An Egyptian election worker shows his colleagues an invalid ballot.
CAIRO - A constitution drafted by an Islamist-dominated assembly was approved by a majority of Egyptians in a referendum, rival camps said on Sunday.
The Muslim Brotherhood, which propelled President Mohamed Mursi to power in a June election, said 64 percent of voters backed the charter after two rounds of voting that ended with a final ballot on Saturday. It cited an unofficial tally.
An opposition official also told Reuters their unofficial count showed the result was a "yes" vote.
Official results are not expected until Monday. If the outcome is confirmed, a parliamentary election will follow in about two months.
Mursi's Islamist backers say the constitution is vital for the transition to democracy, nearly two years after the overthrow of autocrat Hosni Mubarak in an uprising. It will provide stability needed to help a fragile economy, they say.
But the opposition accuses Mursi of pushing through a text that favors Islamists and ignores the rights of Christians, who make up about 10 percent of the population, as well as women. They say it is a recipe for further unrest.
"According to our calculations, the final result of the second round is 71 percent voting 'yes' and the overall result (of the two rounds) is 63.8 percent," a Brotherhood official, who was in an operations room monitoring the vote, told Reuters.
His figures were confirmed by a statement issued shortly afterwards by the group and broadcast on its television channel.
Regional news channel Al Jazeera also reported that early indications suggest the draft constitution will be approved.
"It appears at the moment that in the region of 68 per cent of voters have approved the draft constitution, some 32 percent have voted against," said reporter Mike Hanna in Cairo.
The Brotherhood and its party, as well as members of the opposition, had representatives monitoring polling stations and the vote count across the country.
The opposition said voting in both rounds was marred by abuses and had called for a re-run after the first stage. However, an official said the overall vote favored the charter.
"They (Islamists) are ruling the country, running the vote and influencing the people, so what else could we expect," the senior official from the main opposition coalition, the National Salvation Front, told Reuters.
Opponents of Egypt President Morsi say he's betraying the revolution, but his supporters say he wants to guarantee human rights with a controversial referendum on a new constitution. NBC's John Ray went onto the streets of Cairo to hear from both sides of the deepening divide.
The vote was split over two days as many judges had refused to supervise the ballot.
"I'm voting 'no' because Egypt can't be ruled by one faction," said Karim Nahas, 35, a stockbroker, heading to a polling station in Giza, in greater Cairo, in the last round.
At another polling station, some voters said they were more interested in ending Egypt's long period of political instability than in the Islamist aspects of the charter.

"We have to extend our hands to Mursi to help fix the country," said Hisham Kamal, an accountant.
The build-up to the vote witnessed deadly protests, sparked by Mursi's decision to award himself extra powers in a decree on November 22 and then to fast-track the constitution to a vote.
Hours before polls closed, Vice President Mahmoud Mekky announced his resignation. He said he wanted to quit last month but stayed on to help Mursi tackle the crisis that blew up when the Islamist leader assumed wide powers.
Mekky, a prominent judge who said he was uncomfortable in politics, disclosed earlier he had not been informed of Mursi's power grab. The timing of his resignation appeared linked to the lack of a vice-presidential post under the draft constitution.
The new basic law sets a limit of two four-year presidential terms. It says the principles of Islamist sharia law remain the main source of legislation but adds an article to explain this. It also says Islamic authorities will be consulted on sharia - a source of concern to Christians and others.
In the first round of voting last week, the district covering most of Cairo voted "no," which opponents said showed the depth of division.
"I see more unrest," said Ahmed Said, head of the liberal Free Egyptians Party and a member of the National Salvation Front, an opposition coalition formed after Mursi expanded his powers on November 22 and then pushed the constitution to a vote.
At least eight people were killed in protests outside the presidential palace in Cairo this month. Islamists and rivals clashed in Alexandria, the second-biggest city, on the eves of both voting days.

Another country overtaken by radical islamists..Congratz to U.S and Europe...
Its been slowly happening here in Sweden for years and the government is pushing for more refugees that we cannot afford or have jobs for.
"The Muslim Brotherhood, which propelled President Mohamed Mursi to power in a June election, said 64 percent of voters backed the charter after two rounds of voting that ended with a final ballot on Saturday. It cited an unofficial tally."
When Saudi inspired Sunni extremist Muslim Bloodhounds, Salaffi and other label ones hold elections, can it be different?
The election results are as rigged and fake as their Sunni Allah!
I don't think Allah's prechings were as bad as these one-way traffic hating and killings Sunnis interpretations of Allah preachings!
This should not come as a surprise to anyone. The Muslim Brotherhood made sure the referendum passed the same way they made sure that Morsi was elected to start with, through voter intimidation and stuffing the ballot boxes. How can any vote be seen as legitimate when the people monitoring the election are partisans that support one outcome. The judges who oversaw this vote as well as Morsi's election were predominantly members of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood has taken control of Egypt and they will never relinquish that control through any peaceful means. They have pushed through a constitution that ensures that Egypt will remain in the hands of the Islamists by making virtually all legislative and judicial decisions subject to review by a select group of Islamist clerics. Under the constitution it would be virtually impossible for someone who is not an Islamist to become president, or even hold any significant position of power in the government. The only way that the Islamists will lose control of Egypt at this point is through a violent overthrow, and that will only occur if they lose the backing of the military. Since Morsi has replaced most of the military leadership with Islamists, this is not likely to happen. It would take a revolt from the lower levels in the military against the leadership for any change in who governs Egypt to occur. Now that this consolidation of power is complete, I would not be surprised to see Egypt abrogate the peace treaty with Israel. This has been a stated goal of the Muslim Brotherhood as well as several other Islamist factions in Egypt. This shift in control in Egypt brings what little stability there has been in the Middle East into great doubt. Couple this with the shift in control in Libya into the hands of the Islamists and what appears to be the inevitable shift of Syria into their hand as well, and I do not see how there will be any stability in the region for a long time to come. Morsi has already made it very clear that he backs Hamas, so I do not see his backing of other terrorist organizations like Hezbollah to be far behind. I see a war breaking out between Israel and its Islamist controlled neighbors to be matter of when it will happen, not if it will happen at this point. All of these developments have been influenced by, if not a direct result of the Obama administration's foreign policy decisions. These developments have definitely made the Middle East a far more dangerous and less stable region and we will be feeling the repercussions for many years to come.
Very true JS in SD
But I was still hoping that since they just got through a revolution that the opposition to Morsi would show more spine. Then again, that's what they get for only making it possible for half of them (minus woman who were/are regularly mob raped) to oppose Morsi openly. No, it wasn't a likely hope. But I had it nonetheless. Oh well. Just add more fuel to the fire in what was already the most unstable and Muslim extremist friendly region on earth.
So how much aid are we going to send these Muslim Brotherhood clowns again?
The world is too different for some Americans to stomach.
Respect for the rights of others is peace - Benito Juarez.
Yeah Islam brings peace wherever it goes. Peace to women, peace to little girls trying to go to school, peace to non-believers. Grow up Benito, the world can be a nasty place
@ Egypt.
Careful what you wish (vote) for. Palestine voted for Hamas in a free election, and after they were elected, Hamas decided to throw out free elections and put them in power permanently. Very similar to what is happening across the border in Egypt.
Pigotry. I'm not convinced it is an issue of whether or not we can stomach it. From our interests, it could be an issue of Egypt moving from a guarded border crossing to a funnel for Iranian arms into Palestine. Other than this it is mostly their deal. But I do remember the number of women celebrating the new spring that was dawning in the middle east. I remember the smiling faces, elation if expression that something special was happening there. With the Muslim brotherhood now secured in power, I can't help but wonder if they foresaw themselves witnessing their free spring through what will soon to be a veil.
@ Pigotry,
You mean respect for others like those mobs had for those woman? Because if that's "respect" then the people in those mobs had a ton for the ladies...
Or do you mean respect like groups such as the Taliban and Al Qaeda give us and Israel?
Three guess as to who the Muslim Brotherhood is more likely to support:
1. Muslim Males and/or Radical Terrorists?
2. Or everyone equally except the local Muslim Extremist Terrorists, including woman, and non Muslim males, and countries like the USA who helped make their revolution possible?
Look, I have nothing against the Muslim religion Pigotry. And I'm Jewish. But the truth is some very sick people hide behind that religion to try and justify their savage ways. And due to the success in the middle east and appalling support of these Terrorists by certain countries (all supporting countries had Muslim governments) in the region, it is sadly somewhat accepted over there. We can't ignore what this most likely will turn out to be.
It also isn't a good idea for religion and government to mix in most circumstances, because the people of one religion are at the very least prioritized, while the people not of government sponsored religion are often discriminated against or worst. And woman tend to be abused in those kinds of countries, too. No, not all Muslims are terrorists or support terrorists. But alarm bells ring in my head when that mixes with government because of what it has historically meant time and time again. Look at the history of how it plays out. Tell me, how is this time any different?
The two things that region needs most are religious freedom/tolerance and woman's rights. I have never heard of a single Muslim run government where either was even close to a priority. We are only looking at it realistically, and the truth is they (the extremists and their supporters) are the ones who lack respect for others and disrupt peace more than anyone else.
The Truth Machine, have you lived in a mid-eastern country or do you make all your judgements from our biased newspapers? There's good and bad in all. Why do we force countries to be like us. I hate homosexuality yet they try to force it on us. At least Muslims pray 5 times a day, how many times a day do you pray. Sounds like you are starting the KKK all over again. Hate is ignorance.
@ parkerjoe,
In the western world, very few Lutherans go pray 5 times per day, thank god for their existence and for what is good in the world, leave the church to find a mentally handicapped person, strap a vest filled with bombs on them and send them on their merry way to find a Catholic gathering while holding onto a remote control.
Comparing Truth to the KKK while admonishing groups sexual preference while reflecting on Truth's context is a stretch........
@ parkerjoe56,
Please crawl back into whatever hole you crawled out of, and stay there. I would hope even you could see the hypocrisy and fallacy of what you wrote.
The only surprise here is it wasn't passed by over 95%, I guess they have learned not to make it look ridiculously rigged but I have no doubt it was rigged. BTW I know who Morsi is but who the F is Mursi. Don't need an editor for that, proof reading and just a little prior knowledge and attention to what you are writing about would solve that. Mosi has only been in the news for the last year or so. Even using quotes from yesterdays article. This wouldn't have been acceptable in my high school journalism class, NBC certainly shouldn't accept it, but then again real journalism seems to be a thing of the past.
Thats what you get when you have one party running a country, and washington should have figured that out before they started backing morsi. Course we will have to see how much money washington gives egypt now. In the long run mubarak will be no better or worse than the muslim brotherhood. Hamas used to be part of that org and broke off in the 50's. So with the secular govt in egypt gone and soon to be replaced by an islamic regime it will be same ole same ole, only worse.
What eventually will happen is the countries that have gone with an islamic govt will become a mess as we see things, however, they will be walking with the koran, loving every minute. Iran at some time will flex their muscles and probably will try to have the caliph reinstated in iran as the head of the middle east. then it will get stupid. Moslems are having more children in the EU where they have moved than the nationals. Eventually they will also want an islamic regime and will get it by popular vote. Probably 50 or 100 years away. We do have one ace in the hole, the differant sects love to fight each other over points. Like the caliph has got to be a decendant of moHAMed or he can be anyone. This is just one reason of many that the shiites and sunnis bomb each other.
Welcome to the new world order.
Piggy sounds like Neville Chamberlin. Peace in our time. Pigs get slaughtered.
So now this terrorist group is getting another 20 F16 and billions of aid from us. Why doesn't the president just start sending money to all our enemies (oops, he already is). Looks like this Arab spring did not work out so well for us, but the administration knew that with the power vacuum these terrorist would step in and seize power, but for all we know this is exactly what they wanted.
Sure looks that way.
The rest of the world is moving forward, certainly there are problems with some of the forward motion, but Islam is regressing back to the dark ages. For them the year is 900 a.d. and regressing with modern weapons, and they had been doing so well until a couple of hundred years ago. Lack of education, or a close minded, limited, controlled conservative theocratic education will get you there.
@ Tbenton,
Arab spring has almost nothing to do with the current administration. Sad truth is that we've had the same foreign policy for decades. They were just following it. We likely would have done more or less the same thing had it been Bush, Clinton, or even Reagen. That's just the way our faulty foreign policy is, and has been for a long time.
Religion is opium of masses.
But Sunni Islamic extremism of Saudi variety is self-destroying drug addiction.
Those addicted with it destory anyone going near them. If no one is near, high dosage Sunni drug addiction destroys themselves!
Sunni extremist Islamists, Morsi and his Muslim Bloodhounds, Salaffi and other labels will destroy sane Muslims, Christians, females first!
Israel better remember 1967 war!
Israel has not forgotten 48, 67, or 73, nor has Netanyahu forgotten Entebbe in 1976
I'm sure the Muslime hood will pass zero tolerance "gun control laws"! Let me know how that works out for the Ladies, little girls,Christians, Jews, & whoever doesn't bow to allah!
American tourism will never recover in Egypt now. I worry for the Egyptian artifacts, remember the Buddha statues in Afghanistan and the tombs in Timbuktu. Can the Pyramids survive Sunni Islam?
Eric- NY
You are so ignorant. Sunni islam has been in Egypt since the 3rd Kaliph of Islam (omar ibn kathab in 632 AD. people were more religious and adhered to islamic laws more than other anytime YET THEY NEVER resorted to such destructive acts. learn about islam and its positive contrubution to the world. dont let hate blind you.
Problem is it's positive contribution seems to be a thing of the past, we can't go by what was, we have to go by what is.
And you expect respect for the rights of others under Morsi??? Respect and peace for who??? Women, minorities???
If hatred, persecution and inequality is too different for some Americans to stomach, sign me up!!!
parkerjoe, sounds like you are comparing your own hatred of Israel. Take your own advice and unload your ignorance.
The Muslim brotherhood is an Isalmic terrorist group. They were rightly imprisoned during Mubarek and before. This Islamist regime isn´t even bothering much to hide its devil´s tail now.And Morsi rigged all the elections he´s been involved in.Let´s hope he´s overthrown soon and non terrorist secularists ans pluralists take charge. An Iranian style government imn Egypt is not impossible. The military in Egypt should act now in tthe name of all Egyptians and take over the country and imprison the Brotherhood for being traitors,Sounds radical? Well when the Brotherhood consolidates power it will be much worse than any of the garden variety dictators like Mubarek. For the good of Egypt, the region and the whole world ,get rid of this mafia,Isalmic terrorist regimen of the Brotherhod. And soon! And in other countries like the U.S Europe etc, there is enough proof to ban them as a terrorist group.Or do we need to have our noses rubbed into it too?
Dark days, dark days indeed... where sharia law abides women remain slaves and ignorance prevails *sighs* :(
The Muslim Brotherhood took some notes from the Chicago brotherhood. No wonder Obama has their back.
Hessy, you said
But you either don't know what you are talking about or you are one of those Islamist apologist, here's a translation of what a Jihady, Morgan Salem ElGohery, (Google literal translation of the name messed it up) who took part of destroying the Buddha's statutes saying that he is planning to demolish the Sphinx and the Pyramids, and when the TV interviewer asked him how come the Muslims did not do that when they entered Egypt, his answer was that they did not have rockets and tanks.
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ar&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.israj.net%2Farabic%2Findex.php%2F2011-05-14-07-25-55%2F2011-05-14-07-26-47%2F2011-05-15-00-16-17%2F6113-q-q
Did anybody expect anything else from those scum-bags?
63.8% yes means the Country said yes. We need to stop wanting the rest of the world to be like us and learn how to make them our business partners. When I was there they loved American shows and products, now they watch oriental daily shows and most of there businesses have offices in the far east! If they don't buy our products, we will be out of a job. Unless of course you think Europe is enough for you to survive.
Many nations like Egypt get huge tax payers' monies as economic assistance.
What business will you do when a nation become dirtiest swamp like Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and other Muslim basket case nations?
""They (Islamists) are ruling the country, running the vote and influencing the people, so what else could we expect," the senior official from the main opposition coalition, the National Salvation Front, told Reuters."
In election results, Hosni Mubarak was doing better.
The Muslim Bloodhounds claim of votes are no where near Hosni Mubarak's wins!
Jonathan, We hated the Indians in this country and then changed to blacks. You sound like the KKK all over again. All Muslims are not bad. The Muslim brotherhood was started in 1928 and was against the dictators in power. They helped the poor just like Christians do. No one on the net even heard of the brotherhood until they over through Mubarak. Stop your hate Jonathan and quit spreading your hasbara.
@ parkerjoe,
What is it with you and the KKK? That's irrelevant to the page. So why keep bringing it up? No one said all Muslims were bad. But you sound as if you would have us believe that NO self proclaimed Muslim are bad. Muslim Extremist Terrorists are a serious problem you know, particularly in that part of the world. Again, even Russia has the Muslim Brotherhood on their terrorist list. And Russia is allies with Iran. Tell me, do you love the Jews as much as you love the Muslims? Or are you just a bitter hypocrite?
Looking over parkerjoe's comments he appears to be an Anti Semitic, probably Islamist, I doubt he lives in the USA, and is probably using the KKK because it is the only US hate group he knows of thus using it for comparison and deflection. Note: use of the word Hasbara
Hopefully our aid will be coming to an end, it will no longer be used for anything other than wealth for the dictator Morsi and to attack Israel, and before you start spouting off parkerjoe I am a Zionist and damn proud of it. Theodor Herzl was a great man.
ParkerJoe,,
What did you do, just rewrite the history of this terrorist group so you could justify this administrations backing of them. All aid both military and humanitarian should have been pulled the second they stepped into office. While we do not have the right to dictate who a country votes into power, we do have the right to decide if they deserve our money or not. If you vote into power a terrorist group then all money should be pulled. Instead this administration has shown that they will give money to Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and other Muslim Terrorist groups regardless of if their goals are in direct conflict with ours or not. But then you idiots voted this president in so you deserve the results of his ineptitude.
Tbenton
While I agree with most of your post, I did vote for Obama, not because he is so great, he was the better of two really piss poor, horrible choices. It was a choice between two huge piles of excrement. I doubt Romney would have done anything different on this front, sale/giving of weapons to Egypt would help his buddies in the MIC so he would likely have done the same.
The real power in Egypt lies with the military which has largely stayed out of the political conflict, I believe they will ultimately decide how Egypt goes, the military is controlled mostly by Mubarak's generals who tend to be more secular, however defections could undermine the military.
They Voted for Extremists in Egypt and so I say let them Stew in their own Juices. The Billions we give Egypt would go a Very long way in putting Armed Security in our schools. The Hell with Egypt and the rest of the Muslim countries. They will kill each other off eventually if we stay out of the way. Why our leaders are Always Meddling in other countries affairs is beyond me.
God of Fate, if you've seen parkerjoe's posts on other articles, sometimes he sounds like a Christian and sometimes he sounds like a muslim. The only subject where he is consistent is in his hatred of Israel. I've asked him numerous times to explain but he doesn't bother to respond. Troll might be an explanation.
These fraudulent votes included those of children they allowed to vote. It's a sham and the world knows it. It's a sad day and many more to come for the women and Christians.
one tyranny out, another tyranny in ... they call it history
"Mursi's Islamist backers say the constitution is vital for the transition to democracy"
It will be transition to Saudi Arabian style democracy, where liberal Muslims, females, Christians and other minority Muslim sects people are treated worse than slaves.
It will be bad for Jews of Israel. Jewish lobby of Israel in the US should wake up and see that Morsi and co are kicked out right away.
Egyptians should kick out these hating and killing Islamic extremists before it is too late.
Army should step in and jail these Islamic mad nut cases!
At least the old tyranny wasn't the Muslim Brotherhood. In what was already the most unstable region on earth, as well as the area where most of these Muslim extremist terrorists come from. I'll give you three free guesses as to where a government run by the "Muslim Brotherhood" is probably headed. It's a shame so many dirt bag terrorists hide their prejudice and savage murderous ways behind a relatively popular religion, particularly in the area. And it's a shame they'll likely have a government in Egypt that at least sympathizes with their despicable "cause" of sorts.
God Of Fate, can you give me one thing that proves the Muslim brotherhood are terrorist? I didn't think so. Stop the propaganda. Israel started the unrest in the middle east. They have attacked Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and Palestine. Now they want to attack Iran. They have stolen land from all these countries. The Sinai in Egypt, the Jordan Valley,Southern Lebanon, The Golan Heights in Syria and the west bank and East Jerusalem in Palestine. Why do you think these countries hate them? Read "IF Americans Only Knew" to find out the truth about Israel.
Can you give me one thing that proves they aren't? Even Russia, who is allies with Iran of all countries, considered the Muslim Brotherhood organization a terrorist organization. And Morsi was the first one to declare himself a Pharaoh in how long? Even if it is supposedly only temporary, it is still a power grab. If you can't see the direction this is headed you are either blind, ignorant, or one of them.
Btw, Israel never started the unreast. Maybe you are late to the history books, but there has been unrest in that region for thousands of years. Actually, most of the more modern conflict started with the fall of the Ottomon empire, where the countries and factions simply warred amongst themselves. The fact that you blame Israel for conflict in a region that has been there long before Israel was established shows how little you truly know.
Should read, Israel has defended themselves from attacks by Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and Palestine(really the East Bank in Jordan, but even Jordan doesn't want the Palestinians). Now they want to defend themselves from a nuclear attack by Iran. The Sinai in Egypt, the Jordan Valley,Southern Lebanon, The Golan Heights in Syria and the west bank and East Jerusalem are the spoils of war, captured in defense of cowardly attacks by these countries especially the 73 Yom Kippur war where Israel was attacked on Judaism's Highest Holiest day, an act the US or Israel would never consider. Israel has returned some of the lands in peace negotiation's. The whole of Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and there is no partner for peace in Palestine.
@ parker the sinai is and always will be egyptian land I get what your aiming at but that is just one little thing that ticks me off as an egyptian.
ur right atarx but why do you blame U.S & EUROPE, we actually help them, we need to get the h#!! out of the middleeast and let them stay in the stone ages and kill eachother, its very hard allmost impossible to change a radical muslim which 99.9% are radical,we need to bring all of our men & women home and stop all the aid to all of the middleeast, people have to understand there way of thinking which they hate all Americans & Europeans, when people say there is some conservative muslims show me where, when that vedeo was posted on yutube the anti mohumad cockran/koran vedeo, how come all the muslims in the world stood up together and tryed burning down anything American, not one when people say a conservative muslim' came forward to condem all of the protests and burning of our embasies, after everything was torched' then you had some muslims from there goverment' say on there tv networks' over there' to stop any burning of our flag and buildings, so again that we can think that the conservative muslims are on our side, and are against any violent acts against the U.S.A, which i think is bull! they only do that so the aid keeps comeing in from our stupid goverment, that guy that did that vedeo was one of there own but a christain from egypt, again if you wanna talk about conservative people YES there is in egypt, its the egyptain christains, not the muslims egyptains,we have so much oil in the U.S.A & CANADA, where we dont need to kiss there a$$ over in the middleeast, why dont people think' we would of allready been involved in syria if there was oil there,as much as all those countrys hate us' we dont really give a fu#k! were there for the oil' and one day were gunna suck all of the oil out of the middleeast' where we have no need to be there anymore' there gunna have to buy it from us, that might not happen for another 200 years but one day it will hopefully
Ironically in 21st century, the Sunni Islamic madness is reaching to intolerable and crazy levels all over the world.
Don't trust a word of what these seventh century hating and killing Sunni Islamic religious Nazis say.
In Egypt, the Sunni extremists with labels like Salaffi and MB (Muslim Bloodhounds) are opening up new chapters of Islamic bigotry. Morsi is just a front for them.
Just watch the fate of Christians, women and Israel as the time goes by.
Followers of Islamic cult, especially House of Saud and other Sunni ME rulers inspired and funded Sunni Islamic radicals and militants (al-Qaida, Salaffi, Wahhabi, MB, Taliban and other label ones), are fast marching backwards to their seventh century desert tribal days.
They are indulging in rapings, lootings, killings and genocides of non-Muslims (Darfur, S. Sudan, Nigeria and spreading like wild fire in many regions and Muslims (Libya, Yemen, Mali, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and other places).
Even in Syria, if Assad is overthrown by Sunni Islamic religious Nazis like al-Qaida, MB, the conditions of Christians will be unbearable just like Iraq.
Pakis and Sunni rulers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE and other Sunni Arab League nations are responsible for 80 percent of world problems including economic ones. Examine the devastations with Iraqi wars and now sanctions on Iranian oil and the resultant oil price manipulations.
They are making the lives of their own people also miserable by their Islamic religious madness to the intolerable levels.
Are we not committing hara-kiri by supporting our enemies and killers?
Our mistake was that once we got involved, we should have seen it through all the way. At least to make sure the Egyptians had a choice that wasn't the Muslim Brotherhood or Mubarak's remnants. I'm not saying we would have chose it for them. But we had to make sure they had better options to choose from. As usual, we didn't want to offend anyone so we stopped before the job was actually done. That's where we went wrong.
God Of Fate, who are we to get involved in another countries elections? Is that democracy? Netanyhoo tried to get into our Presidential elections and now he's going to pay the price. You said a country should separate religion from politics yet Palestine recognized Israel as a state but Israel says they want them to recognize them as a Jewish state. Why? Because under international law the Palestinians have the right of return, but if they are not Jewish they lose that right.Israel is the real terrorist state.
First of all, Israel and Palestine had nothing to do with what I said. The fact that you keep painting Israel as the bad guy when most Muslim run countries still refuse to acknowledge Israel's right to exist, and when extremist launch rockets over the border to instigate these conflicts every so often, shows how little you know about the situation over their and/or how biased you are against them. And the fact that it wasn't even relevant and you brought it up anyway, yeah just give it a rest.
You really think Egypt was stable enough to do have fair elections on their own? No, the only two powers in opposition to make a run were the remains of the old regime under Mubarak, and the Muslim Brotherhood. So the choice was either Mubarak's remnants (they just had a revolution and overthrew them) or have one religion rule a country in a region that desperately needs religious freedom/tolerance. In case you didn't realize, many people in Egypt were unhappy with their choices. But one of the two had to win, and obviously it would be the one they didn't just rebel against.
All I was saying here was that we should have allowed their people better options to choose from. We wouldn't decide the elections for Egypt. But it wasn't exactly a great situation for them. Since we already got involved, we should have finished the job and stayed to make sure they were better off. Now it's still a mess. That's all.
* only two power to in a position to make a run.
Sorry...
What Palestine? the arabs in the area started using the word Palestine and Palestinian in 1966. the Palestinians recognized Israel? Where do you get your information. The bylaws of Hamas and the PLO call for the destruction of Israel and the Jews.
The arabs want the right to return? Why did they leave? They left in 1948 when Syria, Transjordan, Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon attacked at the request of the listed countries so there would only be Jewish targets and when all the Jews were killed they could return and take the Jewish property. Course there was only 600,000 that left.
Oslo accords. Does not exist. Israel approved it. The PLO parlament did not.
Israel gave up the gaza strip and moved all Jewish residents out. Maybe the gaza arabs Hamas could actually have a real country mand not a world welfare state.
Good post, you got it exactly right.
musician by night speaks the truth, well said.
Palestenians need to have homeland in vast Saudi Arabia.
Hamas, more extreme haters and killers should have Mecca as the capital. Fatah should have Median as its capital!
Hope Saudi Arabia will be gracious enough to permit them.
Even Muslims in Israel should move to their homeland. So everyone is happy.
Saudi Arabia should be happier that they will have more population for their Salaffi and Wahhabi hating and killing gangs.
"It says the principles of Islamist sharia law remain the main source of legislation". I don't know the specifics of the new constitution, but sharia law does not bode well as a positive direction based on its interpretation in other countries. We should be glad that we live not there but in the U.S. or in some other non-Islamic state.
If the referendum truly reflects the will of the majority of the citizens, do they understand what they have dished out for themselves?
Egyptian women should greet their husbands at the door with a very sharp, thin knife. Good bye Abu Figbar!
Well sh**. That stinks. Major loss for the non-Muslim males in Egypt. And major headache for us and the rest of the world. A Muslim run government in the middle east is that much more likely to at the very least turn a blind eye to the radicalism from certain groups of extremists in the region. I don't care if they are Muslim, so long as they don't mix it with the governments and don't use it as an excuse for radical fundamentalism or supporting it. The two things the middle east needs most are religious freedom/tolerance and woman's rights. Never have I heard of a Muslim run government where those things are even close to priorities. I don't expect the Muslim Brotherhood (not sisterhood but Brotherhood. Sorry women.) and Morsi (the first one to declare himself Pharaoh in how long? Even if only temporarily...) to be the first.
Good luck Egypt you will need it your neighborhood is a hot one.
Right next door is Izrael that has no constitution and no official borders either.
Notice JP that no one said anything about Muslims until the eastern European imposter's that call themselves Jews came to this part of the world? Jews were a minority in Palestine and they got along fine with the Arabs until these imposter's showed up. Rev.2-9 Beware of the man calling himself a Jew who is not a Jew, satan has his synagogue. If Israel would give the Palestinians a state all these problems would go away. Can't wait to see Israel at the international court and be tried for the murdering thieves they are. And how dare anyone criticizing these countries when ours is at the bottom of the barrel. We kick God out of our schools and then ask Him to bless these poor little children shot by a mad man. Quit trying to take that speck out of their eye when we have a log in ours.
Don't blame the Jews, they are the ones who the Muslim extremists still refuse their (the Jew's) right to exist. At least the Jews try to make peace, before some dirt bag terrorist organization launches rockets over the border or something. Then it's just self defense. Israel already tried giving Palestine a state, and they were attacked for it. They tried giving them a second chance by giving up some territory to Palestine in the name of peace. And... Hamas launches rockets over the border. Again. Maybe if they would actually try to strive for the peace you all so claim they desire, not launch rockets over the border every so often, and acknowledge Israel's right to exist, then maybe the rest of the world might consider looking at Palestine a little more seriously. But until then, your just a bitter hypocrite like the rest of them.
Mr parkerjoe56, If we bring God back into the schools, does that mean we bring in the Bible, the Koran and the Tora and the teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism? I'm not sure how that would work.
Uh, parkerjoe...the so called Palestinians have had a chance to have a "state" for a long time now. Instead, they have used the land as a launching pad for rockets. Wake up and grow up.
Rex, the bible mentions Palestine. Israel has never given a fair offer to them. They kept all water rights on the Palestinian land and want control of the sea, airports and roads. Hezbollah was started in 1982 when General Sharon went in to Lebanon and wiped out two Palestinian refugee camps. He slaughtered thousands and mostly women and children. Hezbollah promised this would never happen again. Hamas was started by the Israeli Mossad to go against Arafat and the PLO. One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. Prior to the last invasion of Gaza, Israel shot and killed two 12 year olds playing soccer. Then they assasinated a Hamas leader and wonder why they shoot rockets at them. Read more than the Jewish press.
Book, chapter and verse please.

parkerjoe accidentally reveals himself and his location
Implying he is in the US and an American, but then through a slip on the keyboard he gets out of character
How can he claim our Presidential elections at the same time he claims this part of the world. If he was in the US it would be that part of the world.
Given a choice these fools vote in their own oppression.
The tyranny of the majority.
What friend will we shy away from backing next? The King of Jordan? In the name of democracy? Disgusting.
its tyranny when the outcome is not in your favor. predictable.
"[edit] Major US policy shift in August 2010"
"In 2010 US President Barack Obama made a major, but unannounced foreign policy shift regarding the relations to the states of the Arab world. Instead of supporting stability Barack Obama vowed to support change and democratisation in the Arab world. David Ignatius reported that Obama placed a big bet that democratic governments will be more stable and secure, and thereby enhance U.S. interests in the region. In August 2010 US President Barack Obama issued the secret Presidential Study Directive 11, asking agencies to prepare for change. The directive cited "evidence of growing citizen discontent with the region's regimes," warned that "the region is entering a critical period of transition" and asked the advisers of the US President to "manage these risks by demonstrating to the people of the Middle East and North Africa the gradual but real prospect of greater political openness and improved governance."[69]
Obama's thumb prints are all over the Arab Spring. So far, his new policy has cost the Middle East people 50,000 lives and it ain't over yet.
The radical muslims have been here since "charles the hammer" in 732AD and he fought them and get their butts out of france. They were not wanted then and not wanted now with their crazy hatefilled ideas. More turoil for Egypt and the rest of the Muslims countries.
We give Egypt $1 Billion dollars a year and sometime more, stop the foreign aid completely, it will only be used against the United States. woman and female children. Keep that money home for social security.
Foreign aid is the means that the US govt supports defense contractors. the money is sent overseas in the form of planes, tanks, rifles and bullets. Next time you see pictures of the egyptian army check out the gear. Russian and American. In some instances they do build infrastructure, but we dont give them a check. Other western countries do the same. Note the list below. American, French, German etc.
315 M–1A2 Abrams, 290 AMX–30, and 450 M60A3 main battle tanks; 300 reconnaissance vehicles; 570+ AMX–10P and 400 M–2 Bradley armored infantry fighting vehicles; 3,000+ M113 and 100 Al-Fahd armored personnel carriers, produced in Saudi Arabia; 200+ towed artillery pieces; 110 self-propelled artillery pieces; 60 multiple rocket launchers; 400 mortars; 10 surface-to-surface missiles; about 2,000 antitank guided weapons; about 200 rocket launchers; 450 recoilless launchers; 12 attack helicopters; 50+ transport helicopters; and 1,000 surface-to-air missiles.[5] In 2011, the Saudi-Arabian army has furthermore ordered 200+ German Leopard 2A7+ main battle tanks to extend their fleet.
the good news is we dont have the money for this anymore and the depression is about to hit. This year its cuts or higher taxes. $660 more for every $10,000 you make. Good luck with H&R block.
Boy, is this a surprise. Now Egypt can be just like Iran.
What we must find out is if the majority of Egyptian people have just voted on a need for a constitution to move forward in building their government. Or did they vote as informed Egyptian citizens on the contents of what is in or not in the constitution? Or more likely did they vote mainly Islam verses non Islam?
To many Egyptians that still means old Mubarak rules or new MB Islamic principles. Even the moderate muslims, if there is such, are going to soon find out that the MB may be Islamic, it is not the Islamic pride of victory any of them have in mind, and certainly does not have theirs or Egypts best interest in mind.
Was this vote again nothing more than the facts of law being withheld from the populace and the people continuing their intolerant behavior in a country with an Islamic majority? Voting for and in the name of Islam rather than the way their new Islamic majority rule will be executed in forming and governing their country?
Lets hope we see the day come when many, uninformed Egyptians, wake up in the morning to say ''what, I voted for what'' shocked at who they gave control over their lives to and what kind of government they gave authority to, just because they wear the Islamic name.
The sooner this constitution is made completely public. The sooner we will all know if it is the intolerant piece of Islamic injustice it is believed to be. Then if the people of Egypt still accept it we can truly treat Egypt as an abomination to freedom, enemy to the free world.
While I have always known, but still hate, some foreign aid is necessary for trade. We can not and must not support Egypt, in any aid. We can not allow our government to foolishly continue to support Egypt for the border peace treaty with Israel. It is nothing but a tool of blackmail long ago out dated in any need as protection for Israel.
We must stop our government, no matter the excuse they give for aiding Egypt, it is aiding the growth of Islam. Even if it means some inside Egypt will suffer. Egypt as an intolerable Islamic society, either they survive on their own or whiter into the dust, as they will so deserve.
As an enemy of freedom we can not allow our government to help keep their government functioning. Trade yes if necessary, aid for trade absolutely not, medical aid, sorry no. If Islam is to survive as a religion governing countries, providing for its people, then they better learn to do it on their own. Or shame on the greed of the free world, it will be us in the dust, as we'll so deserve.
Religion of piece my big ole hairy ass! Muslims rape little boys and little girls. They stone women for being raped and right in their POS Korans call for death to all infidels. Yes I have read a Koran, right before I pissed on it and burned it. If anyone does not like it then you have my name. Come and get me. LOL Yes I don't hide behind a keyboard like most on here. Bunch of cowards, post your names for all to see.
If you dont like muslims then why get a koran? you dont see me defacing a bible or torah and that is out of respect for people of the book. your hate amuses me johnny.
Ummmmm, to learn, enlightenment, study the ideology and thought of your enemy, this way you don't underestimate and do understand what you may be fighting. Although i don't agree with defacing or destroying any book even if you don't agree with it, and that is all it is, a book, paper with printed words, its the thought and ideas within that give it its power credibility or lack thereof.
So the Extremeist Islamist won the Vote. Good. Now can we STOP sending OUR TAX DOLLARS to the Islamists??? There is No Damned reason to send Billions to a country that Hates the U.S. Wake the HELL UP Washington. The Muslims in Egypt Voted for a Foot on their neck and now they have it, so let them Suffer their Fate without our help.
If you think this referendum was fair and honest, then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. Islamic extremists are waging wars of aggression around the globe for world domination and to eliminate all religions other than their perverted version of Islam. They will also use the apparatus of democracy to take power when they have the opportunity. It's the old "one man, one vote, one time" scheme. Once Moslem extremists take over they will never step down peacefully.
Good to see you again dougmiller. Doug is paid to be on the net to change public opinon. Israel spends 46 million a year on this.
It's their country, Their problem, NOT Ours. Unless of course Our Government lets so many Muslims into OUR country that it becomes a Problem for us here at home. During the second world war we wouldn't let a German or Japanese into the country because we were at War with them. But today we let a Potential Enemy in every day of the week. Not Smart on our part.
The US will soon have the same problems that France and the UK have- a muslim population that is so large that you must win the muslim vote to win any office.
Wish I could say the same for you.
If that's the case, then he's underpaid.
How would you know??? Is this the best you can come up with, pj??? Lame...
Way to go USA. A new ruling party that hates the US put into power by the USA! Tie to cut all ties (and funding) to Egypt and let them go on their merry way of trampling women and all other religions! Good Job USA!
burka time ladies
Obama Unintended consequences "maybe"
Now that the constitution has been approved, we can all get rich. Let's head over and open a store that sells head coverings since it will now be required. Machetes will be very useful to punish those who don't obey Islamic law. We can even sell bandages now that wife beating will be legal. Anti-Israel posters anyone? They will be needed during the weekly anti-Zionist rants.
Gotta love those Islamics!
Americans are notorious hypocrites. This is not about the Muslim brotherhood or anyone else. Its about the EGYPTIAN PEOPLE. The EGYPTIAN PEOPLE sent a loud and clear message to the biased and hateful US media, PEOPLE AND gOv that they support their gov. Leave them alone
This is democracy at work. More power to president Morsi.
If you really believe that crap, I have a bridge that I would like to sell you.
you are obviously not one of the many women being gang-raped by proud patriotic egyptians or you would be singing a different tune... of course I could care less, your whole disgusting civilization should be allowed to burn, rape and murder itself into oblivion which is apparently what it wants to do anyway
Where you expecting anything else? The days of the possibility to have an 'Honest' election is just a dream....even in a 'Free' Nation like America!
this like the last one is a bogus vote! they are perpetrating robbery on the egyptian people under obama's watchful eye!just like iran's. they counted all those votes so fast? its funny,we don't even count them so fast!
LOL- the Egyptians voted freely and democratically to approve the constitution. Wheres the robbery? in your twisted mind, perhaps??
hessy? is your family being held hostage and threatened with death if you don't get on msn and build up "egyptian democracy"? I'm sure there's some amnesty international fruitbat organization that can help you out. the only other alternative is that you are a cowardly islamist woman-raper who approves of horrific and hellish behavior, in that case suck a pig's dong and die you piece of trash
