The jews were to be given 53% of the land, even though they owned only 7%. At the time, the arabs rejected it complaining that the split should be proportional to population. Even though the Jewish authority agreed, jewish terrorist groups were already hitting arab targets outside their designated territory, before the British Mandate ended. Irgun and Lehi were committed to fight for the whole territory.

Neither side liked the partition, yet it is still what should be imposed today.

I admit I know very little about why the Jewish and Muslims cannot find common ground and hopefully peace. As a hospice nurse, I was considered the "Middle Eastern" Case Managing RN because I had the majority of Jewish and Muslim patients. I found the patients, their families and friends to be kind, respectful and gracious. I was educated on their traditions and beliefs More importantly I was taught reasoning for them. This may cause a storm of hateful replies but I found the two religions to be similar in many ways. Middle Eastern people are a welcoming and respectful. They answered my questions and where gracious when I asked about issues pertaining to my ignorance, in their cultures. Does it take the treat of death for people to become less threatening and hateful? I found the Muslims and Jewish patients and their loved ones, to be accepting and they listened to my thoughts and concerns.

Every religion has people who are extreme. I consider myself spiritual not religious. I would think "God", anyones "God"; would want us, to resolve our differences or learn to live with them.

My feelings are, the children growing up, in the Middle East have never known peace. They have been fearful, of the constant bombings and killing. It is time for the children to realize not all countries are in battle zones. If the fighting is about the land, the Gaza strip, then would it not behove, both the Jewish and Muslims to live as neighbors? Is that a possibility? Or is it about oil? If "God" had intended for his children to kill one another, why did he create us?

It is too bad, everyone cannot experience, the compassion and caring people I have worked with. It does not matter what religion, ethnic back ground or wealth a person has been born into because death is the great equalizer. I am so glad that you referred to Hamas and the Gaza civilians as 2 separate entities. I do believe that many people are under the impression that all Muslims just want to kill and wipe out those who are not of their faith. Hamas is willing to sacrifice Gaza's civilian population in order to further its objectives. By locating rocket launchers in populated areas, Hamas uses the people as human shields so that Israel will be condemned by the international community when it defends itself.

I fully agree that Hamas shouldn't be firing into Israel, but Israel shouldn't be attacking Gaza as often as they do. Israeli attacks kill thousands of civilians and close to 2000 children. I'm tired of the human shield argument when defending Israel. Gaza is about the size of Philadelphia, anywhere a military is set up in an area that small civilians are going to be killed when "precision" rocket attacks target those installations. That reason alone makes your argument ridiculous. Less than 30 Israeli civilians killed by Gaza forces since 2000, THOUSANDS of Gaza civilians killed in the same period.

The Israelis have one objective in mind, to eliminate the Indians. I cannot and will not feel sorry for Israel as long as they send out hit squads, terrorize the Palestinians and continue to kill children and civilians. I am not so naïve to believe reports from any news agency or entertainment such as Fux Entertainment. Some business people might do that but to their own peril. Unless you are a non-profit organization, your primary goal will be to generate profit. If Obama is proposing to bring tax rates back to Clinton levels, then I can live with that. I don’t know about you but I will not put myself in a disadvantage just because my taxes are higher. If there is an opportunity for me to expand and to generate more profit, I will pursue it. America still is one of the best places (if not the best place) to do business with – taxes be damned.

However, I am of the opinion that raising taxes is not the optimal solution. More than anything else, I want the government to cut back on expenditures. I still can’t understand why it is necessary to spend more than 40% of our budget on military-related expenses. There must be a better way.

When Republicans took the House, they started blocking all Democrat economic legislation. There was even big news on it. Obama tried to paint the Republicans as uncooperative. The current Mideast conflict, war and cycle of violence is of recent origin and dates from the Zionist movement that was founded in the late 19th century in Europe. Zionism holds that Jews have a right to reestablish biblical Israel in the land of Palestine, which they call Judea and Samaria. Zionist Jews claim that they actually own the land and have a biblical right granted by God to forcibly evict Palestinian non-Jews, both Christian and Muslim, from their property.

Ahmed Jaabari was also the Hamas negotiator with Israel and negotiated the release of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in return for 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.

There was a ceasefire in effect when Netanyahu ordered the killing of Ahmed Jaabari, and this was not the first ceasefire that Israel has broken. Predictably, after the killing of Jaabari the rockets from Hamas and other militant groups resumed flying into Israel, and now Israel and its US followers promote the notion that "little innocent Israel is under attack from Hamas terrorists and their rockets," and that "Israel has a right to defend itself."

It is speculated that Netanyahu broke the ceasefire because Israeli elections are coming up in January, and he knows that when Israel unleashes its deadly arsenal of advanced weaponry provided by US taxpayers to kill Arabs and their leaders, especially Palestinian Arabs, it always plays well on the Israeli street. That's why the previous Israeli government of Ehud Olmert broke another ceasefire by attacking Gaza on Nov. 4, 2008. Israeli elections were coming up, and Nov. 4 was also the day of the US presidential election and the historic Obama candidacy, when Israel knew that the US news media and the American people would be diverted by election coverage.

It is further speculated that Israel broke the ceasefire because Israeli strategists actually don't want a long-term ceasefire. Instead, they dream of liquidating Hamas and creating regime change in Gaza. Dr. Gershon Baskin is an Israeli citizen and co-chair of the Israel Palestine Center for Research and Information, and is also a columnist for the Jerusalem Post. Dr. Baskin was the initiator and negotiator of the secret back channel for the release of Gilad Shalit.

Dr. Baskin writes: "'This time,' the experts say, 'Let's finish them off. Let's do the job that we didn't do last time [2008-09]. Let's do a regime change.' Well, I ask: What then? Do we really want to re-occupy Gaza, because that will be the consequence of a regime change. I don't believe that Netanyahu wants re-occupation. So if that's not what he wants, he must be aware that on the morning after, we will still be living next to Gaza, which will still be run by Hamas. They are not going away and the people of Gaza are not going away."

Dr. Baskin further writes: "The assassination of Jaabari was a pre-emptive strike against the possibility of a long-term ceasefire. Netanyahu has acted with extreme irresponsibility. He has endangered the people of Israel and struck a real blow against the few important more pragmatic elements within Hamas. He has given another victory to those who seek our [Israel's] destruction, rather than strengthen those who are seekng to find a possibility to live side by side, not in peace, but in quiet."
