A Canadian man shot dead a doctor who was suing him and the doctor’s lawyer in a court in the Philippines on Tuesday, according to reports.
Police said the man had smuggled a pistol into the court in the central city of Cebu, the AFP news agency reported.
The report said the Canadian had been accused of petty mischief.
A government prosecutor was also injured and the Canadian was shot and wounded during a melee, police told local radio DZBB. His condition was not clear Tuesday.
BBC News reported that the 65-year-old had been accused of mischief by his neighbors.
AFP said there was a public debate in the Philippines over stricter gun-control laws after a number of gun-related deaths in January.

Guys, I saw a gun the other day, and I was like "WHOA" and god, I hope NBC reports on this, because that thing looked dangerous!
We should ban these horrible things from all corners of the US. Even the military needs to disarm. If we can make the US a gun-free zone, we'll all be safe. That includes water guns and Hello Kitty bubble guns too.
And while we're at it, we need to ban thumb wars. Children should not be exposed to the horrors of war whether it be with thumbs or forefingers!
The article referred to him simply as a "Canadian". No word as to whether he was a naturalized Philipino-Canadian or what. It's hard to think a Canadian would do that.
He was a Canadian who was Born in the US.

I have been to Canada many times. Except for their VTM metropolis (Vancouver-Toronto-Montreal) Canada is no different than White trash America. They might not be as aggressive or as arrogant, at least in appearance or in outward behavior, but Canada is still as racist (sometimes even more than the US) and sexist as the US. Many blacks and browns in Canada never leave the VTM area. Outside these metropolises it is all white, all male, all insular and all provincial. Go to Winnipeg...strangest place you've ever been. Even Toronto is nothing more than borrowed, or loud trashy, art from New York. It is environmentally beautiful country, and some people are more European than American, and some retain their ethnic and religious identity proudly and with greater acceptance than the US (where acculturation is insisted on and means "being like the White boy").
One Canadian professor said to me, "Canadian businessmen and corporate guys are as ruthless and as greedy as the Yanks". And many Canadian upper classes today do business with Southern White boys...the kind that believes in "Capitalism" beyond "democracy or decency". And then there are Canadians who like to keep the US as it is so they can make money here or money off of the Yank while keeping Canada a sort-of-a-Socialist nation. As one older Canadian said to me, "We were once proud that we were different than the Yankee south of the border. Now Canadians below 40 act like trashy Yankees!"
This is the world with "the trashy American globalizing". The reverse never happened. The American never went abroad and learned anything good, useful or important. It was that 2% Yank that gave the US a good name. Even California, once known for its diversity and its liberalism, is less liberal and less diverse. Immigrants here either kiss the backsides of White boys, like they are Gods, or imitate them in the shallowest of ways. Look at SC local news.
In the movie "The Impossible", based on one Spanish family's ordeal after the tsunami that hit Southeast Asia in 2004, the couple, even amidst the terrible shock, pain and chaos, more interested in preserving their cell phone battery than provide help, is a yankee couple. They will not give a bloodied guy an opportunity to call his family...while his son and wife are missing...and probably dead.
I have relatives in Europe who will never come to America. Many Europeans hate their leaders and government for working the US on its warpath and an aggressive foreign policy. Most Europeans no longer trust America to behave decently even on financial matters...once their mastery.
Should I be surprised with this? Congratulations Canada...you are now officially lite USA! More Yanks are now migrating to your country now.
Even American politics is all about "White boys' entitlement" and all the Brown, Black and progressives - who see the world differently - are supposed to work for thin and fat white people's security, welfare and success while they keep shooting, killing, exploiting and abusing. North Americans now have the lowest trust and respect in the world now. As one European said to me contemptuously, "Oh...they'll just go on and on with wars". With all the hyped up rhetoric with Syria, Iran and now Mali...is he wrong?
If you have an American passport walk with shame...please! And don't keep blaming Obama for it. That is guy is trying to survive everyday in American politics. You got crap in Congress and most of whom lie, pretend and deceive. They probably need their guns as their might be a shootout there with all the loonies and crazies who've gotten elected. How the heck did we come to this?
You ask how did we come to this? First I would like to say that Europeans who resent Americas aggressive foreign policy but did not resent it when we bailed them out during WW2 because they allowed Fascism to flourish. It was after the buildup in military might that America turned toward the Industrial Complex. After WW1 and WW2 American leaders decided enough was enough. What started as a way to protect the world mutated into Capitalism on steroids when population growth outstripped the carrying capacity of countries engulfed in conflict. Europeans are just as responsible for the Capitalism on steroids as America and it is hypocritical for them to consider themselves above it all. They are not. Finally if you think that morality is dead in America then I would say it is dead in Corporate America and the laws governing this entity is part of the reason why decency is lacking in our corporate owned government. With regards to the rest of Europe they also lack morality and decency and if you look at what is happening in the sex trade there you would be shocked. Having more history of sophistication does not make you more moral and nor will religion make you a more ethical person. Most people bend with the wind and haven't the fortitude to resist an omnipotent governing force. Most people are easily seduced no matter how literate or educated they are. Even intellectual vanity is another form of corruption.
Is there an answer to the problem of what has become of America? Yes there is but it would take seducing the American people away from more is better mentality and that would have to become a world wide agenda. It would take people voluntarily choosing to limit birth rate growth. It would take abandoning this archaic growth model that is dependent on population increase and wasteful use of resources. It would take breaking up the robber oil barons grip on economic power and a world wide push for cleaner technologies. It would take balancing mechanization with creating a new jobs work plan. Finally it would take an honest effort by world leaders to effect these changes. Do you really think the current world leaders are going to be honest?
In the final analysis the dream of a better future for this planet is something precious to be worked toward even if when you look around all you see is destruction. Sometimes fulfilling even a small part of the dream is the only way to keep your sanity in a crazy world.
Now NBC is so desperate for gun ban stories they are going to the Philippines to get the stories. Billions of people on this planet and NBC has to go all the way to the Philippines to drag up more political fodder to take guns away from US citizens.
A civilian with a gun is a citizen a civilian without a gun is a subject.
If Americans allow Obama and Congress to pull this crap they will find out just how fast their government becomes another Fascist dictatorship. They will find out how quick the military is pulled in to restore order on civilians who are protesting the loss of their rights. It won't be just policeman trying to antagonize crowds so they have an excuse to bludgeon skulls it will be the military in full combat gear.
