GAZA - A crocodile on the run from a Gaza zoo for the past 18 months has finally been captured, police said Tuesday.

The 6-foot-long reptile was spotted several weeks ago in sewage pools in the northern Gaza Strip, and villagers complained it had been eating their livestock. Police called in fishermen, who netted the crocodile on Monday.

"He's a beautiful troublemaker," police spokesman Ayman al-Batniji said. "We really sweated to take him alive."

One local farmer reported that the crocodile ate two of his goats, according to the al-Arabiya website.

The fugitive was returned to the zoo and reunited with four other crocodiles. Owners of the zoo said the crocodile had grown considerably since his escape, and they decided to name him "Sakher", or Rock, as a tribute to his survival.

The croc was spotted in a sewage pool, nothing in the article even remotely suggested that was where people were keeping livestock.

Crocodile with taste for pet dogs captured after terrorizing Australian town

A 14.5 foot male estuarine (saltwater) crocodile retrieved from a crocodile trap at Daly River Community some 139 miles south of Darwin, Australia.

A 14.5-foot-long crocodile that may have eaten up to nine pet dogs has been hauled out of a river in Australia.

Community police officer Mark Casey told Australia's Northern Territory News that there had been nine reports of dogs being taken in the month before the crocodile was trapped.

"Crocs are an ever-present danger but you don't see them," he said.

"They can sit for days on end on the other side of the river and watch you go fishing off the same log or rock - that's how they hunt."

"Next thing you know, bang, the dog's gone."

10-year-old girl swallowed by crocodile as father watches

By msnbc.com staff and news services

MAUMERE, Indonesia -- A 10-year-old girl was swallowed by a crocodile as her father watched helplessly, Indonesian officials said.

The girl, named Juraida, was hunting for turtles with her father and brother in East Nusatenggara province when a giant saltwater crocodile sprang up from a river and pulled her in, The Jakarata Post reported.

“Juraida was seized when she was in about a half-meter of water at the river’s mouth,” Lembata Deputy Regent Viktor Mado Waton said when contacted on Friday, according to the newspaper.

“Her father and brother could only watch helplessly,” Waton said.

Villagers found pieces of her clothing several hours after Thursday's attack but there was no sign of her body.

Last month, a boy was killed by a crocodile in the same river.

Villagers living near the river have reported a loss of livestock in recent weeks as well.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
