Reading this story, it appears this horrific gang-rape happened on a bus. Where was everyone else? The driver? No one intervened or stopped this? Such a very sad state for women in this ugly world.

The type of men who do this do so because they get away with it. If these women started arming themselves (guns, knives, whatever) and fighting back and inflicting some pain, damage and even death, these thugs might rethink attacking the "defenseless" women since they now wouldn't know who is armed and who isn't. We have become a society of mute witnesses. It's sad. Indeed. An ambulance pulled in front of my neighbor's house. His wife was taken out on a stretcher. I went over to make sure everyone was okay. Her husband explained to me what happened and it just didn't sit well with me. For sure, they both are very nice people and I've never had any reason to suspect anything, but something in me kept saying "something's not right". I lived with that feeling for a few hours until I finally sought advice from the police department. Sure enough, the attending physician had filed a police report for spousal abuse. I will be doing my part by testifying and what he said to me in an excited utterance will be key to that case.

First of all, you guys don't know the entire situation - This girl was with a friend of hers late night trying to catch a bus to go home,after watching a movie & about 5 men lured them to take a bus once the couple got in after driving for a minute they attacked her friend with a metal rod & after they gang raped her & did the most damaging thing EVER they used a "L- shaped" rusted rod & inserted it with so much pressure that it pulled her intestines out & that's the damage that these savages had done to a girl after which they threw her & her friend out of the bus onto to the middle of the rd.

Arm the women and teach them how to defend themselves - and that it's ok to do so. Rape is strictly the pervue of cowards and bullies, be it by a single individual or a gang.. There are certain types of guys that commit rape.. Those that are so terrified of women the only way they can convince themselves they are 'macho' is by using force, fear and intimidation.. Then there are the 'pretty boys'.. They think because, in their own minds, they are so 'beautiful' that no woman has a right to refuse their attentions and they become enraged when one turns them down.. These guys I classify as a combination of 'control freak' and 'megalomaniac'.. They are usually the result of being smothered and babied, well into adulthood, by their mothers and/or female relatives..

Then there are the males brought up by vicious and abusive parent/s.. Though mostly abused by the male parent they resent and hate their mothers for not protecting them from their abuser, even though she may be the main punching bag in the house and completely unable to help herself, much less her children.. These guys grow up watching their fathers dominate, terrify and brutally beat family members and, by the time they are teens, they feel women are good for nothing but beating on and being screwed, the more painfully, the better.. Sadly, as children, they may want nothing more then to see the abuse end and they vow never to hurt their own children the same way, but it's a proven fact that by the time they reach adolescence they are well on their way to being exactly like the abusive parent, carrying on the vicious cycle!

But, of course, the worst of the lot is the gang rapers.. These guys are all cowards and, most likely, would never commit such brutality when alone for fear of getting caught or even bested by the female.. Only in a crowd do they feel they are 'powerful' and 'in control' of the situation.. Goading each other on is the only way they can 'get it up', so to speak, because as 'men' they leave so much to be desired by the opposite sex.. Alone, they are afraid, hopeless and utterly inept with women.. So, they blame women for these feelings and use rage to try and wipe them out, but it's all to no avail.. Once the rage is gone they are once again tiny, little insignificant beings who mean little or nothing to anyone else in the world..

The women in India have been second class citizens for centuries, as are women in most other areas of the Middle-East and Asia.. What we have to try and remember here in the US is American men, for the most part, do not feel as threatened by women and, in fact, realize that treating women on an equal basis has enable this country to rise to it's greatest potential.. Don't misunderstand, we have our share of rapists, that's for sure, and the above descriptions apply to them just the same..
But it's terribly sad and tragic that many countries overseas not only refuse women equal rights but use religion as a means of keeping them subservient.. My young daughter of 20 just came back from India after six months on her study abroad program. While we talked about her positive experience in Indian history and ancient culture, she shocked me when we asked about the people. She summarized it in one sentence "Indian men are pigs." And this brutality and rape of a young college student during broad daylight illustrates the truth that "Indian men are pigs." What were the rest of the people in the bus doing while she getting raped by a bunch of them? - they were indifferent. That's how Indian men are, they think life of a woman is expendable. Their culture allows boys and men get away with murder and rape - this is nothing new. Their laws and social structures are such that men can indulge into this type of stone-age animal behavior without any consequences. This comes from the millenia old Indian tradition of valueing men more than women even within the same family. I have also noticed among the Indian families that we know in US, they would do the same, treat their girls worse than their boys.

Indians always think boys are assets and girs are liabilities - and that's where the root of all evil lies. Everyone in US blames Muslim countries for not treating their women right, just learn closely about Indian culture and you would know what the Indians really do with their girls and women. They are alwasy treated as third class citizen even in their own country, very sad indeed!

We in this country have issues with men treating women bad. They beat, rape and abuse them but no to the extent that they do in most every other country! Chepe...You should have advised your friend to exit his situation without hesitation. The ideals cultivted in me are to distance mysel from emotionally and physically abusive situations. Although, they both can be damaging, the emotionally abusive situation is not being forced upon your friend. His apttude to be stubborn, has caused his situation. In my estimation, there are persons on here compassionate to your situation, for we have all met with our share of people from both genders that emotionally abuse others for gain.

Just want to point out that a group of civilians has been roaming france and gang raping women as well and to my knowledge they havent' arrested them all. It was in the news a couple of months ago but i'm not sure the status. This isn't just an india problem there are sick people everywhere to be sure. France is a developed nation where women have rights and this too happend there to a couple of women.

Since the beginning of time men have raped women, it has nothing to do with sex. It is a method used to frighten and humiliate women,a way to keep them "in line".... If these men were running around raping other grown men, this would have been stopped along time ago. Too many try to blame the victim by saying ignorant things about the way they were dressed or what they were doing, too many turn a blind eye and refuse to step in and stop the attacker(s) and too many police officers take the act lightly, unless the victim is horribly injured.

As far a how girls are treated in India----women have equal rights. Women have equal rights under the law--whether you are talking about education, inheritance, etc. In many families, the girls are treated like princesses---pretty clothes, dance lessons, private school, etc. Even the victim in this case--her father, a poor farmer, sold his land to educate his daughter.

Let me add to my prior comment: India had a female prime minister for many, many years. There are many female members of Parliment. There are quite a few chief ministers of different states. A few days after the rape most of her intestines were removed due to the extensive damage sustained when the rapists kicked her repeatedly 'to teach her a lesson'. Her health degraded considerable thereon and she was airlifted to Singapore in the hope of getting her into a country with liberal organ transplan laws. It was enroute that her condition destabilized so completely.

Some of the rapists ARE asking for the deathpenality, I suspect they are afraid of what fate is going to befall them once they enter prison. I suspect they will not live long once they are let loose in main pop of the prisons there.

This was a private bus being driven by the owner and his stupid friends. They had had drinks before and had hatched a plot to drive the bus around late at night picking up fares so that they could rob them - which is what they did - about half a dozen people were picked up at various points by these bastards, robbed of their money and dumped somewhere - before this ill fated couple was picked up.

They started passing lewd and vulger comments on the girl and when her boyfriend objected they started beating him with an iron rod. The girl intervened and resisted causing them to turn their ire at her which culminated in one of the most dastardly attack India has seen in recent times.

After the arrest they found out that the main accused, the owner of the bus was a well known psychopath and had a history of wanton extreme violence. Why this son of a bitch was not in prison is the million dollar question.

She died peacefully?? That has got to be one of the dumbest things I've heard all week. She was ganged raped and had her insides torn out. but she died a peaceful death?? Okay people. Were they christian? Maybe the family thought that god needed another angel in heaven. What was her punk-a$$ male friend doing while she was being raped? It might have been a set up?

From what I've read the woman and her male companion boarded the bus thinking it was public transportation. It wasn't. What kind of a bus and who was on it I don't know, but they were all men. They attacked, beat and raped her and not even the bus driver intervened. Her companion was either beaten and/or restrained. So now a woman studying to be a doctor is barely alive and if she lives will never be the same. I've never understood why men hate women so much.
