. The Texas state budget was $182 billion in 2011. That's the government. Its gross state product is about $1.3 trillion.
Israel is a huge demographic time bomb. To take us back to the original point: without remittances and foreign aid, it would be in serious trouble.
Cynic: You're changing your tune to conform with your misguided reasoning. You made no mention of "Texas State Budget" in your original post. You noted "GDP." From Haaretz, November 12, 2012: "The spending package for 2011 is a projected 348.1 billion shekels ($97 billion) and 365.9 billion shekels have been earmarked for 2012, including debt servicing."
"The Texas House opened the conversation on state spending Tuesday with a $156.4 billion budget that's $31.1 billion smaller than its predecessor, a drop of 16.6 percent from the current two-year spending plan." (From the Texas Tribune, January 19, 2011).
Population of Texas: 26 million. Population of Israel: 7 million.
Cynic: So what's your point? Relative to its size, Israel is ahead of much of the Western world in technological, scientific, and medical advances. Get your facts straight. Then again, you've already lost all credibility so don't even bother.
Its Obamas fault! Also Obama was at fault for the Holocaust and Jesus's murder. I think Obama also was likely the one who gave Stalin the order for the purges and mass murder in Russia.
BrianB-2641029
Don't get your panties twisted... No one said it was obama's fault.
your worship for his is showing again...
its ok to be proud of your leader...but this is more like an obsession
Obama has done nothing in 4 yrs. how is this his fault?
if isreal had accepted the borders set by the UN in the 1940s, none of this would be going on. the seed is greed.
Lee <<< ~~~~~~~~~~~~ >>> Great!!! Too bad I can but give you ONE thumbs up. You are deserving of many. However! You are wrong! Obama has, indeed, done something in the last four years. His time has been spent exclusively in campaigning for the next four years. And at that he succeeded! Maybe, now that he won't be able to reup, he'll actuaclly DO something. And maybe pigs will fly!
Obama has been courting every anti-American Islamic leader he can find...and he's been throwing Israel under the bus. For example...at a recent anti-terror summit held in Turkey organized by Obama...all the radical Islamic countries were invited to attend....Israel was not invited..
george pauljohn <> <> <> <> <> Israel DID accept the borders set by the UN in 1948. It was the Palestinians who refused to accept said borders. They demanded ALL of the land for themselves and NONE for Israel. And, with the assistance of several surrounding Muslim countries, they attacked Israel within 24 hours, loudly proclaiming they would push Israel into the sea. THEY HAVE NEVER BACKTRACKED ON THAT PROCLAMATION. However, in one of the little, itty bitty annoyances of history, beleagured Israel beat the pants off of them. The Palestinians have been whining about it ever since.
George you DO know the Golan Heights was annexed AFTER the war in 1967, right? And you DO know that 1967 came after the 40s?
"if isreal had accepted the borders set by the UN in the 1940s, none of this would be going on"
Check your history--Israel did accept the borders set by the UN in 1948, but 6 Arab countries invaded the day after Israel proclaimed its independence to destroy the country before it had a chance to establish itself. What Israel has it has had to fight for many times--it has earned its territory.
There is an eerie déjà vu about an unmistakable and oft-repeated process in the Arab–Israel conflict. The process started in 1937 and has repeated itself with minor variations many times over the subsequent 74 years. The process is as follows: Arabs go to war with Israel, promising Israel’s destruction and the annihilation of its Jews. Israel wins the war and offers peace. Arab leaders reject Israel’s peace offer, renew their promises of destruction and annihilation; and after a while they go to war again, and lose again, and Israel again offers peace. Repeat this process 31 times and you have the history of the Arab-Israel conflict in a nutshell.
BrianB--- Be real. Obama couldn't organize a game of 'Jacks'; let alone your contentions.
HERE are the original borders.
http://seekingtruth.co.uk/israel_borders.htm
I'm just wondering if the Israeli missile into Syria was meant for Assad or the opposition? In any event, this situation is rife with the potential to broaden the conflict!?
Given the way the situation in and about Syria is developing, I don't see any reason to automatically embrace the opposition government in waiting, if indeed they're successful in overthrowing Assad!
what would America be if every other nation got involved in our past civil war...i probably wouldn't exist along with most of you
roadlesstraveled...Some countries (France, Spain to name a few) tried to help the southerners in our civil war...Lincoln blockaded them with our Navy and kept them out.
Yes roadlesstraveled and if dinosaurs didn't go extinct you wouldn't exist either...What's your point?
His point is to stay out of it...
Is this a way to get the rebels and Syrian govt to peace? Israel to the rescue!
It's a Civil War, do you really think that Assad would honer anything? Nope, so Assad must go.Isrial will not rescue anything or anyone. I'm willing to be that Assad is trying to lure Isrial in more than anything. Isrial is smart and they won't bite.
Civil war in Syria....our message should be....Isreal stand back you over bloated ego maniacs who think everything in this world need to be about you...or else you will make it so....go sit down and stop hiding behind my son while you piss everyone off.
You said that already, and it doesn't make any sense the 2nd time around. Israel will defend itself at all costs regardless of who the troublemakers are. Have you ever actually Been to the middle east, or this living room armchair strategy at it's best.
Mindless...oh, I mean roadless.
Did you know that 3 Syrian tanks entered the Golan last week and Israel did nothing ?
Did you know that this is the 3rd time rockets landed in Israel from Syria and Israel did nothing ?
So, now, they fire ONE warning shot - no injuries or death - but, noooooo, we cant have THAT, now can we ?
From the photo, the warning shot was a hit. A couple of tank shells would have sent the same message.
Note: Israel's annexation of the Golan heights is illegal under international law. (see un resolution 242) It is only recognised by Israel itself. The US has blocked all efforts to have Israel conform with the law.
You appearently don't know a tank round cannot go as far as a missle. Duh!
Resolution deals with the 6 day war and nothing about Golan Heights or annexation. although after didn't want to agree to a peace treaty, the golan heights were not turned back to Syria but 5% of the land is used for a DMZ and Guarded by (get this) UN Peace Keeping Forces. Blows your Isrial Annex thing out of the water doesn't it?
Try again. releasing the Golan Heights back to Israel was dependent on the arab neighbors of Israel to be at peace with Israel:
(ii) Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force
If Israels arab neighbors would accept Israels right to exist i am sure Israel would return the buffer. The muslim brotherhood is determined to annul the peace treaty with Israel. hamas (Gaza) and the PLO both have in their charters the destruction of Israel. Not to mention Iran support of Hexbollah, Hamas and the PLO. I am sure if the arabs would change their mind so would Israel.
Loss of the Golan Heights would make Israel 9 miles wide at the north. If Israel is attacked they do not have room to manuveur their army, thats the whole point of keeping the Golan. Israel i 7,751 sq. mi. Vermont is 9,615 sq. mi. Israel is for the most part 25 miles wide. At the smallest Vermont is 50 miles wide.
Course Arafat was given 97% of what he was requesting and turned the offer down. and the Oslo Accords? They dont exist. Arafat signed the accords however they were not approved by the arabs. The Israeli Knesset approved the accords, however. The arabs never have. So how do you have a accord that both parties dont agree to?
Palestinian reactions were also divided. Fatah, the group that represented the Palestinians in the negotiations, accepted the accords. But Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine objected to the accords because their own charters refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist in Palestine.
That was a file photo. The explosion was not where the missle hit. So exactly where did the missle land? The article does not say.
6dogs,
Perhaps you don't realise just how close the two sides are. the DMZ is only 400 meters wide at it's narrowest. An Israeli tank round is capable of a kill on another tank at 2000 meters. To send a message at no particular target, the round can travel about 4000 meters.
Try reading 242, it applies to all conflicts and was cited after Iraq invaded Kuwait.
Thomas,
loss of the golan heights?
It does not belong to Israel, so how would it be a loss?
When an agreement includes abiding by internatinal law, it may stand a better chance of being accepted.
Accidental missiles??? Who determined this? Israel has the RIGHT, and courage, to defend itself against this type of weaponry intrusion. And, the U.S. has a moral responsibility to be there for them. Flip the coin - they would be there for us. Argue as you will - it is truth.
ED
You stated that twice now, its not any more accurate the second time...
Let me guess, an
intentionalstray mortar was fired into Israel byUS supported rebelsSyrian army forces.Editors Note, Retarded Troll.
Ha! You're actually the retarded one. You zombie.
Of course there was no mention that Israel was fired at this week from Syria. Way to go MSN. Your brillaiant reporting and blatant one sidedness is at it again.
Can you read?
"The military said it fired the missile as a warning shot on Sunday after a stray mortar from Syria hit a military post in the Golan Heights."
I think it was your less than brilliant reading abilities.
If you don't like MSN go else where Troll!
Israel has every right to defend their country and their people. It was God , Himself who gave them this land. And even if you don't like, that is how it should be. The Jewish people have suffered so much, more than any other nationality . The muslim leaders have been a blight on the world. They have no morals, they use children as bombs, they mistreat their women, and in all counts they are a disgrace. I am tired of all you people who would turn your head and protect the real enemies of all people who won't bow down to them. Obama is a weapon of other countries who would like to see America fall. He is a blatant liar who has done nothing good for this countrty. ANd his whole staff as well as himself should be highly investigated. He has not been a president , he has played the role and even failed at that. All God loving people will back Israel.
God did not give them this land. read your histort it did not exist as Israel until the allies gave it to them in 1948
Whoopie
You need to read more than 1 book. This is where Israel existed hundred of years before even Islam existed. This is well known history. BTW - The reason this was created after WWII is because the Jews still lived there as a nation. You must be a troll.
Hey all...sorry to enter this here, but MSN does not allow a discussion under the Veteran's Day article. We are proud to serve. We are not proud of Obama and his terrible policies. Hate it and I am ashamed of our country. That is all I will say at this point. 17 years in Special Forces and 23 in the military. Feel free to comment. That is your right. See my comments under the immigration section. Love my country....hate the ignorance and stupidity.. God Bless
Jimbo...........You sound like you think you speak for every veteran. That would be a mistake.
hate your ignorance and stupidity
jimbosan38
Retired Military here... Thanks for your service. And I agree.
Like you speak for all military, active and veteran. That's the problem with your type. Everyone can have an opinion, as long as it's my opinion.
Jimbosen38, feel free to speak for me, Two tours in Nam, Purple with two clusters! You can also speak for my Father, WWII, hit the beaches on D-Day, he recently told me how he felt, just before he passed away! " Son, if we had even thought that someone like Obama would ever be elected, we never would have gone" his exact words, and he was a Union member and life long Democrat !
Saddly I could no longer serve this Nation and I wonder should I even stay! If America has truly decided that it wishes to be ruled by Socialism, I simply do not fit!
johny he speaks for more of us than you realize
Just curious to see if you were as unhappy about Bush's policies to invade Iraq indefinitely and the Patriot Act? It seems that these actions were a bit more indicative of socialism than anything Obama has tried to do.
Sam: and not as many of us as you might think.
Sam, ted, jim -
So true. While I was lucky and served during peacetime, I served willingly and would have done what was necessary to protect this nation, as I agreed to when I signed on the line on my enlistment papers.
Obama has been an absolute failure in his duties. He failed to protect our ambassador at Benghazi and he outed Seal Team 6.
Jimbo, I understand your feelings and share them. I served 10yrs in the US ARMY( 82-92)and was in Desert Storm. The brave women and men in this country deserve a better CIC than we currently have. The greatest threat to the men and women in our Armed Forces is in Washington DC...Thank you to every vet that has served, is serving and thank you to the patriots, friends and families that support them. 1/41 Inf 2AD(fwd) US ARMY 10 years..
Sam......maybe....but I think you might be surprised at how many might take exception to how broad that brush he uses paints. All Veterans aren't in lockstep with that opinion. When I read some of the comments above, I'm shaking my head.
Today is a day set apart to recognize the contributions that a special group of people made to The United States Of America.
Opinions and beliefs change sometimes. That doesn't lessen those contributions. Trying to politicize this day DOES lessen their contributions....in my opinion.
Yes....You don't like Obama......Just because you are Boobish and lack knowledge doesn't mean you get to speak for all vets.......If there is anybody you should be ashamed of it should be ..... yourself, your statement and your lack of respect for our democratic election process.
You DON'T speak for me! Obviously LOYALTY isn't your strong point. It's a pity you feel like you can speak for anyone that's a vet because you can't and don't. Mr. Obama is a good President that does what he knows how to do. I suppose you think Bush did better by allowing the U.S. to be attacked on his watch? I have yet to see a Republican that really cares about the military service member. Do you see even one of their sons or daughters fighting for the U.S.? NO you don't.
@msjcooks2 - Whose ignorance and stupidity - Yours?? 100% with you jimbosan, thanks for your service
@jim, I am not ashamed of my Country but am Ashamed of a lot of the people that call themselves Americans. I had 24 years in the Army and you disgust me.
Really hsart...spoken by someone who doesn't have a clue.....Reagan and Bush treated the military with total respect. I served under both of these presidents so I can tell you that as a fact. Clinton treated them as servants...If you don't believe that ask someone who served as their staff. GW also respected them. I was a defense contractor and saw it firsthand. Obama uses the military for his own political gain. What has he done for them ??Oh, and about the US being attacked ion Bush's watch, that attack was planned on Clinton's watch. Before spouting off, get the facts. hsart, go back to mommy and daddys basement and play your video games. I definitely wouldn't speak for a twit like you.
Retired military and VietNam vet: Makes me sick to hear folks, especially vets, bash our President over every issue. I have heard him praise our military almost every time he speaks. I am proud to have Michelle supporting our troops and their families in the work she is doing. I don't see the President entering into unnecessary wars that kill and maime our heroes at any opportunity. He has expressed grief many times at the arrival of war casualties at Dover AFB. If I were currently active duty I would be proud to serve under Pres. Obama who gets us out of wars rather than the alternative Gov. Romney who spoke of the necessity to go to war with Iran and who knows how badly that would have ended?
All you Vets bashing Obama over the Benghazi incident - you are all full of crap. The only reason more was not done by his administration is that there were NO ASSETS AVAILABLE in the region. Everything that was available was used. What was not available was due to Repugnicants cutting the budget for additional security.
Yes, I am a Vietnam Veteran. Yes the entire G.W. Bush administration should be brought before a War Crimes Tribunal at the Hague. Obama has done so much to correct the failures of Bush, yet you idiots still worship that Nazi.
Disgusting!
That's irrelevant. The initial assumption from him however, is relevant.
I am a 23 year 5 combat tour disabled vet and he does not speak for me.
Humility is a virtue, and it should always be used. Speak for yourself and let others speak for themselves.
Hsart:
I'd bet this guy, when in the uniform, would follow Obama's orders to the letter even if it meant his death.
"Loyalty" does NOT mean that he has to agree with everything his CIC says.
"Obama has done so much to correct the failures of Bush"
bwahahahaha....he's continued and enhanced them....
That was totally unnecessary .... what exactly is Israel trying to start here?
sophistication53
Israel is not like the USA, someone threatens them or bombs them, they fight back... The don't blame it on a youtube video and do nothing about it.
Ghaddafi and his sons were taken down city street beaten and executed...Saddam Hussein the same...Osama bin Laden the same... the dude from Czechoslovakia the same... we follow Alexander the greats philosphy to a tee.. take out the leader...that mob that stormed the embassy... and took our men to an undisclosed place..will be caught and captured.. but where was our closest base.. Italy..who was more responsible for protection ...Libyan mercenaries.. mercenaries do not work..they are hired hands who have no true loyalty to the cause.. we must protect our own people and stop stretching out our military...
Times..that is on of the truest coments here..
Europe, China and Russia need to step up... one country cannot regime change the entire world. As technology becomes more accesible to third world nations more of these over zealous power hungry leaders will pop up.. nuclear is going to be much easier for many countries.. we have to disarm the world's nuclear weapons to change the future...
@sophistication53 - Read the article, they struck first
@cdee, you need to bone up on what we created with the countries we have defeated like Germany, Japan. Sure they have forces but connot even really defend themselves with out us. Russia has experience there like we do but they are smart enough to stand back and watch and not get involved. We really don't want China getting involved, you've learned nothing here. I find it hard to consider any Nation that has Nuclear power and is a major supplier of Oil and the tech to create a Nuc War head as being Third World. They may not think or live like we do, but they have eye openers to claim a First World spot. Your not exactly talking about an Island Nation with natives living in Palm Thatched Huts.
I wasn't even thinking about Iran when speaking about other third world nations. I was thinking about countries close to where the uranium is down the road. The Benghazi Consulate/Compound was guarded by a small Libyan Guard force... I do not understand why Nato troops are not put at these embassies.. along with a small Libyan Guard. I am basically speaking on a larger group of foot soldiers to guard and protect American and Nato related interests in this shaky region of the world. Libya just became free of Ghaddafi a year ago.. how stable can the gov't have the country in one year? Libyans are going to be loyal to Libyans first.. Russia, China, and Europe could provide more in the security of the region with foot soldiers. We all rely on this region's oil for our economies.. One country should not be responsible for the stability of an entire region.
Last week, three Syrian tanks entered Israel in the Golan--that is an act of war by Syria against Israel.
Oops! Syria fired a mortar shell into Israel--that is also an act of war against Israel.
Israel fires a missile into Syria to let it know such acts will not be tolerated, and you accuse ISRAEL of starting something?
yehudit, THANK you for declaring these events acts of war because that is exactly what they are. It's terrible and ridiculous how the media consistently portrays Israel as the bad guy when it's their so-called "neighbors" relentlessly hammering Israel.
Israel's restraint and patience is amazing.
Sophisticate -
You're a little "oof"....well, maybe MORON than off.
Yehudit in post 10.8 has it right.
Syrai sent 3 tanks into Israel last week, and 3 rockets over the past few weeks, and Israel did NOTHING.
NOW, she fires a warning shot and you have the audacity to ask what ISRAEL is "trying to START "?
When Israel can do no right in the world's eyes, they just stop trying - it's people like you in whose eyes Israel can NEVER do right, which MANDATES that Israel disregard world opinion.
I get little stories about missiles and mortars coming in to Israel 3 or 4 times a week, always a comment about the medias ignorance of it, I once commented that those stories don't sell here but now when Israel fires back that will sell, my point has been proven correct.
Go back and read the article. Israel didn't start anything. Try taking your blinders off for once.
Stray mortar fire is BS. Israel is doing just what Obama wants.
Give it a rest, Bob...
You're too stupid to be commenting in public. That paranoia is a nice touch, though. I guess you think Obama really IS the messiah, and can do anything, huh?
Your Critical thinker seems to be malfunctioning there Bob Did you not read the article? It was stated that we weren't involved, because the resistance movement was " ineffective and riven with personal disputes"! That's "Obamaspeak" for " The Muslim Brotherhood isn't involved yet" !
Well, Bob - I guess you know best.
Are you a screwdriver ? a hammer ? gees, sometimes I just cant tell you TOOLS apart.
In baseball we call that a little chin music..
what a big putrid nasty mess. lets hope the idiots who are in power in the us stay out of it
They won't
Luckily, we reelected the one man that has enough gonads to tell Israel to go pound sand, and not get entangled in their B.S.
Robme would already be planning way to drag us into wars with Syria and Iran, cause he's as much of an idiot as G.W. is.
Yep... The current administration is going to ignore this, "Go pound sand" if mexico launched a mortar at the U.S., and drove tanks in our cities, would you want the U.K. to tell us to go pound sand?
malith, I'd want the UK to keep out of it. We would own Mexico.
As United States diplomats plot behind the scenes with another unknown/unstable (Qatar) a different goal should be sought. Take over Syria and own it, or get out and let the opposition and established order thin each other out, then deal with the winner when the dust settles. This nation building routine has always backfired on us and is depleting American wealth. Let Qatar and the middle east deplete their power/wealth for a change.
where's louie
Russia was there first and is still there. They have even brought in some of their missiles to let the USA know that they are not fooling around.
It would be a pretty easy job to be on the other side of the negoiating table from many of these people, wouldn't it Times-Running-Out ?!
if there was no oil in the region..we would not care if Assad was murdering his own people in the millions (hence, Rwanda..hence, Indonesia..hence the former Yugoslavia) Syria has to fall in order for the pipeline to be completed from Iraq into the Mediterranean...Easier access than the Persian Gulf.. Somali has honed in on how to hurt us..I hate OIL ...it is going to be our downfall if we do not change the course of our own energy indepedents...
" if Syria bordered the US"
Might be better than having Mexico, and all the drug runners. So please don't say America knows how to protect it's borders and that we have control of the people on the other side. As for Israel, they want a War, and have for the past 20 years.
If Israel wanted a war with anyone they would start and end one at anytime.
And the Mexicans have plenty of clientele over the border..enough with this, legalize marijuana so the states can create more revenue.. California alone has a 12 billion dollar annual industry. How much wasted federal land is out there that can be leased to growers. Liquor and Opiates are the worst. The worst. Both manufactured products made and distributed in the U.S. Let a coward get drunk and high on opiates(percs, vikes, oxy) violent crime statistics go up.. Let a coward smoke a joint ... he might contemplate why he is a coward ...Cocaine comes in third..behind our American made miseries..

How much wasted federal land is out there that can be leased to growers. Liquor and Opiates are the worst..the worst.. Cocaine coming in a third..
Let's get this straight. The Israeli government understands that the mortar rounds were inadvertent, yet they purposely fire a missile into Syria. So, in their view, a purposeful attack is an appropriate response to an accidental mortar round? And somehow, some of you yo-yos feel it necessary to blame our country (vicariously through President Obama, of course).
piglizard420
How do you go about shooting a mortar in the wrong direction by accident????
My thoughts exactly Times! Given all these "inadvertant" mortor impacts, in several different Nations it seems, something is a foot or the Sryian Army is clearly the Army that couldn't shoot straight!
Muslims never fire stray rockets or mortars accidently...wherever the explosives go is fine with them...just as long as someone fears them or dies...look for the number of stray Islamic rockets and mortar rounds hitting ISRAEL to increase substantially in the near future....
Just what is the range of a Motar, probably not very far, so you deffinately know what direction it's going.
60 mm 2200 yds
81 mm 6180 yds
120mm 4.5 miles
Our own US Army accidently fired a round into a residential area near Ft. Lewis (Roy, Washington). It's too easy to do.
Well, piglizard, you might have been right - except for the FACT that this is now the FOURTH rocket "Accidentally" fired into Israel - as well as THREE Syrian tanks breaching the border last week...and Israel did nothing.
..but, of course, those like you who are anti-Israel will NEVER find fault with anyone else.
Nah - you dont have an AGENDA, do ya, now ?
The count on the 'accidental rocket firings by Syrians' has now climbed to seven...
Didn't they also 'accidentally' fire into Turkey?
I guess something also 'accidentally" exploded in Lebanon.
Somebody is working hard to drag somebody, anybody at all, into this war.
Still, no one wants to go there. Not Turkey, not Israel, not Lebanon, not UN, and certainly not USA.
Syrians are still welcome to keep killing each other.
Our own US Army accidently fired a round into a residential area near Ft. Lewis (Roy, Washington). It's too easy to do.
Yes...but they don't do it every day and from multiple locations...
"Hey, Moshe...what does this button do?" "I don't know, I was told just don't push it." "I wonder what it does?", "C'mon man, don't mess around with the buttons, Okay?", ""Why, what are they going to do, draft me, cut my hair and station me on the Golan Heights?", "I not screwing around here, leave the friggin' buttons alone!", "Really Dude, what do you think would happen if I were to push it?"......the rest appears on MSNBC.
RTC, it's waaaaaay to early to be that drunk! At least, for civilized people.
Never mind, you may carry on drinking.
the rest appears on MSNBC.
Especially in the comments!!
God...God, is that you? "When we talk to God, it's called praying. When God talks to you it's call schizophrenia."
"Hey! Ahmed, which way is Damascus?"
"That way."
"OK! There we go."
"Wait! I was wrong, it's this way!"
"Too late, the rocket is already on it's way."
"But then... We just fired at Golan Heights."
"Damn! Do you think they will shoot back now?"
"No way! They wouldn't want all this on MSNBC."
Eli, Please stop (tafsek)! LMAO
"HOTTICKET", no onecould have said it any better! You nailed it.
@boski1, Hotticket doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground!!
If Israel does this too much, it will re-unite Syria against itself.
NOPE!!!
MSN reporting is among the worst. The headline tells us that Israel joins the conflict by firing a missile into Syria. Then we learn that a mortar was first fired into Israel. Next it's a "string" of mortar rounds fired into Israel. This is just like MSN reporting of retaliation in Gaza for hundreds of rockets launched into Israel. MSN reports them as airstrikes by Israel.
To be fair, Syrian mortars are basically just bottle rockets, not missiles. And they fired into occupied territory that only Israel recognizes as their own. Shrug, no big deal.
These are simple, god fearing war-like people. The middle east is a harsh world and they've always fought, and will always fight. The semetic people are cut from the same cloth.
The real issue here is that the national boundries drawn up in Versailles in 1917 are retarded.
bob douglas-1120933
I will bet you a dollar that the markings on the mortors says USA.
The markings on those cheap rockets would more likely be from China, North Korea, Russia, or Iran....
I bet you ten dollars that the markings would confirm the mortar was made in iran, since half of the ones launched don't explode! Too funny! If it had been made in the USA, it would have hit something important and at least exploded.
Im glad to see political correctness and pussyism has not infected Israel like it has America.
Amen to that.
DOUBLE AMEN !
Lol. You got that right.
ROGER THAT!
Israel will say and do anything to continue its genocide of the Arab population. The Israeli know that if they start fighting with Syria that the US will send in our military to defend and protect the terrorist nation of Israel. The US falls for this 2 or 3 times every year. Israel would rather see the 18 to 24 year old US troops dead than one Israeli and the US accommodates them.
Gary Hanson-737542
You are wrong there.... The USA trys that and they will me Russa on the other side of the fence.
When it comes to religious genocide, Islam's Qur'an is the only religious book that instructs its followers to "...kill them where you find them.".....the 'them' refers mainly to the JEWS but it also means any non-believer...
Thank you Gary Hanson. Israel has slaughtered without any concern for who they kill, kinda like US, but if anyone looks at the atrocities perpetrated on Palestinian families they'd think twice about all this.
AND REMEMBER RACHEL COREY....REST IN PEACE
And if you don't know who Rachel Corey is, an American citizen murdered by the Israeli Army, and the US looked away.
I believe you have your head on backwards Gary Hanson. Throughout history it's been the Arabs/Muslims who have continuously committed genocide against the Jewish people. During the 1970's the entire Syrian Jewish population had to be smuggled out of Syria to save their lives. Many of them were tortured Syrian style, meaning savage beatings, burnings and beheading.
Hate the Jews much Gary?
The Israelis only want to live in their own free country yet their neighbors and the rest of the Muslim world see's and treats them as enemies. The Israeli's are not in any sense of the word commiting genocide as you falsely claim (read: you are a ignorant liar Gary)
Israel has been involved in no fewer than 7 actual wars and another 6 armed conflicts and in not one case did the United States get involved in the fighting.
If you actually just hate Jews and agree with the Islamist view that they should be wiped off the face of the earth then just say so. Don't sit behind your computer you keyboard commando and make lying statements about the United States involvement in Israel's conflicts.
You are a stupid troll.
Gary Hanson *** ~~~~~ *** " The Israeli know that if they start fighting with Syria....." >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Really, Gary, CAN'T YOU READ ??? IT was SYRIA that shot first. Or do you subscribe to the old "the trouble started when Israel hit back" philosophy ???
More specifically, Rachel Corrie was recruited on an American college campus to go to protest the Israelis. She sat down in front of a Caterpillar bulldozer...and in my area I have seen so many of these machines, I can assure you that the driver can't see what's in front of him once the scoop is down. At that, everyone on both sides agreed that they screamed for the driver to stop and he did his best to back up, making matters only worse.
Libya: Islamic supremacists bulldoze Sufi shrine
Actually, oddly enough, it was Sunni Muslim "hardliners" who did the deed, as they consider Sufis heretical. And Jihad Watch reader Maxwell commented: "Why wasn't there a Rachel Corrie to stop the bulldozer?"
Gary, Gary, Gary....
I would NEVER call you a MORON ONLY because it would be a violation of the code of conduct one here, so I respectfully call your post (not you) MORONIC.
1. Genocide against the Arabs ? (lol, more ppl have died in the 18 month Syrian civil war than in the ENTIRE intifada the last 12 YEARS).
2. U.S. will send OUR boys to fight Israel's war ?
GET THIS, YOU LITTLE &*%$#:
Israel has NEVER requested American boys - you must be confusing that with the ENTIRE Europe in WW2, AND Quatar, in Gulf War 1, ....and whole host of others.
ISRAEL HAS NEVER, NEVER NEVER - NOT ONCE, ASKED FOR AMERICAN BLOOD.
Jeff , you are so right about that!!!
Gary
Israel beat all their asses once in the 60s without any help. They didn't need help then and they don't require any help now.
I will say this again these same Syrians where the same one's jumping up and down cheering after 911 so they are getting what they deserve death and destruction. I have no tears for Syria the whole country should be leveled.
You have the wrong country-it was Saudi Arabia that supplied all of the terrorist ! Syria has been fighting the Muslim Brotherhood braindead ! You are misinformed big time ! Why should Syria be leveled ? You are a sick hateful person that has NO idea that the USA is giving arms and aid to alQaida terroist, Many of these terrorist raped and murdered Ambassador Stevens which you sick people have swept under the rug !
Tony-2816350
Where do you think the 'Left Over' weapons from Libya went? What do you think the CIA was doing over there?
Braindeadus, shut your hole!!!! you are as stupid as a rock!!! Who gave you the right to talk about Syria like that??!! Syria had nothing to do with 9/11 it was AlQaida and the Muslim Brotherhood. You are certainly going to hell with a cold heart like yours. Not all Arabs are muslim terrorist, there is alot of peaceful Christian that has nothing with anything. And i agree with everything Tony-2816350 said, i'm glad that someone still has brain left in their head and not poisoned by the media.
One thing i would like to say is thank you to all the vets in america that served for the poeple god bless you the second thing i would like to is that some one need to do something about syria war give them JUST GIVE THEM WHAT THEY NEED how hard is that i mean weve got millions of weapons to kill each other with cant we spare a few? I really dont want to see another vitenam fiasco all oover again
this is why exactly to stay out! these people only come to gether
to fight the west if we are not there they fight themselves how can the united states ever win a war over there they can't and history has shown that the united states spends trillions to get nothing in return. we went into vietnam after the french got expelled we did not learn from other peoples mistakes we went into iraq just to loose lifes and 800 billion of the tax payers money know wonder why united states is going broke when people realize what it's worth gold will be 5,000 an ounce
snooky the wise one
Hell we can't even protect 4 Americans in that neighborhood, much less an army.
$800 billion, That is pocket change for obama to through away.
Yeah...that's all well and good. But, is it a mandate, yet?
