Bomb thrown at car in Tel Aviv, injuring 7

Police in Israel believe a car bomb explosion in Tel Aviv was an assassination attempt against an alleged crime leader. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.

A bomb exploded in a car next to a bus in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv on Thursday, causing injuries but no fatalities.

At least seven people were wounded by the explosion, which happened at the junction of Menachem Begin Street and Shaul Hamelech Street just after 1 p.m. local time (6 a.m. ET).

A witness said a person riding a motorcycle threw the device at the car.

Police begin to cordon off a street in Tel Aviv as a car burns following an explosion, in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Thursday.

Police officials believe the attack was a criminal act aimed at specific individuals rather than an act of terrorism.

Radio reports in Israel said the blast may have targeted a member of a well-known criminal family, who escaped injury.

max you have no idea if the guy was actually jewish. if you ask me, muslim crime is out of control. jews rarely kill other jews. in fact, go look up the last time a jew was murdered in israel by another jew. it'll take you years to find something. israel is almost completely crime free.

rockmebritney, a quick lookup reveals that this is a continuation of mob violence in Israel that has been going on for years - definitely Jew vs. Jew. And yes there are plenty of murders of Jews by other Jews. look up crime rates by country and you'll see israel is not almost completely crime free. you can't blame everything on Muslims

Really Britney? The Israeli murder rate is double that of the UK,(2.1/100,000 vs 1.0/100,000), are you saying that all these murderers are muslems, or that Jews only kill muslems?

Israel has the ninth highest assault rate in the world 763.3 per 100,00

Britney,

Your aversion to statistics has been noted before. 2.1/100,000 is not low, it is well above the mean.

um, i'm not quite sure where youre getting your stats, but theres only about 7 million people here. if your stats are correct, thats only 147 people. which is nothing. i bet 147 people are killed each day in nyc. In Russia its 18 per 100k, US its 7.5 per 100k. so that 2.1 is nothing. israel has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

WHAT? Where the evil "assault weapon"??? People cannot be murdered without firearms.....

Jewish criminal gangs form a worldwide network engaged in all sorts of really evil stuff, from sex slave trafficking, human organ trade, drug trade, to organized gambling (like the famous backer of Newt Gingrich, Sheldon Adelson) and Wall Street insider trading. Of course it is not PC to speak of Jewish organized crime. It may even be antisemitic to do so.

No, they merely made a fare contribution.

Bombs are not good for the environment, you know (almost as bad as oil).

How appropriate, it happened on the street named after one of the originators of terrorism in the ME, Menachem Begin!

Is there no limit to what these fanatical zealots coming out of Brooklyn will do to get attention?

Menachem Begin was not from Brooklyn. He was a Jew from Poland, a deserter from Polish Army, who first spied for England and later became Stalin's spy to save his hide, a terrorist and a war criminal whose racist rhetoric was on par with that of top Nazi officials. A hero indeed...

Yet, even he never used suicidal bombers or human shields. I guess he left it to the real heroes.

Hamas is probably royally ticked off that nobody was killed! The guy who threw the bomb will probably be reprimanded and sent for retraining.

And what is Hamas, other than a violent mob? Or any other gathering of middle easterners in the middle east, except a violent mob waiting to happen? It's a way of life there.

Did not say it did, but that does not mean Hamas would not be overjoyed to see Israelis blown up anywhere any time. Either way, my comment was intended more as tongue in cheek.

Note the lack of hundreds of man-shirted casual onlookers in this photo. If this was in Cairo, Islamabad, Sanaa, Kabul or Detroit, the scene would be swarmed by Arabs looking for pointers on how to do a better job next time.

Daily bombings and rocket attacks by Sunni Islamic extremists like Hamas are too much to take.

Israel needs to do regular bombings of Hamas areas, terrorize them and drive them out.

Give them back with interest. Let us see how Hamas and their supporters enjoy them!

Also Israel needs to attack Sunni rulers like Qatar and any Sunni ruler/group supporting them.

How about another way to phrase the question:

Who has deliberately killed more innocent civilians who were not really human shields for someone with a rocket-launcher?

Organized crime has always been perfectly equal-opportunity, open to all nationalities and religions.

In this case, they are not even telling us the nationalities or religion of the attacker or the victims.

So, keep an open mind, everyone.
