Tens of thousands march in support of gay marriage in Paris

Christian Hartmann / Reuters

Demonstrators march through the streets of Paris in support of the French government's draft law to legalize marriage and adoption for same-sex couples, Jan. 27.

Tens of thousands of people marched through Paris on Sunday to support the French government's plan to legalize gay marriage and adoption, but the turnout fell well short of a mass demonstration against the project two weeks ago.

Police estimated total attendance at about 125,000, while organizers put the number at 400,000. Two weeks ago, organizers of the anti-gay marriage protest claimed turnout of one million, while police put the number at 340,000, an unusually high turnout even in protest-prone France.

"There is a big difference between today's march and the one two weeks ago, which is that this demonstration is one of brotherhood, not of hatred," Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoe, who is openly gay, said on French television.

"The majority of French people wants all couples to have equality in love and parenthood," Delanoe added.

On Tuesday, French parliament starts a two-week debate about the planned law change, which would be one of the biggest social reforms since abolition of the death penalty in 1981.

The government's socialist and green majority is determined to pass the legislation, against which the conservative opposition has lodged some 5,000 amendments.

On Saturday, an Ifop poll showed the proportion of French supporting legalization of same-sex marriage has risen to 63 percent from 60 percent in early January and December, despite weeks of protest against the planned reform.

Support for adoption rights for gay couples also rose by 3 percentage points, although the country remains divided on the issue, with 49 percent in favor, according to the firm.

Several government ministers took part in the march and will be among a string of celebrities at a party organized by Pierre Berge, partner of late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.

Former French Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot was one of the few conservative politicians to support the marchers.

"Nobody has anything to fear from this step forward," she told BFM television.

Henri Guaino, a former top adviser to President Nicolas Sarkozy, told BFM the proposed law was a "a denial of nature" and called for a referendum on the issue.

"It is a negation of the difference between the sexes," he said.

Opponents of gay marriage and adoption, including most faith leaders in France, have argued that the reform would create psychological and social problems for children.

Same-sex weddings are legal in 11 countries including Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Norway and South Africa, as well as nine U.S. states and Washington D.C.

Yes, indeed tens of thousands marched for gay marriage in Paris today. However, in contrast, hundreds of thousands marched AGAINST gay marriage in Paris just about a week ago. I suppose the Parisians and the French in general are not sold on gay marriage. And that's a very good thing.

Like all right-thinking people, I remain totally opposed to equal rights for any group I'm not a member of. And I hope denver and amos will join our march next week against the socialist liberal theory of gravity and the ridiculous notion supported by Obama and Biden that the world is round and somehow orbits around the sun! Such nonsense! We decent people must never let the liberals foist their dangerous "science" on our precious children.

Homosexuals always exaggerate their numbers. Remember the old 10 percent of the population lie? 2012 Standford report puts them at 1.1 percent for homo men and 0.7 for lesbians.

Much ado about nothing.

Even if God Showed Up

Millions of Homosexuals and other Degenerate sex acts would refuse to accept God even if he descended from Heaven and proved his existence. I’m with the Atheist crowd in that I believe in the Big Bang Theories and Evolution. Conversely I do believe in the Resurrection of Christ. God the Father is an Astronaut King, a real life Klaatu (The Day the Earth Stood Still) H.G. Wells., he didn’t create the infinite universe.

Decadent Homosexuals and their minions of other unacceptable sexual behaviors would demonstrate their bona fide nature IF God materialized on Earth. The lust and desire for sexual gratification would outweigh even the Promise of Eternal Life in return they cease their sexual corrupted behavior. Many would convolute logic to demand more miracles from God and trump up claims that His appearance is fraud or a cheap magic trick. Some would have the demeanor of one who is “holding all the cards” or someone who is in a dominant position and can afford to shop around and treat God like he was a second class being. They would demand he strip and show his bodily parts for medical exam to prove he is God. Of course God the Father would not do that and so the homosexuals would find more cause to refuse recognition of his direct descent to Earth. If in fact he came in one of his Spacecraft they would insist they be allowed on board for inspection.

You ask “how do I know this”? Because it already happened. In the Old Testament of the Bible and in the time of Moses, God the Father walked with the people out of Egypt and even with his presence known they defied his laws and disobeyed his commandments. So it is a sure thing the homosexual degenerates would not give up their sex acts in exchange for the “gift” of eternal life. As an atheist I must believe it is a gift because God the Father did not create the Infinite Universe and therefore he is just another being struggling to survive in an Unknown Universe that holds secrets that will only be revealed in time that cannot ever have a fixed number other than infinite. God will walk with Man on Earth again soon and millions of brain washed liberals will deny his presence and they will suffer great harm because God is God and King of a mighty empire that spans across stars and planets some with billions of living being like us.

Mortify Your Senses Against Gay Rights

In “To The Priests Our Lady’s Beloved Sons” A Marian Movement of Priests publication, 1993 Supplement The Holy Mother speaks at Sant’ Omero (Teramo) May 1, 1993 (She speaks to Reverand Stefano Gobbi) and The Mother of God said “Mortify Your Senses”. I.E. Impose hardship on self to attempt to subdue the body of desire and passions by self-imposed disciplines, hardships, abstinence from pleasure. Colossians 3:5 “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature, sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed which is idolatry.”NIV

It doesn’t take much intelligence to understand that homosexuality is like bestiality, sodomy, incest, molestation, rape, polygamy, sexual slavery and many more of the unnatural, unacceptable, negative, and non-family orientated sex acts and promiscuity in general are all bad for humankind. AIDS/HIV, MRSA, HPV/Cancer, EIDS (Emerging Infectious Diseases), all the common Sexually transmitted diseases that are as we speak mutating and hybridizing into more deadly disease is cause and reason to refuse Gay Rights. Whatever it takes to protect the human race is necessary, invoke all sources to block gay rights and this New Advance of the Sexual Revolution. Forget your cousins and neighbors son or daughter is gay because to protect all humanity from the next coming plague will benefit more kids than any support of gay rights will. You saw how many died from AIDS and there are potentially millions of infectious diseases in other species of plants and animals that at anytime could like AIDS become a reality. Stop the insanity and stop gay rights. Mortify your sexual desires with discipline and self control and there will be less crime and a better world to live in.

The Fraud of Humanist Philosophy and Liberals Agenda

I really can’t stand readings like Paul Kurtz and usually skim fast because the fundamental idea of Humanism and Morality is a belief that man can exist in harmony without God. Obviously anybody that accepts the Humanism theory that we can be good and moral and not be dependant on any theistic connections is someone I’d call a pea brain. Well lets face the truth people, they sit in a classroom for several years doing the same study over and over. That is listen to a teacher lecture, write a few notes and take a test every week at the end of the week. The sheepskin doesn’t make the genius and Secular Humanists are the proof that even idiots are educated.

You see without an “Absolute Zero Religious World” the theory of morality without God is less than Hypothesis. In-other-words thousands of years of various Gods and all that comes with them has already ploughed the fields of human minds. We are all a product of some religion. Humanists like Paul Kurtz barely exist today because the production, availability of books, and the ability to read is only a couple centuries long for most people. They have no concept of what people would be like in a world that has no deities whatsoever. Absolute Zero God can never happen on Earth unless we destroy every living being here and all evidence of our existence and then start over without any Gods. Which is why people like Kurtz are idiots to write lengthy books as testimony of the greatness and goodness that man can do without religions.

Kurtz grew up in America in the early 1900’s a time when Christian influence provided relief from Slavery and laws to protect children from being used as cheap labor, and public schools were backed by Churches as well as the media we had access to was censured and secured by the power of the church. His life was ransomed by Christ as were most every person living in America and still is today. Secular Humanism is not even good science fiction because as we all know only the Scientologists have that.

Ethics, morality, love, and friendship on a world that has an Absolute Zero concept of Religion via Deities might not be possible. Such a world may live solely by the “kill or be killed”, “every man for himself”, “ a dog eat dog world” a place where relationships are forced and controlled and the barbarian way rules without fear of judgment from anyone. Why not an Atheist world that depraved? We have such degrees of hate here and this is a world with religions. The depths of evil on a world that has no religion at all may sicken you beyond anything conceived in the history of earths inhabitants. Think about it before supporting gay marriage as God doesn’t want it! And don’t try and pass off fake churches as Godly they are secular if they support gay marriage. The opposite absolute or the atheist motto is “ I have one life to live and it ends in death eternal so I will do whatever it takes to be a winner, nobody better get in my way for what I want out of life”. No morality or ethics there!

Vanhellslinger- God after Evolution The Astronaut God and King the real God is Atheist, Evolutionist, Big Bang Theorist, followed by the Raelians, Eric von Daniken (Chariots of the Gods), The Annunaki (Ancient Sumerian Texts) and all that believe in the Resurrection of Christ.

      Antinomian Churches

The mantra of antinomianism is evidence of nihilism within those churches supportive of gay rights package and proof they are nothing more than heretic churches. I remember something from the story of Saint Francis of Assisi- a comparison of his order with heretics and the difference was heretics act from pride while St. Francis from Love of God. The Gay Pride movement demands recognition, it stems from the 1973 vote to remove Homosexuality as a Mental Disease. Theirs is a cause of aggression and demands.

Jesus said “ I did not come to change the laws” (of the Old Testament) Mathew 5:17. The Mortification of the Senses (Colossians 3:5) reaffirms that Gods love is not without morality. Fast forward to year 2013 and we see the Jews, Christians, and Muslims are still following the same moral laws they did thousands of years ago. The process of “assimilation” failed to end the path created by Jehovah Elohim God Father of all and don’t forget the ancient Greeks with their pedophilic homosexuality who held the Jews as slaves but could not sway them to let their sons wrestle nude with other boys.

Heretic churches rely on the family unit and manifest their relationship of liberalism by relinquishing morality under the guise of compromise. Fathers and mothers that have gay children are tempted to allow the process of redemption to falter and turn to ultraliberal opinions for the sake of their spawns and care not for the good of humanity at large. Put on a pedestal and idolized as the heir apparent comes with responsibility and that job mandates a value equitable to all people. In that we know homosexuality is a disease and is heavily associated with HIV/AIDS, MRSA, HPV/ Cancer, Other Sexually transmitted disease, and not to forget EID’s Emerging Infectious Disease, one should only see homosexuality as non-productive and unacceptable within the community at large.

The Love of God thru his Son Jesus Christ and absolution, forgiveness of sin is not a “get-out-of-the-jail-of-sin card that can be used to go back home and repeat the same sins over again, and that is what Gay Rights is attempting to facilitate. Tough Love allows the sick mind and body to strive and with the Hand of God, Church, Community, and Family the homosexual copes with his human weakness and in the process reduces the damage that can spread to others. We must stop Gay Rights for the good of all people including the homosexual. Gay rights is not a matter of compromise, finding a middle ground and making political concessions because in some issues there is only one way to do things. Morality is axiomatic, a science that must forever be part of the human destiny. Gay marriage is a matter of behavior and not to be examined in comparison to other freedom movements like racial and women’s rights. Sexual degeneration however common is not a civil right.

Amos Masurrpianski - I suppose the Parisians and the French in general are not sold on gay marriage.

I suppose you'd be wrong given that 63% of the French public supports marriage equality. As the article stated, support has risen 3% just in the two weeks since the bigots marched.

And no surprise that far-right Catholics, Muslim extremists, fascists and neo-Nazis marched together, united in their common hatred of gays. They all seem to share many of the same values.

The majority of French people wants all couples to have equality in love and parenthood,

So, 125,000 is a majority? That sounds entirely skewered and delusional to me. 49% is just under half, which mean 51% don't want gay parenting. On a more factual note, it's been shown that many gays have open relationships and are not exclusively monogamous, so basically this is mainly about public acceptance. The CDC recently stated that domestic violence is just as common among gays, which in my opinion dispels the myth about homosexuality being harmless.

The homosexual community has yet to produce a gay gene, and the scientific community has never conclusively stated that homosexuality is solely biological. Despite the hatred gays professes is directed at them, it's mainly a persecution complex filtered through projection: the only hateful ones are the gays who mainly feel themselves threatened because people don't accept homosexuality. Originally, homosexuality was diagnosed as a mental disorder where the sufferer was unable to tell themselves apart from their disorder: homosexuality. Judging by the demand for apologies from the gay community, I feel this diagnoses was right.

      ItIsWhat!t!s - So, 125,000 is a majority?

Maybe you should read the article, then comment? 63% of the public is an overwhelming majority in favor of marriage equality. Here's what it says:

On Saturday, an Ifop poll showed the proportion of French supporting legalization of same-sex marriage has risen to 63 percent from 60 percent in early January and December, despite weeks of protest against the planned reform.

Support for gay adoption and public health care subsidies for artificial insemination for gays (a right which straights enjoy) has dropped a little but is still a plurality.

Perhaps more important than current public opinion is the fact that Hollande ran on a platform which included marriage equality, and it was a deciding factor in his win over Sarkozy.

Yes, because the half a million protestors of Roe v. Wade were irrelevant. The poll that shows 57% of Americans believe abortion should be legal in all or almost all cases and 70% believe that Roe v. Wade should not be overturned is much more significant and received much more coverage as it should have. The good thing is opposition to abortion and gay marriage is literally dying. If you look most of the opposition to both are from people over 60. Those under 30 are very supportive of both. We just need to wait a while and keep pressing ahead, making progress on both, and soon people who oppose these things will be like those who oppose integrated schools and repeal of Jim Crow laws - sad chapters in our history with few, if any, people who feel that way and a collective disbelief of how people once could have felt that way.

For starters, there is a difference between pro-choice and pro-abortion. Personally, I do not like abortions, but I strongly believe that people should be free to make their own choices about their sexual and reproductive health. Hence, I am pro-choice.

And I find it ironic that you complain about the culture of death when your political party is unwilling to even talk about gun control, the lead factor in our "culture of death."

Every time I hear this ridiculous statement I can't help but wonder if the person making it really believes what they are saying. "I am in favor of allowing abortions, but I am not pro-abortion" WTH? What if I said "I am not pro-death but I am in favor of jurors choosing the death penalty?" You pro-abortionists (yes, that is exactly what you are) would be all over that statement like flies on sh*t. It's the same damned thing. Just admit it.

"Pro-choice" means just that: we support the right of EVERY woman to CHOOSE what she does about her own situation, whether we personally are for or against abortion.

        N. Sterling,

It's called hate and bigotry because the majority several years ago thought that being a different color meant less intelligence, and the majority of whites thought that. Was that majority thinking right?? Opinions and values change through out history, and society as a whole has changed, emerging into rights for all individuals being the norm; not singling out differences and treating them to less rights because you don't agree. Those who are less accepting of others are becoming a minority, with the younger generation not looking to discriminate against those who are different from them.

In fact, 53% or the population think gay marriage SHOULD be legal in the United States. If it was widely and unanimously accepted why isn't gay marriage universal? You can't answer because it's NOT! A lot of people do not accept and find the lifestyle repulsive. And just because 9 states in America that allow gay marriage it is hardly a majority. I wonder why msnbc. didn't cover the anti-gay march recently on Washington D.C. that attracted about half a million people your gonna tell me every one there was over 60! get a clue and stop living in a fairy tale(pun intended). What we are witnessing is the backlash of no morals, broken families, and a generation that largely has no shame what so ever. They think it's cool to promote a sick and filthy lifestyle because they think it's the socially hip many are spoiled brats with too much time on there hands and have no jobs and have nothing better to do! There are alot of young people that think it is disgusting and came from home's that had a mother and father and were taught morals and family values not so with this younger generation.

        N. Serling,

Again, 9 states is almost 1/5 of the United States, and the American public is increasing it's support of same sex marriage and the legalizing of it. As the article above states, a large portion of European countries have enacted laws legalizing same sex marriage with a large portion of it's citizens supporting them; with the younger generation leading the way. You may feel differently, but, society in general is moving to accepting differences in others and standing up for equality.

The religious leaders are still behind the times; and still holding women back from holding religious positions in the church....not surprising they are against it. Many traditional families support same sex rights, with many traditional families having children that are coming out and stating their sexual orientation without fear of rejection or reprisals....I think you are witnessing the backlash of bigotry and prejudice being thrown out, and acceptance and individual rights being embraced.

There are still some that think that it is wrong, but, the rest of society has embraced it. Again, show me any evidence that intra-racial marriage destroyed or weakened traditional marriage...and show me any evidence that same sex marriage destroys or weakens traditional marriage. The good vs. evil is a lame excuse for denying civil rights....same was said back in the 60's. Your views are losing favor and majority opinion with society, but keep believing that you are right as society leaves you behind.

No you can't accept the fact that it is not widely accepted and the fact that of the matter of those that do not accept that lifestyle you can't change our minds. In the article they clearly stated that more people turned out for the anti gay demonstration than this one for gay Rights! The numbers were much higher that opposed it can't argue with that number. My views are not losing favor's and are still accepted by those that think it's disgusting! I said nothing against inter-racial marriage destroying traditional marriage! Your a typical liberal when things are not going your way you just drug race in the issue whine and B!#ch!.

          Serling,

I stated that you have a right to your views, just like I have a right to mine; and that society in general are becoming more tolerant and accepting. I brought race into it because the same view that you and others hold against the gays and lesbians, are the same that were held against blacks, Asians, and those of another color or race. That is a fact historically, and many still hold those views today. Many called intra-racial marriage disgusting behavior and immoral, good vs. evil; the children born into a intra-racial marriage spawn of the devil, I could go on and on.

The fact is, I know I won't change your mind or view, but to state that yours is in the majority when you can't deny the fact that the laws are changing in Europe and the U.S. giving the gays rights and legalizing them; I believe that proves that the rest of society is accepting the gay's as having the same rights as you. I'm having a rationale debate with you, not complaining, whining, or name calling.....can you.

          Indeed N. Serling.

The good are fighting for truth, justice, and the American way. They support same-gender marriage equality.

The evil are those (excluding the vast number who are still ignorant) who are fighting against such equality.

Good. I was seriously worried that France could be so hateful. I see right off that the people marching in this march are younger. It seriously will be the younger generation that will turn the world around and legalize equality for all.

We cannot follow our grandparents and their parents and their grandparents opinions. If we did, we would have never overcome racism. This is critical. It's up to this generation to change the world for the better as far as gay rights and marriage equality is concerned.

The march of the bigots two weeks ago was primarily just right-wing fascists, from Le Pen's MEP to neo-Nazis to Opus Dei Catholics, to Muslim extremists.

In other words everyone who didn't vote for Hollande in the last election when Hollande ran on a platform which included marriage equality.

The article states that a poll shows over 60% of the population agrees with legalizing same sex marriage; just like the polls in the U.S. show over 50% support. Many other countries have legalized it, along with several states; and I have not heard any demise over traditional marriage with the legalizing of same sex marriage. All the fears and doom and gloom predictions have not come to pass; society in general is becoming more accepting of others, thereby giving hope that true peace and harmony is possible.

Jackie, didn't you hear about Canada, where the law says that any time a gay couple get married a straight couple must get divorced and turn over two of their children to take mandatory therapy to become gay? Soon there will be no heterosexuals left in that country. But seriously, it is interesting that Canada's current Conservative government has no plans to try to overturn their laws allowing abortions, gays to serve openly in their military, or marriage equality.

The problem I have with this: A government is trying to decide for the people what they should accept.

This needs to be a "referendum" question in France, not a decision made by corrupt, gay biased government.

I found it bizarre that one commenter....gil-1088366..... within 2 sentences claims to be an "atheist" while at the same time attesting that,

" As an atheist I must believe it is a gift because God the Father did not create the Infinite Universe and therefore he is just another being struggling to survive in an Unknown Universe that holds secrets that will only be revealed in time that cannot ever have a fixed number other than infinite. God will walk with Man on Earth again soon and millions of brain washed liberals will deny his presence and they will suffer great harm because God is God and King of a mighty empire that spans across stars and planets some with billions of living being like us."

So an atheist that believes in God... in whatever form? Talk about a confused person.

When it comes down to it, why is it your business? All anti gay people fixate on and obsess over is what happens in the bedroom. That is a miniscule fraction of the lives of these people. Like many relationships, those in long term partnerships end up being fairly asexual. It becomes truly a simple partnership of 2 individuals who care deeply about one another. If there is love there, it is a better place for a child to be raised than in the millions of hetero-sexual families that are full of abuse, apathy, and anything but love.

For the most part, those gay couples who seek to get married are NOT the stereotypical gay people conservatives have drilled into their brains.... the party going, drug abusing, multiple partner having lot who are only different from the heterosexual crowd doing the same thing but not as ostracized simply due to sexual orientation.

Mind your own business. Liberty and justice for all.

BIGOTS WILL BE BIGOTS! Protesting because of your regressive upbringing does not entitle "conservatives" to dictate their religious values to the rest of us. France is predominantly Catholic and STILL has a 63% MAJORITY who support gay marriage so what is the problem with all these rightwingnutjobs?? Preach at each other at home and your places of worship, but KEEP your religion out of civic affairs. ANY two adults who want to get married should have ALL the chances in the world to perpetuate their dream, straight or gay. A home with two loving parents - straights or otherwise - should be something we are all grateful for. Statistically, children raised by two lesbians tend to turn out the best adjusted of the three couple combinations. So go break out that GINKO BILOBA for your thought processes - about 50-100mg daily and after a month or so you might see thru the fog, if you mind isn't saturated in hate... oh, oh and stop watching FAUX NOISE.

BEST WISHES TO ALL THE NEWLYWEDS!! ;>)
