6.9 magnitude quake strikes near Japanese island

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 struck near the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

There were no early reports of casualties or damage. There was no tsunami warning following the quake.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported the magnitude of the quake at 6.4.

Japanese media said police had received no reports of damage shortly after the quake. A nuclear power plant in northern Japan reported no problems after the quake, according to local Japanese media.

The epicenter of the quake was reportedly about 38 miles south east from the town of Obihiro.

The island is about 500 miles north of Tokyo.

Reuters contributed to this report.

How about a heat wave in Northeast, Jesus? We are freezing. Or am supposed to ask Mother Nature? I'm confused. Someone please tell Al Gore that we need some global warming here. If anyone is listening, send some warmer weather...:)

Where did you guys take your science classes? Texas? Try reading up on the tectonic plates to learn about the earthquakes. A little reading on global warming will show you that changes in climate caused by global warming will cause extremes in both hot and cold weather based on changing weather patterns.

If that doesn't work for you, try reading Greek Mythology. Their explanations are a lot more interesting than the bible's.

It was a little jerk-off motion like a booty shake. My cat named Jack Schlong started to pound his @!$%# very gently. I was on the outside and the people started to run and scream like zombies: Cum outside, Cum outside!!! So I freak in and I cum inside the home. The first thing I tried to find was my little puppet named Hardon. Then when I found it I fall asleep with my Hardon.

I could stand a little global warming right now.

Just this week we have experienced wind chills of -50 and about 15 mins ago the North Dakota DOT closed down Interstate 94 from Bismarck to Dickinson (Approximately 100 miles or so) due to white-out blizzard conditions.

tectonic plates or not - the bible gave it to you 2,000 years before it happened. That and something to do with mockers and hate, one world govt (coming soon to a formally free country near you) knowledge based economy, etc etc... the point the first post made is that this trouble will pale in comparison. america has barely tasted the troubles the rest of the world has.

if God wanted them to become quakers, they might not kill girl babies and then the men wouldn't have to sleep with pillows and call them girlfriends! It seems a step up to me!

A friend of a friend was in Japan and he was craving donuts in a really bad way. He walked around for miles and finally found a convenience store in Japan that sold single donuts in plastic packages. Gratefully, he bought one and then he hastily tore open the plastic package and bit into the donut, only to find that tuna was inside the donut. The guy said he almost cried. lol.

It's been more than a few years now, but I remember Mr. Donut being in Japan and seems to me I recall seeing them in multiple cities. Japanese confectioneries generally aren't very sweet. There were a few types I recall being pretty good, just not quite a sweet as we are used to here.

I do recall McDonalds fruit pies being pretty good and sweetened closer to our tastes, but I'm not sure they still fruit pies. I just heard recently they've got a potato and bacon pie that's supposed to be really good. Used to love their Teriyaki burgers. Tatsed like the McDonalds sausage patty with teriyaki sauce, lettuce and mayo. I've made my own version using Kroger or WalMart sausage patties that are pretty close the the McDonalds sausage patty. Really good and reminds me of my time in Japan.

Here's what I find funny but alarming at the same time.

Japanese media said police had received no reports of damage shortly after the quake. A nuclear power plant in northern Japan reported no problems after the quake, according to local Japanese media.

These people didn't report anything worth a damn when the first huge tsunami happened so why would they now report any damage or problems from another quake? I wouldn't trust any of these people in charge for anything much less information on damage or radioactivity since there word isn't worth squat.

Good luck to all the people who may live and or work in the area that may be affected by any damage caused by any quake in any area of Japan, your gonna need it. Just watch out for anything that starts to glow or 3 eyed fish!

Obviously you still need said classes. Global warming as it has been portrayed in the last 10 or so years is a farce. Global warming and global cooling trends in of themselves do and have occurred long before any life form walked or swam and will continue to do so. Science has learned a lot, sadly people and agendas tend to make things up to suit a goal or need. The earth will do as it needs to and regulate itself as it always has. If you learned anything from science then you should know levels of the same chemicals were in higher abundance in many different stages of the planet during its 4.5 billion or so years. We have found life in places we previously thought it couldn't exist.

Now having said that i don't think anyone would argue cleaner air and or less pollutants put into our air is a bad thing and that if we all act locally and responsibly for ourselves it can go along way to keeping it a nicer place. Keep in mind though a volcanic eruption or massive earth quake or even a meteor strike care little about any warming or cooling and if we keep expanding at the rate we are as a species we may not have to worry about such things at all but something worse.

Eh - not so much a farce as misunderstood. Climate change has occurred in the past, will occur in the future, no doubt about it. The question is whether mankind has a hand in it now, and 97+% of climate scientists have a consensus that it does. That to me is more significant than the less than 3% that says mankind isn't affecting it because it doesn't suit their immediate needs.

I do agree though - the earth will regulate itself as change occurs. Humanity may not like the results much, though.

They will be having strong quakes for quite a while. The amount of crustal disturbance created by the 2011 event was wide spread. I would not be surprised if 6+ scale earthquakes were common for the next three to four years.

Big deadly quakes may hit Japan main island soon, devastating Toyko and Osaka.
