Iran vows to exact revenge on Israel over killing of commander in Syria

DUBAI - Iran will soon exact revenge on Israel for the recent killing of a Revolutionary Guards commander in Syria, an aide to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was quoted on Saturday as saying.

Iran said on Thursday that an Iranian military commander named Hessam Khoshnevis, also called Hassan Shateri in some news accounts, had been killed in Syria by rebels fighting President Bashar al-Assad, an ally of Tehran.

Syrian rebels accuse Iran's Revolutionary Guard of sending forces to help Assad crush their 22-month-old uprising, a charge denied by the Islamic Republic.

Details of Khoshnevis's killing are sketchy and various accounts have emerged. But Iran's envoy to Beirut Ghazanfar Roknabadi on Thursday drew a link between his killing and Israel.

Ali Shirazi, the representative of Khamenei to the Guards' elite Quds force, said on Friday evening Iran's "resolve against Israel" had only grown stronger with Khoshnevis's killing.

"Our enemies should also know that we will quickly get revenge for (the death of) Haj Hassan (Shateri) from the Israelis, and the enemies cannot shut off the Iranian people with such stupid acts," Shirazi was by the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) on Saturday as saying.

A look back at the conflict that has overtaken the country.

Israel has not commented on the killing.

Israel has hinted at military action against Iran if Tehran continues with a nuclear program which Israel says is aimed at developing a weapon. Iran says its program is peaceful.

Israel is believed to be the Middle East's only nuclear-armed state.

The Revolutionary Guards media office said this week that Khoshnevis had been "martyred on his way from Damascus to Beirut by mercenaries".

The state news agency IRNA said Khoshnevis was a military engineer during the 1980-88 conflict between Iran and Iraq, and had later worked in Afghanistan.

Officials stressed Khoshnevis had been engaged in civilian reconstruction in Lebanon for the last seven years. Iran backs the Lebanese Shi'ite movement Hezbollah, which fought a brief war with Israel seven years ago and allied with Assad.

It seems like endless killings, hostilities, warmongering and some people call present age progress ????I call it -back to barbarism. Lebanon not long ago was a nice ,prosperous place. The killings, the hostilities destroyed it. Insane people full of greed run this world and all we see is human misery and destruction. I hope the financial tsunami which is on the way will at least bring change. If not, WW III will bring peace to the MIddle East for a thousand years.

Go for it Iran, and you might find out that you bit off more than you can chew. Other Arab nations, at one time or another, tried taking on Israel, and we know what happen to them. The Arabs got their butts kicked. But I have a feeling if you give Israel a chance, they may wipe out the religious nuts running the show in Iran.

And at the same time, they may wipe out the terrorists in a couple of other countries who have been causing Israel some minor problems in the recent past.

In fact, I kind of hope Israel would just go in and kick some serious camel jockey butts, and solve a lot of the worlds problems with these terrorists.

Stop bullying Israel, then.

They are surrounded by bullying Muslim nations.

What do you expect?

Or let me rephrase - what would you do? Just sit there and take it?

When can the killings stop? Chaos and more Chaos. Enough already. TIME OUT! These things must come to an end. What in the world is wrong with the world leaders today? A lot is wrong with them all I say. More wrong than right especially when they operate in each others internal state affairs. Everyone needs to clean up their own act and focus on their own nations wants and needs. Stop trying to change others and make changes yourself. I guess since this has been going on so long the leaders have become numb in sense and how to act so they can resolve the issues each other faces. The world would stop if we didn't have enemies? I say the world would be better off with fewer or even none at all. What a waste of life, time and expense. So many suffer because of what is happening. The average people in the world deserve better. Everyone deserves to live in peace and have security without threat and fear. Shame on the human race for not being able to figure it out. I see the need to call an order for a world wide truce. I see a need to set a goal governing above all other issues. First and foremost the goal is PEACE to and for all. If the governing processes can not pass this test first nothing will ever get done. But! If the governing processes mandate Peace first then the risk and threats will reduce to a reasonable level that all nations will be able to begin the process and move forward. I expect mankind can do this if there is the will. The leaders of nations must have the willingness first. World peace and security I think is achievable. To have the ability to achieve this world leaders must have the will to do so first. They must demand of themselves that all will come and go in the way of peace. It is time to stand down the armies and lay down the weapons against one another. It is time to stop the lies and acts of hate. It is time to recognize everyone is not the same and never will be. It is time to give respect so that we will receive respect to get along. Even with the differences both large and small. There is much more we each are similar with in wants and needs to live. It only takes a willingness with tolerance and understanding to understand. A good question everyone should ask one another is this. Do you want to live in peace? Simple YES or NO. Without the will to live in peace there can only be death and destruction. With PEACE there will be a future for everyone. Death and killing must not be any part of the answer.

Tell that to the religious zealots that rule Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria, etc... and believe that all that do not follow the crap in the Koran must be subjugated and killed.

As we study history, we learn that the leaders were in the front of the action, now leaders sit back and use innocent people to slaughter each other for monetary and religion seems to be the perfect excuse in that region

The human race (homo-stupid) because it's at the top of the food chain, is the only animal that kills for game sake, all the other kill for food when needed.

That is not true..Dogs kill for sport, cats will kill for sport, dolphins kill redfish here in florida for sport, every other animal on earth will kill to defend itself if it can. So your assumption is based on what you think you know, and that doesn't seem to be a lot

I have no use for any religion that condones mindless violence, Islam, Christian, Jewish whatever. The problem is that we have idiots on both sides ready to kill anyone who they deem a non believer.

Vow revenge? Isn't this a bit redundant? Ahmadinejad has already stated that Israel "must be wiped out from the map of the world." I thought that that was revenge, but maybe I'm wrong? I'm not sure how you get more revengeful. Maybe in the afterlife, you slay everyone again? Kind of like revenge being a dish served cold. He needs to throw it up and eat it again, so he can really enjoy it. I think the Iranians need to take up hobbies. They need something more constructive than just HATE. How about a science project? Oh yeah - they already have one hidden in the mountains...

How many Pakistanis were killed at the vegetable market this week by an Islamic extremist? Where are the Iranians condemning that? And it happens week after week, year after year. Of course, it could not be taking place unless it was Allah's will, right!

Blast targets Shiites in Pakistani market

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistani police have revised the cause of a blast that killed 83 people on Saturday, saying a suicide bomber was behind the attack that pulverized a busy marketplace.

The explosion targeted Shiite Muslims in Hazara, on the outskirts of the southwestern city of Quetta, authorities said.

Police now say a suicide bomber, driving an explosive-laden water tanker, rammed the vehicle into buildings at the crowded marketplace.

The water tanker carried between 800 and 1,000 kilograms (1,760 to 2,200 pounds) of explosive material, Quetta police official Wazir Khan Nasir said.

Previously, police said explosives were packed in a parked water tanker and were remotely detonated.

The blast demolished four buildings of the marketplace, leaving dozens dead and 180 injured.

The banned Sunni militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the attack, spokesman Abu Bakar Sadeeq told CNN Sunday.

The assault left some wondering what could stop the bloodshed in Quetta.

Zulfiqar Ali Magsi, the governor and chief executive of Balochistan province, told reporters Saturday that law enforcement agencies were incapable of stopping such attacks and had failed to maintain law and order in Quetta.

Pakistan, which is overwhelmingly Sunni, has been plagued by sectarian strife and attacks for years.

Last month, two deadly suicide bombings in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood of Quetta known as Alamdar Road killed 85 Shiite Muslims.

Police described that double bombing as one of the worst attacks on the Shiite minority.

Lashkar-e-Jhangvi also claimed responsibility for that dual attack.

According to its interpretation of Islam, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi believes that Shiites are not Muslims. The group believes Shiites insult close companions of Muslim's prophet Muhammad. Therefore, the militant group believes killing Shiites is a justified in Islam.

The attack was against Shi`ites. The country of Iran is mostly all Shia, Persians. They aren't going to mess with Pakistan. Pakistan is an acronym. It stands for Pushtun Afghani Kashmiri Iranian - land. They may have killed the Revolutionary Guard guy themselves. Who knows. Any excuse at all to threaten Israel with their punks the Hezbolah is good enough. Iran is too well-connected with Pakistan.
