Police patrol on the beach near a home in Acapulco, Mexico, where masked and armed men broke in and raped six tourists.
A gang of masked men entered a vacation home near the resort city of Acapulco and raped six Spanish tourists, Mexican authorities said Tuesday.
The assailants, brandishing guns, first tied up the men with phone cords and the straps of bathing suits and then raped the women, The Associated Press reported.
A police report, obtained by Prensa Latina, a Cuba-based Latin American news service, said that 15 subjects with ski masks sexually abused the Spanish women, and also stole the belongings of a Mexican national and six Spanish men.
The assault took place Monday in the town of San Andres, Barra Vieja, in the Diamante area of Acapulco.
Acapulco Mayor Luis Walton and the state prosecutor for Guerroro said Mexican federal police were involved in the hunt for those responsible, CNN reported.
"It's a very delicate situation," Walton said at a news conference on Tuesday in which he condemned the attacks. "We are going to have the full weight of the law against those responsible."
Walton admitted the attacks would likely tarnish Acapulco’s image. The Pacific Coast resort city and its beaches are a popular destination for tourists, including American college students on spring break.
Though the number of rapes in the area is unclear, in one weekend in March 2010, at least 13 people were killed in and around Acapulco in apparent drug-gang violence, including four victims found beheaded. And, according to Reuters, some 70,000 people nationwide have been killed in drug-related violence since 2006.
Though millions of people travel to Mexico each year without incident, the U.S. State Department has issued a warning to travelers visiting the country. It says travelers to Mexico should be aware that “crime and violence are serious problems throughout the country and occur anywhere." Travelers to the Acapulco area are urged to exercise caution and stay within tourist areas.

The Central American countries of Costa Rica and Panama are much safer alternative vacation destinations. Or perhaps travelers can try South America. Venezuela, Chile and Ecuador are beautiful this time of year. My suggestion is to avoid Mexico until we end this ridiculous "war on drugs."

Wait a minute....Spring Break is just around the corner and a lot of politican's children have reservations already (with Secret Service security guards).
The Mexican gov't won't do anything serious about the gang violence when it is their own citizens. They won't do anything about it when the violence trickles over the border either. Because of the lack of action these maniacs now act like tourists are fair game.
It is time to put the hurt on the tourist industry down there. Money talks. Then the gov't will be faced with 2 choices: Fall in line and do something or align with the cartels out in the open.
Either way there will be no more ambiguity as far as where their loyalties lie and the US can finally have the ballz to say we have just cause to keep illegals out. If they are attacking tourists then it will only be a matter of time before inner cities in the southwest US start getting attacked.
You know, making drugs illegal was suppose to save lives, so 70,000 mexicans have died and how many gang killings in the US? Thousands. Why not let people kill themselves rather than give them a reason to kill others?
I would be less than surprised to find that the police were involved in the rapes.

Mexico was a good place to visit 20 years ago, you could go and stay on a fraction of what it cost here in the US. Many expat lived there because of the cost of living, and it was reasonably safe. Now, it's a whole different story. I wouldn't go there on a bad bet.

I don't hear daily news stories about the groups of liberals getting slaughtered in Juarez. I don't know enough about the situation to dream of defending the Mexican government,
But where do you think they get their guns from? and were are these gangs selling their drugs?

guns from the US into Mexico.

So the big question is, Why did Holder and Obama start something similar back up? It certainly wasn't done to determine who the kingpins were since they didn't even bother to track the weapons! Why would they do such a thing? Unfortunately, Pres. "Executive Order" squashed any ability to get to the truth by having the relevant docs sealed. Just what you would expect from the most transparent presidency in history. Those with even the lowest of critical thinking skills can see Fast & Furious for what it was, an attempt to foster public opinion for tighter gun control. Even the MSM played into it by running numerous articles on how some 80+% of all guns used by the Mexican drug cartels originated in the US. Interesting how all these articles suddenly came to a screeching halt once the whistle was blown on F&F. Once the media recognized that there was the potential for this to lead back to their golden boy in the White House, the story was burried.

Mexico's problems aren't just their own, there are politicians on our side getting paychecks from the cartels. There is absolutely no other reason why the border is open and unguarded for the most part. People who talk about legalizing drugs are idiots. Weed isn't the problem, Meth and Heroin are. Who wants to smoke Mexican dirtweed for christsakes? The crime related to Meth and Herion use here is a real and a huge problem. Just the amount of Mexican nationals arrested here for transporting and selling, puts a strain on our jails and law enforcement. Add in all the crime from users and the amount of tax dollars dealing with them... it's mind boggling.
Go to Florida ! Texas ! California ! Georgia ! Save a polar bear. The fuel you save instead of going those long distances would help keep carbon out of the air. spending in the US would help the US economy. Let the failed state of Mexico deal with it. Who needs it ?

I feel sorry for all the tourists. It is horrible for the women for being raped, and horrible for the men to see their loved ones raped. Sadly it is a daily event over there, and only made news because the victims were European.

The gangs that are the problem in Chicago don't go to neighboring cities to buy their guns, they are stolen and brought in and sold out of the trunk of a cars in whatever alley all over the city. They aren't purchased legally, the people buying them couldn't purchase them even in neighboring states! Get rid of the gangs in Chicago and you get rid of the illegal guns. You can't make a broad statement about "well regulated" when you are comparing the entire country to Chicago!

Maninjapan, you apparently have no idea what "well-regulated" means. At the time of the writing of the Constitution, it was was a widely used phrase that meant "in good working order", not "controlled by the government".
If gun control actually worked, Chicago and Washington, DC should be shining examples of it considering they have the toughest gun laws in the nation. Chicago and DC are, instead, the gun crime capitols of the country. The fact of the matter is that the areas of our country with the laxest gun laws have the lowest gun crime rates. Criminals don't care what gun laws say, the only people that actually abide by them are the sorts of people who aren't going to go out and commit a violent crime with a gun anyway. Tell me how that makes any of us safer? And never mind the estimated 2 million crimes per year that are thwarted by armed citizens... that doesn't fit in with the gun control agenda.

People; this is about rape victims on vacation in Acapulco. There were Spanish. What does this have to do with Republicans, Democrats, our HALF Black president, etc..? There are beautiful places in Mexico to visit; unfortunately the criminal element is everywhere in this impovorished country, so if you decide to go; be cautious and know that these things happen even in nice tourist resorts. Yes; Costa Rica is supposed to be a very nice place to go; friendly people, beautiful beach vacation spots, and not very expensive.
I have lived and worked in Mexico a lot the last 30 years. You have to be careful just like in lots of places. I still travel there, and I follow the suggestions of the people I am with as far as security even when it seems excessive. As for GTR5 my suggestion is for you to take the white sheet off your head and shove it up your AZZ, you gutless little sissy

Years ago I lived in Mexico and have visited Acapulco many times since I was a child in the 80's and it was fantastic back then. Today I go for business and never leave the resort I stay at for conventions. The Cartels have taken over the state of Guerrero unfortunately and Acapulco is the last safe-haven in that state. Driving outside of the touristy areas of Acapulco is just asking for trouble. The west coast of Mexico is quickly becoming dangerous for tourists and Mexicans alike due to Cartel expansion. Cancun and Huatulco are still good options for tourists that want to go to "safer" Mexican paradises.
If Mexico was boycotted as a tourist destination and nobody went there the Mexican government would clean up the mess.
No.They'd just continue to send their illegal immigrants across the border as they are encouraging, sponsoring, and supporting them in that effort now (Mexican Consulate).

Your premise is that America pulling drugs caused it all. Drugs is as much a consequence as a cause. Where do we begin? Easier ( and somewhat helpful) to remove a material thing like drugs than to remove a mental need for drugs. If drugs are generated in Mexico, then why not have the Mexicans take care of that end? I'm against exploiting Mexicans in this country. I think legal people should get the jobs, get paid better wages, stimulate the economy and help Mexican tourism and economy because they could afford it. Heck they might even do less drugs and crime in this country if they could get work that pays decently. Mexico is beautiful in most places that are not run down with poverty. This whole situation is BS and just out of balance.
I don't demand cheap Mexican labor. I want legal normally priced labor. I like Mexicans in Mexico. I found them happier there. And I bet if it was possible, overall they'd rather be there too.
Legalizing drugs will not put the cartels out of business, it will only cut into their profit. Take cigarettes for example, the bulk of the cost is taxes. I didn't mind paying the tax when it was fair, now it's obscene, therefore I buy my smokes on the black market from SE Asia and pay less than half of retail. The cartels will only lower prices to beat that of the so called fair market. Our government is too greedy to place a fair and equitable tax on drugs. And rest assured only some politician or his cronies will be permitted to be an approved drug "importer/distributor". Does the name Kennedy ring a bell?

Well, the extra taxes might help offset all the money hospitals have to spend on tracheotomies. A lot of states sued the cigarettes companies over health care costs a few years ago. Regardless of what the travel agencies tell you, Mexico is as dangerous, if not more so, than Pakistan, Afghanistan or Iran at present. It's just not worth going there.

Got mucho tiempo in Mexighanistan, not as bad as the-bought-and-paid-for media, who don't live among the locals, make it to be. Be-headings si. Seen many times more elsewhere. Still rotten to the core? Yes. If you don't understand how a POS government works, don't go. If you can't communicate in their language, don't go. If you're unwilling to live among the folks who don't have a say as to how their lives will play, don't go. I had three goats, six camels and was speaking a mix of Dari and Pesh. Not to mention six months without a bath! I've been to craphole nations across the globe where Uncle sent me. Southeast Asia, Africa, Central America, the Balkans to the Middle East $hitholes. I speak four languages other than English. I've seen dumb asses vacationing in Somalia, Syria, A-Stan and P-Stan, Rwanda etc. and can't see any reason why they do! Go figure. I go to Mexighanistan repeatedly and there's no comparison to Honduras, El Salvador or Nicaragua. Mexico is tons better. I guess what I am saying is that in America we have a habit of travelling outside our soil to other countries yet we still call them foreigners and talk about their accents. I'm not sure if this makes any sense to you, but only citizens can vote. These 11.5 million you speak of had no impact on the past election. The only people busted for voter fraud were white republicans.
Only legal citizens can vote in the states that required ID be shown at the polling stations anyway. There were plenty of Democrats caught and prosecuted for trying to vote multiple times. You just don't here about it in the MSM.
Last year I met an American expat who lives in Mexico. He said that there are about 500k Mexicans deported from the US to Mexico each year. If what he told me is accurate, deportations are happening in large numbers.
This agrees with other news articles I've read that indicate that 1) fewer Mexicans are leaving their country to come to the US because it's not as lucrative as it once was, and 2) deported Mexicans are having difficulty adjusting to life back in their native country because they often never learned Spanish (especially if they arrived in the US when they were young).
Jane, no one has deported more illegals than the Obama administration. That ex-pat is on que. At DMAFB in Tucson a huge INS facility was built to house those being deported. The Obama administration moved to have this clearing house built when all previous presidents including Clinton refused. I know southern Arizona and the northern half of Mexico better than most folks know their neighborhood. Got decades of real working experience on this subject and that of the Narco-life and I'll tell you that the days of housing illegals forever went out the window. They get processed, loaded into contract busses and shipped to el otro lado (the other side) mighty quick! I've never seen so many busses on I-19 South to Nogie (Nogales) and Douglas/Agua Prieta these last two years! So when you hear that the Obama administration isn't doing anything about illegals, I'll tell you the numbers being deported speaks for itself. I didn't vote for him but the job is being done! I know folks who drive the busses for the contractors hired to transport the illegals back to Mexighanistan. One is a neighbor and is one of many sources of info. Got lots of family on both sides of the issue, both sides of the border and both sides of the law. A big chunk of those being deported will always return to be deported again.

El wrongo Gringo! I live in La Paz, Baja and often drive from Nogales to Los Moches and get on the ferry to La Paz. I have had NO problema in all the years I have been living here and traveling along the west coast of Mexico. i would suggest that the Mexican state department issue a warning to its citizens who might be vacationing (or even sneaking into) in the USA. They might say "even an average citizen is packing heat" or something like that. If you are an anglo US citizen you will have no problem where ever you go in Mexico. If you are "Mexican" or have relatives here (Mexico) you may be more likely to have some problems - but, most Mexicans who travel to resort cities or even Mexico City have no problems. God God, look at the crime rate in the US! I worry more about traveling through Tucson and Phoenix and the rest of Arizona than Nogales.

A turn of the head and there was another policeman with a shotgun. The French Canadians spoke Spanish and said the two policemen wanted $10.00. The FC paid. They told us the night before a fellow was dragging a stick along a fence while drunk and the police shot him dead. To not mess around down there. In the 70's, two Canadian couples were shot dead during the day as they were walking in the Acapulco resort area. Acapulco was never safe and has only gotten worst. I will pray for those poor people.
