Sadly Algerian forces would not be as cautious about not hitting the hostages as other countries would be. I spent 20 years in the honorable service of my country. After retiring from the military, I worked for the local hospital for 16 years before retiring from there in the small town where I live. While in both the military and civilian life, I always made it a point to invest a modest amount of each paycheck. I also collect a VA disability for a service connected injury that prevents me from working any further. I own my own home, and have put both my adult children through college. I am quite comfortable and do not need the free handouts that so many leftist liberals think is their God given right to claim.

By the way, I live on the AZ/Mexico border in Cochise County, AZ. About 6 blocks from the border fence to be precise. I am also of Mexican/American extract with 100% emphasis on the American part, although I speak fluent Spansh, and find your views on race to be totally repugnant. The U.S. is sending troops to 35 African nations under the guise of fighting Al Qaeda and related terrorists.

Democracy Now notes:

U.S. Army teams will be deploying to as many as 35 African countries early next year for training programs and other operations as part of an increased Pentagon role in Africa. The move would see small teams of U.S. troops dispatched to countries with groups allegedly linked to al-Qaeda, such as Libya, Sudan, Algeria and Niger. The teams are from a U.S. brigade that has the capability to use drones for military operations in Africa if granted permission. The deployment could also potentially lay the groundwork for future U.S. military intervention in Africa.

I say only negotiate w/hostage takers long enough to gather intel to try to free the hostages. Then go in and free as many as you can and kill or capture the hostage takers. Interrogate those who are captured, then execute them. Then use the intel gathered to identify who backed them up. Execute them, also. However many hostages and liberators die in the liberation attempt should be used to determine the # of the hostage takers next of kin who will also be executed. Do not give the hostage situation any media attention at all. Dealing with these animals in this way will put a stop to their actions.

The Constitution of the United States does not allow an active member of the military to be president and the commander in chief does not go in front of the troops when in battle.

There is actually a glut of oil in the midwest. They have so much oil being produced they can't get it all shipped out fast enough. And so much natural gas they don't even know what to do with it all.

And what kind of comment is that, " the Spotted Owl can relocate. When an animal lives in a particular area it is because it requireas that specific habitat. Or more than likely thier food source requires that habitat. And didn't they just have a close one up in Alaska already with a drill rig.

It's still our most valuable source of lubricants & plastics. Burning it is short sighted at best.

If you've read enough Sci-Fi, then you've probably read a Sci-Fi tale or two in which 'future generations curse us for our wastefulness', as it 'takes more energy' to 'glue hydrogen and carbon atoms back together, into a usuable lubricant and/or hydrocarbon-based plastic feed-stock', than the amount of energy that has been 'liberated' by burning them!

In other words, burning hydrocarbon polymers (i.e: breaking up their atomic bonds, to release some of the energy that went into forming them) to release their 'stored Energy Potential', when you might need those same hydrocarbon polymers as a "feedstock" at some point in the future, is a proposition that entails a "Net Energy LOSS" in the long run!

Take your own advice. We only produce 60% of what we use. The exports are ALL in the form of refined products that are made from IMPORTED oil. Get it? We import crude oil, refine it into gasoline and a hundred other things and then we export the finished products.
