Iran launches destroyer in Caspian Sea

Iran launched a domestically built destroyer in the Caspian Sea Sunday, Iranian media reported.

With President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad looking on, Iran launched a domestically built destroyer in the Caspian Sea Sunday, the Iranian media reported.

The event marked first time Iran has launched a major warship in the oil-rich region, according to The Associated Press.

The 1,420-ton warship, which is longer than a football field and can sail at 30 knots with a 20,000-horsepower engine, was put in the water near the northern port city of Bandar Anzali, about 150 miles northwest of Tehran, the Iranian media said.

The ship, named Jamaran 2, is equipped with advanced artillery and torpedo systems, can carry surface to air missiles and has a helicopter landing pad.

It was described by state media as a "symbol of the Islamic Republic's capability and strength that conveys the message of peace and friendship to the Caspian Sea states," according to Press TV, an English-language media outlet based in Tehran.

Press TV said the ship will formally join the Iranian navy in six months, after the completion of final tests.

Iran previously launched a version of the Jamaran destroyer in the Persian Gulf in 2010, AP reported.

In the last two decades, Iran has been building a self-sufficient military, reportedly producing its own jet fighters, tanks, missiles and light submarines as well as torpedoes.

Both Israel and the United States have not ruled out military strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities. The West suspects Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, a charge Iran denies.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to press President Obama about a potential strike on Iran during a meeting between the leaders scheduled for Wednesday in Israel.

Hello folks, our country is broke and weary of war. If Israel wants to start a war, let them finish it alone. The U.S. and Israel are trying to concoct false flags to start another war but it won’t happen. The elite are ratcheting up the rhetoric and the warmonger sheeple are getting sucked in to the propaganda. Let’s take an objective look at the Iran situation. Ask yourself, what would happen if Iran attacked an oil refinery in the US? Of course we would go into Iran and bomb their country. Well, we bombed an Iranian oil refinery and they didn’t retaliate. We issued sanctions on their oil and export industries and they didn’t retaliate. Israel is killing their scientists and they didn’t retaliate. Why is that?

While appearing vulnerable they took control of the most sophisticated drone on the planet downloaded and deciphered the encrypted information and have our Military intelligence (I know it’s an oxymoron) people worried that top secret information has been compromised.

Do you believe that the Iranian’s have the capability to bring down a state of the art drone and have it land where they want it to and down load and decipher complex encrypted code? It appears that Iran has been getting help and lots of it from a very sophisticated source or sources. The US already declared war on Iran by issuing sanctions and covertly bombing them but they don’t dare overtly go in because it would jeopardize China’s oil flow, piss off Russia, Turkey and the local Arab countries. This would also force Iraq to support Iran. We got kicked out of Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan is trying to get us to leave their country. The Middle East is kicking us out which means we are running out of staging areas and NATO support for an attack on Iran. The US tried to concoct fraudulent excuses to stir up public support to go into Iran. There was the laughable assassination ruse of the Mexican drug cartel and the more unbelievable law suit stating Iran was part of 9/11. There were also claims that Iran attacked Iraq, etc. The elite are running out of false flags. Iran is out foxing the US because they have the world divided and we can’t command an organized response. The UN Security Council voted against the US a few weeks ago. China and Russia have gone on record that if Iran is attacked they would support Iran. The world is getting fed up and bored with our Imperialism and the elite who orchestrate war.

We have been fighting urban wars of attrition for over 11 years now and we are broke, our allies are broke. We have spent close to 3 Trillion dollars in Afghanistan and Iraq. We can’t afford another expensive protracted war a half a world away and the US citizens are sick of war. There was 85% support for Ron Paul amongst our troops because they are sick of war and he promised to end the wars, too bad the RNC robbed him of his delegates. The lengthy wars have depleted our manpower, equipment, and our political capital.

Recently the Census Department of the Federal Government reported that “50% of the nation’s population were living below the poverty line”. Our nation’s wealth has been exhausted by war so that we could secure profits for the banking, oil, and Military/Industrial cartels. We never saw a dime of it and never will because the 1% elite feel they have a Divine Right at our expense. You know their motto, privatize profits and socialize losses. They truly can’t squeeze much more from the peasantry but they will try.

Our government has been trying to get Iran to do something stupid so that we can attack them but they won’t do it. Iran isn’t Iraq or Afghanistan. They haven’t done anything, aren’t weak and they aren’t bluffing. They are asserting their right as a sovereign nation and have the support of some very powerful countries. If we attack Iran, the war will be at our doorstep and then we will see how brave you who espouse war respond. When you live by the sword, you die by the sword.

Issuing sanctions is not an act of war... but I digress... also, what proof do you have we or Israel caused an explosion that killed power to a refining complex? Why would we bother, it is easily repaired.

If we wanted to attack Iran, we would have already...

Why won't they grant access to Parchin and Fordow? Seems like a very simple way to prove they have no WMD aspirations...

Should things go south we could have an experiment in Iraqi vs Iranian quality/construction.

Does Ahmadinejad's new toy sink as fast as Hussein's? I wonder if Iran's navy is smarter. "We won't let the Americans take us at night" said Saddam's Navy once.

Once.

It is only a destroyer, you morons.

The f--ing Zionists on these forums, crying for an American attack on Iran, are discusting excuses for humanity. Some of the fools actually want to nuke a country of 66 million people, in order to keep Israel as the top dog in the ME. Iran has done nothing to Israel or America, to warrant any kind of attack. They arm Hezbollah with mostly primitive weaponry and we arm Israel with the finest weapons in the world.

Israel sits with 150 or more nuclear weapons, while Iran has none. Israel has been armed to the teeth, courtesy of the American taxpayer, who has been footing the bill for that nation of parasitic war mongers for decades. It is time to stop the madness and cut them off from our welfare roles.

Israel's economy is
thriving in a global economic meltdown. The Jewish state's 2009-12 economic
growth of 14.7 percent leads all the advanced countries of the world, followed
by Australia with 10.7; Canada 4.8; United States 3.2; Germany 2.7; France 0.3;
European Union minus 1.5 percent.

Politics aside, I find it curious that they build and launch this ship in a lake that has but one old canal system that is very likely unable to handle a ship of this size. Caspian sea has 4 countries on its shores, none of which seem to pose a threat to Iran. Leads me to belive that this ship is nothing more than a show piece the the Iranian people while at the same time keeping it safe from danger.

Brand new and they've already scratched the paint job against the dock! Must not have had the curb feelers installed. Look at the side of that thing. The helmsman has probably already been beheaded for that. Good for Iran launching this thing. It's just more target practice for our F/A 18 Hornets when Iran gets too feisty!

Ray, well said. It's a well known fact that anybody that disagrees with Ralph's views regarding the Middle East, he considers a Israeli/Jew loving Zionist. There is no "discussion" with him on that. He has proved that time and again.

@TrustVerify,

Good name, now let's verify. In the 2012 election, Obama received $536k from military members, Romney received $287k and Paul got $399k. I would never call that overwhelming support. As far as voting went, both active duty and veteran military split at 40% each with 0% to Ron Paul. There have been 85% support among the troops for Ron/Rand Paul but they have certainly done an excellent job of camoflage.

The rest of your screed is just patently idiotic, showing that you have no knowledge of the region or world affairs. At no point in your ramblin, incoherent rant were you even close to any accurate facts or rational thoughts. Everyone who read your thread is now stupider for having read it. You get no style points. I will start to worry when they float an aircraft carrier in the same pond as this destroyer.. It looks like a state of the art ship with phased array radar and all.. But it is just a glorified patrol boat that will have very little use where it is other then interdicting smugglers.. Using it to be aggressive and attempt to control the entire sea will get it sunk with a smart mine or silkworm missile in short order.. I am sure they think it is valuable as an anti aircraft platform but as noted above it seems more like a missile magnet to me..

So many of these countries with hate complexes that are holding them back from the main stream of world society and economics.. Our military is so overbuilt and such a drag on the budget it is just sad.. For the cost of 1 super stealth fighter or super stealth bomber we could have hundreds of fine aircraft like the A-10 or Apache/Cobra.. Oh how the big defense contractors profit every time one of the idiots run their mouths.. Let Iran have a few nukes, if they ever use them the response will be assured destruction just like North Korea.. China told them that if one of their gadgets is exploded in a preemptive strike or terror attack they might nuke them.. It would not take long to figure out where one came from even if it was smuggled in and set off by "terrorists".. All they need to know is a bit of history about us and how we kicked it into gear after Pearl Harbor..

The Caspian Sea is not an open ocean where Iran could dispatch these warships to do anything to the US. Unless our aircraft carriers can drive on dry land to get to the Caspian, it is of no threat. When it comes down to it this if kind of a joke.

Or if the same thing happened on the French border what do you think they would do.. The Arabs are sore losers, they lost this land during WW2 for siding with the Germans/Italians.. This real estate has been fought over for thousands of years and there big piss is that these people are Jews.. Islamists are Johnny come lately that feel the whole world is theres and they will kill all who do not bow to their wishes.. The event marked first time Iran has launched a major warship in the oil-rich region, according to the Associated Press.

Nice boat Iran. It will make as nice target for us or the Israelis.

Iran has been the major sponsor of terrorism, supporting Sunni Hamas, Shi'ite Hezbollah and organizations like the Shi'ite Khazali network in Iraq. In fact, the Iranian supported groups in Iraq were as deadly to US soldiers and civilians as were the Sunni organizations. Maliki was beside himself when he realized how Iran had supported the organizations he saw as his constituents in Iraq.

So Iran has stated it would destroy Israel, continued to develop a nuke and now has a destroyer in its arsenal. Clues anyone?

The USA has been in more wars than any other country relative to its time of existence. I have heard many anti Americans say this. Well the reason is because we are the only country with the balls to stand up to the bad actors. And Iran is a bad actor. If Israel doesn't do Iran, we should.

Nice boat! I hope they enjoy it, have lots of fun playing with it, looks a little old school in design but then one never knows, if its purpose is to sink Tankers and close the straight then it can probably do just that, other wise its a useless ship with no purpose other then show, but then isn't that half the purpose of all Navies around the world, a show of force? they are within their rights, now what about the nukes? does Obama intend to stall and ride this one out? for the first time in his two terms he is finally going to go to Israel and approach the subject head on is that because he wants to see the holy land before its nuked, is he going to ride this threat out and see what happens, we will find out soon enough either way it won't be good. does China still stand behind Iran? is Russia still supporting Iran? this is what you call a no win situation, we are all being placed in the middle, and there is no way out. smells like Napalm in the morning. if there is a count down from 10 we must be somewhere between 2 and 3. are we due for a Apocalyptic event I guess we will be finding out soon enough. or will Obama simply give Israel the tools and tell them to go it alone and we will watch their back side.

    Roadrunnero,

I'll pit one squadron of stealth bombers and one squadron of 'stealthy' fighters against a comparable cost of traditional fighters and bombers any day. All other factors being equal, I will have air superiority within the month. If all you place into the air are A10s and Apache/Cobras, my army will be at your house within a week. These are not suited for this type of mission and sending them into the field before achieving air superiority is suicide. Desert storm demonstrated the intrinsic value of the F-117 (combined with LGBs). Kosovo saw how effective the B-2 was in 1999 (using JDAMs) Future unmanned stealth weapons platforms will make the F-117 and B-2 look like jokes.

All they need to know is a bit of history about us and how we kicked it into gear after Pearl Harbor.

Are you daft? Part of the reason the U.S. appears so 'imperialistic' is that we can't let anyone fire off a single nuke. Once a nuke is set on it's way, the potential for loss of life will be tremendous...first in the initial strike and then in the retaliation. Who knows where it will stop. We do not want another Pearl Harbor or 9/11. Why do 3000 American lives have to lost BEFORE we do something about it?

On the subject of the destroyer. Iran didn't build it to defend against a world power--like the U.S. They built it to increase their value as a regional power. Small steps. It would be preferable, in my eyes anyway, if they continued down THIS path, rather than the pursuit of nuclear capability.

Actually @Roadrunner, the Arabs essentially lost title to their own lands in World War I when the Ottoman Empire (the Islamic World then) sided with Germany because the Balkan League (Bulgaria, Greece, Montenegro, and Serbia with Britain pulling the strings) declared war on them. The intruigue had nothing to do with Islam or oil or such, but with trying to deny Russia access to the Black Sea (which led to the Crimean War.) The British paid them back by claiming all lands of the Ottoman Empire ands proceeded to subjugate every country they could from Egypt to Iran to Syria to Palestine and all stops in between. They were finally pushed out after decades of British oppression by independence movements and failed British-supported dictatorships. The British initially could not have cared less about the Middle East until WWI when oil started getting into everyone's vocabulary. Now, because of British mischief and back-stabbing, most of the M<iddle East hates the US. Go figure.

Brand new ship and they have already managed to run it into something. It looks like it may have scraped along a pier - look at the black streaks on the hull. That goes to show the level of seamanship of the Iranian navy, they manage to damage a ship the day it is launched. I wonder if the captain was beheaded for damaging the Ayatollah's new toy. The Caspian sea is an odd place to launch this thing. I do think there are any waterways large enough to get a ship that size out of the Caspian and into the world's oceans. They probably launched it there so that it would not sink in the rough weather in the ocean or end up as target practice for the US warships in the Persian Gulf next time Iran gets out of line. I doubt that thing would last more than two minutes against one of our Arleigh Burke class destroyers, Ticonderoga class cruisers or even one of the new Littoral Combat ships.

Oh here we go. Bunch of war mongers calling for attacking Iran just because they built a destroyer that is utterly insignificant on the military capability scale.

I wonder how many of you chickenhawks actually have(had) the balls to go serve in the military if your conviction for war is so strong. Asking for others to fight and die for your beliefs while you cheer from the sidelines is cowardice at its worst. Personally, I enjoyed my military (voluntary) experience though looking back now, it was rather foolish of me to risk my own life to *protect* certain Americans who should really be forced to do their own fighting since flexing muscle and showing off other peoples toughness is all they are capable of. Little more than specks on the shallow end of the gene pool.

Feel offended by what I said? Great, that was precisely my goal. Go lose some friends, children or some other relatives to war before espousing for more of the same. It sure is easy to talk about invading or attacking another country while sitting on your comfortable couch watch the live war feed, nursing that 50 inch waist with more beer and potato chips.

                This warmonger Israel

Statements like this one betray the true anti-Israel agenda of many people.

The people who call Israel 'warmonger' routinely ignore the successful, long peace that Israel has with both Jordan and Egypt.

I don't agree with labeling an entire country as a warmonger. But let's face it, the Israel-Egypt "peace" is a sham that is only kept afloat by the perpeptual shelling out of American tax dollars. Why should we be responsible for paying billions we have to borrow in order to maintain peace between two foreign countries?

at the end of the day, the US needs to strike Iran .... or sometime in the next 20 years, a nuke that Iran built and sold or lost control of will detonate in the continental US... it's just a matter of time

We can't destroy this naval vessel without being provoked. IF Iran were to do something stupid......... like let's say attacking Israel; Well that's a different story and this new ship will make a very juicy target that will not survive a conflict with the U.S. navy for more than 5 minutes.

A destroyer? Looking at the size of the chopper hovering over the stern, it seems more like a frigate or even a corvette.

Such a shame to have a modern class of warship with such ordinary lines! The design must have been drawn in Botswana.

Then check out the red finish on the boottop - a submariner's delight, a ready-made bullseye for a torpedo.

Too many voters embrace feel-good propaganda that they want to hear instead of learning the basic facts about issues they care about. They should do a better job of calling out dishonest politicians -- and shunning media outlets that stoke political food fights.

How many of you even bothered to figure out WHY IRAN PUT A F**KING DESTROYER IN THE CASPIAN SEA.

                      Here's a Map. Think.

For once Fundamentalist Islamic TrustVerify posted some Facts and what do you do, " Comment collapsed by the community". Of course TrustVerify mixed in some Fundamentalist Islamic Taqiya (Lies to Advance Islam); but, that is for you to figure out.

TrustVerify - We got kicked out of Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan is trying to get us to leave their country.

Fact: The US And US Allies DID get KICKED OUT of Iraq, Pakistan, and soon Afghanistan DUE to President Obama's Failed Foreign Policies.

US Ally Saudi Arabia, "President Obama gave Iraq to Iran as a Gift on a Golden Platter". The US Ally Saudi Arabia pissed because Islamic Shia Iraq as an Ally of the Fundamentalist Islamic Shia Republic of Iran became a "Potentially Hostile Nation" on their Northern Saudi Border.

US lost the US Military Logistics Support Bases at Pakistan required to support the United Nation's Mission at LANDLOCKED Afghanistan, the Unsupported United Nation's, US, NATO Military Forces MUST leave United Nation's Mission at LANDLOCKED Afghanistan by 2014.

HOW MANY OF YOU BOTHERED TO EVEN RESEARCH WHAT THIS IRANIAN DESTROYER IS ARMED WITH.

And then most of you uneducated low or no information voters, Vote for Fundamentalist Islamic RalphH anti US Ally Israel post, then wonder why most Nations no longer want to be US Allies.

And people wonder why the Fundamentalist Islamic Anti US chant, "Ooosa", "Ooosa".

By the way it is the Author of this Article that called this a Destroyer, the Iranians classified this as a Mowj Class Frigate.

For its weight it seems more like a corvette class, I've seen frigates that weight more and are better equipped, calling that a destroyer is a joke.

I have absolutely no idea how many subs might be in the Caspian Sea reno.

But as you unnecessarily point out, the ship pictured is not in the Caspian Sea. And I've not seen any info that says the new class of warship will be confined to service in the Caspian Sea.

Plenty of subs lurking in other waters though, ready to take a pot shot at the bullseye I mentioned.

                        Clear now?

Apparently statistics and facts aren't part of your knowledge base. Given that 64% of American adults are either overweight or obese, the probability of my statement being accurate is in actuality quite high, regardless of the sarcastic nature behind it.

By the way, 2 or 3 comments does not an 'obsession' make. If that were true, given your repeated use of terms such as 'widdle' or 'don't-cha', I would have to claim that you are 'obsessed' with acting juvenile or mentally deficient in public.

So was the British Empire, Roman Empire, the Mongols, and every other great empire of history. Building a world order that is undoubtedly favorable to our perspective by the rule of *might makes right* or *history is written by the victor* is hardly a convincing argument. Great world powers rise and fall with the passing of time, that is the only reality and America is not immune to it either.

The irony here is, just how often our 'force for peace' has used military methods to achieve that so-called peace? Then there are also all of those covert activities of the past that have actually contributed significantly to the current instabilities in many parts of the world. Hmm.. logical fallacy is calling.

I hope the same folks who are claiming that the US government cannot limit their use of wanting AR-15s assault rifles are the same ones wanting the US government to limit whatever kinds of weaponry Iran and other selected nations can possess. The pure narcissism of proclaiming that your individual rights is more important than the rights of a sovereign nation and even worse: the clear and blatant distortion of the Second Amendment of the US Constitution that certain rich libertarians has spent billions of dollars to indoctrinate this distortion.

gridlock..........the 2A does not have a single thing to do with this story, the weapons you dont want iran to have is nuclear, they can and do have all others, just like all other nations, and one more armed tugboat in the landlocked caspian sea is no real threat. the 2A says what it means and means what it says, it is simple and to the point so you cannot distort the meaning as you say, if you can not understand .....the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed then you are the one with the distorted view. it does not say only (these) arms. it says ( arms)........shall not be infringed, the 2A is what backs up the constitution ,without it that document is just words on a piece of paper. disarm the law abiding , taxpaying citizens, and the government will wipe their azz with the constitution , and then you will see what life in a socialist nation is really like......i like the republic and the constitution the way it is, for 200 plus years it has worked fine, it does not need to be changed. just the morons trying to change it, they are full of @#$%

Hey Ray - Iran is not a state sponsor of terrorism. You Zionists may regard them as such and you Zionists may have convinced our state dept to list them as such, but that does not make it true. Most of the world does not concur with you or our state dept.

Israel not only sponsors terrorist groups, such as the MEK, it is a terrorist state. That is not anti semitism, its fact.

If you want an illustration of terror, consider the massive air attacks conducted by Israel against Lebanon's cities, such as Beirut, where they killed over 1000 Lebanese citizens, mostly women and children. The Israelis dropped millions of cluster bombs and used white phosphorus. The Lebanese has no way to stop attacks by F16s and were totally helpless, until the Israeli launched their ground invasion.

question, what do you suppose would happen, if the lebonese stopped buying weapons, lobbing motar shells and such over the boarder at israel and actually spent the money on helping their people? seems to me that if they spent more time and money doing this and left the isrealies alone things would be a lot better for them. but no, they keep poking the hornets nest with a stick just to see what happens.

I have to give you an A+ for consistency. Your rhetoric never changes. I'll allow an A (which in your case equals zero) for hatefulness, bigotry, and anti-Semitism! I know, you are only stating the truth. Save it, as I have heard your truth too many times from you before. You cannot seem to get it through your head that not all share your version of the truth and those that do not you cheerfully label Jew loving Zionists! Get real and get some serious help with your hatred issues. They will eat you up if not doing so already! You need not bother me with a response as I am sure it will just be more of your same rhetoric and I'll most likely ignore it anyway. Reading your comments has become useful only for it's comedic value as they never change. I think you would rather choke on a mouthful of maggots rather than say something potentially positive about Israel or Jewish people in general. Have a nice day.

Iran is quite capable of building high tech stuff on their own and have minerals and manufacturing and even steel mills and electronics component fabrication abilities..They have world class colleges and research facilities but what worries me is that they are building under ground facilities.. They also have that anti everyone complex in there government mindset just like Germany did before WW2.. Many of the sanctions have forced them to be self sufficient..

Who built the power that drives it? Maybe the same govt/company that builds all of Iran's personal cars and trucks? Do they build any cars/trucks for the people? Just curious how their govt/state functions.

In most cases around the world, a major privately held corporation develops a great product and 'the world' see's it's value, orders the product for itself. Of course that is Hayek economics. We are now far more interested in borrow now, give everyone a share, pay tomorrow with inflated dollars, Keynesian mode. Just as we have been programmed. In Keynesian economics, War works every time... as a Control and Diversion.

Besides that, you need to read up more about geography, ship capabilities, and just who is a friend of the U.S., and how much money is being spent to support our allies.

Well, Richard, I guess the Israelis figure the best defense is a good offense because they sure support a few offensive policies, especially the land grabs and settlement building in the West Bank being done by so-called jewish settlers claiming a god-given right to the land. Of course, that ignores the long history and rights of others who've called the West Bank home long before these modern-day settlers set upon the area. I've seen a West Bank map with graphics showing the changing territorial landscape. The map is speckled with large and small chunks of land that these settlers have claimed or stolen, depending on your viewpoint. The aggregate area of these ill-gotten land grabs is huge and if I was a Palestinian I'd be extrememly pi$$ed. This in no way means I support dealing with one's greivances through terrorism, nor does it mean I favor any particular side. Just the same, if the Israelis truly desired peace one thing they could do is put the kobosh on the manifest destiny crap.

You need to read seaskip's comment again, I don't see where he said Israel did not have a right to defend themselves, why do we have to support them if they are so god damn good.

I'm white, male and happy that I am a U.S. Citizen, but I am absolutely sick and tired of our government policing the middle east. Back in the Iraq conflict, we supposedly were supposed to recover our costs for that war in oil ($3t. worth) but that was apparently 'forgiven' but our 'alien in chief,' Owe'Bama.

I believe Iran is a sovereign nation, entitled to its right of security, its right to protect its interests without the U.S. feeling obligated to respond with another war we simply can't and shouldn't afford.

I also believe that if Israel continues with its warmongering hyperbole, then Israel should not expect US to lift a finger to help them.

Leave Iran and middle east alone. Get our troops home, close down 100's of our bases around the globe and secure our own borders - and I'm not talking about checkpoints on highways 100 miles from the borders either. That's a bunch of b.s. right there - but a whole 'nuther topic entirely.

There's so many things our country should do right now - but for all reasons that escape REASON and SANITY - our present government is destroying our Nation. Doing nothing but pissing off the rest of the world and taking away our Liberties in the process.

I'm so sick of this president thinking we can spend our way out of debt and into prosperity. We need level heads to prevail in Washington. The way it is, it's no wonder we're the laughing stock to the rest of the world.

No, Ess, sorry but I don't agree.

First: Iran may be a sovereign nation, but it is primarily an Islamist Republic and therefore a terrorist State, whose aim is to destroy non-Muslim countries, starting with Israel. Denying that would be a denial of reality.

Second: Israel can't go alone on this if Iran does manage to develop nukes. And they are close to it.

Third: leaving the Mid-East alone is not an option because everything that happens there has a repercussion on virtually every country on the planet.

As a peace-keeping nation, the "land of the free, the home of the brave" it is OUR DUTY, we the USA, to prevent dictatorships of any kind, Iran, North Korea, just name it, from exerting blackmail on all free nations, from acting as a deterrent to their war-like ambitions, and from starting a bloody war that, in all cases, they will lose, like Hitler and Hiro-Hito did.

How about Palin, she doesn't even know which country borders her home state Alaska ... or McCain, he voted for launching another war on Syria...or Romney who has only supporting his and his rich buddies wealth in mind..or monkey-faced bow-hunting Paul Ryan... No thanks, I guess the Republicans have to come up with better candidates to get back my vote...

Personally, Apollo...I would LOVE to see Dr. Benjamin Carson step into the race.

If you would care to spend a few moments listening to him at Owe'Bama's prayer breakfast recently:

He holds no punches. He sees clearly a vision for what exactly our country needs.

Ess you are either an idiot, are 12 years old or have no memory. It was the previous war mongering administration that started the trillion dollar war and promised that oil would cover the cost. They also said that the Iraquis would welcome our troops as heros. Your use of the catchy terms like Owebama tells me you are one of the talk radio ditto heads. Change the channel, it will raise your IQ

toward Liberty. They are followed by Israeli air force fighters, loaded with

                                                        burning."

Within minutes U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert MacNamara orders rescue jets to

immediately." Rear Admiral Geis relays message and tells them to re-launch
                                                        jets in 90 minutes.

the largest flag the ship has.

1450: Commander of Sixth Fleet orders carriers USS America and USS Saratoga to
                                                        send aircraft to defend Liberty.

them all unusable. "I watched with horror as the floating life rafts were
riddled with holes," recalled Lieutenant Lloyd Painter, in charge of the

didn't want anyone to live." After destroying the life rafts, the Israeli

are under attack by aircraft and high-speed surface craft." Deputy

Center, Captain Vineyard, that "consideration was then being given by some
unnamed Washington authorities to sink the Liberty in order that newspaper men
would be unable to photograph her and thus inflame public opinion against the

McGonagle refuses their help. Boats leave after 12 minutes.

order is confirmed by President Johnson because "we are not going to
embarrass an ally." Naval Air Attaché at U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv,
Commander Ernest Castle, is summoned to Israeli Defense Forces headquarters.

requests permission to land. McGonagle refuses. Helicopter departs.

Defense McNamara. At that point President Johnson comes on the phone and says
he didn't care if the ship sunk, he would not embarrass his allies. Admiral Geis

                                                        Lewis will honor.

undetermined missing. His estimates would prove low.

help?" Liberty responds: "No thank you." Soviets answer: "I
will stand by in case you need me."

exonerates Israeli government and all those involved, saying that its torpedo

the Congressional Medal of Honor. The Medal, usually presented by the President

must have been concerned about the reaction of the Israeli lobby."

                                                        1980: National Security Agency Director
Marshall Carter tells investigative author James Bamford that, regarding the
attack on the Liberty, "There was no other answer than that it was

fighter pilots and torpedo boat crewmen and commanders of perjury.

former Congressman Pete McCloskey and admits that he recognized the Liberty as
American immediately, so informed his headquarters, and was told to ignore the
American flag and continue his attack. He said he refused to do so and returned
to base, where he was arrested.

6 November 1991: Columnists Evans and Novak
publish interview with Dwight Porter, U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon in 1967, in
which Porter says that during or immediately after the attack on the Liberty
the CIA station chief showed him transcripts of intercepted Israeli messages.
One has Israel ordering the attack on the Liberty, another has an Israeli pilot
replying it's an American ship. When the order to attack is repeated, the pilot
insists he can see the American flag. The pilot is told again: "Attack
                                                        it."

8 June 1997: Adm. Thomas H. Moorer, appointed
Chief of Naval Operations shortly after the attack on the Liberty, tells a
reunion of survivors: "I have to conclude that it was Israel's intent to
sink the Liberty and leave as few survivors as possible. Israel knew perfectly
well that the ship was American."

November 1998: Captain McGonagle breaks his
long silence: "After many years I finally believe that the attack was
deliberate. I don't think there has been an adequate investigation of the
incident . . . The flag was flying prior to the attack..." McGonagle will
die four months later, on March 3, 1999.

As big beneficiaries of 9/11 (Netanyahu said 9/11 was very good for Israel), I also strongly suspect our "By way of deception shalt thou make war" ally of playing a major role in 9/11, which is probably the main reason this administration apparently has no plans to launch a truly independent investigation of 9/11 as called for by several of the original investigators who called their own investigation a "cover-up" by the Bush administration. "The Five Dancing Israelis Arrested On 9-11" gives a detailed look at the activities of our false-flag-specialist ally that day.

I can confirm a lot of RalphH's information. He did leave out a few things such as the messages that were sent, telling Liberty to "get out of there" that were miss-routed and not delivered until after the attack. If I remember correctly, there were six messages that were lost or mishandled. He also failed to note that the initial aircraft launched in support of Liberty were recalled because they were the ready alert aircraft. This being the depths of the cold war, the aircraft were armed with nukes for a strategic mission against the Soviets, not a tactical mission in the Middle East. As for Adm. Kidd ordering the crew not to talk about anything having to do with the attack, that is the standard at the beginning of any investigation. I cannot imagine any investigation of this nature, involving such a huge international incident, that would not be classified Top Secret, from the get go. McNamara's "no comment" comment is also standard.

Since that time, several books have been written about the attack. My favorite is Assault on the Liberty by James Ennes, the EMO (electronics material officer) and a bridge officer on Liberty, at the time of the attack. The book was first printed in 1980.

I say let Israel go - with the support of the rest of the world in the interest of eliminating the escalating global terrorist presence. I am convinced it is the Israelis alone who will have to quiet the beast while the rest of us do our usual sit back and fire opinions about the whole thing. Go get 'em Israelis, and take no prisoners.

It's a relatively small ship. Sinking it shouldn't be much of a problem.

The REAL problem is that Iran, a Muslim dictatorship and terrorist State, is starting to pile up armament and is close to Stage 3 in the development of Nukes.

To what purpose ? Peace and friendship ? LOL. Do you believe in Leprechauns ?

Truth is, they want war. They want to annihilate non-Muslim countries starting with Israel and then the USA. The fools ! How can they hope to win against us ? Goes to show Islam is a religion of lies, deceit, inhumanity, a religion of warmongers that idiotically believe they can conquer the rest of the world. They attempted that a thousand years ago when the "world" was "smaller", and totally failed. Now they are on the rise again. But things are not as easy as they were then. They are bound to lose again in the end provided we NEVER YIELD before them.

They are also simply forgetting one thing: Hitler tried to own a large part of the world. He lost. The Japanese did the same and they regretted it. And, by the way, before them, WE ALSO won World War 1. Remember ?

Iran wants World War 3 ? Go ahead ! We have the power to send back all Muslims bastards to the Stone Age.

Iran has been involved in one external war since WWII (1980 - 1988 against Iraq... and Iraq shot first). How many wars has the US been involved in during the same period? I would put forth that it is the US who wants war... in fact the US economy is dependent on war.

They want to kill all non muslims if they don't convert.

Muslims have the belief that as of now, the world is a house of war Dar al-Harb & till it accepts Islam it will remain so. Thus, the duty of every Muslim is to turn this "house of war" to a "house of peace" Dar as-Salam.

Now how do they achieve it? The Quran provides them with a solution. i.e kill non Muslims if they refuse Islam.

"Muhammad said, ‘You are commanded to carry out jihad against the unbelieving infidels until they submit to Islam' " (Qur'an 47:4)

Qur'an (8:12) & 107 other verses in the Quran echo the same message of Jihad.

Muslims are also given the assurance that if they kill non Muslims they will get eternal rewards.

Quran (9.111): Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they FIGHT IN HIS CAUSE, AND SLAY AND ARE SLAIN: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur'an: and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme.

For you fools who think that blowing Islam off the face of the planet is not necessary.... well enjoy your lives under the future muslim rule.

Yeah, Duckie, what some of the Koran espouses is brutal and unfortunately taken to heart by a large number of Muslims. These brutal views of how Islam should be promoted are reminiscent of Catholic Church policy during the inquisition.

It was described by state media as a "symbol of the Islamic Republic's capability and strength that conveys the message of peace and friendship to the Caspian Sea states,"....

This is hooey, but the US military does the same thing with its euphemisms.

Also, I woudn't be surprised if we didn't sell them the weapon systems. We equipped and trained the Taliban and there's Iran-Contra.

Iran is only a little better then Iraq and we beat Iraq without losing a soldier I think or close to it. Iran’s military is not that good and we could kick there butts. Who cares what Iran builds, it will not give them the edge to win a war against the US and if there is a war it would be in their country. They have no way of having a war in someone else’s country, unless it is on their borders. I find it tough for Iran to attack Israel. Iran only says how many missiles they have as the answer to how they would fight Israel. I like what TrustVerify said, it has a lot of facts. What about the hacking of Iran’s nuclear power plant that Israel and the U.S. did that people guess. We could be hacking North Korea people think now. Iran with a destroyer is nothing, America is already coming up with ways to take it out without losing anything. I bet America could win a war with Iran without losing one life or close to it.

Is it made of wood? It sure looks like it is. Where do they put the oars?

I guess we did lose some troops fighting Iraq but not that many, I think it was Total dead: 24,219 Total wounded: 117,961. I think fighting Iran would be around the same in deaths and wounded. The difference is that Iran is Shia and Iraq has Sunni and Shia. The Sunni I think caused a lot more deaths with bombings and fighting and some of them are al-Qaeda. Shia are not al-Qaeda and so the fighting would be different. I think there would be a lot less deaths once we took Iran then we had in Iraq. I always thought Iraq was a pushover getting in there but we did lose some people, I don’t know how many. I think we lost the most people with the occupation of Iraq.

I read that a total of 4,486 U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq between 2003 and 2012. I want to know how many did we lose just with the defeat of Iraq? I thought we lost most of our troops with the occupation of Iraq. I would think the occupation of Iran would be less dead then Iraq. It is not that many dead and we beat them easily. I think we could take Iran and we could afford it but it would hurt our economy.

Does anyone have any thing of what it would look like in deaths to defeat Iran and then how many deaths would come with the occupation of Iran? No one is guessing on what it would look like in the lose of life we would face. I guess it would be around the same as Iraq but I’m guessing.

If everyone will stop playing "WAR" and fight the "WAR" like a "WAR" there would not be any complications like the last few dating back to Korea. Need to say nothing more. Tired of the Bull crap.

That's the country's biggest problem regarding war, newbob. We have the trained personnel, and we certianly have the technology and weaponry to defeat the world several times over...what we lack is the resolve to actually conduct warfare with the intent to win an unequivocal victory like we did in WW2. Our civilian leadership is too soft, too interested in negotiating a settlement, to effectively destroy an enemy once and for all. We haven't been "all in" since 1945.
