Subscribe to RSSKHOST, Afghanistan -- A suicide bomber killed three people in an attack on a U.S. base in Afghanistan on Wednesday, the same base that is believed to be used by the CIA and which a suicide bomber attacked three years ago killing seven CIA employees.
The Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in the eastern town of Khost, saying they had sent a suicide bomber driving a van packed with explosives to the base.
"The target was those who serve Americans at that base," said Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
Afghanistan's NATO-led force said the bomber did not get into the base nor breach its perimeter. Police said the three dead were Afghans who were outside the base, which is beside a military airport.
The al Qaida-linked Haqqani network, widely regarded as the most dangerous U.S. foe in Afghanistan, is active in Khost province, which is on the Pakistani border.
After more than a decade of war, Taliban insurgents are still able to strike strategic military targets, and launch high-profile attacks in the capital, Kabul, and elsewhere.
Three years ago, an al Qaida-linked Jordanian double-agent killed seven CIA employees and a Jordanian intelligence officer in a suicide bombing at the same base in Khost, known as Forward Operating Base Chapman.
It was the second deadliest attack in CIA history.
Afghan police official General Abdul Qasim Baqizoy, the Khost police chief, said no CIA agents were hurt on Wednesday.
Afghan authorities are scrambling to improve security across the country before the U.S. combat mission ends in 2014.
Besides pressure from the Taliban, U.S.-led NATO forces also face a rising number of so-called insider attacks, in which Afghan forces turn their weapons on Western troops they are supposed to be working with.
On Monday, an Afghan policewoman killed a U.S. police adviser at the Kabul police headquarters, raising troubling questions about the direction of the war.
It appeared to be the first time that a woman member of Afghanistan's security forces carried out such an attack.
On Tuesday, Afghan officials said the woman has an Iranian passport and moved to Afghanistan 10 years ago. There was no suggestion that Iran was involved in the attack on the American.
Officials suspect she may have been recruited by al Qaida or the Taliban, and had intended to also kill Afghan police officials.

In Syria Most of the rebels are al-Qaida. Over 80% of rebel forces are foreign jihadist most being trained in Saudi Arabia and Turkey key entry points for al-Qaida to infiltrate Syria.
Benghazi loss of life and the murder was because Syrian Rebels were smuggled into Syria 20,000 heat seeking shoulder held rockets. Most of which fell into the hands of the Foreign Rebel fighters hands which many are al-Qaida.

For now you need to get your sheet straight. Al qaeda offered they help to the rebels and they were turned away by the rebels. When you invite/join AQ it's a for life thing and the rebels want no part of that, the price is to high.

@commander 11, you need to call yourself private 11. First of all the Taliban invaded a society, The Afghans, and took them over and forced them to do things their way. They are a offspring from the Mihajeen and so isn't Al Qaeda, Bin Ladens group of followers. this how they were allowed to have a base in Afghanistan and not be monopilized by the Taliban. We had asked the Taliban to turn Bin Laden over on more that one occasion but they refused. So we went after Bin Laden after 9/11 and the Taliban were just in the way. We did the Afghans a favor by moving the Taliban out of the way. Now when we leave can Afghanistan keep the Taliban out? If the Taliban gets back in charge of Afghanistan, I'm sure the Afghans will pay dearly. That is Afghanistan in a nut shell. I don't see how almost all of these people here get anything done, they go through so much junk you make something simple complicated.

The Muslim concept of martyrdom is hypocritical: It is one thing to advance a cause through personal sacrifice; it is quite another to take out innocent people in the process. There is nothing heroic, brave, saintly, or any other word that they "laud" upon themselves. It is time for the U.S. to cut back all money from those countries, pull back all military support, and just leave them to themselves. They have never and will never come into this century with their thinking and beliefs. Hell, we can't even get our political parties to compromise and "grow up" so what makes us think that we can ever change those people to respect the rights of women, children, other religions, etc. Islam seems to be a belief that refuses to recognize the existence of any other belief or principle. Stop supporting them - we need the money here.

Look at history. They, including ANY irrational cultures based upon faulty ideologies, have left destruction in there wake. There are many examples of dumb and evil human behaviors, especially the overzealous Christians, and including really stupid people who devalue human life. In the US, those stupid people now include overzealous animal rights scum who walk past a human in need, while giving misplaced affection and resources to dogs and cats. So, the best choice among really bad choices, is to create a framework that advances humanity, adds the voice of each and every individual, protects the rights of individuals, and advances science and humanity. The "West" provides the best framework so far--albeit not perfect. When money and innovation ceases to be our focal point in society, guns, hate, religion, indifference, graft, and extreme ideologies will dominate.

I am a culturally sensitive and tolerant person; however, the insertion of extreme dress and behavior that significantly deviates from US norms is problematic. When I visit cities around the US and observe individuals, who are repressed/oppressed beyond and rationalization, wear black from head to toe, I am horrified. THEY inject their abnormal behaviors and dress upon OUR culture, horrify our children, send a message of hate and hypocrisy, and oppress women. If they wish to be in the US, adopt our culture and progressive norms; DO NOT try to change us and destroy our civilization. A clear depiction of their hate and true motives can be observed in Saudi Arabia where textbooks and social dogma is to hate and destroy the western nations. You can take the scum from the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the scum in the first and second generations.
