Iran conducts tests to bring down 'hypothetical' drones

LONDON — Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had conducted tests aimed at bringing down a "hypothetical" foreign surveillance drone during a military exercise, the official Fars news agency said on Saturday.

The Islamic Republic News Agency, another official news agency, also reported the exercise, but omitted the word hypothetical giving the impression that a real drone had been downed.

Other official Iranian media outlets later referred to the downing of a "hypothetical" aircraft.

In the past, there have been incidents of Iran claiming to have seized U.S. drones.

In early January Iranian media said Iran had captured two miniature U.S.-made surveillance drones over the past 17 months.

Several drone incidents over the past year or so have highlighted tension in the Gulf as Iran and the United States flex their military capabilities in a standoff over Iran's disputed nuclear program.

Iran said in January that lightweight RQ11 Raven drones were brought down by Iranian air defense units in separate incidents in August 2011 and November 2012.

I know the United States can defend its weapons from anything that, not hypothetically, Iran may try to send against it. Not to mention, that drones the United States does use, are designed to explode, so there is no usable parts or information that can be gathered.

However, according to Iran, hypothetically, it would always announce it scored a direct hit against an American drone. But only hypnotically. Of course the word hypothetically would be removed from all news sources of military information when published to its population. Can't have folks believing their country is anything but the greatest on earth. Not hypothetically, of course. Just can't imagine the what that day will look like, when Iran finally enters into war. For its only a matter of when and drones start falling from the sky.You can bet the expressions of its peoples faces won't be hypothetical shock.

John, the curse is the religion and not the people. Israel without Jews and Iran without Muslims would be a great first step me thinks.

OK. Let's send then some hypothetical drones to try and bring down. Those drones should be designed to fly one way into Iranian airspace and explode as soon as they are approached by personnel on the ground. That way we can also test to see if Iran is still lying about bringing US drones down. Maybe we could also have them disperse testosterone blockers and aerosol valium so the Iranians will calm down a little.

I think that Iran is trying to become enormous supplier of Electricity from nuclear plants in the middle east. There is a shortage of that commodity and if they do it'll be much worse for outside nations to have any effect.

Time to put a nuke in a drone that is designed to detonate only at 100 feet above ground level and intentionally have it circle over Iran at 105 feet so they can "bring it down"....... OOPS - sorry, we forgot to mention that our drones are now nuclear powered....to bad about that half of your country. Maybe your little fruitcake buddy in North Korea will rebuild it for you.

I hope we are working on stealth drones, since these drones can serve as targeting drones using onboard laser targeting systems, which can dramatically improve the speed and efficiency of any future military engagements with the help of smart warheads and smart bombs. Six day wars could easily become two or three day wars with the combined help of these advanced warfare systems. - RC

Emmy-winning journalist, Shad Olson, explores the controversy over U.S. drone policy, both at home and abroad.

While technological sky supremacy gives America strategic superiority on the battlefield, the prospect of drone proliferation over U.S. cities is causing concern about loss of privacy, an end to Habeas Corpus and judicial due process and the destruction of Constitutional rights.

South Dakota U.S. Senator John Thune and former U.S. Senate candidate, Sam Kephart share their views about the consequences of domestic drone deployment in the fight against terrorism.

I'm am sure the Iranians used their special unicorn camel flying carpet dung V immobilizer to bring down this alien probe drone.
