Venezuela's Chavez says cancer has returned and he's facing new operation in Cuba

Miraflores Press via EPA

Hugo Chavez, left, and Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro talk during a national broadcast in Caracas, Venezuela on Saturday. Chavez said that he will return to Cuba to undergo further cancer surgery. He also said that if his health was to deteriorate and new elections were to be held, his supporters should vote for Maduro.

CARACAS, Venezuela - President Hugo Chavez said on Saturday he would undergo another cancer operation after doctors in Cuba found a third recurrence of malignant cells in his pelvic area.

The news is a big blow for his supporters in South America's biggest oil exporter, who elected him in October to a new six-year term in power. Chavez has twice said he was cured, and then had to return to Cuba for more surgery.

In a televised broadcast flanked by ministers at the Miraflores presidential palace, Chavez said that if anything happened to him and a new vote had to be held, his supporters should vote for Vice President Nicolas Maduro - the first time the socialist leader has named a successor.

Chavez returned to Venezuela on Friday from having medical treatment in Cuba, ending a three-week absence from public view.

"Unfortunately, during these exhaustive exams they found some malignant cells in the same area ... . It is absolutely necessary, absolutely essential, that I have to undergo a new surgical intervention," the 58-year-old said, looking resolute.

"With God's will, like on the previous occasions, we will come out of this victorious."

The president has already had three cancer operations in Cuba since the middle of last year. News of more surgery will likely raise new doubts about his future and the fate of his self-styled "revolution" in the OPEC nation.
Chavez, who has dominated Venezuelan politics since taking power 14 years ago, said he would return to Havana on Sunday.

Under Venezuela's constitution, an election would have to be held within 30 days if Chavez were to leave office within the first four years of his next term, due to begin on Jan. 10.

The president has been receiving treatment at the Cimeq hospital in Havana as a guest of his friend and political mentor, former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

"The president has been receiving treatment"

Chavez is not a "president", he's a dictator. The nut job over in Iran calls himself a president, but he is anything but. And of course Chavez has dominated politics for 14 years, he kills or imprisons any kind of political opponent. Sadly, here in America, there are some ignorant young people that actually like him, especially the ones that wear a hoodie with Chavez's ugly face stitched on the back.

Chavez is the democratically elected president of Venezuela. He also happens to be a socialist. Based on Venezuela's history of having its resources exploited by foreign corporations, primarily those domiciled in the United States, it is easy to understand Venezuelan voters, particularly the poor, indigenous people, backing a leader who nationalized the foreign oil companies (and compensated them), using the revenues to provide basic services and subsidies for necessities to the people.

It truly amazes me how many people know absolutely nothing about the history of Venezuela or Chavez except what the may get from the media ,like say Fox or the Washington post. Because you sure as hell didn't learn it in school. Wait, that's right you also say our school system sucks. And of course everyone that goes to a cancer treatment center in the states gets cured. And to the fool I say before you could ever think of putting Obama into jail. you better put Bush, Cheney in jail 1 st because as it stands right now they HAVE warrants out there for their arrest. I would be the 1 st against letting any country arrest any of our Presidents.

I don't like or dislike Chavez that is a Venezuelan problem to solve. You people nee d to get your own elected representatives to try to do something here to fix our problems. You all seems like you would try to crucify Christ if he came back because he doesn't meet your standards of Christianity that you all have come up with and no doubt in my mind you all would label him a communist and a socialist from the get go.

No person should have to be dictated to by another. ALL dictators are bad/evil. BTW, that 'democratic' election in Venezuela looked remarkably like the one held here in the US in November. 100% votes in some areas. 140% votes in some areas. Thugs at the poll entrances. Republican officials forced from the polling areas and replaced by Dimwits. Illegals and dead folks voting. Double and triple voting by the busloads. One of the first things that needs to be done before another election is clean up the election process. One day of voting, not weeks. Enable the military votes, they're the ones keeping what little freedom we have left. PHOTO ID, and clean up the polling official problems.

To all the people labeling Shosyn as a Christian full of hate just because she mentioned God in her post:

Expressing your opinion and your point of view over a subject doesn't necesarily mean you are a person full of hate. You can disagree on something, or might dislike/resent a situation that has touched adversily, but that doesn't mean you are full of hate.

And why is it that when someone who mentions God, expresses their opinion on a subject, it's hate; but when nonGod believers express their hateful opinion on a subject, it's Freedom of Speech?!

Countless have suffered because of this narcissistic despot ...

Among them is judge Maria Lourdes Afiuni, imprisoned for the last two years for daring to rule against his regime's liking and who was recently raped by prison guards (later aborted). Human Rights Watch and even flaming Liberal-abaters such as Noam Chomsky have condemned Chavez and pleaded for her release.

Hopefully that most repulsive PARASITE of Sean Penn - who loves so much to wage his leftist politics on the backs of countless, and less-fortunate, millions - will follow in his fate!

Al Kyda, I do not give a rats ash about WWJS, I think the world will be better off when this DICTATOR is dead and the sooner the better. He has 'given' his people what they need? What a load of crap, how about he SHARES the oil wealth equally? Then the people of Venezuela caould afford to buy a car to run on that 9cent a gallon gas they boast about. 9cent per gallon gas is only great if you can afford the car. Have you ever been t South America? With the exception of Brazil it is soo dirt poor. In Ecuador, which happens to be one of the better off countries, they eat rice three times a day, if they are lucky enough to get a bit of something else they add it to the rice to give it a little flavor. And in Venezuela it is worse, much, much worse only the people can not say anything for fear of coming up missing never to be heard from again, I know, I HAVE been there and it. Screw Chavez and the sooner he is dead the better off they and we will all be.

See radiobiology and secondary cancers and radiation induced diseases. Almost all diseases today are from Marie Curie's era in Europe and the horrific meltdowns and persistent testing around the world. We're sick of you. We don't want your pharmacide drugs. Stop hurting people. Down Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis, cleft palate, diabetes are all caused by Radiation. YOU know it. Shame on you. don't dare deny it and say it's from cosmic and natural sources when the US is the highest medically irradiated population in the world with higher exposures since the 1980s. See The Treatment by Martha Stephens , 2002 and there was NO treatment, right Saenger? Heller? Seaborg? and Kligman? others? Your names are in all the books. Gamma waves are medical radiation. The exposures were higher and uncontrolled in Europe, now it's in all our food, water, air and YOU NEED TO QUIT cursing the human race. or are we just "matter" to YOU? 67% Double strand DNA breaks in 1 mS from xrays. There is absolutely no evidence to support most of what you said. Nevertheless, I agree there should be less unnecessary exposure to man made radiation, and that includes nuclear power generation.

Actually, we all need to stop and think about that word "disease." It literally means dis-ease...the body not at ease or not "in sync." The human body is designed to heal itself IF we would just take time to learn how to listen to it. We constantly bombard it every day with self-induced poisons - environmental, mental, artificial chemical substances,over-indulgence, etc.

I think he's getting the level of health care he paid for. I'm surprised he went "back" to Cuba for more questionable care. Oh well, this means that his country will have a new dictator soon.

From all objective reports, that is, reports that aren't influenced by anti-Castro, anti-communist ideology, Cuba has a pretty good medical system.

Apparently Venezuela doenst.Hmmmm, Let me think. The leader of a country wants all his country folk to take advantage of the "fine health care" that he has provided for them. However when he needs medical care he goes elsewhere with different payment options. Hmmmm.

I know it sounds familiar, but I just cant place my thumb on where i recognize the situation from... Hmmm.

          Any helpers?

"Democracy is impossible in a capitalist system. Capitalism is the realm of injustice and a tyranny of the richest against the poorest. Rousseau said, 'Between the powerful and the weak all freedom is oppressed. Only the rule of law sets you free.' That's why the only way to save the world is through socialism, a democratic socialism... [Democracy is not just turning up to vote every five or four years], it's much more than that, it's a way of life, it's giving power to the people... it is not the government of the rich over the people, which is what's happening in almost all the so-called democratic Western capitalist countries."

            Hugo Chavez

Both socialism and capitalism are highly evolved and funtional forms of government. It just depends on where you are at the time on which is best. We in the west JUST LIKE OUR SOCIALIST COUNTERPARTS are indoctrinated from birth to believe our system is best. Governments crumble and fail not based on the philosophical flaws of the system but from corruption of the people running the system. Governments do what they do, grow in size and power till the citizens overthrow or in someway revolt against them ending their lifecycle.

Perhaps that is why America is a "republic" built on capitalist values.

That is why you have always been told you can be anything you want in America if you work hard.

            And that adage is true.

But, if you sit back and wait for the "socialist" part of the system to take care of you, you are no longer in the game.

Then you are merely a part of the overall problem.

And, yes sometimes the system needs to be re-booted, but most times not in America.

Our system gets re-booted once every mid-term and once in a presidential cycle.

The only problem we have currently is that too many want the social end of the stick.

That is why we are stuck with what we have now.

What actually saves us, in many ways, is that we are a Constitutional Republic. Thus we can't go beyond a certain point by mob rule (left mob, right mob, insert what you want). Your stuck because you did not convince enough people you were correct. In two years theres another election.

Please read your history books again. The United States is a Hybrid called a "Democratic-Republic"

Article IV of the Constitution is the only place talking about "Republic" It states- "to every State in this Union a Republican form of Government." It does NOT call the US Government a Republic only that States shall have a Republic form of government.

Just look it up and read it for your self.

Chavez will not be missed me or anyone I know. Its not that the docs in Cuba are any better, he just can't trust any of them at home.

These countries have freed themselves from the tyranny of the USA and their people have opportunities they never had before. It is only the 1% who have lost the ability to exploit the common people. They offer no threat to the USA but still we can see what hate the ignorant peons in the USA feel.Very sad.

It is testament to the effectiveness of the corporate whore media mind control, the extinction of critical thinking, and mass laziness of the corporate serfdom to learn even the most basic facts about the outside world.
