Israel and Gaza enter a second day of deadly exchanges that erupted after a Hamas military leader was killed in an Israeli missile attack. Israelis maintain that deadly strike was in retaliation for Palestinian rocket attacks. ITV's Paul Davies reports.
News analysis
TEL AVIV, Israel - Unilateral Israeli military attacks are not unexpected in this part of the world, as the wars with Gaza in 2008 and Lebanon in 2006 show.
In the past, Israel, with help from the United States, could rely on the acquiescence of the Egyptian government to do nothing. This week's attacks, the first large-scale Israeli operation since Arab Spring revolts erupted and toppled governments throughout the region, will seriously test whether the United States and Israel can still depend on Egypt's new government to hold the line.
Egypt's reaction to Israel's bombing was swift.

Israeli soldiers watch as an Iron Dome launcher fires an interceptor rocket near the southern city of Beersheba on Thursday.
"The Israelis must realize that this aggression is unacceptable and would only lead to instability in the region and would negatively and greatly impact the security of the region," Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi said in a televised address on Thursday.
In a post-revolutionary Egypt, one where the country's foreign policy is expected to be more closely aligned with the will of the people, the latest round of Israeli strikes is sure to test Egypt's willingness go along with Israel and the United States. More importantly, it will test whether the United States' international priorities still hold sway in Egypt.
ANALYSIS: Israel, Gaza slide closer to war neither side wants
But whether or not the Israeli strikes on Hamas anger the Egyptian government, the key question is, what can Egypt actually do?
Egypt, which has acted as a mediator between Hamas and Israel since 2007, recalled its ambassador in protest to what it called Israel's aggression on the people of Gaza. It has summoned the Israeli ambassador to Cairo for a diplomatic dress down. It has also pushed for a United Nations Security Council meeting and will convene an Arab League gathering.
Egypt's ruling Freedom and Justice Party, and by extension the Muslim Brotherhood, has condemned the attacks and called for a strong international response. Already there are protest rallies and marches in solidarity with the people of Gaza being organized in Cairo.
Israel: Three civilians killed by rockets fired from Gaza as violence escalates
Many in Egypt aren't sure what any of these moves will amount to. At the end of the day, any international measure condemning Israel will have to go through the U.N. and will most likely be vetoed by the United States.
So Israeli actions in Gaza will test the United States' evolving relationship with Egypt post-Hosni Mubarak, the U.S.-backed dictator who was deposed in 2011.
Three Israelis were killed when their apartment building was struck by a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip, an attack that intensified tensions between Israel and Palestinian militants. The incident came after Hamas' top military commander and seven others were killed in a series of airstrikes by the Jewish state. NBC's Martin Fletcher reports.
The White House said on Wednesday that Obama had spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egypt's Morsi, and reiterated U.S. support for Israel's right to self-defense in light of rocket attacks from Gaza.
"The president urged Prime Minister Netanyahu to make every effort to avoid civilian casualties. The two agreed that Hamas needs to stop its attacks on Israel to allow the situation to de-escalate," the statement said. "The president also spoke with President Morsi given Egypt's central role in preserving regional security. In their conversation, President Obama condemned the rocket fire from Gaza into Israel and reiterated Israel's right to self-defense."
These and other initial statements out of Washington have been received with great disappointment on the Arab street. Unlike in the past, the Arab street increasingly matters to more responsive Arab governments.

Palestinian mourners carry the body of Hamas' top military commander Ahmed Jabari, who was killed in an Israeli strike on Wednesday, during his funeral in Gaza City, on Thursday,
Many in Egypt blame Palestinians for a week of rocket fire into southern Israel, but not the Israeli strikes on Gaza over the past week that have killed civilians, including young children. On Arab talk shows, news programs and press, many are denouncing Obama for failing to live up to the promise he made when he traveled to Cairo in 2009 and offered Muslims "a new beginning" and "mutual respect.
Four years ago, under the same pretext it used in carrying out Operation Pillars of Defense, Israel carried out Operation Cast Lead to stop Palestinian rocket fire into southern Israel. It is hard to say that the operation succeeded -- Hamas not only remains firmly in power and it has grown stronger in Gaza.
Israel acknowledged that since Cast Lead, Palestinian militant groups have acquired new longer-range rockets and missiles and Hamas has not been weakened operationally to the point its not a threat.
If Israel's military operation failed to stop rocket fire four years ago, why would it succeed this time around?

Obama finally noticed the hurricane, maybe he will notice Gaza/Israel in a few weeks.
And hopefully when he DOES notice he'll walk on by, leave things as they are, and focus on our OWN problems in our OWN Country, for once.
We've been in enough pointless Mideast quagmires as it is.
We need to stay out of this. COMPLETELY out of this. Let Israel take care of Hamas. They've got our money, don't they?? And they CERTAINLY have the weaponry. Let them have at it. A couple of tactical nukes, and maybe their message will sink in: Israel is not about to go away.
Come on Fubarak(clever name)......why should Obama open himself up to criticism on all sides when he ultimately fails to help the situation between Israel and Palestine. The new realities of the Middle East are not going to allow for peace in this lifetime...we have enough problems here at home thank-you very much!
@Hotticket:
So how many children and other non-combatants are you willing to "nuke" there? And how much fallout should Israel be willing to absorb in the meantime? People like you need to be in a @!$%#ing straight-jacket and a padded cell.
As Egypt and our President mentioned, the Hamas must stop shelling and attacking Israelis so the situation will de-escalate and things will settle down. But as long as Hamas keep attacking and sending missiles into Israeli territory, there will be no backing down. How long is Israel expected to submit to an enemy attacks before she is allowed to take a stand by the world?
The Hamas have only gotten stronger with longer range missiles in the past four years. There comes a point when a country says, "No more, a line has been drawn which once passed, a certain deadly counter-action must begin." The Hamas have crossed that point. Expecting Israel to just stand by and continue to let her people be killed is ridiculous. We certainly wouldn't expect any other nation to do so. Why should we or our allies demand Israel to do the same in the name of peace?
Since 2007 the UN and United States have asked it to be patient, to not attack or strike back, despite numerous attacks and fatalities caused by Hamas. Some days over a hundred missiles have been shot into Israel territory. It is understandable now that they say enough and well they should.
Let Egypt say what they want, posture and demand. I believe until Israel takes a stand, from Hamas bulllying and attacking, nothing will change and these terrorist groups will continue to seek out innocent lives to destroy.Sometimes one needs to sweep their areas clean of pestilence in order to have peace finally.
For anyone who thinks Israel needs to stop their retaliations tell me this. How many rocket strikes would the US take from a neighbor before total invasion? Funny how we are so glib about this when its not one of ours who is killed by these rocket attacks into Israel.
I have no easy answer. But, I submit this letter written over 40 years ago:
The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are
forbidden to the Jews. Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of
people and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it, Poland and
Czechoslovakia did it.
Turkey threw out a million Greeks and Algeria a million Frenchman.
Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese and no one says a word
about refugees. But in the case of Israel, the displaced Arabs have become
eternal refugees.
Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single one.
Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than
any committed by the Nazis.
Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms.
But when Israel is victorious, it must sue for peace.
Everyone expects the Jews to be the only real Christians in this world.
Other nations, when they are defeated, survive and recover but should Israel
be defeated it would be destroyed.
Had Nasser triumphed last June [1967], he would have wiped Israel off the
map, and no one would have lifted a finger to save the Jews.
No commitment to the Jews by any government, including our own, is worth the
paper it is written on.
There is a cry of outrage all over the world when people die in Vietnam or
when two Blacks are executed in Rhodesia.
But, when Hitler slaughtered Jews no one demonstrated against him.
The Swedes, who were ready to break off diplomatic relations with America
because of what we did in Vietnam, did not let out a peep when Hitler was
slaughtering Jews.
They sent Hitler choice iron ore, and ball bearings, and serviced his troops
in Norway.
The Jews are alone in the world.
If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish
resources.
Yet at this moment, Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally.
We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us.
And one has only to imagine what would have happened last summer [1967] had
the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war, to realize how vital the
survival of Israel is to America and the West in general.
I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will
it go with all of us.
Should Israel perish, the Holocaust will be upon us all.
Eric Hoffer, one of the most influential American philosophers and free thinkers of the 20th Century - awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1983, wrote the above column
in 1968
Yes and it is a shame that these Arab sore loosers use women and children as human shields then cry foul after they indiscriminately launch high explosives into Israeli towns..
The opening sentence in this article is a disgrace. It implies that Israel took the action they did without provocation, which could not be further from the truth. As for Morsi's statements, he needs to either wake up or just go away. Israel is not the aggressor here, they are responding to over 100 rockets that Hamas fired into Israel before the Israelis fired a single shot. As for the civilian casualties, no one is to blame for these besides the cowards in Hamas. They hide their weapons caches and rocket launchers in civilian homes. This virtually guarantees civilian casualties when Israel strikes at the launch sites. It is absurd to fault Israel for these civilian deaths. Hamas deliberately places their launchers in civilian areas and in civilian homes so that they can then show pictures of dead civilians to try and gain sympathy. The reality is that Hamas does not care about civilians dying, if they did they would stop using them as human shields. If Egypt and Morsi want to remain relevant to this situation then the Egyptian government needs to take Hamas to task for their unprovoked attacks against Israel and their use of civilians as human shields. If Morsi is simply going to parrot the terrorist line about civilian casualties instead of recognizing the reasons they are occurring then his participation in resolving this problem is worthless. Israel has every right to defend themselves and they have no reason to apologize for civilian casualties that are caused by Hamas' own actions. If Hamas is going to hide their stockpiles of rockets and launchers in the basements of civilian homes then it should be expected that those civilians are going to die. It is completely unreasonable to expect Israel not to try and destroy these stockpiles because Hamas is using their own people as human shields. The people of Gaza elected the terrorists of Hamas as their leaders and now they have to accept the consequences of that action. If they do not want any more civilian casualties they need to stop Hamas from using them as shields.
The only way for Israel to win this new action is to kill them all. These Palestinians won't ever stop fighting Israel, not until the Israelis are all dead, to the last man, woman and child. Israel gave up Gaza, they completely moved off. Then what did the Palestinians do, they started rocketing Southern Israel. They could have become business partners with Israel and really thrived but no, they chose not to even recognize Israel's right to exist, then fire rockets. What choice now does Israel have? How many other countries would let hundreds of missiles land on them and do nothing? Fight on Israel!!
Why do we keep reading about leaders, such as Egypt's Mohammed Morsi, telling Israel to stand down after hamas has launched 100 rockets into Israel in 5 days prior to the attack?
I support Israel's fight. I would expect the same out of ANY country that cares about it's people.
Even the first line of the article is wrong. This was not a unilateral move by Israel. They were getting attacked!!!
On another note if the world wants Israel to respond proportionally then Israel should just shoot hundreds of unaimed rockets into Gaza instead of the precision strikes that they are doing to reduce deaths.
"The Israelis must realize that this aggression is unacceptable and would only lead to instability in the region and would negatively and greatly impact the security of the region," Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi said in a televised address on Thursday.
So Mr. Morsi, nothing to be said about the Palestinian aggression that prompted this response?
Yeah, it's all Obama's fault, right? So are hurricanes, famines, and every other disaster that strikes mankind. If aliens landed tomorrow and wiped out humanity, it too would be Obama's fault. Grow up, man. As far as Israel goes, I say let them fight their own wars of aggression and absorb all the repercussions. They are most capable to take care of themselves, and have hundreds of powerful nukes to boot. Enough of our rubber stamping and banking everything they do.How about rebuilding our own infrastructure and education system here at home? That would be a much better use of the billions of dollars we give to Israel. And on top of it, we wouldn't be antagonizing half the Islamic world.
Well, we certainly know which side MSNBC is on...the side of the Palestinians. Arab Spring??? Hahahahahahaha! That was just some silly term made up by the press. There was no Arab Spring. There was the toppling of dictators in order to fill the ranks with people who REALLY REALLY hate Israel and the West, the Muslim Brotherhood. Egypt needs to STFU and be glad that we still sell them Apache helicopters. This article loves to point out the aide we give to Israel, but doesn't like to talk about all the money we give to Egypt (and not just to buy our toys). WE NEED TO STOP US FOREIGN AIDE TO OUR ENEMIES!!!
Ixor: Just an aside. Sweden proclaimed neutrality during WWII but did so by being a "double agent" of sorts. For example, though they gave Hitler iron ore and allowed their troops safe passage from Norway to Finland during their invasion of Russia, they also provided refuge to Danish and Norweigan Jews. Be that as it may, their treatment of Jews since then justifies the problems they're currently having with the Mulsims who have essentially taken over their country.
@Ixor Kleb "The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources."
I know this is not your words and do not expect you to respond, but what about the 3-6 billion the United States sends Israel in aid each year? How much aid would Israel get from the U.S. not just financially, but militarily if it were truly attacked/invaded? Who are your trying to fool. Both sides try to play the "victim" when it supports their causes stop trying to B.S.
I am not supporting the random rocket fire at all, not to mention the whole cease fire, and then more rockets. In this case I do believe Israel has a right to defend itself by going after the heads, but cannot condone the land grabs which help to fuel the conflict. Stop trying to acquire more land and I might believe the sob story. Until then I see two sides, groups, humans, that what the same thing, and are both willing to die for it. I would prefer not to see either of my bothers kill each other if at all possible.
The jury is still out on Egypt, but I am hopeful. The jury is still out on the U.S. and other countries too :P. Some of the things Morsi has said/done I agree with, others I do not, and this is one of them.
Islamic extremists think they have the right to attack Israel and they have no right to retaliate...so says Egypt, everyone knew the mu-slim brotherhood would react this way, the mu slimes want all the rest of the infidels dead period. This will be a bloody mess, Hamas would attack us if they thought they could get by with it.
Israel needs lots and lots of LIWS and CIWS along their borders without any gaps between each ones range.
In the Holy Bible, God talks about his people, the Israelites and how their New Province will be bombarded by the North and all sides eventually. It's Professy, and it will happen so that the Lord can continue His plan and show us all His Power and Strength.
But in the meentime, Satan will come and destroy those who deter from the truth of God and send them to Exile in hell for eternity; and those of us who are covered, only by His grace, and nothing we have done on this Earth except Believe in Jesus Christ, will suffer too, but not to worry, for we shall be exulted and share in the happiness of Eternity with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit Forever and ever Amen.
The world has gone completely insane.
Tired: You are naive if you believe this is a land-for-peace issue. It's a cultural and religious war waged by murderous Muslims who espoused the murder of Jews long before modren Arab-Israeli conflict. According to their covenant, killing Jews dates back to Allah. And there have been numerous opportunities for them to have a state, which they repeatedly rejected. It is not only their land but they want it all, free of Jews. It won't happen. If you insist on a detailed explanation of my statements I'll gladly supply them, along with a cogent rationale for continued US support of Israel. But it may take a while for me to respond - family responsiblilties.
"Yeah, it's all Obama's fault, right?"
Of course not. It's Bush's fault.
I have a suggestion that will end Israel's problems, peacefully and for good. Make it the law that all jews in the world, are citizens of Israel, with full voting rights.
Tired,
thank you for your thoughts.
What of the aid to Israel? It is nearly all mandated to be spent in the United States. As far as I know Israel is the only country receiving our aid that has that constraint placed upon her. Don't you think that Iron Dome system would be an asset for us perched on our aircraft carriers and navy fleet in the Persian Gulf?
ps. I'm a second generation Swedish American...and can only shake my head, sad for the change in modern Swedish society. If you are familiar with the internet commentator Pat Condell....what he has to say on the matter articulates how I feel about THAT matter.
IT has come to a point where Israel has to wipe out hamas..
how would you like to live with your neighbor constantly firing missiles, guns over the border at you?
these arabs/muslims don't have the same MENTALITY as normal people.
i see no other way..
these muslims are nothing but trouble world wide..
where ever there are muslims in mass, there is war or trouble.
it's not good to say...but a world war is needed to sort this out.
Curious... in looking at the slideshow the Isreali photos are well focused and have good lighting as if the photographer is relaxed and using a tripod. Even the picture where a woman is trying to calm another lady is too professional. What are the guys looking at? another pic: Oh, there's rocket fire let me take my baby to the window. The photos look staged. On the Gaza side the photos are hazy, slightly out of focus, more reactionary photography.
Gaza launched 100 rockets and no word, no story, none injured or killed. Who was firing them thar rockets, the A-Team? Isreal launches a strike killing the Hamas leader. Gaza fires back and suddenly they kill 3 people. Why are they all of the sudden able to hit a target?
These stories are all the same. It's hard to know what is real. Has anyone interviewed the Jeopardy crew to find out if they've seen rocket fire on their trips?
Excellent post, Ixor.
Think outside the box, read post #2.23. Then they could also absorb the palistinians as citizens and remove their valid complaint of no voting rights.
So does that mean aggression by hamas is acceptable??? When exactly would be an acceptable time table for Israel to defend herself??? Laughable that Morsi thinks that the Prime Minister needs a green light from Egypt. Why doesn't Morsi try to use his influence for stability with hamas, where the actual aggression is coming from??? Oh, yeah...Morsi really isn't all that interested in hamas.
http://www.nowlebanon.com/NewsArchiveDetails.aspx?ID=444581
Why not try something different, instead of repeating the things that have not worked for thousands of years. The Jews have been doing the same thing since Joshua ran the army. Do you reckon they will ever learn anything?
The biggest mistake the allies did after WWII was putting the Jews in Israel. What did they think was going to happen when you run people off their land? They should have put them in the U.S. somewhere. That being said, Israel is more than capable of defending themselves. We give them $3 Billion in aid plus access to our weapons. I don't want to see us involved in another Middle East conflict that will accomplish nothing except killing a bunch of people. We should have just let them all kill each other decades ago.
Fla.Voter: Are you related to Retired Floridian?" Or are you really the infamous Retired Floridian. Ah, the plot thickens.
IWonder: I wonder what in God's name you are talking about. Please clarify and then you can join Retired Floridian and Fla. Voter for Friday night Bingo in Ft. Lauderdale, followed by a glass of warm milk and a shot of Thorazine.
LOL!!! Touchdown, Basil.
Why is common sense, so uncommon?
Well basil, did you just skip to the bottom, or are you an example of, "some men you just can't reach."
And hey basil, since you mention it, what is god's name anyway?
IWonder, in reference to your post (which is not at 2.23, BTW but is at 1.23) I think someone beat you to it.
http://www.mfa.gov.il/mfa/mfaarchive/2000_2009/2001/8/acquisition%20of%20israeli%20nationality
Thanks chefaz, I hadn't read the article but it is really very obvious, so, I am not surprised that someone had already thought of it. It only adds to its credence that at least two people arrived at the same conclusion, independently. Thanks for correcting my error as to my previous post.
Oops, I was premature, I just now read the article. The key to my solution is for every Jew to have Israeli voting privileges, regardless of his/her residence.
As you can see IWonder, Israel is very liberal in the requirements for citizenship. Here is more info on Israel and it's Arab population. BTW, Arabs make up about 20% of the government body.
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/myths/mf18.html
Israel has also accepted many non-Jewish refugees fleeing terrible circumstances in their own countries. These refugees risk their very lives to reach Israel in the hope of freedom and a better life, just like so many coming to the US.
mmm...I'll beg to differ on your voting ideas for Israel. I think they need to be actual citizens, just like every other country.
doncha just hate typos??? :)
IWonder: If you combine posts 1.23 with 1.28 then what you are really saying is that the Palestinians are Jews or perhaps suggesting to convert them to Judaism. In that case may I suggest an alternative to the Florida plan. Go to the Gaza strip and carry a placard with posts 1.23 and 1.28 written on it. What happens next will save the American taxpayer a lot of money in nursing home care.
IWonder: Just read your response to Chefaz and now understand what you were trying to say; sort of. For now you can skip the Florida and Gaza plans and remain in the company of us rational beings.
Well chefaz, I read that article and you're right about the typos. Problem is that there is 3,761, 000 palestinians in just the west bank and gaza strip according to wikipedia. In short, if they are included, they outnumber the jews.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_people
You can't believe everything you read. I don't expect people to understand what I'm saying but the crux is that if all the palestinians could vote in Israeli elections they could control the country.
Almost forgot, nah basil, I'm not saying that the palestinians should become jews, you can't become a jew. You are either born jewish or you're not.
And chefaz, you mention that israel is liberal, that is another interesting thing. If you've ever read the old testament, you will understand why the jews are democrats. It talks about the ten commandments but spends more time repeating the liberal ideas. If you're kind to widows and orphans, help the poor and so on and so forth, then you will be loved by abraham's god and he will bring rain when you need it and la lala la la.
Isn't it funny that many liberals "claim" to be atheists? I am an atheist and it seems to me that they are really closet jews.
Good point but they do not outnumber the Jewish population of Israel. According to this, Jews outnumber Gazans.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Israel
Although your numbers do present a problem. Do you have a link for your information, BTW??? Thing is, Israel was created to be the Jewish Homeland and must remain so. Israel is the world's only Jewish Homeland. The world needs Israel more than Israel needs the world.
Are you aware of where Palestinians come from??? These links below provide that information - all from Palestinians. In the history of the world, there has never been a country a country called "Palestine". They are not a separate ethnic group or even part of a specific religion although most residents of Gaza today are islamic. When the Romans overran the area 2,000 years ago, they coined the name to the area as an insult to the inhabitants. For whatever reason, the name stuck.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHbCGC6amdk&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZtiUdl9Cd0
Gaza receives quite a bit of sabre rattling support from other islamic countries but yet, none of these countries have bothered to offer asylum to the inhabitants although some of these countries are certainly wealthy enough to absorb the people. On the other hand, some of these islamic countries have done more than their share of persecution of their minority populations. For one example, Iran had very healthy Jewish, Christian and Baha'i populations who lived in peace and prosperity for a very long time. For all of the out cry on these pages against Israel, how many of these viners speak against the atrocities committed against those citizens???
What about the "land grabbers" of Pakistan??? The Partition of 1947 carved up India in the quest for peace since islamics insisted on murdering others - mostly Hindus. Innocent Indians suffered before the partition and millions suffered after the partition. To this day, Pakistan continues to abuse it's minorities. Any outcry on these hallowed pages about it??? Nary a peep but let Israel defend itself when attacked and the haters are out in droves. Case in point, here's a link on the Hazaras of Pakistan.
http://www.hazara.net/
In my humble opinion, we do not need another islamic country and Israel has been far more patient over the years than many other countries would have tolerated. But...Israel is willing to come to a two state solution. Part of the problem??? Residents of Gaza refuse to even acknowledge Israel as a nation. Unreal.
And I will beg to differ with you on this statement. You most certainly may become a Jew. It is not something to be taken casually.
Sorry for being so "windy".
Funny that you mention that you are an atheist. Picked this book up just last week.
http://notenoughfaith.info/
This piece seems to take the position that because all the other cool countries are doing it, why is Israel vilified for doing the same thing. Well, just because Reagan gave the guy a medal, does not automatically get him my unconditional respect. What I wonder is, in this day and age, how many Americans consider what life is like for the average Palestinian in Gaza, and why it is that way. And further, how would you feel in that position? 99.99 percent of the people are not considering both sides. Neither side is right completely. It is not right for the Israelis to put such restraints upon the Palestinians and the Israelis look upon them as though they were filthy animals. The Hamas terrorism is counterproductive and and it amazes me that they don't see it. The attacks on both sides are borne of anger and frustration not the will to resolve their differences. And because of these things it is not in America's interest to become involved in any other capacity than a diplomatic one.
People need to stop seeing themselves as white, black, Jew, Muslim, Christian, American or whatever and begin to see that we are all human beings and in the end, all that other stuff doesn't matter.
Hal: "People need to stop seeing themselves as white, black, Jew, Muslim, Christian, American or whatever and begin to see that we are all human beings and in the end, all that other stuff doesn't matter."
Wouldn't that be perfect!? But it will never happen. Religion has persistsed for thousands of years and will continue to do so. It is an outcome of humans' eternal nagging question: "Why are we here and what is this all about?" (or something like that). We need to be able to explain our existence and religion purports to do this. The problem with Islam is that it has not abrogated its medieval means of jurisprudence and continues to resort to murder and [our modern day conception] of human rights violations, especially against women and children, unlike other religions. It's easy and perhaps politically correct to say, "neither side is right completely," and I happen to agree with this. Blame is to be had by both sides but a large majority of the blame is to be had by the Arabs who have never relinquished their aim of annhiliating Israel and the Jews in general. It's in their charter and covenant. This is not a land-for-peace problem. It's a cultural and religious war and the Muslims must implement a fundamental change in their thinking before there can ever be any hope for a peaceful solution to all this.
Hello folks, for decades the anti Semitic gambit is used when anyone states facts that shed light on the brutal covert activities Israel has propagated on humanity. While Israel is attacking the Palestinians they are also attacking Syrians on the Syrian border. Israel is also covertly killing scientists in Iran. And if you haven’t figured it out by now, Israel is trying to start WW III with Iran. Under Netanyahu Israel is nothing more than a third rate bully!
Remember the USS Liberty?
USS Liberty was attacked in international waters by Israeli forces on June 8, 1967, killing 34 Americans and wounding another 174. When Israel can't get the U.S. to do its bidding in attacking the countries they want attacked they perpetrate covert military attacks against the U.S.
General Dempsey, Chairman of America’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the man who flew to Tel Aviv and informed Netanyahu that America wanted no part of his scheming against Iran was the subject of an assassination attempt in Afghanistan. This wasn’t an act of terrorism or Taliban militants. It was a mob hit by Israel’s Mossad against someone who failed to kiss the feet of Netanyahu. His response was to unleash killers, not a fact for the public but a fact just the same, one the American military knows very well. Netsayahoo is pathologically insane.
What about the land Israel has stolen from the Palestinians much less the thousands murdered and millions displaced. Remember the 1947 UN Partition accord and the land ceded to Israel. That wasn’t enough so Israel encroached on more Palestinian land the land lines were redrawn in 1967 and Israel keeps redrawing them to this day Recently Israel’s Defense Ministry has ordered eight Palestinian villages in the West Bank to be razed, claiming the land is needed for military training.. Hundreds of Palestinians are to be displaced despite evidence that the villages have existed since 1830. In their magnanimity they let the farmers have back their own land on the weekends to eke out a living. Israel continues to displace innocent men, women and children and wonders why they are targets of terrorism. What would you do if someone took over your home?
Netsayahoo is pissed off that the American elections didn’t go his way so that he would have a more pliable puppet to attack Iran. Now his elections are coming up and he is worried that if he doesn’t mire his country in an all out war he won’t be re-elected.
One thing for certain is that when Israel tells America to jump our leaders simply respond “how high”.
Netsayahoo will do anything to start WWIII. The guy actually believes in Armageddon and thinks he's the one to deliver it. If Israel wants to go to war, that is their call but they can do it alone and suffer the consequences for their actions!
Arabs have been attacking israel long before Reagan gave away any medals or before he bedded a chimpanze.
If somebody wants to shoot you and does: DON'T shoot back, Hal, You don't want to be cool like everyone else right?
It beyond naivete to impose on someone a level of morality that you yourself do not possess. What makes you special or what special insight do you have that you can level such a mandate upon Israel?
What other "Stuff" might that be? How is it that you now lump Jews into the mix?
Hal
Life is challenge and we face all kinds of different challenges. We get up early out of bed in the morning and drive to work. We rise in the middle of the night when the baby cries and we go to the hospital when our loved ones need us there. We do dreary things and terrible things that seem so different from the life we imagined as children. And we do them not only because they are duty, but because these challenges make us who we are.
Unclean and Hateful Bird banned, multiple of Liberal College Girl and Ave Satani, also banned. That was unnecessary.
All I know is Hamas has been firing rockets on civilians in Israel for years, and it's time someone put a stop to it.
Someone sent me this video from Youtube of the Israeli IRON DOME intercepting about a dozen Hamas rockets over an Israeli town.
THIS IS SIMPLY AMAZING!!!
h t t p : / / www . youtube . com / watch?v=9VlJRU-tXbo
.
.
This is just what some person in Israel caught on their camera while they were waiting near a bus stop.
But you can clearly see about a dozen interceptors fired at incoming missiles and you can hear the explosions. It's crazy! You can hear that the girl who was standing next to the guy was freaking out.
Just imagine what would've happened to that young man and that girl in the video (and many other people in that town/neighborhood) if all those rockets would have landed near them, instead of being intercepted by that anti-missile system.
The only reason there are not more casualties on the Israeli side, is that all the people in Israel know they have to seek shelter if they hear a siren. Or in the case of these young people in this video, they were lucky to be protected by Iron Dome.
This is the most idiotic line written in this article. You are right Mr. Mohyeldin, they should just give up on trying to protect themselves from rocket fire.
They should follow the saying "If at first you don't succeed, keel over and die."
I think the stupidest line was the first one: "Unilateral Israeli military attacks are not unexpected in this part of the world, as the wars with Gaza in 2008 and Lebanon in 2006 show."
What? No Palestinian or Lebanese ever fired a rocket? Really??
Unilateral - means only one one actor. No cause and effect. NO act and react. SO I guess this author really believes that Israel went into Lebanon and then into Gaza and all 3 times they fired all these rockets into Israel themselves just so they could have a pretext to attack those poor misunderstood terrorists.
This attitude is blatantly pro-terrorist!! This is not a balanced article at all!!
I agree Arnold! i got that impression as well. I wonder where the author is from "Mr. Mohyeldin" hmm
The Palestinian bottle rockets attacks, which have inflicted no harm, are in retaliation for Israeli air strikes on Hamas leaders over the past year. This is a case of the chicken and the egg. The Jews have stolen the Palestinians land and water, treated them like animals and terrorized the entire population for years. The Arabs have responded because of desperation and despair, created by the Israeli terrorists.
The bottle rockets may travel a bit farther, but they are still mostly primitive home made devices.
"If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel.
It is normal; we have taken their country. It is true God promised it to us,
but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been Anti -
Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault ? They see but
one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept
that?"

Give us your address so someone can buy a bundle of "bottlerockets" from the local indian reservation to serenade you all night and all day for the next 7 years?
Ralph,
BTW:
You can bet we can't buy a Fajr 5 missile carrying a 165-lb. warhead. So count yourself lucky you live in america where you can spew without fear of one of those landing harmlessly in your backyard or just offshore of the CA coast near where you live.
ps: I don't want to know where you live unless I'm moving...so I know what to avoid.....
Ixor - Go write some more of your Israeli propaganda along with the rest of the Zionists on this forum. You can continue to blow smoke up each others a$$es, while pumping out Zionist revisionist history.
Israel is a terrorist nation, led by a madman.
Furthermore, Israel is a parasite on American taxpayers, like me. Best of luck to the Palestinians in Gaza. They will need it, because they are unarmed people facing F16s and tanks. It is just the way the IDF likes to fight.
RalphH: May I suggest some anti-constipating remedy? I sincerely believe that irregularity is your problem. Time to rid yourself of all that @!$%# you've accumulated. It's risen to your head and keeps coming out of your mouth.
Ralph ,
How disingenuous of you.
Why are YOU of all posters lecturing me on the evils of propaganda? What specifically about those posts of mine is "propaganda" in the light of your statements:
How so?
All of Israel's is spent in the USA. Anyone in your family work for a USA defense contractor?
Ixor - Here is some info for you to prove you are a liar.
Israel enjoys other privileges.
While most countries receiving U.S. military aid funds are expected to use them
for U.S. arms, ammunition and training, Israel can spend part of these funds on
weapons made by Israeli manufacturers. Also, when it spends its U.S. military
aid money on U.S. products, Israel frequently requires the U.S. vendor to buy
components or materials from Israeli manufacturers. Thus, though Israeli
politicians say that their own manufacturers and exporters are making them
progressively less dependent upon U.S. aid, in fact those Israeli manufacturers
and exporters are heavily subsidized by U.S. aid.
Here is more
http://ifamericansknew.org/stats/cost_of_israel.html
Most U.S. loans to Israel are
forgiven, and many were made with the explicit understanding that they would be
forgiven before Israel was required to repay them. By disguising as loans what
in fact were grants, cooperating members of Congress exempted Israel from the
U.S. oversight that would have accompanied grants. On other loans, Israel was
expected to pay the interest and eventually
http://ifamericansknew.org/stats/cost_of_israel.html
to begin repaying the principal. But
the so-called Cranston Amendment, which has been attached by Congress to every
foreign aid appropriation since 1983, provides that economic aid to Israel will
never dip below the amount Israel is required to pay on its outstanding loans.
In short, whether U.S. aid is extended as grants or loans to Israel, it never
returns to the Treasury.
The Israelis can be best compared to leaches, parasites that feed off of the blood of their hosts.
RALPH H ....
YOU are a full blown WANKER
You definitely must be a HAMAS follower ..
YOUR definitely not AMERICAN
Sounds like Egypt could be next on the Israeli hit list. It would be better if Egypt just stayed put and quiet like they should.
The last think Egypt wants is a war with Israel. Even without support from the US they could kick the @!$%# out of the Egyptian military. But if that is what they want, tally ho!
They COULD? Heck, they have, twice (not counting their independence in '47). I guess Israel will need to go for the sweep and make it 3-0
Julie,
Actually 4 times, 48, 56, 67, and 73
I gotta admit it would be fun to see Egypts stripped down version of the Apache helicopter fight against the superior version the Israelis have.
The USA has the dubious honor of having trained the Egyptian army and has also supplied them with our top of the line weapons, like: Abrams tanks, M 109 self propelled howitzers, F-16s, UH-60 Black Hawks & Chinooks; and the full range of US air to air & air to ground jet fired missiles, and of course our best laser guided bombs; and don't forget Perry & Knox Class Guided Missile Frigates with Harpoon missiles.
If war breaks out then it is going to directly involve the USA whether we like it or not!! Time to stop supplying Egypt with aid. Cancel all the co-production deals. Stop every shipment of weapons. They are attempting to use US, the USA, to blackmail Israel!! Both parties did this & both need to clean it up.
Jerry, yea. I did mentioned it "(not counting their independence in '47). "
Rockets from Gaza have been raining down on Israel for a very long time with little world concern. When they finally strike back to stop the terror, there is world condemnation for Israel, and they are made out to be the terrorists. If your neighbor in the house next door to you was shooting bullets through your wall every night, would you be the bad guy to take action to stop it? Let Israel protect herself. Israel is a sovereign nation.
Well, it all depends on whether you are a liberal or a conservative. Where I am from (NJ) if a burglar breaks into your house and you shoot him, you go to jail. In Texas there would be no charges against you for defending your home.
The people of the US have spoken and liberalism is the new reality.
So what is Israel to do? Very easy. Let Israel send barrages of rockets into Gaza. When the palestinians fire back all Israel has to do is cry murder. The liberals will for sure side with Israel....
@Joe - I knew somebody would make this a political argument. You just can't help yourself can you... keep labeling people if it makes you feel better. No respect for people like you.
In New Jersey criminals have more protection under the law than do law abiding victims of said criminals? And you still live there? Where I live, they don't prosecute you for protecting your life or the lives of other people. By the way, only slightly more than half of the population spoke anything...and only slightly more than half of them spoke for Obama, and 90% of one group voted along racial lines. i don't see liberalism is the new reality. It turns over about every other election. People get tired of one and it reverts back to the other. The liberals will side with Israel? When does that happen?
When Israel defends itself the world condemns them, do the rag heads have their hands around the ba!!s of the worlds leaders. If egypt wants to start a war they better think it through, they have lost 4 times and I really don't think their army wants to get involved mainly because the brotherhood has taken over the country. This might be what the army needs to take back the country and control it as it has many times in the past which was the way they maintained a peaceful relationship with Israel.
If you're lobing rockets at someone you should EXPECT them to shoot back. You should EXPECT them to try and kill you all until you have stopped. Is this unrealistic? STOP FIRING ROCKETS AT PEOPLE!
According to another article, Hamas launched 100 rockets BEFORE Israel responded. And, another 150 since. Can someone explain exactly what Israel should do?
I do know that if a single rocket was fired from any country into the United States, the response would be far more than a few surgical strikes.
Egypt needs to be really careful, if they aren't, some day soon they will all wake up and all of their streets will be in Hebrew, especially in the Sinai!!!
Egypt needs to shut up and go away! Maybe they should concentrate on trying to feed their people, instead of sticking their nose in where it will do no good.
Gaza should be leveled, and that includes their olive trees also!
Notice how the Zionists on these forums want to kill all the Palestinians. See #6 and post 7.2, which show the mentality of the Zionist. Then they claim they are victims.
Moving to Gaza soon, Ralphie.
Make sure to keep your cell phone on, so we can zero in on it through GPS and that "free" game you installed yesterday!
"Unilateral Israeli military attacks are not unexpected in this part of the world, as the wars with Gaza in 2008 and Lebanon in 2006 show. " Really???? That's how you start and article? What a piece of propaganda B.S.!
Normally one would expect a reaction when someone is shooting rockets into a neighborhood ....but not this media source ....yep Israel started the entire damn thing...right !
POff, that was exactly my reaction. How the could any intelligent, responsible journalist start an article with that absolute bullsh-t? Unilateral attacks? Really? Why don't you just add "unprovoked', you f'in moron?
I am done, tired, had it with all this crap. Israel has been on the receiving end of this for way too long. And this is what happens when you give terrorists "land for peace", both in Gaza and in the Golan. They say thank you and then use that land to attack you.
And Morsi, that worthless POS:"The Israelis must realize that this aggression is unacceptable and would only lead to instability in the region and would negatively and greatly impact the security of the region."
Yeah, its terrible that the Israelis are being so aggressive and are negatively impacting the security of the region...they should just sit there and take rockets being launched ALL THE F_CKING TIME at them! What a tool.
I hope Israel kills every motherf-king one of them...
Savoir Faire - Israel never gave anything to the Palestinians, that was not Arab land to begin with, you twit. The Israelis stole all the land that makes up that sh-t hole of a country. Stop all US aid to the leaches in Israel.
"It is the duty of Israeli leaders to explain to public opinion,
clearly and courageously, a certain number of facts that are forgotten with
time. The first of these is that there is no Zionism, colonialization or Jewish
State without the eviction of the Arabs and the expropriation of their
lands."
Yoram Bar Porath, Yediot Aahronot, of 14 July 1972.
"Jewish villages were built in the place of Arab villages. You do not
even know the names of these Arab villages, and I do not blame you because
geography books no longer exist. Not only do the books not exist, the Arab
villages are not there either. Nahlal arose in the place of Mahlul; Kibbutz
Gvat in the place of Jibta; Kibbutz Sarid in the place of Huneifis; and Kefar
Yehushua in the place of Tal al-Shuman. There is not a single place built in
this country that did not have a former Arab population."
Moshe Dayan, address to the Technion, Haifa, reported in
Haaretz, April 4, 1969.
The US cannot win in this situation ...damned if you do and damned if you don't. Our involvement over so many years has brought us to a point where we cannot just ignore the situation.....nor can we allow ourselves to be pulled into another conflict....touchy situation indeed.
yes it is. Unfortunately all we have is the Obama administration and his political appointees to make the case. I don't see that happening not when we fully supported Egypt's elections and the Muslim brotherhood.
Your lead in line is a lie.
Hamas has been hitting Israel with rockets for the last several weeks.
I could almost believe your site is a Hamas front.
The article lacks impartiality.
"Unilateral Israeli military attacks are not unexpected in this part of the world, as the wars with Gaza in 2008 and Lebanon in 2006 show"
Everyone knows the current operation and the one in 2008 were in RESPONSE to thousands of rockets fired at CIVILIAN TARGETS in Israel.
Still, the author expects Israel to stand by and do nothing to protect it's civilian population. This appears to be a disinformation campaign from NBC.
I'm normally a dove and not a hawk. But in the case of Israel vs. Hamas & its allies, I'm all for complete annihilation of both the active militants and their supporters. If their culture allows them to use women and children in their jihad against Israel, then women and children are soldiers in this war. Israel has grown in the past 64 years and contributed much to the world while having its enemies repeatedly and in every way try to destroy her. They have not and cannot succeed. But rather than sit down and make peace like civilized human beings, the Hamas pigs choose to break Israeli windows with their Iranian rockets. Israel does not seek an eye for an eye as do the pagan Muslims. She just wants to continue to grow and contribute--even to her Arab belligerent neighbors. The world will never succumb to the Islamic fiction by force or cunning. If they choose to die for their false god, they'll just be added to the list of desert peoples who no longer exist on the face of the earth for their failing to follow the one true God, Jehovah.
The current rocket barrage was likely from Islamic Jihad, and NOT Hamas. Hamas has lost control of IJ, much as US Republicans had lost control of some Tea Party nutjobs (both are fringe elements) - the TP nuts will fade, but IJ will not. Gaza is more complicated because Hamas may listen to Egypt (and certainly doesn't want to "get into it" again with Israel), but IJ is a forward proxy/patsy for Iran (IJ only likes to fight, they have no interest in a "prosperous, independent Palestinian Land"), and Iran will NEVER back off (saying that Israel should be blown off the globe) unless something happens to Ahmanutjob. Iran doesn't really care about IJ (or the Palestinians), because there will always be some other fringe hater (like Hezbollah) that they can use to get at Israel.
Chris,
How do you come up with comparison? Is the Tea Party launching missiles at Massachusetts or New York?
Chris, even if Islamic Jihad was responsible it was more than likely with the blessings of Hamas! They are tied together at the hip.
We need to recognize Israel for what it is -- a terrorist state. One which has no interest at all in peace (except on its own terms). That would make it illegal to give money to it which is all the Israelis are interested in anyway.
This attack on "Hamas" is nothing more than an excuse for escalating tensions versus Iran.
How can you say Isreal is the terroist state. Who starting the constant shelling. Hamas. Grow up.
You sir are the root of the problem or should I say your lack of any understanding or any reasoning. Tell me you would stand idle while someone shoots at your family or loved one(s) continuously.....Really. You voted for Obbumer too....didn't you.
Hey Ed...we need to recognize that you are an idiot. Move to Gaza where you belong...
Palestinians have just as much claim to that land, but the war machine the United States backs will not allow them to claim it. Boo hoo, poor Israel
Get over it @JT, not everything is about Obama. My gosh you are so misinformed. This is not a lib/conserv issue, no matter how hard you try to make it that way. Brainwashed.
Simply observing the lack of electrical impulses above the shoulders.
Ryan,
They gave up their claim in 1948 when they voted against having a country. Remember the British created a two state solution but only one country accepted it and that was Israel
Karen and others, I stated on another post that one should never argue logic and common sense with narrow minded and myopic hatemongers like Ed. It is an exercise in futility, and thus not worth it.
this is not a response to any one that has blogged on this subject. Israel is not going to fail. This nation has the right to protect itself from invaders just as we in America have that right to defend ourselves. --If we were being bombed day after day in America, I would like to "believe our government has the guts to strike back with mighty force." the government doesn't have enough sense to quit giving money to other countries, who in truth want our down fall, these countries then supply our enemies with fire power, rockets, guns, you name it. America was attack when these countries attacked our embassies, we will never know the full truth of what really happened. Some one gave a command to stand down, whether it be Obama or Hillary Clinton. I believe that happened. I believe this country failed in this. We lost some good men. We struck back with words. This is just one incident. There are many more such as this, that we don't hear about. IXOR KLEB---That article you put on the blog--Eric Hoffer wrote in a1963---People should pay attention, because he knew what he was writing was the truth---This applies to our world today. It is still true. Now back to this--, how does people respond to the fact that these terrorists are using children and women in front of them as they attack,do you think that is right. Well its happening in this conflict with the Islamic extremists, another word for them is terrorist. We are not safe in America from terrorist attack. I hope and pray we are strong enough to get through this, God Bless America and our friend Isreal. God will take are of our friend and all his people.
"Palestinians have just as much claim to that land, but the war machine the United States backs will not allow them to claim it."
You know, by this reasoning, descendants of the Aztecs have a better claim to Mexico than all those other living there now. And Mayan descendants would have a better claim than the Aztecs.
Or perhaps all of Northern Spain and Southern France should immediately be deeded back to the Basque people? After all they have "just as much claim to that land", right?
Wrong. Read some world history. A group of people can only legitimately claim what they have the power to claim. Israel claimed territory in Palestine, the U.N. backed the claim initially, and Israel proved that claim through war and bloodshed. It has proved it's claim through numerous wars. Right now, not one nation in the Middle East dares to go toe to toe with Israel, unilaterally OR collectively. That includes Iran despite their rhetoric. End of claim.
In centuries past, after a war over geography or resources, the losing side was either slaughtered, assimilated, forcibly removed to a distant location, or enslaved and any "claim" they had to the land ended right there.
In this case, the Arab Palestinians, have remained in limbo. Because our modern rules of war prevent slaughter or enslavement. Neither side has any desire to "assimilate" with the other in terms of religion or culture, and the world community screams loudly that the only solution is to NOT relocate the Arab refugees to any distant location. Instead they cling to the ridiculous notion that they still have some "claim" to land they lost in war more than 6 decades ago & that someday soon, the Israelis are going to either die off or go away...
Effectively, any claim Palestinian Arabs had on geographic Isreal ended in either '48 or '67 (or perhaps you could argue on the day that Isreal acquired nuclear weapons). At this point, it is absurd to think that the state of Israel is going anywhere. Further, the world's push for Israel to stop developing projects inside of it's own sovereign territory is silly as well. It is like telling the state of Texas that not one more home can be built because the Commanche & Apache nations have "claimed" that territory.
Time for leaders & the people in the West Bank & Gaza to stop spending their resources on rockets and weapons in a silly, futile attempt to reclaim lost land. And sit down at the table with the rest of the civlized nations of the world and negotiate a lasting peace, broker some trade agreements, entice some foreign investment in infrastructure, and give their people a better life.

Are you Ed Schutz? You sure sound like him
Ghengis Khan: An intriguing and intelligent post.
It's about time that the people of the world recognize that Hamas is the problem and their continued shelling of Israel cannot be tolorated nor should it. I f they really want pease as they say. Stop the Shelling and Israel will negotiate. Keep shelling and expect to be receiving some back. Stop it.
A bit more...
Israel targets Hamas (even if they know IJ is firing rockets) because Hamas is the elected Gaza government, and if they REALLY want to, Hamas can put an end to the rockets - but the Israelis also wanted Jaabari gone. This could lead to a mini civil war between terrorists in Gaza - it happened before when Hamas took over. The difference now is that Iran has a bigger influence/interest after shipping a lot of weapons to Gaza. Ultimately this could end up pitting Iran against Egypt. Will see what develops.
I would believe that most Americans have no problem with Israel defending itself. What I have a problem with is an Israel that feels that they have such an "unbreakable" bond with the U.S. that they can constantly dictate our foreign policy in the Middle East even if their objectives run contrary to our objectives. My mom who was a Christian felt that we should protect Israel at all costs because the Jews are Gods people and they gave us Jesus. This thinking runs contrary to the founding principles of our country. It's tiresome to see our politicians have to get up and slobber all over themselves to appease the Jewish Lobby.... People who live in the U.S. should be supportive of Israel if they wish BUT they should be supportive of America first and foremost.
Randog M----I am supporitve of America to the limit, but none of us have to like what happens in this world. Any one has the right of free speech. Right is right and wrong is wrong. This country was founded on freedom and liberty for all. and the consitution says it all. In God We Trust, isn't that the motto on the good old dollars we use. Your good Christian mother had it right. Bless her. Isrealites are God's chosen people. God Bless you and ou country.
This is a very bias article. I typically read NBC News for their impartiality, but this is completely anti-Israel. I would expect this from CNN. Shame on you NBC for giving this person a place to write such propaganda.
HUH????? You are just now realizing that MSNBC is a completely liberal / leftist / pro Palestinian online rag? Were you not reading this rag during the run up to the election?
NBC as an impartial news source. Ha. They are just as biased further left than Fox is biased to the right.
And as usual, Ban Ki Moon and Ashton "expresses concern" which is another way of saying the UN will do nothing as usual. I am sure they will eventually "come to their senses" and blame Israel like they always do. Egypt and Turkey et al astounds me... or maybe this universe astounds me. I know here in the US, all it takes is 1 projectile being lobbed at us and we would go ballistic (pardon the pun)... but yes after Israel responds somewhere around the 150th projectile Egypt recalls their Ambassador, Erdogan of Turkey starts foaming at the mouth (as usual) and Israel's vaunted "Peace Partner" Abbas jumps on the bandwagon and says "How dare they!" (Israel, not Hamas) "How dare they defend themselves!"
And the people of Gaza once again suffer for the poor decisions of their "Leadership." And the people of Israel suffer because of former PM Olmert not finishing the job in Cast Lead.
I'm not a fan of President Obama, and i certainly didnt vote for him, but kudos to him actually calling the situation for what it is... terrorist escalation from Hamas.
(And for demographic information, I'm American, Jewish, Republican, Male, in my 30's who laments the death of innocents on both sides of the conflict)
archeim you aint american you are a jew period and have only loyalty to pissrael. and you are only in the GOP because they fight israels wars for them
My birth certificate says Cheltenham, Pennsylvania. And yes... i'm an American Jew (Rather proud of both actually)
I'm in the GOP because i happen to be a conservative minded person.
Oh... btw... what was the last war of Israel's that had American troops on the ground?
I dont care if you were born on mars you are a jew and like the past 3000 years you leech off the country you happen to be in
way to not answer the question...
uka what demographic do you represent?
Uka,
I thought us Jews controlled the banks, the media, and the government. If we run the whole country how can we be leeches, that would make you the leech. Please get your racism correct next time.
I wouldn't mock the Jews if I were you. They are God's people, and that's part of why they can't be beaten over there. What's happening there isn't right and the fact Israel is scrutinized for launching a counter-offensive is pretty vindictive of how the world reacts to anything relating to God. But, hey, you'll all find out soon anyway. God bless.
I am a person that does not want to pay for inbred satanic jews to murder little girls and spike the cost of gasoline 1000% but we destroyed iraq and libya for pissrael archenemy and they want iran next after getting beat in lebanon they can only bomb little girls from 2 miles up. jerry l they are still leeches even though they control it all they use the media to brainwash americans to send money there and use their banks to loot trillions from the bailout but you know that already
Uka--
Actually, let's stop you right at the beginning of that last rant. You are not a person, you are a piece of sh-t who should be eliminated.
Most people like reading proper English and seeing that someone actually knows how things work in truth in the world, but you wouldn't know anything about those, would you uka?
uka-2327001, you are suspended for a week for violating rules # 1 and # 5 of the Code of Honor.

Archiem---Uka2327001 is an ass. Just consider the the source. Things always work out.
Basil, you are nothing but a zionist troll! The good Jewish people are embarrassed that the zionist controlled Likud party is trying to start WW III for their Rothschilds banking cartel masters.
Basil . . Your claims are ridiculous. How about you have a nice long debate with Mr Verify.
uka-2327001banned for anti-Semitic remarks.
'UNILATERAL military strikes?' What kind of 'journalism' is this? Who attacked whom first???
Crappy Journalism. I am sure i can find some second graders who could do better.
This is a drill to make sure their Iron Dome system works before the Iran attack. They a re testing the system on a real scenario against Hamas. Remember Hamas stated that rockets will rain and obliterate Tel Aviv if Israel attacked Iran!!! well, There are two objectives here, getting Hamas to a non functional weakened state and second, to test the Iron dome system. If these two are successful i can guarantee it, they will attack Iran pretty soon. For those who question what's the point? the answer is simple, Iran is the backdrop to all their sorrows. Iran backs up every hostile intention against their state most of the time and by Iran having support in Iraq now thanks to Bush, the problem gets bigger!
Thanks to Bush?.........You think we should just kiss their *ss!
The last question in the article is really the main point I think. When does it ever end? one side fires warning shots in retaliation to the other side and it just goes back and forth never ending.
Israel is writting checks that they expect the United States to guarantee.
Tell Hamas and co where you live and ask them to start lobbing projectiles your way... you might change your mind after the 94th one.
Well Archeim, if I was squatting on land that doesn't belong to me, I would expect to be bombed.
How do you feel about when the Romans kicked the Jewish people out of the area way before Islam existed?
No, Ryan, they are defending their women and children and other civilians against rockets, using any means they can. Just like the US and any other country would. If the US stopped giving Israel support, are you really stupid enough to think they would stop trying to defend their population? Actually, you probably are...
Haha, none of you even know how the state of Israel was established or what it was right before, do you?
Jayborino,
It was the Jewish homeland occupied by Arab usurpers that moved in after Rome and Christians weakened the place.
End the Arab occupation of Judea!
With any luck Egypt will side with their brotherhood and slam Israel. Its about time something is done about this Jew scourge. If the dumb ass Americans still want to defend these rascists, being the Jews, then do the same to the occupiers. Good ridance instigators.
Jew Scourge? Well at least we know you arent hiding your anti semitism. As i told to Ryan above, please tell Hamas where you live, and ask them to start lobbing projectiles your way.
archenemy before hamas would lob roman candles at me I would have to steal their land shoot their kids starve them bomb them sanction and blockcade them bulldoze houses etc them they might lob bottle rockets at me
Roman candles?
I'll finish responding to you when i finish laughing at you.
Well the answer to YOUR problem is, get out of land that does NOT belong to you. Are all Jews that simple not to realize that this land was STOLEN from the Palestinians after WW2? Of course you don't, the JEWS think that the world is theirs to do with what they want because the United States sits on their shoulders. Take United States out of the picture, the only thing left where Israel once was would be a hole.
Hey Let's Play Fairy--
In the 30 seconds before your comment gets collapsed, let me give you a big "f-ck you".
archeimy they are bottle rockets made in a garage a ss wipe do you think the pals launch laser guided rockets from satellites?
lets... and it was stolen from the Jews from the Romans (Emperor Hadrian to be exact) long before the existance of Islam.
But please dont let that get in the way of your propaganda.
Hey Sav, you a jew? Obviously the truth hurts and the first thing that you people can do is shut down and say its anti semitec. By the way Se·mit·ic
(s-mtk)
adj.
1. Of or relating to the Semites or their languages or
cultures.
2. Of, relating to, or constituting a subgroup of the
Afro-Asiatic language group that includes Arabic, Hebrew, Amharic, and
Aramaic.
n.
1. The Semitic languages.
2. Any one of the Semitic languages....... again the Jews take a word this time and make it their own. Anti semitic has nothing to do with just the Jews. Go back to school.
lets... you actually were responding to me and not Sav...
you used the words "Jew Scourge" i'm pretty sure that that makes you an anti-semite (of the I hate Jews kind)
Letsplayfair,
If you are going to post please get your facts correct. The land of Palestine first was never a country and it was under Ottoman control until they sided with Germany in WW I (not II). England and France took control and divided the land into countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, etc.
In 1948 there was a vote in the UN and two countries were established Israel and Palestine except the Palestinians refused it. Israel has been there 64 years so at what point are the Palestinians going to accept this and try to create a country that might do some good for their people.
LetsPlayFair-2938571, you are suspended for a week for violating rule # 5 of the Code of Honor.
Thank you Sally. Excellent as always :)
I am sick of this crap, a lot of people don't have enough sense to be decent. You show hate, racism to people who think different then you. I think I am finish on these blogs period. It ruins my days when I read all the crap, my time is more valuable then reading and responding to all lthis junk that people write---There is enough hate and pain in this world without all this crap wrote on these blogs. We live with it daily, hope it makes you all happy who are non believers of God and hate people, especially Jew, not to mention other races. Their is more racism toward Jews that there are to black, and I though that was bad enough, but now I discover there are more hatred toward Jews than any other race. Shame on you all. Hate to say this, but all your lives could change in the blink of an eye the tabales could be chanagd. But since I believe in God and Lord Jesus Chirst--May God Bless you all.
Dear Frankie Little: I'm with you 100%. But please don't leave us. We need you.
uka is a stinking, bloody muslim. He abuses his women and believes in a hateful god. My camel radar is all over his smelly butt. I have outed another filthy muslim who pretends to be a human being. allah akbar. His filthy demon god tells him to kill Jews and Christians. Just give that animal a pig blood cocktail. He's preparing to put on his suicide belt. First he'll smoke a little Lebanese hash for courage. He knows that the word assassin is derived from the word hashishian... another great arab invention like 9/11, beheading infidels, suicide vests, and underwear bombs. These devils changed our way of life forever and should be exterminated like the rats they are. Make no mistake about it, these idiots are muslims pretending to be people, albeit antisimitics. Don't listen to their filth as they can only impress other weak minded idiots and unicorn riding liberals. My camel radar doesn't miss a beat, uka has been outed.
you people here that are saying well how long would you let someone lob roman candles at you get me sick. the jews stole the land starve the people in biggest prison camp on earth shoot little kids bulldoze houses etc. now I know you yellow "americans" would cower in your mothers basement if that was happening to you but the pals have way more courage then you demented pshycos
Last i checked "Courage" is not defined by launching rockets and mortars in civilian areas and hiding behind the skirts of mothers, because they fear reprisal.
They fit the description of terrorists, but because we fund them we aren't allowed to say that out loud. We at somepoint announced they were right and everyone else was wrong - based upon what? We like their religion just a bit more
If they are being starved why is their life expectancy over 74 years, which ranks them 74th out of a 193 countries
Archeim, you mean something like the Jews sending in their missles from planes at 1 target , hitting other targets by error, ya sure. The only difference here is that Israel uses more sophisticated weapons. Why don't they go in on their feet and see what happens to them.
lets... recall cast lead? If i remember correctly (and i do) Hamas was hoping for more captured/killed IDF soldiers... that didnt happen.
Ok seriously... the land was not stolen. It was a British Mandate following WWI because the Ottomans were on the losing side. When the mandate ended, it was fair grabs because the UN didn;t do what they needed to and extend the mandate until a real, unified government could be created... and the population was almost 50% Jewish at that point. It's not like a small handful of Jews just swpt in within one month and took over the country, it ad been happening since the late 1800's. The Palestinians refused to be apart of the new government so this problem is equally both sides' fault as well as the rest of the world for not making sure the region was stabilized before letting the indigenous people take control. This problem started 60 years ago and we still have to deal with their religious partisan garbage.
Jayborino,
The Mandate never ended. It was upheld and fleshed out at the San Remo Conferance. The same body that "created" the borders of Iraq, Lebenon, Syria, Saudi Arabia...
This agreement;+ ALL pre-existing international agreemnts by the way, was upheld in the UN founding Charter: Chapter 80.= convienently overlooked by "experts" in international law.
If anything the British re-neged on the agreement. The Arabs got a really good deal: In the end after the Arabs whittled away "(trans)-Jordan" for a Palestinian/Hashemite state, the Arabs got 99.75% of the available turf + All the oil.
You're absolutely right, though the mandate did actually end in 1948, over 20 years after San Remo. That's when the Zionist organizations declare Israel a state and the rest of the world just went with it because
1) The Holocaust had just happened
2) Jews were a legitimate portion of the population
3) The UN had no internationally recognized reason to stop it
Jayborino,
Nice to have you in the choir.
It looks like Israel will destroy a good portion of Hamas' missiles in Gaza, plus what ever amount Hamas manages to launch. Hamas' missile count is going to go down by the hundreds. They will have to make that up somehow. Israel destroyed the missile making/assembly plant in Sudan from which these missiles came via Iran. Now Iran will have to replenish them. How to get them there? It's going to cost a lot to make more missiles then transport them. It's going to be harder to do this with the santions in place and more capable intelligence assests. This will help bankrupt Iran if they want to pay the price.
