Israel started drafting 16,000 reserve troops on Friday as Egypt's prime minister visited the Gaza Strip to show support for Palestinians amid a cross-border conflict with Hamas militants that risks spiraling into an all-out war.

NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin is in Gaza, where a temporary cease-fire declared by Israel at Egypt's request collapsed after both sides accused the other of violating it. Earlier today Ayman answered questions from our online audience about the Israel-Gaza conflict. Please click on the box below to read a transcript.

JSF49 said-- "By that reasoning, USA should have kept Germany, France, Africa, China, Japan, and so on. But we did the right thing (for once) and, instead of acting like an empire, we built those countries back up and made real democracies out of most of them. This is what an honorable civilization does. This is what a sensible, practical country does. This is what Israel could have done, but chose not to."

Again, lack of knowledge here. One needs to read up on all that Israel has offered to the Palestinians to help develop. And to offer really important projects to work together on, such as the very serious problem of lack of Water in that region. Projects that would help Palestinians (and others) develop their land better. And so much more.

And talk about "make real democracies out of most of them".... Do you know that Arabs live in Israel and are citizens there. And all citizens are allowed in the political parties and to create their own if they choose. Check out all the parties that exist in Israel, and their makeup.

Ignorance around here is really frightening.

Nothing lasts forever, including the 3 billion us tax dollars a year, Israel receives for weapons. In fact there is no money. It's all been a bankers scam done on the computer with fund transferrals. The US has been broke for years. It's just a matter of time before the world sees thru it's smokescreen.

They are firing 4th of July rockets because Israel has herded them into the Warsaw Ghetto pt2.
And are taking all of their freedoms, livelihoods and land away. I would shoot them off too, if that was done to me and my family..
And you can't say you wouldn't also, if you were in their shoes. You'd be lying.

There never was a place called Israel before 1946. Theodor Herzl created the title and the flag, in the late 1800's.The Jews wanted to escape Hitler and poverty so they flooded into Palestine in the 1930's. The Irgun, Hagganah and the Sterns Gang formed their terrorist group to clear the land of Palestinians, to make room for these European immigrants,, killing whoever got in their way, including the Brits, who backed off and let the League of Nations (the UN) take over. Then the Jews in Washington started helping them to relocate by furnishing weapons and money.
These people from Europe invading Palestine are not true Jews, but are mere clones, who joined Judaism or married a Jew to relocate to Palestine. They have no blood rights to the land.Any so-called Jew, who kills anyone is a false Jew. Remember the words of the law...."Thou shall not kill" "Thou shall not want your neighbors land" Thou shall not bear false witness.
Britain was wrong when they invaded Palestine and gave it to these thugs who call themselves Zionists.
End the Occupation NOW!Ps Even though there were Israelites/ Jacobites, in the Land of Palestine they never had the land long enough to call it Israel.Besides Jews are from the tribe of Judah,( Yehudis), and that leaves 11 other tribes with no claim to the land.

the only Palestine were the original Jewish People.

I read again, and again, Israel "stole" the land from Palestinians. This makes no sense. Historically, Jews have lived in the land "named by a Greek", it's the Greek designation of an area. It's got no connection with the group of Arabs now using the designation as a way to de- legitimatise Israel.

Herodotus ( Born around 484 BC. Birthplace, Halicarnassus Greece, now Bodrum, Turkey. Died around 430 BC) is to blame for this common misconception. Or being unfamiliar with his writings are.

Between Persia and Phoenicia lies a broad and ample tract of country, after which the region I am describing skirts our sea, stretching from Phoenicia along the coast of Palestine-Syria
till it comes to Egypt, where it terminates

Sourced from the (Massachusetts Institute of technology) MIT.edu E library of the classics.

Palestine-Syria, was a term used to refer to a Geographic area, like New England.

Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, or New York, did not steal "New England" from the New English.

"Palestine" was the Greek and Roman term for the area that the Jewish people among others, inhabited. There is in fact no historical documentation suggesting an Arab presence in the land called Palestine from Assyrian, Persian, Greek or Roman historical documents.

Arabs did not arrive until around 634 to 638 AD and the conquest of Jerusalem. There has never been a nation, or state, of Arabs calling themselves "Palestinians". Never, it's like saying I stole your Unicorn. While you are of course free to miss your Unicorn, few will take you seriously.

fit and foremost the land belongs to Israel period! Not Palestine period!!

    Genesis 15:17-21

    New King James Version (NKJV)

17 And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. 18 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying:

“To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— 19 the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, 20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girga@!$%#es, and the Jebusites.”

      Genesis 17:7-8

      New King James Version (NKJV)

7 And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. 8 Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”

This an everlasting covenant with and by the God ofr Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. Not allah. This has nothing to do with 1947. But throughout all eternity. So it is Israeli land and will always will be, and not Palestines Period! Palestinians do not have rights as a State, they are but visitors, and not land owners.

          Reply#33 - Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:21 PM EST

Palestinians are land theives and squatters, not the owners. They and the rest of the Arab nation only want to destroy Israel, and not live in peace. If there is a problem with that then Ask the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

what utter garbage that was? The Palestinians don't want to live in peace, they want to live in and control Israel. It figures that garbage like this would be put out by NBC.

              Reply#35 - Sat Nov 17, 2012 2:16 PM EST

Palestinians have no claim to the land. They were forced out of Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, and Iran. No one wants them because of they way they act. No country will take them. They are not allowed into Jordan. Lebanon puts them in refugee camps. They fight with everyone and even among themselves. They do not have an identity either as a people or as a nation. They have no right to Gaza or to the West Bank. Israel gave it to them and still they want to kill every Israeli and drive them away. Palestinians are never, ever going to change. They will continue to live or die in abject poverty and misery for eternity. They are incapable of changing, learning, or creating a better world for themselves. They are mired in self pity and victimhood! More the pity.

What prompted Hamas to start firing at Israel?

Why, simply because the person did not spout the narrow minded bigoted rhetoric that you wanted to hear? Grow up and get real!

if Mexico launched a continuum of missiles at Houston, Dallas, San Antonio etc, would/Should the US stand idolly by? Of course not!! Neither should Israel. Hamas intentionally launching missiles from sights near schools, hospitals and other residential areas solely for public opinion.....They are a criminal government..... The deaths of their "military" wing is a blessing to all, including their own citizens of Gaza who they hide behind.

Here's a question for Ayman Mohyeldin:

Why do the media neglect to mention that Hamas refuses to acknowledge Israel's right to exist?

Why not also mention that the Hamas Charter calls for the killing of all Jews?

Israel the "ally" of the USA is as always in the midst of issues. The ally that gets 3.5 Billion annually for more than 30 years now and many many forgiven loans amounting to many more Billions. The "ally" that conducts the largest espionage campaign against the USA, The "ally" that attacked the USS Liberty. The "ally" that built walls hiding entrances to nuclear development facilities in order to fool weapons inspectors. The ally that funds AIPAC & the ADL to lobby and spy for any cause advancing Israeli interest.
