An Afghan policeman stands guard at the site of a suicide attack in Kunduz city on Jan. 26, 2013. At least ten policemen were killed and 18 others, mostly civilians, were wounded in a suicide attack Saturday in a crowded area of the northeast Afghan city of Kunduz, provincial authorities said.
Ten police officers, including the local counter-terrorism chief, were killed in a suicide bombing in northern Afghanistan on Saturday.
Shortly after 5 p.m. local time a man driving a motorbike detonated a large bomb at a busy roundabout in the north city of Kunduz near a group of police officers, provincial police chief spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini said.
"As a result of a suicide attack 10 policemen were killed, including the head of the traffic department and the head of the counter-terrorism office," said Hussaini.

Medical staff assist a wounded blast victim at the main hospital in Kunduz city on Jan. 26, 2013.
Four civilians and five other police officers were wounded in the bombing, he said.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack but militants, including the Taliban, are active in the area.
The attack came a day after a suicide bomber in a car killed at least five civilians and wounded 15 others when he attacked a NATO convoy in the north eastern province of Kapisa.
Responsibility for that attack was claimed by the Taliban via spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
Taliban militants have been waging an 11-year war against Afghan President Hamid Karzai and a U.S.-led NATO force.

Once again the Afghans show their inability to understand that standing around in groups just makes the suicide murderers' job easier. Spread out, maintain cover, do not stop and take a tea break unless it's inside a hardened bunker. Other than that, maybe Afghanistan should just ban all cars and motorcycles. Make everyone wear tight fitting clothes, lose the long, flowing man-dress robes and issue only baseball caps so nobody will be able to pack a bomb under their turban or monkey hat.
"Government Motors is alive, Osama bin Laden is dead, and
al Qeadathe Tablian is decimated."Next......
Or maybe give them all concealed bombs to blow the @!$%# out of each other as we get the holy hell out of there!
""As a result of a suicide attack 10 policemen were killed, including the head of the traffic department and the head of the counter-terrorism office," said Hussaini."
If this is going to be "responsible end" to Afghan war after all the training, disseminating al Qaida, having Pakis as “strategic allies” to battle terrorism and end up with more chaos, what have the NATO forces achieved in 11 years of Afghan war?
There is something basically wrong in the way Afghan war was fought and having Pakis as "strategic allies".
finally the afghan police get targeted and not our troops who usualy get targeted by afghan police or troops !
For six years, Afghan police have suffered a monthly sixty deaths and a hundred wounded. You just haven't cared.
When the U. S. pulls out, this region will be a real mess.
JERSY GIRL 1
Yeah...and training Afghans to kill their fellow counrtymen while simultaneously remote controlled airplane bombing a few unsuspecting families here and there is really 'cleaning it up'.
Guess what. I don't care about this. They have killed each other for Centuries. I do care that this Country gets our kids men and women the hell out of there. I also want and hope that the war mongers McCain and Graham retire soon!
When the U. S.moved in, this region was a real mess.
It still is.
"The attack came a day after a suicide bomber in a car killed at least five civilians and wounded 15 others when he attacked a NATO convoy in the north eastern province of Kapisa."
When the Taliban, Islamic holy warriors, don't bother about civilians, why should we care?
Carpet bomb the Paki militant areas, which have been providing shelter, logistics, training and staging ground for attack on NATO forces.
I doubt it. Afghanistan was stable when the Taliban ruled it. There was nothing on the level of violence & discord that we're currently witnessing. Of course, their foreign policy towards the West during that time was definitely 'a real mess', but once the Taliban power structure was toppled, the U.S. should have withdrew from the country.
The same can be said about Somalia. That country was leaderless for over a decade until Al-Shabab enforced a truce between the numerous warring factions. But, Al-Shabab leaders aren't the type of Muslims that we like so, we created a reason to invade it. Using Ethiopia and troops from Kenya, we brought disorder back to Somalia and it has been that way ever since.
Libya... Muammar Ghaddafi was one of the very few Muslim leaders who willingly gave up Libya's development of Weapons of Mass Destruction. His reward? His violent overthrow and extra-judicial execution.
Democratic Republic of Congo, formerly Zaire: Joseph Kabila, Sr. had conquered the other warlords and united his country after decades of war and military coups. He also had signed treaties with neighboring countries. But, because he had signed several trade deals with China - those deals ended previous deals with Western countries - a Western operative within his security detail, assassinated him. His son, Joseph Kabila Jr. - now rules the country.
I could list several other countries that were made worse after Western intervention, but I think you get the point: countries are a lot better off without Western intervention.
Its bad to have no cops. One cop will hide in the office. Two cops will go almost anywhere. With three cops, two will dislike the third. Four or more cops will bunch up and gossip. Boom! No cops. This is bad. Its bad to have no cops. One cop will hide...
doh.
Idiots...... Why are so many Police Officers gathered in one place?
If it is small groups, attack will be easier!
Steve,
Have you ever been to a police station? There is usually an office facility for police officers. It's where they pick up their assignments, confer over priorities, etc. Wouldn't it be a little difficult to have a police force without a police station?
Just Muslims of Afghanistan showing their love for their brothers. Imagine the love they will show when the US is gone?
We should give them or rather leave them bombs to do a big job on each other! Allah could welcome thousands! He would have the Virgins working double shifts!
You mean when our wallets are gone...
Oh might God let the US troops leave as soon as possible so the people may enter sooner then later the heavens they so desire!..... as they blow the @!$%# out of each other. Amen
Still John Kerry feels Pakis help is needed to fight terrorism!
In Afghanistan, Pakis have backstabbed the US and NATO forces big time. Half of NATO forces deaths are due to ungrateful and backstabbing Pakis.
When the NATO forces were entering Kandahar in 2001, Pakis airlifted key al-Qaida, Taliban, ISI and others militants by back door from Kandahar.
This includes Mullah Omar, Osama and many including Paki Haqqani militant network leaders.
Hope people remember about Pakis sheltering Osama.
These Paki Islamic religious Nazis don't bother about their people and they are into reckless killing games in the name of jihad.
Drone attacks are not enough. To reduce NATO forces losses, carpet bomb Paki militant areas just like 1991 Iraqi war.
Who can explain to the top US politicians and military that Pakis are the root cause of problems?
Don't hear much about Iraq since we left and I am sure that Allah is accepting a goodly share of them to the ..whatever virgin territory. Funny how they cover the women up and when they die they want to screw the @!$%# out of them. What a dastardly group of people!
Stranger is that British invented Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, who are fountainheads of Islamic extremism on rampage all over the world.
US and allies have kept them alive on the map.
Saddam would have wiped out Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and some more Sunni ruled nations out of the map.
India or Russia would have wiped out Pakistan from the map!
Since the birth of Islamic cult, followers of Islamic cult have been only liabilities and curses wherever they set their feet.
Half of NATO forces deaths in Afghanistan are due to Pakis.
Before followers of Islamic cult set their feet on Afghan and Paki regions, these regions were quite peaceful and prosperous.
Once the cancer of Islam gradually got control of the region, those regions have become raping, stealing, looting and killing fields.
In Afghanistan, Paki proxies Taliban did not even tolerate Buddha’s statue in Bamiyan.
Many Paki areas and some Afghan areas have become breeding and exporting centers for illegal activities including drugs growing and trading and export of Islamic radicals and terrorists all over the world.
British invented Pakistan in 47 and Pakistan is supposed to be a pure Islamic nation. In Pakistan, it was massive genocides of minorities in between 48-50.
Percentages of Hindus and Sikhs were reduced from about 24 percent less than three years by rapes, stealing, lootings, terrorizing and killing on a massive scale.
Paki Islamic religious madness did not end there.
Sunni Pakis are after Ahmedias, Sufis (fake love and dance Islamic soap opera people), Shiites (20 percent), Hazaras, and Baloochs and other minority sects/tribes.
Shiites, Sufis, Ahmedias and other minority sects/tribes people are blown up while they pray in their mosques on Fridays. And even hospitals are bombed to kill those injured.
Sir: Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are still strategic allies in fighting terrorism!
OK rather boring topic. Let the Intellectuals of the Republic Party, Palin, Bachman, Cain, McCain and the Tabernacle Choir Solve!
!
Islam sucks.
all around and leaves the dead!
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan should be declared as terrorist nations.
They are responsible for 80 percent of world problems including economic mess.
Oil rich Sunni rulers of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar and other Sunni Arab League nations have backstabbed us by manipulating oil prices to very high levels.
This has resulted in economic mess in most of the oil importing nations. High oil prices and reckless Iraqi wars are responsible for heavy US debts.
Time has come to wipe out Saudi Arabia and Pakistan from the world map for world peace and economic stability.
Explain this to me please. Two of the last four paragraphs in this article read as:
"No one has claimed responsibility for the attack but militants, including the Taliban, are active in the area."
"Responsibility for that attack was claimed by the Taliban via spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid."
?
Read more carefully. They are talking about two different attacks.
Missed that.
so what is the difference, christians here in the U.S. are killing themselves every day! can't imagine what would be happening if the conn. school killer had been a MUSLUM!
Does it ever occur to anyone here that there are tens of thousands of Afghanis who just want to build a life for themselves and their families? Does it ever occur to anyone that the terrorists are a very small proportion of the people?
Do any of you advocate killing all Americans because of Tim McVeigh or Adam Lanza? You cannot define an entire population by its worst members. There are perfectly sane and moderate Afghanis. They just don't get heard from much. They're too busy trying to survive and build lives.
@underemployed
I'm sure that there are many Afghans that just want to get on with their lives. They don't want any violence to happen to them or there families. It also occurs to me that they know who the bad guys are. The question is, why don't they turn the bad guys in?
well mr prez...lets now ban motorcycles..they can be used for bad things also...
don't mess with texsas, Misspelled on purpose? Who wants to mess with Texas let them secede so we don't have to read such ignorant posts.
The decent people of afganistan need to fight against the Taliban terrorists and maybe we wouldn't have to be over there and our soldiers wouldn't have to die.
We have 1.5 million terrorists in the United States right now (gang members), it sure would be nice if the United States government would do something about that problem.
I really don't think we need to be the world's police anymore.
