Rights group: At least 65 people found bound, shot in head in Syria 'massacre'

Locals gather at the banks of a small canal containg the bodies of dozens of people on Jan. 29 in Aleppo, Syria.

BEIRUT — At least 65 people, apparently shot in the head, were found dead with their hands bound in a district of the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Tuesday, a pro-opposition monitoring group said.

The U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the death toll could rise as high as 80 in what it called a "new massacre."

It was not clear who carried out the killings.

Photos posted online by activists showed the muddied bodies of about a dozen men lying by a small river in what they said was the Bustan al-Qasr neighborhood of Aleppo.

Close-up shots of some of the corpses showed they had what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head.

Government forces and rebels in Syria have both been accused by human rights groups of carrying out summary executions in the 22-month-old conflict, which has claimed more than 60,000 lives.

Rebels pushed into Aleppo, Syria's most populous city, over the summer, but have been stuck in a stalemate with government forces. The city is divided roughly in half between the two sides.

Those who are permitting the dangerous fronts (Syrian Observatory for Human Rights) of Sunni Islamic extremists are getting paid by oil rich Sunni rulers of House of Saud, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and othe Sunni Arab League nations.

What do the seventh desert one-way traffic highly corrupt, feudal, despotic Sunni rulers of House of Saud, Kuwait and their fronts know about "human rights", "women rights", "democracy" and other big words?

Are they humans to talk/scream about "human rights"?

Since the "rebels" have been in control of the northern part of Aleppo for some time, it is a good bet that they are the ones responsible for this. Of course the news media will not say this because it does not fit their neat little world where these poor "rebels" are fighting the "good fight" against the evil Assad. The reality is that these so-called "rebels" are nothing more than Islamic extremists who want control for themselves and will do anything to have to do to get that control. They are not some freedom fighters who are fighting for an open democratic society in Syria, they are Islamists who want control so that they can institute their own brand of Islamic republic in Syria and take control for themselves. These "rebels" will be far worse than Assad ever was. At least Assad is basically a secularists who has allowed the people of Syria to worship as they choose. That will not be the case if these "rebels" get control. If they do, anyone who does not follow their particular brand of Islam will be persecuted, if not outright killed. That has already been demonstrated by many of these massacres that have been carried out by these "rebels." Every time one of these massacres happens the news media goes out of its way to try and blame it on Assad's forces when in reality most of them have been carried out by the "rebels." The different "rebel" groups are not even all on the same page. The only thing that is keeping them from killing each other right now is their shared desire to get rid of Assad. If that happens, then the different "rebel" groups will turn on each other as they fight for control and for whose version of Islamic extremism will become the new way of life for the people of Syria. If these "rebels" do manage to get rid of Assad the losers will be all the people of Syria who do not prescribe to the particular brand of Islam the winning "rebel" group does. Of course women and non-Muslims will get the worst of it as women's rights will virtually disappear and non-Muslims will be persecute, exterminated, or forced to flee the country by these "rebels." As bad as Assad may be, the reality is that he is far better than the alternative.

Thanks MSNBC for yet another report filtered to fit your views. Why not include some reality?

"In the eastern city of Deir al-Zor, insurgents including al Qaeda-linked Islamist fighters captured a security agency after days of heavy fighting, according to an activist video issued on Tuesday.

The fighters freed prisoners from the building, it added.

The video, posted online, showed men armed with assault rifles cheering as they stood outside a building that they said was a local branch of Syria's intelligence agency.

Some of the fighters carried a black flag with the Islamic declaration of faith and the name of the al-Nusra Front, which has ties to al Qaeda in neighboring Iraq"

It's like Lybia all over again. Insurgents, oh I mean "rebels" (wink, wink), taking down a stable government to create a new recruiting/training ground that will continue to desintigrate into chaos for years to come.

Holy @!$%#balls....that's an average of 227 people a day being killed. Whew...

I could not imagine being one of the 65 people with my hands tied behind my back and listening and watching us one by one being executed then, it's eventually going to be my turn.

That has got to be one of the worst feelings anyone could ever have. Talk about Fkd up anticipation...

Obama announces new aid for Syrian rebels

"Under fire for not doing more to help Syria’s rebels, President Barack Obama announced on Tuesday that he's sending opponents of strongman Bashar al-Assad another $155 million in humanitarian aid and defended his handling of the bloody conflict."

Thank goodness America is all taken care of and doesn't have budget problems or anything. (sarcasm)

Like Libya all over again? Great! I'd love another country in the region where 54% of the population welcome US leadership and 90% have favorable opinions of the US. When people talk about Libya as a terrorist training ground, they always seem to forget that the week after the Benghazi attack, 30,000 Libyans stormed the compounds of the groups responsible, holding signs of support for the US and of mourning for Chris Stevens. Private militias and non-government police forces were expelled.

Libyans love America. We succeeded with them where we failed in Iraq - they actually do see us as liberators. No country in the entire region has US-favorability numbers anywhere close to what Libya has, except for Israel.

Now, if we'd done something about Syria a little earlier, maybe they'd like us too. As it is, they see us standing by and watching as 60,000 (four times as many as Libya) have died, and millions have become refugees, with Assad still pretty well entrenched.

Sunni Islamists can't tolerate Assad as he belongs to a different Muslim sect.

Can there be more madness than these Sunni Islamic extremists?

It will be a great service to the world, if Assad eliminates all the Sunni Islamic extremists.

        Creek Dog

Believe it was Merneptah or Ramses II in ancient Egypt who, upon defeating the Sea Peoples, ordered the right hands of all the captured be brought to him for counting. When he found a left hand in one of the baskets, and believing his commanders were trying to "up the numbers," he ordered all their penises cut off for counting instead. There were only one of those per captive. Now that's some !@#*edup anticipation. Thousands Bobbitted !!!

This reeks of the Iranian death squads roaming freely in Syria. Assad will firmly deny any involvement, so he will technically be correct. Iran and Russia both have feet on the ground to 'protect' Ass(w)ad and his wife, and when they are not actively 'protecting' Assad, they can pretty much go and do whatever they like to do for recreation.

So far they have recovered 68 bodies from the shore and water of Qawiq River SE Aleppo. There are many more- over 100 by some estimates- all young men or boys hands tied behind their backs (POWs) and shot woth one (1) bullet in the head or neck execution style. No mercy-no rules of war (civil war)- beastiality rules. What should spur some action -apparently it is more to hold endless meetings of donating monies for the Syiran refugees- latest in Kuwait with US/State to boot- money pledges for TURKEY (forgetting refugees in Jordan and Lebanon). To get angry-real angry at all these feelgooders of talk+pledges in various posh centers (UN/US/EU/AL etc) see the pictures from Aleppo of abandoned Mental Institute's patients to fend for themselves with a couple of people trying to help them with no aid coming in- go to http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/kolumnister/staffanheimerson/article16132986.ab and remember the Berlin Airlift under HST-now 'what difference does it make' rules the roost.

Just examine how the seventh century despotic and bigoted one-way traffic Sunni rulers of House of Saud, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE and other Sunni Arab League nations and their hater and killer fronts operate.

"Government forces and rebels in Syria have both been accused by human rights groups of carrying out summary executions in the 22-month-old conflict, which has claimed more than 60,000 lives."

Is 60000 a big number in Shiites vs Sunni battles?

Sunni majority Syrian rebels are supported their killer fronts like al Qaida, MB, Salaffi and other label ones.

Here Shiite Hezbollah, who were helped by Assad and his father have proved to be most cowards. They should have attacked and killed as many Syrian rebels by now.

There was rebellion of Shiites against the despotic and highly corrupt Sunni ruler of Bahrain.

Brave Sunni rulers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwaiti, UAE and other Arab League nations sent their forces and just quelled the Shiites rebellion in no time.

All of a sudden, these seventh century fountainheads of Sunni Islamic haters and killers, remembered “human rights violations” in Syria.

So the Sunni rulers of Arab League sent “human rights” group to Syria.

The head of the Saudi and their Arab League observers to Syria was a Sudanese Gen. The brave Gen was responsible for the genocides of at least 300000 Christians in Darfur!

Still House of Saud ruler and his 5000 princes and princesses and other Sunni rulers seventh century desert dances did not work.

Later they outsourced their dirty work to Turkey.

You see: Turkey is a strategic NATO ally and too much of Turkey’s seventh century Islamist Erdogan’s dances mean US, Britain and other NATO forces members have to pitch in.

What a way to outsource their dirty jobs to NATO forces just like Iraqi wars to save Kuwaiti, Saudi and other “oil rich” rulers!!!

in libya there were al Qaida fighter on both sides, some of those fighting on "Gadhafi" side are now in Maii trying to overthrow to bring harsh strict Islam that would greatly reduce freedom and human rights.

Everyone knows that al Qaida and Assad had a close friendship relationship, so likely the same would apply in syria. The Diffference between "Gadhafi" and "Assad" is that Gadhafi didn't set up torture chambers all across the country to kill and/or torture not only those seeking freedom but only children, many had their body parts cut off and were burnt to death. Assad the Butcher is far more dangerous and evil than Maddog Gadhafi, he is killing tens of thousands thinking only of himself

All Shiites including that coward Hezbollah should support Assad, a compartive better leader among ME Muslim rulers.

Then Shiites should march to Mecca and Medina and erase them to ground.

The Muslim religion is not a religion of peace. It never has been, and never will be.

Every country should ship the Muslim communities back to the country they or their ancestors came from. If not, soon or later we will have the battles in this country. European countries will have them first, and it will be interesting to see who wins.

SallyAnn-4595694--Here we walk the tightrope. On the one hand, as you say, it's a blood feud that goes back forever and is not going to be resolved except by blood. I would love to lock these people responsible in a room and let them DIE. But OTOH, if we allow such tyranny and violence to rule the day, it WILL come for us sooner. We must remember what previous wars have taught us. By the same token, our leaders must understand that these extremists do not think the same as westerners. They are fully ready to tie bombs to children to win. That is why we have have to act, and carefully. Our government picked a side to attempt to restore order. That it failed is a failure of Syria, not our assistance.

                          1. The Syrian Government is a SECULAR government, not a Wahabist/Salafist hard-line Muslim country. This has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the innocent people's religion or method of practice. It's a freaking inhuman military dictatorship, and although I don't want to see Sharia law imposed there, f**king Assad must die, or this will never stop.

                          2. Go back to school, SallyAnn - you don't know how to use an apostrophe.
