MOMBASA, Kenya — Raiders killed villagers and burnt homes in an early morning attack in Kenya's volatile coastal Tana Delta region that left 28 people dead, police said Friday.
They said the raid appeared to have been a revenge attack following clashes between farmers from the Pokomo tribe and semi-nomadic Orma tribesmen.
They have fought for years over access to grazing, farmland and water in the coastal region.
Masked 'goons' kill at least 17 in attacks on churches in Kenya
More than 100 people died in a series of attacks in the area earlier this year.
Robert Kitur, Coast Region deputy police chief, told reporters that the villagers seemed to have been ready for the attack.
"About 150 Pokomo raiders attacked Kipao village, which is inhabited by the Ormas early Friday, but the Ormas appeared to have been aware and were prepared,” he said.
"A confrontation ensued and as result 19 Ormas and 9 Pokomos were killed," he added.

You sure do get raped a lot!!
But WTF does that have to do with the Kenyans?
I would rather save these folks than anyone from the ME...why cant we help these people? both sides could use a little modernization to make both happy...and maybe it doesn't even have to be modern...I'm sure there is something we can offer them that would please both...i mean for goodness sake we sent 2x this year a multi million possibly billion dollar piece of high tech equipment to stop missiles...and we cant extend one ounce of our resources to help these people???
you know, america is ready to get out of the terrorist business, it would should good face to help these, both sides, to live a little more comfortably.
Yeah, heck, let's help them. I'm sure it'll do a lot of good. Throw some more money at it.
Nothing can help them - they have not evolved to a point where they can be helped, and will not for 10,000 years. But for the material possessions they have due to western influence, they still live in the stone age. This is why their descendants in this country fight, over breed, and kill incessantly. Evolution - you cannot rush it.
Compassionate people, all. Of course, everything that Atty. MAAW avers might be true. It's not always a kind, just nor perfect world. And if she really is a recent law school grad, good for her. May she pass whatever Bar equivalents the solicitors and barristers have in place in GB, or the former empire. But those of us with a little exposure to those behaviorally challenged might see more in what she writes. The style of writing, replete with repeated and possibly excessive detail, the appeals for help, the audience, the proposed remedies, the reports of involvement of the mental health system, the detail on alleged surveillance, the religious Jones, etc.---all make it possible that this poor lady also may be in need of competent help from mental health professionals. But it remains possible, as in a number of these sad cases, that sexual violence actually occurred, and that indeed, whatever she now suffers may be sequelae of a possible assault. Sexual violence can have incredible effects on the less resilient among us, as I should know. And, recall, all, that in the former East Block states, psychiatry's role was quite broad. Other examples exist. I hope she gets help of many sorts, and my heart goes out to her, and perhaps to those on her list of personal detractors. Inshallah. Aa.
PS. Yep, darkest Africa, again. Glad we have an ocean between us and that place. Don't envy the Europeans for many reasons. Here's one more. Aa.
51 years too late.
Wenn wir diesen Krieg verlieren, ist es fuer Deutschland aus. Aa.

Back to Kenya, as it were, it doesn't sound like the Ormas were prepared at all.
Agree, according to the scorecard.
but in fairness, we don't know how many would have been lost had they not been "prepared"...
But ima say this, I would rather save these folks than anyone from the ME...why cant we help these people? both sides could use a little modernization to make both happy...and maybe it doesn't even have to be modern...I'm sure there is something we can offer them that would please both...i mean for goodness sake we sent 2x this year a multi million possibly billion dollar piece of high tech equipment to stop missiles...and we cant extend one ounce of our resources to help these people???

Maybe they should put a limit on how many spears you can have in your hand!
right. good point sir
Don't forget the waiting period and background checks for spear purchases.
Does this count as a mass killing? I thought you said those only happen here in the US.
The U.S. specializes in mass killings perpetrated by one or two people, in most of the world such events are mob actions. USA! USA!
Regions aren't volatile, people are.
The big word left out was--- Islamic --- nomads.
send hillarey over there she will take care of the problem--- !!
It's a serious Human Rights issue. Because it's a Tribal/Indigenous conflict rather than a Nation/State conflict, it's trickier to negotiate terms of agreement, but the U.N. has agencies that address these forms of sovereign peoples globally. What al-Qiada has done to tribal peoples in Afghanistan and Pakistan is also a Human Rights issue skirting the pervue of Nation/States conflict, and I believe they have done so knowing the political definitions they were avoiding. It doesn't have to be ignored. Anyone who thinks this is a race/culture comparative is deluding themselves.
To: Roadlesstravelled. You ever been to Kenya ? If not, then you should take a missions trip with your church, and get a real feel for the home country of Barack Obama.
Another part of the world that is a vast area of ignorance, religious intolerance and stupidity. They will continue to kill until there is no one left.
there needs to be ONE LEFT!
There can be only one!
Natural selection in action, folks.
Plus, were those Islamic nomads?
sounds like the gangs in south central los angeles,
except , wait, they have food, shelter, and clothing...even basic education.....
familys not starving...so why the continual territorial fight
Why more fighting? More votes means more money and control of free people..
Just change the location to South Chicago and you'd have a typical Saturday nighr.
People who persist in living in the past are doomed to be passed by as the world modernizes around them. Both sides of this conflict are to blame for the hatred they show the others, and they all need to get together to survive on the land they still have access to, before some developer comes and takes it all away to put up a parking lot and a swinging hotspot. Watch out for the big yellow tractor.
17 more Christians kill in Kenya - BY MASKED GOONS!!! I guess the Muslim head covers fell down over the Attacker's faces or the MEDIA IS SCARED TO PRINT WHO ACTUALLY THE ATTACKER WERE!!!
Assault weapons are banned in Kenya so this story is obviously not true.
