Subscribe to RSSMexico has arrested six men who confessed to the rape of six female Spanish tourists in Acapulco, a crime that drew global attention to the popular Mexican resort.
"We have six detainees who have confessed, totally confessed," Mexican Attorney General Jesus Murillo said on Wednesday at a news conference in Acapulco.
Early on Feb. 4, hooded gunmen forced their way into a beach house the women rented, roughed up their seven male companions and raped the women.
Murillo said one of the suspects was apprehended on Tuesday, and the other five were detained overnight. Local officials said there was physical evidence that implicated the suspects.
Acapulco Mayor Luis Walton set off a media storm when he downplayed the seriousness of the attack, saying it could have happened "anywhere in the world," and that it hurt the image of the city, one of Mexico's most famous tourist destinations.
Acapulco is the biggest city in the state of Guerrero, which has been increasingly plagued by drug-related violence, prompting some exasperated residents in small towns to form "community police" forces.
The violence turned Acapulco into the murder capital of Mexico last year, with more than 1,000 murders reported by Mexican media in the city of approximately 800,000 people.
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has vowed to reduce the violence that soared after his predecessor Felipe Calderon launched an assault on drug cartels.
Pena Nieto, who launched a program to boost tourism on Wednesday, pledged to create a new militarized police force and increase spending on security to cut crime.
"We will keep working to improve public security conditions, which, without a doubt, is a fundamental and indispensable condition for the development and promotion of our country," Pena Nieto said in the beach resort of Bahia de Banderas in the state of Nayarit.

Again, we are not looking at the problem here...Yeah, Mexico is a rough place...especially for women...so is the USA...so is our HOMES...There is a WAR ON WOMEN people...What is wrong with some/many men when they feel the need to be violent or rape? It happens in family homes, behind closed doors, our small towns and yes in our cities...WOMEN suffer entirely too much due to men...Ladies- be smart and learn self-defense AND empower yourselves...it cannot hurt...And men- get it together please...what is WRONG with your gender????

Mexico had better increase their security before criminal activity invades their resort areas. Most people that I know feel safe in these tourist areas, but a few incidents such as this can leave them with ghost towns.

What is wrong woth our gender. As an old goat that abhors any violence to women, and children, the truth of the matter is your rapist is usually an insecure little scumbag, that probably got his butt beat, or bullied in school as a kid, he can only go after the ones that he can beat. In comes the woman part. I agree with you completely on the empowerment. I wish we had a law where if a woman works late, or is out late, should have the right to carry a stun gun. Have it at the ready at all times while walking, then they can take control, keep stunning him until the police arrive, then mozy on your way. The actual act of rape is their total empowerment, their chance to get back at everyone and everything that ever pissed them off. Immature little Sh*ts should be neutered, or castrated (depending on how they swing) and incarcerated. Just my personal take on things.............
If you are a tourist the whole world is dangerous because you don't know the area, here in the city i know what streets or neighborhoods to avoid at different times of day, I know what kind of @!$%# happens or who commits the crimes, when you are a tourist you are at the mercy of the criminals.
The key is to educate yourself (know what to expect when you go out), be smart and be aware of your surroundings. Many tourists don't do these basic things.
I have traveled extensively all over the world (including most of the Middle East) and I have never had a problem with criminals. Admittedly I probably have a better than average ability to adapt. But people who travel really do need to adhere to these three guidlines.
FYI I currently live and work in China. It was a little dificult to adapt at first but it didn't take long. Mostly because I followed the three rules above.
Mexico is very quickly going to the bottom of places to see.

Always wanted and had planned to go to Mexico for a weeks vacation. After the last few years there is NO CHANCE of me ever going there now.

I am so sick of hearing about criminals hurting women. I wish for cases of brutal rape cases or women who are tortured we could have either castration and life in prison or a death penalty. The rapists could choose which they prefer.

I am skeptical about these 6 men being the rapists - I think they may have grabbed 6 guys, probably poor, and "persuaded" them that they were guilty. Down here in Florida, when tourists get mugged or whatever, the cops take it seriously - seems more seriously than when a tax paying resident is a crime victim. When you depend on tourism, you have to keep them coming. It gets bad press back in their home country, discourages others from coming.

There is no risk, the police there are a joke, and corrupt... Skip Mexico, they all want to come to America, everything is free in America, that want to be in America... so do the Puerto Ricans, oh I am sorry, I meant the Latino's even though puerto rico is not part of lain America, want to be PC.

Mexico is dying as a tourist country, it is riddled with Major Drug Cartels, has corrupted police and prisons, and do not protect our Tourist or other countries, pick another location. I have been there 4 times, but no more, last time was in Cabo San Jose, nice quiet town. But Mexicans are still bandits. Last time it was there cab drivers, I sent there for dental work.

I have to agree about the fast confessions, remember the friendly fire incident a few months back. Said they caught them, then ballistasts showed it was friendly fire, real good police work down there in Mexico.
As far as the blacks committing the vast majority of crimes, compared to their numbers, you have to be blind and deaf and living in your on world to not see, read and hear the truth.
They speak Spanish or that's what it is called, a little different than what they use in Spain, which is part of Europe. People, if you want to risk your life then by all means travel to Mexico. The State Department has put out numerous warnings, and the military has put out restrictions on their personnel about going to Mexico.

Probably just scapegoats. This crap hole country just wants to make tourists believe it is safe to make some coin. If they ever catch the scumbags, death is too easy. Will not go back and no teens for spring break.
I don't believe this for a second. Those who confessed probably were offered money and other benefits to fess up.
Officials only care about saving their tourism. Don't get a false sense of security over this arrest. There are a whole lot of destinations that are safe to vacation at.
Getting back to this crime. I find it awfully suspicious that one of the women who is Mexican was not raped. I think the investigation should examine if she had any relationship to the perps. This woman could have been envious of her Spanish friends and wanted revenge. That might not be the case but that scenario cannot be ignored.

Two of the men that were arrested were already under investgation because of another rape.
I live in northern California. I share a duplex with a Mexican family. A mother and her four children. The oldest boy is about fourteen. They keep a pitbull (I think it belongs to her boyfriend) in the common laundry area. The dog is sweet, but I have to use my foot to push it back everytime I want to use the laundry room. The dog clearly has never been trained in any way and has become a pain. The other day, I told her we had been having problems using the laundry room because of her dog. She looked at me and said..."Oh."

and you wonder why are prisons have the most mexicans in it.because all they know what to do in our country is sell drugs,rape young gals(12 and 13),have babies and never pay child support and marry all the fat white woman.lets try to bring back the white and kick these bastards back home........

So these enlightened tourists from Spain decided to visit a place that had 1000 murders last year in a country that's just as dangerous Afghan-Paki border region and they expected what? Some people have common sense, others learn from the mistakes of other people and then there's the common idiot. They should have gone to New Providence island instead.
