Henke Pistorius (second left), seen in court here with his son Oscar (right), claimed the family had guns for protection and attacked South Africa's ANC government over crime levels.
The father of "Blade Runner" Oscar Pistorius — the Olympic star accused of murdering his girlfriend — has been accused of racism after he claimed the family needed guns to protect themselves because they could not rely on South Africa's police.
Speaking to the U.K.’s Telegraph newspaper, Henke Pistorius criticized the government over crime rates in the country. His comments were attacked by the ruling ANC party and quickly disowned by the rest of the Pistorius family.
Police say they register more than 15,000 murders a year in South Africa, which has one of the highest homicide rates in the world, according to the United Nations.
"Some of the [family’s] guns are for hunting and some are for protection, the handguns," Henke Pistorius told The Telegraph. "It speaks to the ANC government, look at white crime levels, why protection is so poor in this country, it's an aspect of our society."
He added: "You can't rely on the police, not because they are inefficient always but because crime is so rife."
Oscar Pistorius, famous for becoming the first person to run in both the Paralympics and Olympics, said in a written statement read to a court last month that he had fatally shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day after mistaking her for an intruder.
His father’s mention of "white crime levels" and the lack of protection from the government sparked an angry reaction from the ANC, which has been in power since the country’s first democractic elections in 1994, following the fall of apartheid.
ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu told The Associated Press that it "rejects with contempt" any suggestion that the government doesn't adequately protect white South Africans against crime.
"Not only is this statement devoid of truth, it is also racist," Mthembu said in a statement. "It is sad that he has chosen to politicize a tragic incident that is still fresh in the minds of those affected and the public."
It was a long and emotional week for Pistorius, who is accused of premeditated murder in the death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius must surrender his passport and cannot return to his home, which was the scene of the shooting. NBC's Michelle Kosinski reports.
Oscar Pistorius and the rest of his family issued a statement headlined "Pistorius family distances itself from Henke Pistorius’s comments in U.K. newspaper."
The statement said the sports star’s family were "deeply concerned about the comments made by Oscar’s father, Henke Pistorius" about the family using guns to defend themselves and "especially about his comments that the ANC government is not willing to protect white South Africans."
Arnold Pistorius, the Olympian's uncle, was quoted as saying "the Pistorius family own weapons purely for sport and hunting purposes."
"Henke’s interview with the newspaper was unapproved by our media liaison team," he said. "The comments doesn’t [sic] represent the views of Oscar or the rest of the Pistorius family."
However, in his February statement to the court, Pistorius said he slept with his 9 mm handgun under his bed because "I have also been a victim of violence and of burglaries before."
The South African Police Service's National Firearms Center said Pistorius registered the 9 mm for self-defense. Police issued him with his gun license on Sept. 10, 2010.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Harrison Ford is the "Bladerunner," this footless psycho needs a new nickname.
How about "Stumpy?"
Looks like the NRA has gotten a new spokesperson. His comments sound about the same as what we have been hearing from them in the past though.
The truth is very often called all sorts of names by people who don't like it.
Don G ; Hey, I think you have a real idea here. This guy could bounce around on a stage and dodge all of the incoming intelligent questions.
South Africa is one of the most dangerous places on the planet. Since Apartheid ended crime has skyrocketed. I know many South Africans that have moved to the US to get away from the violence. Three things you must have to live in SA. A 7 foot high wall around your house with concertina wire and broken glass at the top, dogs, and guns. Not racist. Just the facts.
Just a couple of observations:
1) In a recent story about South African policemen dragging a taxi driver behind a police van and later beating him to death, it was pointed out that South African policemen are among the most poorly trained in the world.
2) There is also a huge disparity between a handfull of blacks and a large number of whites who are well off and the huge number of blacks who simply have no access to anything except endless poverty. In situations where there are wide disparities based on skin color, there are also ewxtremely high crime rates because the very poor seldom see any other access to "bling" other than crime. This is not just in South Africa, but elsewhere in the world as well.
3) In a world where there are 6 homicides per 100,000 people per year, the USA has 4.8 and South Africa has 31.8. For comparison, Canada has 1.6, Great Britain has 1.2, Japan has 0.4, Turkey has 3.3, Palestine has 4.1, and Israel has 2.1. South Africa really stands out as a seriously crime-ridden country where walking in the streets is a huge risk.
4) I occasionally run into South African academics. They seem to always be surprised at the number of "cuffers" (kaffirs) on faculty at the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) and at the number of African-American students. They seem to assume that Alabama is like South Africa with its "quiet Apartheid." It is really unnerving to have one of these people pull you aside and tell you how "cuffers" are not capable of higher education and telling you how much of a waste it is to try to educate them. It just grosses me out, especially when you consider that these are the educated elite of the country.
I remember the old South Africa, when it was still called RSA, just like I remember Rhodesia, the second richest country in Africa, before it was destroyed by Mugabe and his monkeys. What a waste...
The "Night of the Zulu".
South Africa has squandered its vast wealth(much like the U.S.) , it was once the bread basket of southern Africa; it now must import vast amounts of food to feed it's people, the once beautifully city's are now so crime ridden, that those that can afford it(blacks and whites), are living in fortress compounds.
Chris- I am from South Africa and would never talk that way.
It is ignorant to list your personal experience as fact and assume everyone
feels that way. Maybe you should ask yourself why you attract ignorant people
and why they feel you would be an ear for their racist remarks.
Chris, there is in SA, just as there is in the U.S., a segment of blacks that are educated, own businesses, work in career professions and do not live in poverty. However, just as in the U.S. that is no guarantee of competence, esp. by those in law enforcement and municipal govt., nor is it any protection from corruption - just as in many U.S. urban cities. That is to what Mr. Pistorius was referring. It is not racist to accurate assess a situation when it is fact, be it SA or in the U.S. Whether incompetent, corrupt law enforcement combined with widespread predatory violent crime led to Oscar Pistorius owning guns and then the killing of Ms. Steenkamp is now for the court.
However, if one would examine South Africa's crime statistics, one would discover that this exactly the truth. Consequently, any mention of this fundamental truth is met with shrill claims of racism.
There's a very good reason why the business of personal armed security is thriving in South Africa, and it is mainly the white population, under constant threat of assault, that needs this security.
Polkster - thank you! I've known several (white) South Africans over the last couple of decades and have never heard anyone spout that type of garbage. In fact, one of them refused to business with a prospect because of racist comments that he made (about Native Indians).
You can tell by just looking at him that he's a racist prick...
There's a good ol saying, "once a racist, always a racist".... no amount of apologizing and tiptoeing around the issue can change one's core...
Here in SC we have a good number of Afrikaneers. Some of the most arrogant and prejudiced people I have ever met. I was shocked at the way they attacked Obama at a party I attended. It was even worse than some of Tea Partiers I have heard. One described the president as a "savage". And these are often people who stole wealth from South Africa made from the labor of others. They fled when apartheid was instituted. They simply immigrated here and became Republicans. Some of them moved their entire companies.
I think Pistorious is guilty as hell. None of the evidence supports his story. The first investigator must have been on the dole. At best the defendant is guilty of voluntary manslaughter. Because even if that were a burglar, he had that burglar trapped in a small space and at gunpoint. And he had security available not far away. This guy was likely one of the best protected people in that entire country. His father is full of --it!
Not just concertina wire but electrified concertina wire.
@ Polkster goeie middag
I think the word "racist" is perhaps more overused than the "F-word"! Such overuse dilutes it's true meaning. Additionally, those who expect the police to guard them are sadly naive. I have little knowledge as to the circumstances of this tragic incident, but there does seem to be a lot of heavily fortified homes there.
Chris, point 4, you can't judge an entire country by the comments of a few, a few people do not represent the intellectual elite of a country. In the past South Africa had an outstanding education system, although I don't know how it is now.
Sadly, Woodysr, I have to agree with you. I've heard accusations of RACISM!!!!! for things like not going to the bar for Cinco de Mayo or not wanting to stand outside for hours for the last inauguration.
Not only over-used, but inappropiately used.
This is just too damn stupid.
Only a racist sees racism everywhere. This guy is saying the SA cops suck so bad he feels the need to be armed. So rather then hide behind the knee jerk 'racist card' bovine excrement what we should ask is; IS HE RIGHT??? Well, The cop investigating his son is under investigation for multiple attempted murders, The cops in SA just dragged a man with a van and he dies in their custody, Yep, I would say the SA cops seem to suck and therefore he is 100% correct. Maybe the real racists do not like being called out for their racism and prefer to hide behind bogus cliched nonsense like calling this guy racist.
Remember, as anywhere else, the Racist is the first to inject race into anything as they are so blinded by their own hate that nothing but racism could possibly be a reason for anything to a racist. Facts do not matter, history does not matter, a racist views everything thru their lens of hate and that can really screw up ones view of things....
@ DickCranium post 1.5,
Being locked in a compound with a psycho makes you safe? By the way what color was she and why say the police don't protect whites? From the looks of it that might be true, they did nothing to protect his girlfriend!
How does all of this mean its ok to shoot someone through the bathroom door??
@DickCranium: So you think they should go back to the Apartheid? Maybe you think the US should go back to slavery too? Blacks wouldn't kill other blacks if they are shackeled up.
Progressives call everything against their agenda as "Racist".
Just look at the Progressive chippies comments on any blog site.
"He added: "You can't rely on the police, not because they are inefficient always but because crime is so rife.""
Call him what you want. I carry an Airweight in case I come across a target match along the way.
Crime and poverty go hand in hand, particularly when there is also a great economic inequity.
Poverty is also closely tied to things like drug and alcohol abuse, low education and one parent families. Kids get educated on the streets and in jail. Depression and despair are rampant and many just eventually give up. When people have little to live for it just becomes about survival and doing whatever it takes.
The wealthy are not exempt from these problems, but it is more prevalent in poor communities. I wouldn't be surprised that crime by the poor committed against other poor is also quite high in SA. It probably just doesn't get the same level of attention.
When people fail in society for whatever reason, they will still do their best to survive. If the laws don't serve them well in their daily lives, they will have little respect for them.
As far as racism, it is going to occur in just about any multicultural society particularly when there is segregation. That doesn't have to be forced segregation either, it can be inadvertently driven. When conflict exists we look for someone to blame and it is usually going to be because of "those people over there", no matter where you stand. When we start arbitrarily assigning negative characteristics to specific cultural groups, it pretty much is racism. It doesn't necessarily need to be about skin color.
Economic disparity has a way of creating segregation. Maybe not deliberately, but that is often the end result. The reason we have slums and exclusive estates if mostly about economics and not the people who reside in them.
As the economic disparity gap in this country continues to grow, the future doesn't look so good. It isn't an easy problem to solve because it takes money to do it. You can take money and distribute it with the idea of helping to build prosperity within the low end of the spectrum. But if the desire is dead, it will be difficult. It also creates resentment and hard feelings. There is no easy answer.
I think that to some degree it is like a long dragged out game of Monopoly. And maybe at some point somebody gets sick of it all and flips the table over. Everybody wants to win, but winning doesn't have to be getting to the top. For most people just having today being better than yesterday, makes a big difference. Unfortunately for many, if not most, the trend is going the other way. That is a bad situation and when the few who are winning don't realize that everybody else is losing, it will only get worse.
"Media Liaison Team"? Does every accused murderer get one of those?
Apparently this family does. Doesn't yours? WTH?
Media Liaison Teams are provided for those with $$$$$$ ! I would not care to have that statement used if I were accused of murder though. It definitely shows a manufactured defense!
If you have money, or if there is money to be made in some way off the case, then you have one.
The police cannot prevent anything, they just come after to file a report. It is up to you to save yourself.
Hope you don't kill a family member, friend or loved one saving yourself from the effects of this "police ineptitude" you allude to.
hlmhd,
What you say is true. Remember, police don't carry guns to protect you. They carry them to protect themselves.
Spoken like a true, anti-2nd Amendment liberal, Andrew.
Amazing how this country was ever settled properly what with all of those immigrants who carried firearms for protection shooting themselves all the time. If we were to believe you liberals, no one in the country is qualified to properly handle a firearm and the only people to ever get hurt during a home invasion is the firearm owner or a family member.
You all are so full of sh!t...
So you're saying, Carry, that all of our immigrants should be given guns at the boarder as they come in?
Great idea. If everybody has guns then we'll all be safe. I like the cut of your jib, mister!
Thank you for your concern. In return, in the event that you or your family are the victims of violent criminals, I hope there is someone nearby that is (1) armed, and (2) possessed of a sense of civic responsibility.
BigJeff,
No need to issue guns to illegal immigrants. They already have plenty. Ask any rancher who lives within 50 miles of the border.
Bill,
I was talking about Canadians.
Didn't Obama's underlings supply guns to Mexican criminals along the border?
No, that program was started by Bush and ended by Obama.
Sorry Gary, the eTrace program was started in 2005. The Obama administration bungled it pretty badly, but it had been going on for three years before he was elected.
Not true. But, many of us have reservations about issuing concealed carry permits to zealots so fanatical about their "right" to carry concealed deadly weapons that they call themselves Carryingconcealed.....
We can deal with petty criminals. It's you folks that cause us concern. We know why you want your guns.
Cameron Ford,
That's right. He ended it after border patrol agent Brian Terry was killed by a gun that Obama had walked over the border without the knowledge of the Mexican government.
Obama - 1 Bush - 0
Operation Wide Receiver was intiated under W. The idea was to allow certain guns to "walk" so that they could trace where the guns were going--hopefully to catch some of the higher ups. They ultimately realize that arming Mexiacan drug cartel members--even with the best of intentions-- is a completely bad idea and they scrapped the program.
Fast forward to Obama/Holder and Operation Fast & Furious. A number of gun dealers in the border states were directed by the ATF to allow thousands of AR style guns to "walk" through straw purchasers to the Mexican drug cartels. The MSM soon begins an anti gun campaign where they throw around twisted stats like, "Over 80% of all guns used by the Mexican drug cartels come from the USA" This continues until border agent Brian Terry gets murdered by a drug cartel thug with one of the weapons that Obama/Holder authorized under F&F. Mysteriously, the MSM abruptly stops airing stories about Mexican thugs gettting their gun from the US. There is an attempt to uncover the truth and Holder goes before a Senate Judiciary Committee. Holder only submits 7600 out f 80000 relevant docs. He is called out, hems and haws and is ultimately held in contempt. Obama grants an executive order blocking the Senate Committee from getting the remaining relevant docs. The MSM fully supports Obama's suspicious move and demonizes the Senate Committee as being on a witch hunt.
You libs have now been educated on the matter. Your willful ignorance is not an excuse.
Very true in this Country. Much more so in a place like South Africa. The people who don't have to fear for their lives are living in a fantasy world.
Godbless===== Notice above how the liberal apologists for Obama fail to respond to my statement that Obama's underlings supplied guns to Mexican criminals. They change the subject to who started a program. Liberals are incapable of accepting any reality that indicts them for wrongdoing. Just shows how they can't be trusted to call a spade a spade; they will always dissemble.
Ian Emdee are you an M.D.?
Gary, what is your point. I am a liberal. Obama sent guns to Mexico, Bush sent guns to Mexico, Reagan sent guns to the Contras, Nixon bombed Cambodia and Lyndon Jophnson was a menace to society and the worse president we ever had. Just so you don't miss it, here it is again. OBAMA SENT GUNS TO MEXICO. I happen to find it to be one of the stupidest ideas I have ever heard. But then again, like sequestration, these things started a long time ago. I don't know who is more foolish, those who began the policy or those who decided a stupid policy was worth continuing. The base on both sides continue to demonstrate that their guy can do whatever and it's ok and the other guy is just a nutjob.
I promise as a concealed carry holder, I will respect your hatred of guns by not coming to your defense in the event you're being beaten, robbed or shot/stabbed.
We'll manage without your "defense".....batman. Irrational fear does not plague everyone.
Ian
I know facts will only confuse you but why don't you go to Russia, they have strict gun controls laws and low gun ownership ..... here is the opportunity, you can deal with the petty criminals and maybe reduce the murder rate from 20/100,000 to what we have in the US 4.9/100,000....or maybe go live in Chicago, you can make a difference.
Oh_no......said:
Law enforcement is a profession. Not everyone chooses it.
It is those of you who speak of "protecting" the rest of us who should reconsider it (law enforcement) as a profession. Until then, you are petty vigilante menaces to our society (i.e. George Zimmerman).
Like in Medical Doctor? M.D.? EmDee?
They have some of the highest murder rates in the world. The police obviously DON'T protect citizens well. I don't see his comments as racist as much as realistic. Why is it today you can't speak the truth without being branded a racist or hate-peddler (unless of course you are a minority, in which case you are free to say anything you want.)
You got that exactly right. Thanks.
Ok, so its ok for me to say that we should arm all of our children because of the white mass shootings in schools?
Bruce you are right, Because a White man complained about protection for Whites, hes a rasist, if a black complains about protection for blacks sell thats a civil rights movement
Bruce-308647.....said:
He said previously:
.....and:
Well Bruce, your notion of the "truth" seems to offer a clue as to why you are often "branded a racist".
But, that's not the least of your talents. It seems you are also something of a prognosticator:
...albeit, a very poor one. It's a wonder you still post here.
@NatTurner
I wish we could still say that there are no black mass murderers, but we can't. The sickness has spread to the African American community, as well. (See, e.g., DC Snipers)
But truthfully, school shootings are so rare that the sound and fury elicited by Sandy Hook is completely out of proportion to what happened.
Don't get me wrong - for the families, the death of those children and teachers was tragic. But it is not enough reason to upend the country's laws (or to keep going back, again and again, to intrude on their grieving)
Jeez, Ian!
Nice evisceration!
I hope you don't look into my past posts too closely, I may have misspelled some words :-)
My favorite quote from Bruce is the one about Sarah Palin only getting stronger. HA! Who is she again?
I suppose it's racist to bring up the demographics of the victims and perpetrators of gun violence in, say, Chicago.
Statistically, the man may be correct, and probably is.
I see no reason why this story is newsworthy.
The SA police, just a few days ago, dragged a suspect behind a van who then later died from his injuries. So yeah, SA police can be corrupt (just like anywhere else).
....and it was BLACK suspect, not one of the nasty Pistorius clan.
Anyone who has ever been to SA or reads anything BUT MSNBC knows that whites are under assault in SA- it is just not covered in this country. Boar genocide has been under way for a while, as the saying of the African National Congress goes "one settler, one bullet" your damn right if you are White you better have gun. Since 1994 3,364 White famers have been murdered in SA-
I don't doubt that, but if there are 15,000 murders per year in SA, and 3364 whites killed since 1994, there must have been (15,000 x 19) - 3364 or 281,636 blacks killed. Sounds to me like it's dangerous no matter what color you are.
Not only "one bullet, one farmer" in South Africa, it's also the slogan of Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe. Mugabe and Zuma, South Africa's President, were "Freedom Fighters" in the struggle against apartheid. Together, they bombed white governmental sites and assisted in the killing of many white farmers in both South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Once apartheid ended, every white governmental worker was replaced by a black worker. Many of these replacements were installed because they were the brother or cousin or some other kin of the black managers who were put in charge by the new government. Nepotism is rampant.
Because of this, many of the people working in state positions, electricity, water, waste treatment, and even the police are incompetent buffoons. Power outages are common, city water supplies are undrinkable, and the police, if they ever do respond to an emergency, are uncaring and unchallengeable.
Henke Pistorius was not wrong.
Bruce...I agree, but realism no longer has a place in the world...it's all virtual now. Virtual rights, virtual freedom, virtual uber alles.
Celtic1,
"Boar genocide"
I think you mean "boer", the Afrikaans word for "farmer". The boers are the descendants of the original Dutch settlers of South Africa. Otherwise, I agree with you.
I'm always amazed when focus is placed on today's perceived injustice..where was this righteous indignation and moral outrage when South Africans were subjected to pass codes, denied education, jobs, healthcare..when students were murdered in the streets for engaging in self determination..I've been to Joberg and Capetown..I've seen the evidence of how Black South Africans were treated and forced to live so where was your outrage then?..seems the chickens are emulating the lessons of the master.
Jufi123,
First and foremost Past wrongs do not, can not, and never will make current wrongs right. If it was ever wrong it is still wrong. Your mindset is similar to the porblem in American politics these days. Just because one group did it does not make it right for another to do but to the mindless masses That guy did it so somehow it is o.k. if this guy does. Umm no.... If it WAS wrong then is still IS wrong.
Although I can understand your concept of "where were you when it was going on in reverse, YEARS ago?? My answer is easy, I was too young to give a dam about the whole wider world, I am here now, and I am interested and therefore this is wrong to me, to go back and debate the history I would have to say it was wrong then but, since two wrongs do not make a right it being wrong then does not somehow make it right now that the situation is reversed.
As to your "seems the chickens are emulating the lessons of the master." If we want the 'leaders' now to be as bad as the 'leaders' then to the 'new other' then we must really stop pretending we give the slightest bit of a damn about 'human rights' and just get on down to the race war, have at it and be done with it. An 'oppressed' people can not 'over come' it by simply oppressing someone else, ask Israel.....
jufi123
What is a pass code? That would be Joburg, not Joberg.
They still live in those places, and are still treated in much the same way by the ANC, however the country as a whole has greatly deteriorated, it has changed from a first world country to a third world country. Apartheid had to go, but it should not have been replaced by the incompetent mess it has become.
I have been in Soweto in the mid seventies, I have seen police raids, I have seen people beaten by the police with billy clubs and shumbucks, not much has changed other than the people doling out the beatings. The violence is much worse and is broken down along tribal lines, remember the mine strike a few months ago in Rustenburg. The miners(Zulu, Nkata) and police(Sotho, ANC) broke down along tribal lines, these two tribes have been at war for as long as we have recorded history, even under apartheid they were divided. Now they are tearing the country apart, they have killed many farmers, be they Afrikaaners or not, they cannot manage the farms and keep them productive. They have sold off the mineral rights to China, that's gold, diamonds, uranium, coal amongst others. Thankfully they have disassembled the nuclear weapons and power plants, or a disaster would likely already have happened.
I remember reading an article a couple of months ago, after a long weekend, Durban beach had so much human feces on it that heavy equipment had to be brought in and the entire surface level of sand had to be removed, If I recall correctly there were 17 children left abandoned on the beach, none were claimed.
@The Angry Guy
Its not 3364 whites killed, the number is much higher than that, it is 3364 white farmers killed, the people that ran the farms that fed the country with huge abundance.
Would you put your life in the hands of the police that are representative of the people that have created this mess?
Chris and Antistupidity---absolutely excellent posts, both of them. Anti, your info regarding the murder of the farmers is something I read about years ago, and the resultant screwup in crop production because the lands were parceled out either as favors to tribal henchmen or to those who understood nothing about farming. When I read a piece about the embarrassment of South Africans because they did not protest rapes as vigorously as did the Indians in India, I found a website for online news -- the Mail & Guardian, which is mg.co.za. Their editorials and articles are very revealing. What amazes me is why Zuma or his corrupt police chiefs have not shut down the criticism of the govt. Perhaps it is because they are so powerful that criticism has no impact or importance. It is hard to imagine that one country, other than middle Eastern ones, purportedly a democracy, would be considered the rape capitol of the world. One article said the reason why such violations continuously occur is because people have grown to ACCEPT IT as a normal course of being a resident. The other is because the paperwork required to report a rape is so convoluted, detailed and demeaning to the victim, it is rarely filled out completely and properly. And if it is, it is usually "lost" or "misplaced" by the police. The law protects the perpetrator, too, and not the victim, because she then also has to have an eyewitness to the violation. The editorials and articles are interesting reads.
How dare he speak the truth! Doesn't he know he's supposed to ignore the obvious because it may be politically incorrect?
Truth is racism? Really?
The truth has always been racism to liberals, God bless.
For instance, if you say that there are no all-black neighborhoods in this country where a white person can feel safe walking after dark (or even during the daylight), even though that is absolutely the truth, you'll be called a racist for daring to say it out loud.
Liberals, of course, aren't bothered by any of the realities of the world they live in because they just stick their heads in the sand, and have a private conversation with their pet unicorn to console themselves that everything will be alright.
This is what you get in a country afflicted by a liberal scourge...
But this isn't the truth.
Jackhammer,
It IS the truth. I could take you to some neighborhoods about 20 miles from my house, drop you off, and ask you to walk 10 blocks. If you completed the stroll without being attacked, you would have at least 10 new buttonholes in the seat of your pants.
Yes, I would love to see some of these arm chair warriors who live in lily-white neighborhoods walk the streets of Detroit or the southside of Chicago after dark--unarmed. They like to talk the talk; let's see them walk the walk!
Since when are the only all black neighborhoods to be found in Detroit or Chicago? Since when are bad neighborhoods only black ones?
Or, you could try being white and strolling around in an Indian reservation late at night too.
That's known to be pretty dangerous.
...or try being an Indian walking around in some white neighborhoods. Try being a woman walking anywhere. As Pete points out, it can be dangerous anywhere, anywhere there are people who do not respect each other, or where the people have fallen into despair or where their power and control issues are out of control and out of whack. One of the common things people say as they go to rape, pillage or plunder is "I'll show them." This resentful control issue response is first uttered by us as children and just keeps on from there. Just because you can understand how something has come about is not the same as condoning it. Compassion is not the same as agreeing or giving a free-pass.
Carryingconcealed, aren't there any all-white neighborhoods, where a black person shouldn't feel safe walking after dark (or even during the daylight)? Or is violence committed only by black people?
"Carryingconcealed, aren't there any all-white neighborhoods, where a black person shouldn't feel safe walking after dark (or even during the daylight)? Or is violence committed only by black people?"
First question, never heard of one. Second question, no, but disproportionally true.
Since when is a fact racism?
South Africa 2012: HIGHEST per capita murder rate in the world. Highest mortality rate in the world.
Am I now a racist?
His gf was gonna dump this sorry POS's ass and he killed her. Has nothing to do with racism.
I don't think he has a "leg" to stand on.
In the United States, if you speak critically of the government you are exercising your free speech rights. In South Africa, if you speak critically of the government you are a racist. That does not compute!
Really, because from what I have seen is that if you speak critically of Obama who is the head of our government, you are a racist. I mean Obama is so perfect that the only way reason that you would speak critically about anything that he does is if you are a racist. Yet, if you speak critically of a Republican member of our government you are only exercising your free speech rights because Republicans are nothing but f*** ups.
I do not disagree with you Donna. That even happens on a state or more local level as well. I was speaking conceptually about our right to question the government because the government is our employee, and that right is part of the First Amendment. You are right, though. There are some government employees who respond to citizens as if we work for them.
I think what many people seem to forget is Obama is half white, so it would appear to me is that whether you're black or white, you can't be racist against him.
chuckzul,
C'mon! Do not be ridiculous. BO is black, acts black, uses his blackness without any restraints, etc....
Celtic 1; Anyone who reads anything other than MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, etc. knows that whites are under assault in THIS country. Black crowds, sometimes numbering over 100, have attacked whites in Peoria, Chicago, Philly, Jersey and Madison, WI but the mainstream media refuses to run the stories of the incidents, which began during Obama's first year in office. CNN and MSNBC did run a frontpage story about a black teen finding a noose but they completey ignored the story of the white teen who was out jogging and who was chased down and beaten into a coma by a gang of blacks. Both incidents occurred in the same week but only the 'noose' story warranted frontpage by the liberal media who continues to try and make whites believe they are evil and oppressive. Their agenda is to keep people in the dark as to what is rreally happening so that it will make taking our guns easier for the govt. with whom the media is not-so-secretly conspiring.
Sounds like you are the one who continues to try and make whites believe blacks "are evil and oppressive". You certainly don't need Obama, mainstream media or liberals' help to prove that you are an ass.
mresvit,
Do you find somewhere to trade your tinfoil hat in on a white cone?
At least post links to some of these reports of 100+ rampant crowds attacking white folks.
I guess the TRUTH really hurts.
Yes Brother I know all too well. Since we were speaking about SA I only included that. Of course whites are murdered at a far, far higher rate by blacks in this country than the opposite. The number of rapes is worse - 100 white women raped by a black man vs 0-1 black women raped by a white man. There has been for a Long while an "undeclared" war on whites in this country, only to get worse.
Cedltic...are you saying that only black men rape? Are you saying that only 100 rapes have occured in this country and all of them by black men raping white women? I am a woman and I do not feel safe going anywhere alone populated primarily by men afte dark no matter what the color or location. Women are not safe at the Air Force Academy, women are not safe at a bar even an all white one. I lived in those times in those places where there were whites this and blacks that. I assure you that the all white places were not safer for women. It was a white man that exposed himself to my sister, it was a white man that grasbbed me on the streets of LA, and it was a bunch of white men with torches that came to our door and threatened us when I was little.
No, all men rape, I was speaking of inter-racial rape, The numbers are not actual they are ratios. White women are raped at rate of 100 to 1 by black men vs black women being raped by White men. Understand?
Where in the f--- do you get your statistics?
Department of Justice - documents file - Criminal Victimization in the USA. You can then link to the document "Victims and Offenders" Its all there
He may have purchased the weapon for protection against bad guys (black or white) but he used it in a fit of steroid rage to kill his lilly white girl friend. This guy is a self absorbed prick that deserves life in prison or death; nothing less.
rickygeepers
Wow it sounds like you were there. When are you set to testify?
deerhunter: who are you to ask that? pistorious is obviously a roid rager and they should test him for it, after they try him for murder.
So, Bladerunner brought a gun into his home for protection, and he accidentally killed his girl friend. Let this be a lesson for those of you who want to bring a gun into your home for protection, you may end up shooting someone you love by accident.
Most people do not own a gun of any type. Maybe there is some logic to that?
Black and people of colour are more likely to be victim of crime in South Africa than White South Africans. So Pistorius Sr. comments are a load of caca. A guy who raised two boys who are all being charged with murder has no credibility saying anything worth paying attention to.
Crime and murder rates are the highest in South Africa, our own US of A and Yemen. The three countries with the most liberal gun laws and the highest gun ownership in the World. The other Country is Swizerland which also has a high onweship of guns. But the crime rate in switzerland is relatively law because though gun ownership is high, gun regulations are strict. Background checks are stringent. In addition the citizens of Switzerland are really part of "a well regulated militia" as originally intended in our constitution.
Though a number of recent mass shootings in Switzerland by mentally ill people who used guns owned by a family member highlight the result of holes even in the best background checks. Not to compare with the free for all, Ted Nugent advocated gun craziness in America.
One thing for sure, Reeva would be alive today, if Oscar P. did not have a gun at the ready. He could not have made up the excuse of 'I thought it was a burglar" if he had cloberred her with the cricket bat. So he would have hesitated.
Oscar lived in the most secure residential compound in SA, he did not need guns to protect himself. He is a gun enthusiast who, until he killed Reeva, was a model " responsible and so called law abiding gun owner" in South Africa. He even applied for a collector status so he could amass an arsenal of weaponry at home like his father and grandfather.
The problem is too many guns in circulation in South Africa and people's disregard for human life. That is the deadly combination.
Where did you get this? "In addition the citizens of Switzerland are really part of "a well regulated militia" as originally intended in our constitution".
Headhunter22
Where did you get this? "In addition the citizens of Switzerland are really part of "a well regulated militia" as originally intended in our constitution".
As a student i lived in Switzerland for one year so i am quite familiar with the Country.
As one of the smallest Country in area in Europe the Swiss believed for more that hundredfifty years now that their more powerful neighbors such as France, Germany and Italy could invade them at any time. As the result for national defense the Swiss Army is a people's militia. Men 20-30 years of age are subject to a mandatory militia service and each year they go through military and weapon training. They keep their weapons at home and they are part of this 'well regulated militia' ... similar to what we would have stood to fight King George's men.
I hope this answers your question
Dawlish1===== Rubbish. We don't know she would be alive if he had no gun. He might have beaten her to death and said an intruder did it and he could not come to her rescue because he did not have his legs on.
The problem isn't to many guns in circulation in SA. The problem is the murdering savage with whom she chose to live. He should be executed.
GARY.
I am not excusing Oscar P. killing of this young woman, though i do not believe in the death penalty. He should be locked up for the rest of his life or at least 25 years. All i am saying is that we all went angry at our partner or a family member or friend at some point.. Having a firearm in the house or at easy reach will transform what is a routine fight into a murder and then the brain is working feverishly to make up excuses.
Examples abound... Jodi Arias... George Zimmerman.. Oscar Pistorius.. though Jodi Arias seemed to have killed the guy way before she shot him.
Dawlish1==== Seriously , he murders an innocent and you think he should at least serve a paltry 25 years? Absurd! This demonstrates how insignificant you feel are the lives of the victims. People be aware , this is the liberal idea of just punishment. Today , if a sentence of 25 years is meted out the malefactor will probably serve no more than 1/3 to 1/2 of the sentence because of progressive policies that encourage parole and probation. Always oppose preposterously lenient sentences, like 25 years in this case.
If the problem of access to firearms were as significant as you say , then with millions of them in homes across the country we would see family members murdered multiple times per day , every day. Not , a few statistically insignificant examples.
Gary
What loads of ... are you spewing? Do you have any idea how many people die of gunshots in the USA every year? More than 30, 000 for the reported cases. The suicides and the many unreported make the number staggering? The official number we all know off is that 11,000 americans dies in gun murders.. Is that a few statistically insignificant number? Do you have any idea what statistically insignificant mean? Insignificant versus what.. In Japan last year there were 11 gun homicides in a Country of 120 million inhabitants compared to the US officially 11, 000 in a country of 312 Million? Oh well. Insignificant it is.
Dawlish1===== Nice attempt to change the subject of your comment #14.4 , to which I was responding. In your comment , you were discussing domestic disputes ( in an obvious attempt to alibi for the murderer ) and lamenting how we all have arguments with family members or friends and having a gun nearby will result in murder.
Then , in your comment #14.6 you start discussing 30,000 cases which has nothing to do with the number of domestic situation murders. You start throwing in gang murders and every other type. I stand by my statement and it's context. With millions of guns in homes today , if domestic murder between family members and friends using legally owned guns was a significant problem we would have them occurring multiple times per day , every day of the week. But , they are not.
To bad you oppose our Constitutional rights and only want the murderer in SA to receive a 25 year sentence. 3/4 of my comment was about your support of an outrageously lenient sentence for the killer but not a peep from you defending your position.
Gary, 25 years in prison is a long time. After that, a murderer will probably not be a danger to the society.
People mellow as they get older. You seem to be focusing on punishment. I am also concerned with public safety.
Gary, I believe that the stats are clear, a gun at home is more likely to be used against someone that you know, than against a criminal trespasser. And, in general, guns are used to murder way more than they are used to kill in self defense (justifiable homicide).
Guns are a problem. People are dying and being injured every day. You do not think it is a significant problem. I disagree, for the following reasons:
You are not shocked when you hear about gun violence, so you do not think that we need to do anything about it.
davey ======= Really , people mellow after years behind bars and aren't dangerous?
I guess you didn't hear about the man up in Webster, NY who murdered his grandmother with a hammer and then was released from prison after serving about 18 years for that atrocity. Know what he did then , davey? He set fire to his house to lure out firefighters and murdered 2 of them.
By the way , this degenerate was 62 when he committed these last 2 murders. Wasn't to mellow was he?
Pistorius is 26. If he only served 25 years he would barely be 50 when released.
The disturbing thing about all this is that you feel the 18 years served by the man in Webster was a long time. If he had been kept in prison for life the 2 murdered firefighters would be alive today.
And , by the way , I do believe Pistorius should be punished and punished severely for taking the life of an innocent.
Your point of view about guns makes you an opponent of our Constitution. I support it.
Gary
You have a point i did not address your comments about the 25 year sentence. Sorry to disagree with you but i am of the opinion that 25 years in the slammer for someone who is 26 years old and in the prime of his professional career and the pick of his earning potential, 25 years under that case is a fair punishment enough for this heinous crime. The reason people are sent to jail is to punish them but also with the view to long term rehabilitation. ( i bet based on your post that you will call that a bleeding heart liberal idea).
I do not know how old you are but 25 years is a long time by any measure. That is not lenient.
Dawlish1====== The adoption of your point of viewing on punishment is what led to the man in Webster , NY only serving 18 years for murdering his grandmother with a hammer and then being released and murdering 2 more innocent human beings.
Oh don't be such a drama queen. There are already lots of laws against guns. All I want is for hand guns to be classified the same as machine guns. I want hand guns to be as easy to get as machine guns.
BTW, I do understand that not all criminals will be safe to release after 25 years. I certainly do not want Charles Manson released.
davey ======= How about keeping people like Pistorius in prison as long as Manson has served? He's been in prison over 40 years.
If you're afraid of a man almost 80 years old being released you ought to be afraid of a man who would be about 50 being released after only serving 25 years, a man who coldbloodedly murdered his girlfriend by shooting her 4 times and beating her body to a bloody pulp.
Your analysis is flawed. Society would have much less to fear from the release of an 80 year old man who never personally murdered anyone compared to the danger presented by the release of a 50 year old who personally murdered and bludgeoned a fellow human being. That being said, neither should ever be released from confinement; both should serve life , if they aren't executed.
Well, every case is different. Manson is nuts. Manson will never be a productive member of society. Pistorius is going to sit in jail for a long time thinking about his big mistake. I don't think Pistorius is nuts.
Dawlish--you said Pistorius was a "model" gun owner? That isn't exactly what the Mail & Guardian (in SA) reported! He one day went into a popular restaurant with his girlfriend, which he frequented often, bringing a weapon, and decided to fire it off a few times for effect. Almost hit one of the patrons. The restaurant covered it up at the time because he was a frequent patron. He was not, by any stretch, an "enthusiast." He was OBSESSED and somewhat quite an unstable whacko.
Gary, might you have been referring to George Fitzsimmons (Webster, NY?) Perhaps not--it does sound familiar though. Georgie karate chopped his parents to death, then got a "mental defect" type of sentence. While in a psychiatric facility, he struck up a "love" relationship with a female patient. Later, he took a hammer to her, but she survived. When he was released, because the shrink said he was no longer a danger to anyone, he went out of State and killed his very elderly aunt and uncle. Luckily, he got a life sentence there.
So, in this country, when a 'black 'or African-American crys 'racism' it is because he/she is oppressed by a 'white' majority. AND, it is societally acceptable to look down on those who would oppress them.
But, in South Africa, when a white crys 'racism' against the majority 'black' (IF, the 'black' are a majority) and oppressed they are held in contempt???
This, appears to me, as a government where double-standards apply. The official should have come back with more than they think that the comments were racist. They are in power, now, and should use it judiciously and have given a more appropriate response.
It's called "payback" for the years of apartheid they were forced to endure.
Now that they are in controll they intend the "Whites" to suffer as they did.
Yep, because as we all know two wrongs make a right. By the way, what's the color of the sky in your reality?
Since when has racism become a crime? Racism is a opinion.
The most racist people are people who say 'black', 'white'. 'hispanic', etc... because they do not recognize that we are all human and that is the only race that matters.
It is time we stopped looking at the color of a person's skin and looked at what the person is doing/done.
Dan, only in a perfect world. Tell me, please. How would you describe an assailant (yours) to the police if he (or she) was of a race other than yours? Can you describe your assailant without mentioning the color of his or her skin? It is a fact of life that we absorb and describe what we see (if we are not blind) by height, weight, eye COLOR, physical markings on the face, anomalies in physical appearance, disabilities, if any, hair COLOR and the COLOR of one's complexion, or maybe even odor. If we did not do this, few would ever be arrested for their crimes, and few would ever be eliminated as suspects. It is not being racist! It is natural to use our senses if we have them.
After Mandella took power in South Africa, the rape has trippled and lawless thuds run the streets. I have known a lot of people that have moved from Africa to the US, both black and white. The reason is the high rate of crime, and the fear of being raped. You do not dare go outside your house at night. The Media does not tell the truth, and the liberal media will never. The reason, they will be accused of being racist. Whatever, your background, there is no reason to kill or rape.
You can bet your ass that obama wants nothing more than for this country to be just like south africa!!!! Why do you think the movie 2016 disappeared so fast!!! The liberals in hollywierd couldn't handle the truth coming out about thier messiah!!!!! If your liberal ass hasn't seen the movie than keep your comments, err lies, to yourself!!!
I thought the movie 2016 disappeared because it sucked. Free market, and all that.
NBC keeps digging deeper and deeper to try and keep their anti-gun agenda front and center. Pathetic hardly seems strong enough a word.
“Henke’s interview with the newspaper was unapproved by our media liaison team, he said.”
In other words, Henke's comment was politically incorrect. I'm sure there was some truth in what he said. South Africa does in fact have a serious crime problem, and there probably is some police inefficiency in dealing with it. That's why so many people there live in walled compounds with barbed wire on the top of the walls and, yes, keep guns for self defense.
So, have the tables turned in SA? I guess what goes around........ Karma, I'm just sayin...
See comment #24
It's a shame that the truth is pushed back into the racism hole.
It's a shame that racism is used by so many ignorant politicians and reporters because they have no intelligent answer. It's just another "WHATEVER" they can use for thier lack of intelligence!!! Look at jesse jackson and al sharpton, they use it for race baiting while people like maxine waters and other politicians and media outlets use it because of ignorance and no answer other than lies!!!!! It's the new word of liberals all over the country, don't know what to say other than lie, USE RACISM for your answer!!! People are so afraid of that word they will back off whatever subject they are talking about. Especially since obama has made racism his new hate crime!!!! Another way of taking away freedom of speech, another way for obama to get around the constitution!!!!!It's bull@!$%#, BECAUSE THE TRUTH CAN'T BE TOLD without fear!!!!!!!!!!! It has become the new word of the liberal media. Perhaps our new word should be unsubsribe!!! But then it's another way for the media to take away our freedom of speech!!!!! Don't ever be afraid to speak the truth america!!! Obama wants to disarm us so our beloved country can be another armpit of the world, just like so africa!!! The crime will help the rest of his agenda to declare martial law, and help him in his attempts to keep himself in power, not as president, but as a dictator!!!!!!!! It has nothing to do with the children, if it did, 300,000 new babies a year wouldn't be aborted!!!!! Obama is a liar, plain simple truth, the only children he cares about are his own!!!! Otherwise he would be supporting security in all schools, not just his childrens school!!!!!!
I wonder if Henke Pistorius and Wayne LaPierre are related?
nooke
Karma??? So now that SA can no longer feed itself or protect it's citizens form crime, thats OK beacuse the tables have been turned on the former group that REALLY knew how to run the country?Really!?!?Apartide still exist...it is only reversed now...and you see the results.THATS Karma!

You're an idiot...
