Israel and Hamas agree to Gaza cease-fire

If the cease-fire holds for 24 hours, Israel will start talking about lifting border control on Gaza. In the meantime, Israeli ground troops remain mobilized in case Hamas resumes rocket attacks from Gaza. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.

Updated at 4 p.m. ET: Israel and Hamas agreed to a cease-fire Wednesday, ending eight days of fighting that killed more than 140 Palestinians and five Israelis.

“The United States welcomes the agreement today for the cease-fire in Gaza," U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said at a news conference alongside Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr. "This is a critical moment for the region."

The cease-fire started at 9 p.m. Cairo time (2 p.m. ET). Hundreds took to the streets of Gaza City to celebrate the cease-fire, NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reported. Celebratory gun fire erupted across the city, whose streets gradually filled with crowds waving Palestinian flags. Ululating women leaned out of windows and fireworks lit up the sky.

"Allahu akbar, (God is greatest), dear people of Gaza you won," blared mosque loudspeakers in the enclave as the truce took effect. "You have broken the arrogance of the Jews."

Both sides fought right up to 9 p.m., when hostilities were due to stop, with several explosions shaking Gaza City and rockets hitting the Israeli city of Beersheba.

If it holds, the truce will give 1.7 million Gazans respite from days of ferocious air strikes and halt rocket salvoes from militants that unnerved a million people in southern Israel and reached Tel Aviv and Jerusalem for the first time.

During the Cairo news conference, Clinton thanked Egypt's Islamist President Mohammed Morsi for his mediation efforts and pledged to work with partners in the region "to consolidate this progress, improve conditions for the people of Gaza, provide security for the people of Israel."

In Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the agreement, adding that he had spoken with President Barack Obama and had agreed to fight together against "weapons of terror."

"Israel cannot sit with its arms folded against its enemies," he said in a news conference.

Hamas paid a big price for what it believes was its return to the world stage. With more than 160 dead, and over 1200 injured, Gazans and their government buildings have endured numerous attacks. NBC's Richard Engel reports.

Netanyahu paid tribute to U.S. diplomacy and Morsi's leadership, but also to Israel's resolve and the armed forces.

"I am proud to be your prime minister," he said.

According to the cease-fire agreement: Israel will stop attacks on Gaza by land, sea and air and stop incursions and targeted assassinations; Palestinian factions will stop hostilities from the Gaza Strip against Israel; Israel will ease the movement of people and goods at border-crossing areas.

Egypt is the "sponsor" of the cease-fire agreement.

In comments following the cease-fire announcement, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said the army had been effective, achieving maximum destruction to Hamas with minimum loss of civilian life.

Barak added that the Iron Dome defense system was "an exceptional success," knocking down 500 incoming missiles.

The exiled leader of Hamas said that if Israel complied with the cease-fire, Palestinians would as well but they would respond to any Israeli violation.

"If Israel complies, we are compliant. If it does not comply, our hands are on the trigger," Khaled Meshaal said in Cairo.

Meshaal also thanked Egypt for helping mediate the Gaza ceasefire and praised Iran for providing Gazans with financing and arms.

The cease-fire that capped a day of 130 rocket attacks, brought relief to the region but also skepticism – especially so soon after a man bombed a bus in Tel Aviv, then escaped. NBC's Martin Fletcher reports.

"We have come out of this battle with our heads up high," he said, adding that Israel had been defeated and failed in its "adventure."

"It failed, praise be to God," Meshaal said of Israel's eight days of attacks on Gaza, which the Jewish state said were meant to stop increasing Palestinian rocket fire from the enclave targeting its cities and towns.

Hours before the cease-fire announcement, an explosion on a bus in Tel Aviv injured 19 people, three of them seriously, an official told NBC News.

Tel Aviv police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told the U.K.'s Sky News that the bus blast took place in the heart of the city and that the surrounding area had been cordoned off as police searched for suspects.

"This was a terrorist attack," Ofir Gendelman, a spokesman for Netanyahu, told Reuters.

The White House condemned the attack as "outrageous." In a statement, it reaffirmed the United States' "unshakable commitment to Israel's security and our deep friendship and solidarity with the Israeli people."

A bomb ripped through a bus in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, wounding at least 16 people. NBC's Stephanie Gosk reports.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri praised the bombing, but stopped short of claiming responsibility.

"Hamas blesses the attack in Tel Aviv and sees it as a natural response to the Israeli massacres...in Gaza," he told Reuters. "Palestinian factions will resort to all means in order to protect our Palestinian civilians in the absence of a world effort to stop the Israeli aggression."

Sweet cakes were handed out in celebration of the blast in Gaza's main hospital, which has been inundated with wounded from the round-the-clock Israeli bombing and shelling, Reuters reported. Celebratory gunfire rang out in Gaza City when local radio stations reported the news.

The last time Israel's commercial capital was hit by a serious bomb blast was in April 2006, when a Palestinian suicide bomber killed 11 people at a sandwich stand near the city's old central bus station.

Like most Western powers, Washington shuns Hamas as an obstacle to peace and has blamed it for the Gaza conflagration.

A U.N. Security Council statement condemning the conflict was blocked on Tuesday by the United States, which complained that it "failed to address the root cause" -- the Palestinian rockets.

Meanwhile, the head of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard has disclosed his country has given fighters in Gaza the ability to produce longer-range missiles on their own, without direct shipments. The comments, by Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari, quoted by the semi-official ISNA news agency, offer some of the clearest insights on Iran's weapons support for Hamas.

Previously, Iran denied it directly supplied Hamas with the Fajr-5 rockets being fired at Israel in recent days.

NBC's Lawahez Jabari, Ian Johnston and Andy Eckardt, Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

"This is an injustice carried out by the Israelis," the house's caretaker, Mohammed Samara told The Associated Press. "There were no resistance fighters here. We want to live in peace. Our children want to live in peace. We want to live like people in the rest of the world."

Then get rid of Hamas yourselves! You elected them....GET RID OF THEM!

Israel wants and deserves to live in peace too! You bomb them every day...now you know how they feel! Dont like it? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Good point Fedup,

and just today I read that Hamas is executing Palestinians and dragging the body of one of them through the streets, for allegedly helping Israel. It's time to ask who is really occupying Gaza. Hamas are terrorizing the Palestinian people and preventing the entire region from achieving some semblance of a normal life.

Someone sent me an article titled: Gazan gunmen execute alleged collaborators

Google it. There is a picture of Hamas gunmen dragging the body of one of their victims through the streets. The only way to deal with these savages is to defeat them once and for all! It's time to take down Hamas!

Fred, when they say "elected", I think most in Gaza, had a gun to their head at the ballot box, and if you didn't vote for Hamas, I think you may have been shot, or thrown off roof tops, like Fattah members. I don't think the dragging through streets on motor cycles techinque was used then.

The only way Hamas and Iran can test Israel’s readiness and hardware is to send dozens of rockets into Israel. The fact that many Palestinians are sacrificed, in the exchange that usually follows, is inconsequential to them. The main thing is that Iranians now know what systems Israel is using and how effective they are defending themselves.

If they manage to kill a few Israelis in the process, that’s a bonus for them.

IRESPOND-2315268 How about feeling sorry for all the children that the Jews have killed?

According to the Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group, in the al-Aqsa Intifada, Palestinian military folk have used children as "messengers and couriers, and in some cases as fighters and suicide bombers in attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians." Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) have all been implicated in involving children in this way (see Convention on the Rights of the Child).

IRESPOND: Are you equally concerned about the Palestinians putting suicide bombs on children?

To me the one point in the article that makes part me say that Israel should fire up the tanks:

Celebratory gunfire rang out in Gaza City when local radio stations reported news of Wednesday's explosion, Reuters reported.

It reminds me of the Muslim communities celebrating on TV on 9/11... I to would like a measured, careful response and possible truce.. but I agree with the post Unless Palestine "dumps" Hamas and denounce openly Hezbollah then peace is not going to happen

Since the US is hesitant in "taking sides" and try the olive branch.. seems to just open Israel up for further rocket attacks... it is time to Ostracize regimes INTERNATIONALLY with sanctions.. the same way we are doing with IRAN.. and draw the line in the sand... otherwise... This will cycle again and again.. and Yes... NBC can put up the "death" figures all they want 1 Israeli death from multiple rockets indiscriminately launch speaks of Israels anti-missiles and the "terrorists" lack of capability...

NO country has to suffer this and I blame (partly) the US for sending a dual message.. the "uptick" in violence followed the Elections because the Islamist knew that Pres. Obama would do basically what he is doing now.... nothing.

This bombing of a bus illustrates one of the main differences between terrorists like Hamas and those who have to defend themselves against them. Israel has taken great pains to try and avoid civilian casualties while Hamas and the rest of these terrorists deliberately target civilians like they did with this bomb on a civilian bus. Hamas sits their and whines about civilian casualties while at the same time they are deliberately causing them on both sides of the conflict. They intentionally target civilians in Israel while also causing civilian casualties on their side. While the Israelis do their best to avoid hitting civilians, some civilian casualties are inevitable because the cowards of Hamas use civilians, including their own women and children, as human shields. They place their rocket launchers in school yards, next to hospitals, and on rooftops in civilian neighborhoods while using the basements of civilian homes and other civilian facilities to store their weapons stockpiles. They leave the Israelis with little choice but to accept that they are going to cause some civilian casualties because their only other option is to do nothing to take out Hamas' ability to launch their rockets and stockpile their weapons. Hamas demonstrates the height of hypocrisy through their actions. Why the news media does not point this out is beyond me. The news media seems to try and slant every story in such a way as to try and make people feel sorry for the Palestinians. They are the ones that elected these Hamas terrorists as their leaders and are now living with the consequences of their actions. If the Palestinians really want peace and to not have to worry about bombs killing them then they need to throw out these terrorists, not support them and elect them as their leaders.

I want to remind you that, seven years ago, Israel withdrew from every square inch of Gaza. Now, Hamas took over the areas we vacated. What did it do? Rather than build a better future for the residents of Gaza, the Hamas leadership, backed by Iran, turned Gaza into a terrorist stronghold. They fired thousand of rockets at our cities, at our towns, at our civilians, at our children. They’ve smuggled thousands of rockets and missiles into Gaza, and they deliberately place these rockets and missiles in civilian areas: in homes, in schools, near hospitals. This year alone, they fired over one thousand rockets and missiles at Israel, including close to 200 rockets in the last 24 hours....

I’m stressing this because it’s important to understand one simple point. There is no moral symmetry; there is no moral equivalence, between Israel and the terrorist organizations in Gaza. The terrorists are committing a double war crime. They fire at Israeli civilians, and they hide behind Palestinian civilians. And, by contrast, Israel takes every measure to avoid civilian casualties. I saw today a picture of a bleeding Israeli baby. This picture says it all: Hamas deliberately targets our children, and they deliberately place their rockets next to their children. Despite this reality – and it’s a very difficult reality – Israel will continue to do everything in its power to avoid civilian casualties....."

The people of Israel need to take responsibility for their actions. Stop asking everybody to feel "sympathetic" to a group of people that is constantly arguing with the neighbor.

Likewise, stop asking ME to feel sorry for a bunch of dimwits who VOTED IN Hamas. They're getting what they deserve.

How about feeling sorry for all the children that the Jews have killed? It goes both ways, and usually the people that can't buy weapons, are the people that end up dead.

And have you no sympathy for the six young men - who were PALESTINIANS at that - that were shot execution style by a bunch of Hamas thugs because Hamas "believed" they were giving information to the Israelis. And one of these young men was dragged through the streets of Gaza on a motorcycle, with a Hamas rider chanting "GOD IS GREAT!".

That's right - shot EXECUTION STYLE. NO TRIAL. NO ATTORNEY. NO JURY. JUST SHOT ON THE SPOT.

Where's your outrage on THAT, Irrespond?

Kick Netanyahu from power, and elect someone that will try at least to negotiate, without the military power of the US.

Sure. But remove HAMAS from power first. How's that??? Because you know what's going to happen anyway in a few years if the Palestinians get "their" land back, right- Irrespond? The Palestinians are going to come crying, bytching and moaning to us how they are "oppressed" by the very group they VOTED FOR IN the first place. After a few beheadings of women, shooting of children in schools and Christ knows how many other daily miseries they will have to endure under their beloved Hamas. They'll scream how they need us to "help" liberate them. And you know what Americans will say to that? UP YOURS, Palestinians. You made your bed, you LIE IN IT.

While fighting rages between Israel and Hamas, Hezbollah watches and waits

http://www.timesofisrael.com/while-fighting-rages-between-israel-and-hamas-hezbollah-watches-and-waits/

Analysts say domestic considerations and fallout from the Syrian civil war keep the Lebanon-based organization on the sidelines

Hezbollah has offered quiet words of encouragement to the Palestinians, pledging support and calling on Arab states to send them weapons to fight Israel. But beyond that, the Lebanese militant group appears to be staying firmly on the sidelines.

The military option appears off the table for Hezbollah. If it were to join Gaza’s Hamas miliants in firing rockets at Israel, it would likely raise an outcry from many in Lebanon accusing the Shiite guerrillas of dragging the country into a war with Israel. When Hezbollah sent an Iranian-made reconnaissance drone over Israel last month, the group boasted of its capabilities — but critics in Lebanon slammed it for embarking on a unilateral adventure that could provoke Israel.

Hezbollah is also hamstrung by the civil war in Syria, which has heavily damaged its reputation. Once praised across the Arab world as its champion against Israel, now many — particularly in the region’s Sunni Muslim majority — see it foremost as the backer of Syrian President Bashar Assad in his bloody crackdown on the uprising that erupted against his rule in March 2011

Anything Hezbollah says against Israel’s campaign will ring hollow for many. Already Syrian regime opponents have drawn parallels between Israel’s bombardment of Gaza and Assad’s crackdown, posting gruesome pictures on social media sites showing dead children in Syria and Gaza.

“Condemning Israeli violence while standing by a Syrian regime that is killing its own people definitely highlights the hypocrisy of Hezbollah’s Syria stance. It will further sink its standing in the Arab street,” said Randa Slim, a research fellow at the New America Foundation in Washington.

Activists say close to 40,000 people have been killed in 20 months of fighting in Syria. The brutal campaign by Assad’s regime against the Sunni-dominated uprising has undermined the so-called “Axis of Resistance” — the anti-Israeli and anti-American alliance of Syria, Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas. Embarrassed by the bloodshed, leaders of Sunni Hamas who had been based in Damascus since the late 1990s broke with Syria, sided with the rebels and left for Egypt and Qatar, though Hamas’ fighters in Gaza have continued to receive weapons from Iran.

Duku,

Don't you know that Israel would not exist today if it were not for terrorism by Jewish militants. Irgun and Lehi had roots back into the 1930's. Lehi sided with the Nazis against the British in WWll. All were pardoned in 1949 after indepandance was declaired. In 1980 two Lehi terrorists were given a state funeral and were honored on Israeli stamps. There was a military honor created for Lehi members. A former Lehi leader, Yitzhak Shamir, was elected Prime Minister of Israel (1983-84 and 1988-1992).

Do you now see where Palistinian terrorism comes from? They learned it from the Jews. They saw that terrorism could win nationhood.

I thought Obama was going to get this to stop by making those phone calls to Morsi and sending Hillary over there? He, of all people, should recognize when some one is telling you one thing but intends to do the exact opposite. Hamas has no intention of entering into a cease fire let alone negotiating a lasting peace.

Now Jay Carney is issuing statements on behalf of Obama saying that they will identify the bus bomber attackers and bring them to justice. What a joke. First, there is no doubt who the attackers are. Hamas. Second, how is Obama going to "bring them to justice" when we have no boots on the ground? This is not some simple criminal act or gang violence in LA. It is just one of many in the throes of WAR. Apparently Mr. Obama is incapable of recognizing war when he sees it. BTW, what , if anything, has he done to "bring to justice" those that killed our fellow Americans in Benghazi via a a terrorist assassination hit (yes, another act of war, Mr. Obama)?

Every time we fail to take action in response to such acts we encourage more. Mr. Obama is encouraging terrorist to attack us and our allies by his weak, essentially non-existent, responses to their continued war against US and our allies. Time to stand up in the face of war, Mr Obama, and join hands with our allies and put a stop to it.

    PJ and newscover

Hamas is the one that started this by launching rockets, hundreds of them, into Israel. Stop making excuses for their barbaric acts of war.

From the NYT. And somehow Obama thinks that Morsi is the guy to go to to get this resolved!

CAIRO — While holding itself out as an honest broker for truce talks between Israel and Hamasover the Gaza conflict, Egypt's new government sought on Monday to plunge into the battle over international public opinion on behalf of the Palestinian cause — an arena where the Israelis, more experienced in the world of the free press and democratic politics, have historically dominated.

In Egypt's most concerted effort to win more global public support for the Palestinians, advisers to Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi, a former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood who has been an outspoken supporter of Hamas, invited foreign correspondents in Cairo to a background briefing at which a senior Egyptian official sought to blame Israel for the conflict while at the same time maintaining Egypt's role as an intermediary pressing both sides for peace.

    You are right!

There is no use of any truce with Hamas as it will be broken as soon as they settle next round of battles.

This has been typical of followers of Islamic cult since the birth of Islam.

As everyone knows Jewish lobby is the most powerful one in the US. They determine most of the foreign policy actions.

Jewish lobby and Jews of Israel must realize that there are no good Muslim rulers and bad ones when it comes to the Jews, Christians and other religious groups and US, Britain, France, Germany and other nations.

It was a blunder of them to dance with Sunni Saudis and co, oil companies and their lobbyists and outsource their dirty jobs with Iraqi wars to save the Sunni Saudi, Kuwaiti, UAE and other Sunni Arab League rulers.

What did they and we got by removing Saddam?

We got in return: huge losses from all sides (economic, more dead and injured soldiers and so on); more enemies; saved the backstabbing and most ungrateful Sunni Saudis and co and made them richer and stronger by high oil price manipulations; more hate preaching and killer training Salaffi and Wahhabi mosques all over the world; Sunni Saudi and co killing machines like al Qaida, Taliban, Hamas, MB, Salaffi groups and other label ones all over the world and more.

Even Egypt has a Salaffi, MB govt now! See the role of Turkey, a "staunch" NATO ally!!!!!

What roles do we have in Shiites vs Sunni battles in Syria, Iran and other places? Can we determine the winner each time?

With the Egyptian leadership now openly proclaiming its fielty to Hamas and others that wish to destroy Israel, it would be in Israel's best interest to disarm Hamas now. Otherwise they will continue to stock pile weapons, rockets,. etc..., as the Iranians want them to do, and wait for an all out coordinated attack on Israel. Best to destroy them now while they are weaker than wait. And for the idiots like Obama and Clinton that think this is going to be resolved by talking to Hamas and using Morsi as a negotiator, well, we all know that is not going to happen.

The solution will be for the UN to declare that Yemen or some such other place is the new Palestinian state and all the radicals can move there and commence to killing each other, just like they are doing in Pakistan and Iraq

Hello folks, this evil atrocity that is taking place as reported by the MSM presstitutes is only a political perspective scripted by their masters to spread propaganda to keep the peoples of the world divided.

Former Israeli paratrooper Avner Gvaryahu, now an activist with Breaking The Silence explains how 850 former Israeli soldiers have given testimony about the gross injustices against the Palestinian people they have witnessed and made to participate in as part of Israel's military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. This can be seen on YouTube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=RYXdoipaqnY

He has also written a book "Our Harsh Logic" which outlines the subjugation of the Palestinians as seen through the eyes of Israeli soldiers. The Palestinians have been rounded up into parcels of land and are basically surrounded. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

We are all one, what happens to our brothers and sisters happens to us!

How many blood thristy israelis died ? You can count them on one hand.

So, once again, because the terrorists of "palestine" are inept and couldn't hit the person next to them with a beach ball, Israel is supposed to ignore the attacks or limit their retaliations to equal palestinian loses.

Wars should be fought with "mercy rules" like children's sports....this way we can all be winners! and nobody feels bad for losing. Hell....why not give the palestinians "achievement awards" too!

"And now, "Most Improved Terrorist of the Year" winner....Ackbar! Ackbar killed 4 Israelis, emotionally scarred 3 liberals and winged a dog with only 60 rockets this year... plus; only blew off half his left foot with a failed suicide bombing! Give it up for Ackbar!"

Why can't this country stop dictating to other countries what they can and canot do. These Hamas terrorist do not want peace, the do not know the concept of peace. The Muslim religion is sick and violent just look at the whole middle east. Iran wants Israel out and that is why they are using Hamas as the front guy to attack and once that happens, Calaphate the whole middle east. They are even trying do that in this country and Europe and if Obama lets them, because he loves his Muslim brothers and sisters. Obama made a huge mess in part of that region with Egypt and Lybia by supporting Mubarak and Gadaffi out. Its almost as bad as Bush with Iraq, now theres open doors are for Iran. This country will never learn to butt out. Hey! Hilary/Obama why don't you worry about the problems here at home and mind your own business what other countries are doing!!!!!!!!! I have a huge solution to dear old Obama why don't you STOP the aid $$$$$ to EGYPT, all the other Arab countries and use that money to help this broken country.

Chuck are you a serious mental midget? What day and age do you live in, for it is lucidly apparent you have failed to evolve with rest of the human race? Thus, it is quite obvious that Hamas, Egypt, and Iran are yet to evolve from their animalistic characteristics. These knuckle draggers start the indesciminate agressions on innocent civilians, then call foul when they get the conflict against Israel that they incited. The liberal media and the millions of peace keeping Muslims need to condemn Hamases actions, because the Israelis are not going to lye down and play dead. So when Israel wipes Gaza and all of its Hamas supporters off the face of the earth, just remember this is what you wanted. And nobody is going to cry over your unevolved destruction, there are animals going exstinct throughout time, and the time has come for Hamas and its supporters.

Hello folks, the question really comes down to this, as Israel continues its aggression in the Middle East are you willing to sacrifice your children to support Israeli policies towards their neighbors? Israel is attacking Palestine right now, they are funding and supporting the Syrian rebels right now, they are covertly assassinating people in Gaza and Iran right now and God only knows where else. If they had their way we would all be mired in WWIII. We are involved in another war by proxy because of Israel, again!

You will hear that Israel has the right to protect itself from rocket attacks and the Palestinians will tell you that they have a right to protect themselves from Israel who are continually pushing them out of what was once their own land. Palestine has been reduced to 20% of the land it had since 1947. Israel is nothing more than the bully in the Middle East and we are there big brother who will step in if they get their nose bloodied. We already assist them with weapons and satellite intelligence. Israel has the Palestinians cordoned off and basically put in an Israeli prison. The warden doesn’t like the insurrection and has sent a disproportionate amount of force to quell the “inmates”.

We have been fighting urban wars of attrition for over 10 years now and we are broke, our allies are broke. We have spent over 3 Trillion dollars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We can’t afford another protracted war a half a world away. The American taxpayer’s have subsidized the tanks, missiles and bullets being used on the Palestinians which makes us involved and complicit in the death and destruction of men, women and children in the latest atrocity.

Since World War II, 90% of the casualties of war are unarmed civilians, 1/3 of them children. Our victims have done nothing to us. From Palestine to Afghanistan to Iraq to Somalia to wherever our next target may be, their murders are not collateral damage, they are the nature of modern warfare. They don't hate us because of our freedoms. They hate us because every day we are funding and committing crimes against humanity.

I personally will not allow my children to be sacrificed and die for what I see is naked aggression against the Middle Eastern community by Israel.

War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing! No more war!

Hello FedupwithFed, while I agree with your stance on the Fed, I have to totally disagree with your stance on the latest incidents going on in Gaza. I think we can agree that nobody is going to benefit from the Palestinian Israeli conflict. The only hope as I see it is if these two groups can negotiate together in a diplomatic manner, reject outside influences and agree on a settlement. If they don't, they will be relegated to constant conflict and Israel will eventually suffer the wrath of the International community as really only the US is backing Israel's policies in the Middle East. The Europeans now have their hands full trying to stave off their eventual total economic collapse.

We are all one people and have been subjected to the whims of the Powers That Were as people all around the world are standing up to the oligarchs. In my humble opinion Israel has a right to exist. Like it or not their legitimacy has at least been grandfathered in, they just need to extend the same courtesy to their neighbors. I hope they come together for the good of the people!

By the way, only a knucklehead would think liberals in the US don't support Israel. But fake conservatives will reach at straws.

Simply put, a person has to be completely dumb to not recognize US liberals and conservatives support the state of Israel. It is pretty pathetic to try to say otherwise.

We can talk about one election, though. The election of Hamas for the government. So the people who live in Gaza and haven't bothered to leave fully brought this on themselves.

Morning Bill, Chef and Fed, like your writings.

What I find amazing how the racist atheist come out to support the Muslims, even when they are acting like complete terrorist and dead wrong. Also it is interesting how many on this thread and those related to this topic have ultra-liberals calling other known liberals, tea baggers for being in support of Israel's right to exist without terrorist lobbing rockets at their children. Some hypocrisy going on maybe, or is it the complete intolerance for any other opinion that isn't lock step with their own?

This situation requires people to look at it with critical thinking, not hypocritical thinking. Those who are racist enough to believe that one religion or one anti-religion should dominate the world should relate well to Mein Kampf, but reject in an effort to push their communist ideals on others while still reciting from it. It is quite an enigma, who really has the right to exist. The ultra-liberal racist on here say, as Hitler did, that the Zionist do not have the right to exist and protect themselves, why, please explain intelligently.

I feel horribly for all of the innocents on both sides, particularly the children who have weapons hidden right under them by terrorist so they can cry they are wronged as they target buses and shopping areas. It is a shame that terrorist make such a mess of things.

Our country was founded on dissent, it's what keeps people honest. If someone doesn't agree with your view you talk about it and come up with at a minimum a compromise or you can agree to disagree. That's what you call education and tolerance, something that isn't being utilized much these days but there is always hope!

Gaza was given to Palestine however that did not stop the attacks. Israel has the right to exist and they take every effort to avoid civilian deaths. The same can not be said about Hamas. they put a bomb on a city buss? fire rockets at population centers and then rejoice when they hear of a civilian death. Israel does not "rejoice at a civilian death" If this was reversed and Israel was Palestine and Palestine was Israel.. there would be no jews left. They would execute every last man woman and child.. your backing the wrong ppl. Jordan and others still back Israel so dont think for a minute that the US is "the only one" enough said

      Thanks Tracy

As my Israeli tour guide Ido says...You ain't seen nothing yet!

Here are Part One of my notes.

Today, let’s start by defining who “Gog” and “Magog” are, when this prophecy will take place, and what countries will be participating in the coalition against Israel:

      1. The Hebrew Prophet Ezekiel lived in Babylon (Iraq) more than 2,500 years ago and the Lord gave him a vision of events that would take place in the future.
      2. Ezekiel 38:16 specifically tells us these events will take place in the “last days” — that is in the End Times before the Messiah comes to set up His kingdom on earth.
      3. Ezekiel chapters 36 and 37 set the stage for the “War of Gog and Magog” by describing that Israel will be reborn as a country in the last days, the Jewish people will come back to the Holy Land from exile all over the world, the Jewish people will rebuild the ancient ruins and make the deserts bloom again. These things have all happened, and this suggests we are getting closer to the fulfillment of the next set of prophecies.
      4. Ezekiel 38:2 tells us that the war will be led be someone known as “Gog.” This is not a personal name. We’re not looking for someone named David Gog. Or Ahmed Gog. Or Dmitri Gog. Rather, “Gog” is a title, like a “Pharoah” or a “Czar.” Through the prophecy, this Gog is described as a military leader, a political leader, and a coalition builder. In Ezekiel 38:10 he is described as developing an “evil plan,” we know this is an evil man, a tyrant.
      5. The Hebrew prophet gives us more clues. This “Gog” is going to be from the “land of Magog.” One has to do some historical detective work to determine what Magog is, but it is possible. Flavius Josephus, the first century Roman historian, wrote in his famous book, The Antiquities of the Jews, that the people of Magog are the people whom the Greeks called “Scythians.” This is a critical clue because we know from history that the Scythians were a people group that migrated from the Middle East northward and settled north of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea in the region we know today as Russia and the former Soviet Republics.
      6. There are other interesting clues, as well. Ezekiel 38:15 says that Gog “will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north.” Ezekiel 39:2 says Gog will come “from the remotest parts of the north” and come “against the mountains of Israel.” The country that is farthest to the north in relation to Israel is Russia.
      7. Thus, we can determine that a Russian dictator will build a diplomatic and military coalition to surround and attack the State of Israel in the End Times.
      8. The question then is what other countries will be part of the coalition?
      9. In Ezekiel 38:5, we learn that the first ally Russia will have is “Persia.” Until 1935, of course, Persia was the legal name of the country we know today as Iran. So we know that Russia and Iran will build an alliance in the last days to attack Israel.
      10. Ezekiel tells us that another country in the alliance will be what many English Bible translate as “Ethiopia.” The Hebrew word, however, is “Cush” and Cush is the upper Nile region that we now know as Sudan. While the current state of Ethiopia may also be involved in the war, the focus is really Sudan, which today, of course, is a radical Islamic Sunni state closely allied with Iran and Russia and deeply anti-Semitic and anti-Israel.
      11. Next, Ezekiel says a nation called “Put” will be part of the alliance. Josephus identifies “Put” as “ancient Lybios” — the territory that today we call Libya and Algeria. Interestingly, both countries today are deeply hostile to Israel and closely allied with Russia.
      12. The next country mentioned is “Gomer.” When one does the historical detective work, one learns that Gomer is what we now call Turkey. For much of the past 80 years, it didn’t make sense that Turkey would turn against Israel. Why? Because Turkey was a NATO ally, and a friend of Israel, the U.S. and the European Union. But in the last few years, the Turkish government has swung dramatically away from the West, towards Russia and Iran, and become deeply hostile towards the State of Israel.
      13. The next country Ezekiel mentions is “Beth Togarmah.” This is the Turkic-speaking peoples that spread out from Turkey across the Causasus, and across Central Asia. We can’t be certain precisely which modern nation states from this area will join the anti-Israel alliance, because these are almost all Muslim countries with close links to Russia and Iran.
      14. Interestingly, Egypt is not mentioned by Ezekiel as part of the Russian-Iranian alliance against Israel. This is interesting because Egypt has been such an historic enemy of Israel and the Jewish people. That said, perhaps Egypt’s non-involvement in the War of Gog and Magog could be explained by the peace treaty Egypt signed with Israel in 1979. This treaty is now in danger of unraveling, but at least for the near term Egypt is still unlikely to be in a position to strategically threaten Israel.
      15. Iraq — whether under its biblical names of Babel, Babylon, Babylonia, Shinar, or Mesopotamia — isn’t mentioned in the prophecy either, yet it, too, is an historic enemy of Israel. Still, given the liberation of Iraq in 2003, the subsequent violence, and the rebuilding now going on, Iraq is not likely to be a threat to Israel in the near term.
      16. Syria and Lebanon are not mentioned by named in the prophecy either. However, Ezekiel tells us repeatedly that the main military force that will be coming against Israel will be coming from the north, which means they will be coming through Lebanon and Syria.

That’s enough for today. In my next posting, I’ll explain what this coalition does and how the “War of Gog and Magog” will unfold.

So sad to see that the first post regarding the news of a cease fire is from someone calling for more violence. You should be ashamed Duqu.

Its true Israel cannot tolerate missile attacks from across its borders. Whats also true is that Hamas cannot tolerate assassins coming across its borders and killing the people's elected leaders. There actually are two sides to issues.

Imagine if our response to the Colorado movie shooting had been to bomb the perps neighborhood, killing his neighbors and family. This is what's going on in Gaza: collective punishment for the sins of a few extremists. America needs NO part of that and I'm proud of our Secretary of State for negotiating a temporary end to it.

They need another Crusade over there, badly, as all the low-life radical Muslims take over the Middle East. It happened in Iran (which used to be a Christian country), and is happening in Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, and will probably happen in Turkey (their new president is a goon), and throughout the rest of Africa, then Europe. We need to restrict, severely, Muslim immigration into the United States or it will happen here as well. Any doubts? Just go read the history of Iran. Perfect example. It may take another hundred years, but it will happen. That is their goal.

Sweet cakes were handed out in celebration in Gaza's main hospital.....

Something IMPORTANT was left out of the article. What "sweet cakes" were given to the Egyptian (Muslim Brotherhood) government to end the fighting ? And, what about Palestine and Turkey ?

      Standby folks, open your wallets.

Hamas' definition of a cease fire:

Stop shooting rockets for the time it takes to restock and reload. Then start firing again, killing innocent civilians.

Keep dreaming. Most of what was written in the Bible was written by a bunch of men roaming around the desert in a daze, thinking they were talking to God. The fact that most prophecy comes true is usually because someone wants it to. Take Amadinnerjacket in Iran, for example.

Did the bus attack happen after the agreed upon ceasefire?

Look there is no ceasefire. There are just lulls which allows regrouping. The rockets were coming months before this breakout. They will continue because the desire to eliminate the Jews will never die. The hatred runs too deep. One step forward is 2 steps back when on both sides a certain element does not want peace. There is no trust. Can't have peace without trust.

If I hear the Jews are Gods chosen ones one more time, I'm gonna puke!! When Jesus came born a Jew and offered salvation not only to the Jews but salvation to all mankind who accept him are gods chosen ones. All old testament bets are off !!! By not accepting Jesus the Jews basically told God to get screwed.

Israeli, Egyptian and Palestinian officials have confirmed Hamas and Israel have agreed upon a truce to end the conflict in Gaza.

As the BOMBS are still BURSTING…

The deal was brokered by the new Islamist government of Egypt, solidifying its role as a leader in the quickly shifting Middle East. Under the agreement, Egypt will play a key role in maintaining the peace.

The agreement will "improve conditions for the people of Gaza and provide security for the people of Israel," Clinton said.

In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said he agreed to the cease-fire after consulting with President Barack Obama.

Israel launched the fierce Israeli offensive in Gaza on Nov. 14 to stop months of intensifying rocket attacks. Even after the deal was announced, air raid sirens continued to wail in southern Israel.

According to a copy of the agreement obtained by The Associated Press, Israel and all Palestinian militant groups agreed to halt "all hostilities." For the Palestinians, that means an end to Israeli airstrikes and assassinations of wanted militants. For Israel, it brings a halt to rocket fire and attempts at cross-border incursions from Gaza.

After a 24-hour cooling off period, it calls for "opening the crossings and facilitating the movement of people and transfer of goods, and refraining from restricting residents free movement."

BIG MISTAKE BIBI!!! Allowing them to send suicide bombers into Israel and those “goods” are more weapons!! TAQUIYA!!!!

Hamas officials said details on the new border arrangements would have to be negotiated.

Israel imposed its blockade of Gaza after Hamas, a militant group sworn to Israel's destruction, seized control of the territory five years ago. It has gradually eased the closure, but continues to restrict the movement of certain goods through Israeli-controlled crossings. Among the restrictions: a near-complete ban on exports, limited movement of people leaving the territory, and limits on construction materials that Israel says could be used for military use.

While I doubt this cease fire will be held up by either side for very long, if the agreement allows civilians in Gaza to move freely and get out of the eventual line of fire, it is a good thing.

BTW, if this cease fire does hold up for a few years, it will be a great diplomatic coupe for Hillary Clinton, enhancing her status for 2016. Sure beats going into Israel for a fundraiser and insulting half the people in the region.

The Peace Agreement is a Formality---

Egyptian Mursi will make sure the other countries do not instigate another attack from HAMAS or other Terrorist Groups. Will Iran, the backer of all the Terrorist Groups?

HAMAS to this moment is still firing off Missiles into Israel from the Gaza Strip.

Can they hold to the Agreement?---If they don't, that will be the advantage for Netanyahu to send out full force on the Ground Military operations---it should only take a day or two.

The Peace Agreement is as fragile as an egg shell. "Israel Shall Not Exist". Pfff!

HAMAS. Can even one Terrorist be contained? Not possible--rogue Terrorists. Peace--what is that? The Gaza strip (HAMAS) owns 100 per cent of the former Israeli land. HAMAS just wants the Israeli's dead. All of them--and then they can't get along with their own people. The Palestinian population is begging HAMAS to stop, so they can save the lives of their families, and not to be used as targets for their War..

As soon as civilized intelligent people realize that islam is a virus the better we will be able to deal with it. All avirus does is spread without logic, reason or agenda leaving nothing but death, destruction, and despair in its wake. It creates nothing for the betterment of civilized society except twisted tormented evil thoughts within the brains of those infected. islam destroys people, the ability to think freely, historic art pieces and any hope of human kindness, happiness or education. Science has never cured a virus nor will it cure islam. The only thing we can do is isolate the virus carriers from the non-infected. Pretty soon the virus carriers will start to kill each other. No carriers ...no virus. Witness what is happening in countries where the non-infected have vacated. The virus carriers are killing each other.

Ask yourself this question. Where are the virus carriers unhappy? Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Somalia

Where are the virus carriers happy? USA, France, England, Europe, Australia to name a few.

And what do the virus carriers want to do in the countries where they are happy? They do not want to assimilate into the cultures where they live, they want to change their new homelands into the countries from whence they came. Sound logical? A virus is not logical..........nor is islam. Time to wake up people and smell the stench caused by the decay this virus known as islam leaves in its wake.

            SEVEN:

            You got "it".

The people in the Middle East, the Extreme Terrorists are already killing their own people. This is the first time, it is known, that the Palestinian people have been vocal for this War to stop, because HAMAS planted many of the Palestinians in obvious targets areas with women, children, and other family members living there--there was a Missile in a Palestinian's home--schools, medical treatment centers, etc.

They are Barbarians who will not stop and respect the "So called Peace Agreement". Egypt watching over them. Mursi can't watch over his own people from Violence.

Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama benefit from the fragile Agreement. Both will Boast they have been the ones to support Israel, Egypt, and save the lives of many populations. It will added to their accomplishments. It is the responsibility of the ME/N.Africa to really endorse the Treaty. Like you said, it will only take a couple of days, and back to firing off Missiles into Israel.

Did you know that the densely populations in the ME/N. Africa are immense compared to how many Israeli's living in Israel. For every 200 people killed in the rogue Countries, it would equal to about 2-3 Israeli's.

Most people cannot grasp the dense population of people in the ME, compared to Israel's few. Life has value in Israel. The others are dispensable.

Children stop fighting. Just say the truth for once. You hate them and you want them to die. Don't lie to me and to others or yourself. All religion is evil and eventually it will be gone but unfortunately we live in a time were religion still exists so deal with it. As for Israel say what you will about its past but right now it is not trying to conquer or destroy anyone. As for the muslims across the globe, they kill not only infidels but even there own believers even if it varies slightly. No not all muslims are bad, but until I see muslims rise up and say this is not us and condemn and even speak out and try to stop their fellow believers, well screw them. Most other religions have gotten past their killing phase unfortunately muslims have not. Well sorry this aint a few hundred years ago, either grow up like the rest of your fake religious brethren or die in the name of progress and humanity, the choice is yours.

FedUp and sotired: what's the matter, you afraid that, as usual, the Democrats are able to move the Middle East toward peace, while Republicans just start wars, intending to give their corporate partners no bid military contracts.

You will notice that until Sec. of State Clinton came went into the Middle East, the rockets on both sides were flying, the terrorists were bombing buses, and while everyone thought there might be a cease fire, the Israeli's were gearing up for a ground war.

Now, Sec. of Clinton is in Eqypt, after having been in Israel and there is agreement to a cease fire.

Of course, that could just be a coincidence, right.

Put your hate of all Democrats aside and you could see that, at least for the people in the region, peace is a good thing.

Now if only she can negotiate a peace settlement with the Tea Party and Grover Norquistians, then we'd have a real Happy Thanksgiving.

Islam calling itself a religion is the first lie. It is a criminal political ideology, like Nazism, Japan's Imperialism, Stalin's communism.

Islam allows their children to be sacrificed by Hamas, calling their suffering worship to Islam then wantonly display their children's death to illicitly seek "christian" sympathy for monetary gain.

These so called "radical" Islamic leaders and followers who murder and slander everywhere they are sent should be hunted down until they are either found to be dead or shot dead.

If the West doesn't have the stomach for it, then, turn the Jew loose and let them perform it for us. They have saved our world once before, even after we refused to save them. They have never corrected our piety in saving them all or accused us of being too late to actually save very many of them. Just very grateful that we came at all. We were very late and saved only a very few of them. Almost all were burned up and those that were not, were abandoned to freeze or starve while we chased the Nazis away. We saved not one from the flame and those we did retrieve were barely breathing naked skeletons

NO MORE PAYMENTS of any kind to any Islamic nation, country, or government or power or group or people or person. The Arab people prefer Islam, they should be allowed to suffer for their religion. Our aid allows them to bring their suffering upon us.

We have got to align our self beside the Jew with absolute support and conviction, quicker than we already have. Otherwise, we are all dead. There will be no one to chase our killers away. There will be no one left to save even a few of us or retrieve a skeleton of us.

You think you can make it up and people will believe you? Gaza was never Israeli land. It was not even Jewish land in antiquity. In the 375 years that The Jews had a state of their own, not a province in someone elses empire, they never controlled that section of coastline, ever. the amount of time that ancient Israel controlled any coastline is under 200 years.

"Imagine if the killer from the Colorado movie shooting was a militant separatist from Canada who had infiltrated America in a larger conspiracy with Canadian leaders and then murdered dozens of American civilians in Colorado theater because of his hatred for the U.S. This incident was one of dozens of such incidents in the recent past. Then our response was to target those leaders in Canada and other "perps" of the militant hate group conspiracy who just happen to set up shop in schools, next to hospitals, and in densely populated apartment complexes. Every effort was taken to minimize civilian casualties in our response, but since this shooting was an overt act of war santioned by a neighboring country's leaders it is to be expected that some civilian casualties are unavoidable. This is what is going on...a neighboring nation's elected leaders santion the specific targeting and deaths of civilians, so the populace that elected them can expect a collective punishment for the acts of their extremist leaders."

You should not try and compare a single act of a crazed mass murderer in Colorado who kills his own countrymen because he is mentally disturbed, to the armed conflict between two groups of people living in seperate states, who practice different religions, have different cultures, and have a very complicated history of thousands of years of animosity and warfare.

This "ceasefire" will turn out to be like all previous ceasefires between Israel & Hamas. For certain, in less than a year militants in Gaza will be shooting rockets (that they obtain from Iran that are smuggled in through Egypt) into Israel targeting cities, neighborhoods, and towns. The Hamas militants will undoubtedly set up their launchers next to densely populated buildings, and if Israel responds with missile strikes Hamas will scream about the level of violent response.

This conflict is like laundry. You wear a set of clean clothes, the clothes get dirty, you rinse, wash, dry them and then repeat the cycle again. We've just been through the most recent getting the clothes dirty part. Next they'll clean up a bit, then repeat the cycle all over again. Nothing ever changes.

Hillary Clinton has done an excellent job diffusing this situation.

The 1.2 million Palestinians in gaza are walled into an area similar to the movie "Escape From New York". Almost exactly the same area as the city of Atlanta which has 432,000 people. They are walled in on all sides.

May I compliment the majority of the commentators of this thread of responses to the first entry by Duqu. The research many of you have shown in your posts is remarkable and convincing.

My earliest reaction to the problems in the Middle East was neutral. But I began to focus my attention over there with more concentration.

My original attitude began with Obama's sending bombers to Libya March, 2011, interfering with Libya's internal fights against Qaddafi. I felt it was none of our business and the action, I found, was also prohibited by our Constitution... initiating an attack and engaging in hot warfare having nothing to do with us.

I'm no longer neutral. When the Hamas terrorists began sending bombs and rockets into the Israel's peaceful homeland I took a detailed look for many months especially reviewing the history recorded, and I took sides. The Hebrews/Jews/Israelis (all the same people through history) have occupied the Eastern border land of the Mediterranean Sea for over 5,000 years according to most accounts, many by Muslim scholars.

The attacks now against Israel by the Gaza Strippers (as I call the Hamas-dominated land) are unconscionable. Worse, after Israel's kindness to them by allocating a coastal section of the Strip which was the legitimate part of Israel's own country, instead of a civilized "thank you," Hamas elected to terrorize their benefactor.

Israel had allowed them self-rule; Israel kept their promises of the Oslo Accords discussed in the 1990s whereas the Strippers didn't keep their promises for a hot minute...

I decided these savages were simply too primitive to understand anything but their own illogical behavior.

It is a pity that the ignorant Hillary bounced over there and is taking credit for the neutrality "she" accomplished. In her dreams. A good look at the immediate history would prove that Hamas won't keep their end of the cease-fire for long. Hillary only gave them time to improve their weapons.

Their libelous and malicious assertions will begin again, while they resume their attacks on Israel. I wonder what Hillary will do then? Put on a metal helmet and pout?

It's a shame you have no idea about the War Powers Act. Yes, what Obama did IS constitutional. And, he committed no combat troops. He WAS, also, fulfilling a requirement of NATO. So, sightless, you missed.

Here we have two groups of people shooting rockets at each other and they manage to agree to a cease fire, while our elected representatives in Washington can't seem to agree on sh!t. "......and I say to myself, what a wonderful world, oh yeah."

Meshaal also thanked Egypt for helping mediate the Gaza ceasefire and praised Iran for providing Gazans with financing and arms.

Did I just see this in writing...IRAN is helping the Gazan's with financing and ARMS and nobody is saying anything. Why can't IRAN help out with financial aide to help the people with food, medicine, rebuilding, you know, "common sense things!" Why are they giving them weapons. This is so twisted! IRAN is being praised...seriously?

Freethinker, first of all, the fat, old, wrinkled cow Hillary Rockhead Clinton did NOTHING but delay the ceasefire going into effect by dragging her ragged backside there 24 hours AFTER both sides were ready to stop shooting. After that, all she did was waltz in and try to take credit for others' work, just like the book she said she wrote. And the word you were trying to use was "you're" NOT "your".

Roadkill.... I think you should research the War Powers Act of 1941, which was, of course, a prelude to our engagement in World War II.

In 1973, Congress dealt with the Act to clarify it and it is a Federal law called the War Powers Resolution. And that Resolution provides that ...

Powers Resolution of 1973 (50 U.S.C.1541-1548)[1] is a federal law intended to check the President's power to commit the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of Congress.

Yet, that is exactly what President Obama did by sending 5 bombers to Libya's internal rebellion which, btw, were not just against Qaddafi but against each other. And on that March 21st, 2011, we DID have a casualty, killing our pilots and their support staff when one of the five planes was shot down.

Further, myriad citizens not involved with the internal "civil wars" were also killed.

Obama never asked Congress for ratification (i.e., to you "consent") until after the WAR we got into there had lasted over two months WITH OUR PARTICIPATION and ended. Five months later he made the request for ratification he should have requested in the first place, and Congress turned him down.

So Roadkill... I think you might go back to killing more roads but be sure they have been abandoned first.

                                      Ed,

You should study up on your history. The Arabs in the area were given a chance to create a nation of Palestine and many of them rejected that opportunity. Instead, they decided to attack Israel with the help of Egypt, Syria and Jordan. It was more important for them to destroy Israel than it was to build their new nation.

Just watch the roles of the US "strategic allies" in ME like Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Sunni Saudi (the biggest culprit and criminal) in rocket attacks from Gaza, this bus explosion (Hamas another Sunni Saudi label haters and killers like MB) and their actions.

They are trying to fool Jewish lobby, US and allies.

Just compare the dances of "strategic allies" on Syria and Iran with their current actions.

Media and Jewish lobby (hence Hillary and co in the US) had started counting the "children", "women", "chemical weapons", "WMDs" in Iran, "Russian and Chinese interventions" and so on just like before each Iraqi war!

For the sake of these "strategic allies", is there any justification for sanctions on Iranian oil?

What do we have in Shiites vs Sunni battles in Syria, Iran and other places?

Shrooms; just where do you think these people can gogogo to? They are blockaded by Israel, so where do you think they are to just go?. Do you think Hamas will sit back and let people just pack up and go? This would indicate that they are not supporting Hamas' actions, and they would be signing their own death sentence. I have sympathy for the civilians of both regions; they are at the mercy of the powers that be, but at least the Israelis have people who want to help them.

Apparently, Egyptian president Morsi and Obama spoke 3 times in the last 24 hours, and it was really Morsi, much to the surprise (and probably disbelief) of many of the Muslim haters, that was pivotal in negotiating this ceasefire. Of course, there will be Hamas terrorists that are too far gone who will listen to anyone, but I believe that the everyday Palestinian people just want to live their lives free of fear, the same as the Israelis, or any other people. I bet that if everyday people were just left alone by the powers that be who dictate to them how they are to feel, and who they should like and who they should hate, there would be a lot more tolerance for each other.

Mr. Netanyahu, Mr. Barak, why wait so long? Any other country would have defended itself much sooner. When hamas breaks the cease fire make gaza a crater, finish it quick. And lets not kid ourselves, Morsi is only protecting the $$$$$$$$$ obama is sending him. Morsi would love to see hamas win. thats so funny, claiming victory and getting your butt handed to you. you gotta love that. And wow! hil clinton, really? what a laugh

IF (and a big if) Hamas in Gaza stops rocket strikes in southern Israel, there will be no further attacks into Gaza. It took way too long and way too many rocket attacks onto Israeli soil for Israel to respond. No other country in the modern world would have waited so long before retaliation. If Hamas lays down their arms, there will be peace in Gaza. If Hamas loves their children more than they hate Israelis, there will be peace. Meanwhile, AFTER the ceasefire, 5 rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel. Don't come to a battle with only a pop gun if your enemy has an arsenal. Meanwhile, during this entire episode, Israel did not cut off water and power into Gaza. The Israeli's also informed the residents when and where they would target. Its obvious who wants peace and who doesn't.

""Allahu akbar, (God is greatest), dear people of Gaza you won," blared mosque loudspeakers in the enclave as the truce took effect. "You have broken the arrogance of the Jews.""

How can you have peace with such Islamic religious mad people?

Even after getting badly beaten, Islamic religious Nazis imagine that they have won.

During most of the problems in a Muslim nation, British, French and Germans add their dances and dramas. Why are they taking a break?

The leaders of Hamas are too stupid to realize just how close they came to having their tail ends handed to them on a platter by the IDF! Hamas's outrageous claim of victory is a face saving measure solely for the benefit of the Palestinian people and other Muslims in the region such as Hezbollah, Syria, and Iran!

Attacks on Israel are not news. It's when Israel defends itself that it becomes news along with the finger pointing and accusations that come along with it. Funny that no one batted an eye when Turkey blasted Syria in return for dropping a few in their backyard.

Now, now people, remember to be nice. How far do we go back into history to demonstrate the injustices that have been done to people?Where do we begin to count, so that one side or the other can understand it began at such and such a point?

Israel once had a home in the distant past. Then they were scattered to the four winds. Driven and killed, persecuted where ever they went, apparently a scourge upon the face of the earth to so many practically every nation which sought to destroy and wipe them from existence. Truly a nation without a home, until just recently when they have returned.Even their city beloved city Jerusalem is occupied by others. Still the world seeks their demise.

Actually, it really is a miracle, all things considered, that they have maintained their identity. In light of the fact so many other peoples and ethnics have become absorbed into the countries and nations which surrounded them. Yet it is their very religion and rituals which has kept them apart and unique through the countless generations.

Now they fight for their right to keep what once was theirs again. The Hamas has spent years bombing them, while the world demanded they not strike back. Even as Hamas entrenched themselves among innocent civilians, knowing if Israel tried to fight back, the world would condemn them for any lives lost that weren't enemies, for being callous and cold blooded. But like David up against Goliath of old,Israel isn't afraid of going against what the world demands. It is prepared and quite willing to root out the Hamas.

It understands the real evil which the Hamas are employing against the Palestine people. And its fight isn't against those people. Like a plague which must be rooted out. It is determined come the devil or high water, to eliminate the Hamas threat. And for a people who have spent generations being persecuted, nobody understands better then Israel, how to make a final stand for what they believe in.

At the same time, they and media did not bother much about Darfur, Sudan, Nigeria, WMDs in Pakistan/N. Korea!!!

Media was looking/examining in Syria, Iran and other dangerous places! So media did not keep a count of rockets fired last year! Media start peeping and then dancing as directed by the lobbyists!

chefaz: In this Gaza business, only dancers like Hillary, Netanyahu, Morsi are jumping up and down!

Here old emperors of Britain, France, Germany, and some more are quiet. They start their dances when it comes Syria, Iran, Libya and other places.

In Gaza, on Hamas side, there are Morsi (front cover of MB, Salaffi), Turkey (a strong "NATO" ally fit for thanks giving turkey!), Qatari, House of Saud, UAE, Kuwait and other Sunni Arab league rulers and all the Sunni hater and killer machines like MB, Salaffi, al Qaida, and other label ones!

As the dancers are scattered, there have to be variations from Turkey's blasting Syria and in Gaza!

Mind you: it does not pay much to be on Israel side.

It is the most profitable business to be one the side of Sunni Saudis and co, oil companies and their lobbyists.

Look at that cheap French "socialist" Hollande doing his bar dances on Syria!

This truce will end up as a joke! Only they are fooling themselves as they did with Iraqi wars!

One can't live with rocket attacks from Gaza daily and now this bus explosion.

Just level Gaza once for all. At the same time, watch out for some other label Hamas like Islamic killers starting their jobs from Egypt.

At least for a decade, keep away from Muslim ME nations especially Syria, Iran and other places.

If we leave them alone, they (Shiites vs Sunnis and so on) kill each other.

They cannot move into Israel or Egypt or most of the rest of the world. AND they are subject to a blockade. They have to build tunnels to get food, medical supplies and construction supplies into their territory. Unfortunately, when you create a system for smuggling contraband like that, weapons get smuggled too. The law of unintended consequences. Israel needs to allow open, but controlled access to Gaza so that food, medicine, construction material, etc. can enter, but weapons can be intercepted. Israel had created its own problem by restricting access to ALL goods, thereby creating the means by which weapons get to Gaza. I.e. TUNNELS. Bush the younger originally created this problem when he INSISTED against all rational advice that there be "democratic" elections in Gaza, resulting in Hamas being put in charge.

                                                          Palestinians moving to Israel

                                                          By Uriel Heilman ·

Concerned about getting cut off from their livelihoods in Israel, some Palestinians are leaving their West Bank homes to resettle west of Israel's West Bank security fence, inside Israel proper.

Wednesday's Washington Post offers a story about Palestinians moving to the French Hill neighborhood of Jerusalem (on territory annexed to Israel after its conquest of eastern Jerusalem in 1967).

In some ways, the move is a psychological one. There is no legal difference between Beit Hanina and French Hill. Both are parts of East Jerusalem that Israel occupied during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and unilaterally annexed soon after, a status not recognized by the international community. But French Hill is a predominantly Jewish neighborhood, and Beit Hanina is overwhelmingly Arab.

"They're talking about giving this area back to the Palestinians, and then we would be stuck here," Bashir, who holds Israeli citizenship, said of Beit Hanina. "My wife works in the Jerusalem municipality as a social worker. How would she get to her job if this area becomes Palestinian?"

Many of the 250,000 Palestinians who are residents of East Jerusalem, but who are not Israeli citizens, are equally concerned about losing access to Israeli services such as medical care and social security if their neighborhoods became part of a Palestinian state. A growing number are moving into predominantly Jewish neighborhoods such as French Hill or Pisgat Zeev -- areas that Palestinian officials consider to be illegal Israeli settlements. Jamal Natshe, a Palestinian real estate agent, said thousands of families from East Jerusalem, the West Bank and even Jordan have moved into mostly Jewish areas in the past two years.

JTA's own Dina Kraft wrote about this about a year ago, and last month she wrote about a similar phenomenon among Israeli Arabs who are moving into Jewish towns near Arab-majority cities in the Galilee, like Nazareth.

Egypt’s decision to grant citizenship to the children of Palestinians married to Egyptian women is being hailed as a victory for women’s rights in Cairo -- and equally welcomed in Israel but for political reasons.

“We praise the decision by the minister of interior. This is a victory for human rights and especially for women’s rights because it gives them equality,” Nahed Shehada, the head of programs for the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights, told The Media Line.

I love the way Charles Krauthammer summed up the portrayal of "mourning" terrorists as a "pornography of grief":

"The Israelis always end up the ones looking on the wrong side of this because the world media are on the Palestinian side. And the Gaza Palestinians, Hamas, [are] very adept at the pornography of grief. They are quite useful. They kill civilians on the other side, as terror groups do, but they also invite the killing of their own people as a way to win the propaganda war. That´s why they put the weaponry, their rockets and their ammunition under houses, under schools, under hospitals and under mosques. They know the Israelis have to attack the weapons."

                                                                  • 9 votes

Umm just one question Doug where do you get the idea that “the land” belongs to the Jews anyway? (notice you weren’t very specific about what land) after all if you are referring to the 1948 partition well that did not give Gaza, The West Bank or Jerusalem to Israel so that land doesn’t belong to them by that account, whereas if you are referring to biblical accounts I have to wonder if you have really thought through the ramifications of that claim, after all if your willing to accept a 4000 year old land settlement claim (in which the original owners gave up custodianship for well over 3000 years) then you should have no problem in accepting European ownership claims to the eastern seaboard of the United States (I would say Native Americans but since you guys did such a job of exterminating them they really can’t have a claim now can they) likewise you should have no problem with Mexico demanding the return of California, Arizona and Texas since they owned those states originally, or and lets not forget the return of large parts of Oregon to Canada.

Hmmm I’m guessing you didn’t think of that huh? Oh well again can you say how “the land” belongs to the Jews, because from what I see the only land that belongs to the Jews is the land that an individual Jew privately owns, whereas the state of Israel belongs to Israelis, of which not all are Jews.

                                                                  • 1 vote

I don't think the dragging through streets on motor cycles techinque was used then.

Actually Gaza was a mess after Ariel Sharon forced Jewish settlers out of Gaza in exchange for PEACE. ( I know Americans have short memories)

The Palestinians have every right to have some degree of self defense, to get THEIR land back, they just don't have the support from the zionist brainwashed US. The only way to get goods of any type was through a tunnel in the Sinai of Egypt, and it's hard to get much through on a daily basis to feed and support the whole of Gaza, let alone when they're getting bombed and people of all ages need medicine, which was shipped, but Israel has held it back since Thursday of last week. Yeah....the Israelis are a peaceful people. HA. And yes, they have schools, food has to be smuggled in, fuel for cooking and heating etc. since Israel has an embargo on them, makin' Gaza a prison. But Israel and the US, and some dumbasses on here, think thats all fair and good, and humane. pfft

Your rants have a measure of truth...we are bombing the ‘you know what’ out of Hamas! We have become weary of the 12,000+ rocket/mortar fire since leaving Gaza in 2005.

Their land Back? Their definition of Palestinian land includes ALL land in Israel and us dead!!

Besides the food grown their (or should be,) where do you think it is coming from? Shipments are slowed if not stopped... while they fire rockets/mortars. Where do you think the electricity comes from? Fuel for cooking and heating? Same same.

Tunnels (too numerous to count) are being used to smuggle weapons some of which when assembled weigh over 1 ton (the ones fired toward Tel Aviv and Jerusalem).. .many are being destroyed by defense forces.

How can you comment on their right to defend themselves when ALL the weapons fired from Gaza are directed toward civilian population?

Finally, from one dumb a$$ to another...please...please move to Gaza. They need your help.

The word palestine is a GEOGRAPHICAL reference iniatiated by the Romans. Their is no CULTURAL entity known as Palestine. what people refer to as palestinians is a polyglot of cultures, nations, and ethnic heriage. You might as well call the Montanans for all the culture they share with each other.

There is no such thing as a Palestinian." --- Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, 1969

                                                                            Fallacy:

"By virtue of our national and historic right...[we] do hereby proclaim the establishment of a Jewish state in the Land of Israel - the State of Israel." --- Israel's Declaration of Independence, 1948

                                                                            Fact:

Historically, Jews were not the first inhabitants of Palestine, nor did they rule there longer than a number of other peoples did. Modern archaeologists now generally agree (despite Israel's continuing program of "political archaeology" attempting to prove that Jews were there first) that Egyptians and Canaanites inhabited Palestine from the earliest recorded days of around 3,000 B.C. to around 1,700 B.C. [Bright, A History of Israel, 17-18. Also see Nakhleh, Encyclopedia of the Palestine Problem, 953-70]

There followed other occupiers such as Hyksos, Hittites, and Philistines. The Hebrew period of rule started only in 1,020 B.C. The Israelites were then overrun by Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks, Egyptians and Syrians until the Hebrew Maccabeans regained partial rule in 164 B.C. However, in 63 B.C. the Roman Empire conquered Jerusalem and in 70 A.D. destroyed the Second Temple and scattered the Jews into other lands.

In sum, ancient Jews controlled Palestine or some major parts of it for less than six hundred years in the five-thousand-year period of Palestine's recorded history -- less than Canaanites, Egyptians, Muslims, or Romans. [Epp, Whose Land is Palestine?, 39-40. Also see The New Oxford Annotated Bible, 1549-50; Beatty, Arab and Jew in the Land of Canaan, 85]

The US King-Crane Commission concluded in 1919 that a claim "based on an occupation of two thousand years ago can hardly be seriously considered."

On May 14, 1948, a total of 37 men attended the Tel Aviv meeting at which Israel's independence was declared as a "natural and historic right." Critics point out that their action had no binding legal force in international law because they did not represent the majority population at the time. In fact, only one of them had been born in Palestine; 35 were from European countries and one was from Yemen.

Palestinian scholar Issa Nakhleh observes: "The Jewish minority had no right to declare an independent state on territory belonging to the Palestinian Arab nation."

So... under the Nazis the Jews were stripped of their land in the name of a mythic German ancestral tie to the land. The Jews were then placed in walled off ghettos with all access to food, water, and resources shut off.

The answer to this was to strip Palestinians of their lands in the name of some mythic Jewish/Christian ancestral tie to the land. Those same Palestinians were then put into a walled-off ghetto with access to food, water, and resources shut off.

Of course, the Brits started stripping away Palestinian lands before anyone had ever even heard of a Nazi.

Until we can admit that a great injustice was incurred and the right of self-determination grossly violated, we're gonna have wars with the ol' infidel. Give them their land back and let the Jews have Montana.

There may be some Native Americans with deep roots in Montana who might object to your plans about the relocation of a displaced, overseas population into their home state. Were you thinking what....somewhere near "The Little Big Horn" perhaps ?........LOL

BTW, the Holocaust killed not only 6 million Jews, but also 5 million non-Jews, but most people seem to forget the latter.

Does that mean that every American who is not of American Indian descent should move? Of course not. There is no reason that Palestinians should move to make way for Zionist Jews either.

Most Americans who are not American Indians would not be willing to vacate their land to make way for the descendants of American Indians who lived there 500 years ago. Why should Palestinians have to move to make way for the possible descendants of Jews who live there 2000 years ago or more? They shouldn't.

It's the uncomfortable truth that, if it happened to us, we'd be doing exactly what the Palestinians are doing. They took the land from the jews 2000 years ago just like how we took indian land. The Jews coming back is the equivalent of the native americans coming back and kicking us out.

This fact is frequently exploited by their propagandists when they try to excuse a Palestinian act of horrific cruelty by posting, “it must have been Western injustice that drove him/her to such lengths.” In fact, acts of horrific cruelty are everyday occurrences in their society. We must understand that the values of the Palestinians are fundamentally different from those of civilized countries like Israel and the US. There are thousands of examples of this difference, but one, in particular, illustrates the contrast very well:

The Palestinians put a suicide bomb vest on a mentally handicapped Palestinian teenager, Hussam Abdo. Instead of simply shooting him at the border, the Israelis helped him disarm the vest and saved his life. The life that the Palestinians had just tried to destroy. I think that US or European soldiers would have been merciful, too.

It is far more important than posturing or politics to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the nations, like Israel, who share our core values.

                                                                                  • 18 votes

The Israelis also send in food and medical supplies to the strip but none of that is acknowledged. Unfortunately, I also agree with 3rdparty. It seems that the moral fabric of our country that made us and so many others strong has completely unraveled.

Oh - and the concept that a single attack 45 years ago on a military vessel, mistaken or deliberate, somehow balances the almost weekly suicide bombs that have the specific objective of shredding and maiming innocent people in market places is truly ludicrous!

I was thinking, what would they do if the rocket actually hit the dome of the rock? They'd probably somehow blame it on the Israelis and the biased people of the world would actually believe it that fairy tale regardless of the evidence.

So it is a religious obligation for Muslims to hate Jews. Their scripture, Koran, even tell that the rocks behind which Jews will hide, will call out and say "O Muslim, there is a Jew hiding behind me. Come and kill him." Even all trees will say the same, except Gopher tree which Koran says is the tree of Jews!

Remember, Muslims take Koran as the word of their god, Allah, and can never be changed. Therefore Muslims want to annihilate all Jews. From Ramses II till Hitler tried and failed. Muhammad and his hordes too will fail!

If people really want to get facts, they should read an English translation. Secondly, it was the Bush administration that demanded Palestine have democratic elections and we would continue to provide them economic assistance. Then, whoops, they elected members of Hamas. When will we ever learn to stay out of untenable situations and let them settle it themselves? This is not our fight.

We should bring their their actions to reality as to how happy Hamas would be if they could pull off a bus bombing here in America? Quite plainly Jews in Israel make easier targets, at least for the time being.. Hamas would happily kidnap or even rocket a school bus.. They've done it before and no doubt will continue to do it again. Israel will be left with no recourse but to go into Gaza itself. It will cost them many lives, as well as newly kidnapped soldiers. But another big difference as in years past, Israel will not ask for American boots on the ground, sea, or air. They know they have to fight their own battles. So sad a nation that would prefer to make their desert bloom, has to fight it's neighbor for right to even exist... So stupid their neighbors are educated never to accept Peace, with a nation that could help them all go forward to so many good opportunities for everyone.. God Bless America a country that offers opportunity for all!

Hmmm..How about this: Quran included correct scientific information on some incidents that are scientifically incorrect in the bible (e.g. sun was created after the creation of earth Genesis 1:9-19 and vegetation was created before the Sun-Genesis 1:11-13, 14-19).

gudsprn---Muhammed DID NOT write the Quran...He was illiterate. Some Quranic experts attribute the Qur'an in its current form to post-7th Century alterations. Independent scholars studying the Qur'an and Hadith, have concluded that the Islamic scripture was not revealed to just one man, but was a compilation of later redactions and editions formulated by a group of men, over the course of a few hundred years. The Qur'an which we read today is not that which was in existence in the mid-seventh century, but is a product of the eighth and ninth centuries. It was not conceived in Mecca or Medina, but in Baghdad. It was then and there that Islam took on its identity and became a religion. Consequently, the formative stage of Islam was not within the lifetime of Muhammad but evolved over a period of 300 years.
