Hamas says 'land war' would cost Israeli PM Netanyahu the election

The violence continues in Gaza while negotiations between Hamas and Israel are taking place in Egypt. An estimated 100 Palestinians and three Israelis have been killed so far. NBC's John Ray reports.

Updated at 3:02 p.m. ET: GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- The leader of Hamas said Monday it was up to Israel to end the new conflict it had started, adding that a "land war" would cost Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the election.

"[Netanyahu] can do it, but he knows that it will not be a picnic and that it could be his political death and cost him the elections," Khaled Meshaal, exiled leader of Hamas, told a news conference in Cairo.

"Whoever started the war must end it," Meshaal said, adding that Netanyahu, who faces an election in January, had asked for a truce, an assertion a senior Israeli official described as untrue.

For its part, Israel said that while it was prepared to step up its offensive by sending in troops, it preferred a diplomatic solution that would end Palestinian rocket fire.

Israeli Vice Prime Minister Moshe Yaalon has said that "if there is quiet in the south and no rockets and missiles are fired at Israel's citizens, nor terrorist attacks engineered from the Gaza Strip, we will not attack."

According to a poll by Israel's Haaretz newspaper, 84 percent of Israelis supported the current Gaza assault, but only 30 percent wanted an invasion, while 19 percent wanted their government to work on securing a truce soon.

Acting as a mediator, Egypt said Monday that a deal for a truce to end the fighting could be close, as Israel bombed dozens of suspected guerrilla sites in the densely populated Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip in its campaign to quell militant rocket fire menacing nearly half of Israel's population.

Twelve Palestinian civilians and four fighters were killed in the sixth day of fighting, local officials said, raising the number of Palestinian dead to 101, the Hamas-run Health Ministry told Reuters, listing 24 children among them. Hospital officials in Gaza said more than half of those killed were non-combatants. Three Israeli civilians died on Thursday in a rocket strike and dozens others have been wounded.

Two sides exchange deadly airstrikes, rocket attacks.

Among the targets struck in Gaza City Monday was the Al Shorouq media building, which Israeli warplanes hit for the second straight day. The attack targeted a second-floor apartment used by a leading Islamic Jihad militant. He was killed and four others were injured, NBC News' Ayman Mohyeldin reported.

The Israeli military said it targeted only the floor used by the militants. “The senior [Islamic Jihad] cadre was operating in a media building. They weren’t there to be interviewed. They were using reporters as human shields,” it said on Twitter.

But the lower floors of the building caught fire, trapping journalists on the higher levels. Firefighters were trying to put out the blaze and get the journalists out of the building. The Hamas TV station is located on the top floor.

Family mourned
Thousands turned out on Gaza's streets Monday to mourn four children and five women, who were among the 11 people killed in an Israeli strike that flattened a three-story home the previous day.

The bodies were wrapped in Palestinian and Hamas flags. Echoes of explosions mixed with cries of grief and defiant chants of "God is greatest."

Israel said it was investigating the strike that brought the home crashing down on the al-Dalu family, where the dead spanned four generations. Some Israeli newspapers said the wrong house may have been mistakenly targeted.

Since Wednesday, 877 rockets have been fired from Gaza toward Israel, the Israeli military said Monday. Of those, 570 rockets have struck Israel while the country’s air defense system has intercepted 307, according to the military. Forty-five rockets were fired at southern Israel on Monday, causing no casualties, police said.

Israel's decision to step up targeted attacks on leaders in Gaza on Sunday marked a new and risky phase of the operation, given the likelihood of civilian casualties in the crowded territory of 1.6 million Palestinians.

A three-story building in Gaza was flattened by an overnight Israeli airstrike that was targeted at a Hamas militant. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

Negotiations inch forward
International efforts to wrest a cease-fire from the two sides has intensified despite the escalated hostilities. The failure to end the fighting could touch off an Israeli ground invasion, for which thousands of soldiers, backed by tanks and armored vehicles, have already been mobilized and dispatched to Gaza's border.

Leading cease-fire mediation efforts is Egypt, which borders both Israel and Gaza and whose Islamist-rooted government has been hosting leaders of Hamas.

“I strongly urge the parties to cooperate with all efforts led by Egypt to reach an immediate cease-fire," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said before leaving for Egypt. He visits Israel on Tuesday.

European Union governments also said they supported Egyptian efforts to mediate.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr, Arab League chief Nabil Elaraby and several other Arab foreign ministers will visit Gaza on Tuesday to show solidarity with Palestinians. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will accompany them, officials said.

Forces gather
Israel launched the current offensive Wednesday after months of intensifying rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, which continued despite the strikes.

Israeli tanks, artillery and infantry have massed in field encampments along the sandy, fenced-off border and military convoys moved on roads in the area. Israel has also authorized the call-up of 75,000 military reservists, so far mobilizing around half that number.

Overnight, aircraft targeted about 80 militant sites, including underground rocket-launching sites, smuggling tunnels and training bases, as well as command posts and weapons storage facilities located in buildings owned by militant commanders, the military said Monday in a release.

Aircraft and gunboats joined forces to attack police headquarters, and rocket squads were struck as they prepared to fire, the release said.

In all, more than 1,000 Gaza targets have been struck since the operation began.

Some Hamas rockets reached as far as Tel Aviv, Israel's commercial capital, but were shot down by the country's air defense system.

As a precaution against the rocket interceptions endangering nearby Ben-Gurion International Airport, civil aviation authorities said on Monday new flight paths were being used.

The only endgame is for Israel to annex the Gaza Strip and give its residents Israeli citizenship and all of the rights that come with it.. There's no two-state solution to this.

I guess if you add up the number of Israeli casualties and the number of Palestinian casualties over the last ten years, I think the Israelis are winning decisively, if death is what you use to gauge victory.

The reason for this tragedy is that Hamas continues to fire rockets at Israeli towns and villages.

That's the reason for this whole mess. If Hamas spent the hundreds of millions they get from Arab governments, and the Billions of Euros they got in aid from Europe and used it to improve the lives of the Palestinians instead of producing rockets in order to target Israeli civilians, then Gaza would be a peaceful tourist destination today, instead of a war zone.

The only reason that Israel is bombing Gaza is because their civilian population is living under constant rocket attacks from Gaza! On the other hand, the Palestinians in the West Bank aren't being bombed because they don't fire rockets at their neighbors. If there would be no more Hamas rockets, there would be no reason for anyone to bomb them.

If the Palestinians use all their resources and all their time in order to build hotels and businesses instead of rockets then their lives will be much better.

We can see how Netanhayu has no compassion for his OWN people. Many have died -innocent victims of war- while he safely continues his attack policy of hate from a safe place.

Dick Cheney comes to mind. The Israelis will pay the consequences of having a DICTATOR, instead of a leader. How is he any different from Sadam?

There is plenty of land in the Sahara desert, if they want to buy a place away from the Palestinians.

geektothebone - you, just like everyone else who doesnt have first-hand knowledge of palestinians should know that they've been the problem since the beginning. the land was never theirs to begin with and when it was donated to the UN by england and create israel they were allowed to stay there. heres the problem: THEY HATE JEWS AND WANT THEM DEAD. so after losing MANY wars (which they started themselves) they are annexed for the safety of the jews around them. oh, and for the record, this war was started because the palestinians fired 130 rockets at israel. so WOW, israel is defending itself. go figure!

if the palestinians cared at all about human life and their citizens they wouldnt continuously fire rockets at israel and they would be overjoyed to be accepted into israeli society. they dont know how to live amongst jews since theyve been taught to hate them for so many generations.

until they learn to respect human life, they will be annexed.

Not true if you know the real history.

Israel started off as a terrorist state towards those around them and the U.S. has been blindly giving them more and more aid without holding the accountable for their actions to those around them from the beginning.

I have no sympathy for Israel at all knowing what I know and what they have done and have been doing over the years.

The U.S. has helped create this mess from the beginning and needs to go in there and end this mess once and for all.

Israel needs to stop stealing land, shooting, bombing, killing people, and being bullies in general.

The U.S. needs to put their foot down and tell Israel enough is enough and its time to settle this and end it.

Under pressure from Egypt, Hamas is calling for a truce. Israel confirmed that it sent a diplomatic team to Cairo to discuss a possible cease fire. Yet no terms have been agreed to. However, cease fire demands from both sides are beginning to emerge in the local media.

What Hamas wants:

  1. Israel must completely lift the blockade on Gaza.
  2. Israel must stop its incursions into the Gaza Strip.
  3. Israel must stop targeted killings of faction leaders in Gaza.
  4. Israel must stop attacking Gaza fishermen and firing at them.

What Israel wants:

  1. The ceasefire must last for over 15 years.
  2. Weapons must no longer be let into Gaza.
  3. Hamas and the factions must stop shooting missiles and targeting Israeli forces on the border.
  4. Israel may conduct a “hot” pursuit into the Gaza Strip if it has information on an imminent attack.
  5. The removal of the blockade will be done from the Egyptian side, not the Israeli.
  6. President Morsi is the personal guarantor for the agreement, and not Egyptian security forces.

President Barack Obama said he has told Egypt's president, Mohammed Morsi, and Turkey's prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, that "those who champion the cause of the Palestinians should recognize that if we see a further escalation of the situation in Gaza, then the likelihood of us getting back on any kind of peace track that leads to a two-state solution is going to be pushed off way into the future."

How prophetic! It's this kind of brilliance that led to O'bamas Nobel Peace Prize!

If you want to ignore the truth that is your choice.

Israel has used the U.S. for their own gains and benefit.

The U.S. has stood by as if blinded the whole time.

Maybe they agree with it, but what has gone on since 1946 from Israels side has not been peace at all.

The palestinians complain of lack of food, etc but they have been able to make 15,000+ rockets. They hide their weapons in hospitals and schools and then they hide behind their children.

The Israelis should not agree to a cease fire unless all weapons are removed and the top 3 Hamas officials involved are turned over. Their holy book allows the palestinians to lie to any infidel, so actions will speak louder than words in resolving this conflict.

Israel has been pushing and picking for years now against these people.

It would be one thing to say Israel hasn't done anything at all.

But that is simply not the case as they have killed people, ignored people. and done what ever they please despite what anyone else in the world says or thinks.

The land dispute needs to end and the controlling needs to stop if you want peace.

JD - the land was owned by the UK and donated to the UN which gave it to the jewish people to create israel in 1948. where are they taking land they dont own? they SHOULD own the entire area if it werent for anti-semites trying to kill them.

rockmebritney - The land was owned by the people living on it. Britain had gained control over it at the close of WWI, with the demise of the Ottoman Empire.

Before 1948, the area now known as Palestine, was a multi-ethnic region, the majority of whose people were Muslim Arabs, the same people which now call themselves Palestinians, as in people of Palestine.

The land was not "donated to the UN". Britain ceded control because they were unwilling to deal with the the terrorist actions of Zionists, intent on recreating a nation which had disappeared 2,000 years ago. The UN. did not give it to the Jewish people. It divided it between the two main ethnic and religious groups living there: Muslim Arabs and Jews.

The largest portion of Palestine was accorded to the Jewish inhabitants, who constituted only a third of the population. A war ensued, in which Palestinians were systematically cleared off of land they had inhabited for centuries, and in which Israel seized most of the remaining land at stake.

Israel was not created out of uninhabited land which Great Britain just happened to have laying around. It was the result of intentional colonization, just like what we Americans did to the American Indians.

It cannot be undone. But it should not be denied either.

The Palestinians are not fooled by your rhetoric. They know that they have been colonized. They are angry about it.

You would be too.

they SHOULD own the entire area if it werent for anti-semites trying to kill them.

BTW: The Palestinians too, are considered Semites, just in case actual facts are important in your world.

Behind the Scenes: Palestinian Demonstrations

See what the Palestinians teach their CHILDREN????

I want to remind you that, seven years ago, Israel withdrew from every square inch of Gaza. Now, Hamas took over the areas we vacated. What did it do? Rather than build a better future for the residents of Gaza, the Hamas leadership, backed by Iran, turned Gaza into a terrorist stronghold. They fired thousand of rockets at our cities, at our towns, at our civilians, at our children. They’ve smuggled thousands of rockets and missiles into Gaza, and they deliberately place these rockets and missiles in civilian areas: in homes, in schools, near hospitals. This year alone, they fired over one thousand rockets and missiles at Israel, including close to 200 rockets in the last 24 hours....

I’m stressing this because it’s important to understand one simple point. There is no moral symmetry; there is no moral equivalence, between Israel and the terrorist organizations in Gaza. The terrorists are committing a double war crime. They fire at Israeli civilians, and they hide behind Palestinian civilians. And, by contrast, Israel takes every measure to avoid civilian casualties. I saw today a picture of a bleeding Israeli baby. This picture says it all: Hamas deliberately targets our children, and they deliberately place their rockets next to their children. Despite this reality – and it’s a very difficult reality – Israel will continue to do everything in its power to avoid civilian casualties....."

For Hamas, their "cause" is much more important than the lives of Palestinian civilians....in fact they "USE" civilian deaths and injuries to fuel their "cause", by deliberately setting up rocket launches between occupied apartment buildings, thus luring in Israeli attacks against the rocket men, and "hoping" that an Israeli response will kill or injure Palestinian refugees for the selfish propaganda machine of Hamas.

Hamas sets up their primitive, but deadly, rocket launchers very quickly, fire the rockets and flee quickly to avoid Israeli counter-fire...they do this without forewarning their own civilians that they are placing them in the heart of a bulls-eye.

These brave Islamic soldiers use/hide in heavily populated areas.

When they are bombed or attacked, they show weeping and chest beating children and women! Media counts them!

When these very Islamic "warriors"/terrorists attack, they attack heavily populated areas.

As if this is not enough, they attack hospitals to kill even the injured!

Why most are ignoring the children and women blown up to pieces or injured here?

Are there different laws for one-way traffic Muslims and all street traffic non-Muslims?

Israel should bomb the Hamas areas to ground and not send soldiers to enemy areas.

Judging by how little Barry is doing - other than to allow Israel to twist in the wind - escalation, not mediation, seems to be the likelier path.

Hamas is interested only in the destruction of the Jewish State. Anybody else see the irony in the demand by Hamas that the Israelis stop killing their military leaders while they focus their efforts on killing citizens? As pointed out in posts above, the muslims sacrifice their own citizens by hiding among them while pointing their own weapons at the citizens of Israel.

It would surely be a shame if the Gaza strip was turned into a giant parking lot and some semblance of peace was retored to the region.

Gaza has been under a Israeli blockade for years. That alone is an act of war. Everyone talks about Israel's right to exist, but don't the Gazan's also have that right?

Chuck in Olathe

...the fact they don't speaks to their sense of morals as they don't want to kill innocents either.

Just like in the Bible, when the Israelites executed their unprovoked attack on Jericho.

Joshua 6:21 - And they utterly destroyed all that [was] in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

The Holy Bible may preach peace, but but when it is Christendom or Judaism itself that is threatened it is every Christians duty to defend all that is holy! His Holiness the Pope should call a crusade to reclaim the Holy Lands from the infidel, who deny Christian and Jewish Pilgrims their right to visit the Holy Places. It is time for the armies of Christendom to put aside their differences and unite under one banner, the sign of The Cross, and give back to God's Children what is rightfully theirs, or die trying.

@ expat7 There is no such thing as a Palestenian State, so no, the "Gazan's" don't have that same right, especially when Western Records have stated Israel and it's borders for as far back as Western Records go! It is Jewish Lands. Do your history, find about the Habiru, an ancient nomadic people, warriors who finally gave up wandering and fighting to defend and farm and protect Egypt's northeast border for the Egytians. It was after generations and generations that the Habiru were treated worse and worse as people by each pharaoh (research both the egyptian and hebrew accounts http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habiru ) until they finally left Egypt, the Bible says they left "armed"... well, I'll spare you the history lesson. But they became the Hebrew, whose kings built Jerusalem and carved out a small Jewish nation among many enemies.

Find out about the crusades. Then turn to world war 1, where the Ottoman Empire (Muslims) lost control of the territory and the British took over. Learn about World War 2, where millions of Jews didn't have a homeland, a place we gave them when the war ended, look at the consequences of that situation. That is their state, which all Western Civilization recognizes as it's own, the Jews and Hebrews and Israelis have been very tolerant so far. The Dome should be torn down and their own Temple rebuilt, and this discussion of splitting Jerusalem and Israel does nothing good for anyone. There is no "Palestine" therefore there shouldn't be Palestinians. (Do your roman history here to find out why.) Give muslims in Gaza and the rest of Israel an ultimatum to evacuate or be destroyed.

Let the Jews have a homeland, and support our allies. You think the Muslim Brotherhood has anything good in store for Israel or America? Hamas and Hezbollah have taken oaths to destroy both Israel and America. Don't believe me, listen to the co-founder of Hezbollah in this video:

Judging by how little Barry is doing - other than to allow Israel to twist in the wind - escalation, not mediation, seems to be the likelier path.

You are right Chuck....Myanmar is so much more important...

It is absurd the way Hamas cries about civilian casualties when they themselves use their own people as human shields. It is all designed to try and gain sympathy by intentionally manufacturing civilian casualties. I think that the number of civilian casualties has been remarkably low considering Hamas' tactics of hiding their rocket launchers and weapons stockpiles in civilian homes, schools, and even hospitals. These Hamas terrorists will set up a rocket launcher right outside the entrance to a hospital and then dare the Israelis to hit it. Then when there is damage to the hospital they sit there and whine about it. They do not care about their own people, so why should the Israelis. The Israelis have shown more compassion for the civilians in Gaza than Hamas has and they have taken great pains to minimize civilian casualties.

I laugh at Egypt being the one trying to negotiate a cease fire while at the same time supporting Hamas and their terrorist actions. Erdogan from Turkey and many of the other Arab leaders are no better. They fear terrorist attacks in their own cities so they will not renounce Hamas for instigating this mess to start with. They are afraid that if they say anything negative about the terrorists then they will be attacked as well. Also, many of the weapons that Hamas is using to attack Israel were smuggled into Gaza through their border with Egypt. Since the fall of Mubarak, the Muslim Brotherhood controlled Egyptian government has completely failed in its responsibility to keep weapons from being brought into Gaza. Not only have they stopped trying keep the weapons from transiting through Egypt into Gaza, they have been actively helping to arm Hamas. Now Hamas has the nerve to make a lifting of the blockade designed to try and keep weapons out of Gaza a requirement for them to stop shooting. This is absurd. The blockade has not prevented any peaceful materials from being delivered to Gaza, it is just that Hamas wants to be able to import more weapons without having to try and hide it. Instead of using all of the money they get in foreign aid from Arab countries to try and improve the lives of their citizens, the Hamas led government in Gaza uses that money to buy and build weapons. Then they whine about the plight of their people and try and blame Israel for it. If they would simply stop shooting rockets at Israel and use the money to improve things in Gaza, the area could turn into an economic center instead of being a war zone. With the beautiful Mediterranean beaches that Gaza has it could turn into a major tourist destination, that is if the fighting stopped and people felt safe to go there. What is comes down to is that Hamas does not want peace with Israel and nothing anyone does, short of completely wiping out Hamas, is going to change that.

Bombs Away!

Seriously, if Al Quaeda took over a county in the United States we would roll in and destroy them, with as little loss of civilian life as possible. But we wouldn't allow those civilians to remain camped out there. Isreal, as far as I am concerned, should do the same. Roll in, and exile the inhabitants. They don't only out of a desire not to fight a grand regional war, which is smart. But if they were strictly doing the right thing, that is exactly what they would do.

Obama fake outs just show the one party only voting mentality at work. Flawed and insufficient, whether you like to wear a Democrat or Republican pin. Thankfully none of the one party vaporheads decided who got elected...again.

Got to move on with people who THINK. Those who do know that the US backs Isreal and the only people who cry otherwise show their own flaws, not that of our government.

God is against murder, not war as a neccessity. The OT was a different time. The things that came with and after Christ(if you believe) are what you should concentrate on, more than our God as an angry God in the OT.

Up until a few weeks ago, we never heard about all the rockets being fired into Israeli territory by Hamas. It just doesn't get any news. Would the US tolerate rockets being fired at us year after year? This lack of news is similar to when SH was daily ignoring the NO-fly zone in Iraq. So in both cases it was just a daily event.

In order to fire those rockets, those rockets must have been smuggled into Gaza. This is precisely what the Israelis are trying to stop but obviously are limited with any success. So if they allow anything to be shipped into Gaza they risk even more weaponry brought in to increase the violence.

Those siding with Hamas consistently say they condemn the rocket attacks, but they understand that Hamas has no choice since Israel is being unfair. I have heard this POV over and over again on talk radio from those calling in that pretty much hate Israel. This POV is growing especially from the hard left in this country and of course from the UN that does not see Hamas as a terrorist organization. If Hamas leaders were on the up and up they would be out in public just like Israeli leaders that can be seen and interviewed. Instead they hide fearing for their lives because they operate as terrorists.

Nothing will solve this situation. The US has tried to broker a deal and now Egypt? That is really a joke. Israel is going to listen to the Muslim Brotherhood? No way. Maybe it is time to let an all out war get underway and let these two duke it out themselves.

@Coral Taxi

Sir, with that mentality, if anyone were invaded, your suggestion would be to give up and give in, not to put up a fight at all, because of war. Thomas Aquinas, a much renowned Theologian and Scholar said:

In order for a war to be just, three things are necessary. First, the authority of the sovereign. Secondly, a just cause. Thirdly, a rightful intention.

- Thomas Aquinas

Israel seems to have all of these things. The Old Testament was different you're right, but is not the splitting of Jerusalem predicted in the New Testament as a sign of the end times? Do you want that?

On the political scale of things:

Since love and fear can hardly coexist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved.

- Niccolò Machiavelli

What harm would it do to give the Jewish people their own state. Face it, this comes down to religous differences. The whole region is Muslim, give them the evacuation orders from Israeli land that WE gave them in 1946 when they had no place to go. A place they defended shortly thereafter in the six days war. And Egypt may be playing like they don't care or peace is the way to go, but between Iran, Egypt, Syria, and other Islamic countries in the region....Egypt siding with the U.S. is a show.

Support our allies and Israel should be foremost among them. Ask yourself what does "Western Civilization mean" or "Eastern Civilization." Figure it out. We need to side with who anyone since the founding of Christendom has sided with. Our forefather's (White) toiled tremodously under trying to crusade and take Jerusalem. Islam has and always will be any NON MUSLIM's enemy. That mean's atheist, buddhist, ...etc.

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with
nonbelievers for the sake of Islamic rule. Some are quite graphic, with
commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be
hiding. Muslims who do not join the fight are called
'hypocrites' and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join
the slaughter.

Unlike nearly all of the Old
Testament verses of violence
, the verses of violence in the Quran are mostly
open-ended, meaning that they are not restrained by the historical context of
the surrounding text. They are part of the eternal, unchanging word of Allah,
and just as relevant or subjective as anything else in the Quran.

Most of today's Muslims exercise a personal choice to interpret their holy
book's many calls to violence according to what their own moral preconceptions
find justificable. Apologists cater to their preferences with tenuous arguments
that gloss over historical fact and generally do not stand up to scrutiny.
Still, it is important to note that the problem is not bad people,
but bad ideology.

Unfortunately, there are very few verses of tolerance and peace to abrogate
or even balance out the many that call for nonbelievers to be fought and subdued
until they either accept humiliation, convert to Islam, or are killed.
Muhammad's own martial legacy - and that of his companions - along with the
remarkable stress on violence found in the Quran have produced a trail of blood
and tears across world history.

The Quran:

Quran
(2:191-193)
- "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of
the places whence they drove you out, for persecution
[of
Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]
... but if they
desist, then lo! Allah is forgiving and merciful. And fight them until
persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah."
The historical
context
of this passage is not defensive warfare, since Muhammad and
his Muslims had just relocated to Medina and were not under attack by
their Meccan adversaries. In fact, the verses urge offensive warfare, in
that Muslims are to drive Meccans out of their own city (which they later
did
). The use of the word "persecution" by some Muslim translators is thus disingenuous (the actual Muslim words for persecution - "idtihad" - and oppression - a variation of "z-l-m" - do not appear in the verse). The actual Arabic comes from "fitna" which can mean disbelief, or the disorder that results from unbelief or temptation. Taken as a whole, the context makes clear that violence is being authorized until "religion is for Allah" - ie.
unbelievers desist in their unbelief.

Quran
(2:244)
- "Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth
and knoweth all things."

Quran
(2:216)
- "Fighting is prescribed
for you
, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which
is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah
knoweth, and ye know not."
Not only does this verse establish that violence
can be virtuous, but it also contradicts the myth that fighting is intended only
in self-defense, since the audience was obviously not under attack at the time.
From the Hadith, we know that this verse was narrated at a time that Muhammad
was actually trying to motivate his people into raiding
merchant caravans
for loot.

Quran
(3:56)
- "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible
agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to
help."

Quran
(3:151)
- "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers,
for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no
authority".
This speaks directly of polytheists, yet it also includes
Christians, since they believe in the Trinity (ie. what Muhammad incorrectly
believed to be 'joining companions to Allah').

Quran
(4:74)
- "Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this
world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he
victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward."
The martyrs of Islam are
unlike the early Christians, led meekly to the slaughter. These Muslims are
killed in battle, as they attempt to inflict death and destruction for the cause
of Allah. Here is the theological basis for today's suicide bombers.

Quran
(4:76)
- "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…"

Quran
(4:89)
- "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus
be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until
they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn
renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case)
take no friends or helpers from their ranks."

Quran
(4:95)
- "Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no
hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and
their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight
with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in
Faith) Hath Allah promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He
distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward,-"
This
passage criticizes "peaceful" Muslims who do not join in the violence, letting
them know that they are less worthy in Allah's eyes. It also demolishes the
modern myth that "Jihad" doesn't mean holy war in the Quran, but rather a
spiritual struggle. Not only is the Arabic word used in this passage, but it is
clearly not referring to anything spiritual, since the physically
disabled are given exemption. (The Hadith reveals the context of the passage to
be in response to a blind man's protest that he is unable to engage in Jihad and
this is reflected in other translations of the verse).

Quran
(4:104)
- "And be not weak hearted in pursuit of the enemy; if you suffer
pain, then surely they (too) suffer pain as you suffer pain..."
Is pursuing
an injured and retreating enemy really an act of self-defense?

Quran
(5:33)
- "The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His
messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should
be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on
opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for
them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous
chastisement"

Quran
(8:12)
- "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve.
Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them"
No
reasonable person would interpret this to mean a spiritual struggle.

Quran
(8:15)
- "O ye who believe! When ye meet those who disbelieve in battle,
turn not your backs to them. (16)Whoso on that day turneth his back to them,
unless maneuvering for battle or intent to join a company, he truly hath
incurred wrath from Allah, and his habitation will be hell, a hapless journey's
end."

Quran
(8:39)
- "And fight with them until there is no more fitna (disorder,
unbelief) and religion should be only for Allah" Some translations
interpret "fitna" as "persecution", but the traditional understanding of this
word is not supported by the historical context (See notes for 2:293, also).
The Meccans were simply refusing Muhammad access to their city during Haj.
Other Muslims were allowed to travel there - just not as an armed group, since
Muhammad had declared war on Mecca prior to his eviction. The Meccans were also
acting in defense of their religion, since it was Muhammad's intention to
destroy their idols and establish Islam by force (which he later did). Hence
the critical part of this verse is to fight until "religion is only for
Allah"
, meaning that the true justification of violence was the unbelief of
the opposition. According to the Sira (Ibn Ishaq/Hisham 324) Muhammad further
explains that "Allah must have no rivals."

Quran
(8:57)
- "If thou comest on them in the war, deal with them so as to
strike fear in those who are behind them, that haply they may remember."

Quran
(8:59-60)
- "And let not those who disbelieve suppose that they can
outstrip (Allah's Purpose). Lo! they cannot escape. Make ready for them all
thou canst of (armed) force and of horses tethered, that thereby ye may dismay
the enemy of Allah and your enemy."

Quran
(8:65)
- "O Prophet, exhort the believers to fight..."

Quran
(9:5)
- "So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the
idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captive and besiege them and lie
in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay
the poor-rate, leave their way free to them."
According to this verse, the
best way of staying safe from Muslim violence is to convert to Islam (prayer
(salat) and the poor tax (zakat) are among the religion's Five
Pillars). This popular claim that the Quran only inspires violence within the
context of self-defense is seriously challenged by this passage as well, since
the Muslims to whom it was written were obviously not under attack. Had they
been, then there would have been no waiting period (earlier verses make it a
duty for Muslims to fight in self-defense, even during the sacred months).

Quran
(9:14)
- "Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them
to disgrace..."

Quran
(9:20)
- "Those who believe, and have left their homes and striven with
their wealth and their lives in Allah's way are of much greater worth in Allah's
sight. These are they who are triumphant."
The "striving" spoken of here is
Jihad (Arabic).

Quran
(9:29)
- "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold
that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor
acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book,
until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued."
"People of the Book" refers to Christians and Jews. This was one of the
final "revelations" from Allah and it set in motion the tenacious military
expansion, in which Muhammad's companions managed to conquer two-thirds of the
Christian world in the next 100 years. Islam is intended to dominate all other
people and faiths.

Quran
(9:30)
- "And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah; and the Christians
say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they
imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how
they are turned away!"

Quran
(9:38-39)
- "O ye who believe! what is the matter with you, that, when ye
are asked to go forth in the cause of Allah, ye cling heavily to the earth? Do
ye prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? But little is the comfort of
this life, as compared with the Hereafter. Unless ye go forth, He will punish
you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place."
This is a
warning to those who refuse to fight, that they will be punished with Hell.

Quran
(9:41)
- "Go forth, light-armed and heavy-armed, and strive with your
wealth and your lives in the way of Allah! That is best for you if ye but
knew."
See also the verse that follows (9:42)
- "If there had been immediate gain (in sight), and the journey easy, they would
(all) without doubt have followed thee, but the distance was long, (and weighed)
on them"
This contradicts the myth that Muslims are to fight only in
self-defense, since the wording implies that battle will be waged a long
distance from home (in another country and on Christian soil, in this case,
according to the historians).

Quran
(9:73)
- "O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the
hypocrites and be unyielding to them; and their abode is hell, and evil is the
destination."
Dehumanizing those who reject Islam, by reminding Muslims
that they are merely firewood for Hell, makes it easier to justify slaughter.
It also explains why today's devout Muslims have little regard for those outside
the faith.

Quran
(9:88)
- "But the Messenger, and those who believe with him, strive and
fight with their wealth and their persons: for them are (all) good things: and
it is they who will prosper."

Quran
(9:111)
- "Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their
goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His
cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the
Law, the Gospel, and the Quran: and who is more faithful to his covenant than
Allah? then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the
achievement supreme."

Quran
(9:123)
- "O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers who are near
to you and let them find in you hardness."

Quran
(17:16)
- "And when We wish to destroy a town, We send Our commandment to
the people of it who lead easy lives, but they transgress therein; thus the word
proves true against it, so We destroy it with utter destruction."
Note that
the crime is moral transgression, and the punishment is "utter destruction."
(Before ordering the 9/11 attacks, Osama bin Laden first issued Americans an
invitation to Islam).

Quran
(18:65-81)
- This parable lays the theological groundwork for honor
killings, in which a family member is murdered because they brought shame to the
family, either through apostasy or perceived moral indiscretion. The story
(which is not found in any Jewish or Christian source) tells of Moses
encountering a man with "special knowledge" who does things which don't seem to
make sense on the surface, but are then justified according to later
explanation. One such action is to murder a youth for no apparent reason (74).
However, the wise man later explains that it was feared that the boy would
"grieve" his parents by "disobedience and ingratitude." He was killed so that
Allah could provide them a 'better' son. (Note: This is one reason why honor
killing is sanctioned by Sharia. Reliance of the Traveler (Umdat al-Saliq) says
that punishment for murder is not applicable when a parent or grandparent kills
their offspring (o.1.1-2).)

Quran
(21:44)
- "We gave the good things of this life to these men and their
fathers until the period grew long for them; See they not that We gradually
reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they
who will win?"

Quran
(25:52)
- "Therefore listen not to the Unbelievers, but strive against
them with the utmost strenuousness..."
"Strive against" is Jihad -
obviously not in the personal context. It's also significant to point out that
this is a Meccan verse.

Quran
(33:60-62)
- "If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease,
and the alarmists in the city do not cease, We verily shall urge thee on against
them, then they will be your neighbors in it but a little while. Accursed, they
will be seized wherever found and slain with a (fierce) slaughter."
This
passage sanctions the slaughter (rendered "merciless" and "horrible murder" in
other translations) against three groups: Hypocrites (Muslims who refuse to
"fight in the way of Allah" (3:167)
and hence don't act as Muslims should), those with "diseased hearts" (which
include Jews and Christians 5:51-52),
and "alarmists" or "agitators who include those who merely speak out against
Islam, according to Muhammad's biographers. It is worth noting that the victims
are to be sought out by Muslims, which is what today's terrorists do. If this
passage is meant merely to apply to the city of Medina, then it is unclear why
it is included in Allah's eternal word to Muslim generations.

Quran
(47:3-4)
- "Those who reject Allah follow vanities, while those who
believe follow the truth from their lord. Thus does Allah set forth form men
their lessons by similitude. Therefore when you meet in battle those who
disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make
(them) prisoners,"
Those who reject Allah are to be subdued in battle. The
verse goes on to say the only reason Allah doesn't do the dirty work himself is
in order to to test the faithfulness of Muslims. Those who kill pass the test.
"But if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution
from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with
others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their
deeds be lost."

Quran
(47:35)
- "Be not weary and faint-hearted, crying for peace, when ye
should be uppermost
(Shakir: "have the upper hand") for Allah is with
you,"

Quran
(48:17)
- "There is no blame for the blind, nor is there blame for the
lame, nor is there blame for the sick (that they go not forth to war). And whoso
obeyeth Allah and His messenger, He will make him enter Gardens underneath which
rivers flow; and whoso turneth back, him will He punish with a painful doom."
Contemporary apologists sometimes claim that Jihad means 'spiritual
struggle.' Is so, then why are the blind, lame and sick exempted? This verse
also says that those who do not fight will suffer torment in hell.

Quran
(48:29)
- "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are
hard (ruthless) against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves"
Islam is not about treating everyone equally. There are two
very distinct standards that are applied based on religious status. Also the
word used for 'hard' or 'ruthless' in this verse shares the same root as the
word translated as 'painful' or severe' in verse 16.

Quran
(61:4)
- "Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way" Religion of
Peace, indeed! This is followed by (61:9):
"He it is who has sent His Messenger (Mohammed) with guidance and the
religion of truth (Islam) to make it victorious over all religions even
though the infidels may resist
."

Quran
(61:10-12)
- "O ye who believe! Shall I lead you to a bargain that will
save you from a grievous Penalty?- That ye believe in Allah and His Messenger,
and that ye strive (your utmost) in the Cause of Allah, with your property and
your persons: That will be best for you, if ye but knew! He will forgive you
your sins, and admit you to Gardens beneath which Rivers flow, and to beautiful
mansions in Gardens of Eternity."
This verse was given in battle. It uses
the Arabic word, Jihad.

Quran
(66:9)
- "O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites,
and be stern with them. Hell will be their home, a hapless journey's end."
The root word of "Jihad" is used again here. The context is clearly holy
war, and the scope of violence is broadened to include "hypocrites" - those who
call themselves Muslims but do not act as such.

From the Hadith:

Bukhari
(52:177)
- Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established until
you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will
say. "O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him."

Bukhari
(52:256)
- The Prophet... was asked whether it was permissible to attack
the pagan warriors at night with the probability of exposing their women and
children to danger. The Prophet replied, "They (i.e. women and children) are
from them (i.e. pagans)."
In this command, Muhammad establishes that it is
permissible to kill non-combatants in the process of killing a perceived enemy.
This provides justification for the many Islamic terror bombings.

Bukhari
(52:220)
- Allah's Apostle said... 'I have been made victorious with
terror'

Abu
Dawud (14:2526)
- The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: Three things are
the roots of faith: to refrain from (killing) a person who utters, "There is no
god but Allah" and not to declare him unbeliever whatever sin he commits, and
not to excommunicate him from Islam for his any action; and jihad will be
performed continuously since the day Allah sent me as a prophet until the day
the last member of my community will fight with the Dajjal (Antichrist)

Abu
Dawud (14:2527)
- The Prophet said: Striving in the path of Allah (jihad)
is incumbent on you along with every ruler, whether
he is pious or impious

Muslim
(1:33)
- the Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight
against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah, that Muhammad
is the messenger of Allah

Bukhari
(8:387)
- Allah's Apostle said, "I have been ordered to fight the people
till they say: 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah'. And if they say
so, pray like our prayers, face our Qibla and slaughter as we slaughter, then
their blood and property will be sacred to us and we will not interfere with
them except legally."

Muslim
(1:30)
- "The Messenger of Allah said: I have been commanded to fight
against people so long as they do not declare that there is no god but
Allah."

Bukhari
(11:626)
- [Muhammad said:] "I decided to order a man to lead the
prayer and then take a flame to burn all those, who had not left their houses
for the prayer, burning them alive inside their homes."

Muslim
(1:149)
- "Abu Dharr reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, which of the
deeds is the best? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Belief in Allah and Jihad in
His cause..."

Muslim
(20:4645)
- "...He (the Messenger of Allah) did that and said: There is
another act which elevates the position of a man in Paradise to a grade one
hundred (higher), and the elevation between one grade and the other is equal to
the height of the heaven from the earth. He (Abu Sa'id) said: What is that act?
He replied: Jihad in the way of Allah! Jihad in the way of Allah!"

Muslim
(20:4696)
- "the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: 'One
who died but did not fight in the way of Allah nor did he express any desire (or
determination) for Jihid died the death of a hypocrite.'"

Muslim
(19:4321-4323)
- Three separate hadith in which Muhammad shrugs over the
news that innocent children were killed in a raid by his men against
unbelievers. His response: "They are of them (meaning the enemy)."

Muslim
(19:4294)
- "When the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) appointed
anyone as leader of an army or detachment he would especially exhort him... He
would say: Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight against
those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war... When you meet your enemies
who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to
any one of these, you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any
harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them
and desist from fighting against them... If they refuse to accept Islam, demand
from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your
hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah's help and fight them.

Tabari 7:97 The morning after the murder of Ashraf, the Prophet
declared, "Kill any Jew who falls under your power."
Ashraf was a poet,
killed by Muhammad's men because he insulted Islam. Here, Muhammad widens the
scope of his orders to kill. An innocent Jewish businessman was then slain by
his Muslim partner, merely for being non-Muslim.

Tabari 9:69 "Killing Unbelievers is a small matter to us" The
words of Muhammad, prophet of Islam.

Tabari 17:187 "'By God, our religion (din) from which we have
departed is better and more correct than that which these people follow. Their
religion does not stop them from shedding blood, terrifying the roads, and
seizing properties.' And they returned to their former religion."
The words
of a group of Christians who had converted to Islam, but realized their error
after being shocked by the violence and looting committed in the name of Allah.
The price of their decision to return to a religion of peace was that the men
were beheaded and the woman and children enslaved by the caliph Ali.

Ibn Ishaq/Hisham
327: - “Allah said, ‘A
prophet must slaughter before collecting captives. A slaughtered enemy is driven
from the land. Muhammad, you craved the desires of this world, its goods and the
ransom captives would bring. But Allah desires killing them to manifest the
religion.’”

Ibn Ishaq/Hisham
990: - Lest anyone think that
cutting off someone's head while screaming 'Allah Akbar!' is a modern creation,
here is an account of that very practice under Muhammad, who seems to
approve.

Ibn Ishaq/Hisham 992:
- "Fight everyone in the way
of Allah and kill those who disbelieve in Allah."
Muhammad's instructions
to his men prior to a military raid.

Additional Notes:

Other than the fact that Muslims haven't killed every
non-Muslim under their domain, there is very little else that they can point to
as proof that theirs is a peaceful, tolerant religion. Where Islam is dominant
(as in the Middle East and Pakistan) religious minorities suffer brutal
persecution with little resistance. Where Islam is in the minority (as in
Thailand, the Philippines and Europe) there is the threat of violence if Muslim
demands are not met. Either situation seems to provide a justification for
religious terrorism, which is persistent and endemic to Islamic
fundamentalism.

The reasons are obvious and begin with the Quran. Few verses
of Islam's most sacred text can be construed to fit the contemporary virtues of
religious tolerance and universal brotherhood. Those that do are earlier
"Meccan" verses which are obviously abrogated by later ones. This is why Muslim
apologists speak of the "risks" of trying to interpret the Quran without their
"assistance" - even while claiming that it is a perfect book.

Far from being mere history or theological construct, the
violent verses of the Quran have played a key role in very real massacre and
genocide. This includes the brutal slaughter of tens of millions of Hindus for
five centuries beginning around 1000 AD with Mahmud of Ghazni's bloody
conquest. Both he and the later Tamerlane (Islam's Genghis Khan) slaughtered an
untold number merely for defending their temples from destruction. Buddhism was
very nearly wiped off the Indian subcontinent. Judaism and Christianity met the
same fate (albeit more slowly) in areas conquered by Muslim armies, including
the Middle East, North Africa and parts of Europe, including today's Turkey.
Zoroastrianism, the ancient religion of a proud Persian people is despised by
Muslims and barely survives in modern Iran.

So ingrained is violence in the religion that Islam has never
really stopped being at war, either with other religions or with itself.

Muhammad was a military leader, laying siege to towns, massacring
the men, raping
their women, enslaving their children, and taking the property of others as his
own. On several occasions he rejected offers of surrender from the besieged
inhabitants and even butchered captives.
He actually inspired his followers to battle when they did not feel it was right
to fight, promising them slaves and booty if they did and threatening them with
Hell if they did not. Muhammad allowed his men to rape traumatized women
captured in battle, usually on the very day their husbands and family members
were slaughtered.

It is important to emphasize that, for the most part, Muslim
armies waged aggressive campaigns, and the religion's most dramatic
military conquests were made by the actual companions of Muhammad in the decades
following his death. The early Islamic principle of warfare was that the
civilian population of a town was to be destroyed (ie. men executed, women and
children taken as slaves) if they defended themselves. Although modern
apologists often claim that Muslims are only supposed to attack in self-defense,
this is an oxymoron that is flatly
contradicted
by the accounts of Islamic historians and others that go back
to the time of Muhammad.

Consider the example of the Qurayza Jews, who were completely
obliterated only five years after Muhammad arrived in Medina. Their leader
opted to stay neutral when their town was besieged by a Meccan army that was
sent to take revenge for Muhammad's deadly caravan raids. The tribe killed no
one from either side and even surrendered peacefully to Muhammad after the
Meccans had been turned back. Yet the prophet of Islam had every male member of
the Qurayza beheaded, and every woman and child enslaved, even raping one of the
captives himself (what Muslim apologists might refer to as "same day
marriage").

One of Islam's most revered modern scholars, Sheikh Yusuf
al-Qaradawi, openly sanctions offensive Jihad: "In the Jihad which you are
seeking, you look for the enemy and invade him. This type of Jihad takes place only when the Islamic state is invading other
[countries] in order to spread the word of
Islam
and to remove obstacles standing in its way."
Elsewhere, he
notes: "Islam has the right to take the initiative…this is God’s religion and
it is for the whole world. It has the right to destroy all obstacles in the form
of institutions and traditions … it attacks institutions and traditions to
release human beings from their poisonous influences, which distort human nature
and curtail human freedom. Those who say that Islamic Jihad was merely for the
defense of the 'homeland of Islam' diminish the greatness of the Islamic way of
life."

The widely respected Dictionary of Islam
defines Jihad as "A religious war with those who are unbelievers in the
mission of Muhammad. It is an incumbent religious duty, established in the
Qur'an and in the Traditions as a divine institution, and enjoined specially for
the purpose of advancing Islam and of repelling evil from Muslims…[Quoting from
the Hanafi school, Hedaya, 2:140, 141.], "The destruction of the sword is
incurred by infidels, although they be not the first aggressors
, as appears
from various passages in the traditions which are generally received to this
effect."

Muhammad's failure to leave a clear line of succession
resulted in perpetual internal war following his death. Those who knew him best
first fought to keep remote tribes from leaving Islam and reverting to their
preferred religion (the Ridda or 'Apostasy wars'). Then, within the closer
community, early Meccan converts battled later ones. Hostility developed
between those immigrants who had traveled with Muhammad to Mecca and the Ansar
at Medina who had helped them settle in. Finally there was a violent struggle
within Muhammad's own family between his favorite wife and favorite daughter - a
jagged schism that has left Shias and Sunnis at each others' throats to this
day.

The strangest and most untrue thing that can be said about
Islam is that it is a Religion of Peace. If every standard by which the West is
judged and condemned (slavery, imperialism, intolerance, misogyny, sexual
repression, warfare...) were applied equally to Islam, the verdict would be
devastating. Islam never gives up what it conquers, be it religion, culture,
language or life. Neither does it make apologies or any real effort at moral
progress. It is the least open to dialogue and the most self-absorbed. It is
convinced of its own perfection, yet brutally shuns self-examination and
represses criticism.

This is what makes the Quran's verses of violence so
dangerous. They are given the weight of divine command. While Muslim
terrorists take them as literally as anything else in their holy book, and
understand that Islam is incomplete without Jihad, moderates offer little to
contradict them - outside of opinion. Indeed, what do they have? Speaking of
peace and love may win over the ignorant, but when every twelfth verse of
Islam's holiest book either speaks to Allah's hatred for non-Muslims or calls
for their death, forced conversion, or subjugation, it's little wonder that
sympathy for terrorism runs as deeply as it does in the
broader community - even if most Muslims personally prefer not to interpret
their religion in this way.

Although scholars like Ibn Khaldun, one of Islam's most
respected philosophers, understood that "the holy war is a religious duty,
because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and (the obligation to)
convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force",
many other
Muslims are either unaware or willfully ignorant of the Quran's near absence of
verses that preach universal non-violence. Their understanding of Islam comes
from what they are taught by others. In the West, it is typical for believers
to think that their religion must be like Christianity - preaching the New
Testament virtues of peace, love, and tolerance - because Muslims are taught
that Islam is supposed to be superior in
every way. They are somewhat surprised and embarrassed to learn that the
evidence of the Quran and the bloody history of Islam are very much in
contradiction to this.

Others simply accept the violence. In 1991, a Palestinian
couple in America was convicted of stabbing their daughter to death for being
too Westernized. A family friend came to their defense, excoriating the jury
for not understanding the "culture", claiming that the father was merely
following "the religion" and saying that the couple had to "discipline their
daughter or lose respect." (source).
In 2011, unrepentant Palestinian terrorists, responsible for the brutal murders
of civilians, women and children explicitly in
the name of Allah were treated to a luxurious "holy pilgrimage" to Mecca by the
Saudi king - without a single Muslim voice raised in protest.

For their part, Western liberals would do well not to
sacrifice critical thinking to the god of political correctness, or look for
reasons to bring other religion down to the level of Islam merely to avoid the
existential truth that this it is both different and dangerous.

There are just too many Muslims who take the Quran
literally... and too many others who couldn't care less about the violence done
in the name of Islam.

@ astounding;

Sir, with that mentality, if anyone were invaded, your suggestion would be to give up and give in, not to put up a fight at all, because of war.

How do you get this from my post? your post is obnoxiously long. There is a difference in a cane and able, and defending your religion or country. The phrase onward Christian soldiers did not just materialize for no good reason.

@fedup,chuckinloathe;

Obama is the one that secretly sold the bunker busters to Israel. Obama is the one responsible for thousands of troops massing off AQAP, in case Iran attacks Israel or hits us back as hard as they say they will. Obama is the one that has told them they have months if not weeks, and not years to come clean. Obama is the one working with Israel as we speak in case Iran attacks.

To say Obama has left Israel twistin in the wind is truly Ignorant.

PJ - You're blind. Isreal has been quite nice about all this. If any part of the U.S. started firing missiles into a city, say a small county named Gaza County, a place supplied with missles from Iran with people willing to use them, then what would you think the U.S. would do? What would you advocate? If the U.S went into Gaza County USA, with a few thousand troops, leveled everything, and built up new houses for their citizizens would you say the same thing you are saying now?

@Coral Taxi, First it's obnoxiously long to prove to you how many times the same book Islamic worshipers everywhere preach violence against non-muslim. Are you muslim? (If not, those verses apply to you and every muslim believes it.) And by the way, the same Quran over there is the same one read everywhere by muslims.

Secondly, I get that from your post because you said the OT was a different time and God is against murder. It's not murder if you're defending yourself according to the U.S. Federal Attorney General.

@Coral Taxi,

Your solution to this whole Gaza problem would be? What more peace talks with nations who claim Israel doesn't exist, or has threatened to wipe them off the face of the map? Egypt has a long and bitter hatred towards Israel. They are a key player in this. Iran doesn't even believe Israel should exist and denies the holocaust doesn't even exist, also key players. The difference is supporting a faction that allows freedom of will, the right pray OR NOT if that is your desire. In Saudi Arabia it is illegal for a Christian to pray. A non muslim cannot even FLY IN AN AIRPLANE for something like twenty miles over Mecca.

My point is, the entire region is Islam, why can't the muslims in Gaza go migrate to another Islamic country if they are so peaceful? Why can't Israel have one little strip of land, which, as documented by western records, Israeli borders predates Christianity itself! Give the Jewish people their little bit of land and support them as we have done.

Sure friend, whatever you wish to believe. No doubt the refusal to meet with Netanyaho and the comments by Barry saying Israel is on their own in a response/attck on Iran - these things were just to throw everybody off track.

You act as though your buddy Barry is the first to send weapons to Israel, or that troops in the area are there for support of Israel. What sort of ground war do you think the US would commit to? Do you really believe what you're saying?

If Israel turned off the electricity that it provides to Gaza, it would be no worse than what happened to New York and New Jersey. The people of Gaza would still have their homes with an minor inconvenience. It would get their attention.

Bombing them is the other alternative which will also get their attention.

    Hello folks,

Israeli aggression is possible only because of direct, affirmative, unstinting US diplomatic, financial and military support for Israel and everything it does. This ruse and self-flattering depiction of the US as uninvolved, neutral party is the worst media fiction since TV news personalities covered the Arab Spring by pretending that the US is and long has been on the side of the heroic democratic protesters, rather than the key force that spent decades propping up the tyrannies they were fighting (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Syria, etc).

Israel has been carrying out deadly airstrikes on Gaza since November 14 and if left to their own devices would be bombing Syria, Turkey and Iran. At least 96 Palestinians, including many women and children have been killed in the Israeli airstrikes. More than 700 people have also been injured, with some of the wounded being in critical condition.

But pretending that the US supporters and the Obama administration bear no responsibility for what is taking place is sheer self-delusion, total fiction. It has long been the case that the central enabling fact in Israeli lawlessness and aggression is blind US support, and that continues more than ever to be the case under the presidency of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Who are we defending? Remember the USS Liberty?

USS Liberty was attacked in international waters by Israeli forces on June 8, 1967, killing 34 Americans and wounding another 174. When Israel can't get the U.S. to do its bidding in attacking the countries they want attacked they perpetrate covert military attacks against the U.S.

General Dempsey, Chairman of America’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the man who flew to Tel Aviv and informed Netanyahu that America wanted no part of his scheming against Iran was the subject of an assassination attempt in Afghanistan. This wasn’t an act of terrorism or Taliban militants. It was a mob hit by Israel’s Mossad against someone who failed to kiss the feet of Netanyahu. His response was to unleash killers, not a fact for the public but a fact just the same, one the American military knows very well. Netsayahoo is pathologically insane.

What about the land Israel has stolen from the Palestinians much less the thousands murdered and millions displaced. Remember the 1947 UN Partition accord and the land ceded to Israel. That wasn’t enough so Israel encroached on more Palestinian land. The land lines were redrawn in 1967 and Israel keeps redrawing them to this day. Recently, before the all out attack, Israel’s Defense Ministry ordered eight Palestinian villages in the West Bank to be razed, claiming the land is needed for military training.. Hundreds of Palestinians were displaced despite evidence that the villages have existed since 1830. In their magnanimity they let the farmers have back their own land on the weekends to eke out a living, it looks like they will just “annex” it as well. Israel continues to displace innocent men, women and children and wonders why they are targets of terrorism. What would you do if someone took over your home?

Netsayahoo is pissed off that the American elections didn’t go his way so that he would have a more pliable puppet to attack Iran. Now his elections are coming up and he is worried that if he doesn’t mire his country and use fear in an all out war he won’t be re-elected.

The corporate owned US media has depicted Washington as pro-democracy and justifying the Israeli strikes on Gaza as self-defense. The Netanyahu government knows that any attempt to condemn Israel at the UN would be instantly blocked by the US is a major factor enabling them to continue however they wish. And, of course, the bombs, planes and tanks they are using are subsidized by the US taxpayer.

So it is not so surprising to see the American Jewish community and leadership with very very minor exception line up behind Israel, right or wrong as it wages its relentless attack on the men, women and children of Gaza. To this leadership and community, all Israelis are victims and innocent and all Palestinians are guilty and deserve to die. Simply there are no civilians in Gaza, only an enclave of some 1.5 million terrorists who deserve to get killed, murdered in retail or wholesale.

The US is not some neutral, uninvolved party. Whatever side of this conflict you want to defend or if you’re one of those people who love to announce that you just wish the whole thing would go away, it’s still necessary to take responsibility for the key role played by the American government and this administration in enabling everything that is taking place. You are being provided the facts and if you choose to support this aggression you too are complicit in the deaths of men, women and children and will have to own up to the Karma that is associated with these atrocities.

Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Netanyahu and Obama.

Once upon a time it was the objective of the military to win wars. Now the objective of the military is to avoid incidents.

An incident happens when civilians are killed, prisoners mistreated or some other event that is photographed, videotaped and then flashed around the world. This results in an Incident, capital I, that triggers much artificial soul-searching by the media which spends the next two years beating the incident to death and flogging its corpse across television programs, newspaper articles, books, documentaries and finally, if it's a big enough incident, a real life movie version that is based on the book, which was based on the article, where the idealistic reporter/lawyer/activist who uncovered the truth about the incident will be played by Matt Damon or George Clooney.

The main objective of the military in most civilized countries is to prevent this chain of articles, programs, books, documentaries, dramatized plays and Matt Damon movies from coming about by making sure that no Incident can ever happen. And the best way to do that is by not fighting. And if the enemy insists on fighting, then he must be fought with razor sharp precision so that no collateral damage takes place. And if someone must die, it had better be our own soldiers, rather than anyone on the other side whose death might be used as an Incident.

Incidentism isn't derived from a fear of Matt Damon movies, but from the perception that wars are not won on the battlefield, but in the minds of men. And that perception has a good deal to do with the kind of wars we choose to fight.

The military, whether in the United States or Israel, does not exist to win wars. It exists to win over the people who don't want it to win a war.

The guiding principle in such conflicts is to use the military to push back the insurgency long enough to win over the local population with a nation building exercise. This program has never worked out for the United States, but that doesn't mean that generations of military leaders don't insist on going through the motions of applying it anyway.

In Israel, the last time the military was sent to win a war, was 1973. Since then the military has been used as a police force and to battle militias in Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank. In the Territories, the ideal Israeli soldier was supposed to be able to dodge rocks thrown by teenagers hired by Time correspondents looking to score a great photo. Today the ideal Israeli soldier is capable of visiting an American college campus to dodge the overpriced textbooks hurled at him by the local branch of Students for Justice in Palestine or the International Socialist Organization, while explaining why the IDF is the most moral army in the world except for the Salvation Army.

The ideal Israeli soldier, like his American, British and Canadian, but not Russian or Chinese, counterparts, is supposed to avoid Incidents. That means operating under Rules of Engagement which make firing at an assailant almost as dangerous as not firing at an assailant.

The ideal American soldier is supposed to avoid the Taliban, or as one set of orders urged, patrol in places where the Taliban won't be found. And that's sensible advice, because if the goal is to avoid creating an Incident, then avoiding the enemy is the best way to avoid an Incident. Unfortunately the enemy has a bad habit of appearing where he isn't supposed to be and creating his own Incidents, because Taliban and Hamas commanders are not concerned about being yelled at in a fictional courtroom by Matt Damon. They actually welcome Incidents. The bigger and bloodier the Incident, the more hashish and young boys get passed around the campfire that night.

American soldiers operate under the burden of winning over the hearts and minds of Afghans and New York Times readers. Israeli soldiers are tasked with winning over New York Times readers and European politicians. But some hearts and minds are just unwinnable. And most wars become unwinnable when the goal is to fight an insurgency that has no fear of the dreaded Incident, while your soldiers are taught to be more afraid of an Incident than of an enemy bullet.

Israeli leaders live in perpetual fear of "losing the sympathy of the world", little aware that they never really had it. The "Sympathy of the World" is the strategic metric for conflicts. And so Israel does its best to minimize any collateral damage by using pinpoint strikes and developing technologies that can pluck a bee off a flower without harming a single petal. But invariably the technocratic genius of such schemes has its limits, an Incident happens, the Israeli leftist press denounces the Prime Minister for clumsily losing the sympathy of the world, and international politicians order Israel to retreat back behind whatever line it retreated to during the last appeasement gesture before the last peace negotiations. And its experts ponder how to fight the next one without losing the sympathy of the world.

American and Israeli generals live in fear of losing political support and so they never put any plans on the table that would finish a conflict. Instead they choose low intensity warfare with prolonged bleeding instead of short and brutal engagements that would finish the job. They talk tough, but their enemies know that they don't mean it. Worse still, that they aren't allowed to mean it because meaning it would be too mean.

Incidentism leads to armies tiptoeing around conflicts and losing them by default. Avoiding them becomes the objective and that also makes Incidents inevitable because the enemy understands that all it will take to win is a few dead children planted in the ruins of a building; in a region where parents kill their own children for petty infractions and frequently go unpunished for it. The more an army commits to Incidentism, the sooner its war is lost. Prolonged low intensity conflicts are ripe with opportunities for Incidents, far more so that hot and rapid wars. And so the hearts and minds, those of the locals and those of New York Times readers, always end up being lost anyway.

War is no longer just politics by other means, it actually is politics with the goal of winning over hearts and minds, rather than achieving objectives. The objectives of a war, before, during and after, have become those of convincing your friends and your enemies, and various neutral parties, of your innate goodness and the justice of your cause. Propaganda then has become the whole of war and those who excel at propaganda, but aren't any good at war, now win the wars. The actual fighting is just the awkward part that the people who make the propaganda wish we could dispense with so they can focus on what's really important; distributing photos of our soldiers protecting the local children and playing with their puppies.

Take all that into account and the miserable track records of great armies are no longer surprising. Armies need to prove their morality to win a war, but are never allowed to win a war because it would interfere with proving their morality. Conflicts begin on the triumphant moral high ground and end with the victors slinking back defeated after an Incident or two has been splashed all over the evening news and the book based on the article on it has already been optioned by Matt Damon's production company for a movie to be funded by the same people who fund the terrorists.

The war of words, the conflict of images and videos, the clash of arguments, has become the sum of war. And that war is unwinnable because it must be fought on two fronts, against the cultural enemies within and the insurgents outside.

An army cannot win a war and win over the New York Times at the same time. And so long as it fears Incidents more than operating in an aimless counterinsurgency twilight that eventually shades into defeat, then it is bound to lose both to both the terrorists and the New York Times.

The only option is for Israel to go in carpet bombing everything insite until the rockets stop and the civilian population is ready to stand up to the Hamas and kick them out. I'm sorry, but if Canada had a militant group inside its boarders that kept firing rockets at the USA and the Government there was doing nothing serious about it, I would back all military action until not one US citizen in the US had to worry in the least about rockets from Canada. Foreign civilian body count would not matter.

The Jews bought the land from the Palestinians at well above fair market prices starting in 1840. The return of the Jews accelerated in the 1930's as Hitler took over Germany. Palestinians who do not sell their land to the Jews, still maintain full property ownership, vote in the Israeli government, have there own elected representative and serve in the Israeli police forces and military.

@ expat7 There is no such thing as a Palestenian State, so no, the "Gazan's" don't have that same right,

@ astounding, (!), we're talking about the right to *EXIST*, so thanks for going on record and affirming that you and the rest of Israel don't believe Gazans have any right to exist. Thanks for affirming that genocide is okay with you. Thanks for showing the world that diplomacy is not a word that exists in the Jewish vocabulary, that the closest match for it is "war". Jews complain about how they've been shunned though history, and yet when you get your own country, we see this as an example of how you have a double standard about fellow human beings?

What's the lesson here? That Hitler, for all his evils may have actually had a valid point????? You need to step back and take a look at what tremendous disservice people like you are doing not just humanity but yourselves. If you sow war you will reap war.

You can take your history and put it where the sun doesn't shine. Or maybe take a different lesson from it: Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it, and that's not something Jews would want. I certainly don't. While your faith may teach you that Israel lands belong to Jews, I don't believe it for an instant, any more than Jews are somehow a more special people in the eyes of God than any other people, like me. Newsflash: You are NOT more special. You are ordinary. And the sooner you learn that the better off you are going to be. Get off your high horse, and recognize that people are not going to pay any attention to history. Borders have always changed with changing times. It's happened here in the USA, Europe, south America, you name it.

Give muslims in Gaza and the rest of Israel an ultimatum to evacuate or be destroyed.

Ethnic cleansing and advocacy for genocide. It's the New Jewish Way!!!!! And you got 7 other maniacs to agree with this crap?????

Say that again and prove Hitler actually right!!

I don't believe it though. I know there are many Israelis/Jews who disagree with you and the damage you do with this kind of genocidal advocacy.

Cuba has been under an embargo also termedblockade by the US since 1960. I see no problems with ensuring that your enemies get no outside "assistance" using this method. The world has a financial blockade that is only tightening against Iran.

Tyler, there's a massive difference between an embargo and a blockade. Cuba is only embargoed from the USA, and unlike Gaza, if any other country wants to ship concrete to Cuba, I'm pretty sure that it'll get there. Israel, however, decided that because concrete could be used not as an offensive weapon but potentially a defensive bunker, it's not allowed into Gaza. That people use it to make homes is of course not important to those who feel all people in Gaza should be exterminated.

@Expat - What you fail to understand is the gravity of the situation. Have you seen a map lately? Have you looked at the middle east? Do you know the enemies the tiny nation of Israel is surrounded by? By saying that evacuation orders should be given to gazan's, that's so they can get out, the ones that want to stay and fight let them, that is not advocating genocide. That's telling those Islamic fanatics to get the f out because we're sick of missiles raining down on our cities.

This is a do or die situation, or could be for Israel. They have to fight, they can't sit back here and say this or that, every one of their cities is under threat from a neighbor.

And you're right, we are talking about the right to EXIST! Remember what happened the last time the Jewish people didn't have a home? Have do you recall videos of the holocaust or are you an Iranian who believes it didn't even exist and the Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth, and who IS actually on record as endorsing the extermination of Jews.

Get your facts straight and stop twisting my words. Speaking of proving Hitler right, you'd be aligned nicely with him for advocating the splitting of Jerusalem, the continued rocket fire from Gaza (an Israeli territory).

Give the muslims the right to get out! How's that. If they want to stay and fight, let them, then level the place and build houses for more Jewish Immigrants. There are nothing but Muslim countries surrounding Israel, and you're telling me these "gazan's" can't go find a new home in one of them?

Why don't you watch what the co-founder of Hezbollah tells you what Islam is like instead of me?

    http://www.answersingenesis.org/media/video/ondemand/escape-from-darkness

Now if you actually watch it, even if you don't agree with the Christianity stuff, you're telling me you support an Islamic state within Israel? By the way, siding with Islam or the "gazan's" in this also shows you to support their beliefs, marriage at age 7, dictated by the Quran and written in it proof that Muhammed consumated his wife at age 8, you also advocate beheadings....just watch the video, for your own sake.

7 people agreed with me? OH NO! *sarcasm there* Imagine, a county in the U.S. firing missiles into other parts of the u.s. Lets call this county Gaza County USA. Now what do you think the U.S. military would do to Gaza County USA if this started happening, that is Iranian made missiles being fired into neighboring cities and counties? What would your reaction be? Would you be saying what you are now, essentially "No, don't go in there with guns and tanks." Screw that, it's the only way.

Since love and fear can hardly coexist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved.

    - Niccolò Machiavelli

Learn from history. What do you think will happen if a ceasefire is called. You think everyone in Iran, Egypt and Gaza is just gonna calm down? No, the only reason they haven't attacked in full force yet is because of all the turmuil their own Islamic governments are in around the area.

@expat - one interesting note from your diatribe, is that you said "If you sow war you will reap war." Apparently it has escaped you that missiles were fired first from the muslims in Gaza.

Go back to school and learn history. Islam always has been and always will be at war with anyone NON MUSLIM! Stop believing your liberal media, they are not the religion of Peace! Muhammed captured his first city and anyone who didn't convert was beheaded.... Christ never did this.

Islamic countries have an active religion population bordering on 95%
Christian countries have an active religion population bordering on 25%

WHY? BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE A CHOICE! Stop sticking up for them.

Your solution to this whole Gaza problem would be? What more peace talks with nations who claim Israel doesn't exist, or has threatened to wipe them off the face of the map?

    @Coral Taxi -

Come on man, what the heck. First of all the long post, again, was meant to serve that exact purpose, to show the extent which Islam tells Muslims to hate NON MUSLIM! Gee, I wonder why all my posts have more votes than yours if you're so right and I'm so wrong here.

I didn't put words in your mouth, I asked a question. Two actually. Which is the first thing you so kindly quoted, which by the way you have still not given an answer for, what is the best resolution to this, in your words, go head, put them down so everyone can see you make the words come out of your mouth and I'm not putting anything in. It was a question, or did you not take grammar in school? (huh oh, I may have you stumped, there's another of those squiggley lines again with a dot at the bottom.)

You showed how you've been fooling yourself into believing Islam is a religion of peace, or whatever it is here you're trying to say, I mean, I don't want to put words in your mouth.

No nerves hit, I just hate when people stick up for Islam and Muslims when their Quran says legal age of marriage is 7 (muhammed himself it says married a girl of that age and consumated the marriage by 8 or 9), forced religion, Israel being shelled...yeah, those strikes nerves. You..., well by advocating for muslims you advocate for the aforementioned and I don't like pedophiles much. pffft, you're just another joke who doesn't know history to well obviously, and furthermore hasn't researched the Middle East, Abrahamic Religions, the link between Christianity and Judaism or anything in between.

Am I putting words in your mouth? I dunno, because all you do is say "are you reading my posts right?" and attempting to hurl insults which is really lame, so just say what you're trying to say instead of just randomly sputtering off nonsense. I gave you alot of info to digest. If you haven't watched the video I posted or bothered to read the last bit of the "obnoxiously long post" ...or at least understood any of it... maybe, just maybe you could speak for yourself? Form your own opinion? You know these are the things we value here in a NON ISLAMIC state. Freedom of thought and speech, go head, spill a few words.

(By the way, pointing out something that says you "proved me wrong" does little for your case when haven't proven anything other than your lack of knowledge.)

And I have become as bad as those I rail against? I don't go out practicing any of those 109 verses of violence, nor do I practice anything endorsed by the Quran which I have mentioned. Thanks for trying to be clever though with the word play on astound. *sarcasm sign*

@astounding - violence is wrong on both ends. I am not knowledgeable enough to say who is at fault. But I am not naive enough to believe Israelis are victims anymore. Palestinians clearly are very poor, they have no real economic strength to fund any major war. So they are pretty much fighting with sticks and stones. These so called rockets are mostly home made. If Iran were to really supply its missiles to palestinians - the Israeli casualties would be 1000 times more.

So cut your bias and think humanely.

      #1.89 - Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:25 PM EST

In the last 3 years Hamas has fired over 8,000 rockets into Israel. EIGHT THOUSAND ROCKETS!! That is more rockets than Nazi Germany fired into London over the entire WWII. That is an average of over 7 rockets a day fired by Hamas into Israel over the last 3 years. So tell me again who the aggressor is?

Do you think for a moment the United States would allow 7 rockets a day into Florida from Cuba over 3 years BEFORE we reacted? Do you think the United States would allow 7 rockets a day into Texas from Mexico over 3 years BEFORE we reacted?

Understand that Israel and the Jews remember all too vividly what happens when they become defenseless. They remember all too well the MILLIONS of Jews killed by Nazi Germany. They can't afford to be "wrong" again. Israel fights for one reason - survival.

Many in these threads think war is an option. We can debate Iraq and Afghanistan all day. We can argue Korea or Vietnam all day. But whether we went to war in any of those cases or not our immediate survival at that time was not in question. Maybe an argument as to "will be more difficult down the road" is valid but our survival was not at risk. ANY time Israel is attacked their survival is at risk. I think they have been more than patient (much more patient than the U.S. would be if rockets sent into the U.S. on a daily basis) but the time has come to either continue taking rockets sent to kill innocent Israelis or resolve the problem. Israeli is now resolving the problem.

"So they are pretty much firing with sticks and stones."

Yeah, that's what those explosions were. Violence is wrong on both ends? Show me a country that has not been founded by war sir. Did we not give Israel to the Jews? Why are Muslims still in Gaza then, wanting eastern Jerusalem as their capital? Attempting to try and split Israel? These are not biased opinions, they are facts, learn them, some of them are even Biblical prophecy.

So basically what I got from your post was that Palestinians are poor (which if you do the research, there is no palestine, shows ya how long these people have been forceable, with weapons other than sticks and stones, trying to split up Israel) yet they have been given the oppurtunity for citizenship and denied it because the reject Israel being a nation. Sometimes violence is necessary. If you cannot see that, you do not understand history.

If you do not understand history, then discussing this issue with you is useless. If they don't have all this funding, if they are so poor, answer me this...why don't they move out to another Islamic countries, one that surrounds them. Why did they refuse citizenship if they are so poor and destitute. It seems the biased opinion is on your side, you seem to slightly indicate Israel in all of this by saying they are not victims anymore.

Those are subtle words, and I am thinking humanely. Do you think any country would tolerate rockets, mortors or any group of anti-government party (to the point of denying the countries existince) living like this in their country?

The UN stuck its nose into the mid east and made Israel a nation. When are they going to stick their nose in again and declare a Palestinian state?

Jerusalem should be made into a free zone with people in there to assure all sides can use it as their holy city. As it is, all I see that will likely never change is the nasty influence of every religion in the world telling people how much better they are than everyone else. They are the cause of most of the trouble in the world.

        Joseph,

You seem to be infatuated with "innocent people" killed. I agree injury to innocent people should be limited but are you aware that Hamas is shooting rockets FROM schools and hospitals SOLELY for the purpose of using innocent people as human shields? If Hamas was so "caring" then fight like a man and quit hiding behind a woman and a child to protect you.

Israel is doing the best it can to limit innocent injury but when you shoot a rocket from a school the school is no longer a private location it is a military building. During the Iraq war there were a bunch of scum in an old mosque and our military said we cannot bomb the mosque due to its historical value. I have one word - Bull#$@%!! If you are shooting rockets from a building or firing weapons from a building it is a military building. And if you don't want your innocent women and children hurt then don't shoot rockets from schools and hospitals.

Hamas likes to speak of themselves and "fighters" for their cause. If that is the case then fight - but don't be a wimp and a useless piece of sewage scum. Fight like a man or don't fight. To use women and children as shields is about as low as you can go.

I tell you that Hamas has fired 8000 rockets in Israel over the last 3 years and your comment is "it does not account for the Palestinian point of view". How does a rational person respond to such a strange and irresponsible comment? I guess the answer is "I don't". Because to try and have a mature and rational discussion with someone who says firing 8000 rockets over 3 years is justified do to their "point of view" is just not possible.

Also, being 1/8 does not even entitle you to claim tribal membership with any tribe in the U.S., so that argument is out the window, also. It amazes me how people can spout off any claim that they feel is right, the truth, whatever, and use no backing to their claims. You know so much about Israel and Palestine, show me.             @azd;

It amazes me how people can spout off any claim that they feel is right, the truth, whatever, and use no backing to their claims.

You can say that again brother. Astounding has read my post by now. They cut and run or digress without backing themselves up. Such is the way of the vine. Swing Swing Swing.

@astounding - if you like history so much then get this - Jews didn't own that land for over 1000 years. During those times Islam gave jews protection from Christian (mainly catholic) fanatics. For thousands of years, Europeans persecuted Jews, artists, scientists, anybody who went against church. Then with second world war - when nobody really wanted those jews, the British masters created Israel artificially. Now those are facts. How do you like those facts?

Secondly if you believe in necessary violence then why would Hamas violence be any more right or wrong from Israeli violence.

Your arguments are quite childish and biased.

theboys - You could sit all day long pulling bits and pieces from any of the holy texts that justify killing of people who don't share your beliefs, apostates, non-believers, etc.

At the end of the day, any belief, religion, or creed that holds that believing in fairy tale creatures like gods to be justification for the killing of any human is a disgusting pathetic belief system. Sadly, they all justify killing...be it Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc. A human is a real thing...a god is not. They may be really fighting over the land or money or power, etc, but they use their beliefs to justify it.

You might as well argue over whether Superman could kill a dragon.

Palestine conveniently leaves out that they had land until they attacked Israel in the first place, along with other countries. After the first war, Israel took some territory but not all. Palestine still had a country despite being an aggressor and losing. The second war was when Palistine and the other Arab countries in the region all ganged up on Israel at once, on a very holy day for them in Yom Kippur. To be the aggressor again, gang up with other countries for a strike, AND do it on one of if not the holiest day for a Jew is beyond not ok. It was after that second war in which Israel took the rest of the land.

Here's what people neglect to mention about Israel. Israel was a country created by the UN as a direct result of what happened to them with the genocide and concentration camps and such during World War II. The UN decided they needed a country after that, so they founded one. Agree with the methods to found it by the UN or not, Israel exists now. And Palestine existed before they instigated wars against Israel twice. Israel even tried to give up land back to them for peace, and yet still they launch rockets over the borders every few years. When one is surrounded by enemies who refuse to acknowledge your right to exist, and go so far as to attack you buy blowing up civilians with bombs and launching rockets over the border, you can understand why Israel is on edge. They have to be, because they are always in immediate threat by some Muslim extremists. (Note not all Muslims are extremists or terrorists, just the ones which do things like launch rockets over the border.)

This is what Palestine warmongers do. They deny Israel's right to exist, instigate attacks, and then blame Israel for having the gall to defend itself. It's disgusting that there are so many people who fail to realize or admit this. There are peaceful Palestinians, but Hamas is not peaceful or righteous. They are thugs and murderers hiding behind the Palestine cause. If they spent time actually trying to focus on peace instead of blowing up Israelis, they might have a legitimate argument. And if anyone launched rockets over the border of the United States, we would have that area cleared out within a week. But because it is Israel you have all the detractors saying how they should hold back and create peace talks and stuff. How many years of being attacked by countries, governments, and extremist organizations who refuse their right to exist must Israel put up with? It is at the point where they get attacked and now people are calling them wrong or worse for defending themselves? What bull!

They should give control of the Gaza Strip back to Egypt, they already have the border secured. What would Hamas do then?

They could be Egyptians, or fight Egypt to be able to call themselves Palestinians.

And another thing, Israel didn't instigate a single war. Every single one of them started with Israel getting attacked. I love how people try to justify that by conveniently not mentioning it.

Who is leading HAMAS--Palestine? Iran is doing all the underhanded planning. Talk is cheap as they will find out in the end.

The Media blames Israel for the killing of Palestinian children amongst the War, slanting the truth. This is truly sad, because HAMAS has put women and children in their Missile Launch Sites, in densely populated areas!, also using them as Human Shields, so they do not attack or get killed. This is a love for humankind, their own?--they are the Terrorists who want to rule Israel.

Netanyahu is NOT intimidated by these cowards who are also killing Israeli women, children, and men. He will move forth to eradicate HAMAS from ever getting their feet over the tiny border of the Gaza Strip, Golan Heights, of which Israel has given them 99 per cent of Gaza.

Israel has brilliant Soldiers, strong Military Force, Fighter Jets the Iron Dome, and a strong will to live. The Extreme Muslims want to die. So let Israel give it to them, meeting Allah in Heaven or Hell. "Allah Akbar". A familiar "chant".

Ahdinemajad's tongue is like a fox whetting it's appetite for the "Kill". He needs to be Eradicated, turning the entire ME/N. Africa upside down; now Turkey is another turncoat against Israel.

Israel stands alone---they will survive the Terrorists. Where's the help?

                      @ Ed,

Hamas started it (again) by launching rockets over the border (again). And then they have the gall to demand Israel stop firing their rockets, while Hamas continues to fire the very same kind of rockets which they used to start this in the first place. When you are surrounded on all sides by areas with people who refuse your right to exist, and try to blow up your people, you defend yourself. Period. That's all Israel is doing. The US already would have swept through the Gaza strip had it been us in that situation. I don't see why Israel can't defend itself after being attacked yet again. And why is it no one mentions the Israeli casualties caused by Hamas rockets, which again were fired first?

What about the land Israel has stolen from the Palestinians much less the thousands murdered and millions displaced

millions displaced? so much for "verify", can't "trust" his non-facts.

about 600,000 "palestinians" were displaced in the attack upon Israel when it was created, yet none of those that love to bring up that little fact (as well as those that love to lie and enlarge it) ever mention the fact that 500,000 Jews were forcibly displaced from arab countries without compensation or even passports, leaving them only one place to go, Israel. if the "palestinian's" "arab brothers" really gave a spit about the "palestinians" rather than wanting to exterminate the Jews, why didn't they allow the displaced "palestinians" to live in the homes of the displaced Jews?. instead in their show of "love and support for their arab brothers", they forced the displaced "palestinians" that they saw as too weak to stand up and slaughter the Jews into refugee camps. and then fought like mad to prevent any possibility of said "palestinians" being absorbed into their own countries.

every other group of refugees is allowed to emigrate to other countries, but not palestinians", why is that? answer because the "palestinians" are seen as nothing but pawns in the game to push the jews into the sea once and for all.

This is just absolutely amazing that the Bible predicted this so accurately and further shows God’s power, knowledge, and truth.

Ezekiel 38 mentions Persia (Iran), Ethiopia, and Libya as well in this battle with Israel.

The residents of the Gaza "concentration camp" are due our empathy for the plight they find themselves in and for their succumbing to the Hamas agenda...their situation is untenable. But let's be realistic: it is not the defiance of Hamas that protects Gaza but the concern, however much disparaged, that Israel, as a
client state, has for the public opinion in the United States that keeps Gaza from total annihilation.

The majority of people in the world get a cheap feel good bleating about their concern for the Gazans...and that is the key to this situation. The operative concept for Israel is "never again." Never means just that, by whatever means necessary, IT SHALL NOT HAPPEN...neither the Holocaust itself nor the reliance on others to protect the Jewish people. Even if the Christian West meant well (in many cases, obviously not), good intentions cannot be relied upon...as Czechoslovakia discovered in 1937. I'm not Jewish but the logic is crystal clear to anyone who cares to see it: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. The fact is that Israel will not be fooled again.

If Israel does not feel secure, why would they be expected to concede anything in peace negotiations? I think peace initiatives a fool's errand as this tiny enclave in a sea of Islamic hostility will never know peace. And who is there that they can negotiate with that can guarantee lasting peace anyway? And why should we care...do we have to be the "Nanny State" abroad as well as at home?

So my conclusion is that the US should butt out and let the protagonists sort it out for themselves. Cut Israel loose as a client state: don't fund it on the one hand but don't leash it on the other. I don't see why
it is in our interest to be sending money or weapons to either side...we are simply enabling.

And let us never forget that the Palestinian Arabs are left twisting in the wind by their so-called Arab "brothers" who have, for generations now, refused them hospitality and sanctuary in the huge expanse of
territory and with the oil wealth at their disposal. If there was one ounce of sincerity in them, the squalor their "brothers" exist in Gaza could never have happened. Gaza is not and should not be viable and one way or another it will end. The only way it will be a good end is if their Arab brothers finally face up to their
                        responsibility.

@astounding "until they finally left Egypt, the Bible says they left "armed"... well, I'll spare you the history lesson. That is their state, which all Western Civilization recognizes as it's own, the Jews and Hebrews and Israelis have been very tolerant so far."

You left out the part where how many nations boycotted the U.N. vote to make Israel a nation? The U.N. went ahead with it anyway to make it "legal" in your opinion. You took it by force, how many passages in the old and new testaments talk about war, what about the "armed" and the leaving Egypt part? WTF IS WRONG with the Koran having some passages about war? WTF is wrong about the people in Gaza trying to defend themselves.

What other religion has a "homeland" ALL TO ITSELF? How bad is it here is America for most Jewish people? Hard to even tell someone is Jewish unless they have a yarmulke on. Funny that in most Christian churches and homes in America we force people to remove hats head coverings. We love to do things a$$ backwards here, much like the Sabbath is on Saturday not Sunday. I normally do not find out until I start talking to someone, that they are Jewish, people are people.

Granted launching RANDOM rockets into Israel is beyond stupid imo since they are not even "aimed" at any targets and kill civilians too. Both sides play the victim when it suits their cause. The money could be better spent to improve the conditions there, but guess who has all the guns and weapons and controls the area? Would that be the nice Palestinians or the bad gang members? That would be the extremists that want to "kill Jews". By outlawing weapons in the area you are PROMOTING extremism, but you are not "smart" enough to want that. You could also help out some too and make the conditions better, but once again that is not what you want.

What you want is "The Dome should be torn down and their own Temple rebuilt, and this discussion of splitting Jerusalem and Israel does nothing good for anyone. There is no "Palestine" therefore there shouldn't be Palestinians. (Do your roman history here to find out why.) Give muslims in Gaza and the rest of Israel an ultimatum to evacuate or be destroyed.". ROFLMAO only a Zionist want to tear down the dome, nice try at acting like you are not a Zionist at all to make the sales pitch sound better. What would tearing down the dome do but piss off EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE OVER 1 BILLION MUSLIMS ON THE PLANET? Why do you want the right expect the right to exist as a nation, but not the people of Palestine? How many Muslims live peacefully inside Jerusalem? I actually know people that either live or have lived in all parts of Israel/Gaza not to mention the surrounding countries so do not try to B.S. me. People are people, there will always be good and bad ones. You want more land plain and simple. You want to rebuild your temple so that God will reappear, when if you actually read the passage it states that he left the temple with you and went with his people. He did not "leave" you, but you are to blind to see that. He loves to give you enough rope to hang yourself time and time again.

Funny you should mention Roman history since who did God let invade you? What was King Solomon's crimes against God? Lots of gold and women? My uncle tried to argue with me this weekend that it was only women, but it was both. Deuteronomy 17:17, Moses says "Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold." It is a crime against God to be GREEDY. Funny how many religious people do not follow that advice/rule.

I went to my uncle's church and took part in "Passover", or the Christian version of it anyway. Where we say that eating the bread and drinking the wine (grape juice) in remembrance of Jesus is the new covenant between God and man. Right after the ceremony the preacher gets up and starts to talk about how the "land" of Israel belongs to the Jewish people... WTF was the point of the whole "new" covenant again? He stopped at Moses and never mentioned King Solomon, Elijah (Baal versus Yahweh), Babylon, the crusades, etc.. How many times have the "chosen" people have failed "God"? According to Christians the Jewish people will fail again, they (not I) want you to fail so that WWIII can happen and they get "raptured" up to heaven and do not get to experience any suffering. They will suffer only a little as they die and be "swept away" just like Peter says they will as in Noah's time.

The preacher then went into more B.S. about who has won the most Nobel Peace Prizes when Obama won/was given one...need I say more. I wonder who determines that btw? I wonder who controls the media and money in this country? I wondered if I was in a Synagogue or not? I wondered how many inaccurate facts one person could put in one sermon?

No single piece of land has been the cause of more wars or human deaths in our current history. So much for it being "holy" land.../sigh. The "best" solution is to move everyone off that piece of land and make it uninhabitable. A stalemate since no matter which group controls the land one of the other groups will not be happy, EVER. Nuke it or store/spill radioactive waste there. That will fix the problem and it is fair, but no one ever wants the simple/easy solution. We still have plenty of homes for sale here in America and many people already have duel citizenship with this country voting in our elections too. Would be nice if you would pay taxes instead of getting 3-6 billion or $500-1000 worth of aid/U.S. taxpayers money for EACH person every year that is in Israel. How much did we give Israel to build the "Iron Dome" defense system? How many lives have been lost over a piece of MATERIAL? What does the bible teach about worshipping MATERIAL? /sigh talking to a bunch of f***ing addicts. Start up WWIII and lets get this chit over with if you are going to be this f***ing stupid about it, survival of the fittest it is.

Very interesting how you glossed over the key part of history here. By "a war ensured" you mean that 5 arab nations attacked israel on the day of its creation in clear violation of international agreement, sparking 6 decades of violence?

Eric - you portray that war as an act of unprovoked aggression by the surrounding Arab states. This is dishonest and untrue.

In fact there had been an ongoing civil war between the dispossessed Arab inhabitants and the Jewish settlers. Ilan Pappe, an Israeli historian details in his book, "The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine" how Zionist settlers in British Mandated Palestine engaged in systematic removal of the Arab inhabitants. You seem to take the position that neither the Palestinians, nor their Arab neighbors had the right to resist such actions.

I'm not one of those who claims Israel has no right to exist. What is done is done, and to uproot the millions of Israeli Jews who have made their home there for 2 or 3 generations would only add one more wrong to a region with a long history of ethnic and religious slaughter.

But, it is completely inaccurate, and non-productive to portray the Palestinian Arabs as insensate animals, motivated only by spite and jealousy. Back in 1948, they got f*cked, and unfortunately, unlike the American Indians, they are still around in sufficient numbers to make their anger felt.

Astounding, are you truly an Israeli advocate, or just a pro-Palestinian plant posting stuff to make Israel look bad? I ask because you are certainly making Israel look VERY bad.

First you say Gazan's should be given a choice to leave or die, then you complain about the poor plight of the Jews because in 1948 they didn't have a home.

What kind of a freakin' double standard is that???? It's okay for Palestinians to be homeless, but not the poor Jews?? Because the Jews are more special than the Gazans, I guess. One of Hitler's demonized faults was in promoting the idea of a superior race. And now you think Jews are superior?
How can you be so freakin blind to your hypocrisy?

You complain that Muslims will kill all non-muslims, but apparently Judaism is no better as you Jews will kill all non-Jews, right? Correct me if I'm wrong here. Or will any Jew out there correct this impression Mr. Astounding is presenting????

Seems to me if as you clearly state life is so worthless, and given that the life of a Jew are no more or less valuable than the life of a Gazan or Muslim, the most expedient path to peace is, instead of exterminating and ethnic cleansing all the Gazans from Gaza as you suggest, just exterminate all Israeli Jews instead. After all, there are only 7 million Israelis and about a billion Muslims, and this way there will be a lot less reason for Muslims to hate the USA.

You complain about the rocket attacks, but Gazans should just kick back and enjoy the blockade that they've suffered though for years, and the assassinations of their leaders at the hands of the Israeli military. You want to believe Gazans believe their aggression is part of some political statement on their part about Israel being a nation, but the reality is they hate that Israel has been treating them like dogs. You give them no reason to live, and then complain they don't suffer quietly.

Complaints about the way they treat each other is just a red herring, as you already made it clear their lives, including their innocent, have no value to you.

It's time that the Israelis give up on the "eye for an eye" approach. They need to try the "kill them all and let God sort them out" solution now.

The media fauxtography continues...BBC posted footage of a "badly injured" man being carried away to safety by five other men. Thirty seconds later the man is shown – miraculously – walking around, healthy as a lark.

The same thing is true, only on a much larger scale, concerning Israels claim that 570 missiles have struck Israel. How is it only 11 or 13 or whatever number it is that are killed in Israel from 570 missile attacks - that just don't add up.

The USA helps establish an Israeli homeland - then turns around and refuses to do the same for Palestinians.

So where does the Fatah stand on this? I also thought Israel was always fighting another Islamist group other than Hamas and Fatah...another old age brain fart.

Three religions in the area and they all sprung from Abrahamic worship - what a bunch of dumb asses.

This conflict is all about land use and most notably water rights - if you are using "it's in their Holy book", you need to stop resorting to the Easy Button...you have no shame.

Go back to school and learn history. Islam always has been and always will be at war with anyone NON MUSLIM! Stop believing your liberal media, they are not the religion of Peace! Muhammed captured his first city and anyone who didn't convert was beheaded.... Christ never did this.

No, but the ancient Israelis did, if the Old Testament Bible is to be believed, so why do you complain about this ancient event?

Except they didn't even give people the chance to convert. They exterminated man, woman, child, even animals in some cases. No exceptions made.

BTW, there are about a billion muslims. If 1 billion people were at war with the other 4-5+ billion non-muslims, then this world would look very different than it does right now. Wouldn't even recognize it. You should stop watching Fox News.

Fact is it would be very difficult to tell the difference between a Jew who follows the old testament literally and a hard-line, fundamentalist Muslim. Both would be ready and willing to kill and exploit those who didn't subscribe to their faith. That's why so many Israelis have no problems of conscience in treating Gazans like cattle. Am I wrong?

But, like it or not (you won't) most Muslims are ordinary people who are out to enjoy life and raise a family, and don't consider "convert or die" to be a proper way to spread their faith, and aren't particularly concerned with world politics. Those suffering through an crippling blockade for years excepted, of course.

J P Patches, you need to start reading newspapers and/or listening to detailed news reports. Since the last incident of this type, Israel had deployed a state of the art missile defense system, popularly known as "The Iron Dome", which reportedly has about a 90% success rate in shooting down missiles launched from the Gaza Strip.

I'm not a big fan of either Israel's foreign or domestic policies. But I really cannot blame them for retaliation for a sustained missile attack from the Gaza.

The USA helps establish an Israeli homeland - then turns around and refuses to do the same for Palestinians.

Unfortunately, it was last week that Walmart had homelands on sale in their outdoor goods section. Obama and Co. must not have seen the ad.

Seriously, new "homelands" are not in ready supply in this world.

Did you read the article - it said 570 of 877 have struck Israel - here's your sign (below).

Either you are just lazy or intentionally did a spin job.

There has been talk about creating a Palestinian homeland since 1947 - you really are clueless on the subject.

Gaza has been under a Israeli blockade for years. That alone is an act of war. Everyone talks about Israel's right to exist, but don't the Gazan's also have that right?

Choices are: "Inflammatory", "No Value", and "Advertising", pray tell, which one was it? Guess the simple question must have hit a few nerves. Perhaps "The Right to Exist" is an Israeli trademark (TM) ?

The Dome should be torn down and their own Temple rebuilt

Ridiculous. The Jewish Temple does not belong where the Dome of the Rock now is. It was built over a threshing floor on the range not over the highest point on the ridge. The Dome of Rock is built over the highest point of the ridge where the rock sticks up slightly through the stone pavement around it. Threshing floors were built on flat pieces of land, not on top of rocks on the highest point of a mountain ridge. The actual Temple was built further to the south from the Dome of the Rock.

The blockade serves the purpose of limiting the number of weapons of mass destruction brought into Gaza. So far, they have only been able to smuggle them in from underground tunnels. Gaza has the right to exist (and Israel agreed when they gave Gaza to the "Palestinians" and pulled their own Jewish settlers out of Gaza by force) but they don't have the right to fire rockets over into undisputed Israeli territory and get away with it. The territory they are targeting using rockets is within the pre-1967 borders recognized by the UN.

If Gaza had stopped firing Qassams at Israel and stopped sending in their people to blow themselves up in restaurants, stores, and on buses, and stopped teaching their children in the schools and on their television programs to hate Israel and want to kill the Jews, the fences never would have gone up and the checkpoints never would have existed. If they ever want the blockade to end, they need to stop firing on Israel and stop trying to provoke Israel to war. It really is that simple.

                                    #1.139 - Tue Nov 20, 2012 2:57 AM EST

If Hamas does not care about innocent civilians, human rights violations, sovereignty, right of Jews to live in their Israel, why should Israel bother much?

Just carpet bomb the whole of Hamas areas and be done with constant provocateurs and Islamic militants.

Netanyahus is the right leader to do this!

The IDF would kill far too many innocents if they did that. They are trying to avoid that as much as is possible. They would fall for the PA trap and make themselves look like they are genocidal maniacs like the PA wants the UN and general public to believe. That is why they won't carpet bomb the entire area. The Hamas hides their members among the general population so as to add to the death toll as many civilians as possible. It makes their Pallywood propaganda look more realistic to the rest of the world and makes the world hate Israel that much more. Plus, many of them want martyrdom. Why give them what they want?

FedupwithFed: Amen. The accuracy of the bible and its description of future events does indeed confirm the existence of god. Believers have known for years the power of god and the events that would take place at the end of time is described in detail in Revelations. And the events described in Revelations are taking place. Just several more things that will take place and they will NOT be fun but the believers are not afraid and welcome the second coming.

How many rockets are made of concrete? Because that is just one of the ordinary, necessary items that are restricted from entering Gaza. Why are exports from Gaza greatly restricted? Israel has a deliberate policy to keep Gaza as impoverished as possible. All this talk suggesting Gazans simply have some political motive about Israel's existence is nonsense. You give people no reason to live, then they take it personally. You assassinate their democratically elected leaders, they get Pissed Off. You kill their friends, brothers, sisters, kids and parents, yeah they'll take up arms against you and even consider being a suicide bomber. Any Israeli would do the same thing. Hamas was duly elected into power and instead of respecting that as a sign about how Gazans feel about Israel, they've punished them even more.

Israel is hated because of it's policies toward its neighbors. Israel lives with its head in the sand, expecting Gazans to live like dogs and do so obediently as loving neighbors. They are right to be angry.

Both sides are to blame in this ongoing battle, but Hamas is deplorable. They provoke the Israelis by lobbing missiles at them then hide behind children hoping that they are caught in the middle of this war so they can dangle their lifeless bodies in front of the media. They want to ignite a regional war that will destabilize the region and create a holy war of biblical proportion. All for a pimple of land on the face of this earth.

I say build a wall around them and let them destroy each other.

Concrete is used to build storage bunkers for the rockets and for the terrorists to hide in, making it necessary to use bunker busters. The IDF don't want to use Bunker Busters because a whole lot more collateral damage will occur.

Why are exports from Gaza greatly restricted? Israel has a deliberate policy to keep Gaza as impoverished as possible. All this talk suggesting Gazans simply have some political motive about Israel's existence is nonsense.

For similar reasons as the UN economic sanctions on Iran. So, it is OK for the UN to do it to Iran to prevent their destabilizing the region but it is not OK for Israel to do something similar to Gaza, which is a destabilizing influence on the region? Hypocrisy. If they are impoverished they cannot afford more powerful weapons to start wars with Israel.

And, it isn't nonsense. Have you ever actually sat down and read the Hamas Charter? It calls for the elimination of Israel by whatever means necessary.

You give people no reason to live, then they take it personally. You assassinate their democratically elected leaders, they get Pissed Off. If they had never fired rockets into undisputed territories of Israel within the pre-1967 borders, if they hadn't created Pallywood footage of fake atrocities to start wars and protests in the Arab world, and if they hadn't blown themselves up in public places to kill innocents, they would not be in this predicament, now would they?

Hamas was duly elected into power and instead of respecting that as a sign about how Gazans feel about Israel, they've punished them even more.

Yes, they were elected into power, and they went around and killed Fatah members and collaborators on a killing spree. And, then they started firing rockets into territories undisputed by the UN. They keep elevating the troublemaking and Israel will make them pay for it each and every time.

Israel is hated because of it's policies toward its neighbors. Israel lives with its head in the sand, expecting Gazans to live like dogs and do so obediently as loving neighbors. They are right to be angry.

Israel is hated because of what the Pallywood crews have done. They have made things thousands of times worse than they really were. The Israeli have really been trying. They enact laws for equality and give them a share in government. There are, after all, Palestinians in the Knesset. The Palestinians in Gaza don't want land partition. They want the whole of Palestine and all Israel wiped out of existence and have wanted this since before the Hamas was founded.

On the other hand, Israel gave them Gaza and pulled over 1,700 Jewish families out of Gaza by incentives and direct military force for those who would not leave. That wasn't enough. They want an undivided Jerusalem all to themselves. Jerusalem is Israel's capitol city. You think they are going to give up the whole of it to the so-called Palestinians? Not a chance. So here we are, having this discussion.

But, it is Pallywood footage, with all its fake footage and fake carnage, and fake martyrdom, that has made Arab blood boil against Israel. That is why the Hamas are at it again, making crap up and filming lies. They are hoping to get Arab nations to rise up against Israel and help them exterminate the Jews and any Arabs who want Israeli citizenship as collaborators.

Concrete is used to build homes. It's NOT a weapon, and you just went on record saying that Palestinians have no right to self defense. So what if they want to build a bunker. Any people that want to build defensive structures are entitled to do so.

When did I ever say sanctions on Iran were okay? I can't believe you people are so blind at to think that everyone should agree with you on everything.

Iran is a signatory of the NPT, which Israel refuses to sign. Israel refuses to open it's doors for inspection or disclose how many nukes it has. Iran has a far more peaceful track record in foreign policy than either Israel OR the USA. They are a developed country of 70 million people, 10 times the size of Israel and just under 1/4 the size of the USA. They are absolutely entitled to modern conveniences.

As I mentioned, diplomacy is not a word that exists in the Jewish vocabulary. The single most destabilizing event in modern ME history was the formation of Israel. You're friend, Mr. Astounding, is on record above for wanting to exterminate the Palestinians. I guess that's a suitable "final solution" that he finds as reasonable as Nazi's did for the Jews in WWII. You want to complain about hypocrisy, that's who you should be talking about.

You are not much better, as you've now so casually explained why keeping Gazans in permanent poverty is a reasonable measure. If everyone in Israel is like you, Mr Astounding, and other "kill em all" pro Israel types on this thread, I have no more sympathy for you than I do Nazis. It is so tempting for me to conclude that everyone who holds your sentiments should be exterminated, even if it means all 7 million Israeli Jews. But then I'd be like you, so no thanks.

                                              You make me sick.

But, they aren't using the concrete for building homes. That is the point. I agree that defensive structures would be acceptable--in ordinary circumstances. But, these are not ordinary circumstances. They will build these defensive structures in neighborhoods with high civilian populations. Should bunker busters be required to get at weapons stores, many, many more civilians will die. That is unacceptable. Looks like you think high casualties are acceptable, though.

And, I never said that Palestinians have no right to self-defense. That is your false interpretation foisted upon it. Besides, they are not defending themselves. They have been the aggressors for years now. This latest round of rockets fired into Undisputed Israeli territory are all the evidence of that needed. Fire rockets. IDF kill those giving the orders with surgical strikes. The Hamas fire more rockets into undisputed territory. Repeat.

When did I ever say sanctions on Iran were okay? I can't believe you people are so blind at to think that everyone should agree with you on everything.

Why would I think that every one should agree with me? By the way, Iran is now supplying weapons. The latest Fajr rockets are Iranian tech. You disagree. I can see that. You think it is OK for Iran to violate UN sanctions but not Israel? Curious and hypocritical at the same time.

Iran is a signatory of the NPT, which Israel refuses to sign.

And, yet, Iran is using centrifuges of the kind that can be used to manufacture nuclear weapons. They are not technologically there yet, but, they have developed ICBM technology that eventually can reach both Israeli and American shores. Why develop ICBM technology if you don't plan to arm those ICBMs with nuclear warheads?

Israel refuses to open it's doors for inspection or disclose how many nukes it has. Iran has a far more peaceful track record in foreign policy than either Israel OR the USA. They are a developed country of 70 million people, 10 times the size of Israel and just under 1/4 the size of the USA. They are absolutely entitled to modern conveniences.

BS. Inspections have taken place in Israel. An official invitation for the IAEA to inspect the Soreq Nuclear Research Facility was extended and Soreq is now under IAEA inspection as of September 2012. Dimona was shut down in January 2012, but I am not sure whether it was reopened as of late. In any case, please try to keep up.

More BS. If there was no such thing as diplomacy in Israeli vocabulary how to explain all the peace talks and all the officially signed documents ending wars with Israel's Arab neighbors? Prone to exaggeration much?

And, anybody who approves of the extermination of Palestinians is an idiot. I do not approve of that and the Israeli government does not approve of that.

Not all Israeli hold to views of extermination of Palestinians. That is PA propaganda. The vast majority do not hold such views. I do not hold such views. But, you also should understand that I do not currently live in Israel and I am not Jewish. But, do know what is going on. I have many friends all around the world who keep me informed when I cannot gather my own intelligence.

And, any sanctions are reasonable measures when it comes to the safety of nations and regions, and the stability thereof. You, for one thing and by the way, have not established extreme poverty among the people of Gaza. Have you looked at the latest news footage of Palestinians in Gaza?

So many Palestinians look very well fed, are clothed in decent clothing and not rags, and so many of them I saw in the footage have cell phones, including the new iPhone 5! They don't look like they are in extreme poverty. The Hamas is just using propaganda to be able to import weapons that can reach Israeli cities more easily. This cannot be permitted no matter how much you really want it to happen.

Interestingly enough, Apple iPhones are selling in Gaza and were available there several weeks before they will be available in Israeli stores! http://www.cnbc.com/id/49420631/New_iPhones_Snapped_Up_in_Gaza_Despite_Poverty

                                              You make me sick.

You make me far sicker. You also do not understand the fact that Pallywood has had such an effect on you as it has. That much is obvious. You should watch some of the Pallywood footage. They are at it again, by the way. The raw footage shows dead guys getting up and walking around smiling, with no damage, after the sight-bites have been filmed. But, sick people like you think the footage is all real and grow to hate Israel all the more.

Have you considered sitting down with someone living under this blockade and explaining to them the loving reason why they are not permitted to have concrete? That it's for their own good? I'm sure once you do, they will freely choose not to allow concrete into the Gaza Strip.

                                              Of course I'm being sarcastic.

When Jews (and other groups) were living under oppression in Nazi Germany, you can be fully assured that the vast majority of German military that processed Jews, directing them into ghettos were doing so for the same charitable motive. The Jews simply could not think for themselves, did not know what was best for them. Thankfully, they had the German government there to hold their hand and guide them. Seriously, there is no doubt whatsoever that most all the soldiers of that era that guarded them, herded them, registered them and processed them were reasonably good people, with loving families. They just did their job, and believed the same thing about Jews as you apparently believe about Palestinians. They are not bad people, but just stupid, too stupid to know what is good for them. And the Israelis have so thoughtfully provided a blockade to only see that they get things that Israel has decided is best for them.

                                              Touching.

They have been the aggressors for years now.

How many assassinations has Israel's Mossad carried out? Not just in Gaza but throughout the middle east? Civilians in Iran? This again ignores the blockade, though you've already explained how that's actually a charity.

The latest Fajr rockets are Iranian tech. You disagree. I can see that. You think it is OK for Iran to violate UN sanctions but not Israel? Curious and hypocritical at the same time.

And who made the white phosphorus that Israel used during Cast Lead (such a cute code name). In violation of laws of war which are intended to prevent crimes against humanity?

That last reference.... wonderful comparison. Is this an admission on your part that Israel is violating UN sanctions?

And, anybody who approves of the extermination of Palestinians is an idiot. I do not approve of that and the Israeli government does not approve of that.

Mr. Astounding does. But glad to hear you stop short of that.

The raw footage shows dead guys getting up and walking around smiling, with no damage, after the sight-bites have been filmed. But, sick people like you think the footage is all real and grow to hate Israel all the more.

Sounds like you are now claiming that in spite of a blockade, there is neither poverty nor civilian combat deaths in Gaza from the latest round of bombings.

But what's not disputed, and where you are in error, is your belief that those in Gaza are too stupid to be trusted with items as mundane as concrete. If you don't believe in extermination, fine, but you have already taken the first step down that unfortunately familiar Nazi road by saying the people in Gaza need to have their decisions made for them and their lives controlled.

the iron dome defense system can tell which ROCKETS (they are mostly unguided rockets, not guided missles, and are very inaccurate) fired from gaza will hit near populated areas and which won't, if the rocket is not going to land near a populated area, the "iron dome" won't bother trying to intercept the incoming rocket.

if you think every rocket from gaza is some kind of precision weapon, then you have been watching too much tv.

Hamas has controlled Gaza since Israel withdrew in 2007. The group has mostly adhered to an informal cease-fire with Israel after the war there in the winter of 2008-09.

                                                http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/15/opinion/another-israel-gaza-war.html?_r=0

Would someone please explain how that jives with the fact that Hamas launched 650 rocket attacks in 2011 and nearly 1,000 this year alone?

But, in recent months, Hamas has claimed responsibility for participating in rocket firings, and last week it took credit for detonating a tunnel packed with explosives along the Israel-Gaza border while Israeli soldiers were working nearby.

Israel has a right to defend itself, but it’s hard to see how Wednesday’s operation could be the most effective way of advancing its long-term interests. It has provoked new waves of condemnation against Israel in Arab countries, including Egypt, whose cooperation is needed to enforce the 1979 peace treaty and support stability in Sinai.

Hamas is a dangerous adversary that may never accept Israel’s right to exist. But it would be easier to win support for retaliatory action if Israel was engaged in serious negotiations with Hamas’s rival, the Palestinian Authority, and working toward a durable peace agreement.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??????????? Talk about an oxymoron!!! Would WE put up with daily rocket launches on us? NEVER! No one would….and no one should!

Do you think that the world will continue condeming the Palestinians, while the Israelis continue being the "victims"

The "victim"card is overused, and the Israelis need to start making connections with their neighbors. There is a reason why they are hated: They are always hating too.

Long range thinking has been almost absent in the actions of Israel, US, British, French, Germany and others.

Or else, why anyone with a little sense go into Iraqi wars; save the most corrupt, despotic, bigoted, seventh century barbaric and beastly Kuwaiti ruler with 65 plus wives and fix his golden toilets, House of Saud (House of mad Wahhabi seventh century desert bigoted Islamic beasts) and other Sunni ones; and commit harkari by permitting Sunni Saudis and oil companies to manipulate oil prices sky high?

The worst was stationing the US forces in Saudi Arabia without Bibles and that to save that House of Saud and their holy places.

Hope people remember the payback of 9/11.

Just watch how the Sunni Saudi dominated Arab League leaders are dancing on Gaza aganst Israel and chest beating, weeping and pleading on Syria to support the Sunni Syrian rebels against Assad.

The worst Islamic traitor and the seventh century dancers are the Turkey's Erdogan and his party leaders! They are supposed to be NATO allies!

Where are long term thinking in anyone of the actions including sanctions on Iranian oil?

Okay, so far the death count is, 3 Israelis, 95 Palestinians -- now WHO needs more long-term thinking??? The ONLY thing Hamas is doing is proving they are NO MATCH for Israel; they should quit now while they're BEHIND!!!

So these "leaders" are backing Hamas and their attack on Israel. Nice. Loving this Arab Spring weather we're having.

There should be no negotiations. NOW is the time to end Hamas forever, and then continue into Iran. These war "games" are rediculous. Start a war and it doesn't work out for you too bad. You die and ALL of your followers die. This should have been done in 1967. It should have been done in Lebanon. When will we learn. Exterminate the Palestinians to the last woman and child. Same with Iran. Then we can finally have peace in this world.

Gee Eric...that's so cleaver. I especially liked the "bomb, bomb, bomb" part. I have to admit, that adds a great deal to the discourse. I take it you learned that in the John McCain school of diplomacy.

First of all the jury is still out on the Egyptians. Yes they are showing solidarity with the Palestinians, the same way we show solidarity with the Israelis. Two situations you are either ignoring because they don't fit you politics or you just haven't noticed.

                                                1. The Egyptian/Israeli peace accord still stands.

                                                2. Egypt is hosting a meeting of local leaders to try and arrange a cease fire.

"President Barack Obama on Sunday defended Israel's airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, but he warned that escalating the offensive with Israeli ground troops could deepen the death toll and undermine any hope of a peace process with the Palestinians.

"Israel has every right to expect that it does not have missiles fired into its territory," Obama said at the start of a three-nation tour in Asia."

I understand your political agenda, still try not to misrepresent history...especially while it's still unfolding. Here's a hint; it doesn't impress anyone and you'll only lose elections. But then, you already know that...don't you.

How many times Israel have entered into peace pacts, truces and so on with Hamas?

Have they been ever honored by Hamas?

Time has come for Israel to wipe out all the rocket bomb sites from Gaza. If civilians are affected, so be it. Why are the civilians permitting these rocket attack sites in their midst in Gaza?

At the same time, Israel and Jewish lobby needs to closely examine the double games and backstabbing by Qatar, Turkey, Egypt and Sunni dominated Arab League.

Compare their actions and support to Islamic haters and militants, Hamas with their dramas, dances, pleads, and placing biased media reports favoring Sunni Syrian rebels backed by al Qaida, MB and other label Sunni killers against Assad.

What roles do we, jihadi materials, have in battles between Shiites vs Sunnis in Syria, Iran and other places?

Are we supposed to do the dirty jobs for Sunni Saudis, Qataris, UAE, Kuwait, Oman and others, oil companies and their lobbyists in Iraq, Syria, Iran and other places they show on the map?

Where is the need for sanctions on Iranian oil and break our heads with economic problems due to high oil prices?

Remember, to be labeled a terrorist act the intent must be to inflict psychological harm in non-combatants. The only terrorist act being committed is the indiscriminate, unannounced, non-targeted launch of rockets from Gaza into Israel. The intent of these rockets are to disrupt normal life and instill fear in the civilian population. You may not agree with Israel's response, use of firepower, but you cannot label that terrorism. Airplanes drop leaflets in advance to warn Gazans, smart weapons target individual cars, individual apartments, that are known to house militants. Israel's goal is not to spread panic and fear to civilians, bur rather to destroy stockpiles of enemy ordnance.

Any time civilians die it's a tragedy and my heart goes out to the innocent civilians who were killed or wounded in that attack.

But let's remember that the reason there are air raids on Gaza is because Hamas is firing rockets at towns and villages in Israel and deliberately targeting innocent civilians.

The fact that until now we've seen about 40-60 Palestinians die during this operation (including MOSTLY TERRORISTS!) proves that Israel is going to enormous lengths in order to reduce civilian casualties. And this is when Hamas terrorists deliberately fire their rockets at Israel from within residential neighborhoods, and keep their weapons stockpiles in residential buildings and near schools and kindergartens.

The IDF must be using incredibly precise weapons, with surgical precision to have dropped over a thousand bombs on Gaza and destroying hundreds of rocket sites and ammunition dumps while causing such a low number of civilian casualties!

Imagine if Britain and the allies had used such precision weapons when they bombed Dresden back in WW2 instead of the primitive incendiary bombs they used back then which in Dresden alone killed over twenty thousand people during a couple of nights of bombing back in February 1945. Imagine if the U.S. had used such precision weapons and surgical strikes in Vietnam instead of the carpet bombing that left tens of thousands of Vietnamese killed or wounded!

This is an incredible level of precision for an air campaign. Even if there are still tragic events like that family that was killed in the house where a terrorist leader was believed to be hiding.

I've spent time in combat zones and I don't trust any civilians. Not all are spies but there is always at least one in the crowd. I take this as a lesson learned from the French as they eyeballed the Nazies. All this Civilian Death Crap. They are Military wearing Civilian Clothing. I don't trust kids either, they can have a granade and look so helpless just to blow you up. Lessons from Vietnam. I won't go out of my way to kill a Civilian but I trust No One, only my guys.

Egypt is dancing on the yellow line because it does not want to lose all of that U.S. financial support. I imagine they are using those billions to arm themselves.

Palestine, I regret your losses. Palestinians, is this the reward for your trust in Hamas? Israel, couldn't you find a more specific way to target Hamas? What about agents who could single out your enemies? You can't kill a Rhino with a Shotgun full of buckshot, THINK. Making yourselves unpopular with the world is not a solution to your problem.

If not for Netanyahu and the Zionist greed for land Humas would not be there. The terrorism against the Palestinians have been going on since the 1940's, simply because the Palestinians are fighting to keep their land. The weapons the Israeli's use are stamped,- USA MADE. Our money also goes to them......Menachem Begin was the leader of the Irgun Zvel Leumi. A ""Terroristic Zionist Militia"" and Netanyahu is now the leader. Israel demands all land they desire wanted, especially all Arabs. After all is said and done, will we be next, attacked with weapons we gave them stamped USA????

Israel has targeted nearly 1,000 militant sites with about 50-60 non-combatant deaths. The surgical precision of these airstrikes are staggering.

NBC, you should stick to sports. In case you didn't know it, which I highly doubt, Gaza is ruled by force by the Hamas terrorist organization. Hamas, by word and deed, desires the annihilation of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish people. They have been firing missiles at the civilian population of Israel for years. Over 10,000 missiles, rockets and mortars of the past 7 years and over 900 in the past week causing many casualties and wide spread damage. You use lies and propaganda supplied by the terrorist bosses in Gaza and present it as news. NBC, when it comes to reporting about Israel you have no honesty, no integrity and no professional ethics.

You might want to visit http://seconddraft.org/ to see examples of Western Media and Pallywood making crap up and selling it as news. Start there, and do some research. Much of the Media does lie--a lot. Remember the Bush AWOL memos? The Media swore by them. Then, people began to realize something was odd about the documents. Finally, people found out that they were forgeries.

And, then, there was the claims about Bush planning to implement a Draft during his coming second term. Democrats in high places hinted around at that and the Media fed Americans with that one to try to prevent his election. Those who were responsible for the lies were the so-called Aspen Cabal. They were a group of Media moguls who actively worked together to try to prevent the reelection of President Bush, using the Media to try to smear him on television as much as possible. They failed but they did manage to get a lot of people to hate the man and to hate the Republican Party.

There are many examples of this kind of crap being passed around by the Media. They wanted Obama to win. What do they care? These moguls won't suffer as badly when Obama implements his plans for America. They are very wealthy. But the middle class and the lower classes are the ones who will suffer when the Media succeeds at getting people to believe the BS they have spread, and when these same voters make it so Obama has enough control to make his plans for higher utility rates, higher costs for gasoline, and additional taxes on energy a reality, America will suffer the consequences.

The prices of just about everything else will follow suit and the average American will be able to afford less. This will mean less money going into the purchase of products and services, resulting in more unemployment, more business closures, and less tax revenue to counteract budget deficits. This will result in greater taxation for everyone besides the rich to try to compensate, which will feed more unemployment and more business losses.

Follow the legislation through to its logical conclusion and you, too, will see this coming. If Obama keeps his promises, America indeed will suffer harder economic times ahead. It is coming even if you cannot now see it--if Obama makes good on those promises.

Hamas must agree to a total cease fire and quit lobbing rockets into Israel first. Israel must then also agree to same. Then, mediators (possibly Egypt and Turkey) need to sit at the table with Israel and Hamas and negotiate and arbitrate terms of peace. However, anyone over the age of 12 with an I.Q. of +55 knows this cannot happen. Therefore, the only alternative is total war. The victor dictating terms without concessions. Meanwhile, the United States needs to cut off all aid to Israel and to Egypt immediately until they can resolve this conflict and stay out of it. Offer therefore that incentive and see what dividend it brings. Then, maybe everyone will behave.

I can sum it all up by saying the only ones you can trust are your fellow soldiers around you. I've learned a lot over the years since and being wiser than most therefore, I can say that so long as religion dictates policy and idiots who believe in it dictate political policy, then, insurgency warfare will be omnipresent in the middle-east for decades and even centuries to come and the United States is fooling itself if it thinks it can ever make a difference there. That is our handicap in government - not enough veterans who know whats what. Religion and stupidity will prevail for decades to come. So will wars. When ww3 starts in the middle-east, i'm going to be stocked up on beer nuts and Budweisur because at my age that's the best I can do other than pissing towards Mecca six times a day on my ranch.

When we first started to have terrorist problems in our own country with Hijackings and such they were Palistinians under Yaser Arrafet. After committing their crime they fled to Libya and were protected by good Ol' Moahmar (Wacky) Khadaffi. They are the Underdogs? No! We've been the Underdogs for them for years. Like I tell you Young Pups, learn who is your Enemy and quit beinging such a wimp about them. They will lob off your head or shot you without a second thought.

It's soldiers have deliberately targeted palestinian children during their operations along the enclosement wall/fence, it has attacked and killed foriegners who have tried to bring in medical supplies, as well as other humanitarians supplies to the Gaza strip to assist the palestinians being held there, claiming this aid is for use by terrorist, it continually seizes land in the West Bank and then gives it to Israeli extremist who then embark on a campaign of terror and harassment against the local palestinian population in order to force them out in order to seize more palestinian land. It is time for the U.S. to stop supporting this terrorist government which in reality has nothing to offer the U.S. but problems with our truly strategic allies in the region.

They were lied to by Arafat and told the only resolution was for Israel to be annihalated and all Jews killed. Year after year of suicide bombers and rocket attacks on Israeli civilians, 12 Israeli Olympics athleletes kidnapped and killed, one of them had their genitals cut off and stuffed in his mouth by a Palestinian terrorist.

The palestinians reap what they sow. They voted in Hamas as their leaders and allow them to provoke war, and then complain when they get beat. They dig tunnels like rats and kidnap Israeli soldiers. They hide their rockets and explosives in hospitals and schools and then act surprised when those buildings are targeted. They hide behind their children and then display them when they are killed.

And now THEY want to dictate the cease fire after launching over 100 rockets into Israel and starting a conflict ? How much of this garbage would ANY country accept? Don't you think the Israelis are tired of dealing with these liars? This poor, poor palestinian routine is getting old.....we all know better.

There no better then the Nazi killers themselves.

If the Palestinians refuse, or agree but do not honor the commitment, Israel could resume bombing and/or land invasion and achieve substantially the same military result, albeit with regrettable civilian casualties and property damage.

It may be in the interest of the Palestinians to initiate and complete those adjustments now.

It is unfortunate that the Palestinians underestimated the sincerity of the Israelis after having 500 rockets sprayed on them.

It is tragic the Palestinians have intransigence as a strategy, as the death toll rises hourly now exceeding 100.

They bombed a leading officials car inside Gaza city last week. Palestinian return-fire got through and killed three people. Israel has killed more than 50 people in less than 5 days. I'm not saying what the Palestinians are doing is right, but Israel is flexing it's muscles and killing what it thinks are guerillas, when in fact they're killing mostly civilians. The spoiled brat that is Israel needs to be spanked and haven it's allowance by it's daddy (US) taken away.

Actually they don't have too, they can pick pick pick and the turn around and say look what they did and play this game if they want too.

I do not think it ill be in their people's best interests though in the long run to continue on this path.

They need to stop and they need to make peace with those around them.

It is not like they have been innocent since they were given that land during WW II and if you know history they have sown their own hatred in the area since the beginning.

It's too bad, because a lot could have been different with the right attitude over the years.

As a U.S. citizen I am not blind to the facts that both sides have issues here, but I also know one side has the ability right now to end this and has chosen to ignore the U.S. time and time again to keep this going.

Perhaps its time to cut some aid to all of them period.

I am tired of my tax dollars funding this.

These people have fired thousands of rockets into isreal, and isreal has every right to defend themselves. Muslims and Jews have been fighting for thousands of years and it will never end. Muslims breed their children to hate the US and everything we stand for.

How do you deal with Hamas which was given birth by the Muslim Brotherhood, which was given life by Nazi ideology. Hamas is no different than the Nazis in their drive to exterminate Israel. Israel has every right to protect itself - and if the Palestinians on the whole would throw off Hamas ideology there may be a better chance at building a relationship. 150 missiles fired at the people of Israel in one week is absurd. Of course Israel will retaliate - and killing one of the Nazis of Hamas was one way. Israel must defend itself - and this country must be there for Israel and support Israel's right to exist against Palestinian threats and Iranian tantrums.

This issue has now taken our eyes off Syria . . .another nation that profited by hiding Nazis.

It is overpopulated and dirty and they must travel across a check point that sometimes takes 7-12 hours just to go get some bread or medical treatment.

They are mocked by the security at these check points, and treated worse then dogs.

Sorry this is a fact not a lie.

Ok? I have seen people commenting on the blockade that Israel has imposed against the Palestinian people. They can't get food, humanitarian or medical supplies. They do however seem to be able to get thousands of rockets and mortars from Iran. Could not the Palestinians substitute some medical supplies for one of the rocket care packages from Iran? Also isn't Gaza bordered by the ocean? Can you say shipping? I think it also has a border with Egypt? Arabs only help Arabs by supplying weapons? "We want to help you kill people but we don't care if you die trying." Sounds like someone is spouting BS. Are the majority of the people miss-informed or just plain ignorant? There is a difference.

Point Two: I really don't care who started this conflict. I just know I am sick of hearing about it for the last 50 or so years. The only way to stop this is for one side to be completely destroyed. So please do not stop fighting until all are dead on one side or the other. That will finally end it.

Point Three: If you attack someone with a stick and they hit you back with a bigger stick, you have no logical reason for people to feel sorry for you. Just take your lumps and remember, whether right or wrong, TO THE VICTOR GO THE SPOILS.

Point Four: Hopefully this will finally decide who is the real "Supreme Being" God or Allah. So whomever wins this conflict, their God wins too ok? Whomever loses has to admit their Supreme Being is either weak and has no business being a Creator, or false and never existed in the first place. Can we all agree to this? Good. Thank you.

                                                                              • 6 votes

What they really want is to leave them suffering and dying so they can rail against the Jewish State. They care nothing about these poor people, they are just fodder for the islamist extremists and arab nationalists to use for their benefit. Shame on them all for not taking care of their own.

                                                                              Opening Scene;

We see the Outside of the United Nations Building next we see a man dressed in a suite carrying a brief case walking into the building he approaches the Desk of the Chairman of the United Nations, pulls out a very large manila envelope and hands it to the Chairman. The Chairman opens the envelope, reads the paper work and scratches his head, looks up at the Special Carrier with a bewildered look on his face and says; Wow this is an Extremely Unusual Request and it comes from very unusual sources this is a First for me.

                                                                              Carrier
What do you mean unusual request, who sent the letter ?
                                                                              Chairman
Did you notice the Post Marks on this letter ?
                                                                              Carrier
Yes I did, and it also has so many different kinds of stamps on it from around the World.
I have never seen so many Stamps on one envelope in my life, so who is it from and what are they want ?
                                                                              Chairman
It appears that they are following up on an idea that originated from a Film Script Writer in America who came up with an Idea of writing a short Film Script he Calls "Children Seeking World Peace" The writer posted it on line and some of the Country Leaders around the World liked the idea so that they implemented it.
                                                                              Carrier

                                                                              Implement what ?
                                                                              Chairman

Every Country in the World picked two Young Students from one of their schools a boy and a girl to represent their Country and are asking for a "SPECIAL UNITED NATION'S MEETING" that will be attended by all of the Leaders in the World but this is the Catch.
The adults are not to speak at this meeting, only the Children will be allowed to speak at this Special meeting called"CHILDREN SEEKING WORLD PEACE"

                                                                              Carrier

Wow, I see what you mean when you said an unusual request and that is comes from an unusual source you were right about that.

                                                                              Chairman

There's more this request gets even more stranger they are requesting that we install a large garden area next to the United Nation Building before this meeting takes place that we don't plant anything in the garden area just leave it bare dirt, there are to be small signs placed every two feet next to the rows in this garden area with the names of each Country in the World next to each one of these signs there will also be a watering can containing water.

                                                                              Carrier

Do you think that the Board will consider this bizarr & unusual request ?

                                                                              Chairman

Yes I do after all these are the Children of the World, the next Generation seeking the opportunity for them to be part of the Peace Process from their Generation and we should give them the opportunity to do so.

                                                                              Scene Two;

We see the inside of the United Nations building where many young children are standing paired off one boy and one girl facing all of the Adult Leaders from around the World these Children are from all walks of life all different nationalities and all dressed differently.

Every Girl is holding a small pot containing a different flower in it in one hand and a small shovel in their other hand.

Each Boy is holding a small pot containing a different kind of plant in one hand and a small shovel in his other hand.

(all of these flowers and plants are beautiful and very colorful)

Every Boy & Girl from their Country are wearing Name tags with their Countries names on the tags. The Children are just standing there in silence.

The inside of this building is silent at first then we hear whispers coming from the Adult Leaders, what is this all about, what do they want, this is strange.

Next we see a girl step forward from the row of children following behind her is another girl and a boy they are all three standing there for a minute and the room gets silent.

                                                                              Then the boy speaks,

I have been chosen to speak on behalf of all of the Children in this room. We are standing here before all of you representing the Worlds Next Generation, Your Worlds Next Generation. We only have a few words to say to all of you here today.

All of us had several things that we wanted to say to all of you today but we all decided that words are not enough without all of Our WORLD LEADERS making a Solid Commitment to end all Wars in Our World Today ! ! !

So, we only have three words to say to all of you here today... " PLEASE JUST STOP"

(one of the girls standing next to this young boy translates this message in all languages)

The three young children stand there for a minute in silence then one of the two girls step forward she says, we only have one more request to ask from all of you in this building today, please follow us to the garden area located just outside this building.

(the other girl translates this request in all languages)

The other children in the building follow the three children exiting the building followed by the Adults.

                                                                              Third Scene;

We see all of the children lined up still holding their flowers and plants in one hand and their shovels in their other hand they are paired off one boy and one girl standing along side of the garden rows facing their Countries signs that are placed in two foot sections of their Special Garden.

(we see all of the Adult Leaders standing around this garden in groups whispering to each other we can't make out what they are saying to each other but they have a confused look on their faces)

Next the same Girl that spoke earlier in the building is holding a flower in one hand and a small shovel in her other hand says, I would like all of the Adult Leaders from their Countries to stand in front of their Countries signs facing each of us. (translated by the girl standing next to this girl)

The Adult Leaders line up in front of their Countries garden signs facing these children then every child bends down at the same time and digs a small hole in the ground in their two foot section of this Special Garden. (each two foot garden section now has two small holes dug in them and everyone is silent)

Next we see the same girl that spoke earlier stand up after digging her hole in the garden she hands her Adult Counter Part Leader her Potted Flower and says, each one of these Flowers that all of us has brought here today Represent WORLD PEACE for Our Future.

                                                                              she continues..

All of the Children Around the World requested this SPECIAL UNITED NATIONS MEETING to beg all of the Leaders of Our world to help us Plant our Flowers here today to end all Wars in our World Immediately and all of the Plants that the Boys brought here today represent Commitment To Do So.
(translated again by the girl standing next to her)

Next we see the Boy that spoke earlier at the meeting hand his Adult Counter Part his potted plant then the Girl that is speaking looks over at all of the other Children that are still standing next to their garden and she nodes her head.

Then, All of the Children say the words together, in their own languages in a loud & begging tone."PLEASE JUST STOP"

Next, We see all of the Children reach in their pockets, pull out a small bag and pour out a few of seeds into each of their Adult Counter Parts hands.

                                                                              The Girl speaker then says,

we are giving all of you our seeds to take home with you so you can plant them in your gardens as a reminder of your Commitment all of you made here today to; END ALL WARS In Our World IMMEDIATELY..THESE SEEDS ALSO REPRESENT FORGIVENESS for without forgiveness there can be no PEACE, so please pass these seeds on to your transgressor so the Peace Process can begin. (translated by the girl standing next to her)

                                                                              Last Scene

We see all of the Adult Leaders bent down next to the Children planting the Children's Flowers & Plants together in their"Special World Peace Garden" Located in Front Of the "UNITED NATIONS BUILDING"

                                                                              Fade Out..

and carrying his young son on his shoulders.

We see the back of this person only, the person is wearing a black hooded robe
                                                                              with their hood raised up.

The old soldier places his son on the road then pushes him in the direction

Palestinian children are taught from an early age to hate Israel and Jews. Any children growing up with that mindset indeed will grow up to fill in the gaps of Hamas personnel who are lost in defensive actions taken by Israel against Hamas.

Not in finding joy in the ideas of "hate them and kill them" that seem so often to be the first thoughts of a weak mind.

Peace and love to all... no one NEEDS to die.

If the U.S. had Predator video of OBL driving down a street in Pakistan, we would have shoved a missile up his a$$, just like Israel did with the military commander of Hamas.

Israel doesn't have clean hands when dealing with terrorists by any means, but if one looks into how Russia dealt with Chechnya in 1999, you would find that their tactics were more brutal. This is how war is fought in the 21st century. We do the same thing in Pakistan, except we're leaving, and the Taliban will be back in charge in Afghanistan within a year.

"Hamas is particularly popular among Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, though it also has a following in the West Bank, and to a lesser extent in other Middle Eastern countries. Its popularity stems in part from its welfare wing providing social services to Palestinians in the occupied territories. Such services are not generally provided by the Palestinian Authority. Israeli scholar Reuven Paz estimates that 90% of Hamas activities revolve around "social, welfare, cultural, and educational activities." Social services include running relief programs and funding schools, orphanages, mosques, healthcare clinics, soup kitchens, and sports leagues.[46]

In particular, Hamas funded health services where people could receive free or inexpensive medical treatment. Hamas greatly contributed to the health sector, and facilitated hospital and physician services in the Palestinian territory. On the other hand, Hamas's use of hospitals is sometimes criticised as purportedly serving the promotion of violence against Israel.[47] Charities affiliated with Hamas are known to financially support families of those who have been killed or imprisoned while carrying out militant actions or supporting such actions. Families typically receive a one time grant of $500 to $5,000, and those whose homes have been destroyed by the Israel Defense Forces have their rent paid for temporary housing. Families of militants not affiliated with Hamas sometimes receive less.[48]

Hamas has funded education and built Islamic charities, libraries, mosques and education centers for women. They also built nurseries, kindergartens and supervised religious schools that provide free meals to children. When children attend their schools and mosques, parents are required to sign oaths of allegiance. Refugees, as well as those left without homes, are able to claim financial and technical assistance from Hamas.[49]"

With Hamas daily calling for Israel's destruction, Hezbollah lingering around Syria's chemical weapons, Jordan's civil unrest, Egypt expressing support for Gaza, Syria slaughtering their civilians. Please open up the Bible everyone (even for curiosities sake) and read Psalm 83, Isaiah 17&19, Ezeikiel 38 to begin with and ask God if the words are true. Unfortunately the pain and suffering is just beginning. I expect to have many derogatory comments directed towards this post, but the truth is the truth.

Call the Palestinians anything you want numbers do not lie. Isreal steals there land, look at the maps from 1948 to today, kills twice as many people & destroys twice as much property with American bombs & jets. I will take your land by force and please tell me what you will do?? Peace comes only with fairness not theft & violence from the aggressor. Palestine's are desperate to keep their land and will do whatever they can with pop bottle rockets to the death. Israel has given them no choice but to fight.Or roll over and be slaves & servants to all mighty Isreal.

Only because Israel has people who want to progress and live life and utilize technology and make scientific advancements and are civilized do they continue to get barraged with bombs and ignorance. If the Palestinians want the killing to stop - get rid of HAMAS, rise up and put in a true leader, recognize Israel is staying there and give "frickin" peace a chance !

Both sides have innocent civilians caught in the attacks, but at least Israel targets Hamas and other militants. These organizations target civilians in Israel.

I can't believe Obama took Israel's side on this lately.

They don't care about the people. Hamas needs to be taken out.
