After encountering a wave of protests in response to a decree from Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi that would have raised his edicts above judicial review, Morsi moved quickly to contain the damage. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.
CAIRO — Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi and top Egyptian judges on Monday moved to defuse a crisis in the country, with both sides backing down from a battle over Morsi’s sweeping self-appointed powers.
Coming out of emergency meetings in Cairo, Morsi issued a statement in which he agreed that only his decisions related to "sovereign" matters would be protected from judicial review, his spokesman said, indicating he had accepted a compromise proposed by the judiciary members.
On Thursday Morsi alarmed Egyptians and international observers when he decreed sweeping powers for himself that effectively would automatically make all of his rulings lawful and immune to judicial review.
The seeming power grab prompted tens of thousands of Egyptians to take to the streets to protest, some clashing with police, for the past four nights.
Morsi’s four-point statement issued Monday says that only "sovereign decisions" — for instance, those related to declaring war and dealing with existential threats — would fall under the decree. Even those powers would only apply until there is a new constitution and fresh parliamentary elections, expected in two months.
The statement went on to express respect for the "immunity and independence" of the judiciary. It also qualified his earlier call for a retrial of former regime officials — including dictator Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted in February 2011 after three decades in power. Such retrials would occur only if new evidence emerged, the statement said.
Morsi was propelled to power by the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group that had long struggled against the Mubarak regime.
The judges did not release their own statement but the presidential spokesman said that they had approved the compromise.
Shortly after a presidential spokesman read the statement on Egyptian TV, the Muslim Brotherhood — the parent organization of Morsi’s Freedom & Justice Party — issued its own statement, calling off its planned 'millionya' — or 'million man march' — "until further notice." Their rally, in support of Morsi, had been slated for Tuesday.

Mohamed Beltagui, a top Muslim Botherhood official, who appeared on the broadcast, explained that the organization was making the change to avoid any potential violence, and in hopes of opening up a 'channel of dialogue' with Morsi’s opponents.

President Mohammed Morsi, center, meeting with top Egyptian judges in Cairo on Monday in an effort to defuse a crisis over Morsi's self-proclaimed powers, announced on Thursday.
Both the Muslim Brotherhood and Morsi's opposition had called for mass demonstrations on Tuesday, raising fears that heightened emotions could lead to clashes in the streets.
Despite these developments, opposition leaders said they would continue their protest until Morsi completely rescinded his 'dictatorial' decree.
Meanwhile, the several hundred protesters camped in Cairo’s Tahrir Square — the site of the 2011 uprising — say they intend to continue their 'sit-in.'
Some declared that Morsi is irrelevant.
"It’s over," said one protester who runs a medical clinic for injured protesters off the square. "The second revolution has already begun."
Another said Morsi needs to tear up his decree and resign.

Why do I need to know what a bunch of psycho Muslim cockroaches are doing on a minute-by-minute basis?
Let them destroy themselves, which certainly will be an improvement to the peace and tranquility prospects of the civilized people of this planet, really . . .
Really! :-o
With your comments you not supporting the secular Egyptians and would support the Muslim Brotherhood actions.
The Muslim Brotherhood wants to grab on to power and seek revenge. They want to implant Sharia laws and discriminate against secular Muslims and religion minorities. There is more politics to that then these facts.
It is important that the world share these news because it will effect the world. Egypt in the old days, ladies wear skirts and were free to do whatever they want, now if radical female Muslims like Salafists and Muslim brotherhood see a female wearing a skirt, they would grab her and make fun of her. We don't want this garbage in Egypt, tourism enjoy Egyptian culture.
Didn't you read the latest statement about Salafists want to destroy the Phynix and the Pyramids? We don't want these radicals to rule the country, not want the old regime members who are corrupt to rule the country. This is a very hard battle.
An important note, why in the world Morsi who is the current president of Egypt could be a president? He studied and lived in American and he is a United States citizen, meaning he oath on the American Constitution to defend it. Now he also oath on the Egyptian constitution in order to become a president. He already oath his loyalty to the American Constitution hence he can't be an Egyptian president.
@Baldenario - Not sure why you're following this on a minute by minute basis. Just open the news every morning, there is always something about Militant Muslims killing, burning, or bombing something somewhere. That's what happens when you have what's called a "Militant Religion." The fact that anyone has to refer to a muslim as even a "moderate muslim" indicates this, just to what degree.
@Miyuk - I don't know what his education has to do with this. If I was wanting to learn politics, I think USA would be a good place to start.
Morsi was born in the Sharqia Governorate, in northern Egypt of modest provincial origin, in the village of El-Adwah, north of Cairo - from wiki
I'm not advocating or endorsing this guy's behavior, I'm just wondering what you're trying to get at here, pointing out his college education.
Not his education, he is an American Citizen, people who became U.S. citizen would need to pledge their oath to the American Constitution and when he did it, he would be asked if he will bear arm against the enemy of American and that he will abide by the U.S. Constitution. He basically becomes an American Citizen, not an Egyptian Citizen anymore.
Now he goes and pledge his oath to the Egyptian Constitutions in order to become a president, I can't believe no one posted about such important topic, Egypt constitution is very clear when it comes to who can be the president of Egypt. Morsi can't pledge his loyalty to both American and Egyptian constitution.
@Miyuk:
I did not find any information about Mohamed Morsi being a US citizen, but wikipedia states that two of his children were born in the US, hence are US citizens . . .
And I think that we probably agree about "secular Egyptians" being the sensible folks, although I have hesitations about Muslims if they are included in the "secular Egyptians" category . . .
Including Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Eskimos, Jews, Native American Indians, Sikhs, and so forth is fine with me, since they are not radical most of the time . . .
But I tend to discourage including Mormons and Scientologists, since they are cults . . .
And I suppose you could include the French, but one must wonder why, really . . .
Really! :-D
He is an Egyptian American, an American Citezen, the news needs to spread out. He would not live in an American and teach without either a green card or being a US citizen. That is a fact.
Isn't it just amazing that politcal parties can compromise in Egypt of all places but here in the U.S. the republican teabag taliban won't compromise on anything. The only thing the gop can agree on is to sign a pledge to the biggest lobbyist in DC grover norquist to continue to rip off middle class America. And yet they still don't get it even after the had their rear ends handed to them in the last election.
NOT TRUE- this statemernt was put out by Morsy people- go to http://www.egyptindependent.com and you see breaking news- judges there is no deal- Supreme Court will convene on December 5th,2012. In the meanwhile Pres.Morsy is trying to muscle MB/Nour people by another unconstitutional degree into Trade Unions.
This is the "democracy " that Obama help to create. Taking away the name of 'Terrorist" to the Islamic Brotherhood now they are showing their true colors. Morsy will make Egypt like Iran, were people has no freedom, and the Sharia Law rule. For how long are we going to give them millions of dollars, Morsi is lauging in Obama's , working with Iran and getting money from us.
Arab Spring?
Well this only fell apart in a few months. That's certainly longer than I gave it credit for.
oskar asked a very good qestion. Arab Spring? Everyone who was watching this unfold and had an ounce of common sense knew what was coming next. It was just a matter of when.
This being the case, Egypt get ready for Round 2. Now that you've seen a mistake, maybe you will learn and not repeat it. Not likely, but maybe.
@Miyuk - Didn't the Egyptian Citizens vote for him to be president?
Egypt didn't vote for Morsi, there was a lot of corruption and everyone wants to grab to power. Those good Egyptians who wanted to be president, didn't even have a fair chance because the news and the media covered only two kind of people, the old regime and Mubarak's supporters who wanted to become the new president or the Muslim brotherhood and the Salafists. In between were good Egyptians and they didn't get any media attention at all, hence people didn't know them.
Adding to this the corruption during the election, you have Ahmed Shafiek the previous prime minister of Mubarak vs Morsi. There isn't much of a choice here.
We, (Americans) created the Mideastern spring, so now we are going to have to live with it, or at least who ends up leading the different country's there. Now, the question of the money. We can try and extend our influence (none) and demand the leaders there move to our beat (not going to happen)because we are giving money to them or we can pull our money and let the Chinese or the Russians or both, replace ours with theirs. The real difference is that the Chinese and the Russians take no crap from the brotherhood or Iran, sure they deal with then but with the understanding that both the bear and the dragon have teeth and are unafraid to use them, un-like the U.S. who kick up a lot of dust and kill anyone stupid enough to stand in one place for too long. Both the Chinese and Russians target the leaders and their family's. Unsavorybut effective. Our influence in the region has peaked now we should remove our selves from the Mideast, stand our ground along with Israel and let the rest of the world deal with it.
While I am somewhat happy with Morsi's ability to broker a short term cease fire, I am uncomfortable with him as a peace broker given the fact he is a Muslim Brotherhood guy. I think Al Shatar and the rest of the Brotherhood is pulling his strings. Qtub and al Bana were crafty politicians.
How much did Morsi and the Oil Rich Countries "Pay Off" the Judges. Bribes.
They're all Corrupt----there will be no Peace in Egypt, because deep down the Egyptians known Morsi pulled a fast one on them, by Grabbing Full Power---life will again be living like Ancient times for women, and all people. It's a "Dead End" for everyone who lives there.
Morsi is a Dictator, who is directly connected to HAMAS, who are directly connected to the Iranian Regime.
Now how could there be Peace; he being the Negotiator between Israel, and the other ME Countries?
Ok, I take issue with people lumping all people who are Muslim to be "psycho Muslim cockroaches". Christians have killed more people in the name of God than any any other religious group in the world. Have you not heard of the Crusades? You will find zealots in any religion but to lump them all together is not only pure idiocy but shows a complete lack of decency. I know a man who lives near Cairo and he's Muslim, but unlike your ideas about them, he and his wife are two of the most compassionate and friendly people I have ever known. He's a fairly successful businessman and he appalled at what has happened in the name of religion. He lived in TN for awhile but he moved back because he loves Egypt and the history that surrounds it. He doesn't like what Mosi is doing (we talked earlier today) and the unrest it's causing in the entire region.
You talk about Muslims and their religious intolerance but it sounds like you're the one with religious intolerance. The only reason Christianity has the largest following is because they had the largest armies and were able to kill anyone who didn't convert. So if you want to call any religion psycho cockroaches we need only to look into the mirror. I consider myself a Christian but I shudder to think about the atrocities we committed "in the name of God"
TCLucas - So, you say "Christians have killed more people in the name of God than any other religion". I'm unclear how you calculate this supposed fact.
I'd don't dispute that Christianity has blood its history too, but more than Islam, or any other religion?
How can you possibly claim that as a fact. The Crusades were inescapably bloody. But so too were Muslim invasions of Spain, of the Balkans and India, as were the raids by Islamic forces in Italy, southern France during the middle ages.
All religions have, at times, been used as a banner under which to spread murder and destruction. But at other times these same religions have stood for charity, giving and tolerance.
This guy Morsi? I frankly don't know what to make of him. Is he a rationally religious person, somebody intent on working out reasonable solutions with Israel and with the West, or is he another radical, intent of some hidden agenda of violence?
Don't know.
It is hopeful that the Egyptian demonstrations were enough to force his compromise with the Egyptian judiciary. It at least shows that his grip on power is uncertain, or perhaps that he is actually guided by some principals of democratic government.
dman - The Crusades lasted from 1095 - 1204 (roughly) and estimates range from 500,000 - 5 or 6 MILLION. My big point of that post was to show Baldenario that he really can't call a religion psych cockroaches without looking into the mirror first. As long as there has been a "God" there has been killing in his/her name.
From what I've heard about Morsi from my friend who lives there. Morsi will say whatever he needs to to make it seem he's willing to compromise but he's not sure it will come to fruition. I hope it will happen
First the people elect a terrorist in a three piece suit and now the power structure is compromising with that same terrorist.................
They don't know it yet but the Egyptian people are screwed.... Egyptians, welcome to the wonderful world of religious fascism and you only have yourselves to blame for the evil coming your way.
Obama lovers you have a preview of the next four years with your re-elected Muslim enjoy fools
OMGness sounds just like our Country...The leftist lame stream media did the exact same thing in our USA,only covered one runningmate favorably and degraded lied and BESMERCHED the other, anyone who dared speak a different Idea than the socialist/dictatorship of OBama was torn apart, even Hollywood..if they dare vote other than The great O,They were violated publicly over and over by leftys who are oh so understanding/enlightined/ of others ideas and rights as Americans...Realy..? Only if your hispanic, black, gay,or a woman who doesnt want to pay to get Birth Control/abortion or a Terroist or any religion other than christian or here Illegaly, the rest of us dont matter to them,And anybody in those catagorys that would dare have belifs other than the Pop King are fair game too,And they wonder why we don't trust their motives, their actions speak VOLUMES! And guess who helped Morsi get into his Cushy Dictatorship...Obama. I wonder how much corrupt BS we would find out about, how the two of our elect helped eachother get their jobs ?As if anyone would investigate Lol. At least the Egyptions have the balls to confront their Gov,If we even question our Dictator were called names attacked, threatened, our addresses are givin out for the cowards to attack our homes familys bussinesses ect,I wish Egypt the best, and If Egypt ever gets the chance to vote again I Pray they won't fall for the same guy twice like the Blind ,lazy and corrupt ,thugs that set the whole thing up in our Country,IPray for us all,It's not gonna end well I bet.
"Morsi issued a statement in which he agreed that only his decisions related to "sovereign" matters would be protected from judicial review, his spokesman said, indicating he had accepted a compromise proposed by the judiciary members."
Morsi and his MB are bad news for sane Egyptians, females, minorities and Israel.
Don't trust a word of this seventh century desert Sunni Islamic beast and his MB says.
Just attack all of them and drive them away from Egypt.
Just like not all Republicans are bigots, not all members of the Muslim Brotherhood are terrorists. Morsi spent a lot of time living in the US. I think he understands that groups can hate each other without automatically killing each other. Morsi spent a long time in opposition to Mubarak. But the only real organized opposition group was the Muslim Brotherhood. It makes sense that he would have an association with them if he ever hoped to see Mubarak gone. The political agenda of the MB was primarily about ousting puppet dictators. No doubt they have an extreme wing who have used religion to try to gain endorsement of the population. I don't see Morsi as being very aligned with the far right of his party. He does not appear intent on establishing Sharia law or killing all infidels.
In reality, most of his actions to date have been more about moderating the MB away from its extreme right wing. I'm not so sure that his "power grab" here wasn't maybe about ensuring an even handed process in creating their new constitution. He may have even anticipated some opposition to his move with the intentions of backing off. In some ways what he has done is actually got the MB to back down somewhat too. Keep in mind that if the MB takes a very high handed position, you are almost guaranteeing a civil war in Egypt. What Morsi has demonstrated twice in the course of a couple weeks is that compromise instead of violence makes a lot of sense. Think about it, I suspect that many in the MB would have liked to see Egypt's military join with Hamas in a war against Israel. But instead Morsi brokered a peace, temporary though it may be, between Hamas and Israel. His latest compromise here indicates a desire to avoid violence. In reality this makes the voice of the secular, liberal Egyptians even more meaningful.
He hasn't exactly embraced the US but he definitely understands the value of a working relationship with us. He most definitely hasn't taken an Iranian tone. I think for the most part Morsi is trying to be a moderating force and he has Egypt's best interests in mind rather than working toward global jihad. I don't think we have seen enough of anything from this guy to be very critical of him. How it works out in the long run is yet to be understood, but so far I think the guy has been pretty even handed.
allenjames... and what does the reelection of Obama in this, a nation with an established constitution, have to do with events in Egypt?
Oh wait, I know. Barack Obama has a Islamic name, which is enough to seed your paranoia.
BTW: He might not have won this month if the Republicans had not served up such a cardboard candidate as Romney. What does GOP stand for these days, Goofy Old Politicians?
Evidently Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood made the judges an offer they couldn't refuse.
I would feel SO much better if Egyptians can get Morsi out and a Secular President in. The Muslim Brotherhood is getting too militant and have strong ties with Iran, and now the mess of Terrorist Gaza through Egypt and then Lebanon and SYRIA. All working together they can cause Israel Much harm and then we get pulled in because we Won't let Israel be destroyed. Then there are all the Coptic Christians being killed and a real threat of Sharia. I think this has a very significant influence on us and I support an overthrow of Morsi with all my heart. I might even send more Pizzas if this goes on.
Just like Obama did with the health care ruling
Egyptians sacrificed a lot to remove Mubarak.
Nobody expected that Morsi and MB will usurp power.
Morsi and his MB will be worse than Mubarak.
Their Sunni Saudi Islamic extremism will only give bloodshed and hatred to Egyptians.
Agitate, beat up MB brother members and leaders all over Egypt and drive them out once for all.
No one should agree for talks, truces and pacts as these Sunni Islamic Saudi beasts will never keep them.
US needs to stop right away all economic aid to Egypt. Morsi and his MB can never ever be trusted.
It's the men of Egypt who are shaping the direction of Egypt.....But it will be the Women who will pay the largest price. The MB treat their dogs better than Women, these people will make the "war on women" real!! Not made up just win the women vote.........After the MB feels they can oust the Military,Morsi will reclaim total power.
Obama benefited from the courts ruling on his health care reform. Morsi blinked first in his stand off with the Egyptian judiciary.
Where's the parallel, AllenJames?
The Muslim Brotherhood wants to grab on to power and seek revenge. They want to implant Sharia laws and discriminate against secular Muslims and religion minorities. There is more politics to that then these facts.
It is important that the world share these news because it will affect the world. Now he also oath on the Egyptian constitution in order to become a president. He already oath his loyalty to the American Constitution hence he can't be an Egyptian president.
No an both points, Morsi is not a U.S. citizen and even if he was he was not born here hence not eligible to be president, ya gota learn our laws if your gona quote policy.
That is non sense. What are you trying to cover here? Are you a Muslim brotherhood or a Salafist supporter?
Morsi won't be able to study and teach in American without either a Green Card or becoming a U.S. citizen.
From wiki:
He then earned his Ph.D. in materials science from the University of Southern California in the U.S. in 1982. He entitled his dissertation "High-Temperature Electrical Conductivity and Defect Structure of Donor-Doped Al2O3."[10][11] He was an Assistant Professor at California State University, Northridge, from 1982 to 1985.
Morsi became a U.S Citizen and pledged his oath to American Constitution, yet he pledged his oath later to Egyptian Constitution in order to be sworn into office i.e., become the Egyptian President.
In fairness, Miyuk, earning a degree and teaching in an American university does not necessarily mean he is an American citizen. You'd have to back that claim up with a different source.
Morsi and his MB are clear danger signals for Israel, US and allies.
Israel ought to clear Gaza of Hamas. If carpet bombings of Gaza is required so be it!
Egyptians should not permit Morsi and his MB, Salafis to control Egypt. They will bring only hatred, killings, and massive ruins all over.
Followers of Islamic cult, especially Sunni Saudi inspired Islamic radicals and militants (al-Qaida, Salaffi, Wahhabi, MB, Taliban and other label ones), are fast marching backwards to their seventh century desert tribal days.
They are indulging in rapings, lootings, killings and genocides of non-Muslims (Darfur, S. Sudan, Nigeria and spreading like wild fire in many regions and Muslims (Libya, Yemen, Mali, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and other places).
In Egypt, Sunni Saudi backed Salaffi and MB are opening up new chapters of Islamic bigotry. Morsi is just a front for them. Just watch the fate of Christians, women and Israel as the time goes by.
Even in Syria, if Assad is overthrown by Sunni Islamic religious Nazis like al-Qaida, MB, the conditions of Christians will be unbearable just like Iraq.
Pakis and Sunni Saudis and co are responsible for 80 percent of world problems including economic ones. Examine the devastations with Iraqi wars and now sanctions on Iranian oil and the resultant oil price manipulations.
They are making the lives of their own people also miserable by their Islamic religious madness to the intolerable levels.
Egypt loves Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood! The definition of a great leader. The world needs more like him!
hhahahaa, You're an idiot or just a "moderate" muslim.
Funny how it's all in perspective, perhaps you're an idiot and a moderate muslim...I wouldn't rule it out.
No he is either a Muslim brotherhood or Salafist.
Mo
I guess, Hitler was a great leader too, but he kill millions of people and Fidel Castro was a great leader too, beside to kill thousand of people , he is starving and putting in isolation his own country. Is that a definition of a great leader.
Morsi in Egypt would be like Iran. He's going to have a bad effect on everyone and Egypt will be the next openair Prison. I support his resignation or impeachment.
Just wait and see how furious Allah is on what House of Saud and their puppets are doing all over.
House of Saud, a strict Wahhabi, is not even tolerating Prophet Mohammad’s heritage places. House of Saud consists of a megalomaniac, despotic and bigoted ruler and highly corrupt, despotic, bigoted seventh century mindset 5000 princes and princesses.
In Mecca, the house of one of the wives of Mohammed was demolished and converted into public lavatories. Mohammed’s birth place may vanish with plans to have skyscrapers, mega shopping malls and a Grand mosque!
In Medina, ten years ago a mosque of grandson of Mohammed was dynamited and the religious police were celebrating on this. There are plans to pull down three seventh century mosques in future.
Allah has rightly predicted end of Islam in this century itself.
wait till the mb takes over the u.s. that's exactly what the current dictator running our country wants. can't wait till march to see how the countries in the u.n. vote on global gun control. this administration has taken our constitution apart. soon we will not have any rights at all. we'll be just like the poor peons in other supressed countries. when this happens, and we "will"be taken over by mb etc, someone will come up to you and say: i want you to s--t in the street, if you can't do it they'll just blow you're head off. we are headed for the edge of the fiscal cliff. so much for promises from this administration not to overtax the middle income earners. what a bunch of liars. now they will levy heavy taxes on the higher income people. when this goes down they won't be able to be job creators any more. how many businesses have either downsized or closed their doors completely? more people out of work, more people on the dole, but that's exactly what mr dictator wants so he can "rule" our country. it's to bad it took the people of the u.s. so long to realize what's actually going on behind the scenes, now it's too late to save our heritage and country.
It's the Muslim Brotherhood, of course they are going to oppress the civilian populace. This hasn't solved anything.
the Muslim brotherhood arent much different than the extremists...they are a religion of submission (hence the sword) All us Christians were hoping they wouldn't take Egypt ( Obummer gave them BILLIONS b4 the election of our tax payer $$ ...circumvented congress to do it)
We also were praying Obama wouldn't be reelected...the Mexicans and welfare recips took care of that
I guess god wanted obama elected since he ignored your prayers. lol.
So you don't see the differences between brokering a peace deal with Israel, passing women and religious equality laws, talking and reaching agreements with political opponents versus firing rockets into and bombing Israel, passing laws that strip women of the right to be independent, killing people for belonging to a different religion, and suicide bombing and assassinating political opponents?
Don't get me started on Christians... let's just move to the welfare statistics.
Republican states receive on average $1.46 in federal spending for every tax dollar paid back to the federal government while the democratic state average is $1.16. The top 10 states that claim the most welfare from the federal government are Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, West Virginia, Louisiana, Montana, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, and North Carolina, all of which are traditionally Republican states and all of which voted for Romney last election. Did you know 31.2% of welfare recipients are Caucasian while only 28.8% are Hispanic? "Hispanic" takes into account all Spanish speaking backgrounds, not just Mexicans. Stop listening to Rush Limbaugh and performers of his nature if you want the real facts instead of buying into the trite and untrue rhetoric being used to control the extreme-right movement.
There is no negotiating the extra-legal authority of the Chief Executive. He has no extra-legal authority, period. Something our own government, founded on the balance of powers, needs to keep in mind.
I don't speak Egyptian, but what does "sovereign" mean? It looks slippery--easily morphing into The New Pharaoh". Amenhotep rules, dude!
It doesn't mean anything...to a muslim.
sounds like Obama's plan
no doubt to you it does. yawn.
Yes, Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood have the Judges' backs.
What really happened: The US leaned on Egypt's military (primarily) to fight Morsi's declaration, causing Morsi to backpedal. Morsi is claiming he is compromising with the "judicial branches" because that is more palatable than giving in to popular demand or non-Muslim influences.
I doubt the military even needed the US to "lean on" them. They want to retain power as much as we want them to, since they know who keeps them in nice shiny weapons and perks. They want to keep morsi as marginalized as possible, for their own interests.
v-guy, did you miss the articles a few months back describing how Morsi sacked the leading generals and replaced them with hand-picked loyalists?
By the way: who determines what is "sovereign"--the courts? Or is it the "sovereign"?
To your question, I think "The Golden Rule" applies, "He who has the gold, makes the rules." And in this case, I don't think it's the courts and judges.
So much for Egyptian democracy! Morsi = Mubarak warmed over!!!
Sounds Like A Musli-moronic Masturb-Nation Plan !
Well, whatever it is, we'll be subsidizing it. And the worse it gets the more money we'll pour down the hole.
the problem with muslims is they are all liars and they all want to be a dictator. you depose one tyrant just to have another worse than the first take over. it is a never ending story. just wait and see how long it takes americas muslim leader obama to try his take over of our government. he has already started by using presidential decree to by pass congress. that is the first step to dictatorship.
are you drinking, or is the tin foil on your head slipping? lol.
We really don't want to turn this debate from radical Muslims to all Muslims because that is untrue and disgusting and getting old.
Egyptian Muslim secular and all minorities are different from radical Muslims and corrupted ones. Check youtube on the 1970 and 1980's Egyptian movies and culture and look how Egyptians were so bright and smart and very secular and endorse all cultures french, American and more. We don't want these radical Muslims
youtu.be/DxKn6gBL-e8
Try going to Turkey, bud, where Islam is still the prominent religion and they have a pretty secular society. Good folks. I think you're confusing the more "pious" theocratic Muslims with the rest of the Arab world. There's a difference.
Thankyou for telling us about Secular Muslims. I had never heard of it, yet I read that over half American Muslims are. Kind of like lapsed Catholic. They don't pray 5 times a day, often marry people of other religions and just don't let a Religious Ritual run every thought, every move, every food, etc. They can leave the Superstition behind, like most of us do. GOOD to know!!
Almost seems like Egypt wanted a cease fire with Israel and Palestine so they can have the attention.
The whole Arab Spring was praised by Obama..... The Muslim Brotherhood is what Obama stands for... Think not? I'm enjoying the whole scenario. After Obama is gone, the Us Military will have to undo all his insanity... That means millions of drones..
just as bush praised arab democracy before obama. What would you expect the president of the US to say to attempts to bring democracy and replace military dictatorships?
as far as obama "standing for" the MB well that's just stupid.
What exactly did obama cause to happen, and how is the US military going to "undo it"?
Yendor, aside from being retarded, you're also full of sh!t.
vermontguy, I admire you for trying to reason with this clown, but it's clear he's not here to reason. You can be the good cop, and I'll kick the crap out of him just for the fun of it.
Hey -G and VMguy,
Your arrogance and ignorance of the world and how it works is exactly what got us here and what's going to make it worse if you don't wake up,Egypt is going thru now what we are, they have a Dictator in office, and apparently the smart folks want them out for obvious reasons,If you guys want to live like that mabe you could goto Egypt and all those wanting freedom and Democracy can come here with the sane people :) And Obama is quite tight with the MB,he had them in charge to make sure the Good guys got the weapons Obama sent ,HaHa ...that's why Stevens was in Benghazi, to be the hand off to the MB,they have also been to the WH as well as people thought to be terrorist. And surly you wouldn't be a bully by threatening violence on someone who doesn't agree with you...I thought you guys didn't like violence and were open minded and enlightened....Im shocked! NOT
Ster2 = Ignorant fool who can't use a spell checker and sees conspiracy everywhere. Grow up, go back and get that GED and for gosh's sake, stop watching faux news!
One Voice= Moron
What's wrong ?You jerks can only attack the spelling of anyone who disagree with your Dictator and Chief,I actually do not have TV,because of all the lies and propaganda of the left,it's all over Hollyweird and every news channel,Obama and his buddy's get to decide what you morons are fed everyday,so open up your eyes, nothing I said is conspiracy, and obviously upset you enough for you to assume you know dick about me,I'd rather be lacking any education, then to have been indoctrinated as you and your lefty buddies :)
We can only hope that the leadership that will emerge will leave religion on the bonfire of history and stay well back from the flames!
I hope the Egyptian military crushes the MB. And to the tinfoil wearing GOP mongers, get an education, your stupidity is showing. As for Mursi's decree, the people will not follow him, the MB will be isolated and the only response they could have is martial law to quell any uprising. They cant call on the military so they will have to use the police or state security forces like the Iranians did. Its not going to end well if they cant oust the MB.
It will take time to knock off Egypt's judiciary, hence the "compromise". Regardless, we will continue to send billions to them as long as Morsi continues to play nice with Israel. He knows this because he watched Mubarak do the same thing for decades.
Really, you think he will keep play nice for long, sorry to disappoint you but try and google this president quotes about Israel.
"The Palestinians are resisting the Israelis, and they have a right to resist, and we are helping this resistance as much as we can, politically, morally and using medical supplies."
"History has proven that the Israeli entity has never respected regulations were it has always believed that it is above the law. The only language they understand is force hence what is taken by force must be restored by force."
(IkwanWeb, March 2010)
"[Coptic Christians] need to know that conquest in coming, and Egypt will be Islamic, and thay they must pay the jizya or emigrate."
(El Bashayer, May 2012)
there are more but this just to give a small taste of what he think
What he says to his base and what he says and does on the world stage are two different things. Kind of like our own politicians. The Pakistani's hate our guts and say so and act on it over and over again, yet we still send them billions. Morsi will do the same, just like Mubarak, and as long as we have a cease fire agreement or some other inane act to point to as proof of him being our ally, we'll keep sending him cash.
That's not true have you ever asked yourself how did Hamas got all of these rockets just suddenly. They throw rockets like it is a rain on Israel, four time more than the amount that they used before. They use to get the rockets through the tunnels but now they don't have to as long as Morsi is supplying it.
And the Pak's probably harbored OBL, allow the Taliban free reign inside Pakistan under the protection of the ISI. Our Afghan allies kill our own soldiers, and everyone gets money and weapons from Iran. Our money still flows to those countries even though there's a real hatred towards us. We pay Pakistan to maintain some semblance of control over their nukes, just like we pay Egypt to mostly maintain the peace treaty with Israel. Creating this facade is cheaper than going to war, so it's the crappy game we're forced to play. I'd love it if we could tell all of them to go to Hell, but that just isn't realistic unfortunately.
What did the voters in Egypt thought they were voting for. They elected this guy a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. They should have seen this one coming. I mean just read the name that should scare the hell out of people. The next thing is to open that border to Gaza and start shipping more arms in there to battle Israel. These people just love to fight and die.
They are just about as bad as the voters in the United States by re-electing Obama for another 4 years. This whole world is going nuts and the people just seem not to care at all.
they bought the vote with grocery, not to be funny, but people who voted for him were giving bags of rice, bottle oil, bag of sugar
JOHNNG====Sounds like Egypt has come full circle with Pharaoh's Granaries once again.
Amen Smokey
Through all of this no one addresses the fact that once a crook always a crook, look at the congress in the US, complete power corrupts people completely. This Morsi person is only pissed enough to compromise because he got caught, and given the chance again he will assume power as a DICK-tator, he already proved he wants to do it.
The new are coming from some my Egyptian friends that police are throwing chemical at the demonstrators and firing tear gas.
They are stating that the chemical is causing skin burn
I hear some news from my Egyptian friends that the police are throwing chemical compounds at the demonstrators that is causing skin burn at the same times they are using tear gas.
after a full research to answer some of you guys questions yes this president is an American Citizen.
Way to go Johnng, this fact needs to be revealed and brought to the Highest Court Council of Egypt.
Morsi is an American Citizen and can't pledged his oath to the Egyptian Constitution because he already pledge his oath to the American Constitution. He should be impeached and removed from office on these grounds.
Morsi is not a U.S. citizen. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Southern California in 1982, after which he taught at California State University Northridge. He returned to Egypt in 1985 to become head of the engineering department at Zagazig University, a position he held until 2010. Two of his five children are U.S.-born and therefore are entitled to U.S. citizenship.
(David N.'s wife here.) Isn't all forms of leadership about power? In this case however an very old adage comes to mind which is .... 'be careful what you wish for'. Egypt wanted a new leader and they got it!
