Subscribe to RSSMOSCOW — A Russian serial killer who butchered his nine victims with a knife and hammer -- and said he ate the hearts of two of them — was sentenced to life in prison on Friday.
Prosecutors said Alexander Bychkov targeted alcoholics and the homeless out of disdain for their way of life, lured them into deserted areas, killed them, dismembered them and hid the body parts.
They said he described all nine killings in a journal with the words: "The bloody hunt of a predator born in the year of the dragon," state-run news agency RIA reported.
A court in the Penza region convicted the 24-year-old, who sometimes called himself "Rambo," of nine murders between September 2009 and January 2012.
Bychkov was arrested last year on suspicion of stealing 10,000 roubles ($320) and merchandise from a hardware store, but was charged with the murders after investigators found evidence.
RIA said he told authorities he had eaten the hearts of two victims, but he was not charged over that because there was no evidence to prove it.

I doubt he will be eating any of his cell mates. He killed the victims he did because he disdained their life styles.Not too many alcoholics being drunk in prison, and homeless won't be an issue either. What an awful way to die. I hope his victims rest in peace.

TheBlack Dolphin Prison is run the way ALL prisons should be run. Do "time" there and you won't wanna return.
I worked in a US prison...It is more like a kiddie camp, Free Health care (including eye care and dental) , cable, heat , electric and food...Oh and lets not forget the FREE collage education.
I recently watched a documentary on Russia's worst prisons, run just for people like this "Rambo". There were three prisons shown and I think all of them were in Siberia. The Black Dolphin was one. At the worst one the men are in solitary. They get soup and bread to eat, every meal. No tv, music etc. They can read, that's pretty much it. Almost no possessions are allowed. You can't lay or even sit on your bed between 6 a.m. and bedtime. There is a little desk to sit at (and read I guess). When prisoners come out of their cell, they must walk bent over at the waist, which keeps them from being able to attack the guards. A few minutes outside in the 40 below temps is their only outing. Cameras everywhere. Yes sir, no sir is all they say to guards. Their cells are tossed often and the slightest infraction is major trouble. When the cameras are gone, who knows what is done to those who break rules. I'm guessing a good beating by guards. Guard dogs are huge. Not German Shepherds at the worst prison, but much bigger dogs you don't see in the U.S.
The program is on Netflix and is called "Russia's Worst Prisons" or something close to that. It's interesting and it's too bad we don't have some prisons more along those lines here. Especially for the worst offenders that are just evil.

It's refreshing to read a story of a man who felt free to honestly express himself amidst a repressive society. Granted, it is unfortunate that he may have violated the personal rights of some individuals by killing them, eating their hearts, engaging in non-mutually consensual touching, violating personal space, and all, nevertheless, we shouldn't lose sight of his achievement of self realization and fulfillment. In the end, the societal lesson learned is had he embraced veganism none of the negatives would have happened.
It's a shame you were not able to enjoy his attention.

@ Wallace: LOL unfortunately, when I quit smoking 20 years ago I seem to have replaced it with sarcasm. It's just about the last vice I have left and while it makes me a bit acerbic at times, it does keep me from being crushingly boring :-)

It seems even Russia has become to weak to apply justice to it's criminals.
If you knew anything about Russian prisons, you would know that any sentence beyond 5 years is usually a death sentence. We associate prison life with watching TV, relaxing in your cell, weight lifting. Not so in Russia. Their prisons are extremely brutal, full of tuberculosis and other nasty diseases. Severe beatings by gaurds and other inmates is fairly common. There are no organizations to monitor human rights in a Russian prison so don't think this guy will have it easy...not by a long shot.

I don't equate the side effects of imprisonment to the application of justice by an authority. I think of those side effects as a form of karma.

It sounds like the Russians may be on to something here. Maybe we can contract our prisoners out to them?
I suspect that it will cost a lot less than warehousing them here!
Greatwhite -- I don't think it would be cheap to copy the Russian system. 4 or 5 guards go together to take a single prisoner out of his cell for whatever. They don't get out of the cells much though. Plenty of guards, plenty of dogs the size of brown bears. See my comment above about a documentary on the Russian prisons (worst ones). Hope this guy goes to one of the three in the documentary.

just watched a special on Black Dolphin Prison in Russia, and definitley we need to have a prison like that here in the US. Our system is so screwed up. Here, lets commit murder, get 3 meals a day, have a cot to sleep on, watch t.v., see the sunshine, be able to make phone calls, ect. Something is really wrong with our prison system. None of them deserve any of that. Again, this stupid idiot needs to go to Black prison. I agree.

We need to put forth a bill to ban the use of cutlery and a definition of an assault hammer. Hammers now must only be 4 inches long, with only 2 ounce capacity. Any carpenters have to have a license to use them, and if caught with and illegal hammer or trying to sell it must be sentenced to 5 years in a Russian Prison!
But, just think how many more he could have killed with a gun. There, I said it first.
It's only a tragedy if someone is killed by an AR-15. Other murders don't count.

This guy was definitely not politically connected. Otherwise, Putin would have given him a get-out-of-jail-free card. Now if he was a Russian gangster connected with one of Mr. Putin's oligarchs, it's unlikely any charges would have been laid in the first place. Russians seem to be having problems with this rule-of-law thing we take for granted here in the West. As bad as his crimes were, I'm still surprised any Russian court actually convicted him.

I think we should ban hands. Every weapon is "held" in a hand. If we can ban hands no one will be killed unless their attackers is a black belt.
