Subscribe to RSSKHOST, Afghanistan -- A suicide bomber killed three people in an attack on a U.S. base in Afghanistan on Wednesday, the same base that is believed to be used by the CIA and which a suicide bomber attacked three years ago killing seven CIA employees.
The Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in the eastern town of Khost, saying they had sent a suicide bomber driving a van packed with explosives to the base.
"The target was those who serve Americans at that base," said Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
Afghanistan's NATO-led force said the bomber did not get into the base nor breach its perimeter. Police said the three dead were Afghans who were outside the base, which is beside a military airport.
The al Qaida-linked Haqqani network, widely regarded as the most dangerous U.S. foe in Afghanistan, is active in Khost province, which is on the Pakistani border.
After more than a decade of war, Taliban insurgents are still able to strike strategic military targets, and launch high-profile attacks in the capital, Kabul, and elsewhere.
Three years ago, an al Qaida-linked Jordanian double-agent killed seven CIA employees and a Jordanian intelligence officer in a suicide bombing at the same base in Khost, known as Forward Operating Base Chapman.
It was the second deadliest attack in CIA history.
Afghan police official General Abdul Qasim Baqizoy, the Khost police chief, said no CIA agents were hurt on Wednesday.
Afghan authorities are scrambling to improve security across the country before the U.S. combat mission ends in 2014.
Besides pressure from the Taliban, U.S.-led NATO forces also face a rising number of so-called insider attacks, in which Afghan forces turn their weapons on Western troops they are supposed to be working with.
On Monday, an Afghan policewoman killed a U.S. police adviser at the Kabul police headquarters, raising troubling questions about the direction of the war.
It appeared to be the first time that a woman member of Afghanistan's security forces carried out such an attack.
On Tuesday, Afghan officials said the woman has an Iranian passport and moved to Afghanistan 10 years ago. There was no suggestion that Iran was involved in the attack on the American.
Officials suspect she may have been recruited by al Qaida or the Taliban, and had intended to also kill Afghan police officials.

This bomber was a woman however.

The promise of 13 virgins is most likely just a myth. It is based on a Hadith that is regarded as suspect by most Muslims. As for the use of suicide against the enemy, it's not a practice peculiar to Muslims. It goes back as far as 11th. century India. In modern times, probably the first act of suicide bombing was against Tsar Alexander II of Russia by a Nihilist group in 1881. And don't forget the famous Japanese use of suicide bombing with their Kamikaze pilots in WWII. It seems crazy, I know, but it is a practice that has often been used historically by a smaller force to fight a larger army. People are just crazy, I guess.

In Syria Russia is attacking Muslims and In Burma, China is killing them off by the village and in Pakistan and Afghanistan the Americans are attacking them and Isreal is always attacking any Palestinian organization which opposes them and doesn't exept their rule or ways of life.... They all are clubbing the Muslims back into a corner and when they have had enough they will come out fighting for real, until that day we will have the terrorist attacks which we see hit the news almost daily....

You'll not find any evidence of the trafficking itself, but you will find proof that it exsist through small searches like this.... Any serious observer of Middle Eastern history can lay out a time line when the fighting was merely Christian versus Muslim or Muslim versus Muslim. Then when oil was discovered and the Western powers wanted that oil, it became a factor. Finally with the partition of Palestine in 1949 the third ingredent is added.
But Muslims have been fighting Muslims since the 17th century.

In Afghanistan, Pakis have backstabbed the US and NATO forces big time. Half of NATO forces deaths are due to ungrateful and backstabbing Pakis.
When the NATO forces were entering Kandahar in 2001, Pakis airlifted key al-Qaida, Taliban, ISI and others militants by back door from Kandahar.
This includes Mullah Omar, Osama and many including Paki Haqqani militant network leaders.

this is just another example of the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" method of foreign relations. At that time, we latched on to the "freedom fighters" to keep from having to put more U.S. troops on the ground. And now we have had to put more troops on the ground to fight them.
Ten long years and many lost sons and daughters later, what have we accomplished there except to leave a trail of our dead. The Taliban are just showing us that it doesn't matter and as soon as our troops are totally pulled out they will just waltz back in and take over. Of course we will leave diplomats there and they will be in danger and any other Americans more than likely over there for profits. That whole area is not worth a damn, including Pakistan. Get out of the area totally, let them have their tribal wars like they have had for century's and refuse them visas etc to come here. They want to blow themselves up go for it. The countries that surround them should beef up their borders and all other countries should not allow them travel. They want their warring bullcrap let them have it on theirselves. US interventionism in Afghanistan CREATED Bin Laden - trained, equipped, and financed by the CIA . And mind you... Russians were invited into Afghanistan by a democratically elected government of that country. It was not an invasion, like ours was.
Where did that get the Soviet Union Max? Our mistake was we seem to have forgotten that no country has ever successfully occupied Afghanistan. I am sure Putin find our stupidity in repeating the Soviet Union's same mistake very amusing and is hoping for the same outcome. Hell, he is probably is probably providing them with arms just like we did to the Soviet Union! Let them all kill each other! Bring our troops home and use the billions we are wasting here where it belongs.
Actually Putin made an excellent comment at the time of US invasion of Afghanistan, promising Americans not to meddle in their adventure, unlike what US has done in the past for Russia. All these irresponsible wars are simply created to feed the monster plant of US military industrial complex. We are the worst warmongers in the world, pissing away close to a trillion dollars a year on 'defense' (it is actually always 'offense').
A couple of thoughts...I love Ronnie...but my how times have changed. Also, I will never believe that all wars are for the benefit of large greedy corporations, but having said that, I firmly believe that the minute we leave Afghanistan, it will turn right back into a complete cesspool of Taliban control. They will continue to pick and pick at us with attacks on our interests abroad and on US soil until they finally succeed with an attack large enough that the citizens of this country will be begging our leaders to finally fight a war using our full technology and fire power. The taliban banned heroin production when they took over. Once we moved in and pushed them out of some areas the poppy fields were tended again. I hate the taliban but I also hate drugs too. Unfortunately it is one of the few sources of income over there so it is very tempting to become a farmer of it.
