But no, Israel has to be ridiculous and childish about it, and Hamas has no choice but to fight Israel. How can Obama stomach to give military weaponry to Israel all so that they can oppress people? We've given them a bunch of F-22's and tanks. It's disgusting. Hamas has been trying to do diplomatic means for years and years, and Israel ain't interested. I laugh each time someone claims Israel started this. Really? If someone fired rockets almost daily to your country, city, town, or home you would easily get as tired as the Israelis. Israel had enough and after taking so much shrapnel, decided to fight back. I'm with Israel on this one, and they have every right to defend themselves.

Newswinner... Read up on the Clinton Camp David 2000 peace deal he tried to broker between the two. Israel gave into demands of a homeland and Arafat wanted more and more. Israel offered to withdraw close to the 67 borders with a land swap giving Palestine over 91% of land back, with Israel and the US donating 10's of billions of $$ to compensate for the other land taken. They also offered to give up part of Jerusalem for a Palestinian capital and to allow 100,000 refuges to return. What more should Israel offer? To cease to exist? It was all rejected. The deal was again offered in 2008 by Olmert and was again rejected. The only thing Israel was negotiating for was peace.

68% of the Palestinian people at the time supported Arafat's walking away from the deal, most stated that the only acceptable deal would be the total destruction of Israel. Hamas' statement was that every single Jew, man woman, and child should be driven into the sea and anything less was unacceptable.

Here is what it usually happens, the coward terrorists use civilians as shield to launch missiles at Israel, then Israel launch back 10 times the amount and kill 10 times more people which most of the time are innocents women and children.

The main problem is that two very culturally-opposite nations dispute the same land, claiming their alleged rights on ancestral historical traditions that each side interprets on their particular interested version. Which side is right? I believe we will probably never know for sure. However, history teaches us that in situations like these the mightest and richer nation usually prevails. In this sense, being objective, the palestineans are no military match for the israelites (compare the the death tolls on each side). In a full-blown war, Israel can easily obliterate the palestineans. I am not taking sides with Israel; just stating a known fact. If I were a palestinean, I would want my government or representatives to recognize the true facts of the present situation and find alternative land where I can live and prospere in peace. Notice that we only hear one side chanting "Death to Israel!", but I have never heard the other side chant "Death to the palestineans!". They ought to stop with those chants if they really want peace.

I am constantly amazed at the ignorant, uninformed people who come on here and try and blame Israel for what is happening. They act like Israel took the action they did without provocation, which could not be further from the truth. Israel is not the aggressor here, they responded to over 100 rockets that Hamas fired into Israel before the Israelis fired a single shot. As for the civilian casualties, no one is to blame for these besides the cowards in Hamas. They hide their weapons caches and rocket launchers in civilian homes. This virtually guarantees civilian casualties when Israel strikes at the launch sites. It is absurd to fault Israel for these civilian deaths. Hamas deliberately places their launchers in civilian areas and in civilian homes so that they can then show pictures of dead civilians to try and gain sympathy. The reality is that Hamas does not care about civilians dying, if they did they would stop using them as human shields. Israel has every right to defend themselves and they have no reason to apologize for civilian casualties that are caused by Hamas' own actions. If Hamas is going to hide their stockpiles of rockets and launchers in the basements of civilian homes then it should be expected that those civilians are going to die. It is completely unreasonable to expect Israel not to try and destroy these stockpiles because Hamas is using their own people as human shields. The people of Gaza elected the terrorists of Hamas as their leaders and now they have to accept the consequences of that action. If they do not want any more civilian casualties they need to stop Hamas from using them as shields.

As for those who try and make claims about rights to the land, they really need to better educate themselves. To start with, the term Palestinians is a made up name that never existed before 1948. The people calling themselves Palestinians are nomadic Arabs and they never had any kind of permanent presence or settlement in the area that is now Israel. They were nomadic tribes that never established any real civilization in the region. This great ancestral homeland they claim a right to return to never existed to start with. This is the reason why all but the most fanatical of the Palestinians have completely dropped this idea of a right of return. @Zardoz's history of the region is sorely lacking and designed to support his obviously biased views. He does not even bother to mention the time that the area was controlled by the Romans with their massive port and administrative center in Caesarea. I would also point out that many lands have changed hands throughout history either through treaty, war, or for other reasons. Just because a certain people once lived in an area thousands of years ago does not give them a right to that land today.

So, Hamas fires hundreds of missiles at Israel. Israel takes it and even uses their iron dome to stop most of the missiles directed at populated areas (which causes less casualties on the Israel side) Israel fights back but Gaza has no missile defense like Israel does and so they acquire more deaths because Hamas targets tend to be in populated areas. Now I see you people bitching about Israel being the bully? @!$%#ing pathetic, how about you try living in southern Israel and having to fear every day whether or not you'll be the next one to die to a Hamas missile. Now try actually feeling that every day of your life till you either die of old age or you are unlucky enough to have a missile land right in the middle of your house, how would you feel? Now about your point of the innocent women and children. It is a shame on all accounts. Women and children losing their lives in the retaliatory offensive is unfortunate, but using women and children as weapons smugglers and suicide bombers is equally unfortunate. The problem is, in a war, the lines get blurred between which are innocent and which are not (although, for the most part, the young kids used don't really understand what they are doing, so it would be hard to blame them). Let me make this point: one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting a different result. In other words, if you keep firing into Israel while trying to hide in and amongst innocent people, you are just as equally to blame for any loss of those innocent lives around you because your actions brought the war to them as well.

Israel and the Palestinian people have been at constant war. In modern history, since the state of Israel was carved out, between these two biological brothers, there has been gun attacks and assassinations. If Abbas of the Palestinians and Netanyahu were to reach an agreement about Palestinian land division and the legimate rights of the Palestinian people, on both sides, there would still be regional groups that would continue to fight for war. There is no foreseable conclusion to this bloodshed and this is sad.

Palestinians are not decendants of Philistines, although they do start with the same letter, so I can see the confusion. "Palestinians" are Arabs, and their progeny who happened to reside in Palestine in 1967- An area encompassing parts of what is now Israel and Jordan under the British Mandate. Both Arabs and Israelis claim ancestery to Abraham. Jewish Tradition puts Abraham sometime between 1812 BCE to 1637 BCE. If you're looking at historical claim, both groups have a pretty good argument.

However, superior military, economic, and social infrastructure leans toward the country of Israel now. A country has the right to defend it's territory and it's citizens. If hamas was truly interested in the welfare of the Palestinian people, it wouldn't launch missles into Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. One, both cities have a significant Palestinian population. Two, Israel is going to retaliate with more firepower and resources than the Palestinians can hope to match.

The international community isn't considering giving Prussia back to the Germans or North and South America countries back to their respective tribes, or Istanbul back the Byzantines. The Taliban recognized Chechnya as a state, so there is some precedence.

Here's the thing. Who cares who was there first? It doesn't matter. The most powerful country in the world is the US and guess what? We weren't here first.

WOW...we have tons of information about the Palestinians (I mean children AND a pregnant woman) but next to nothing about the 3 Israeli civilians killed. What Officials in Gaza are we talking about?

Frank, my thoughts are the same, Obama says he supports Israel. Yet he disses Netanyahu by ignoring him and sympathizes with the Muslim Brotherhood that also supports the Palestinian cause. The Muslim Brotherhood isn't working out too well in Libya also where AQ has too much influence as Benghazi proved. Trustworthiness and credibility evades him consistently.

There was once a thriving community of Jews in the Arabian Peninsula. One only needs to read the Hadith of Bukhari and Ibn Ishaq to understand why they are now extinct. They say the palestinians/hamas lob some 300 morters a day, on average and indiscriminately in to Israel that doesn't get reported on the news. Yet some people think the Israelis are the oppresors. I'd like to know what news channel some of these people watch.

I also don't hear of Israel sending suicide bombers in to blowup innocent people that are shopping at open markets or just riding buses.

Israel needs to just take care of its problems once and for all and be done with it. That includes iran and any other middle eastern countries that seem to have a problem with Israel existing in that region. They beat syria, turkey and jordan all at one time and in six days once. I see no reason why they couldn't take care of all their problems in 30 days or less if they just got down to business.

We put up a blockade to Cuba, plus sanctions, they didn't fire rockets at us. They only sent people that we now support with jobs and a livelihood.. I watch Miami Housewives, they are gutter trash people. On another note, when you put people in a box, cut off their life support they will fight to get out. Yet another ignorant post. Israel pulled all of it's settlers out of Gaza 7 years ago and there have been rocket attacks ever since. Israel still builds in the West Bank yet no rockets are being launched from there. When are you going to realize Hamas doesn't want it's own state, They made it clear repeatedly they seek the destruction of Israel and nothing less.

Report: Rockets Fired from Egypt Hit Israel

Two major Israeli newspapers are reporting that rockets fired from Egypt have hit Israel.

"Terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula launched rockets into Israel Friday night," reports the Jerusalem Post. "The rockets fell near an Israeli village on the southern border, causing some damage, but no injuries."

The Israeli daily Haaretz reports, "Rockets fired from direction of Egypt toward Eshkol Regional Council."

It appears no damage was reported in connection with the rocket fire from Egypt. Earlier today, the Egyptian prime minister visited Gaza to express solidarity with the Palestinians there.

This new front comes a day after a rocket landed near Tel Aviv and on the same day Israel's capital Jerusalem was the target of rocket fire. Those attacks were courtesy of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

"After Tel Aviv metropolitan area, capital under fire too: An air raid siren was sounded in Jerusalem and surrounding communities early Friday evening. After residents reported hearing blast sounds, security forces confirmed that one rocket had landed in the Gush Etzion area near a Palestinian village," Ynet reports.

"There were no reports of injuries or damage. This was the first air raid siren sounded in the area since the IDF launched Operation Pillar of Defense in the Gaza Strip. Air raid sirens were sounded in southern communities throughout the day and a barrage of missiles hit the area."

For all of you posing the scenario, "if I shoot at your house, without hurting anyone, and then go and hide...". My first response, like most, would be to call the police. In this case, the UN. When the police fail to get to the bottom of it and, fail to keep you from coming back to shoot my house up again, you're going to die. Whether it be when you come back to try it again, or while you're sleeping in your hiding place. It's really simple folks. For those of you calling upon "history" to be our guide in solving this dispute claiming the Palestinians owned the land first, you'd better check in with the American Indians and see how that all turned out for them.

Try not be so childish as to believe that "your" sense of justice matters here. Hate, bigotry, racial/religious bias have existed on this planet since the dawn of man and isn't going away anytime soon just because you want it to. Is a culture worth of extinction simply because "we" don't like them? That depends on who the culture is and how big and powerful the "we" is! Rest assured that if the tables were turned here and radical Muslims were "in charge", the US and Israel wouldn't be around. Think about it...and grow up to embrace reality!

Have some perspective please. Zionists started this pre-1940 when they adopted terrorism as a means to claim the land that, allegedly, the man in the sky said they could have. The terrorist campaign was directed against the British. First there was Irgun which later split an offshoot called Lehi in 1940.

Lehi carried out murders of British officials as far away as Cairo. They were classified as a terrorist organization. They sided with the Nazis against the British seeking a formal agreement with them to export all unwanted European Jews to Palistine. The Nazis had other plans and told them where to go. They continued after their leader (Stern) was killed in 1942.

Post war they blew up trains killing more than a hundred, mostly civilians. On April 9 1948, Lehi and Irgun combined their attack on the town of Deir Yassin killing between 120 and 254 mostly civilians (Depends on which side's numbers you use). After this the Arab civilians fled rather than fight when confronted by armed Jews (the Arabs had been disarmed by the British). This was the tipping point in the war and it happened even before the British Mandate ended.

In 1949, the newly formed state of Israel pardoned all these terrorists. In 1980 Israel introduced the Lehi ribbon, a military honor. In 1982 postage stamps were issued honoring the Lehi assassins of Lord Moyne. Yitzhak Shamir, the former leader of Lehi, was elected Prime Minister of Israel (1983-84 and 1986-92).

This conflict goes beyond Israel and the Palestinians. Hamas is a proxy for Iran, which is a proxy of Russia. In the end it is all about oil and its control, especially price. This is just what some person in Israel caught on their camera while they were waiting near a bus stop.

But you can clearly see about a dozen interceptors fired at incoming missiles and you can hear the explosions. It's crazy! You can hear that the girl who was standing next to the guy was freaking out.

Just imagine what would've happened to that young man and that girl in the video (and many other people in that town/neighborhood) if all those rockets would have landed near them, instead of being intercepted by that anti-missile system.

The only reason there are not more casualties on the Israeli side, is that all the people in Israel know they have to seek shelter if they hear a siren. Or in the case of these young people in this video, they were lucky to be protected by Iron Dome.

The last time I checked it is not illegal to emigrate to property you bought through a legal document, even if you pay more than twice what the market rate for the land was.

By 1947, the Jewish people purchases had neared or exceeded 1/2 of the land. Great Britain recognized that if the majority of the land was owned by Israel and also in response to their near anilation under Hitler that as a kind gesture, that the Jews should have their own country.

When the British proposed an Israeli state, these countries attacked Israel in the name of the Palestinians. They did so with planes and tanks. The Israelis were had no air force, few tanks, and few anti aircraft weapons and still managed to defeat a well armed larger force of Arabs.

One of the more curious things I found was that the Israelis helped move palestininans out of battle fields and later helped move them back. They even held the lands of Palestinians who vacated to the Arab lines to be able to come back to reclaim any lands they had vacated. Some did, but many didn't who chose to follow Yassir Arafat.

Today, Israel is still a country that the land is owned by both Palestinians and Jews. The Palestinians not only can for Israeli district candidates for office, but also for a Palestinian only representation in the Knesset who holds veto power over Israeli actions.

1) 61 Israelis have been killed by rocket strikes in the last 11 years (which, of course, is truly a terrible thing-- please don't get me wrong). I'm not sure how many people have died due to cross-border violence between the United States and Mexican criminal factions, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's around that. And yet I hear very few people advocating a course of action that would kill thousands of Mexicans.

2) The US does not enforce a military blockade on Mexico. We aren't ignoring a clear obligation under international law to protect the safety of an occupied Mexico. Your analogy fails.

Your point is well stated and does have merit but I base my conclusions on years of observations of the ACTIONS of both sides of this conflict. Hamas is unrestrained and deliberate in the killing of innocents including children, the same cannot be said about Israel.

Israel should not stop until Hamas is COMPLETELY destroyed; no matter how long that takes. I say this because Hamas exists for only two reasons; the destruction of Israel and the murder of every Jew on earth. My posts are also from years of watching and studying the conflict only I read the Palestine side and the Israel side. there is a pattern to this that few seem to see Israel decide it's time to take another swap of land that has palatines living on it. 1st come the "rebel raids" where unknown attackers burn the crops, kill the livestock and assault the Palestine owners. Both side are at fault here but here the thing Iseral has a vastly superior military and vastly superior technology I fault them more because they always go overkill again and again and again. killing more people in one weekend then "hamas" has killed in 11 years with the rockets. @!$%# happens in War Zones maybe if Hamas puts the Rocket launching sites away from Palestinian civilian areas (schools, mosques, residential neighborhoods 8) civilians don't get thrashed.

I think this shows that Palestinians are for peace, Israel is not.

Perhaps if Palestine had trillions of dollars of aid to help them build and find jobs, etc...they would be able to elect a strong government for the people - but when you are constantly under siege, you will accept whomever is helping you dig through the rubble so that you can bury your child - and that happens to be Hamas.

The palestinians were expelled by force from Jordan by the jordanian military, Egypt refused to let them in also. Every arab and islamic country claims to support them, but none except them. They have a choice to live in peace and prosper but instead choose to murder.

There is such a thing as a treaty. There is such a thing as a mutual defense pact (which is a kind of treaty). There is no such thing, so far as I am aware, as a "war powers treaty" any more than there is a city called "Moskova" or a location known as the "Kremlen."

If they did "take" land, why did they take it. Was it won in war? I want proof. If you follow a charter declaring your hatred for, and continually harrassing and physically attacking your neighbor, than you are asking for retribution. I agree. Something needs to be done about the situation in Israel. It's the source for a great deal of the situation in the Entire Mid East. But even giving the Palestinians the Sinai won't help. They will still fire rockets and Israel will still respond with overwhelming force.

Sadly, I cannot disagree. If Egypt with U N support and international donors agreed to develop the Sinai as a new homeland for all the displaced victims of these wars since 1947 the Palestinians would still acquire rockets to lob at Israel. We put down rabid dogs and it is beginning to look as if some variant of genocide is the ONLY way to limit the turmoil in the area. We made mistakes after WWI - not making a homeland for the Kurds was one, and not creating a tolerant secular state in Palestine which would welcome European immigrants was another. It's hard to turn the clock back to 1919, but perhaps we have to.
