Israelis, Palestinians tense as violence escalates along Gaza border

More than 200 missiles were fired at Israel Thursday; Israel, in turn, launched about 200 missiles against Palestinian targets. NBC's Martin Fletcher reports.

Updated 12:55 a.m. ET:  Israeli troops were moving toward the Gaza Strip border, heightening Palestinian fears about a possible ground invasion, NBC News' Martin Fletcher reported late Thursday.

Some 30,000 reservists were also ordered to report for duty by the Israel's defense minister as the region's military showdown lurched closer to all-out war.

"There is a great sense of anxiety and tension in the air here," NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reported from Tel Aviv. "People are very much worried about the ongoing operation. There's no doubt from the perspective of the Palestinians this could possibly escalate even further."

There will be momentary peace, however, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said military would stop offensive action in Gaza during a three-hour Friday visit by Hesham Kandil, Egypt's prime minister. An Israeli official said Netanyahu was acting on an Egyptian request, Reuters reported.

Kandil's visit would be an unprecedented display of solidarity with Hamas militants embroiled in a new escalation of conflict with Israel.

In another sign of the growing fear of danger in Gaza, many humanitarian aid workers have evacuated, NBC News reported.

In the latest air strikes, three people were killed when a missile hit their car in the northern Gaza Strip. The Israeli military also said it had carried out aerial attacks and had destroyed 70 unmanned missile launch sites. Eighteen Palestinians have been killed and 100 injured in Gaza since Wednesday, Reuters reported.

In Gaza, fear of a ground invasion has sent shock waves through the region. Coming days could prove dangerous. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin has more.

Earlier, three Israeli civilians were killed and six injured on Thursday as rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, including a long-range missile that struck a suburb eight miles south of Tel Aviv.

The long-range missile, which landed in an open area outside Rishon Lezion, causing no injuries or damage, was thought to be the first of its kind launched from Gaza. Air raid sirens were later sounded in Tel Aviv, at about 6.30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. ET), NBC News reported.

The Tel Aviv metropolitan area has more than 3 million people, more than 40 percent of Israel's population.

"This escalation will exact a price that the other side will have to pay," Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said in a television broadcast shortly after the strike.

Israel's ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, did not rule out a ground operation in Gaza in an interview with NBC's Andrea Mitchell on Thursday.

"Nobody wants a ground operation, and we are going to try to avoid that," Oren said, "But, again, we're going to have to take all necessary means to defend our citizens against this flagrant aggression. "

The funeral was held Thursday for Ahmed Jabari, the senior Hamas military commander, who was one of those killed in the Israeli Defense Force airstrikes.

The IDF said on its website that the three people killed were civilians in the southern Israeli town of Kiryat Malachi.

It added that 43 of the rockets from Gaza had been intercepted by its defense systems, and that it had targeted 156 "terror sites" in Gaza since the start of what it called "Operation Pillar of Defense."

"In the past 24 hours, 245 rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel," it said.

Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal on Thursday condemned the killing of Jabari.

"Men and women in Palestine, we will continue the resistance," Meshaal said at a meeting of Islamic leaders in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

The United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting late on Wednesday to discuss the Israeli assault. It called for a halt to the violence, but took no action.

Analysis: Israel, Gaza slide closer to war neither side wants

The Palestinian Authority renewed its call Thursday for the Security Council to stop attacks. (Hamas controls Gaza, not the Palestinian Authority.)

Egypt officially requested on Thursday a full meeting of the Security Council to discuss what it described as Israeli aggression, and withdrew its ambassador from Israel.

Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi said in a televised address to the nation Thursday that Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip were "unacceptable" and would lead to instability in the region.

Morsi said he had discussed "ways to reach calm and end the aggression" in a telephone conversation with U.S. President Barack Obama.

Hamas is affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood which now controls Egypt, Israel's most powerful Arab neighbor and a crucial partner in the 1979 peace treaty that stands between fragile stability and regional chaos. The Muslim Brotherhood on Thursday called for all ties with Israel to be severed.

PhotoBlog: Deadly day along Israeli-Gaza border, after Israel kills Hamas military chief

Hamas has been emboldened by the Islamist rise to power in Egypt, viewing Morsi as a "safety net" who will not permit a second Israeli thrashing of Gaza, home to 1.7 million Palestinians.

Expecting days or more of fighting, Israel warned Hamas that all its men were in its sights and dropped leaflets in Gaza telling residents to keep their distance from militants and Hamas facilities.

"The leaflets stress that Hamas is dragging the region toward violence, and that the IDF is prepared to defend the residents of the State of Israel until quiet is restored to the region," the military said in a statement.

Israel also warned its own citizens to stay off the streets.

Israel kills Hamas military chief, 7 others in airstrike, officials say

The United States condemned Hamas, shunned by the West as an obstacle to peace, for its refusal to renounce violence and recognize Israel.

The U.S. State Department on Thursday called for a de-escalation of the violence in the Middle East and placed the onus for that violence squarely on Hamas.

"There's one clear way to mitigate the tensions,” spokesperson Mark Toner said. “That is for Hamas to stop its rocket attacks on Israel so we can de-escalate the situation and end the violence. That's the clearest path."

Israel says it has already destroyed much of Gaza's longer-range rocket stockpiles. Reuters reported that Hamas had claimed it had fired a 1.1 ton, Iranian-made Fajr 5 rocket at Tel Aviv, but there was no reported impact in the Israeli city.

Few in the Palestinian territory's largest urban area, Gaza City, came out following the call for dawn prayers on Thursday, and the only vehicles plying the streets were ambulances and media cars.

About 400 angry mourners braved the streets, however, to bury Jabari, whose body was draped in the green flag of the Islamic militant Hamas movement. Some fired guns in the air and chanted, "God is Great, the revenge is coming."

When the body was brought into a mosque for funeral prayers, some tried to touch or kiss it. Others cried. BBC producer Paul Danahar posted pictures of the scene outside the mosque on Twitter.

President Barack Obama also spoke to Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as Morsi on the telephone late Wednesday.

A White House spokesman said Obama reiterated to both leaders the United States' support for Israel's right to self-defense, and agreed with Morsi on the importance of working to de-escalate the situation.

Reuters, The Associated Press, NBC News' Martin Fletcher, Ayman Mohyeldin, Catherine Chomiak and Alastair Jamieson contributed to this report.

Tweets, how can this violent moment in the Middle East be any different than the last? The Hamas rockets will continue with little or no damage to Israel. The Israelis will obliterate Hamas launching sites. The launching sites will be nestled among Gazan homes and schools. Innocent Gazans will become instant martyrs. Hezbollah will launch their own rockets, and might possibly try to cross the Lebanon-Israel border for some up close and personal terror. The Israelis will bomb Beirut. The Lebanese, with the blessing of Hezbollah, will cry murder. The only questions I have now is what will the Muslim Bro-Hood do when they see all of those Palestinian casualties? And what will Iran do when they see all of the Lebanese casulaties? This time I think that there is a real chance that the Egyptians will get directly involved and the Iranians will get indirectly involved. Maybe just involved enough that Israel will strike at them.

This could all be solved if Hamas, Hezbollah and the Iranians stopped threatening Israel's existence, and if the Israelis withdrew from the West Bank. No one can blame the Israelis for defending themselves. Its the Muslims who hate and hate and hate anyone who or anything that is not Muslim.

HonestJ,"little or no damage", No, 3 Israeli's were killed, many more in bomb shelters, and lots of property damage.I agree with most of your post. More of the bombs, from Gaza ,and their proxy "buddies" , are more advanced then before. Israel will now open up an offensive never seen before in Gaza. Syria, will contiue to burn, Eygypt will be under pressure from MB, will go to the UN, and ask that Israel stop the "agression", meanwhile closing up the border crossing even tighter with Gaza. The Sinai is in danger of exploding, so Eygyt is in a real tough bind, and everyone is watching what they do. And of course Iran, is playing with Hamas, and the sewer rat Naserallah. Even Jordon is eruping today with Protests against the King. Thankfully, Israel, no longer listens to the double speak, of those leaders who want Israel to stand down. She knows better.

It is very sensational to show images of innocent civilians cowering behind a rock. I wish this same journalist had the same courage to show the same images for people in similar situation elsewhere in the world including Palestine.

Its ironic that Egypt now with a democratically elected govt cannot be relied on anymore where the dictatorship was more sympathetic towards Israel. Syria and Jordan may be next to become more democratic, where will that leave Israel? I do hope Israel will see where the trend is for the next 10-20 years and become less militant and more diplomatic as the US may be the only country that supports Israel in the future.

This is a very critical moment for Morsi and the new government of Egypt. Are they going to be responsible international citizens and denounce Hamas for firing over 100 rockets into Israel over 5 days and provoking this response from Israel or are they going to support the terrorists of Hamas. I think we are seeing preliminary indications that Morsi is going to support the terrorists. This is borne out by his recalling of Egypt's ambassador to Egypt and his current public rhetoric in which he is trying to place the blame on Israel. I would not be surprised to see the Egyptian government abrogate the 1979 peace treaty with Israel over the next few days. Unfortunately, the Egyptian response to this flare up, which was clearly provoked by Hamas, is showing with undeniable certainty that Egypt is now firmly in the hands of Islamist fanatics and that things are going to become much more unstable in the Middle East. The only reason that Hamas has been able to build up their stockpile of rockets and longer range missiles is that the Egyptians have become complicit in their actions by not maintaining security along their border with Gaza. They have looked the other way while the Iranians supply missiles to Hamas by shipping them through Egypt. The solid embargo against weapons going into Gaza through Egypt that was in place under the previous Egyptian government is no longer in place. The Muslim Brotherhood has been given a free hand to ramp up arms shipments to Hamas through Egypt and this does not bode well for the stability of the region. I just hope that Egypt is prepared for the consequences of their actions.

Mr. Netanyahu has to be more careful? He has Syria, Hamas and Hezbollah on his borders. Israel has a right to respond to attacks. I also think the media's use of the word assassinate is wrong. The man was the military wing commander of Hamas, which took upon itself the launching of rockets into Israel. He was killed by a military op that resulted. I don't consider it an assassination; it's eye for an eye in the Arab world.

Now the Israeli responce will kill 10X the number of Palistinians. If they move in with a ground assault it will be more than 100:1 like it was in '08-'09.

Both sides will become more polarized, and peace will be more distant, while settlers appropriate more land on the west bank.

"Netanyahu has to be more careful about starting a war"

Here we go again with the typical "liberal" anti-Israel bigotry. Happens every time the "liberals'" pet islamists incite a military response. I would say that Hamas, et. al, should be more careful about starting a war, but upon second thought, war would be a win-win situation for them. They would win through their perceived "martyrdom" and again through the anti-Israel backlash from the "liberals" in the U.S. and their muslim brotherhood. (Lower case muslim brotherhood... meaning the philosophical relationship, not the Egyptian government.) Therefore, they have no incentive to be careful.

I really hate to see all the deaths and don't want war, but sometimes I wish it would all just come to a head and get it over with. Otherwise, 50 years from now our children will still be dealing with the same old problem.

The UK Guardian is doing a more complete report on this story:

Israeli airstrikes continued in Gaza today following the attack yesterday that killed Hamas’s military chief Ahmed al-Jabari. The attack came after a series of rocket attacks from Gaza into southern Israel over recent days. The Israeli army said 156 targets were hit in Gaza, 126 of them rocket launchers. Thirteen people were killed in Gaza yesterday including a pregnant woman with twins, an 11-month old boy and two infants, with 130 wounded, according to Gaza’s health ministry. A truce was not on the agenda, Israeli military spokeswoman Avital Leibovitz said. Hamas’s leader, Khaled Meshaal, vowed to “continue the resistance”. Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, who rules the West Bank but not Gaza, cut short a European trip to return to the West Bank in response to the crisis.

Three Israelis were killed by a rocket attack from Gaza, the first Israeli fatalities in the present conflict. The deaths came when a four-storey building was hit in the town of Kiryat Malachi, 15 miles (25km) north of Gaza; a four-year-old boy and two babies were also wounded. Israel said 200 rockets had struck Israel since yesterday, 135 since midnight. Eighteen rockets had been shot down today by Israel’s “iron dome” counter-missile missile system, Israel said. Hamas claimed it had fired a one-tonne rocket at Tel Aviv, but there were no reports of an impact in the city.

• Hamas declared a state of emergency in Gaza and Israel did the same in the country’s south.

Here is the MOST interesting part, especially for those of you who say Muslims "never" want peace - Natanyahu never wants peace!

'Jabari killed hours after receiving truce agreement'

Hours before Hamas military commander Ahmed al-Jabari was killed he received the draft of a permanent truce agreement with Israel, Israeli peace activist Gershon Baskin told Haaretz.

Baskin helped mediate between Israel and Hamas in the deal to release Gilad Shalit.

Baskin told Haaretz on Thursday that senior officials in Israel knew about his contacts with Hamas and Egyptian intelligence aimed at formulating the permanent truce, but nevertheless approved the assassination ...

According to Baskin, during the past two years Jabari internalised the realisation that the rounds of hostilities with Israel were beneficial neither to Hamas nor to the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip and only caused suffering, and several times he acted to prevent firing by Hamas into Israel.

He said that even when Hamas was pulled into participating in the launching of rockets, its rockets would always land in open spaces. “And that was intentional,” clarified Baskin.

In recent months Baskin was continuously in touch with Hamas officials and with Egyptian intelligence as well as with officials in Israel, whose names he refused to divulge. A few months ago Baskin showed defence minister Ehud Barak a draft of the agreement and on the basis of that draft an inter-ministry committee on the issue was established. The agreement was to have constituted a basis for a permanent truce between Israel and Hamas, which would prevent the repeated rounds of shooting.

“In Israel,” Baskin said, “they decided not to decide, and in recent months I took the initiative to push it again.”

It looks like Egypt has forgotten 1967 and 1973. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. If Egypt doesn't get their act together they will have to relearn their lessons. If Egypt and the muslim brotherhood attack, Israel will be forced to wipe out Gaza so they can focus on Egypt, Gaza could be out of the picture in half a day.

Israel started all this conflict, and Netanyahu is a war monger. If they would try being diplomatic for once in their arrogant existence, then maybe the violence would stop. The U.S. should stop supporting them. They have nukes, they have an army, and they are perfectly capable of defending themselves without our aid which they simply waste on wars. We stole the land of Israel from its at-the-time rightful owners, and now we reap what we sowed. Let it all burn and let's get out of the middle east.

This war started pre 2000 you idiot. I refer to the entire Israeli war with Palestine. Israel struck first with no provocation. they've killed without remorse hundreds of times the number of muslims (mainly innocents too, which is barbaric) as Israelis killed by all the factions now at war with Israel. It's disgusting to say they are defending themselves when they are conquering more land, bulldozing it, and building new villages in place of what is traditionally arab land and what used to be shared land. Israel is fully accountable for this, and they may even be partially accountable for 9-11 because we supported their state's creation and built their military.

Not shown yet on US networks is that Hamas have just fired long range Iranian rockets at Tel Aviv. I think this is the turning point. Israel is calling up 30,000 reservists and soon a full scale incursion into the West Bank is inevitable. This time they will no doubt endeavor to crush Hamas. Due to Egyptian uncertainties I would expect them to parachute into southern Gaza to close off escape routes.

When a state kills someone without a trial or due process, it is murder. State sponsored murder is still murder. When you blow up a car full of people to murder one that is multiple counts of murder.

Israel is a rogue state by any reasonable definition. Time for America to stop blocking security council sanctions against them.

Killing 100 for every one you lose (like Israel did in operation Cast Lead dec'08-jan'09) is what the nazis did when attacked by the resistance.

Killing 100 for every one you lose (like Israel did in operation Cast Lead dec'08-jan'09) is what the nazis did when attacked by the resistance.

Sorry, not the same. Just because palestinians are inept terrorists Israel should purposely miss their targets and stop taking out terrorists when they reach a certain quota?

"OK guys, stop shooting. We got our bag limit. We now have to wait until they get lucky and kill a couple more of ours before we return fire."

This is almost like Netanyahu saying; damn, I couldn't get Romney elected to start a war with Iran, so, I'll take the long way around, start a couple of small wars that will lead to Iran, and by then, maybe I'll be able to sucker President Obama to send American boys, and girls to fight for Israel.

Netanyahu, is that your plan?

To all you anti-Israeli extremists, I have a question: If a hostile enemy in the Caribbean launched 100 rockets at south Florida over the course of 5 days, what do you suppose the U.S. response would be, and what do you think it should be.

I doubt America would ask Israel to help, we would take care of our own business.

Arab Spring = U.S. (et al) support = Egyptian Rebels = Egytpian government overthrown = Muslim Brotherhood President

Wait a minute.....Hamas charter:

Article Two: The Link between Hamas and the Association of Muslim Brothers. The Islamic Resistance Movement is one of the wings of the Muslim Brothers in Palestine.

http://www.thejerusalemfund.org/www.thejerusalemfund.org/carryover/documents/charter.html

Charter also calls for the destruction of Israel.

I wonder what the Secretary of State is discussing with her Deputy Chief of Staff about the recent events between Israel and Hamas:

Although President Obama lavishly praised her over the weekend as an "American patriot," a manifesto commissioned by the ruling Saudi Arabian monarchy effectively places the work of an institute that employed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's deputy chief of staff at the forefront of a grand plan to mobilize U.S. Muslim minorities to transform America into a Saudi-style Islamic state, according to an Arabic-language researcher.

I doubt America would ask Israel to help, we would take care of our own business.

ahh where did Israel ask us to help them, you think they cant handle Gaza? the problem1)hypothetically that if a Caribbean nation starting shooting 20 rockets a day at us we would be able to handle it but Israel couldn't without our help. 2) when Israel does handle it there will be all this outcry because all those "innocents" that fraternize with and allow the terrorists to hide among them will be collateral damage. But when we do it with a drone that is ok. Guess what in both cases it is ok. If you don't want to be associated with, or killed with terrorists, don't fraternize with them.

Yes, this is political, but its roots stem from the worship of imaginary men.

Have you ever seen Abe Lincoln? ... well of course you haven't he was way before your time. But of course I would say you even admire what you have heard and read about him. Some people would say they even worship him.

Now, how is this a bad thing? What errors of humanity and/or world events does this admiration/worship exhort?

Any society will fight to protect what they believe in, what they stand for if it is threatened by an outside source.

Your code language of "imaginary men" was a thin veil for putting God on trial for causing wars between people. People don't fight because of another persons belief in God, they fight when they think their right to worship him themselves is threatened, or the land where they live to worship him is threatened.

But I do respect your right to be a free thinker and provocateur of God's right to exist.

Did the story report about the 8 Palestinian civilians killed by the Israeli attacks (Including 3 children and one pregnant woman) ?

Do they report about the 21 Israeli civilians killed by Hamas attacks in the last 10 years in contrast to the over 1500 Palestinian CHILDREN killed by Israeli attacks since 2000 ?

Both sides are wrong for their violence and killing of innocent civilians, but to think and believe Palestine is the sole aggressor, and Israel is just defending themselves is ridiculous when you have ALL the information.

No Ray, the disease is Zionism, a disease that makes the people afflicted, believe they are entitled to take land and water from those that have been living in the region for thousands of years. The disease makes them believe they can kill those that oppose the theft of their lands and the assasination of their leaders.

The land belonged mostly to Arabs, before Eastern European Jews came to sieze their land and drive the Arab population out of 1/2 of their land. These fools actually think the people should have gladly given up their towns and farms to accomodate Jews from Russia.

Such a deal - you give me 1/2 of what you own and I will recognize your right to live on the remainder, as long as you recognize my right to keep what was yours.

"If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel.
It is normal; we have taken their country. It is true God promised it to us,
but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been Anti -
Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault ? They see but
one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept
          that?"

David Ben Gurion (first Israeli PM, quoted by Nahum Goldmann
in Le Paraddoxe Juif (The Jewish Paradox), pp121.

"We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and
the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab
          population."

          Israel Koenig, "The Koenig Memorandum"

"Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not
even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because
geography books no longer exist. Not only do the books not exist, the Arab
villages are not there either. Nahlal arose in the place of Mahlul; Kibbutz
Gvat in the place of Jibta; Kibbutz Sarid in the place of Huneifis; and Kefar
Yehushua in the place of Tal al-Shuman. There is not a single place built in
this country that did not have a former Arab population."

Israel needs to be taken down a few pegs from their self-entitled, arrogant pedestal. They have nukes and an army. The U.S. should drop its aid and let the warmongers duke it out. We should never have interfered in the middle east. The Taliban never would have existed, and extremists never could have warped the very peaceful religion of islam into a war tool. Western civilization did this. Arrogance did this. Now let humility undo it.

Ray, here is the bottom line , you and the Pali's are just pawns for the Arabs, and the MB to use as they control their countries with an iron fist. Syria burning, 10's of thousands killed, yet Iran, and Eygypt and Naressrallah set up shop with Hezbahah, and Hamas, Lob bombs into Israel, and the Pali's pay the price. The media, shifts gears right to Israel, and the Arab Leauge calls another emergency meeting. The funnest is when comments like mis approprate retailation by Israel. No not enough, stop messing with Israel, build up Gaza into a beautiful place, with great beaches, and your women wearing bikini's with cool burkas and enjoy what you have. Eygypt should open their borders to Gaza, and free trade, and vacation in the Hilton that was built. But, no, Arab country wants that, as it will shine a light onto all the abuse, and corruption of their people.Recently on CNBC, a Saudi Prince was on, and he has a large stake in Bank of America. When asked about the Bank, and problems, didn't mention, mismanagement, Greed, guess what he said is the biggest issue, The Israeli -Pali problem, Now we can't be that stupid to believe that, oh wait....

Ralph H is well known for his virulent anti-Israel sentiments Eric. He repeatedly quotes reams and reams of 'stuff' denigrating those of Jewish extraction, which is his right I suppose.

I must say I was a little suprised that he came out of the woodwork on this occasion without his trusty deputy Henrich von Dorf riding shotgun.

The pair of them are usually on the trail together, as I'm sure Mossad is well aware.

The progressive apologists for the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas seem to think Israel is the aggressor. They have learned over the years overwhelming response is the only defense against a people who plot their very destruction and want to commit genocide against the Israeli's. I just wonder how tolerant the progressives would actually be given their hateful and antisemitic comments if they were the target of this kind of daily murder for no reason?

Believe what you want...history tells a different story going back before the kingdom of Babylon. Israel was a nation long before there was any talk of a people called the Palestinians who are not actually a race but a group of malcontents that have been thrown out of other nations. If the middle east descends into all-out war with Israel, so be it. They stewed in their arrogance long enough anyway.

jw - Israel is supposed to get the TAPI gas pipeline, which will transport Israeli owned gas from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan to Pakistan and on to India. That is the big reason we had 9/11, the excuse to go to Afgnaistan and rid it of the Taliban, who opposed the TAPI pipeline.

Oil companies proposed the pipeline in 1995, but
it dropped off their agenda after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan the
following year. The plan was revived after the United States-led invasion of
Afghanistan in 2001, and received backing from the Asian Development Bank,
                          which financed feasibility studies.

                          Iran can
sell gas to India at a third the price of Turkmenistan. This is the ENTIRE
issue. In Turkmenistan Israel holds the lease rights to sell this gas and US
companies are building the pipeline called TAPI. This has gotten Iran upset and
that is what the whole reason for petroleum sanctions. We have US military
holding the Taliban at bay in the North all the while prince and his private
paramilitary mercenary forces are executing pipeline security privately in the
South to lend some sort of propriety to this whole sham of a war. Americans
should demand presidential head on a platter for this fraud. Deni-ability is
                          everything.

                          On December 11, a
preliminary agreement was signed in Turkmenistan’s capital, Ashgabat, by
representatives of the four countries to proceed with plans for the American
and Israeli-backed pipeline. Here are the basic points about the TAPI pipeline:

                          Construction of
pipeline will be completed by 2014 (▼)

                          1,680 kilometer gas
pipeline will supply 3.2 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day (much of
this gas will come from Israeli/Mossad-owned gas fields in Turkmenistan,
meaning immense profits for the Mossadniks who pulled of 9/11)............►The Obama
administration, elected on the promise to withdraw U.S. troops by July 2011,
now says the U.S. will maintain combat troops in Afghanistan until December
2014. On December 17, the House passed a defense authorization bill (by a
341-48 vote) that authorizes the Pentagon to spend more than $160 billion on
the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2011 without major restrictions on the
conduct of operations. Why are U.S. (and NATO) troops being kept in Afghanistan
for another 4 years? What's really going on there? What is the cost and who is
                          involved in this game??

                          The real
reason for the U.S. invasion and occupation of Afghanistan is to build and
secure a 1,080-mile long gas pipeline designed to carry trillions of dollars of
Israeli-owned gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India. You could ask how
come Turkmenistans gas could be Israeli-owned, here is the answer:

                          Following the
break-up of the Soviet Union, Israeli agents sought to gain control of the
strategic assets of the newly independent Soviet republics. In mineral-rich
Turkmenistan, a Mossad agent named Yosef A. Maiman was very successful in
gaining control of the republic's immense resources of natural gas. Yosef
Maiman, born in Germany in 1946, grew up in Peru and studied in the United
States before becoming an Israeli citizen in 1971. As an agent of Israeli
intelligence, Maiman heads a network of Mossad-controlled companies that serve
Israeli interests. As the chief executive of the Merhav Group, Maiman has
controlled the development of Turmenistan's gas resources. Maiman's key
colleagues at Merhav are the former head of the Mossad, Shabtai Shavit, and
Nimrod Novik, chief adviser to Shimon Peres, the current president of Israel.

                          Maiman was described
as "a leading miner" of Central Asian gas fields by the Jerusalem
Post in 2004. Given their control of the immense gas resources of Turkmenistan,
Maiman, Merhav, and the "Mossad" would all profit if and when the
U.S.-led coalition were able to "pacify" and control Afghanistan so
that the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline could be
built allowing the gas of Turkmenistan to be sold to energy-hungry India . The TAPI pipeline
project would bring billions of dollars into "Mossad" coffers every
year. This is the real reason for the war in Afghanistan and why the
Zionist-controlled Obama administration has increased the war effort in Central
Asia. It has nothing to do with terrorism or 9-11.

                          Now you
can easily understand why there was need for the "justification" of
this war, which was planned before the 9/11
                          (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/1550366.stm). The false-flag terror
attacks of 9/11 were part of a strategic Israeli operation to bring the U.S.
military into Afghanistan on a long-term mission on behalf of Israel’s Turkmen
gas enterprise. The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline is
the real reason that U.S. soldiers are killing and dying in the southwestern
Afghan provinces of Helmand and Kandahar. 9/11 was just the cover story for
this pre-planned war of aggression - and it is nothing but a complete hoax.

Now you know that Israel had much to gain from 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan.

Actually Israelis report it in ambiguous words: "three killed by direct hit"

IDF refueses to provide video evidence of rocket fire from Gaza.

Over the past 5 hours Israeli ( or given present state of media rather Western funded media outlest reporting on Israel in English language, whoo that was long one ) information media allowing blogger comments deletet entire set of articles where video evidence of rocket strikes was demanded.

More than that, given precarious situation of present time sitting Israeli PM, Benjamen Netaneyahoo, who is facing elections due to no - confidence vote passed in Israeli Knesset on one hand, his policies being mostly funded by Sheikh of Saudi Arabia on the other hand, and his recent attempts to threaten his most likely competitor with prosecution on frivolous charges, it is extremely likely that Gaza provocation is a fodder for attack on Iran to surrptitiously and mendaciously seize hold on office by sitting high ranking Israeli official.

Even worse is that Israel has proven technology to stop any rockets from Gaza cold, the Iron Dome, Benjamen Netaneyahoo defunded the program and over 4 years in office denied Israel to add even 1 functioning Iron Dome battery in addition to initial prototype built out of 3 Iron Dome batteries.

                              Given

                              a. obviously calculated decision to expose own citizens to harm

                              b. continuous denial of defence to civilians over a number of years

                              and

                              c. extremely unbecoming conduct of media outlets responcible for public information

I'd can say with 99% certainty that this is complete sham from start to end. With a few people killed to justify the brainwashing on TV screens.

                              Watch your skies Iranians.

What in the world are you even talking about? Your information could not be more false. I just laugh when "experts" like you who have never even been here, probably never even met an Israeli, start spouting off at the mouth. As someone living in Ashkelon, I can tell you with certainty that the bombs are raining down on us and they come from Gaza. Go to the IDF website, the news, even personal videos posted on youtube and you can see plenty of footage of missiles coming in. Nobody here doutbs for a second where they come from, we see them coming in! Secondly, Netanyahu (that is how you spell his name) has not defunded the Iron Dome project. Nor would our govt release info on how many we have or where they are exactly, as that is it not a smart thing to do, would you not agree? Right now Iron Dome is the one thing making life livable here. It is the BEST tax money I have ever spent, hands down. Thirdly, whether there is an election or not, Netanyahu is responding to an escalation of fire from Gaza including an attack over a week ago that injured 4 soldiers - one who lost an arm and will be crippled for the rest of his life. Before Israel killed (cleanly and surgically I might add, unlike what Gaza does to us) Jabari there had been a week of steady missile fire - over 100 in just a few days. So no matter how much conspiracy you'd like to make up or how you want to spin it, those are the facts.

I would say with 99% certainty that you are kidding yourself. Other branches are firing into Israel, not Hamas themselves, Israel is holding Hamas to account no matter who fired the rockets, they have been told this prior to the attacks on their leaders.

Your post is rife with paranoid delusions. I do not say this lightly.

Going back to [Actually Israelis report it in ambiguous words: "three killed by direct hit"]

I just checked the distance from Kiriat Malakhi, town where 3 Israelis were killed by "direct hit", and Gaza.

It looks more than 20 kilometers, though civilian maps are very imprecise.

Based on media reports Hamas rockets range, usually, limited to 20.

Even if media reports on Hamas armaments are "spotty" if you check communities oft reported under attack. those are well within range of 10 kilometers.

Not one independent journalist is reporting on the ground to verify who launched the rocket that killed Israelis.

Let's, for the sake of argument, assume for a moment that I am paranoid and such... have you ever seeing this level of un - professional reporting coming from Israel in conflicts?

Just one fact regarding normal Israeli conduct, when 40 people died in tragic explosion in one house in Lebanon in June of 2006 Israel sent in UAV to collect evidence, as to what have caused an explosion and to have verifiable information regarding casualties and the timings.

Again, to compare, 6 hours since the tragedi in Kiriat Malakhi today, not one independent reporter index touched the place where any clearly thinking man would have valid reasons to suspect that the tragedy could have being result of IDF own fire. At least to debunk such a possibility.

Islamist Hamas was not firing into Israel. Now they are involved, but other factions working independent of them were firing into Israel earlier int the week . This does not matter to Israel the Islamist Hamas is in charge, and they are being held accountable.

Hamas was trying to have more stability in Gaza to show Egypt they can maintain stability. They have no control over other factions, now they are in the fight because of accountabiltiy to control the Gaza and these other factions.

You call others liars and me white trash. This shows you lack integrity, and disregard all other opinions except your own.

To even suggest the IDF fired on their own people is ludicrous. This is truly a paranoid delusion.

Leslie, while I agree with you to an extent, your government is killing civilians and destroying lives on the other side on a much larger scale.

You speak about life in Israel while under attack, do you consider life for a Palestinian civilian while under attack from Israeli military ? I've seen footage of both, and while nobody should have to live under that threat and fear, it's MUCH worse on the other side of the fence for those people.

21 Israeli's have been killed by Hamas attacks in the last 10 years. Close to 1500 CHILDREN alone have been killed by Israeli attacks since 2000.

All those lives are valuable, Israeli and Palestinian civilians alike. But to pretend your government is innocent and just responding and defending is naive.

The assault on Gaza will be "renewed" in the coming hours, Haaretz quotes an IDF source as saying, and the Israeli military leadership has "approved plans for the next stage of the operation."

It is unclear whether "the next stage" refers to ground action, intensified air and naval strikes or another mode of attack.

IDF officer Avichay Adraee tweets a picture of IDF ground forces making preparations on the Gaza "perimeter" in what looks like an early morning or late afternoon shot.

Looks like the Palestinians will be enclosed, denied medical supplies from Red Crescent (Red Cross here), they have had water restrictions for years as the Israelis drained the large aquifer under Gaza.

The common people of both Israel and Gaza do not want their families killed - why does Netanyahu want it so much? Ex Mossad leader Dier thinks he is crazy (Netanyahu)

                              Hey "Tzar" Tyler,

what part of it did you find in violation of the following rule:

Above all else, respect others. Address issues and arguments and refrain from making personal attacks.

If you aren't sure what White Trash means, here is Wikipedia:

"white trash" emphasizes the person's moral failings.

There is nothing disrespectfull about it. And if you keep taking sides with people who act in gangs on this forum, swatting on information they deem undesired by using slurs, defamation, and name calling I will include you in this pile of dung, face forward.

Your tool of being a moderator is a great advantage, but the site gives advantage to the user by offering me as many accounts as I deem nesessary to fight for my words. So, be carefull how you use it. You have unlimited money, I got brains.

What in the world are you even talking about? Your information could not be more false. I just laugh when "experts" like you who have never even been here, probably never even met an Israeli, start spouting off at the mouth. As someone living in Ashkelon, I can tell you with certainty that the bombs are raining down on us and

                                1. Netaneyahoo blocked and defunded Iron Dome building

-- there is additional information regarding this point.

-- I was caught on a lie ( I admit it! ). Over the past 4 years in office Netaneyahoo did add Iron Dome battery.

                                -- Exactly 1 ( one ) Iron Dome battery.

-- Going back 4 years, Livni / Olmert ( previous PM duo ) built 4 of those as a pilot, with no blueprints or funding in 8 months ( don't you think there is at least a bit of a difference? Eh? )

-- So, your question "Nor would our govt release info on how many we have or where they are exactly, as that is it not a smart thing to do, would you not agree?"

-- I will let answer Israeli PM himself, freshly out of PM Office ( Israelis call PMO ).

-- "To strengthen Israel we have funded an additional Iron Dome battery. Its deployment will be expedited. Right now the battery is deployed on in a test military installation. Instead of deploying it in 2 months, as was originally planned I will request our governemtn and IDF deploys it in the next 2 weeks."

-- Why don't you square this one away with your government of Israel, Leslie. Why don't you also find a normal PM who

                                a. agrees with your stated principle of "release info on how many we have or where they are exactly, as that is it not a smart thing to do". Or would you prefer all Mirons shut up while said PM sits in high office and does as he/she pleases without being critisized ( again, unless you and the Co' say so? )

                                and

                                b. builds Iron Dome ( at least with the speed of Olmert / Livni? )

                                2. He received vote of no confidence in Knesset

                                3. media denies video evidence of rocket fire from Gaza dating 24 hours back

                                4. IDF high command denied attack on Iran

What part of it do you find paranoid? You want to win it by slapping yarmulka in my face?

I am talking about "the world" we are living in. Your are laughin in the face of facts.

The IDF started this war, and they should fight it alone without U.S. aid.

Oh yeah - The IDF is a bunch of yellow cowards, who will only fight when they are attacking unarmed women and children. The IDF is a poor excuse for a military, who was whipped by a smaller force of Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon. Israel has done their job, keeping the Palestinians unarmed, so their chicken s-t war heros can come back as victors, unlike when they came home from Lebanon as whipped dogs.

Ralph, as usual thank you for you usual expert military observations regarding Israel! (note sarcasm) Oh, by the way, how does hundreds of rockets coming across from Gaza into Israeli residential areas (despite a cease fire/truce that both Hamas and Israel agreed to) over a few days time constitute unarmed Palestinians? And don't tell me it was in retaliation because Israel knocked off a Hamas militant commander. That happened after the rocket firing started which started the initial response by Israel. Both sides are wrong here and have to step back. There's enough blood on the hands of both sides already. Israel and Hamas both just need to step back now!

Not only that, Moped, but this:

Iranians are NOT a Semitic - much less a Semantic - people. They are, in fact, the original Aryans. The words 'Aryan' and 'Iran' are actually cognate.

Ironically enough, the bulk of Israel's population, hailing as they do from the largely Eastern European countries of the Jewish Diaspora, cannot claim Semitic ancestry either, even though they speak a Semitic language. After all, Americans speak a Germanic language, even though only a small percentage of us claim German ancestry. The Arabs, Palestinians, Lebanese, Syrians, Jordanians, Iraqis, and Egyptians are Semitic peoples. The Israelis (and Turks and Iranians) are, for the most part, not. Thus the term 'anti-Semitic' has to rank as one of the cruelest misnomers of all time. Given their harsh, tyrannical treatment of their Palestinian 'citizens', one could argue that the Israelis - and not their Arab neighbors - are the true anti-Semites! Oy, Adolph, what were you thinking!?

Now there is a good example of SEMANTICS!

I like the part of this article that doesn't seem to offer a shred of sympathy for the Palestinian side of the conflict - yet affords to utterly gush over the acknowledged terrible death of Israeli civilians.

War's tragic. Death, very much so. War serves no real ppurpose for the average person. War is no longer fought for any sort of necessity - but because certain individuals that occupy a seat of power willingly decided to start a war.

Even though there are sscientifically and time-tested measures which have been statistically quantified that seem to best encourage lasting Peace. I am referencing Daniel Byman and Barbra Walter.

... Neglecting to mention the Goldstein Report, the numerous invasions and unilateral bombings of Israel into nearly all it's surrounding neighbors is a bit on the nose, don't you think, Mister or Miss NBC News "Journalist" ...?

A bit "one-sided"? ... Which could possibly be construed of bias or showing favoritism to a particular belief or ideology?

                                            Centuries of ethics, morality, philosophy...

The development of the League of Nations and then, eventually, the United Nations.

And you're still tooting your little horn for one side and one side only.

                                            *winks*

I earnestly await the inevitable twisting of reality and / or facts that paints the Palestinians or Iranians (who ironically are Semantic by race) ... as vile evil creatures that are less human than the Israelis.

I would also be amused by those who think it is okay for the Israeli government to provoke war while knowingly endangering and jeopardizing American service members.

Because the Israeli Government - and not it's people - seem to be some sort of Ultra-Right leaning war-obsessed Pharaohs that more closely represent Mongol Warlords than Jews escaping Egypt these days.

War is no longer fought for any sort of necessity -

With all of the terrorist groups that border Israel, like Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade and more, and the rest of the Muslims who hate everything that is not Muslim, I think the Israelis use their military to ensure their own survival as a nation and a people. Survival is a necessity. The Muslims must stop transforming their hatred into terror and murder. They don't have to like the Israelis, just leave them the f*ck alone.

Moped - Ah- to answer your question honestly, I would have to guess that you are looking for HonestJ to say, Israel. Israel seems to have a vast nuclear arsonal and a thirst for territory that does not beling to them. They also tend to kill unwanted Arabs at will and do not care very much for a two state solution. All this by the grace of Allah! Israel is a strong nation because that is the will of Allah. The murderous cult of Islam has been praying to Allah for 64 plus years for the destruction of Israel, and Allah keeps making Israel even stronger. Praise be to Allah and her glorious VAGINA. Long Live Israel!!!!!!

Peace to you and a piece for me. Amen!

Let's try an experiment: Tell your buddies to stop lobbing the missiles into Israel and let's see how long it takes for Israel to get bored and go blow up some Muslims.

Question: If 245 rockets were fired into the United States from Mexico would you want a military response?

The progressive apologists for the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas seem to think Israel is the aggressor. They have learned over the years overwhelming response is the only defense against a people who plot their very destruction and want to commit genocide against the Israeli's. I just wonder how tolerant the progressives would actually be given their hateful and antisemitic comments if they were the target of this kind of daily murder for no reason?

By the way tell me a people that has experianced the level of hatred and genocide over the generations like the Jews / Israeli's? If you had that in your history would you respond as they do to protect themselves and their nation?

Anyone here care to talk about the Israeli Terrorists groups that actively drove the Arabs from Israeli? ... Zionism? The deliberate effort to claim that land for the Jews that created hundreds of thousands of Arab refugees? ...

No? That's not real history because you say it's not history with your big expensive News Outlet?..

Except that if you talk to anyone who actually studied this stuff - it's a bit harder to convince people with Lies?

                                            ...

Or am I just a "sympathizer" and a "Terrorist lover" cause I happen to know a little bit about history and I'm not part of the Borg Collective that repeats the same tired Record-Recording that bashes anyone who dares to resist being run over a by a Steam Roller that is "Israeli Foreign Relations" ...?

                                            I don't hate Israeli.

I just think that the Leaders of Israeli are obsessed with this bizzare "Old World" fixation with Machiavellian leadership. They've got it in their heads that Lying, Cheating, and Murder is the only way to get things down.

Maybe that was so. ... in the fu_king DARK AGES.

But the fact of the matter is ... that you can only "tell so many lies" and try to steal so much "gold and silver" from the goy. ...

Jewish re-production rates are down ... did you know that? ... The Jews are actually dying off. Muslims are re-producing at about ten times the rates as Jews. That's not a joke.

Even the Jewish people don't seem to support the Israeli government anymore - because it's -obsessed- with war. ... because it's -obsessed- with lying about everything to the point that it operates in some sort of reality Vacuum.

And the really sad thing is that if Israel would just -stop- arming itself to the teeth, would show just an inkling of legitimate GOOD WILL ... by sending FOOD, and TEACHERS, and -LOVE- to their "enemies" ... maybe their ENEMIES would stop being their enemies.

Why would you -attack- someone that isn't showing you any hostility at all? Why would you attack someone that is doing nothing more than showing you peace?

You want the United Nations to start backing Israeli? ... Get rid of the weapons. Lose the "Terminator" attitude. Give other nations a reason to -love- you instead of hating you.

You want the Arabs people to turn on Hamas and Hezbolla? ... Give them a reason to hate Hamas and Hezbolla. Start up charities -WITHOUT the Mossad operatives. Start showing some -CHARITY- without any ulterior motive or being SNEAKY.

FRINDS ... HELP... FRIENDS. ... And when people work together - like building a boat, or trying to build a city - they build that city a lot more effectively if they are WORKING TOGETHER.

You want "GOLD AND SILVER" .. ? ... Thats what you want, right? "GOLD AND SILVER" ... yeah?

Then stop thinking in terms of "GOY" ... start thinking in terms of everyone is HUMAN. And once you get over that DARK AGE concept - you will make more "Gold & Silver" than you can ever imagine.

You don't want the world to end in some sort of apocalyptic Nuclear Dooms Day where EVERYONE is dead - including both the Jews and the "goy" ... ? ... Do you REALLY think all the gold and silver in the world will "save" you from a nuclear apocalypse? ... Even with all the Gold and Silver you want - with thousands of "goy" serving you - this ISN'T the DARK AGES.

Oppenheimer and Einstein (a JEW)'s contribution of the NUCLEAR WARHEAD technology sort of -equalized- everything. It won't -matter- if you have a bunker. It won't -matter- if you have all the power in the world.

If M.A.D. kicks in, we are ALL dead. ... and either you people can CHOSE to keep pushing this "Divide Everyone against Everyone" attitude ... or you can learn to COOPERATE and LOVE each-other and drop this OLD WORLD concept that should have -died- fifty years ago.

THAT'S what this all boils down to.

Projected LONG TERM survival of HUMANITY, not just the JEWS vs. the "GOY" ... okay?

Stop -INVENTING- "facts" and start LISTENING to what the data ACTUALLY says.

Stop -INVENTING- what you WANT TO SEE or what you WANT TO HAPPEN ... and LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING.

JEWISH reproduction rates are DOWN - they are not HIGH ENOUGH to sustain the race.

ARAB and MUSLIM reproduction rates are TEN TIMES that of what they need to be to survive. They will OUT NUMBER virtually -everyone- with enough time.

WHITE AMERICAN'S birth rates are DOWN. They will be surpassed by MINORITIES within approximately ten-to-twenty years.

THAT's the long term future ahead of you folks. And it's a result of your "leaders" clinging to some Dark Age mentality that should have been brushed into the dust bin of history long ago - but wasn't and was in fact -preserved- by a Cabal of completely insane dinosaurs.

HONESTJ and others, one should never try to argue logic and common sense with narrow minded myopic hatemongers like Moped. It is an exercise in futility and thus not worth it! They have the mistaken impression that by using enlarged and/or bold faced lettering, people will pat attention to them. They can't figure out that the reverse is actually true!

It is obvious that Moped has one hit one too many walls while riding his moped in Gaza. He is not an American and is still living in 'The Dark Ages'. His writing reflects about a 3rd century mentality. As long as gullible Muslims keep strapping on suicide vests ( population control device) they will not take over anything.

Why is it that the anti-islamist come up with most of the facts and that most of the pro-islamist just come up with insults.

                                              It makes you wonder.

No, the Israelis are no angels! But the Hamas garbage is bent on having their own innocent people decimated. Why don't they instead try to build something up in the West Bank and Gaza to become self-sufficient. They are just sitting on their lazy butts and wait for the world to feed them! They have to wait an awful long time for the manna from heaven.

Larue Lindsay, since you obviously know nothing about Islam, you should stick to a topic you actually know something about. This isn't it.

Mary Jones, it appears to me that one of Gaza's borders is the ocean. About 25 miles of ocean front. Is Israel blocking their shipping too?

Those poor Palestinians, while completely backed by all Arabs and their big oil money and their "Death to Israel" rants, they still cannot win a war or gain any of "their" land back. It appears to me that Palestine is about to get smaller again and Israel may get ocean front property. To the victor go the spoils. It is always a good practice to never start a fight you cannot win. I really feel sorry for these people as they are too unintelligent, uniformed or being lied to by their government to realize they are being used by a terrorist organization and all of their Arab brothers.

Superskunk -- Actually, I know a lot about Islam as I am the New and Improved Prophet of Allah "PutPorkOnYourFork" is my Muslim name and I spent 40 days and 40 nights inside Allah's vagina learning all about the will of Allah. She told me herself that Mohammed got it all wrong and that he was never a real prophet, but just another sex crazed maniac who likes to have sex with children of both sexes.

Seven, that is horribly ignorant. Yemen, the Israelis, started this war years ago, not the muslims. Israel has become arrogant and warmongering and should collapse for such atrocities they impart onto innocent civilians.

Patrick, when you randomly (not at a military target) fire a rocket into another country, you cease to be able to call yourself a civilian. Apparently none of these people are civilized. No one has the right to fire upon someone without provocation and then cry when they receive return fire. Your children's blood is on your own hands.

You drive your car with reckless abandon and hit a tree. Your child dies in the accident. You blame the company that built the car? Or was it the tree's fault?

The Canaanites. Go find some. And they took it from other unnamed peoples.

Then it was the Jews. They were forcibly expelled by the Babylonians, returned, and then were expelled again by the Romans.

I'm not going to bother getting into a history lesson with you, you'd deny it anyway. And you are not worth the time or the effort. You and those who think like you are to be ignored and impeded. Just enjoy the fact that the Jewish homeland lives, prospers despite your most fervent desires, and will continue to receive the complete support of myself and those who think like me, regardless of the existence of those such as yourself.

                                                    A. Bennett, Let's be fair here, Israel does not exclude men in their bombardment of Arabs, They are just as willing to kill men as much as women and children when it comes to Arabs. Are you suggesting that this is a bad thing?

The cult of Islam has been attacking Israel for 64 years now and this will never stop as long as Jihad is the only path to paradise, or until Israel decides to get tough and put an end to the evil-doers who worship a false prophet.

Israel attacked them first long ago and started this war, and now they starve the palestinians while conquering more territory, tearing it down, and rebuilding it for the Israeli populace. Israel should be convicted of war crimes. And we should drop all federal aid to Israel until they cool off and start being diplomatic again.

Both sides are equally as bad, and to blame for this ongoing violence. Playing tit4tat is a never ending circle, that will only escalate if it continues. Both sides are constantly tossing threats.

Both sides have legit grievances, and making peace takes compromise and sacrifice. Which is far less a sacrifice than the lost lives war will inflict on them all. Be careful what you wish for.

If I have to pick a side in this, Ill pick the underdogs, the Palestinians. I have to give them credit for their determination in the face of such superior forces. They dont even have a real military. And although their tactics have been wrong on every level, terrorism and violence is never okay, and certainly hasnt gotten them any results. But their basic complaint has merit. Israel, along with the rest of the world, did kick them out of their homeland. They arent doing anything I wouldnt do if I were in their shoes and some foreign army came in and took away my country and forced me into reservations basically. I dont find their behavior surprising at all to be honest. Israel should be bending over backwards to get along and make peace. Sooner or later it will come back to bite them hard if they dont.

"Tit4Tat" is, actually, an extremely elaborate and effective theory which ultimately eliminates Hostile and Overly Aggressive parties while rewarding and promoting cooperation and inter-personal relationships.

It's a theory that you don't seem to understand or know much about.

Wrong freedom, there is no moral or legal equivalence between the sides - one is right and one is wrong.

The Jews are right, the Arabs are wrong. Not a debatable point.

The Arabs are not wrong. Yes Israel is there to stay. But I cant blame the Arabs not liking it. Not because im against Jewish people. I just see it from all sides. How would your react if the UN took your state and gave it to someone? And kicked you to a reservation basically, and then set up blockade.

More needs to be done for the Palestinians, if you take their land they need fair compensation.

The CIA sex scandal won't interest anyone unless there are sinfully interesting photos. This is just a news cycle that will be replaced in 24 to 48 hours unless the Egyptians, Hezbollah, Syrians or Iranians get involved. Then you can add another 48 hours. If Tehran is bombed by the Israelis, it might last a week. If Jerusalem, with all of its holy sites, is bombed, then this thing will have a much longer media shelf-life.

They don't want to go back to the first century want these same Arabs conspired with the Romans to remove the Jews from the land and steal this land originally. They don't want to go back 60 or 70 years to when the Arab leaders conspired with Hitler to commit genocide on the Jewish people and steal their land. When will you people learn these conflicts are not 100 or 200 years old, they go back thousands of years. One side take the land and the other side wants it. There has never, ever been a country called Palestine. This place was ruled as part of a British protector colony and before that as part of the Ottoman Empire. So there never was or has been a Palestinian state until now

They are too busy polishing their Hitler statues to notice that everytime one of these little short conflicts pops up, it is the Arabs who always get their rears kicked. When will these Arabs learn that as long as Israel rules the skies over the Middle East, there is only death and destruction in store from one of these armed conflicts. If they think Iran will do anything, they are sorely mistaken. With all the bluster of the Iranian leaders, they know the Israeli air force and nuclear weapons would turn Iran into a parking lot if they tried any direct movement against Israel. They have been threatening Israel for over 30 years since the Shah left. The only thing they can do is threaten and fund terrorism. For every one Israeli who they kill, hundreds of Palestinians either die or are seriously injured.

                                                                      Wasn't true in 1948, 1956, 1967 or 1973, either.

uka, when God pours out his wrath upon an unbelieving people, I can guarantee you it won't be the Christians jumping off the high buildings. It will be those with no promise of eternal life because they denied Him. When all hell breaks loose, you will probably be one of the first to jump.

And I'm sure you eagerly await such a day. Too bad, for you, that such things are nonsense.

Yes, Arabs were displaced when Israel was recognized as a state in 1948. However, for those arguing that Hamas is justified in launching rockets into Israel because of events that took place in 1948, are wrong. There is a long history in this region, which has seen it's share of bloodshed and exchange of powers. Today, Israel is recognized by the international community as a sovereign state. They have a right to defend that territory.

A rough analogy would be a sudden uprising by Native American tribes in the United States. If they had access to rocket technology and began firing them at major cities, like New York, Chicago, or Seattle, one cannot say they are justified for doing so because of events that took place long ago. It is simply absurd to think it would be. Until the United States collapses, dissolves, or is taken over by a competing power, it has a right to defend it's territories - just as Israel does.

Note: I'm not saying that the United States and Israel are without fault, obviously. But the displacement and removal of a wide variety of cultures is, unfortunately, the reality of the world throughout human history. Hell, Spain's conquest of the new world was arguably the most damaging, resulting in a terrible loss of life both in terms of arms and the spread of disease - wiping out hundreds of millions of indigenous peoples over the course of several centuries. It is sad, but it is in the past. Fighting wars over events that took place in the past is not justifiable.

Israel defending it's land because of events taking place today IS justifiable.

                                                                        #19.6 - Thu Nov 15, 2012 11:59 PM EST

Thanks for proving my point. I have said repeatedly that Islam is not a religion, but a political party.

I refuse to apologize for my stand against Islam and everything it stands for. You should be just as outraged about all the deaths on 911 as you are about the palestinian children that you allege were killed by Israel. If the Palestinians would leave Israel the hell alone, those children needn't have died, so their blood is on the hands of the Palestinian government.

Secondly, if you're going to cite something, you should try and prove YOUR point, instead of validating mine. (You claimed ISLAM was responsible for 9/11, when I correctly pointed out that Al Qaeda was responsible for it. Al Qaeda might be muslim, but islam is not Al Qaeda)

While I find monotheism quite ridiculous, and organized religion in general the same, I have educated myself on the major religions in our world throughout my life.

You apparently haven't, and know NOTHING of islam.

Are you familiar with any of our governments interference in the Middle east since the 50's ? Apparently not.

If Hamas continues to fire missiles into Israel, they will be crushed under the tank treads of the IDF. I feel sorry for the civilians in Gaza but they have backed a losing policy. The people of Gaza need to rise up and destroy Hamas themselves. Once Hamas is out of power, Israel will lift the blockades and the rebuilding can begin in ernest. Hamas can expect no help from Egypt as they know that another war with Israel would be a lost cause. Iran will not help as they realize that direct intervention in Gaza would produce a swift and violent response from Israel's allies. Jordan wants no part of this and Syria has it's own problems to deal with. Hamas and Gaza are on their own.

This war/conflict has been going on for thousands of years. The last 30 years has been one of the longest times of peace. The Israelis are not the ones trying to wipe the Palestinians/Arabs off the map. Every Arab charter in the region calls for the complete annihilation of the Israeli state and the Jewish people. But some of you people want to get upset when the Jews want to take the Arabs at their word. If the Palestinian state was not so corrupt full of leaders stealing their people's money then maybe they might make some progress. But Palestinian leaders want their people warring against Israel so they don't notice them stealing them blind. I could say Israel will bomb Gaza back to the stone age, but that would probably be an improvement. These Palestinians love their children so much that they are willing to strap bombs to them so they can blow by children in Israel.
