Former Egypt dictator Mubarak faces April re-trial

Secretary of State John Kerry is in Cairo, Egypt to meet with government and opposition leaders as well as business and civil rights leaders while on a nine-day trip overseas. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

CAIRO - The re-trial of former Egypt’s former president Hosni Mubarak, who was deposed in the Arab Spring revolution of 2011, will begin Apr. 13, it was announced Sunday.

Mubarak’s former interior minister and six other former government officials will also face re-trial on the same date, Egypt's Appeals Court said.

The announcement came as Secretary of State John Kerry was due to meet Egypt's new president, Mohamed Morsi, and senior figures in Cairo as part of his first foreign trip.

Some critics say the U.S. is not changing its policy in Egypt, choosing to back Islamists instead of democracy and human rights. NBC's Ayman Mohyeldin reports.

Mubarak, 84, was jailed for life last year for his role in the death of protesters killed by security forces who were trying to thwart the revolution.

Earlier this year, a court granted Mubarak and his co-accused a re-trial.

The former western-backed leader was ousted in February 2011 after three decades in power.

He has been living in a military prison after being taken ill during his first trial.

Welcome to Egypt. Show trials will take the public's attention of what is truly happening on the ground. Purges large and small- governorates given to Muslim Brotherhood and Salafist Noirs- economy already in the tank- media run by MB- critisizing Pres.Morsy a criminal offense (jailtime). Safety in railways, roads almost non-existant. No jobs-although Jama'al Islamaya are now the ipso facto 'security people' on the ground (the old Ayman al-Zawahiri bunch of terrorists). Women, seculars and Copts have lost all their reights under the MB. Ask yourself, why Egypt's opposition refused to meet with Secr. of State Kerry- because Pres.Obama told them to take part in the elections which are so skewed against them on every level- (ballot/slates tampering is the word) intimidation- death fatwas for El Baredei et al and Pres.Obama demands the opposition take part.Former President Mubarak and others in his administration (after trials and sentences) must be made the centerpiece of attention in order for the totalitarian MB/Nour to wrest the rest of the state institutions and rule . Read Weimar Republic and the Nazis- their way to total power.

There seem to be a lot of "buyers remorse" in Egypt these days. Mubark could even be returned to power.

That is why the "new" Egypt has got to kill him. I hope the army steps in to protect Mubark.

"Mubarak’s former interior minister and six other former government officials will also face re-trial on the same date, Egypt's Appeals Court said."

Mubarak used to win with more than 90 percent of votes.

Morsi and his Sunni Muslim Bloodhounds, despite all sorts of rigging, could not manage more than 65 percent.

Army should step in and try these Morsi and his seventh century desert mindset haters and killers, Saudi proxies MB and Salaffi.

It will be saving sane Egyptian Muslims, females, Christians and minority sect/tribe Muslims.

Mubarak was a far better leader than these seventh century Islamists.

John Kerry should not encourage and give legitimacy by meeting Morsi and his team of hating and killing Islamists.

No tax monies as economic assistance either.

We should not trust a word of what they say.

All sane Egyptians including army should join hands and throw away haters and killers, Morsi and his team.

These Islamists will invent enemies; start hating them; and them killing them in the name of Islam!

They will give the excuse of cleaning Islam!

So, the Muslim Brotherhood did not get the result they wanted from the first trial -- the death penalty -- so they are going to try Mubarack again and this time they should get the death penalty. Of course, they need to make it look like they did things legally, but just like any other Muslim terrorists regime, they can do what they want to anyone, regardless of whether there is a real trial or not. They could also shoot Mubarack and his cronies in the back and say they were shot trying to escape. These people are not Muslim. They are terrorist, pure and simple, and we should not be dealing with them through governmental channels.

He doesn't look so bad now, does he. But they are MUSLIM. Islam is a religion of hate and kangaroo court sharia justice

We're going to wind up with the same political result in Syria. The only difference is that the winner of the Syria conflict is going to stab Iran in the back. Oh well, a little bad with a heck of a lot of good...what are you going to do.
