The world is watching Syria very closely, worried that a desperate Bashir al-Assad might use his chemical weapons against his own people or his neighbors. The U.S. and other nations have warned Assad against launching a chemical attack, but they consider a preemptive strike against Assad's weapons to be high-risk. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said Thursday that intelligence about Syrian chemical weapons "raises serious concerns" that the regime of Bashar Assad may use them against the country's own citizens.
"The whole world is watching, the whole world is watching very closely," Panetta said. "And the president of the United States has made it very clear, there will be consequences — there will be consequences if the Assad regime makes the terrible mistake by using these chemical weapons on their own people."
His comments came a day after U.S. officials told NBC News that the Syrian military had loaded the precursor chemicals for sarin, a deadly nerve gas, into aerial bombs that could be dropped from dozens of fighter-bombers. The defense chief, who was speaking at a news conference at the Department of Veterans Affairs, would not elaborate on what the potential consequences would be.
A member of the regime in Damascus, however, dismissed the assertions Thursday, saying he feared the United States and other Western powers could be trying to find a "pretext for intervention" in Syria's civil war, Reuters reported.
Sarin is an extraordinarily lethal agent. Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's forces killed 5,000 Kurds with a single sarin attack on Halabja in 1988.
Assad's deputy foreign minister Faisal Maqdad said Thursday that they would never kill Syrians with chemical weapons, dismissing the Western intelligence reports as "theater."
"Syria stresses again, for the tenth, the hundredth time, that if we had such weapons, they would not be used against its people. We would not commit suicide," Maqdad said, according a Reuters report that cited his comments on Lebanon's Al Manar television, the voice of the pro-Assad Hezbollah movement.
"In fact, we fear a conspiracy ... by the United States and some European states, which might have supplied such weapons to terrorist organizations in Syria, in order to claim later that Syria is the one that used these weapons," he added.
"We fear there is a conspiracy to provide a pretext for any subsequent interventions in Syria by these countries that are increasing pressure on Syria," he said.

Panetta echos Obama 'red line' warning
"The intelligence we have raises serious concerns" that Damascus was considering using chemical weapons, Panetta said Thursday.
"Without commenting on the specific intelligence ... we remain very concerned, very concerned that as the opposition advances, in particular on Damascus, that the regime might very well consider the use of chemical weapons."
A group of United States senators, including John McCain, discuss reports that the Syrian government has begun to prepare chemical weapons.
Obama and other NATO leaders have warned that using chemical weapons would cross a red line and have consequences, which they have not specified.
Four U.S. Senators on Thursday urged President Obama to send a strong message to Assad.
"We urge the President of the United States to make whatever military preparations are necessary to show Assad that the United States is fully willing and able to impose the consequences that he has spoken of in the event these weapons are used," said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz), speaking first. "For deterrence to work it must be based on a credible threat."
He appeared with Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.), Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.).
"We are all saying to President Obama, who has stated that there will be drastic consequences for Assad and his government if they use chemical and biological weapons, we’re with you," said Lieberman. "There’s strong support across Congress if the president takes the strong action that’s necessary to prevent a very, very — historically horrific — humanitarian disaster in Syria.
There are limited options for military intervention by the United States in Syria. It has one of the most robust air defense systems in the world — supplied by key ally Russia — but one option could be sending cruise missiles to attack regime targets.
Pentagon sources tell NBC News that the Syrian military is awaiting final orders to launch chemical weapons against its own people after precursor chemicals for deadly sarin gas were loaded into aerial bombs. NBC's Jim Miklaszewski reports.
Germany's cabinet approved stationing Patriot anti-missile batteries on Turkey's border with Syria, a step requiring deployment of NATO troops that Syria fears could permit the imposition of a no-fly zone over its territory.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met in Dublin on Thursday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and international Syria mediator Lakhdar Brahimi to try to restart a U.N. peace process for Syria. Prior to the meeting, she said she expected to raise the chemical weapons threat.

Clinton has said that in addition to the possible use of chemical bombs by "an increasingly desperate" Assad, Washington was concerned about the government losing control of such weapons to extreme Islamist armed groups among the rebel forces.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton echoed President Obama's recent vow to take action if Syrian President Bashar Assad uses chemical weapons during the ongoing clashes within his country. U.S. officials are also concerned about the rising influence of extremist groups within Syria. NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.
U.S. officials said Washington was considering blacklisting Jabhat al-Nusra, an influential rebel group accused by other rebels of indiscriminate tactics that has advocated an Islamic state in Syria and is suspected to have ties to al-Qaida.
In other developments reported by Reuters:
- Syrian state TV said a\n explosion in front of the Damascus headquarters of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent killed at least one person on Thursday.
- Activists said the army pummeled several eastern suburbs of Damascus, where the rebels are dominant, with artillery and mortar fire. The suburbs have been cut off from the city's water and electricity for weeks, rebels say, accusing the government of collective punishment.
- Rebels say they have surrounded an air base two-and-a-half miles from the center of Damascus, a fresh sign the battle is closing in on the Syrian capital.
- Rebels said they were battling soldiers on the road to Damascus International Airport, 12 miles out of the capital, where several airlines have canceled flights due to security concerns.
Maqdad, in his interview on Thursday, argued that reports of such advances were untrue. "What is sad is that foreign countries believe these repeated rumors," he said. Rebel and state claims about the military situation cannot be verified independently. But residents inside the capital say the sound of shelling on the outskirts has become a constant backdrop.

It's just Spontaneous......Genocide...
Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm "Syria fears US seeking a 'pretext' to intervene in civil war"
Whats new pussycat? ... Isn't "deceit" the "new American way?"
"Truth" is just a word .... whose meaning is lost .....
Much like your post moonbeamracer. Citing no sources, just suspicions. Even if you are right, it is clear you have no interest in the truth yourself. Though it looks like you are trying to insinuate you do.
Am I the only one smelling a false flag?
"It has one of the most robust air defense systems in the world — supplied by key ally Russia"
Like that did Iraq any good.
I don't think we would do much if they did use the sarin, but let them think we would if it will stop them from using it.
I love it. MWD. Next time someone says something about Bush and MWD they'll also have to mention Obomber. I've said it all along. All politicians are the same. No matter what coat they wear it's a skunk underneath. They all stink the same.
Maybe This admistration is following in the footsteps of the prior admistration wanting to put more of our men and women in the Military in harms way. See people who voted the president in now, wants more money spent in a place we should not be Just like most wars our young people fight in,, to help the rich... Democrats have sent us to war the same as the GOP.. Think about this when you vote next time!!!!!
Syria fears Us seeking pretext to intervene in civil war
Of course we are that's what America does best.
pullmyfinger,
"Next time someone says something about Bush and MWD they'll also have to mention Obomber."
I think you mean WMD. That's "Weapons of Mass Destruction"; not "Mass Weapons Destruction" as your acronym suggests.
O.k. so this administration is clearly saying that Syria does have WMD and they have loaded those chemicals and are waiting the go-ahead to use them. So this is clear, yes? So let's say that the US in a pre-emptive strike later find out there never were any weapons and they were never loaded to be used. Then what? So do they admit they were wrong, and thus should never have invaded Syria? Do they wait until the weapons are used and then do what? Does it matter how many die in this civil war? So do we feel better if they drop bombs on these people, or butcher them, or shoot them at point blank instead of using WMD?
Will the Syrian people ever forgive the US for not coming to their aid as they did for the Libyans? I don't think so. So it will not matter who takes over if Assad is removed, because the US did not intervene as they did for others. That is the issue.
"In fact, we fear a conspiracy ... by the United States and some European states, which might have supplied such weapons to terrorist organizations in Syria, in order to claim later that Syria is the one that used these weapons," he added, speaking on Lebanon's Al Manar television, the voice of Hezbollah.
No sweetie....Obama supplied weapons to Libya!

U.S.-Approved Arms for Libya Rebels Fell Into Jihadis’ Hands
Which is why Ambassador Stevens is DEAD!! He was on a recovery mission! Notice FOX did not run this story......and neither did NBC!!!
Well, if you are worried about that then I guess it would be smart to destroy what stockpiles of Sarin you have right away since you won't need them to use on your own people and you certainly wouldn't want them falling into the wrong hands.
Nothing new here. Just same old bsing. Of course Syria's government wants to kill the rebels! That's what they do! They kill anyone who protests against them. So why are we surprised that they are resorting to more extreme means as they become more desperate to hold on to their power struggle over their people? And why should we surprised the USA threatened to "intervene" in yet another foreign country? That's what we do best. Syria is done either way. If they don't resort to extreme measures like this, the rebels will eventually finish them off. And if the rebels don't finish them off because of Syria's new chemical toys, the good 'ole US of A certainly will. Maybe NATO or the UN will join in the party as well.
So the question is, what would this oppressive Syrian regime do with two bad choices? Do they choose to try and outlast the rebels (which the way they riled the rebels up by treating them so poorly including multiple occasions of mass slaughter means that won't happen as they have already reached the breaking point and boiled over) to try any means of avoiding direct confrontation by the USA and possibly several European allies? Or do they figure they are screwed anyways (which they are) and try to use the chemical weapons out of pure spite and hatred in a show of actions more like the things these disgusting scum tend to do on a regular basis? We must approach this very carefully.
There was a note found in the stock of chemical weapons. It said "Sallams my friend. Please hang onto these for me until the infidels leave. Your pal, Saddam"
Wasn't this propaganda "news" yesterday? Oh yeah, this is the echo chamber mass media. Good work.
"There are limited options for military intervention by the United States in Syria. It has one of the most robust air defense systems in the world — supplied by key ally Russia" Not ture Syria does not have the technology to even target our new fighters. On top of that we have technology to render all systems useless.
If Assad plans on using or, god forbid, actually uses chemical weapons on his own people, then may I suggest that the other countries in that region actually get off their asses to stop it? Why does it always have to be the U.S.?
Damascus and all of its men of war will soon be gone.
Jer 49: 23-27
if you do read this Arpad is the area know today as Aleppo!
OMG! OMG! Syria has WMD's!!! Obama's turn to clean them out! Let's see how the left complains about this one, or will they will even acknowlege the threat....
Gee it's not like our reputation couldn't possibly get any worse with thi-Oh wait...
here's the deal- it's real simple. Put all rhetoric aside- if Syria uses a chemical weapon (on their own people or others) and it's proven (proven- unlike Bush's cronies with Iraq) then we blow the Assad regime to meet their maker. There will be collateral damage - nothing you can do about it but the world will be on notice that we're not going to stand for chemical weapons and we'll have one less db to think about...(that is until the next one surfaces)...
And if Egypt, Iran, etc have a problem with it you tell them to go fly a kite.
Yes Damascus will be a ruined heap but in Bible prophecy the US is nowhere to be seen so its destruction already occurs before the final battle of Armageddon! The only nations that can do that are the Russians & possibly the Chinese so today the US is shaping up to taken on those same nations......beware don't believe everything that you heard about Russia being backward in a tech sense. Nor that the commies are gone, they've simply relabeled (re-branding) themselves.
This won't be a pig shoot these people will chase you & not hide in caves, we may all end up in caves after this foolish action. Just remember the lies of Iraq no-one gains & we all loose the atrocities are on both sides! Now our families no matter where you live are all at risk by moving thousands of US troops to Syrian waters, remember these words
Syria:
It is way too late to begin to tell Syria to stop.
The mass destruction/genocide of human beings has been going on for almost 2 years. Just words from Panetta, not even a slap on the wrist to Assad.
What about the Middle East/N. Africa getting involved?---they truly believe in Assad's genocide.
President Obama shows weakness, by using other people in his Admin. to give the Threats--Threats do not work. Other Countries look to America for Leadership and some kind of Action.
Why are the Drones not being used in Syria to find Assad---it is amazing to live under the Leadership of a President who cannot act, but just talk.
Where are all the other Senate Congress Members who should be speaking against this terrible Holocaust as well?
And the drums of war sound again in Washington as our President,(who won a "Peace Prize") contemplates removing the Syria government. At least with Saddam there was historical precedent with his invasion of Kuwait on his intentions for the region.
America has no moral high ground to condemn Syria's use of chemical weapon if it decides to do so against its own people.
During the 10 years Vietnam War, American war makers sprayed Agent Orange (AO) throughout South Vietnam. AO not only poisoned the environment for decades, but caused miscarriages, infant deformation and mortality, neonatal diseases, various cancers, and other mysterious ailments. American troops who were either sprayed by aerial AO or exposed to the lingering toxic chemical in the environment as they camp or patrol the contaminated area have sealed their fate to AO.
For decades these veterans of the Vietnam War have complaint of various aches and pain, illness or disease which they attribute to AO. The VA rebuffed or ridiculed them, claiming there is no evidence that AO causes any of their conditions. The government's denial is understandable: America does not want to admit or be convicted of violating the Geneva Convention which prohibit the use of chemical warfare and hence, must pay hundreds of billions of dollars as compensation and restitution to the Vietnamese people.
Essentially, the US government not only violated the Geneva Convention as to the use of chemical warfare but committed fraud against its own veterans, the very soldiers who gave so much to the US government despite the lies and misrepresentation as to the purpose of the Vietnam War.
Hmmm, "sarin", now who had a lot of that which 'suddenly' dissapeared before "Bush's" war? WMDs finally found. It's woefully painful to see heads explode on this one because now people will be killed.
How naive can you be "wakeuppeople". Bush was just 20 years too late to prevent Saddam from using his. Christ man, open up your eyes.
The Bible isn't any more credible as a source of "prophecy" than Nostradamus. What's your point?
Bush invaded Iraq because the idea of making NUKES, that kind of WMD.
People, get a clue, Syria and dozens other country can create Chemical WMD easily, but we invaded Iraq over NUKES and found NONE.
Can't be any WDMs in the Mid-East......... the libs said so, claimed it was all a lie told by Bush & Cheney.... now Syria is threatening to use them? What gives libs?
Seems to be a missing piece to the Syrian chemical weapons stockpile, such as how were they able to amass such an arsenal. Numerous sources from the old Saddam Hussein regime have verified the fact that WMD's were loaded on passenger airplanes that had their seating removed, and flown to Syria prior to the Iraq war. But of course any admission to those facts would put an end to the liberal mantra that no WMD's ever existed in Iraq, so the questions of their origin are as unlikely to be asked as they are to ever be answered. Even knowing the truth probably would never convince liberals that can find justification for anything by just claiming Bush lied.
Kleenex and Depends Corporations thank you, Conservative right wing NUTS, for your increased business in the wake of your DEFEAT in the last election to an AFRICAN AMERICAN.
CuongDNguyen
It's a genuine dissappointment for you to be so so completely wrong on Iraq - ha ha, they NEVER got ever close to "nukes". The UN, Europe and the free world was behind this action. Bush, along with the house and senate majority approval, spent over 8 months staging the invasion with not one objection from the free world. WMDs DO include sarin gas Cuong...look it up, it kills faster than anything else. BTW, Agent Orange was improperly used to clear forests in Vientnam, not kill people...another fallicy from those high on koolaid.
"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
--Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998
"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
- -Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998
I wonder what we would do after months of being attacked from all sides and the world cheering on and calling for our destruction. Would our nuclear forces be on the highest alert and the President ready to press the button or would he just roll over and raise his hands in surrender? What then? Would our leaders be tried, dragged behind cars and publicly executed by the victors?
What would China, Israel, North Korea, Russia, France or England do under similar circumstances?
Will Russia and China be tried and punished for supporting Assad or will we sign new trade deals with them?
What has happened to diplomacy and where are the UN’s peace keepers?
CuongDNguyen that is not true at all. We were very specifically looking for chemical weapons, and there are even news crews filming opening up what was thought to be chemical "Vans" used to assemble the weapons and bunkers to store them. We had no information at all such as nuclear tests being detected. We expected to find chemical weapons. I was there.
Obama's threat to take some unspecified action if Syria USES the WMD is simply foolish and too late. Action should have already been taken to stop the ongoing slaughter. But if WMD are going to be the lynch pin, then use should not be the trigger, but preparation for use should. Once mixed the mixture is, purportedly, only viable for 60 days before it goes impotent. So, clearly, mixing and loading sends a clear signal of intention to use and that is the point at which action must be taken.
BTW, the reports are indicating that the delivery mode is aerosol, which means that a wider swath of death and destruction will be cut if the stuff is used.
In the meantime, we are learning more about Obama's true reason for playing hide the ball on the Benghazi matter. See today's NYT, where it is being reported that Obama supplied weapons were used by the terrorist that killed our Ambassador and the 3 other brave Americans and the CIA scrubbed the site post attack. Get ready folks, it is going to be a very rough 4 years. But at least we have a massive debt to look forward to at home courtesy of Mr. Obama's reckless deficit spending plans
If no one acts fast re: Chemical Weapons in Syria and other ME countries, they will, and probably are already in the hands of Terrorist Groups, including the fringe elements. Am sure Assad is being very generous with his "pile of gold". If Russia is concerned, then it IS a problem.
That is why there is a need to rush to making some kind of immediate decision on how to prevent Syria from using Sarin Gases or like Chemicals---they may stretch the Earth, first hitting the US. (Western Society) and on their own ME Countries.
WallsFatCat:
Exactly---great comments telling the younger people here what really did happen in Viet Nam from your own perspective--now we see the results of a Viet Nam. Tragic.
Don't worry, Syria. If you use the chemical weapons, this chickens**t administration will do nothing more than "express outrage".....they're all bark, no bite; liberals loathe confrontation!
I wouldn't put anything past our "intelligence" community at this point.
Cripes, the whole role of the CIA is to misinform and work behind the scenes to instigate actions that lead to end results.
I feel like I'm living in a Brave New World.
What about planned and nearly complete genocide?

Save the people!!
To sum up today's WAPO article concerning Hillary's trip to speak with the Russians about Assad. Russia is not going to back any military action against Assad. Obama has no intention of taking military action, but is sending Clinton to speak with the Russians about withdrawing support for Assad. Which the Russians are not likely to do. But even if they do, Assad has no intention of stepping down, without military action to force him to do so, he is not going to voluntarily leave. With or without the Russians backing him, he will use every means at his disposal to try and retain power. Including the WMD already mixed, loaded and ready to go once the order comes down. And when he does so it will expose Obama, once again, to be a paper tiger at the expense of our national security.
Hawaii2
Ya you both, we also foolishly sat with sunglasses on, in 1943, causually watching nuclear explosions while african-americans couldn't ride in the front of a bus. GROW UP!! It's wasn't about politics...we were quite naive as to what mankind can do - there was no internet and BARELY A PHONE available. Same with agent orange.....I have a very very close friend slowly dieing from that and it pisses me off,
.... but it has NOTHING to do with Iraq or Syria in this day and age. It's apples and Volkswagons.
WAKE UP!!!
Now we know where Sadam's missing chemical weapons are. I hope U.S. response to this will be only a sympathy card. No troops or sneaky help, just MYOB. We are bankrupt; cannot afford another war.
justoneguy:
It has everything to do with Iraq and Syria.
It WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. Sorry about your friend. (A casualty from Chemical Weapons).
African Americans couldn't ride on the bus?--1943 Nuclear Explosions; no Internet---there was Communication then, sir---How did the World find out about Harry S. Truman who pulled the button on Hiroshima, ending World War II. (America attacked first, Pearl Harbor/Europe at War) The Entire World was on Fire---you know that. Your statements are all "Olio" re: the comments..
It was in the days of Paul Revere when news was delivered by riding on a Horse--It's 2012!
Hawaii2
That's my point Hawaii!! 'Nam was almost 50 years ago, if you can't comprehend what a different time that was then you obviously weren't alive or old enough. If somehow the defeat of Japan by delivering one (warning bomb) and then having to deliver yet another to end a war of wars is history, then leave it. My point is the naivety of radioactivity which then hadn't been proven to be even more dangerous than the bomb itself. (read my last post cause I don't like to write books here like some). The delivery of Agent Orange was MORE damaging to us than the enemy. So don't change history and act like we used it as some sort of chemical delivery to poison the enemy like Syria (and Iraq)_. It was simply used to clear dense forest; however, it was a tragic mistake.
today is the first day of the rest of your life...and there's nothing like the smell of poisonous gas in the morning...i just like this article didn't point out...it's their country let them do what they want...Cheetos go to the victor...
Spider, why cant you get over that you LOST the election. Fopr god sake, are you going to hate Obama until you get a stroke over it? Seriously, dude, man up. Your guy LOST. GET Over It.
Yor hate wont change anything or anyone's mind. MAn these GOPers malcontents on here are turning into the most whiny wusses ever.
CuongDwhatever
Saddam actually USED WMD's on his own people , please try to keep up , your typical drivle is pretty tired
you should ask your home country to let a little news in , and "I'm from America" isn't going to cut it ...I don't really care , just making conversation
Let's make sure we find a way to blame Bush for Syria having WMD'S.WMD's are a Republican thing,Not Democrat. So better make sure you can Blame someone else in the event that they really do exist.
http://articles.cnn.com/2004-03-21/us/iraq.weapons_1_nuclear-weapons-hans-blix-iaea?_s=PM:US
You can see why the US lobbied so hard now to get the IAEA director that we have now. The guy is basically Dick Cheney with some credentials and minimal integrity spitting out old news so neocon warhawks can fall over themselves with excitement.
see!!! i figured it would only be a mater of time before someone found a way to blame Bush for this. The Democratic party may have some decent ideas, but when it comes to accountability for mistakes they are quick to point fingers somewhere else. The Democratic party would actually be a better party if they accepted their mistakes and MOVED FORWARD rather than pin the blame on others.Let's play pin the tail on the DONKEY for once.
Because of its prolific use during this period, the American Dialect Society voted "weapons of mass destruction" (and its abbreviation, "WMD") the word of the year in 2002,[10] and in 2003 Lake Superior State University added WMD to its list of terms banished for "Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness".[11]
Evidently machine guns, helicopters and mortars are okey-dokey to use on your own people; just no sarin gas, Bashar.
40,000 killed in Syria and 40,000 killed in Mexico. Is Syria like Mexico or is Mexico like Syria?
the area of concern, sarin gas and other biological agents that are loose in Syria, could easily end up in the U S, courtesy of Alquida or some other terrorist group.
REALITY: Which each passing day, Obama and his band of merry mindless idiots, loses any integrity(actually, his rating is already in NEGATIVE territory) on the global stage.
WE have a better chance at being heard and respected if Howdy Doody, Yogi Bear or Snoopy were speaking!
Well the one good thing about this is...........at least we have got the Republican trolls to stop talking about all their conspiracy theroies about Benghazi, fast and furious, birth certificates and socialists taking over BS for a while
marklepew
On purpose??? You will never know....
First off, I noticed that the headline has changed and many commnts have mysteriously disappeared. Especially ones stating, if you want another war, send your own kids. Nguyen, Nukes, really??? there isn't an Iraqi on the planet with the knowledge to make a firecracker, let alone a nuke. The WMDs we searched for and found were chemical. And before you come back with anything on the firecracker line, the Iraqis were not the ones setting up bombs during the war.
Hello folks, Chemical Weapons are a new excuse for aggression against Syria. The tried and true WMD gambit. This was an old worn out ruse used against Iraq even before the lies about the Libyan Jamahiriya. Did not the Bush Jr. Administration, Tony Blair, and their circle of war criminals-in-office not lie to the entire international community and say that Iraq had a nuclear weapons program and weapons of mass destruction in 2003? What happened to those WMDs? This is not something that can easily be scoffed at. More than one million Iraqis died over the lies conjured by the Anglo-American duo. Not to mention the ecological damage and the intellectual genocide perpetrated against Iraq’s intelligentsia and professional class. Those were all lies to induce the support of the sheeple.
Well then Mr. President, you and NATO should start by arresting those US, British, and Israeli officials who okayed and used WMDs against civilians in Iraq, Lebanon, and Gaza. Remember the white phosphorous in Fallujah? The US and British military forces attacked an entire civilian population with their arsenal of chemical weapons in 2004.
It is funny how the resistance in Fallujah was also called an insurgency back then too. So the US and UK considered Iraqis fighting two invading armies an “insurgency” while they consider foreign-backed militias in Syria as “rebels” and “freedom fighters.” An Orwellian world it is indeed.
Syria will not use any chemical or biological weapons against its own people. The Obama Administration and company are just recycling the same lines that were used months earlier against Damascus.
In 2011, were not similar charges put forward against another Arab country? Were they not claiming that the late Muammar Qaddafi would use chemical weapons against his own population? Was it not claimed even earlier that Qaddafi and the Libyan military had brought in black-skinned African mercenaries to kill Libyan citizens? Or that Libyan jets were killing Libyan protesters? What happened to the genocide in Benghazi? Now there is nothing but silence and lost memories. Claims were made, morality and responsibility were invoked, and then a rising Arab country was bombarded. An engine of economic progress in Africa was halted in its tracks overnight and an entire society robbed.
Let us be clear, Syria threatened to use chemical weapons against any invading force on July 23, 2012. Firstly, the statement was made in a defensive context. Secondly, it was directed against military threats. This is very different from planning on using chemical weapons against your own citizens, specifically civilians.
As for Israel it is also guilty of the same war crimes. Jacob Edery, an Israeli cabinet minister, even admitted in 2006 that Tel Aviv used white phosphorus after the Red Cross and human rights organizations leaved charges against Israel about using chemical weapons on civilians. It is not Damascus, but Tel Aviv that is the home of pundits and officials who frequently speak about “Doomsday weapons” and the “Samson Option” when referring to their nuclear WMDs.
Anyone that thinks that the US government has the best interests of the Syrian people at heart needs a history lesson. Better yet, they need to look at how Obama’s partners in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the feudal Arab petro-sheikhdoms are treating their own people. These feudal desert dictatorships answer their own protestors, who are demanding for democracy and basic civil rights, with bullets and tank fire. This is pure and unadulterated hypocrisy the entire world is witnessing first hand.
The noose is being tightened around Syria. All the talk about chemical weapons is being used to justify the deployment of NATO’s missiles on the borders of Syria. The deployment of the Patriot missiles comes at a time when there are reports that there is a new aggressive push to rearm the anti-government forces in Syria. A “no-fly zone” or, as it is called in US/NATO doublespeak, a “humanitarian corridor” around Aleppo and Syria’s northern border territories is on the Obama Administration’s wish list. So the plot thickens and Democracy Inc. reinvent’s its brand with new marketing. And the sheeple chant USA, USA, USA!
Folks, WWIII is not going to happen! The people perpetrating these false flag events will be held accountable!
Yes, chemical weapon is WMD, but remember before the invasion of Iraq about those intelligent on materials claiming about NUKES.
We have known about chemical WMD in Middle East for a while now, in fact we sent them some in the 80's and 90's. Syria also lists a while back with the capacity to create chemical WMD.
However, we first put our attention in Iraq due to NUKES and we found NONE, that is a fact.
@gunner-3867236
You seem to have a short memory, the reason we paid any attention to Iraq is due to NUKES, that is what started it all. Google the history and find out yourself.

Almost the 21st of December 2012, world is supposed to end, the Mayans said so. Seriously though, Syria and chemical weapons, then we have to respond, then Russia responds and so on and so on. Makes ya go hmm to the 21st senario.
Ok because Obama didn't prevent Qatar from sending weapons that means Obama sent them? What kind of f*cked up statement is that? Even your article states that we never sent any and nor did we encourage Qatar to do it.
I guess we should have elected Romney after all. He made it perfectly clear that he would not only encourage the Arabs to arm the Syrian rebels, he'd make sure they got even heavier weapons.
http://www.businessinsider.com/romney-wants-to-arm-the-syrian-rebels-2012-10
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-10-08/romney-is-half-right-on-syria-the-u-s-should-arm-rebels.html
President Obama didn't prevent allot of things from happening. Does that make him responsible for everything? ARE YOU STUPID? No it does not. Wake the freak up. He can't be everywhere all the time. You think he is GOD? He is one man trying to do the right thing as much as he can. Give the guy a break all ready and get your own butt out there and do what you expect him to do. Until then I don't want to hear another freaking word from you. Stupid is as stupid does.
Chris I agree with you whole heartily.
"Until then I don't want to hear another freaking word from you"
hahaha....sorry chicky , you don't get to make the rules OR control the conversation , although leftist Chavez's like you think you can
What's wrong with wanting to be like Chavez? He was great boxer. Won 6 world titles and had a great career, The De La Hoya fight was amazing! Kinda sad though that his career ended with a defeat, but hey, those things happen. I'm not sure if he was a 'lefty' or not though, but I know he had a great right hook.
"great RIGHT hook" , see , even the most devout leftist like yourself can see the greatness , thanks for pointing it out
I pity you. I truly do.
pity your family , they have you...
Why is the U.S. interested in Syria? Do they produce oil?
Sure. Lots of it.
They also have a critical pipeline.
They also are the only warm-water port to which Russia has access to. It's the only coastline of the Mediterranean that the US/West does not control.
Here's my favorite quote from the story:
Assad's deputy foreign minister Faisal Maqdad said......"In fact, we fear a conspiracy ... by the United States and some European states, which might have supplied such weapons to terrorist organizations in Syria, in order to claim later that Syria is the one that used these weapons"
Well, duh....even if the American sheeple don't see it, at least the Syrian officials know what the west is doing to them.
Keep watching this story. I suspect this quote will be removed soon.
you are just another blame america for every conflict in the world "fool", Arab spring movement across varies countries including the middle east caused the current chain of events in syria, its muslims fighting their own brothers, so far, americans has refused to get involved in syria unless Assad the Butcher gas his own people.
"The United States and other Western powers could be trying to find a "pretext for intervention" in Syria's civil war, a member of the Assad regime said Thursday,"
If the US and allies intervene in Syria, Shiites and Assad regime have to blame their Sunni rulers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and Sunni Arab League nations.
Sunni rulers of Saudi and co operate through oil companies and thier lobbyists.
Iraqis have to blame again Sunni rulers of Saudi and co for the two Iraqi wars!
Of course, Christian right wants war some where! They love wars outsourced by Sunni rulers of Saudi Arabia and co and oil companies.
Wow, John M. - putting your uneducated ignorance on display for everyone.
When I get called a name, I know I ruffled a feather. Good. Now, go back to watching wrestling.
False flag op possible? Yes, of course. I don't see it happening but I did notice Shia and Sunni are killing each other. Engineered by Western intel agencies? Maybe. It started with 1 MAN immolating himself in Tunisia. We are reaching a tipping point here. Only a matter of time until this "war" draws more and more countries in. Not to mention the radical islamists.
We need to stay the hell out of this. Muslims killing Muslims is like finding money in the parking lot. Let it be, maybe it will spill over into Iran and they can kill each other too.....that would be more money found in the parking lot.
I don't suppose it has occured to anyone that the current US administration has no interest in getting involved in a military conflict in Syria, but feels a moral obligation to discourage a dictatorial regime from committing mass murder of its own countrymen. I, for one, am not reassured by the Syrian regime's assurances that it has no intention of using chemical weapons against its own people when it has consistently termed the rebels "foreign terrorists". The regime's latest statements sound very much like a prelude to using chemical weapons then attempting to blame the opposition or foreign powers for it. The US has indicated quite clearly that the use of chemical weapons will elicit a US military response. I strongly suspect that discussions with Russia and China are ongoing to prepare them for the possibility. Assad needs to understand that the US and NATO are not bluffing, and that Russia and China will not protect him if/when he uses them. I do not expect any kind of a ground invasion, but you will see the Syrian airforce decimated and chemical weapon sites reduced to smoking ash.
Leave Syria alone. Look what happened in Libya and Egypt, there are now Islamic governments there. Do we really want another one is Syria? Assad is much preferable. Maybe we should help him.
Here's what people forget about Syria when they say to leave it alone so that it doesn't end up like Egypt's situation:
Assad and the rest of the current and thankfully falling regime already fund and support as much terrorism as anywhere else, including terrorist training camps within the country. This is well known to be fact. Assad ALREADY IS a major terrorist supporter! Btw, if you don't believe me you can even just Google it. You'll get plenty links backing that up.
Kyle, could be right. Is the Military Industrial Complex setting us all up for another False Flag event?
Love to see the conspiracy theorists creeping out of the woodwork like so many starving termites... Consider this: If this is an "oil interest" scheme on the part of the US, it would be on Obama's back this time around... But, in view of his love for renewable energy I can't see this administration pulling this kind of crap. On the other hand, if it is a real threat, the onus is on him this time around. It is time for the Emperor to show us he has a pair, and get his a$$ off the campaign trail.
Coming soon one huge extremist Islamic resime....then what happens next?
You change your Depends, open yet another box of Kleenex, and learn to spell check.
The US is concerned with Europe, and Europe being close to the Mideast trade and commerce, is how the US gets involved. The countries which are expanding such as India and China have interests in mideast oil supplies, from the standpoint of transporting that oil by tanker. The Russians are oil rich and can supply oil by pipeline into Europe, so oil unto itself is a commodity which has various owners, and various transportation problems, to get to it's various consumers. Syria's geographical position is more significant to disrupting trade and cultural exchanges, than it's own culture is in making a positive influence. What the "underlying issue" is, is stable European, North African, and Mideast trade. The economies of the Mediterranean bordering countries are unstable enough presently.
Actually what they have is lots of Syrians, and this is another excuse to bring "refugees" to our and western nations to continue the policy of breeding out Whites.

Look I know there are some really bad people out the but NOTHING justifies Our Governments support secret or otherwise of Al Qaeda the alleged Murders of 911.
Think about it, would we be supporting and using Al Qaeda in Syria now if 911 wasn't a False Flag Operation? They are and have ALWAYS been a CIA Asset that they have used even against our own country and murdering our own people!
At the risk of repeating myself please watch these two links in there entirely and then ask your self WHY would they do it and how where these Al Qaeda "Crimes" be allowed to happen.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1l-8PFk8j5I

So General Dempsey are you going to let the "Tail Wage The Dog"? Two days ago your report said that there was "No Evidence" that Syria was loading Chemical Weapons yet here is a Civilian "Politician" claiming you are a LIAR! Just another Political "Pinata" getting up to swings around and around the "Truth" without saying a thing that is "Provable"!
Are you going to allow another illegal "Libya" to fall to Al Qaeda for Geo Political Power?
Or are you going to uphold your Oath and Stand Your Ground Sir, or are you going to allow American Soldiers Sailors Airmen and Marines once again to be used as "Cannon Folder" for Obscure Political Objectives?
Once before you said we 'won't be complicit' in Israeli strike on Iran.... http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_article.php?id=5638
How about being "Propagandized" into a strike against Syria by Politicians and the CIA? Are you willing to go Toe To Toe with the Russians & Chinese over Syria in support of Al Qaeda?
You as all of your subordinates Active Retired or Discharged took an Oath to Defend The Constitution of the United Sates Against All Enemies both Foreign or Domestic and to Uphold the "Honor" of the American People!
Don't ruin your legacy, it is far better to "Retire in Protest" like General Peter Pace, or General Eric Shinseki, instead Betraying US like Petraeus did. You have seen what they have done to his "Honor" these people have "NO" honor so it is up to you and your staff to stop this latest attempt at "Not War" for Wall Streets Fun & Profits?

Jimee Johnson...Same old mundane, infantile comment you interject no matter what the topic of discussion is. I have already seen it twice on this thread. Maybe your reading comprehension is such that you have no clue as to what the discussion is about.
Really MUW?
"God of Fate OK I used Startpage (I like it better than Raw Google) to search for state sponsored terrorism Syria and found nothing but Our Government calling the Pan Black!"
How did you possibly not find anything legit? Well, I see you didn't exactly follow my instructions but it shouldn't have mattered. Here, I'll help you out:
Again, I don't know how to make the links work, but you can copy and paste the site addresses. Did you visit all those sites? That's just a few. And they can't all be "Our Government calling the Pan Black" as you say. Honestly, I don't understand how you could possibly think Syria is anything but a country who has regularly sponsored terrorism. For Pete sakes, this is yet another article on how Syria is going to use chemical weapons against their own people! What do you think that is? And how the heck do you believe the current Syrian government is worth keeping in any fashion? Of course they are a threat to our security.
Also, your USA government conspiracy theories are getting tiring. Like heck we support Al-Quada! That's why we've been fighting in all these piss in the sand countries in the first place (save Iraq which was for different reasons as some of your links say) so we could eradicate the terrorists before they can strike on US soil again. I also don't understand how you can possibly dismiss my sources when you provide off topic things on Iraq and Opium fields! At the very least, you should understand that the current Syrian government has supported terrorism. There is no denying that. It's fact. It is well known that this current Syrian "government" has repeatedly supported terrorists.
I'm sorry it cut out my website addresses. I don't know why. If the links don't work, you can just copy and paste them in. There is no denying the current Syrian "government" has repeatedly supported terrorism. Here:

Ok, does anyone know why are the links being deleted? Other people can post them... They were gotten off the first two pages of a Google search of "state sponsored terrorism Syria" so you can look for them if you really like.
1. Is there any difference between Obama and his team with all credentials and Bush and his team without much brains?
2. Hope Intelligence chief was doing his job of inventions of "chemical weapons", "WMDs, killing "children and women" and so on instead of inventing stories while battling some women.
3. Similar jokes were done before each Iraqi wars as is being done now on Syria and Iran.
4. Are Paki nukes less dangerous than Iran's WMDs?
I'm beginning to wish the US actually did half the things the conspiracy nutjobs claimed we did. Maybe we should go back into Iraq and take it's oil. It would sure play havok with OPEC and gas prices if we had a huge source of free oil. Hell, toss in some false flag bombings in Saudi Arabia to look like terrorists are running rampant. Then the Saudis could pay us to come clear them out. After sucking up a few billions of dollars in cash out of them, we can take their oil too!
Start to understand how ridiculous you look yet?
look at all the propaganda the U.S. Govt. fed to us about Iraq! keep telling the same lies over and over. preach the same lies over and over about the U.S. Govt. and you wil disappear over night! is that a lie?
Amen!
No, he's not - so quit being a partisan hack. He's blaming the government and saying they're doing the same thing they've always done - lying us into another war.
Classified still means classified to some administrations. You have no idea what was found in Iraq or not and those who were there cannot say anything as a point of law. Unless you put on a uniform and went there, you know nothing but the garbage peddled to you from the media. They know even less than you think you do.
Bush was only partly to blame for Iraq. In fact, I would say he was very narrowly to blame. The ones pulling those strings were Rumsfeld, Chaney and certain circles within the CIA and military senior authority. It's the same with this deal in Syria.
Funny how one day there was no evidence of the existence of chemical weapon components and the next they were there and being weaponized. Tomorrow, they'll be dropping them on their own people and we'll rush in to save the day.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes (Black Ops) we're the ones who dropped them in the first place so that we could go in and create a presence in yet another ME country that we have no business interfering with.
Wake up people. You think the President is in charge? Congress? Please...the puppeteers sit out of sight while we remain entertained by the show they put on.
@ Darde
No the NWO.
J.I. - Right on the money!
The only reason it was stupid to blame "Lil" gw bush-League is that he was just a sock puppet for that dick, Cheney, an even more useful idiot pawn than a Republican voter.
What Assad still does not understand and accept is that the US can watch everything that is happening in Syria real time in high resolution with spy satellites that can be positioned as necessary to monitor events on the ground.
Yeah.. just like when "sat and watched" Benghazi
Dear mathuin. You've been watching too many movies and tv shows. Your statement is simply not true.
Your kidding right John Colorado? They can get the liscense plate number from your car if they want to.
We don't have satellites hovering over areas of interest. They pass overhead as their orbits allow and we analyze the data later. John Colorado is right. We can, however, maintain UAV surveillance, but that has other limfacs. I don't think we're flying UAVs over Syria at the moment, but it's always possible.
I think we have the technology to look right in thier windows. Go on Google Earth, type in: bandari-ye-bahonar Iran, Zoom in, and look at the Iranian subs just under the surface, clear as daylight! and the dozens of warships they have docked there. We could plug in a coordinate, and take out Assad (or Ahmedinijhads) Mercedes while its in the driveway. The technology is there. Damn, if I can see it, you know the Pentagon can.
I sure did. They can keep the place. Looks like hell... Nowhere I ever want to be...
Don't forget that we had the same satellite technology during Iraq, and those produced some pretty convincing images. Being a Republican stationed in Saudi Arabia I remember them well on TV and thought "Oh yeah - that all makes sense... " when Colin Powell pointed his stick at the chemical vans and bunkers, but we never found them. Syria may very well be loading up bombs but sympathizers in Lebanon may also be waiting to remove them at a moments notice. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
We're not talking images. Of course we can get those. mathuin was talking about real-time surveillance and that is something satellites can't do.
Oh, how little you all know of military technology. I suppose you think "Star Wars" was never developed either. There are secrets and there are secrets. As much as has been told over the years, I guarantee there is 150% more that will never come out.
Obama probably knows that he is the only person on earth who can stop the use of chemical weapons on masses of people. I say probably because no one knows about Obama. But if Obama does know that, he knows that if he lets the massive murders occur he will be forever remembered in HISTORY as the first US President to ignore the sanctity of life and let a rogue government kill thousands in minutes. Obama will actually be blamed in HISTORY for the feat! not Assad as Assad is just a inhuman Muslim.
No one can stop it if that is what they intend to do unless you go in and occupy their country now and declare martial law AND lock up every individual in that country. You have no idea. If the man has it and wants to use it, there is no one on this planet who has the ability to prevent him from pushing a button right now to make it happen. You honestly think they care when we threaten them? Give me a break.
Since you just inserted your FOOT into your MOUTH: Who was President in 1988, when IRAQ killed 5,000 of his own people with poison gas? I will let you chew on that, after you research. Now, who gave IRAQ the ability to make the gas? Chew some more, while you're at it.
THINK, before you let the world know how IGNORANT you REALLY are.
@rober34: Hahahahahahaha. Obama will go down in history for ignoring the 'sanctity of human life' if he doesn't intervene in Syria?????? Are you serious. Do you think he's not ignoring the 'sanctity of human life' NOW? Obama is the most pro-abortion President ever. Three times he voted AGAINST Born Alive legislation while he was a senator in Illinois. He didn't want doctors 'second-guessing' the mother by trying to save babies who survive abortion. Look it up!
Iraq had no WMDs or haven't you heard?
So what president was responsible for the millions killed in the Sudan?
Pulsar, go back to your make believe world. The funny thing is there are morons out there who actually believe he did not have WMDs. You are probably in with the group that believes 9/11 was a conspiracy also.
And for you other nuts, why are any of our Presidents responsible for a dictator mass murdering his own people? Being in everyones business is what started all of this garbage in the first place. We cannot be the world police force. That is the UNs job and NATO. A job that they are very bad at, by the way.
Pulsar, where do you see WMD in my comment? I said poison gas. Saddam gassed the Kurds and the Iranians, during the IRAN-IRAQ war. You need glasses? You made a lousy attempt to change the subject.
My interpretation of WMD is a NUKE or B-52s carpet-bombing. Gas and Bio-weapons do not mass-destroy, they just kill people, leaving structures in tact.
silly wabbit, don't you know we don't need to "seek a pretext"...if we can't find one on our own, our resident warmongers will just make one up. can you say WMD?
We can say it but you will never accept it no matter how many facts are placed in front of you. Thats ok, loyal NBC viewers do not want facts anyway.
Amen. Pro Patria!
Loyal Fox fake "news" watchers don't need no stinkin' facts, when they have empty, talking heads telling them what to think. It's like dumb and dumber, only more vacuous. Still, Conservative right wing NUTS have plenty of Kleenex and Depends to soak up their LOSS TO AN AFRICAN AMERICAN!
Jimee, are you still talking about depends, kleenex, and an african american president. Is that all you know how to say? I'm starting to think you're not toilet trained and are always crying about something kind of like a big baby. I'm not sure why you keep mentioning an african american president but i'd vote for an african american if i agreed with their policies. I wish Thomas Sowell was into politics because I think he's awesome and I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
Shiites and Assad regime have to blame themselves if the US intervenes. If they can't help themselves, how others can help them?
If Sunnis can’t tolerate a very good leader like Assad, then Shiites should not accept Sunni rulers either. Sunni rulers have been treating girls, women, Shiites, Sufis, Ahemdias and minorities worse than slaves.
Time has come for all of us to stand up and battle for liberations from Sunni barbarians and beasts.
So this means Shiites should ask for their Shiastans wherever they form more than 10 percent.
They should start their liberation struggles from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan (20 percent), Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and other places which have Sunni rulers.
What a bunch of cowards Shiites are? They talk big, act big and show their bravery before unarmed minorities like Jews, women and others. Then they add their dances when they stone them.
Shiites of Iraq should side with Kurds and should stop oil supplies to Turkey for supporting the Sunni Islamic extremists like al-Qaida, MB in Syria.
Shiites of Bahrain should overthrow their autocratic, corrupt and despotic Sunni ruler.
As they have been taking blows and killings by Sunnis, these Sunnis are able to act as they like to Shiites.
Shiites of Iran should side with Assad and see that all the Sunni rebels are eliminated.
What are the brave Hezbollah doing?
They should do suicide bombings in Mecca and Medina. Or else Shiites genocides just like the genocides of non-Muslims by the Sunni Islamic religious Nazis will continue.
Somebodies elevator doesn't go all the way up!
I love seeing grammatical errors when someone makes fun of someone else.
Go to the most Conservative right wing NUT websites and you'll be in ecstasy.
If I had opposed Iraqi wars, I would have got similar comments.
When NATO forces had to flee from Iraq, no where those commenting like some of your could be seen!
During Benghazi attack by Sunni extremists of Saudi variety, many including McCains, Hillary went into hiding.
Somebody's elevator does not start at all! So some go into wars like Iraq, Afghan, Somalia, Lebanon, Vietnam and other places!
in the middle: Don't worry. There are better editors for my books than you for correcting grammatical errors!
Didn't the world fall for the Darth Cheney / Sith BUSH W.M.D once already?
Sounds like the fear mongering now, but with a chem/bio twist.
It's happening again. Don't buy the propoganda this time.
BS
I just love that all you anti-America leftists have never bothered to REALLY research the WMD issue. I suggest that you research the U.N. MOVIC report(s) issued about the WMD thatLEFT Iraq while Bush saber rattled for MONTHS. There is photographic and other intelligence reports that unequivocally prove that Saddam DID have WMD. The second part of these reports, and why the current regime KNOWS Syria has saran gas, tells where Saddam's WMD went. Iraq's chemical weapons went to Syria.
Assad's political party, the Batthist Party, is the same neo-fascist party that Saddam belonged to, and Assad was a staunch ally of Saddam, but why bother REALLY researching the facts when you all can sit back and just let the left leaning main steam media lead you by the nose. Talk a bout LIES. The media and socialist democrats in office have been lying about the reality of WMD for years and you all believe it.
Very true reply to this comment. The trucks were moving long before we got there.
Syria acknowledged they had WMD, and would only use them against "foreign" invaders, a few months back. I'm an Independent (never Dem/Rep) and both current parties are LIARS.
Believe whichever you want, left or right, that does not make you any more believable than they are.
Saddam used WMD in 1988 against his own people. Reagan/Bush Sr. did nothing, but support IRAQ againt IRAN, to which again, IRAQ used WMD against IRAN. This time, Bush Sr., President, did nothing. IRAN did not return the favor.
Most WMD were destroyed after the 1991 Guld War. UN Inspectors stated this to GWB/Cheney. They found a couple artillery rockets - expired, during the invasion of 2003. Not enough for the haste to war in 2003. UN Inspectors did 700+ inspections and found no WMD to support war, before it began.
Hans Blix & Scott Ritter advised the WMD was mostly, if not all, destroyed after the 1st war.
The war was about Regime change, not WMD. Also, it did not help Saddam that he switch to the Euro, from the Dollar-for-oil exchange (or Petrodollar) either. That move surely signed his death warrant, because it would have fukd America greatly, to have to purchase the EURO to buy IRAQI oil. After the invasion, this was reverted back to the US Dollar.
Did Saddam move WMD to Syria or Iran? Who REALLY knows. This have not been certified as true. If so, Bush would have then and now be fully justified. He has'nt. Believe what you want. Theories abound, no real facts.
No, the world did not fall for Bush and Cheney's BS about WMDs. The UK was the only one. Russia, Germany, France etc knew it was BS.
Jim, Saddam did have weapons of mass destruction and in fact used them on his own people, the Kurds...this is in the history books...to deny this only makes you look like an uneducated idiot. Because it is very difficult to count bodies in a mass grave, it is unclear as to how many of his own people he killed with WMD's. Estimates range between 100,000 and 500,000 depending on which source you use when you research the topic. Our own CIA has released a timeline established through the investigation of WMD's in Iraq that concluded that the WMD's were in fact gone before we attacked Iraq...but don't act like they were never there. Many sources speculate, as mentioned in post above that the WMD's did find their way to Syria via semi truck convoys prior to our invasion.
Where do you people get your information? Raidaz, I agree with your take on both parties being liars, but I question your statements. They are the same trash that those very politicians want us to believe.
1. WMD were NOT mostly gone after the first conflict - the UNMOVIC report validates that there were dozens of truck movements from suspect areas that held missiles and chemical weapons to Syria. There were missile casings from Iraq located in a Netherlands recycle facility which were shipped there only weeks before the 2003 campaign. AND YES IT HAS BEEN CERTIFIED, accept for the left wing controlled media that refuses to acknowledge validated reports.
2 Hans Blix - all I can say is give me a break, this man would sell his grandmother for the right price.
3. Okay how much oil have we or even American oil interests made from Iraq? Damn near zero. So you can throw that tired old argument out the window.
In addition there were 27 U.N. resolutions that Iraq was not in compliance with - in other words they were basically a rogue/criminal nation regarding inspection infractions.
And Jim, WOW, what have you been smoking, even the left wing controlled media never said that Russia, Germany, and France claimedthere were no WMD, quite the opposite - they just were against joining in on the fight. Intelligence reports just prior to the 2003 three campaign said that Saddam had WMD, and they came from Israel, Germany, France, and even the Russians, so your statement is totally incorrect.
Don't get me wrong I am not a fan of George Bush, there is plenty that I feel he did wrong, but the thing that gets me is the falsehoods and twisted history that seems to be so prevalent in our country today. It brings to mind the saying that if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes fact.
Please people do more research than from the left wing controlled media. There is plenty of information available although it is not always easy to acquire. If you are really concerned then you will make the effort. The one thing that has motivated me is not myself because I'm quite along in years but my concern is for my son and his family, my grandchildren.
Wake up America - I know cliche, but we are in serious trouble in this country, economically, and culturally. Unless we spend a little less time bashing one another because the is a R or D attached to our name and start looking at the real problems and their causes we will not survive another 50 years as a free nation.
Those who think Syria got their chemical weapons from Santa Claus are in delusion, Saddam shipped them there b4 we invaded.
Oh I love the mis-informed dolts sometimes who come on here. You think the Sarin being discussed now is the same Sarin Sadam had in his stockpiles? Hmmm... please let the scientific world know how you have found a way to make a chemical with a shelf-life of week to months last decades. Do a little research before you spout off lies and incorrect data. Sarin lasts a couple weeks to a couple months... which is one of the reason that IF they are moving it around now, there is a likely chance that it will be used within this kind of time frame (weeks to months). Please inform yourself before posting on here. Pretty please.
Ya, we should just let Assad drop the stuff kill as many as he wants, on second hand no better not, the morons on parade will blame Bush for crying wolf and making us not help the SYrians. Libs just don't absorb much in the way of reality. If they put forth chem wepons, let them be seen loading them, they deserve to be taken out, even if they have no actual chem weps, kind of like going into a police department and saying I have a gun and want to kill a cop, but really not having a gun. The right thing to do is not let him have a chance of using them. BOOOOOOM they dropped a bomb on him.
Dennis, you need to inform youself. Sarin, and other Binary Chemical weapons have no shelf life problem. In these types of weapons the two precursors are stored seperately in the same shell and are immediately mixed before or even during the flight of the shell. It has to be done this way or the soldiers handling the weapons would be dropping like flies...and as your misinformed self stated...the shelf life of the product would be limited. Welcome to 1980's weaponry Dennis.
Thank you, redjoe for that information. I never quite understood how these chemical weapons were delivered.
As for Bill2259398 and your comment "BOOOOOM they dropped a bomb on him. Just who is they? The US? Do you think he is just sitting there in one place? Just think how many will be killed along with him; the innocent who are already victims of his egotistical, self-serving killing of his own people? Can you imagine just what the retaliation will be against us? The time to step in was when the massacre began 2 years ago when it would be more easily contained. Now it seems like it is damned if you do, and damned if you don't. Asaad has already said that he was "made in Syria and will die in Syria". He knows if he is taken out by the West, he will stand trial for war crimes and will meet the same end as Sadam did.
@ Just Shaking My Head
I'm not sure which of my statements you question. Reagan / Bush Sr. were Prez/VP in 1980-1988, when Saddam used gas against the Kurds and again against Iran, but did nothing. You question that?
Saddam did switch to the EURO in 2000. The US did reverse this back to the USD, after the 2003 war. You question that?
The rest is my opinion based on what I Googled. I'm guessing you only have similar, limited, information access, be it Google or otherwise, as most all who post here have. So you're doing the same as most are, when giving your opinion.
If you're privy to high-level information access that can't be researched online, due to classification, good for you. If not.....welcome to the limited information access world of opinions, based on information that is released and unclassified. Surely you would not post classified information.
You say Hans Blix would sell out his mother for the right price. That sounds political more than fact.
Scott Ritter was caught trying to date an under-aged child online. But he still was a UN Inspector. He claimed he did not know the age.
So which is it...First we get reports that they are getting ready to mix to produce...And then we get a report that they aren't getting ready..And now an "unnamed American official" says they've loaded precursors to mix on bombs....
So please...do tell....is it is or is it ain't?
And people wonder why there is so much distrust over this Administration....
Who is wondering why there is so much distrust over this administration? All you have to do is look at the last election. Obama won by wide margins in all of the top 10 states in education. Romney won in all bottom 10 states in education except Nevada. Almost half of republicans think that Acorn (closed in 2010) helped Obama steal the election last November. 25% of republicans want to secede.
The uneducated, uninformend and mentally challenged will never trust this administration.
Misinformed again Jim. Let's take Minnesota for example, it wasn't the precincts where people are comparing their masters degrees that won the state for President Obama. It was Hennepin County, which is made up of inner city Minneapolis, by far the largest city in the state...and nobody in Minneapolis is bragging about their reading scores...under 50% passing if you really want to know. Keep searching for the real reason he was elected in those areas...hint it isn't their concern over education my brother.
Only the right wing NUTS distrust this administration. After all, they lost to an African American TWICE! Don't worry: you'll have plenty of Depends and Kleenex to wipe up with.
Wow jimmmmeeeee johnson...Is that all you have?? "We won"? It doesn't matter to me who won since both suck @$$ at what they do.....And no, a mixed raced Democrat won.....Although you are technically correct...He IS African and now is an American....And I guess you too could use Depends after wetting yourselves with excitement and the Kleenex to wipe off your chins from your knees....
Rob68...Jimee Boy writes the same Depends, Kleenex, African American BS on every empty comment he posts. He trolls all articles and writes the same few lines ad nauseum. He does not understand that many of us vote after researching the candidates and what they have to offer all citizens, unlike many of certain groups do...They see color. I do believe Jimee has a few so-called right-wing nuts rattling around in his own head, as his thought processes seem quite limited. I am only thankful that there are still Democrats and Republicans who can think independently and analyze objectively.
Assad said that he would never "use gas on his own people"!
From his selective point of view....... anyone fighting against his regime, is an "outside agitator" aka: not Syrians...which gives him the "OK" to use gas.
It's gonna be interesting, and potentially sad, to see how this all pans out! One can only hope for a clean surgical "take-out" of this POS!
Spoken from the "Peanut Gallery".
Grow up.
Pretext to intervene ,don't make me laugh. We already covered up deaths in Libya due to gun running shoulder fired missles to Syrian rebels, WE ARE INTERVENED.
Nobel prizes are not given out for bombing countries.only for closing prisons in cuba and ending wars in iraq and afghanistan.o darn i forgot and for some vague references for maybe doing something or the posibility of doing something.i'd be willing to bet some of those stock piles of chemicals have made in iraq on them.
Ya get Nobel prizes for not being Bush.
MG71...Pray tell; what closing of Cuban prison are you talking about? Oh...That's right; you must mean Guatanamo Bay, which was promised to be closed within a year of his first term. Let's see...It is now his second term; 160 (approx.) still are retained there, with no closing in sight, and opposition to it by the Senate and Congress. There are a lot more pressing issues right now of course, but Nobel Prizes should not be given out by mere promises of what is going to be done.
1)Turkey is a NATIO memeber.
2)Syria uses gas and Turkey is effected
3) Syria goverment goes good night moon.
4) No pretext needed
NATIO??
if that is your only reason for commenting ,why bother at all ? Typical when you have nothing intelligent to say pick on typos or spelling.......... liberal loon
Right wing NUTS: sale on Kleenex and Depends. Hurry! Your second loss in a row to an African American is a boon to those companies. Thanks.
I'm a veteran and all those that think sending in the U.S. military is such a great idea I ask you to do this. If you are not a veteran, go down and sign up for the U.S. military now. I'm really tired of people that think war is such a good idea, as long as they don't need to risk anything themselves. Patriotism is serving your country, not having others fight for you all the time. If you're young enough, sign up and join in or shut the hell up about war. That's the action of cowards.
Most people on here are too old to serve.
The rest are to fat to serve.
And I see very few on here that want to send in the military.
Especially for something coming from Un named officials.
Thanks for serving.
I retired 6 months ago after 24 years. Spent 18 months in Iraq on two deployments. The biggest waste of time ever as now they are spinning out of control, but know one thinks that is news worthy. I have lost many friends in both countries since this started. 3 of them were lost when the USS Firebolt was attacked in March of '02 and their names do not show up on the lists that are out there for those who have given their lives. John, you are on spot with this one and it should go equally strong towards our elected officials. Yes, we volunteered to serve our country and when it hits the fan, we go where we are ordered to go and we do what is necessary to come home alive or to ensure that our teammates come home alive. Congressmen and Senators alike, have your children sign on the dotted line and go fight this one if you go against the will of the people and get us into another war. It is simple, put up or shut up. I stayed in as long as I legally could by the books. I will come back in, in a heartbeat, to continue to protect the PEOPLE of this nation. the people being those who have been ignored an forced to deal with trillions in debt and no jobs while the big contractor companies run up the bills and make fortunes from war. I fought for the people of this country, not for the corporations that are destroying us. The best advice is to stay out of Syria, it is not our fight, and get out of Afghanistan NOW. We have lost too much and gained absolutely NOTHING!
Peyton Manning reportedly just enlisted and won't be available to play against the Raiders tonight.
I second that!!
Especially wen its the wealthy who benefit most. Syria horrible situation, but we don't need to go to war. Let the moslems sort it out. .5% of the US pop serves--thats it. .@!$%#ing 5%. Me, my son, not guys like Romney and his bunch of sugar britches.
And evidently not guys like Obama either....you left him off your list.
...the chemical WMD's in Syria were imported from Iraq prior to the US invading Iraq.
No one thinks you are not qualified to speak of it if you have not worn the uniform, but those who have been there are better able to address the lies people keep flinging. I was in Iraq twice and searched for WMDs. Guess what, did not fnd them, they were gone before we got there because we gave him time to move them. Some things cannot be spoken of. If you were military, not current news and administration, you would understand that also. The residual proof and proof before he moved them was there. Gulf War syndrome was caused primarily from the destruction of the labs used to produce the junk in the first Gulf War. Please, gather proveformation before jumping on the bandwagon bashing former Presidents. It is obious from recent events, even in that seat, you do not know it all.
Assad has nothing to worry about with President Stinky (BO). He's a coward, and will only lead from behind, which is what the rest of us call following. Stinks is a complete piece of garbage. The only people who need fear him are the productive members of society. To the rest he's Santa, a terrorist, or a coward.
40,000 have already died and no other country has done a G-D thing to stop it. We are not the world's police and I would be happy to see this president keep us OUT of the conflict.
And IF he did move on Syria YOU would scream about that. You sore loser, the PEOPLE won the election, and you are warmongering. Don't go away mad, just GO AWAY.
Thank you for explaining your childish name-calling.
Childish nickname.
Go back to watching Nascar and increasing that beer belly.
President stinky (BO) goes over really well at his white supremacist meetings.
Stockholders of Depends and Kleenex Corps. think these vapid right wing NUTS are the gift that just keeps on giving. These cretinous LOSERS are good at only one thing: stupid!
Here is a hint. Stay out of it. That is what starts the problems. If for some reason things kick off and we get involved, who are you all going to blame for it?? President Bush is on his ranch in Texas, not his problem. Let your senators and congressmen know that we, the American people, do not and wil not condone any action in Syria regardless of what they do. It will only cost us American lives and trillions more in debt to the contractor companies and rebuilding their mud huts. Stay out of this fight. It is not our business.
Syria should fear our military but not our weak leader.
Barb--Glad Obama is Prez and not you.
So is this another White House leak talking to NBC?
Un named officials?
The White House press Secretary needs to make a statement on go on the record.
TRANSPARANCY.
How about Barack needs to address Congress on this?
Before he takes a vacation or goes golfing in Thailand or something.
That video report was simply awful. "Syria has one of the most robust air defenses in the world." What a joke! Even before this conflict, that would have been a laugh line.
AFP: "Syrian air defense a paper tiger"
That article is now out of date. The VAST MAJORITY of the remaining air defenses around Damascus, Idlib, and Aleppo, have been knocked out since that article was written.
What air defenses does Assad have left?
They might have good hardware but many of the soldiers and leaders have been killed or defected.
NBC and WHITE HOUSE LEAK go hand in hand.
Un named U.S. officials should be sent to prison.
David Axlerod is a good place to start.
We've heard this all before. When they actually use a chemical weapon, and there is really some verifiable evidence it was used by the Assad regime, then I'll pay attention. But it would not be far fetched for the CIA to stage a chemical weapons attack against some poor civilians and then say Assad did it.
Just stay out of it. It is not our issue. We involved ourselves diplomatically in Egypt and militarily in Libya. Both have all but turned against us. Let them kill themselves off and then kill the survivors.
Navy Vet, so am I 76-80, I think we both know we cannot sit back and watch this guy gas his own people or in fact use chemical weapons period. I agree with you, it is not our issue but if this chemical weapon threat is real it needs to be dealt with. Maybe someday the rest of the world will realize the U.S. is not so bad.
It should be obvious that we cannot depend on leaks from the government or the media to determine when to act. They are still trying to say they had no clue what caused Benghazi. We cannot attack on a threat. Personally, why attack if he does it? Shelf life expires on the cloud, go in clean up. I do not want to sound like I do not care, but people who have not lost friends to these people who hate our guts and will look you in the face and threaten to cut your throat, want to coddle them and feel sorry for them. Two feet, a bag of belongings and start walking until you find a better place. Stay around these people and end up on their bad side and dead. Not a hard choice, but not my problem. There is too much to fix in our own country.
Syria fears the U.S.??? With Obama as President??
OBAMA has not the Balls to attack Syria!! Besides? How can he pay for such a war??
He would have to ask the Millionaires and Billionaires to fund it!
There is always plenty of your tax dollars for war, but when you need it the most, we're broke and you have to pay more.
Coal Man: Millionaires and Billionaires didn't fund any wars, the social security administration did, the average American did, where do you get your information? Obama is actually a better war president (if there is such a thing) than GW Bush.
Israel will react before the U.S. if the reports are true about the Sarin.
Its no "a leak". obama just hosted Maddow, Schultz, Sharpton and the rest of the MSNRC/White House Press Office so they would try and sell his message as news and facts.
He is throwing them a party for getting him elected.
NBC and G.E = total ASSH0LES.
